Prof. Aronson speaks really fast and isn't the best at explaining things. I suggest if you have a question don't be shy and if you need help GET. IT. EARLY. Also it helps to print your notes out before class and just highlight what he talks about since he flips through slides really fast.
Aronson is just overall a pretty awful instructor. The lectures make no sense and the slides are completely useless. It is currently October 2018 when I'm writing this, and I do not know one person in my class who is passing. Our first test average was a 38. The second, a 26. And for some reason, he believes it's our fault the grades are bad.
Overall a terrible teacher, & not just for a few. CLASS WIDE we are failing. The man spends the entirety of the lectures making jokes & TRYING to be funny. He gets frustrated when you ask questions & his tests are hard as hell. 10/10 do not recommend.
Ive never struggled with school until this class. He laughs in your face if you ask for help. If you ask a question, he gets mad. He blames you for failing the test, when literally every single student in the class is failing. You can make 100s on all of his assignments but the weight of the tests will fail you.
I passed. Wasnt easy, but he is a very nice and professional professor. Ask questions, read the textbook, youll make it.
Professor Aronson is an entertaining, enthusiastic lecturer. I enjoyed his humor and wit, yet found his lectures to be extremely confusing and his explanations of concepts inconclusive. Do NOT take this class unless it is a required class. Also, beware of the dreaded Sapling Learning homework that is both expensive and mandatory.
I have been in this class for 3 weeks and I'm already crying over 1/12 homework assignments due on Monday and I'm 6 hours in :))))))))))
To simply put it, he is a bad professor. A professor should introduce the material and make sure the students understand. The professor should then show examples of problems and actually EXPLAIN how to solve them rather than just showing an answer pulled from thin air. Students need actual practice problems to learn. My man needs to quit w the puns
His class is one youll fail and it wont be your fault. He assigned 30 hours of hw before the other professors talked to him Doesnt explain anything. He made a joke about everyone in the class failing. 1/4 of the class actually shows up to lecture He gives points back for hw Curves heavily at the end of the semester Tests over content not covered
He does not teach very well, but reading the textbook and doing the OWL homework will help you. I bugged him after every test and I learned the material better than other classmates. Talk to him and he will remember to give you a good grade at the end. Show up to class cause he does notice when you don't and he may not pass you with a good grade.
He's a very nice man, but not a good professor. He jokes about making the tests harder than we can handle. There's a difference between challenging students and setting them up for failure. He had to curve my class like 17 points to get the AVERAGE of the class at a 75. His curves are the only thing saving his career.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. He will tell the class that he will not make the test easy for us because he wants us to be stressed out. He refused to answer all my questions, he just laughed in my face and walk away. He treats all students like they are idiots and said very inappropriate things in the middle of class. Do NOT take.
Steer clean if you care about your gpa.
He assigns a lot of homework assignments to do over a couple of weeks before exams. Exams do not correlate with homework assignments at all. Just doing homework and studying in class notes will not get you even a ok grade. His lectures are copied and pasted from the book and still has errors in them, and he doesnt explain the material well at all.
Hes a terrible professor, he doesnt explain the material well at all. He makes terrible jokes about making the exams hard while the class average has not been over a 65 for any of them. Assigns lots of homework, that doesnt prepare you for the exams. You have to teach yourself everything and he has to curve everything to get up to a 75 class avg
Honesty I was told his class is super hard to pass. This is true to an extent as the class average was 54%. I honestly think the best way to pass is by reading and practicing the textbook questions. Also, don't spend too much time on the assignments as they aren't closely related to tests and quizzes.
VERY difficult class. Professor teaches directly from slides and gives hardly any examples. You will have to learn from the textbook and massive amounts of homework which you have to pay for. He does not expect you to pass any of his tests and jokes about your grades when you ask him about them. Only way to pass is to stay ahead of class avg.
The power points during his lectures does not help in any way to emphasize what specific items may be on the tests. The Sapling website we pay for and complete our assignments on is very underwhelming compared to the tests, and overall he expects you to take this course as if you are having Chemistry as your major. His jokes don't hit either sadly.
Fast class paced, you gotta pay attention in class and understand the material to do iclicker questions. Impossible to get an A. (I worked super hard and barely got a B). Although he made jokes (constantly), his lecture is dry and hard to focus. Homework or sample problems do not prepare you for his test.
