Lecture can be scattered at times, but Dr. T definitely knows her stuff. She seemed enthusiastic about the class and student comprehension, and she'll clarify anything you need over email or in office hours. Between lecture, office hours, TAs, and practice problems, there are plenty of opportunities to do well in this course. Exams are very fair
Covers everything you need to know in class and on the homeworks. Dr. Treado emails back very fast and will explain in detail any homework or exam questions. Mostly write the class notes on the whiteboard instead of boring powerpoints. I went to the undergraduate TA's review sessions, which were super helpful.
Carey is great! She gives you everything you need to do well in the class. The trickiest part of the class is the homework. It is online and you only get one attempt, but if you put some time into it its not bad at all and a lot times exam questions are very similar.
I liked Dr. Treado's class a lot. Lectures were not mandatory, but she did not post all of her lecture slides online, just a select amount. The homeworks were hard at some times but manageable. A lot of exam questions were straight from homework questions. She even took students' criticism on exam length and changed it. Awesome professor.
She is a very nice person, but teaching is not her strength. She goes through lectures fast and doesn't post them. The hw is rough and some of the test questions have tricky wording. She is not bad, but if you have other choices, choose someone else. International econ was supposed to be an easy class, but it was stressful to get through
She is a really nice person. She kind of changed her style this semester cuz she only posted selected material which makes harder to do the HW and review for the exams. Please don't take this class unless you need it.
Treado is definitely not the best professor I've had. She knows what she is talking about, but doesn't know how to transfer that information into her lectures. She also changed the homework which now does not give the students feedback, making it harder to understand the material. I do not recommend Treado, but there are lots of resources to help.
Uses powerpoint slides for lectures, but doesn't include all the slides from lecture on Blackboard after class. Uses tricky wording on multiple choice homework and exams, making 2 choices seeming like the right answer. Most answers aren't in the textbook the further you get into the semester.
Professor Traedo told us that this would be an easy course. She lied. The average on the first exam was a high A and the average on the second exam was a 68. Difficulty ramps up out of nowhere and the incomplete slides she posts do not help. She moves extremely fast in class so it's almost impossible to know what to write down.
The class material isnt too hard but Treado's teaching style killed me. She allows no use of laptops or phones to take notes, doesnt provide the notes for students online, and skips through the slides very fast not providing enough time to take good notes.
Fast-paced but manageable lectures if you read before class. She's very knowledgeable, but doesn't always convey it to the students. Her two exams were very easy if you do the homework, almost copy/pasted. Expect her to stop class if she sees a phone or laptop out, she despises electronics.
Very easy class if you just show up to class and take good notes. She does not go too fast at all if you know how to take good notes and only write important things down. She's really weird about not allowing electronics and not posting slides but other than that she's actually very nice and approachable.
Didn't show up to one class all semester. invested one week of studying to score nearly 90% on final and 95% on mid term. That being said still you should go to class, so that way studying is not even a necessity in preparation for the exams. Class however is terribly boring, but what's new. Recitation is mandatory which is a pain, but if you go...
Overall a decent choice. Tests weren't too bad and I was able get a high grade without showing up to lectures using the powerpoints she put up. Recitations were mandatory and directly contributed to my grade, however, I was able to get away with missing 4 since she allows you to make up for missing one with surveys. The homework can get pretty hard
Prof Treado is a really sweet lady. Her lectures aren't the most interesting in the world, but she does a good job of making the material palatable. Tests were a breeze as long as you kept up with the homework and the recitations.
She's a pretty solid choice. Do well on the homeworks and it'll seriously help you out with the overall grade. Very kind and willing to meet with you during office hours (you can see your test sheet after the grade comes out, & she'll go over it with you). Genuinely wants to see you pass.
Prof Treado is awesome, I don't know why she doesn't have a higher rating. The exams are easy enough if you go to class and she puts the powerpoints online which is helpful so you can pay more attention to what she's saying and then go back later to look at the notes. I liked that she talked about current events which made the material more fun.
For a lower level elective, this course was a lot of work. The tests were challenging despite coming to class and taking diligent notes. When you are so focused on passing the class, you lose your interest in the material which is a really sad thing to happen. Don't take this class unless you absolutely have to.
I had previously taken Treado before in an upper level class, so I knew what to expect going in. If you're looking to pass the class without putting in effort, look somewhere else. If you're looking to learn a lot of applicable, real life things, this is the class for you. The grade I received was the result of me not showing up to class enough.
Prof. Treado is okay. If you are good at multiple choice exams then you should take it as long as you're willing to study before an exam. She's not the best lecturer and can be pretty fast. She also is politically biased despite her attempts to conceal it as "looking at the facts".
Treado was very kind and eager to help her students. There were homeworks each week, three exams, and a discussion board. In order to do well, you need to show up to class and take detailed notes because the slides can be very vague. The exams were multiple choice but many questions were tricky. A decent grade is possible if you put in the work.
