Carl was awesome and has his PowerPoint slides down so well that there was NO textbook. He is really funny and makes the class as easy as possible.
DO NOT TAKE HIS HMD320 (ONLINE COURSE). It's an INSANE amount of work. On a weekly basis you are assigned: chapter reading PLUS 3 articles to read, a 500 word essay, a 200 word article summary, & a quiz on the chapter. I REPEAT: WEEKLY BASIS. He also grades your papers very critically & isn't afraid to dock 50% of your points. You've been warned.
Braulich rules! Super easy to do well in the class. Weekly open note quizzes and 500 word essays. Just follow his directions and you'll be fine. He makes everything super interesting and the guest speakers are great too.
Really easy class. Mandatory attendance that is checked by clickers. one 500 word essay and quiz every week. Guest speakers every once in a while. Carl is a great teacher.
Very essay class! Three things are the most important of this class: clicker point, quiz, and essay. 500 words of essay every week but as long as you follow his method you will always get full point from it.
Great professor, very knowledgeable and experienced in the industry. If you want to learn you will learn. Majority of points are in class clicker points and weekly quizzes and essays (500 words). If you have an A there is no final!
Carl is by far the most straight forward and realistic person to talk about the hospitality industry. Very knowledgeable, humorous, yet strict. Keep up with all the weekly assignments and attend class and this class is in the bag. And at all costs: don't take the final.
This is an easy class to pass just do your work and show up. Class is fun and informative.
He is truly awesome. He has such great enthusiasm about Hospitality. He'll make you want to come to class.
Dr. Braunlich is a pretty swell guy. It's true that he grades you on your weekly quizzes and essays but it's very important to show up to class because he gives you iclicker points. Overall, he was awesome and I would like to take him again for another class.
GREAT instructor. Really made transitioning into the hospitality field exciting and fun. One of the best professors I have ever had at UNLV.
Carl is an excellent teacher! He is very understanding and considerate. His class is very amusing and he has an extreme passion for hospitality. Funny, outgoing, laid back professor!
This is a great online upper division elective and is taught almost in the exact same way as his HMD 101 and 407 classes minus the lecture. All you have are weekly readings, a quiz (which you have 3 attempts), and a short online article review. The material is very easy to understand and interesting. Only downside is you must take the final.
Great professor, you'll meet all kinds of industry professionals, just show up and pay attention and you'll ace it.
Carl is a great teacher!! This class is an amazing introduction to the hospitality industry. I enjoyed this class, especially the guest speakers!! Highly recommend!!
Great and helpful professor.
He is definitely the best teacher and gets students prepared for the Hospitality World! Providing networking for the students by bringing in people in the work industry was my favorite part!! BEST TEACHER AWARD FOR SURE!!
Carl is the best. The guest speakers we get in class are always interesting to listen too. Class is easy to pass just do the work that is assigned & go to class.
This class is fun and easy as long as you attend. Guest speaker every week makes class even more interesting. Good class to take with classes that may be hard.
Carl was a great professor and I strongly recommend his course! I was taking HMD 101 as an elective, w/ little interest...After completing his class, I am strongly interested in pursing a career in the hospitality industry. No txtbk required. Powerpoint notes that are used on wkly quizzes. There are also weekly essays & influential guest speakers!
He's awesome! He gets you so passionate and interested in the subject! If you aren't sure about your choice in hospitality then definitely take Carl! not only because is a prereq but because he can help you decide whether or not hospitality is for you!!
Carl was awesome. Do all the work and you'll do fine in the class. If you aren't sure about hospitality he will help you decide if its the right choice for you. The guest speakers are amazing. overall recommend taking his class.
Carl is a great professor. He's very passionate and provides great insight into the hospitality industry. No textbook is required. The quizzes and essays are easy. The guest speakers are great. If you're unsure about being in the hospitality industry or don't know what path to take, Carl can help guide you in the right direction.