Professor Aronson's class is hard but is possible to achieve a good grade. While many expected an easy A and did little to nothing but complain to achieve, prof makes you work for the grade you want and hands down, this was easily the hardest class I've taken so far. Make sure to study hard and know the material at hand.
Aronson is, by far, the absolute worst professor I've ever had. He aims the test averages to be around a 55% without a curve. Inconsiderate of the students time and money. Thinks that his "jokes" make up for his dog water lectures. Makes you pay for the homework (which usually doesn't correspond with the exams). If you can, steer clear.
Dr. Aronson liked to joke about how difficult he planned to make the exams, during lectures he would read his slides and answer questions if students had them. His Exams have very few similarities to the 10-15 homework assignments he would assign. Pretty much pick a different professor and if you can't get another professor drop the class.
There are not enough words to describe my rage. Take the advice of others, drop the class or find a new professor, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE UNLESS YOU HATE YOURSELF. Aronson is a decent guy, but easily the worst professor I've had. I'm embarrassed that he is the face of general chemistry at Texas A&M.
You genuinely learn the most out of the assigned Sapling homework. And even then, when test time comes, every question is more based on Aronson's own lectures; lectures that are filled with either rushed/pressured content or filler jokes. It's not entertaining when your eligibility as an engineering student is on the line. Seek another professor.
He is a terrible teacher and does not prepare you for exams. Topics and questions asked in class are way easier than hws and hws do not help with exams. My class' avg was 55, he gave us a 20 pt curve so that the whole class would pass and to make himself look better. Exams and finals are worth around 70% of the class, so one bad grade and its over
If you hate yourself, but wanna laugh, take this course.
his quizzes are the hardest, and they have nothing to do with the homework. So much homework you don't have time to do any studying. Carl is really nice and does extend homework if a few people ask, so that's good. However, his grading criteria is unclear, since his curve changes retroactively.
Simply don't take him. He's undoubtedly the worst professor I've ever had in my entire life. Tests are ridiculously hard, homework is extremely tedious and the system he uses takes away points that you rightfully earned because you got another question wrong. Take any other opportunity to take chem except with this person.
The course is really hard and Aronson makes it even harder. lectures are just him reading a PowerPoint and his exams are impossible.
Has to be one of the worst teachers I have ever met in the 18 years of my existence I can't believe that someone this bad at their job is still allowed to continue to at a college where the whole next generation is going to be learning essential skills. Professors like this are the reason that I am ashamed to call myself an engineering major.
JUST BAD, ABSOLUTE DOGWATER TEACHER, DUDE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S TEACHING.
He's a nice guy
He's a nice guy and sometimes fun to talk too
I honestly cant believe he is a teacher. His PowerPoint lectures do not help on the quizzes not test because the class average is a failing grade. He doesnt seem to be funny in any matter and doesnt work out promises. His homework is horrible just like his jokes.
A lot of people hate him due to the amount of homework that he gives and the difficulty of the tests. I think that as long as you do the homework and study for the tests you will do good because there is a curve based off the class average. He has the most personality out of all my professors.
hands down the professor with the most personality and forsure cares about the wellbeing of his students, adjusting due dates around other class' assignments
Professor Aronson is a good professor. His class covers a lot of information, so you will need to spend time studying outside class. His tests a multiple choice and covers many topics. I studied the textbook a lot and this has helped me out. As long as you make around a high C on his tests, his curves will carry your grade. He drops one test grade.
Nice dude, likes to eat with kids which is kinda weird.
Worst professor I have ever had, when he gives lectures he makes condescending jokes that don't hit and talks as if everyone knows anything when its a new topic. Way too much ALEKS HW and the worst part is that the HW is almost always nothing like the exams. There is also so many exams. Every test average is always failing but he gives big curves.
First off, very nice human being. That doesn't make up for the instruction. You won't be learning chemistry in this course. Do not take his class if you don't know chemistry, you're going to get lost. There is an insane amount of homework, he tells jokes the entire lecture time, and expects students to already know chemistry.
Aronson is literally the worst professor in this entire school. He gives copious amounts of homework and is a terrible lecturer. His tests are unnecessarily, extremely hard and he does not care about his students at all. He finds it funny that students fail. DO NOT TAKE THIS DEMON.