Professor Treado is a great professor with real world experience in economics and knows what she is talking about. She is very passionate about the subject material (to some students dismay) and know how these economic policies are applied. Show up to class. Highly recommend for Econ majors. Also I hope to make the opening day presentation.
Her lecture style is erratic. You only have two exams, a midterm and a final, and for this midterm I feel like I have learned barely any material. Her lectures are full of references to pointless and obscure movies that do more to confuse you rather than help understand, and she moves too quickly through important material.
Do not take Carey Treado. Lectures are boring and disorganized. No review material is provided and the homework is a waste of time. The exams are 60% of your overall grade, and there's only two of them.
love yourself and avoid her
Dr. Treado is easily one of the best professors I have had at Pitt. She knows the content and often inserts current events and research to make the class more engaging. Shes super accessible and seems to thoroughly enjoy answering questions and helping students in and outside of class.
Dr. Treado is a gem. Inspirational, helpful, and amazing all around. Recommend 100%
Take this course if you want to learn. Do not take it if you want an easy A.
I really enjoyed taking Prof. Treado's class. I went to every single one of her office hours, and she was always willing to help. The class is not easy, at least for a non-econ major like me, but I ended up doing okay. I would definitely recommend taking this class, especially if you are a P and P major.
Dr. Treado genuinely care about her students & their progress. As long as you do the homework, take notes in class, and study/practice the homework problems from that section, you will do fine on the exams.
Professor Treado was a very boring lecture to listen to. The class itself was not insanely complicated. Recitations and homework can boost your grade. The tests were fair and you had an idea of what was on them.
Treado is a nice professor but it is clear to see she is a researcher here who is forced to teach. She has struggled during this Zoom era with at least 1 mistake with online work a week. During her lectures she often contradicts herself or solves for the wrong answer. The class is not hard, you will just end up teaching yourself more than she does.
Dr. Treado is literally the sweetest professor. She went above and beyond to adapt to teaching an online class and is super flexible about scheduling office hours with her. There is an online textbook, but watch the mini lectures and do the homework and you'll be good. She truly cares about her students and is passionate about econ.
Treado managed to make this elective harder than my Econ 1100 class this semester. She is a nice lady, but clearly not cut out for online teaching. Her testing style (1 question at a time, no going back) made taking exams extremely stressful. Additionally, she flies through powerpoints and does not upload them before class. Save yourself.
she sucks. the tests are impossible because you can't go back to check your answers. everyone complained and she didn't do anything to fix it. class was entirely lectures and was VERY boring. overall just so below average. take someone else. the class itself probably isn't all THAT hard but shes just unbearable
Treado is definitely one of the best microeconomics professors at Pittsburgh from what I've heard compared to the others. I personally didn't learn anything from the lectures (optional), but the assigned readings were incredibly helpful. Grade-wise the exams are hard, but the other grades will balance it. The recitation activities are hard though.
A solid choice. Knows how to teach and explains things clearly. Lectures aren't content-heavy enough and so, in my opinion, aren't as useful as they could be. No need to use the textbook at all. In all honesty, you should be passing Intro to Micro easily regardless of the professor as long as you put in the work (it's a high school level class...).
I loved Prof. Treado and her class. She knows her stuff inside and out, and is very patient and personal for a professor who teaches hundreds of students every semester. Her course covers a lot of material, but as long as you thoroughly read the textbook and do the homework its an easy A and an enjoyable class.
Most of the learning is done outside of class, lectures are largely used for examples. Recitation really saved me interest-wise, but you'd still have a pretty easy A without that. Reading the textbook helps but isn't completely necessary. The mid-term/final weren't bad at all.
Very nice and clear when explaining information. Makes information easy to understand. Relates material to real life situations. Really sweet lady. Great choice for Intro to Microeconomics! only bad thing I have to say was that the exams are kinda hard but that's normal
The worst part of this class is that there are only 2 tests which are 25 percent of your grade each. So don't mess up on those and you'll be fine grade-wise. The weekly achieve hw was tedious but manageable. Doesn't really specify whats tested and is sometimes confusing during lecture.
She's nice in person and has the best of intentions. But I don't agree with her class structure. e.g. For zoom class she mandates attendance with 20s pop quizzes that you don't have time to read due to lag, tough luck. Group projects are randomly assigned; if teammates slack your grade's dragged down. So it takes luck to get A but A- is manageable.
please listen to this review before u take her. this class is awful u have to completely teach yourself and class does not help at all. just prepare for the worst.
Professor Treado is a great choice for Intro to Micro! I can say I learned a lot about economics, so if you want a good foundation, take her. Reading the textbook helps for the weekly Achieve quizzes but definitely doable without it if you pay attention in class. Only 2 exams, but fairly easy and all multiple choice.
I'm genuinely shocked by how low Professor Treado is generally rated, and I'm not even an econ major. Her class can be a bit time-demanding for what some may take as a general education requirement, but I would be lying if I didn't say that she is just an extremely genuine and bright person, making lectures and the material enjoyable and clear.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! She is one of the worst professors/teachers I've ever had. It's a flipped class so she doesn't even teach and she didn't even post all the actual lectures online for my final. Her tests are completely different than any of the homework. None of her assignments help with the tests. Just do not take her.
