He was a really awesome professor. In general he was willing to work with you and educate. Lectures consited of just listening to music and taking notes. Just study the notes and quizes and you'll ace the Exams. Fun and intertaining class :)
Fantastic professor! His class was the best I took all of last year. He gives great lectures, and his grading is very clear. Not only an excellent teacher, but an excellent musician and an excellent person.

Dr. Campbell is a cool guy and loves music history. He gives easy quizzes once a week based on the previous week's lectures, so if you go to class every time and take notes, you'll do great. 2 research papers with plenty of time to do them. Tests are 98% from lectures so take notes. Dr. Campbell is accessible and helpful if needed.
History of Rock: Good class, kept me interested. Took online, think it would have been more interesting if it was a lecture class.
I took this class online and it was super easy to stay on top of everything. It was interesting and I learned a ton without getting overwhelmed! Definitely recommend it!
He loves music and makes the class fun but still easy to learn. Tests mid term and final extremely simple.
This class was crazy easy and fun! If you pay attention in class, take good notes and review them before the test with his helpful study guide, it's an easy A. No prior knowledge of music needed! Professor Campbell was great too. He loves music and has a good personality for teaching a big class. He kept it interesting!
He dresses to impress, everyday he has a new Mr. Roger's sweater. He's animated enough to keep me awake even at 8 in the morning. I loved his class, made me feel warm and fuzzy. I like his beard. The music he plays makes you want to do the funky chicken, dance!
This professor is AMAZING!!! He is my favorite professor so far. He loves to teach and you can sure tell. He will keep you entertained and you will learn a lot in his class. Tests were easy too!
Great Teacher! He makes class interesting and his tests are super easy. Follow the study guide and you will ace them. Take notes and he does post his slides so if you miss class or don't go just get the slides. He does give info here and there that aren't on the slides that are important for tests though so try and go to class!
great teacher. made the subject riealy interesting. and his test are easy as well. if you attend class and study ur notes for the test, do the concert report (really easy) you will pass the class.
FABULOUS professor, AWESOME class. The information is interesting, and Campbell is easy to listen to and understand. I barely used the text book, but I only missed 2 days the whole semester. I have a lot of respect for this professor, and I HIGHLY recommend taking this course from him.
Online course... I absolutely loved this class. Prof was very passionate about music and didn't overwhelm you with busywork. Weekly open book quiz straight from book. Midterm and Final, essay, also open book. GREAT Prof, HIGHLY recommend this class.
Easy, interesting, fun class. Can be a bit boring at times (he repeats himself), so be careful not to doze off. Catch things he says that aren't on the slides. This is mainly listening to music and recognizing the elements of it, with some music history. Only 3 non-comprehensive tests and 2 easy assignments. Attendance is mandatory.
Very good teacher!! He made it really fun and makes the class laugh a lot! Very easy class. I believe there were only 2 papers we had to write. 1 about what music we like and another on a concert you must attend during the course. Tests are super easy as well. Easy A!!
Very funny teacher, works hard to make class fun and the material understandable. My appreciation of music grew more after being in this class.
This class is one of the funnest I have taken at Weber. We only have 3 test the whole semester which are pretty easy. We have 2 essays about music. Other than that there is no assignments. You just need to go to class enjoy the music and take notes. Definitely I recommend it. He is also very funny and fun to listen.
He is so funny and really knows his stuff. All lectures are really interesting, just make sure to take notes. There is only 2, 2 page papers and they are both based on your own opinion. TAKE HIS CLASS! You won't regret it.
A really fun class, the teacher knows his stuff and is pretty funny. He hates when you talk during videos, but the videos are pretty entertaining. A few writing assignments (easy) and just 3 quizes. He gives you a study guide and the questions are right from that guide. Very fun class!
This was one of the most enjoyable classes I have had at WSU. Just the name of the class is enough to get me interested. There was a weekly quiz but the class was online so it's open book. Really easy! The midterm and final were pretty simple too! It was all your perspective of everything so it was fun!
This was my favorite class of all time. The professor is so funny and his lectures are really entertaining. There are only three exams, and he posts study guides for each one. You don't need to be a music major to enjoy the class. Just come and take notes! He is a fantastic professor and could make anything interesting.