Way too much homework. Learn very little in the lectures, good person though. Your only hope to get a good grade is by doing the insane amount of homework not because it's worth a lot but because it's the only way to learn the material. Basically self-taught.
Take any other professor if u have the chance stay away from this class
Carl will make jokes and then only he laughs. He does not respond back to emails and if you do find him outside of class, he is eating with his students in the cafe which is kinda weird. His lectures, classwork, and homework do not compare to the tests he gives. However, he does curve and gives you opportunity to raise your grade slightly.
90% of the time his lectures are not helpful. The homework program is more beneficial, but it takes hours. Its practically a self taught class. The only reason most pass is because of the curves.
This week professor Aronson assigned 237 homework questions to complete , covering 79 unique types of problems. And that is assuming you get every question right on the first try, because his homework website removes points for a question you got right every time you get a question wrong. Any of these 79 topics could appear on the test. Despicable.
Awful lecturer. Will read off PowerPoint slides for an hour and a half straight, often covering 120+ slides per lecture. I had to teach myself 100% of the information. He fails to convey the theory of what he is teaching, I learned absolutely nothing in his lectures. He teaches like you already know the material, but is just giving a refresher.
The homework is incredibly annoying and tedious, but is the most helpful tool available. Aronson curves everything to make the average of the class an 80. So if you want an A in this class, DO THE HOMEWORK. Its the only thing that made me stay above average and get an A.
The worst teacher I've ever had. Homework is incredibly annoying (makes you do extra questions for getting one wrong). Exams are impossible and you will fail, but he curves the class. Wretched instructor. Woe betide those who dare enter the fiery pit of darkness, where thy soul will be consumed by ALEKS. You will never see the light of day in class
Aronson is a good guy and one of the few professors with a personality. However, the workload for this course was ridiculous. CHEM 107: Daily homework: 5 to 26 hours/week You will fail his tests, heavy curve Accept your fate Biggest advice to those who can't skip this class: Read the TEXTBOOK and watch videos for EVERYTHING ahead of lectures! GL
Lectures, Hw, and text book do not help for the tests. The test were completely different from lectures and homework. The HW is terrible as well due to the fact that it will take up most of your time leaving no time for other classes and even less time to study for test. Avoid at all costs
Professor Aronson is a great person and has an uplifting, funny personality. However, the course workload was unnecessarily heavy with over 50 ALEKS topics per week. Be ready to study on your own for a lot of time. He curves his exams, which is extremely helpful. If you put in the work you can get an A, but don't forget about your other classses.
Lots of homework. You will literally be stuck doing ALEKS. Hes lectures are useless because he just reads of the PowerPoint slides. The tests are nothing like the homework and the material doesnt seem to be covered by the textbook.
Pick Nair if you are actually good at chem and can test in person and do some homework with no curves. Pick Aronson if you want to work every single day of the semester but everything is curved and your homework is always 100% if you do it and a lot I mean a lot of extra credit. He sucks when it comes to work but in the end, A's to everyone.
Was a great person and has a funny personality. However, the course workload was unnecessarily heavy on homework, but his test are not like his homework. Be ready to study on your own for a lot of time. He curves his exams, by so much that his average is a passing grade. So if you stay within the average of the class you can pass.
Hes just horrible his lectures are usless but he loves iclicker the homeworks and keys for everything all have a bunch of mistakes
He expects you to already know the information in class and hardly teaches it. The test questions have little to do with what he tries to teach you in class. If this doesn't mean much to you, I also have him in calculus and the average test grades in both classes have been below a 64.
Lectures don't do much to teach you, he just reads off a power-point. Attendance will be checked through Iclicker which is also a grade. If you have him honestly just look through the power point he posts on canvas and the homework then note things down to watch videos online of. Few hundred busywork homework problems due every few weeks.
Gives a lot of homework and tests are hard but he's a super cool guy. Always responds to my emails quickly. I have a 97 in the class so I can't really give him anything other than 5 stars.
This professor will teach you that life is sometimes about failure. The class was always failing and the people around me looked more confused than a fart in a fan factory. I took math and chemistry with this man, run away at all costs and take the other professors. If you have this man, good luck and study hard, you got this!
Probably one of the best professors in the world! Everything he teaches in class is instantly absorbed into my memory banks and I can recite basically everything learned at 200 wpm. The classes involve surfing google for random pictures that have no relation to the subject at hand, but that just helps improve my memorization skills!
