kind of a hard class. she didn't seem very friendly. i tried to get on her good-side, but it didn't work. i still got a B in the class, but i thought i deserved and A. I received A's on all my papers, but ended up with a B. watch out for the little things like journals, they'll make or break you.

Ms. Millsap-Spears is my favorite professor. I recommend taking all of her classes!
I took two of her classes and got A's both times. She isn't too strict about the way she grades, I mean as long as you turn the papers in on time you'll pass the class. She's not a grammar and punctuation nut either. Very enthusiastic. Very accessible. Just a downright cool person. She makes an otherwise boring class very fun.
She is a teacher that you'll wanna' take. Trust me!

She is an awesome teacher! She goes over material very well and makes the class interesting. If you are having troubles with an assignment, all you have to do is go to her and she will help you. Just read all the stories assigned and you will have no problem. She answers emails quickly too. She rocks!
This professor is awesome! She really cares about her students. If you ask her questions, you can see how much she cares about her subject matter and how much she cares about her students. I thought this class was going to suck, but she made it so bearable. She is super nice and kind. She is pretty interesting if you try to get to know her.

Great teacher! I learned so much, and actually feel like I benefited from the class... she is hard though, so if you're looking for an easy A, then don't take her. She has a good personality and is pretty funny. Very helpful if you keep up with your work. Be on time to class and do all your hw! She won't take any crap from you, but a great teacher!
She is so much fun. She plays music and videos, which is cool, instead of reading boring stuff all the time. She is hard, so don't take her if you are looking for a blow off. But you will learn how to write. I will always use what she told me. I highly recommend her!! Awesome!!!! If you are a jerk, she won't put up with you.
Love her! She used so many different texts - other professors use boring stuff. We even got to listen to music and watch videos. She has the best sense of humor and is super cool. Work hard and get an A. Don't come to class and complain a lot about the work - get an F. Duh!!!

I took her as an online teacher. Her tests were very high school. She was not very specific in her assignments. All of her answers to any question was it in the sylubus or text. Could not get a straight answer from her.

Really didn't like this class. Dreaded going to it each day. Hated the assignments, she was pretty out-there with her teaching and I was always bored. Read The Lovely Bones, V for Vendetta, and Carrie, none of which I felt were college level or fitting for the class and the essays were not graded very fairly. Wouldn't recommend her
she challenges her students, i didnt like her at first, but she turned out allright, shes into goth and talks about her hometown alot, she was sick alot, so class was canelled often
I had her for a teacher for COM102 and it was an online class. She was a very fair grader and straight-foward on what assignments were due when. I would defenlty recomend for everyone to take this class with her. I wish all online classes were structured like hers!
She is a great professor! We used all kinds of cool stuff to write about - so much better than the boring stuffy stuff other profs use. You are crazy if you complain about that. Take her if you want to learn about how to use com in the real world. Awesome!!

Though she explained the assignments poorly, I think she purposely did that in order for her students to feel free at writing instead of putting limitations. I had a great time in my class ONLY because gothic literature is right up my alley. If it's not, then I recommend another teacher that will be easier for you to understand. But I liked her :)
I took Com 101 with her i think she is a great woman , very nice and kind , she loves to help. I love her and i can't wait to take her class in the fall
she doesnt limit assignments so you can write freely on whatever you want. she is a hard grader and sometimes talks to the class as if were high schoolers. didnt like her. i dont recommend.

i got a B in her class, and it actually wasn't that hard, BUT she makes you attend every single class, it doesn't matter if you were sick and had a doctors note or in the hospital, you lose points everyday you dont go!

I had her for COM 101 and 102. I liked that the class was challenging. If you want to be treated like an adult who is in college (for better or for worse!) then take her. If you're an immature dummy (half of Moron Valley) then avoid her. Simple.
Did the assignments, have a fair grade in the course. The novels we had to read were way easy. However, her teaching style and helpfulness to students did not leave a positive impression to me.
Well, I took COM101 with Mrs. Millsap-spears in the summer as a three week crash course. She is a nice person but doesn't really teach you anything. Her papers are easy but her topics were stupid. She graded very easy. I wish i took a different teacher because i hardly learned anything. Take her as your last choice
I am taking her right now. we have to do lot of work in class and on papers as well. she is very hard teacher, if u miss her class only once , 1 letter grade drops. very tough teacher.
She does't explain things that well. When she gives you an example of how to write, it's not clear. She stresses language use but when she talks she uses 'um' and 'like' frequently. She is a hard grader or papers as well. She assigned my class a 10 page paper that wasn't even relevant to class materials.
Don?t take her, i toke her online she is the worst. She has the same topic for all her essay, sustainability.
Ms. Millsap-Spears LOVES teaching & it shows. I really enjoyed this course. We were definitely challenged, not at all like high school, but I learned SO MUCH! If you are interested in improving, I really recommend the class, especially with this instructor.
I LOVE Professor Millsap-Spears! She is a GREAT TEACHER! YES, She makes you work, but it is ALL for YOUR benefit! She is so very helpful and people need to give her class as well as her a chance! I have become a better writer because of her! WOOOHOOO PROFESSOR!!! :D