This class was very enjoyable. His lectures are very clear and to the point but also interesting at the same time. His tests all come with a study guide which greatly helps. Awesome Class.
DONT BUY THE LOOSELEAF TEXTBOOK!! I never used it, just buy the clicker for class participation, you cant sell the looseleaf book back. Hes a gen ed teacher who thinks his class is super important. Every lecture is a powerpoint, w/ response slides. 2 tests and 2 papers, not super hard if you study, he gives u study guides, passable but boring class
EASY A class. Don't buy the textbook it's a waste of money, I never read the book and get A's on every exam! Go to class, pay attention and you will get an A.
Super easy! 3 easy test that he gives you study guides for. Questions come from the study guides. 2 easy 500 word essays and you get partcipation points for showing up to class, without saying a word! Don't buy the book didn't read it once and got a 98% in the class. He is kinda weird, but very passionate and makes it exciting. One of my favs!
Dr. Campbell is awesome. I have health problems and missed class a few times, still got an A. Make sure you pay attention in lecture for exams, he gives a study guide, but he adds in little things from his lectures that you can't find in the book. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Campbell.
This class was alright. It wasn't torture, but it wasn't always interesting. The tests can be slightly challenging so STUDY! and KNOW YOUR TERMS. It's pretty straight forward and he's pretty chill. I'd recommend this class.
He was really great! Some of the people on here said not to get the textbook, but you should definitely get it, the quizzes are online and you have to have the book to get to them.Easy class, online quizzes are kind of hard, but he just grades on you doing them, not how well you do them.3 tests,2 short papers, and participation is all you're graded on.
This online course was very easy. Each week there was a quiz or two and a journal entry and every three or four weeks there was a discussion board post required. Quizzes were easy as was everything else. Interesting subject matter as well. Highly recommend.
This class was not the most interesting, but it was certainly the easiest of all my courses. The tests are super easy- he gives you a study guide. The online quizzes were really hard, but like the other reviews said they were just graded on participation. The papers were super easy too- a straightforward class and an easy A.
Prof Campbell is really down to earth and personable. I was impressed at how well he knew the material and I learned a lot of cool things. Post quizzes took the most time, and you need the book to be able to give an honest effort on them. I definitely recommend this professor
I probably spent 20 minutes a week working in this online class. No tests only quizzes which are very easy. It was an awesome course and you really do learn about the history of music. He responded quickly to e-mails and although I never met him, he seems like a really cool guy. Great online class and super easy yet interesting
Dr. Campbell is a great professor. I took the course to fulfill a General Education requirement but, as a music minor, I found this class very interesting. You should get the textbook as the online quizzes are required. A VERY easy class and fun professor.
He is a good teacher and he makes the lecture as interesting as possible. I didn't use the book very much but there are online quizzes that you have to take. The class is extremely easy and he grades fairly. The class is a little boring at times but easy.
BEST beginner's music class EVER!!! Campbell is so chill with his lessons!! You learn so much just by going to class, and he really cares about what he teaches! I recommend him to anyone looking for a fantastic experience!!! I promise you will laugh. Campbell is awesome.
LOVE this professor!! I took his 1010 class last semester, and I took the history of rock and roll class even though i didn't need the credit haha. There are four papers, but he grades super high, and they're easy papers. I did them all the day they were due and got full credit. He encourages class discussion and actually listens to the students.
Very easy tests and assignments. And all around good, informative class. Very cool professor. Textbook use was low and you can probably get away with not even having one. The kid that sat next to me didn't have one. AKA he just used Google. haha.
This class is very easy! If you do all of the assignments, you are going to get a good grade guaranteed! He is very good at explaining things.
Fun class! The teacher is very straightforward on what's going to be on the exams. He puts up practice questions that are the exact questions that will be on the exams. The book was hardly used. He uses audio clips and video clips to illustrate what he's teaching. :) Lots of fun!
Funnest professor to listen to. He stays on topic and is a very funny guy. He doesn't make the exams too hard because he prepares you during class time. I would definitely recommend this professor to everyone.
LOVED this class. He tries his best to get you involved in the topics and he makes them as interesting as possible. I recommend this class to anyone, it's easy but it's very interesting. He gives you practice test and uses those for the real test.