He gives out a lot of homework that doesn't always correspond to the test. Reading the textbook will help but still won't cover everything on the test. I only recommend this class if you have taken AP chem, but he does curve the class average to a B.
Absolutely horrible, don't expect to learn anything from attending his lectures BUT he will ask 5-10 questions per lecture and count them for grades. He will read off PowerPoints and when asked how a question is done, he'll say wait until we find it in the slides. Amazing personality, he's just not fit to be a teacher.
PLEASE NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME! During class, the lectures that he has may be useful, but it will forever be a mystery. Why do you ask? Because he spends 40 seconds on each slide. I'm not exaggerating, a 50-minute lecture will have him going through 70 slides. You won't learn anything in class and need to learn on your own.
this class was hard to follow and not easy to understand the content that was being taught. I wish i had been able to spend some time on the actual equation process instead of having random tangents that had nothing to do with the topic being taught.
Dr Aronson cannot teach, I showed up knowing I was going to struggle with Chem because I hadn't taken it since sophomore year of high school and he did not help. He lectures every class with iClicker that goes towards your grade, tests every two or so weeks, gives WAY too much hw (500+ problems), you are teaching yourself end of story.
(I actually had Professor Aronson for Calc 1) People give Aronson too much flack - he's not the best lecturer, but his HW is super easy and really helps you learn the subject. He also curves the grade a lot and gives students two answer submissions for exams. He also should stop using iClicker. Stop blaming him for your lack of effort.
He's a very nice guy, his powerpoints just give little to no information that helps on the homework or tests. Loads of homework and tests take forever
he barely teaches, barely provides adequate time to comprehend material, nor does he assist in the comprehension of material needed for assignments and assessments.
I don't care what anybody tells you...DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. Yes, he curves but more than likely its not enough to get the grade you want. WAY too much homework. No time to study for tests. Numerous amounts of students said that they had to guess on 5 to 10 problems and he absolutely does not care. Save yourself and your GPA by not taking him ever.
Trying to follow along in class is impossible. All of your time will be taken up from endless homework. Many multiple choice tests that are pretty much just a test of how lucky you are. The way people pass is via the insane curve he puts on them based on the class avg. Nice guy tho and willing to help and convers with students.
The textbook and lectures are a formality, you have to sift through a ton of homework to get the info for quizzes, and that will be the only way to get half the material for the test. Nice guy, but not a great professor. The only reason the class is even remotely passable is because of the insanely high curve. Take another prof or do over summer!
A good professor for an OCHEM class Lectures covers the topics weekly Homework covers what u need & a lot of those questions are on the test/quiz & makes getting a passing grade easy if u write them down Multiple attempt on HW & exam questions U get cheat sheets on all exams Is caring/funny & will help if asked OCHEM is hard no matter who u take
I had him last semester and failed with a D, took with prof. Nair this semester and will end with an A and actually understand material. He doesn't work through practice problems, has 218 slides per chapter, tests every 2 weeks, horrific lecturer (basically reads the textbook), teaches non-required subjects for class.
Yes. This CHEM 107 w aronson sucks. It is super hard and makes you rethink your life choices. But it is also entirely up to you if you succeed w him. If you put in the work and use the resources he gives you for stuff its a survivable class. Plus the curves in his class are huge so theres a lot of room to pass and do well. He's a good guy.
Bad professor
lost life meaning and hope in 106 questions of aktiv in this week
He wastes so much time in class on meaningful things. His iClickers have no correlation to the topic being testes on, not to mention the fact that it is completely nonsensical to ask students questions on a topic they have just been taught!
Very hard professor and doesn't lecture on the material that will be covered on the exams which are very frequent. Be prepared to read the textbook alot and spend alot of time studying. Take Nair if possible.
Aronson cannot teach to save his life. He skims through the lecture slides and expect us to already know the stuff. He goes through 100 slides a day. He spends 30 seconds on each slide and does not explain thoroughly in detail. He assigns 300 homework questions and it does not help us on exams. Please take Nair.
The guy was funny but not a single thing that was in his lectures came up on the test, nor the 300 question assignments due every week. There is no proper way to study for his exams and you just have to hope you get a 40 or 50 on all the exams because the only thing that allows people to pass his class is the curve on all of the test. Worst Prof.