Her flipped class is a nightmare. There are only two tests and that's basically your whole grade. She can't teach and doesn't teach. Do not take her class. You end up having to teach yourself over everything and the materials you have to study are not even specified. None of her assignments like homework or quizzes help for the tests.
This class does not make any sense... I should've read the review before I signed up for her class. Please do yourselves a favor and take a different class or a different professor. It's a waste of time because you don't learn anything. Her tests do not make any sense and her flipped class online posted lectures are completely useless for tests.
Avoid this professor at all costs. The flipped classroom structure is terrible. All of the learning is done on your own. The two tests that determine your grade are hard.
Carey means well, but she does not know how to teach an intro-level micro class. The flipped classroom is terrible for this course and leaves students feeling beyond lost for the only two exams that she gives, the midterm and the final. If you take this class, be ready to study the textbook cover to cover because she does not teach what you need.
Great professor for microecon! It's flipped classroom, but you only need to watch short videos. Still, you are able to learn the material through her practice problems in class through TopHat. There are 2 main exams, but they are not bad at all. some questions/graphs from the midterm were from TopHat practice. She curves so the class avg is a C.
She gave us a 0.5 curve lol. So your exam grades are up by 1-2 point.
Dr. Treado is a good teacher. The class material is pretty difficult and there's only 2 exams which make up your grade. You have to attend lectures and take really good notes on the textbook, and go to all the recitations to do well. Definitely not an easy gen-ed or a low effort class, but totally possible to do well with some effort.
I'd say that the most important part of this class is studying for the midterm and the final. Don't expect that because you do well on the weekly quizzes that you will do well on the exams. The midterm and final were both 30 multiple choice questions. She only curves if the average is below a 71.5%.
I would take any other prof if you can. You essentially have to teach yourself and if she sees that the majority of the class answered something incorrectly her response is: "You guys really need to learn this." There are two exams which take up 50% of your grade in total. Don't expect her to give any direct answers to questions you're confused on.
Dr. Treado is a nice person, and she has the potential to be a 10/10 professor but the flipped classroom structure is the worst. You'll have to teach yourself the material and the lectures are a waste of time. all she does is cover a very minor part of the weekly material. It comes off so lazy and annoying to pay for the class to teach yourself.
Easy class, Good Professor. Uses a flipped classroom, so you have to watch the mini lectures before going into class. Lectures are pretty entertaining and she's good at what she does. I never once touched the textbook and still got an A. The material is easy to understand with a few hard topics but it's basically a HS level course.
Treado is a good professor with understanding lectures, but the flipped classroom sucks. You pretty much have to teach yourself 80% of the material before going to lecture and she only covers a small bit of the material each week. Also don't expect to do well on exams if you do well on the homework.
I took econ in high school and I didn't learn anything new in this course. She operates under a flipped classroom so you really don't have to go to class. When I went, I found lectures to be very boring. As long as you do the readings and achieve quizzes you'll be fine. The final was definitely more difficult than the midterm so study!!
Weekly activity, quiz, and recitation worksheet make up 50% of the final grade, usually with multiple attempts. Read the textbook to do well on these. Flipped schedule means most learning is done outside of class, but Treado was nice and accessible- very helpful in office hours. Exams based more on lectures. You'll do well if you do the work!
Flipped classroom structure is easy. Just watch assigned videos before class. Lecture time, most of which I used to do the weekly homework, is review with some optional TopHat questions. Exams are somewhat difficult, but they are entirely multiple choice and are curved. Lecture attendance is not mandatory, but recitation attendance is.
Difficult to understand
unreasonable grading with group projects that she has her student TA grade. When I asked her to specify why our group got the grade that we got she was passive-aggressive and made me feel stupid for not knowing how to do something she never taught. Has an absurd amount of tophat questions throughout the entire lecture every single time. She's rude.
While Prof Treado is a very nice lady, her grading style is unforgiving. 4 ten question exams make up 50% of your grade. Unless you are sure that you know economics, I wouldn't take her class. You end up basically teaching yourself everything. I would only recommend this professor to people I hate.
Best option for Micro. Makes lectures interesting. Exams are a big part of the grade so make sure to study.
If you do the weekly assignments, attend recitation, and comprehend the material you'll have an easy A. If you don't understand the material, good luck. Lecture isn't mandatory, but it helps to attend for practice. No extra credit, no final, 4 exams.
Took this class as a Gen Ed. Big mistake. 4 exams that consist of 10 multiple choice questions make up half your grade. No room for error. TAs are awful as well. Stay away!!
She runs a flipped-classroom, so if you don't like that I'd recommend taking another professor. She is a very nice person and is knowledgeable with the concepts. I thought she was a pretty good professor. The way she weights the class is 4 exams make up 50% of the grade, online weekly hw is 40%, recitation is 10%. She's fair and I recommend.