Good professor, his exams were easy. I didn't show up a lot and still got an A.
Best class ever! I would advise anyone to take this class for their diversity credits.
Very Easy Class. The professor is Awesome! He is very passionate about the subject and you learn a lot. Grade based on participation and quizzes (which are very easy). I HIGHLY reccomend taking this class.
Very fun class. Great teacher. Very passionate. Gives study guides.
SUPER EASY CLASS! Just show up and take notes. He give you a what to know page for the exams and that pretty much gives you everything for the test. He is super funny and class is fun, just don't talk while the music is playing. I would suggest this class to anyone trying to get their art credit out of the way.
This class was AWESOME!!! Just show up to class, take good notes, and look at the study guide before doing his exams and you'll do great! Dr. Campbell is a GREAT professor! He's really funny, too. I really enjoyed his class.
Dr. Campbell is by far my favorite teacher. His classes may be challenging, but he is very interested in every student's success.
Prof Campbell is a very good professor. He is very helpful and cares a lot about the students. The class was extremely easy - would highly recommend for fulfilling Gen Ed credit. You do not need the book. If you go to class and half-listen to his lectures you will be able to do all the quizes and listening journals.
So. I really wish I would have taken this class in person, because I don't feel like I really learned a lot from the online class; he seems like a great professor, but from what I've seen and been told, the class is great to take in person. Super easy A, but this is actually a class I'm really sad I didn't learn very much from.
Really, really cool professor! Not only does he have super rad hair, his class is pretty cool too. It's about boring music but he keeps it interesting with good humor, video examples and clicker responses. The clicker responses is how he knows you participated. Homework is easy and sometimes fun. He allows two attempts on each quiz. Recommended!
This professor is awesome a, he is so funny and he made the class so much fun! No textbook needed! Easy A. Just take notes on what he says and you'll do fine. He even quizzes you during lectures (not graded) to see if you are understanding the material. Take this class from him if you want to see a different side of music! It's so fun!
Campbell was amazing. He made even the most boring parts of lecture interesting. I loved the examples he showed during class, it really made it click. Great class for your Gen Ed credits.
Professor Campbell is HILARIOUS! He is so much fun to watch in class. Participation isn't super important but it's a grade so best to show up. Very easy class, easy A for sure if you just want to get 3 extra credits put into your schedule. This class is a MUST!
Mr. Campbell is so awesome! I loved this class. If you want an easy A I recommend taking this.
Campbell is so awkwardly funny, but that's how he gets his students to pay attention. Assignments aren't too hard, neither are quizzes. No textbook, at all, just need a clicker and he grades participationattendance by checking clickers. Very easy class.
This is the best music class I have ever taken. Professor Campbell engages his students to participate and uses current examples for his lectures. I was never board in class and loved going. Easy A as long as you go to class, take good notes, and do the assignments which are mostly opinion papers.
He is a very animated teacher, and he is really funny! I would recommend this class to anybody, even if you aren't interested in music classes. You basically pick your grade in the class, and the work is really easy.
Best class to take for diversity or art credit. Super fun to learn about rock history, and Campbell knows it ALL! He's passionate about it and knows a lot, he's a cool guy and pretty funny. The tests are pretty easy, just study the study guides he gives out. Easy A.
Professor Campbell is an amazing, enthusiastic, and funny man. I really enjoyed this class and would totally take this class if I were you. Pretty straight forward. Take notes, do the weekly quiz and assignments and you'll be just fine.
He is pretty funny and will tell you what to do in order to get the grade you want. If you want an A, you just have to go to class, write 5 song-analysis, 1 report on a concert, 1 multimedia analysis, and take all the quizzes (open notes). The lectures are fun and you don't really have to take notes because he uploads the slideshows on canvas.
No tests, 10 required quizzes on power points, Live music report, participation, and song analyses. He gives you a rubric for the whole semester. Participation is important for your grade. You will need a clicker that tracks your attendance and participation during class. Campbell is very lively and really makes the whole course interesting.
You literally pick which grade you want! The rubric is set from the beginning and you do the designated quizzes (open note) and assignments to get an A. Everything is at your own pace and it's clear cut! Super easy gen ed class if needed! Carey is also super funny and makes class fun!
