This man really disapointed me by giving notes that had absoutely no relevance to the tests or the reading. His ramblings in class consist of nothing more than his experiences while liveing in China, and his lack of ability to clarify his overheads.

If you absolutely need a sociology credit, FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR. His lectures are extremely boring and practically no help. There is no point in going to class, because you are much better off teaching yourself the material. Lots of required reading for each test, but if you read and understand it you will make a B on the tests.

I would not reccomend this class for anyone. His lectures are very long, scattered, and don't have anything to do with the reading in the books for the class. Even reading every page of the reading and the PowerPoints (which he posts online) making a C is still a struggle. Attendance isn't "mandatory" but there are pop quizzes every now and then

Backman really isn't hard at all if you just do what you're supposed to. Read the book and highlight the big pictures. About 25% of the exams are book questions, 25% from old tests, and the rest are straight from his powerpoints. I've gotten a 103, 98, and 102 on his tests so far, and I've waited until the night before to start studying.

Backman is an interesting guy. His class is tough for a sociology course, but it could be interesting. He gives quizzes and homework but it all counts for extra credit, so that is super helpful. He assigns A LOT of reading and you have to read it, or you will do poorly on the exams. If you read and go to class you should be fine to make an A.

Prof. Backman is an odd guy. He is a fairly good teacher and his class isn't tough if you read the assigned material before tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but he adds points to test grades based on it. All of his lectures are online and the homework assignments are quick and easy.

Backman's class should be fine as long as you read all ththe assigned readings and study the powerpoints for the exams. Gives extra credit on tests by subtracting denominator by 5 if 90% of class shows up and sometimes makes the pop quizzes extra credit depending on attendance. Attendance not mandatory; overall, read the stuff and you'll make an A.

Oh Dr. B, he is a character. He is super quirky, but it helps because when you're sitting there struggling to remember something on test day, the little dance he did while talking about that topic will pop in your head and you'll remember. One of his pet peeves is skipping/ leaving early so SHOW UP. He'll notice if you do or don't.

Hardest class I have taken at Auburn. The material is extensive and it's hard to understand what he is looking for in the 100+ pages of reading assigned per exam, as his lectures and reading material do not work together. I've asked for help and didn't get much out of him. Lectures are long and he bounces around a lot. Be ready to read.

Getting a B would be a miracle just because the tests are really hard & have a lot of trick questions. Some tests are based on confusing videos and questions are very specific. He mumbles in lectures with no microphone so no one knows what he is saying. Have to read about 100 pages in textbook on top of power points per test. Wouldn't recommend.

Dr. B is an interesting person. His class is not the most interesting, but if you take notes and do the reading (usually abt 125 pgs per test) you will do fine. I made notecards on all the book and lecture terms that were bold/underlined and read the days leading up to the test and made a high A. Scales tests based on total class attendance.