Uses current events to relate to topics that can seem confusing. I have taken her twice and probably will take her again. She also is very caring and a great prof for intro to micro if you are a freshman.
Exams are 10 questions and only 20 minutes. Didn't even have time to think for a second about any question because before you know it time is up. Took this class as a gened and she treats it like we are all business majors. If you plan on taking her to fulfill a gen-ed DO NOT RECOMMEND. You will seriously regret it.
This class set up was weird and you were to watch lecture videos before class. It didn't seem too effective to learn this way at first but i barely watched the videos and mainly did the achieve assignments and still got decent test scores. There was no final for this course which was godsend. Carey is sweet in lecture.
Flipped lecture style, which I liked as a lot of the time I do better when I self teach. Treado is pretty average, nothing that makes me love the class but I also didn't hate it either. I really liked micro in general, and Treade is very good at solidifying content through in class problems. Lectures are boring but not mandatory
Wouldn't take as a gen ed. Because of the flipped structure, there's a lot of homework and her lectures aren't very helpful. Interesting content at times and if she continues with the online exams, I'd recommend her. Probably better professors, but she's not horrible.
Weekly quizzes sucked the life out of me, so difficult and most of it wasn't on the exam. She does seem to actually care about her students though. there are 4 exams each worth 12.5% of your final grade so if you do bad on one and its not curved you are kinda screwed (she curves so the average is a C unless it is above than she won't curve)
Professor Treado was great. She never failed to have a positive attitude in class and her excitement about economics made the class much more engaging. Her exams were hard since they are only 10 questions, but as long as you try on the homework and quizzes the tests are very manageable. Did not expect to like economics, but she made it enjoyable.
There was quite a but of HW and her tests were hit or miss. The tests weren't very difficult, but they were only 10 questions and quite easy to fail if you didn't know specifically what they were asking. To only have 10 questions to judge your knowledge of 4 chapters is quite nerve-wracking, but if you get lucky on the exams you'll do well.
Professor Treado operates with a flip classroom, so if you like learning by yourself and reviewing in class take treado. Her class is 30% final, 30% homework, 30% quizzes, and 10% recitation. The quizzes are not too bad, barely went to class and did fine on them. Quizzes are open note, take Treado if you can, there is def worse micro professors.
Dr. Treado is a caring professor who is a great choice for Into to Micro. Holds regular office hours and is happy to help anyone. Has 4 quizzes, with the lowest grade dropped (they are 10 questions each, which I personally do not like). If you put in the work, you can get a good grade fairly easily, but this class isn't an easy A. Good lecturer
I loved professor Treado! She is one of the best Econ professors at Pitt. She outlines at the beginning of the year what you need to do to get an A, and if you time manage and attend lectures, it shouldn't be too difficult. There is weekly homework and quizzes, but they are low-stress. Her lectures are interesting, and you can tell she cares.
I really liked Professor Treado. The quizzes are open notes and there is weekly homework which isn't too bad. Lecture isn't mandatory but I'd recommend going because the examples we did in class were very beneficial. She recommends watching the mini lectures, I never watched a single one and if you are going to lecture you really don't need them.
Professor Treado really likes economics and her passionate attitude is really nice to have. She gets excited and it definitely creates a positive environment. Her quizzes aren't too hard if you pay attention and they're all open note. Her final exam was way easier than all of her quizzes.
Dr. Treado is energetic and caring. Her class is fast paced but if you stay on track it should be an easy class. The grade system is fair and she is very approachable in office hours. I recommend if you're a normal/fast learner.
I LOVED HER. Such a good teacher. Super helpful. Exams were 10 multiple choice that were easy, dropped the lowest one. Final was all easy multiple choice Notes are done before clas, practice problems to be completed during class. Easy to learn at own pace. 10/10 recommend her shes the sweetest. Office hours are helpful.Easy to contact
Prof Treado is nice and cheery but I hated the class, lecture notes and top hat questions are fairly helpful but the ten-question quizzes we took were not it, you do bad on two out of the four your grade is basically screwed (which means getting just a few questions wrong), final wasn't bad but wasn't enough to help my grade, do not take the class
Prof. Treado always had a great attitude during lectures and was very helpful to any student who needed assistance. As long as you do the weekly problem sets and pay attention during lectures, you will easily pass this class with a B. There are many online resources to access if you need help and Prof. Treado is very willing to help you too.
Very enthusiastic, and readily available for help. The class as a whole is graded mostly on problem sets (which are free A's), four quizzes w/ ten questions each (with the lowest score of them being dropped), and an easy final exam. Would take again.
While economics was never a course I enjoyed, Prof. Treado was probably the best professor I could've asked for, for the course. Lectures were straight to the point and weren't hard to understand. She PERFECTLY outlines her quizzes and larger exams, word for word listen to what she describes the exams as.