One of the easiest classes ever. The first day he gives a syllabus with all the assignments and which ones to do to get an A, B or C. Super easy to get an A. He's not a tough grader. NO TESTS!!
Hes one of the best professors i've had this semester you choose what grade you want whether you want to pass or fail you decide. He is so funny and his class was easy no exams no due dates just show up pay attention do the homework and you are all good to go such an Awesome professor .
He is so funny one of the best professor ever.
Campbell has a brilliant sense of humor and knows his stuff. The due date for all assignments are due by the end of the semester and can be submitted anytime during the course. It's an easy A, and you'll have a blast taking the course!
Dr. Campbell is amazing. Lectures are a blast. He makes you want to go to class and makes you appreciate the subject matter. He really knows his stuff but is relaxed about it. Makes me want to go into musicology.
Dr. Campbell was great; easily one of my favorite professors yet. He provided timely and thoughtful feedback on assignments, and was easygoing and very fair in his grading. There were no tests; just weekly assignments and open-book quizzes. The class was easy, but also very informative; I learned a lot. Would definitely take another class from him.
He is a very clear grader and it seems like he is really interested In what you have to say in your responses to questions. In a way it is self paced with a due date every two weeks. I recommend taking this as an easy A, but also as an interesting class as well!
Campbell was a very good instructor - he knew the course material and presented it in an easy to understand manner for an 1000-level course. The work was easy - just listen to the music, and think a little bit, and write a paragraph or two once a week.
MUSC 1035 was a super easy class, I missed every now and then but as long as you did the readings and paid attention during class, the exams were easy. There were 3 exams, a short writing assignment (easy) every week, and a long writing assignment (4-5 pages) due at the end of the semester. The Class is fun even if you do not like rock and roll.
This class was so much fun, it is easy, no midterm, no final, you have to answer 15 discussion questions and 15 quizzes. Thats it! way fun class and it opens up your mind on different religions, beliefs and music they listen too. If you need to take a music class this is the proffesor to take. Very cool and easy going guy.
1033 While this class was on the easy side there is a lot of reading and writing but no tests! You don't need a music background to do well in this class. Even through an online class you can just tell that Dr. Carey is just a good dude. Oh but don't procrastinate this self paced class, the work will add up. He grades easier if your on schedule.
Professor Campbell has a great sense of humor, and his lectures are fun. He likes for you to participate in the conversation so be prepared to speak up during lectures. Show up, take notes, do the short writing assignments (a paragraph), along with weekly quizzes (10 questions), and it's an easy A! I would absolutely take a class from him again.
Dr. Campbell is a fun instructor, but he still manages to get you thinking. He doesn't just teach material, he accepts and runs with input from students to tie it back into the lesson. He rarely goes off on tangents that are irrelevant to the class material, but everyone still gets validated in their thoughts and opinions. Highly recommended.
Very easy class. Please take it from him if you need an easy gen ed. One quiz and one writing assignment per week. No tests. Super easy A. Light workload.
Professor Campbell was a fantastic professor. He gives great feedback, and is extremely clear on how he will be grading early on. There are a TON, of "Listen & Answer" assignments and quizzes, but they're pretty easy, but can pile up if you don't stay proactive. Overall awesome!
Great class and even if you don't show up a few times you can still bass with an A. He curves the test so most everyone passes. Not a hard class at all, would recomend.
Professor Campbell is great! There are only three exams and five listening questions on each one. There is a four-five page paper of an album review you write at the end of the semester. There are weekly assignments that are really easy. There is no comprehensive final exam! I really enjoyed this class and if you need an art credit take this!
All text is provided by the professor. No tests. Weekly papers based primarily on your perspective and what you've learned from the reading. Quizzes on each unit and no tests. Great feedback provided and easy to speak with. He wants you to come in with an open mind and learn. Would love to take another class from him.
Dr. Campbell gets what it's like to be a music student with a heavy course load, and is a really great guy. He usually gives three exams, a 3-4 page paper, and weekly writing assignments. I have found the information in this class helpful in some of my English classes. He does his best to make music history fun. You do need to read the textbook.
