Very helpful and holds good discussions in class. Very interesting and easy to understand. Midterm was very easy, but made up for it by making the final pretty hard. But overall, pretty easy class and interesting. She's also smoking hot and occasionally slips a about her sex life which helps to keep your attention!

Takes the time to help students, encourages class discussions - does not talked about her sex life as one rater indicated but she did openly discuss the realities of teens having sex, so she is open and honest. If you are interested in adolescence, this is the course to take.

Great prof! Will do anything she can to help you out, and she tries to prepare you for upper level psy classes. Gives good instructions and a clear outline for the paper. Definitely would recommend taking this class with her.

she's a good prof who cares about her subject and her students. She is a hard marker on papers though, so know your stuff. personally got along with her quite well

Tests were relatively easy if you study the lecture notes. The paper was really easy as long as you followed the APA style to the exact detail.

Great prof, very interested in the topic she teaches about. Friendly, knowledgable, and is willing to make a few exceptions if needed. Attend lectures since notes are fill in the blank slides, and read text. ( really useful and up to date)Hard term paper, if it's your first one, but she is careful to outline what's expected. Great Prof, helpful if asked but will not do it for you! Always willing to clarify things and to offer advice when needed on the term paper. Not an easy class if you don't attend the lectures and the term paper is a tough one if you have not done a pysch paper before. OVerall good class - would definately recommend!

Carie is a very good teacher and strives to ensure the class is understanding the lecture material. However, her assignment guidelines are extremely vague and she refused to provide me clarification. She can come off condescending in a brief discussion but actually is very friendly. Her tests are fair and clear.

Good proff. Makes her lectures clear and gives good notes. She paces her course well and is a fair marker. She isn't "easy" by standards but that is only because she is not a pushover. Definitely take one of her classes if you can.

Carie is an awesome prof. She is really interested in educating her students. She is up to date on most subjects, and is genuinely excited about adolescence. She is very helpful, but won't give you the answer straight out. Her class was engaging and she has a good sense of humour. The kind of class you will actually WANT to attend.

I loved Carie! She was very interested in what everybody had to say and worked so hard to ensure that everybody understood. She made sure that everybody came to visit her to get to know her better. I would certainly take another class with her, but she does not tolerate those who talk in class, are uninterested, or who do not show up every day.

She does not test anything out of the text although there are good examples in the text to help with exam questions. She gives hints as to what the short answers are on the exams. She is condescending and can be very rude. Do not text or talk at all in her class.

I find it mildly hilarious that people are calling her rude. She calls people out who are chatting in class. It is usually a pretty small class, and if you are talking constantly that's a distraction and she basically tells you to please stop. Not really rude in my opinion. I loved her for adolescent psych. Huge beauty. Easy class.

Carrie is an awesome prof. She is not our to trick you or fail anyone. If you attend classes, pay attention and do assignments according to her requirements you should have no problem. I found her very approachable and friendly. I would recommend her as a prof to anyone who actually attends classes and isn't on facebook the entire time.

Straight forward and overall a nice prof. She likes to have discussions so you understand the concepts. She also gives you outlines for your notes which was helpful. If you fill out her notes and go to class, you will do decent on the exams.

She's super willing to help students succeed. She offers her help constantly and points out helpful resources. She wants her students to succeed and will sacrifice her own time to ensure that it happens.

Carie is a wonderful person but she expects too much. She is quite frankly the foggiest marker I have ever had. She makes tons of comments on your submitted work, but never teaches you how to improve your writing. Her tips are too little too late. I would not take her class again.

Carie is a good prof. She cares about students doing well in her class and will give help if she believes you are really trying. Those who don't put in the effort may find her tough since she doesn't just hand out do-overs or extensions. You will need to work for your grade in her class but you can receive an A if you try.

Gives great lectures which are very very interesting. She marks pretty hard and there is a lot of reading to do for this class. I found that when I talked to her about my assignments outside of class she was quite rude even though she encourages you to make appointments and ask if you have any questions.

I found Carie a dynamic and engaged professor. She was easy to approach and willing to give help if needed. Assignment were toughly marked, but in a way that you could improve for the next one. She demands respect in her classroom, which is completely fair. The material itself is very interesting.

Carrie is the kind of professor who knows that a good student is hisher own worst enemy. She's less the type to give you a pat on the back and tell you "good job" than she is the type to tell you "you can do better", and I loved her for it. Even so, she still did something very kind for me without me asking, and I'm very grateful for that, too.

I honestly love her class. She has made her expectations very clear for the assignments and the exams and is always there when we need help. Her lecture slides are awesome and I love the way she engages the students into very interesting discussions. I love her style of making students read the book through filling the gaps in the notes slides.

Dr. Buchanan is a good professor. She is always there to help you if you need some clarification. She really knows her material and very well prepared for every lecture. Class material is heavy but surely a good foundation for future research. I recommend taking her class when you are really serious about knowing research methods.

I've taken two classes with Carie, Adolescent Development and Research Methods. Carie is a nice woman, and she does post notes, but they're fill in the blanks so you should still try not to miss any class. Tests are tough, but she helps with clues during class time. If your not into research psych, methods is pretty boring, but there are no papers!

She's an incredible prof and always give you a chance for redemption. I ended with a 97% in her class, SUPER EASY!!