Very good and passionate professor! Would definitely recommend for microeconomics. As long as you do the problem sets which are very easy, you will be fine on quizzes. Attend recitation and actually do attend lectures because it is fun and you can see how passionate Professor Treado is.
She was definitely a good choice for ECON0100. There were a good amount of points, but the quizzes should have been more. Even though her lectures were pretty scattered, her quizzes were similar to what she covered. Her attitude was always so positive, which was nice. She teaches in a flipped classroom style, so there are minilectures every week.
Definitely take treado if you can. She does a flipped classroom so most of the material is learned outside the class with very helpful and easily understandable videos and readings. She does alot of practice problems in class and there are a bunch to do on your own. One 30 question hw a week thats time consuming but the quizzes and finalare all MCQ
Great professor and interesting lectures. The only reason why I thought it was "tough grading" was because the multiple-choice quizzes were out of 10. The final was just like the quizzes and she prepares you very well for it. Great over all understanding of Micro.
A bit of a difficult class that I struggled with at times. We had four 20-minute-long quizzes throughout the semester that were each only 10 questions. The quizzes would be on multiple chapters so it would be difficult to figure out what topics to study the most. Luckily the quizzes are open note, but the final is not.
Carey is a very sweet lady. She tries to make lectures engaging, but it was difficult for me to pay attention in a 300 person lecture hall. Graded on 4 quizzes which were considerably difficult (1 is dropped), weekly homework, recitation participation, and a final. Final was much easier than quizzes. Apply yourself and you will be okay!
Bulk of your grade is on 4 (one is dropped)10 question quizzes with questions that are designed to trick you. The final is much better, mostly main ideas, however those quizzes will very quickly mess you up. Carey does make lectures interesting, however, in the one-on-one interactions I had with her she did not show her students very much respect.
I thought Professor Treado was a fine teacher. Yes the tests were only 10 points which I thought was a little odd, but they really werent that hard. I feel like people are freaking out too much about that. She explained everything very well and the lectures were not bad at all. If you pay attention youll be fine
She was okay as a professor. Did flipped classroom so there was no point in going to lecture unless you were lost. Tests and quizzes were extremely easy. Final exam average was around 85. Recitation attendance is mandatory. Probably the easiest class I've taken at Pitt.
Honestly one of the worst professors I have ever taken. Not helpful with emails, honestly borderline rude. She also had us do group projects and when I really struggled with my group she was of no assistance. Her teaching and the class itself was fine, just really disliked her as a person and wouldn't recommend taking any of her classes.
Took her for ECON international capstone: Economics of Human Rights. The class was so enlightening, and she was great at stimulating discussion. Semester long project that she requires weekly submissions (not for a grade). There are weekly papers due, but they aren't that long. She is really big on grammar! Definitely recommend for capstone.
Carey is amazing. She put so much effort into this class, with each week covering a different human rights concern. You'll also be working on a semester-long research project, deep diving into a company and its policies. She's approachable and really kind.
Homework was tedious and long, just don't wait until the last minute. 4 multiple choice 10 questions exams. Final exam was also multiple choice and very easy. Go to class, go to recitation, and do your homework and you'll be fine
The majority of your grade is from the 3 exams which are each only 10 questions so you can't afford to get any wrong. There is a lot of homework on achieve but it isn't worth much. Very little room for mistakes.
Treado is a great professor! She's very enthusiastic and cares about the class understanding the material. Quizzes are open note + open book except for the final. I would definitely recommend her, she's also a very sweet lady and knows her stuff. Only issue with the class was the recitation TA being incompetent but Treado's class is great.
absolutely the best. everything you can want from a prof: a great teacher, accessible outside of class, clear grading, hw that makes lectures make more sense, and fair tests. she is amazing. i enjoyed this class without even being an econ major.
Not sure why she is hyped up so much but the class wasn't too hard. Grade based on 5 quizzes, the final was optional for us this semester, weekly homework, and recitation. The homework were extremely long and difficult sometimes like 35 questions and they're barely worth any of your grade. Recitation was useless in helping you understand material
Treado is a very nice lady, and she keeps her class/canvas page very organized. She posts instructions each week on what she specifically wants you to watch/read. As long as you pay attention and write stuff down, the homework and quizzes will be easy. She made the final optional because of its late time slot. Recitation is mandatory (2 free skips)
Prof. Treado was a really great lecturer. Attendance was optional but her lectures were intriguing and great at covering all of the necessary material. My only complaint was that a large portion of your grade is determined by only 5 quizzes that were 10 questions each. You can drop one quiz grades, but each missed question can have a big impact.
I feel like this class needs to be longer than 50 minutes twice a week. It felt difficult to really grasp just by the lectures, you need to do all of the material she included in the weekly agenda (which can be really time consuming). The quizzes are all based on application because they are all open note, so beware.
super easy. You're given videos and quick readings to prepare for class where she reviews the material and gives practice problems. The quizzes are all open notes and one gets dropped. There are practice problems that are due every week but they're again super easy and open note with 2 chances. the final was also optional for those who needed it.