all you do in the semester is write 4 essays..1 per month..the class is NOT bad at all.. I highly recommend :D
Overall, she is not a bad teacher. However, i had some issues with her attitude problem. If u ask a question be prepared for her to try to make u feel dumb for asking. Her attitude really pissed me off. The class tho is easy, I missed about 5 classes and still got a B. If you do all the assignments ON TIME, theres no reason not to pass her class
Really outgoing teacher. She just has an attitude. Youn only have four papers and you're allowed to turn in one paper late. I did all my papers an hour before class and still got A's on the paper.

Overall id have to say for most of the semester she was kinda rude if you asked her a question or needed clarification but as long as you do you assignments and participate she will grade you good. You will use the book a lot, read because she does quiz you! Pay attention and be sure to attend the class.

I just completed COM 102 w/ A... if you want to learn and consider yourself an adult.. take her class.... she's by far one of the most passionate Prof. who wants to help you.

If you want a teacher who adores reading as much as you do, look no further. She is a Game of Thrones fan, (huge plus) and most likely loves whatever nerdy thing you are into. She, herself, is a English writer and so knows her stuff. She really tries to make you enjoy yourself and wants you to enjoy what you are reading. Best. Teacher. Ever.

Professor Spears is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's knowledgeable, interesting, supportive, and always values her students' opinions. Class discussions were relevant to the reading, yet added new and thought provoking perspectives to the material. Yes, you read a lot. Yes, there are 2 papers. But it's all well worth it.

I took her for COM 101 and then COM 102 online I really like her because she was very clear with all the essays and homework. She is fun and you will never be bored in class. I don't think she has attitude problems. Just make sure to do your homework on time
I think this has been my favorite writing teacher ever I hate papers but you can go to her office and she will help you with the paper and you can get an A so easy by actually doing the work! If you don't want homework and actual work then don't take her she loves her subjects and she is always positive!

As long as you follow the guidelines as prompted in essays you'll do just fine, she's not hard at all unless you slack a lot. She gives good feedback and really helps you out regardless of your writing background.
Not really good at teaching, more so tells you what the topic of a paper is and just wants you to write it. Not good at answering questions I had. Would blame me for not knowing what to do when she would answer my questions wrong and would laugh that I asked the wrong question. Talks about herself a lot. Very annoying tone of voice.
I honestly do not now how I did well in this class. Professor Spears is a nice lady when you are on her good side but she is also picky about some things. She can have an attitude and call you out of the whole class but overall she is a decent teacher. I think we had to write three to four papers. She also likes to talk about her life in class.
I took her for honors COM 101 & three week COM 102. I enjoyed both of those, as she is very smart and will give you great feedback. Even though she is very expressive of her views and hobbies, she still manages to be objective. It's easy to hate her, but don't listen to everyone else. Also, the three week course was an essay writing boot camp.

The reading material is pretty boring and kind of hard, which she knows. I liked her at first, until I had questions about an essay, she's not that good at answering questions, she kind of hands things to you and expects you to know things. She can be fun, she's really into fandoms, but you have to read the story's, there's a lot of group work.

I can't say enough good things about Carey. She goes out of her way to help her students by offering resources from her own personal collections and using references that students understand. For a Lit class, she was very hands on and enthusiastic. She made difficult literature fun. I would take her again for sure.