Be ready to sit through his nonstop exceptionally horrible lectures. You will spend hours on end studying every week. The tests are extremely difficult but luckily the curve he gives is huge. Make sure to get comfortable quick because it is very fast paced. Do ALL the recitations and go to all of the tutoring sessions to get extra credit!!!
If you can, avoid taking him. His lectures are almost never helpful on the test and you are forced to learn exam material on your own. Luckily there are curves on exams and extra credit opportunities like study sessions and recitations, where the recitations are even helpful on the first five exams. None of that really helps during finals though.
Only take his class if you are a really good test taker. The tests are all luck based, you may get a lot of easy questions or the hardest questions possible however usually it balances out. Nice Professor, the recitations are questions straight out of the test, use them to study and understand how to do them. prepare to cry after your first test.
I'm going to be clear. His class is very entertaining to go to... but that's the only good thing. The homework is super long and unclear, The test are extremally difficult with every question being a trick question, and the lectures are taught in the most awful way possible there is little point to pay attention in the class.
Aronson's low rating is unjustified. He is a poor lecturer so expect lots of self-study but he is extremely nice. He gives huge curves so do your hw and read the textbook and you will be fine. Also, go over your tests with him. He gives free points like candy which can boost your grade by almost a whole letter.
Overall Professor Aronson was a bad lecturer. However, he is almost always on campus for the entire day if he has a class that day. Outside of lectures, he is very open to helping out on something if you are confused. Make sure to do the recitations as they are very helpful on the exam. The first exam is almost al memorization so be ready for that.
Aronson is overhated by salty engineers. The course is rough but that's OChem. The only grades are quizzes and homework, both of which have multiple attempts per question. Some outside learning may be required at times but Aronson will usually help you as well. ACTIVE is annoying at times but it could be worse.
He definitely is not the a good lecturer, but you will need to go because he does iclicker every class. You will definitely learn mostly on your own, go to the offered tutoring sessions if possible. He is very helpful outside of class, if you email him a question he will typically answer within the day with steps and reasoning. Big curves on tests.
Professor Aronson has a great personality and is fun to talk to but, he does not teach well, and the test are nothing like the homework assignments.
You will spend all of your semester attempting to complete his hw's. The tests, Goodluck try praying beforehand. His lectures are basically talking abt Disney (for some reason). If you want the slightest chance of passing, you'll need to learn the textbook front and back. This course left me and basically everybody scarred. Switch to the other prof
Try to avoid him. The tests are computer, webcam on, multiple choice, 35 ish questions. The tests are RNG from a q-bank, you either get lucky or not with the questions. I unfortunately didn't, but I had friends that literally had just 35 conceptual questions which is easy. The class is curved-based, so if you want an A or a B, stay above the curve
fat and easy to kite
What is wrong with this guy man?
Bro never used to teach, just came to class to yap and tell jokes. He would then proceed to give the hardest homeworks and tests known to mankind, on top of that youd get like 5 tests and a final in one semester. He's super weird with the grading too and barely gives extra credit. Don't take this guy.
AVOID PLEASE He sucks
He makes the class unnecessarily hard and assigns tests that are nothing like the test reviews. I will recommend to avoid this teacher at all cost.
Genuinely don't know what this guys problem is
I wouldn't say the other ratings are wrong but not entirely true either. He tries to keep everyone engaged in lectures to make sure everyone understands it (I honestly did not understand half of it). Still he will answer any questions you have before or after class. He gives out a lot of extra credits and get ready for iclickers pop quizes.
He is a pretty difficult professor, but the real world is also difficult! If you were expecting to take a bunch of easy classes and passing, then don't come to college. He will make you study a lot but it's all worth it in the end as it makes you more disciplined and prepared for the real world.
he said the exam would be on September 12th because that would be, quote, "the 2nd worst day ever for us". Lectures are really just screenshots of the textbook figures with each slide showing up 20 seconds and then BAM onto the next one. I am literally not joking when I say that we would go through 150 slides in a single lecture..
This guy is by far and beyond the worst professor I have ever had. He CANNOT teach to save his life. He has iclickers worth 8% of the grade. Be ready to either teach yourself, or... wait there is no other option. If you do not teach yourself you will fail the class. USE THE RECITATIONS to study for the test.