The only major grades are 5 open-note quizzes and the closed-note final (with mostly quiz questions). Homework is minimal with about 30 problem set questions a week. Slides and flipped lectures posted, which makes attendance completely optional. Recitation attendance is required, but it's only a participation grade. Easy class.
The homework assignments could be long but you get used to it. Lecture was pretty unhelpful because you have to watch lectures outside of class that were too time consuming. The quizzes leave room for little mistakes
Class is pretty straight forward. You have some online homework that is graded on accuracy every week, and 5 quizzes. If you do not do good on the quizzes your grade will suffer. You do get a note sheet for each quiz but not for the final.
Lectures are very helpful and Prof Treado is a great professor. Only downside is that there were 5 ten multiple choice question quizzes that counted for 30% of your grade. However they were all open notes and were only on ~3 weeks worth of content each. Homework ranges from 20-30 questions a week also worth 30%. Learned a lot from her class.
i really enjoyed this class. you didn't need to show up to lecture bc she posts mini lectures online for each lesson. there is a homework set due each week which are not very difficult sometimes time consuming though. there are 5 10 problem multiple choice quizzes throughout the semester that are somewhat difficult but are open note
This class and Dr. Treado were fine. Her lectures were fine. My main issue with this class was that quizzes would have not very many questions, and the questions would often be misleading or unfair. Getting a question wrong because it was trying to fool you instead of actually test your knowledge was extremely frustrating, and a common theme.
Fantastic teacher. Good at explaining things and always stays back after class to make sure no one has any unanswered questions. Her lectures are engaging and very helpful and the homework is a good supplement too. Just be careful of quizzes because they sneak up on you if you aren't paying attention. All quizzes are open note, which was also nice.
Her lectures are engaging and easy to understand, and well-supplemented by the textbook. I found it very easy to get an A by attending class, reading the textbook ahead of lectures, and using the homework as practice for quizzes.
Do not take her for International Econ. Attendance is required but she just talks at you with a few tophat questions used for attendance. The exams are where she lacks. No helpful prep and so much content that its impossible to review everything yourself just for it to be focused on one topic with tricky worded questions to "check understanding".
Great professor, and probably one of my top 3 at Pitt. Her communication, structuring of the course, and overall teaching style is amazing. She's definitely one of the kindest professors I have and she genuinely cares for your success if you put your best foot forward. It is *a lot* of reading, but I'd definitely recommend her for capstone.
Enjoyed her for Intro to Micro, but this class was much different. Lectures are unintriguing. Grade is dependent on group projects, which were graded harshly and brought my grade down significantly. Groupmates are chosen at the very beginning of semester and you stuck with them for the rest of the course. Pray you get a good group.
Intelligent, friendly, and caring. Expect an unbelievable amount of reading, but also to learn how to talk about important topics coherently. I feel like I've gained so much insight about how the world works from her class, mostly because the class discussions aren't afraid to explore big ideas.
GREAT teacher. Group Project policy, however, is a huge negative. Makes it very difficult to get a good grade in the class. Also, no extra credit.
So sweet and very caring about what she teaches! Lecture attendance was not required but I went as I love her demeanor. Graded mostly by the final and 6 quizzes. I didn't like the recitation format; there was no need to review worksheet answers in class. I would rather have been given the time to work then and looked for posted answers later.
Her lectures are fine, most of my issues are with the achieve assignments and recitation assignments. I feel like she gives us nothing to help us with these and they don't work very well if you want to use them to review as the achieve assignments don't tell you what you did wrong. her graphs during lectures are hard to read as well
I have friends with different professors all getting high As, as one should in a class with an easy concept like micro. Do anything you can to take a different professor, as while she is nice and teaches well, her grading system is the worst I have ever seen on my entire life and it is absolutely ridiculous.
The set-up of this class makes it pretty hard to get a good grade. The final grade is made up of 5 ten point mcq quizzes that have questions that can trick you. The lowest quiz gets dropped making 4 ten point quizzes 50% of your grade so the class is tough especially for an intro class, if you can I would recommend another prof for intro to micro.
I did enjoy her class, however there were some things that were a bit difficult. She teaches the concepts well, but doesn't teach much to the homework, which matters since with the 5 quizzes and recitation activities, are the only grades in the class. I did understand the concepts, but wish it wouldn't have been as stressful to do good on homework
I enjoyed Dr. Treado's class a lot. It was very easy as long as you keep up with what she provides. She is very clear on what is expected of her students and gives a lot of resources to help. The only scary thing is that 50% of your grade is based on 5 ten question quizzes, making them high stakes. Overall I really enjoyed and learned a lot.
Extremely well-structured class and seasoned professor. Lectures were well paced and engaging, with no-credit questions. Treado is kind and so happy to teach. Problem set (only weekly homework) was easy, and recitation helped cement my understanding. Definitely would take again; attending all the lectures and recitations will help.