This has been my favorite class by far. Dr. Campbell cares about his students, and has the best lectures I've been to. Tests are a breeze, all you need to do is make sure you review the "things to know" for each section. I stopped studying the textbook after the first exam and still got 100% on exam 2. Really enjoyable class.
This was probably the funnest general credit I have taken at weber. Dr. Campbell is very funny and his lectures are amazing to attend. Take this class if you have the chance!
My favorite general ed class! Prof. Campbell has such a fun personality and I actually love going to his class. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. He makes lectures super fun and you really don't have to take notes. There is only 3 tests and 12 super easy writing assignments that are all due by the end of the semester.
He's very knowledgeable about the subject and I enjoyed listening to what he had to say. His assignments aren't hard if you just read the weekly chapters. This was the first time he did he class all online and if you missed the zoom classes, he recorded them so you could go back and watch them which was very helpful.
I learned a lot about music. The material was rich and he made it an enjoyable class.
Took History of Rock and Roll! It was fun! It's an easy A and he works so hard to make this fun for his students and you can tell he REALLY cares! You don't have to participate (zoom) but you can tell he really appreciates it when you do participate! Participate as much as you can because he deserves it!
History of Rock n Roll was the only class Ive ever taken where I didnt complain about anything. This professor is so funny, and took many of my song requests during class (over zoom). As much as he loves teaching, he loves hearing feedback from his students, so try to participate! You wont regret taking this class, take it for credit or for fun!
Professor Campbell makes this course so much fun! (Over Zoom) He was engaging and made funny remarks. There are three weekly assignments such as a reading check, discussion, and a short writing assignment. There are no exams. He was very informative and caring. There's a signature assignment where you write an album review of your choice.
Super easy class. Made me want to go. Just do the assignments, only a few of them and a paper. Attendance isn't required but it is so good you are going to want to go. You don't need the textbook either.
History of Rock and Roll is such a fun class! He's seriously one of my favorite teachers I've ever had.
Carey Campbell and the Rock n Roll history class was easily my favorite professor and class at Weber. Super easy and lectures were great, and he is super funny. Very personable guy and made me look forward to his class. Definitely would take him and suggest his class to anyone.
Oh my gosh! The rock and roll history class was so fun with this professor! I would look forward to it, and would do outside research it was so awesome! Such a good class for the arts credit! I would highly recommend! You can tell the teacher actually enjoys teaching it and likes hearing peoples thoughts on the music :)
Professor Campbell was/is an amazing instructor. The class is very straight forward and you are given all the assignments at the beginning. This makes it possible for you to work through what you know and spend more time on what you don't. The videos that he records are very helpful, and if you ever have questions he is always willing to help.
Carey is SO funny and was such a fun professor to take a class from. Attendance might not be MANDATORY, but his lectures are very much worth attending. This has been my favorite class I've taken at Weber State, and I'm a junior.
Carey is one of my favorite professors Ive has so far. He is very skilled at leading a classroom and keeping the course work interesting. Very sweet and funny guy who has a lot of passion for the work he does. I highly recommend Carey for any music courses you want to take.
Super easy class. Weekly quizzes are easy, and if you just show up, the 3 writing assignments are pretty easy as well. Carey is so fun and chill. He's so passionate about what he teaches, and it makes class fun. He's also aware of life circumstances and works with you. Super kind, fun, and caring. Definitely recommend. Chill, yet stimulating class
Dr Campbell is in my opinion the best music professor at WSU. He has fun teaching his classes and is also passionate about what he teaches. He'll engage with the class and show us cool factoids regarding the things he is teaching. He cares about his students success and is very understanding of any situation his students may be in. Highly recommend
This is the best class I have ever taken, hands down. Carey gives phenomenal lectures that are always informative and fun. He is willing to work with you and is very approachable. I always looked forward to lectures and actually cried on the last day. If you have any interest in rock music, take this class!! Also shout-out to Barry, he's a legend.
Dr. Campbell is INCREDIBLE. He has an amazing personality that he brings into every lecture, and also has such an amazing passion for musicology. For this course *PURCHASE THE ANTHOLOGY AND TEXTBOOK*!!! He references them in class often and some of the exam material is pulled from the textbook as well as the lecture! Take notes!
Wonderful, Professor. He was funny, but made sure to get his point across. Overall, a great class, and I would take one from him again.