He is poopoo
Test averages are in the 50s, homework with 100+ problems doesn't help prepare for tests, and lectures are confusing(speedy) and goes off-track in the chemistry world a lot. Tests include 10-15 problems not covered in class, textbook, homework, yet he expects you to know them. You're better off watching YouTube. Be prepared to fight for a C.
I hope you started studying polyatomic ions a semester before class started because 360 homework problems are due before the first test. Recitations are straight up in the test question pool. Good luck on the tests the questions are designed to trick you to the point where Aronson cant even put the right answers on the test, at least 2 on each test
Funny and chill guy, but not the best professor. Long lectures, and homework isn't too bad after the first 3 weeks (though half of it feels irrelevant). Recitations are helpful but have errors (talk to him to fix). YouTube is a lifesaver. Would've gotten a B if I'd known earlier. Extra credit maxes out at 1.11%. Teach yourself. Passing is doable.
Not as bad as people say. The class is hard, its a weed out class. The trick is his recitation bonuses, do every single one. They are the same questions on the test. Lots of memorization. No curves on tests, averages a 60, but 15ish points curve on your final grade. He will go over tests if you ask and even give points back if you are right.
By far the worst professor I've ever taken. He can't not teach. That's all there is to it, he's a terrible lecturer and his exams are incredibly difficult compared to homework. Homework and extra credit is lengthy and time consuming but not bad at all very manageable. I've taken this class with him twice, worst professor ever. 67 1st sem. 69 2nd se
HORRIBLE lecturer, do not know what his problem is. take CHEM107 online, I heard the other teacher is not very good either. grades on a curve because every test after the first one's average is always 50/60, gives extra credit through recitations but you really have to work to do well in this class. Just not worth it if never taken chemistry before
Great professor overall! The class is difficult but you will be fine if you pay attention in lectures and do the homework and bonus assignments.
you're cooked if you got him, study the recitations and know the textbook
Aronson's class is challenging, but use Unstuck ai and the textbook to supplement the lectures. Go to office hours - he's helpful one-on-one. Attend recitations, do the homework, and aim for the curve to do well.
100% a weed out class. Highly recommend reading the textbook, understand the homework, and do the recitations as they are similar to the test, and are extra credit. He is very approachable and will help you understand concepts if you go to office hours. Start on notes and homework weeks ahead of the test. Stay ahead of work and above the curve.
Aronson isnt as terrible as everyone makes him out to be, he is a bad lecturer but great 1 on 1. Most people do bad because they refuse to study. the Tests are very difficult and a majority of your grade but if you do the recitations you will be fine because its the same questions as the test
I think this class is the definition of a weed-out class, however, I do not say that in a bad way. To ace quizzes you will need to learn to build study habits and study in groups, which is super useful in the long term. His lectures are alright, but he tries to make real-world connections and build rapport. Overall, the hate is not deserved.
He is awful at teaching and reads off the slides. Questions will lead to pointing at the slides and circling around the question, confusing you even more. He curves the test averages to 70 and then the final class average to 80. Even if you are on the edge of a letter grade (by less than 0.15), he will not care or give an extra assignment to help.
Aronson's tests were all luck based. Some students got easier questions than others. Aronson also has no idea how to teach. He instead likes to make jokes for half of the class. He only reads off of the slides. Take Nair instead.
The prefered professor depends on your style. Both chem classes are weed-out classes and are difficult. Aronson has a decent curve based on the amount of people who do the iClicker correctly, the amount of people whove done the recitations and homework. Aronson has more tests than Nair, but with a curve. Nair is vise versa.
Dr. Aronson has NO idea how to teach. He just reads off of the slides. Absolute joke of a professor. His tests are also a complete joke. Genuinely don't understand how he is still a professor. Take other professor.
If you take this class then you are asking to fail. He spends half of the time making weird jokes or talking about eating. Prepare to stay an extra semester and most likely consider switching majors/dropping out. Take chem 119.
Terrible professor, one of the worst, believe me. Doesn't know how to teach, doesn't know how to explain, total disaster. The lectures? A complete mess. Nobody knows what's going on. And the tests? So unfair, you wouldn't believe it. Very bad for learning. Should not be teaching, should not be anywhere near a classroom. Total embarrassment!
All of the reviews that say he isn't that bad are lying. Aronson made me want to drop out. Worst professor of all time.