The quizzes are designed to trick you and 50% of the grade is tied up in 40 points. I got a relatively high grade on all of them (8 or 9 out of 10) and I'm still getting a B+. Her grading is way too unforgiving for an intro class.
I liked her. I feel as if I could have done more to get a higher grade. One thing I really disliked was how 50% of our grades were based off of 10 question/point quizzes. You know the ones where you get 2 wrong and get an 80. Yeah so I feel as if that should be fixed, but overall if you put the work in, you will be ok. Last quiz was hell.
Professor Treado is a very understanding person, but I do feel that there should be some extra credit offered based on the grading system. Quizzes are tricky and are half of your points, so they will either make or break your grade. However, homework and recitation are easy ways to compensate this.
I DID NOT like her as a prof at all. The way this class was graded was absolutely ridiculous and the quizzes had questions meant to trick you (50% of ur grade was 4, 10 point mcq quizzes). I used all the resources given to study for the quizzes and still ended with a B. If you can take another prof I would highly recommend!!!!
Dr. Treado is a great professor. She gives engaging lectures and the homework every week is fairly easy. The class has 5 ten question quizzes which make up most of your grade, but you are allowed to have a cheat sheet which makes it easier. If you're taking intro micro, Dr. Treado is the best choice!
Prof. Treado's lectures are engaging and helpful, with the textbook adding great supplementation. Quizzes can be tricky, but doing the weekly homework and using tools like unstuck study for study prep really helps. Overall, a manageable class if you stay on top of things.
Prof. Treado is a very great lecturer and is able to make abstract concepts very relatable. I found that I learned A TON from this class without it being overly difficult. Expect problem sets and quizzes, but nothing crazy.
Never went to class and got an A. 5 quizzes with a cheat sheet for each. Worst quiz dropped. No midterm/final. Weekly homework, sometimes difficult but manageable. Go to recitation- there is group work but very helpful.
Easy class, never been to the lectures and only studied before quizes. Class is managable and concepts are relatively easy. Recitation attendance is mendatory.
Did not learn anything. The lectures you do not learn anything. Would not take again.
She's a good lecturer but my main issue was how quickly you lose credit for wrong answers on HW questions. Your HW grade can be the difference between an A and B+. The trick is to find 2-3 people to do them with and you'll get 98-99% every time. Quizzes are fine as long as you copy down her notes in the lectures and maximize your cheat sheet.
Very clear and informational lectures. The pre-lecture videos and textbook really help understand the topics due to it being a 200 person lecture. No exams, just 5 ten question quizzes and you get to drop one. For recitation all you have to do is show up and you get 10/10. Overall a god class and I would recommend taking this for a Gen Ed.
I thought Professor Treado was very good. She gave a decent amount of homework, but it never became overwhelming. She gave 5 quizzes, allowing you to drop 1. The tests were manageable, and you get a whole sheet of notes. Overall, not the easiest teacher ever, but I definitely learned and retained a lot of information from her and would recommend.
I have no idea how she does not have a lower rating, honestly do not listen to the other reviews she is horrible and the grading is so unforgiving I do not recommend at all. If you can try to take another professor.
Just reads off of a power point slide every single lecture. I learned nothing in this class and do not recommend taking it if you haven't taken micro before. There's pretty much 4/5 quizzes that she grades you on, each 10 points so it is super easy for your grade to fall in this class. She is a super nice professor but I personally did not like her
She doesn't give extra credit when needed, half of your grade is based on 4 quizzes designed to trip you up. During lectures, she goes off of a PowerPoint instead of actually teaching. Would not recommend taking her class for Intro to Economics.
Pretty easy class to get at least a B in. She doesn't give extra credit but that should not matter as long as you are keeping up with homework and doing alright on tests.
I think her lectures are great for getting examples and recapping what we read in the online textbook, but I feel like her class was mostly taught through textbook with the lectures being supplementary. The recitations helped me more than she did.
I did most of my learning through reading textbook but if you go to Dr. Treado she'll be very helpful and connect with you. I loved this class but you have to understand things conceptually and devote time out of class to studying. I love Dr. Treado take her and go to office hours!
Not sure why she has so many good reviews, she's not a great professor. The flipped classroom structure is horrible, the quizzes are purposefully meant to confuse you/have you second-guess yourself, and lots of homework. Take another professor if you can. The only reason I even passed this class was by teaching myself and going to the TA's OH.
50% of final grade is based off of 10 question MC quizzes. So very easy to do goof on, but also very easy to do bad on if you do not understand the material. She is a very good lecturer, and although there is quite a bit of homework, it really does help you understand the material. Allowed 1 full page of notes for the quizzes. Very down to earth.
Great professor, very helpful and supportive! Only graded on quizzes, homework and recitation attendance
Don't take this class with Carey unless you absolutely have to. Quizzes are hard, lots of homework every week, she "doesn't believe" in extra credit, and she's not super helpful (at least in my experience). The class is a flipped classroom, so get ready to teach yourself everything. Also way too difficult for an INTRO level econ class.