If you go to class and do the papers, you're good!! Don't procrastinate on writing, & gotta go thru writing process, with drafts and everything. Really wasn't bad, i just procrastinated a lot which i really don't recommend you do lol! She's cool though, & if you participate in class, its better :)
More than half of my class dropped her course before we hit October. The online materials and deadlines are not organized well. I would not recommend this teacher to someone who is just starting their journey with writing. This class will not help you improve.
I made an account just to review Professor Millsap-Spears. She is passionate about the material we cover in class and really knows her stuff. As a science major, I wasn't sure how I would do with this material. But after taking Carey's class I have a new found love for BritLit. If I could take her again I would. She is a MVCC treasure!
Has a very arrogant attitude. I did not like approaching her for this reason. The class is not hard but it did take me a while to understand what she was looking for in the essays. Gives quizzes based on the textbook reading , which were difficult.
She has 2 stars vs 1 Star was because I feel that under everything, she could be a very good teacher. Spent semester in writing center. I submitted all essays and received As but tardies and missing a class will drop your Grade significantly. All questions asked were answered with an attitude, or eye roll, and were ultimately not helpful. Sucked!!
Shes a great professor and she does try her best as she can to help people. Take advantage of her office hours to get help too. She helped me feel more confident about writing even though its just not my good subject. She takes the time to help you understand what you are struggling with. She maybe a tough grader but she still is a great teacher.
If you dare to ask a question, you will have to endure a condescending attitude for the rest of the semester. If you go to her office hours, be prepared to be ignored, since her discussion about what she had for lunch with her colleague is more important than paying attention to the student who came in to ask for help with her unreasonable papers
If youre looking for an easy A then take her. Attendance is a must. You won't pass if you don't show up. She definitely prepares you for each assignement. She's NOT approachable. So if you have any questions or get easily discouraged then do not take her. She's very arrogant and sassy. Overall she has a terrible attitude but her class is easy.

I have had Milsap-Spears for 101 and now 102 and she is honestly one of the worst professors I have had at Moraine. She does not help any students on papers and expects you to know what to do. Four papers, lots of homework, and you cant miss class or you will fail. Do not take her, you have been warned!!!
I do not know how to feel about her. Comparing her to my com101 teacher, she looks like she does not care about the essays at all. She only gives out atleast 1 sentence comment on your essay so sometimes I feel like she does not even read the whole thing. Her comments does not help you improve at all. Do not take her please.
She is alright. I'm surprised she's been labeled as rude because she seemed too much of a people pleaser to me. She also tends to deviate away from the course material, but, overall, she's alright and very passionate about literature. Kind of quirky, but in a funny way.
Shes nice and loves to talk but shes not helpful. If you ask her for help with wording your thesis or your question for your research paper or even clarification on what youre supposed to write about she will look at you and tell you things about the subject that you already know but wont help you narrow and focus on what you need to.
DONT take her. She is so rude when it comes to asking her for help. When it came down to our final paper she NEVER helped in anything and makes you feel stupid. She tends to be rude whenever you decide to even ask her about assignments I WARNED YOU GUYS I regret taking her class
I dont understand why Professor Millsap-Spears has so many poor ratings. I took her for summer a COM 102 class online, and I thought she was great. She is very clear on what she is looking for and is happy to clear things up if you are confused. This class requires effort, but as long as you try its easy to do well.
This professor does not give you space between assignments. He posts assignment after assignment and doesn't even give you time to breathe. He is a super rough grader and its impossible to receive an A on one of his essays. Also when you email and ask for help on an assignment, he sends you the link to the assignment instead of actually helping.
Professor Millsap-Spears is a nice professor. Make sure you read ALL the announcements, assignment, check your canvas calendar, and ask questions. She does explain very clearly and helps you out, but you need to put in an effort too.
One of the WORST professors I've ever had in my entire life. I don't even know how she became a professor, definitely was a huge mistake. She is RUDE, does not care about her students, WORST FEEDBACK, so many papers, She is just a nightmare. I wish i never took her class. I wish I would have listened to the previous reviews that told me NOT to take her b/c she has a lazy style of teaching, is such a tough grader, & doesn't help her students. I took her for a 4 week COM 102 class and I deeply regret it. I am a relatively good student with a 3.8 GPA but she was failing me on all my writing assignments. don't take her!

She talks about her own writing and often will give examples of her own submitted writing, and you would think that she would be inclined to share her obvious passion with her students, but instead she grades harshly and was less than helpful in zoom meetings. Get to know the writing center, you'll spend a lot of time there.
She is super fun and really tries to connect with the students. Lots of fun pop culture stuff. I plan on taking her again for another class.

Prof. Millsap-Spears is one of my fav professors at Moraine. If you show up and do the work, you will succeed in this class. It's a writing course, so expect to write. She grades fairly and gives great feedback. Also, love the pop culture assignment! Hope to take more classes with her in the future.

This is a mandatory class. But if you follow the syllabus, you'll be fine. There are a lot of papers to write, but the prof tries to make it more fun / interesting. She is available if you have questions. Showing up is important to her.