Absolutely fantastic! Really caring about stuff that's happening and extended deadlines for the whole class. Midterm was really easy if you read through everything. Make sure you listen to the lectures! She talks about things that isn't necessarily in the slides. Class with her was fun! I enjoy it very much! MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE TEXTBOOK.

Carie was a very good professor. The class has a lot of material, as the tests come both from the notes and the textbook, however I found the tests to be fair. She has a fill in the blank style of notes, so attendance is mandatory. She can be a bit intimidating, but she is extremely approachable. Put in a bit of effort and a high grade is possible.

Approachable and willing to see students outside of class for help which is always nice. The material is straight out of the textbook so its fairly easy to fill in her slides using the textbook instead of going to class. There were 3 written assignments which were kind of a pain considering it is only a second year course but overall super nice!

Carie was incredibly caring and wants her students to do well. I didn't do great on my first midterm but she gave the option of disregarding midterm marks and having a higher weight on your final. She gave good feedback, although feedback is much better if you have a meeting with her and talk in person, she always had hours available for meetings.

Carie is the best professor I have ever had. She taught me that the class energy really depends on the prof. She made me fall in love with research methods and gave me a strong confidence in my other psych classes. If you go to class and do the readings you will do amazing!

Carie is absolutely amazing. She gives so much to class discussion, is highly encouraging and understanding about student circumstances, and genuinely wants you to succeed. Take any kind of psych class with her and you are guaranteed a passionate professor to learn from. There is a fair bit of reading, and coming to class is vital for success.

Carie is one of those profs who really cares about each of her students and their success. She will work with you to get the best mark you possibly can in her class. Because she expects so much though she is a tough marker! She often has slightly confusing criteria for marking. Additionally, in this particular class, there were a lot of papers.

Carie was great for a lot of reasons: gives very descriptive feedback, cares a lot about students, and highly encourages meeting with her outside of class. She was more difficult than I expected though. All textbook info is testable, but she teaches an entirely new set of material in lecture. 2 written assignments, term paper, midterm, final.

marked tough on asgmt and essay but the midterm, final, and tophat participation and performance were way easier. Not necessary to read the full textbook chs, she provides skeleton notes for readings so you can just skim and fill in blanks. If you fill the notes in ahead of time, tophat qu's are easy. She also provides exam SA qu's before test

Overall, I enjoyed Carie's psych 214 class. She was easily accessible outside class. Her skeleton notes were helpful, as it was clear what slides needed to be filled in from lectures and which needed to be filled from textbook. The one assignment and term paper were not too difficult, and marking was pretty fair.

Class focusses on theory and research rather than application. Easy to get good marks and Dr B gives opportunities to make up for bad results. Not helpful over email but VERY helpful in person. Provides possible topics of long answer questions before exams and provides exact essay question before final. Fill in slides she provides and youll be good

Carie is interesting. Although I got the feeling that she didn't care in the beginning of the semester, it was nice to see that she handled the covid situation so well. She gave student many options for the final (personally I was elated with the short answer final), she was patient and overall an amazing pro. Tough grader with no clear criteria

DEFINITELY take a statistics course before this class. She kind of assumed everyone had (I hadn't) she has a weird note-taking thing where you have to search the textbook to fill in the blanks which I wasn't a fan of so I reviewed that in SLEQ so maybe it'll change but otherwise p good!

Carie is a great professor. Her class is very textbook oriented so be ready to read and make notes. She's very clear on how marks can be earned (even offered bonus marks from random questions throughout that don't require thinking). She's flexible and willing to accommodate students' needs. My advice is stay up-to date with lectures and have a book

Carie is a great prof, but doesn't put up with crap from students. She's a bit scary and a little bit impatient, but overall very kind and passionate about her subject areas. Going to class is very important with her, but you'll learn a lot.

My experience was awesome! After confusion about a due date, she reached out to me and asked if I would like an extension since I had a busy week, and had confusion over the due date. VERY accommodating, and any question or concern i had (online) she always replied no more than 20 minutes later. Her feedback prepares you well for any future essays

My best advice is to go in knowing that no grade in Carie's class will go unearned. I went in expecting to get by on my ability to listen and take good notes. Bad idea. Small mistakes in writing assignments can cost you big, and expect sharp criticisms. Be aware she also has rather progressive social views. Overall, solid teacher. Fun challenge!

Carie is good on what she's doing and she knows what she wants, so always ask if you're not sure with any content cause she will be happy to help. 235 is heavy on textbook and her exams are more applied. I just didn't like how she gave lots of readings within a short amount of time, but besides that I think she's great.

There is a lot of content to cover in this class - not surprising when you consider the subject. Amount of reading/difficulty of class doesn't reflect her as a professor. Carie provides opportunity to check your understanding through regular quizzes, encourages review of exams with her, one on one, and offers opportunity for bonus marks.

Carie was super caring and wanted us to do well in her class. She marked pretty hard but gave good feedback so by the end of the term, everyone started doing better. The class was super time-consuming with many papers and debates to participate in, but Carie was super encouraging throughout the term.

Great professor! She had insightful lectures that were easy to understand. Showing up to class is recommended as she gave hints for the final throughout the semester. She gave hints for the short answers and the essay question for the final. If you show up to class, it's not a hard class to pass.

If you are a chronic skipper, and put in minimal effort, look elsewhere. If you are willing to push yourself, follow structure, and grow as a student, look no further. She respects students who show up and actually reads announcements and the syllabus. Meet with her and you'll succeed!! I had a 64 after the first midterm. Ended the class with an 80