Dr Treado was nice and was always there to help if needed but the class was graded on barely anything. 5 12 question quizzes and a homework assignment every week. The quizzes were a bit tricky and it's unlikely that she will curve them.
Very easy class if you keep up with the work. 5 quizzes and lowest gets dropped. If you know what you're doing on the problem sets you're set for the quizzes. Show up to recitation and you get full credit, 2 skips allowed.
Lectures weren't the most helpful but I still found some value. Even though lectures can be unclear she gives so many other resources it doesn't really matter. Grade is 50% based on 5 12 Q MC quizzes with 1 drop and honestly they're easy if you spend just an hour looking at the resources she has. Easy-ish A with no background in econ, I'd take her
I took her class last semester, and I genuinely enjoy learning in her class. I will say that half of your grade is based on 5 quizzes (one drop). The other half is HW and recitation attendance. However, the class is not hard as long as you put the effort in to understand the concepts. I recommend going to her office hours! She is the best!!
The flipped classroom system is just terrible, makes wanting to engage in class feel like an uphill battle. Lectures are average and top hat questions are useless. Quizzes aren't hard + you get a cheat sheet, but you have to lock in since there's so few points. Only really good part is recitation, group work is kind of fun with the right people.
This is the worst professor at Pitt do not take anything with Treado. Worst class I've ever taken. Had friends at other schools taking micro and easily passing. Studied so hard for every test and never got above a C. Everyone I knew in this class was also struggling. Wait for another professor trust me and save your GPA.
ask her for extra credit she will give it to, kidding no she wont. We love our queen but her lectures are boring as hell. but its okay bc she gives info, react on tophat for extra credit
The people complain are those who skipped the lecture and didn't do the hw. This is quite literally the easiest class ever. There is no tests only 5 quizzes and the rest of your grade is based on attending recitation and doing the easy hw. You get a cheat sheet for all 5 quizzes and the lowest score is dropped. Just go to class and learn the basics
If you don't have a prior background in economics, don't take her. Makes the easy concepts hard and the hard ones even harder. No extra credit, no partial credit on quizzes. Tons of homework and 5 quizzes through the semester compared to other professors who offer extra credit, partial credit and only two tests. Take another professor for the class
This class was easy because I showed up to the lectures and the professor was clear and understandable on the topics. Just pay attention and study the achieve homework questions for the quizzes.
don't take her as a professor unless you have learned about economics before. she is so sweet and definitely cares about her students, but i just don't think she's made for big lectures. i attended every class/recitation and took notes every class and i am still probably going to fail. you have weekly problem sets that are also kind of challenging.
She is good, not sure why there are so many mixed reviews. drops one exam, 10 questions on each exam, not much hard work. She doesn't really curve exams or final grades :(
I took econ in high school and still struggled because she made the concepts harder than they needed to be. The weekly homework helps a bit, but the quizzes don't always match it. She is very kind and helpful during office hours.
There are no exams or final but only 5 quizzes with 12 multiple choice questions each. Your lowest grade can be dropped but they are a bulk of your grade. Weekly homework assignments and readings. Mandatory recitation meetings each week for points.
Dr. Treado has very helpful lectures, they were crucial for information on how to do the weekly practices sets. As long as you paid attention in class, it was fairly easy. You're graded on 5 quizzes, with your lowest dropped, as well as attendance in recitation and some weekly problems sets. The quizzes were fairly easy, and you get a note sheet
The lectures were very similar to what was in the textbook and the assigned videos. It sometimes took a while, but as long as you follow the weekly instructions, the lectures are pretty straightforward. The quizzes weren't too bad as long as you did practice problems, and she lets you have a cheat sheet.
Very clear and understandable lectures. Many people think she goes fast, but studying on your own makes it easy to catch up and understand. The first quiz throws many people off. They are not unreasonably difficult but just be ready for that. Overall, I thought she was a great professor that made lectures straightforward.
She was nice and knew the material well, however she goes fast. I didn't take micro in HS so it was hard for me to understand and I ended up having to teach myself. There are 5 quizzes for which you get a cheat sheet, lowest gets dropped and weekly Achieve hw sets, you get 2 attempts per question. Recitation was doing practice problems in groups.
Professor Treado was great! Had her for Intro to Microeconomics. She's a great teacher and the class is super easy. Just do the homework and you'll pass with flying colors.
Only downsides are dull lectures, and grading is done based on hundredths, not tenths place. I would've gotten an A- otherwise. Just try to take light notes during lecture, for definitions and study for the quizzes (12 questions). GO TO RECITATION. If you miss, email the TA in time and you can make it up! Chill professor and class.
Decent professor, I wouldn't say lectures were really engaging, though there were a few. Basic slide reading + tophat Qs. Best 4/5 quizzes are only 12 MC each, which is waaay to few to be worth 50% total. Class avg was normally like 70%, so it was hard to get back up. Easy online hw. Incredible recitations, I would've rather just had only those.