Not gonna lie this is the 2nd time i took this class. Took it last semester with different teacher and was not motivated enough to care. This time was better. Projects were interesting and she returned papers fast. Had a hard time focusing my final project idea and she gave me great suggestions that helped me figure out what i wanted to do.
Very informative & interesting class. You need to read the materials to make the class worth it though. Teacher made sure class followed safety procedures and it was a good in person class with discussions. She adapts to the class needs and really makes you think.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFFESOR!! I never met her in person since it was an online course. She speaks poorly about MVCC's writing center, even though they were WONDERFUL when it came to helping me. She PREACHES to "reach out to her" but then takes forever to get back to you and acts ANNOYED when you do. SHE WILL FAIL YOU!

In fairness she was filling in for someone/using a syllabus she didn't make. Her class started out okay but slowly degraded to the point where she basically gave up trying to teach anything by the end. Multiple class sessions ended 40 minutes early because of this. Her class is easy if you put the work in but don't expect to learn anything.
She sucks simply. Gives borderline zero help and doesn't seem to care honestly. Feedback she gives does not make sense at all. Also all she does is talk about how her son goes to Indiana State, very annoying.

Don't know what all these 1 stars are for. She is clear on what she wants and if you have her check your essay before submission she will tell you what to do to get an A. My final research paper scored a 100 and she asked to use it for examples in her later classes. Ask and follow and you'll get the A. Loved her ~ Mumin
The woman was a terrible college professor. She was unclear in her explanations and generally disinterested in teaching. She assigned too many essays and annotated bibliographies, making it difficult for students to keep up. She rarely provided useful feedback and seemed to favor certain students. Many students struggled in her class. Dont take her
I had her for COM-101. This teacher is easy if you put in the work. Noticed she will not tolerate students that don't put in effort but if you do your grade will reflect that. The grading criteria is literally in the rubric so follow those. Super easy class and she gives you time to finish stuff in class as well. Also plus is class would end early.
If you do the assignments and read the homework, you should be perfectly fine. She's definitely a tough grader but she gives you feedback to help you on your next assignments. She's also willing to meet with you in person or on zoom to help you with any of your work.
Prof Millsap-Spears is a good professor. This online course had its challenges, but I appreciate that the writing was done on our own interests because it made it a lot easier. She gives great feedback, so after the first few essays I was scoring pretty well. Overall I recommend.
Once you get past her attitude she's okay. She does a good job at using materials that lead up to the papers but once you start the paper she isn't much help at all. She'll basically tell you you're on your own and that she isn't the one writing the paper so she can't help you. Only if you're somewhat good at writing do I recommend her class.
Carey's class can be a mixed bag. While the grading criteria is clear, she's particular about student effort. But if you do the work, the class is manageable. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep.
In the simplest of terms, she's just very VERY rude. If you have questions she'll answer in a condescending tone and roll her eyes at you (personal experience). She tells everyone to ask her any questions but when someone is having trouble she'd rather act annoyed and dissatisfied with you than actually help and provide support.

I had asked her a question regarding an assignment, which she responded very poorly to and with total arrogance, and then marked me off points on an essay that I specifically asked her about and what I should do to change it. She no doubt has lots of knowledge on writing and composition, and some of her lessons and assignments were kinda fun, but she can come across VERY condescending and is sometimes quite rude. I took her com 102 class and if I'm being real it was the worst class I've ever took. She doesn't make it easy for us to learn and is super rude when you have questions to ask her and I mean super rude and not helpful at all. Would never take her class again. Just hands out a bunch of random papers and packets rather then helping.
Truly terrible. She had basically no care for the students at all. She refuses to help students correctly, gives students attitude, and gives the worst advice. No matter how many times students went up for help during the last month, she simply would not give a straight answer. I tried my best to enjoy this class but it wasn't worth it by the end.
She was okay. Hands out an ungodly amount of papers that barely help with the assignments. The entire semester was based on cookbooks for some reason? It made for a difficult time writing the research paper. She's very picky and will decline any thesis/topic ideas if its not 100% what she wants/would write. Only take her if absolutely necessary!
This lady is a decent teacher. The online bit sucked, but the essays were decent ig even though cookbook. Howev, she is not a pleasant person. She came across as a hair sexist (ima guy) and was always yapping about her book. When asked questions she looks at you like what do you want? She shuts you down and acts like you're stupid. She grades fair
I believe this was her first time teaching this online course, so it may be better in the future... but I will say it was heavily disorganized. Instructions weren't super clear on major assignments and she's not very helpful. It's not a class you will fail easily, but I wouldn't really recommend.