Would not recommend Professor Aronson. They know the material but can't explain it clearly. Lectures are disorganized and confusing. Tests are extremely hard and cover barely mentioned topics. Felt set up to fail. Left the class more confused than when I started.
Rude. The only reason you should take this guys class is because he allows for you to use programmable calculators. If you want to learn you have to read the textbook. Have no idea what this guy's problem is.
Business… switch to business….
Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. I believe his class is meant to really get those youngins to fail. I found it pretty simple, made a 98.8%. Just make sure to skip recitations, and hope for the best on your tests. Would take again, its simple chemistry.
He does not ca
He gives many test which is in total worth 75% of your grade. His lecture isn't really lecture in material or problems to help on exams. The exams usually have no relation to other coursework given. The questions on exams are not taught how to answer past a certain chapter. He curves but still not that much help since everyone q drops.
TESTS WILL BE TORTURE. Getting an A is "possible" if you want to dedicate a good 20+ hrs to chem each week. CURVE CARRIES SO MUCH. A lot of HW in the beginning of the sem. Dude covers random topics other profs don't cover. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS PLEASE. HE WILL GIVE BACK POINTS. I once got 10 extra points, that a whole letter grade. Take other prof
Carl Aronson is a terrible teacher who turns every class into a confusing mess. His tests are absurdly difficult, bearing little resemblance to what he teaches, and his constant weird jokes make lectures more awkward than engaging. Learning from him feels like an uphill battle you didn't sign up for.
This professor does NOT get enough hate. It is absurd that he is able to teach anywhere. His tests had me rethinking my life choices. You would be better off taking his tests with your eyes closed than actually trying. Absolute disgrace to all of chemistry.
His lectures mainly involve reading slides posted on Canvas. Exams are manageable if the material is understood; ActivHomework and Canvas recitations cover everything. Recitations are essentially free points. The course will be hard if you don't study, but he is a mid professor.Get ready to spend 10+ hours outside class. His curves carry your grade.
This guy does not care about you or your classmates. We now have a new professor and I genuinely could not be happier. DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO GET DR. NAIR. If he comes back next semester, get ready to never want to do chem again. You will have to learn all on your own because he'd rather joke about Texas A&M football than teach you chem. DONT.
Just dont.
Aronson was my professor for a few weeks until he left due to medical reasons. I would have been lucky to scrape by with a C if he remained my professor the whole time. His lectures are sporadic and useless, he assigns ABSURD amounts of homework (almost 300 problems due on test day), and his tests are ambiguous. Take Nair for the sake of your GPA.
I only had Aronson up until the first test before he left for medical reasons, and although I made a 92 on the test, the average was a 65. He is a genuinely horrible professor and it's a serious embarrassment for A&M to have him as a professor. The lectures have 10% useful content, and he assigned 500+ lengthy homework questions for the first test.
This is the kind of professor that makes you lose faith in higher education and wonder why you would ever want to waste 4 years of your life attempting to learn from a system that despises you.
bro lowkenuinely rage quitted mid sem
10/10. loved it when he was talm bout how chopped Avogadro was for half the class time and gave us 300 WebAssign questions to solve.
He was always really negative never gave great feedback and put down students for asking questions. His canvas was messy and unorganized. The random problems in canvas and homework never corelated to the exam. The exams were question banks so no matter how much you've studied you could not be prepared for the random questions on the exam.
The Homework does not at all correlate to the exams at all and, 100 problems questions sets for it to not be on the exam? .He cannot teach for his life, makes us memorize random things, and makes unfunny jokes which eat up class time. Also he made us memorize the ENTIRE period table which had everyone stressing. Do whatever you can avoid him!!
I didn't take Chem my first semester and was going to take it my second but I woke up late to register for Nair and so when I saw I was going to be in hell second semester based on trauma stories I decided to switch to Econ.
judgement day will not be easy for carl aronson and i'm not even exaggerating
100+ homework questions for each chapter, with only about 3 weeks to do. It sounds like a lot for time, but you had 3 due at the same time in between tests. He curves test grade a lot. That will help keep your grade up, but still do not take. It is not worth the stress and tears.
You could learn more while watching paint dry while also saving your GPA
This class is hard but others are over exaggerating. He is a nice professor that expects effort that's why its hard. Lots of homework but it prepares you for the test. If you are prepared to study a lot than an A is very possible. He gives generous amounts of curves and extra credit. If you score above the curve average you will do extremely well.