Carl is awesome!! This class was a lot of fun to take- the guest speakers were amazing and had a lot to share with us. This class will help you get a more clear idea of what concentration you may want to focus on. If you pay attention in class you'll do just fine and pass with flying colors.

Really enjoyed the class. Lots of guest speakers. Pay attention in class and take good notes and the quizzes will be cake. Essays are cake.
I really liked this class. His teaching was easy to follow and the workload was not too much but not too little either. Although attendance is not mandatory, it pays off to go to class as you get clicker points. He is an amazing teacher though and I loved this class! There is no textbook, however there are article readings and quizzes each week.
Carl was an amazing teacher! He made an introductory class fun and he brings his backround of hospitality into this course well. A great teacher. Honestly. Enjoy this class. Tests are easy if you know how to use his open book policy to your advantage. Be there in class for attendance points. Ask questions you'll get more points. Essays are easy too
Great class and great teacher! Carl is a lot of fun and his lessons are straight forward. There are weekly assignments but they are very manageable. Follow directions and you'll do fine. Plus if you do everything right you don't have to take the final! I fully recommend this class and this professor.
carl was an amazing teacher!!! anyone who plans on joining the hotel college should definetly take him!!
A very easy class. He definitely has a vast wealth of information to pass along to students. If you do the assignments as instructed, you'll have no problems. If you have any problems, he's unwavering, though. So as long as your life is perfect and you can dedicate yourself to his class, you'll learn quite a bit.
There is no textbook! Go to class to get clicker participation points, do the quiz and short essay every week, and you're guaranteed an A! No Final exam if you reach enough points. Great teacher, and very interesting class.
Carl is a great professor. Very passionate about hospitality industry. Essay and Quiz every week but easy. Don't plagiarism. As long as it's your original essay, you will get 100 point. Go to class and enjoy the class. Easy A.
Carl is a very intelligent professor and even if you give minimum effort and show up to class you'll get a solid grade. You'll end up learning some interesting stuff so just take his class because he's pretty chill. Just don't be a moron.
This was a great class. Very informative with interesting and useful information. Carl is fun and consistent
This is a great class. Carl is a wonderful teacher. His class was entertaining and informative with interesting information.
Quiz and 500 word essay every week, and show up to class. Do that to get an A. Easiest class possible and Carl keeps it as real as possible!
Never have I met a teacher with such passion about their subject. Carl is a no nonsense dude with years of industry experience, inside information, and the truest desire to see his students excel. I highly recommend carefully reading all online articles, they are jam packed with info.
I LOVED this class! He was very knowledgeable and brought in so many fantastic great speakers. It was hard not to pass just make sure to do the weekly essays and quizzes. The quizzes challenging simply because they are timed although you have three chances. READ the articles they will make the quiz easier and are usually pretty fascinating.
Carl is a genuinely nice person. Not like any other professor. Very knowledgeable. Gives students incentives to work harder. Guest speakers! Understand the syllabus. Go to class: clicker points. Sign on during the time period to take your quiz&submit your essay. All of the essays&readings are available all the time so be ahead. Do book challenge.
I always think He is the best professor in UNLV. He has lots of knowledge about hospitality industry, and he loves to share his experience to his student. Take his class.
The most awesome teacher I have ever met. His has totally 15 essays and 15 quizs. Work as a group with your friends for your reading assignment, then the quiz will be easy. There are lots of guests speaker, and once you ask a question, you get 5 extra credit. I reached 4050(the score for A) before the 15th week, so I was allowed to skip the final.
Awesome teacher! An experienced guy who have worked at many great places, spend a minute with him and you will learn how much he know by giving you interesting stories and advices. Take his class and your eyes would be open! Greatly recommended!
Carl is extremely knowledgeable about the hospitality industry, and he tries to make the material as interesting as possible. There are a ton of guest speakers, and you learn about several facets of the industry. This class has a pretty light workload. If you finish with an A by the end of the semester, you can skip the final.
Very helpful class. The knowledge from required readings and lunches with guest speakers were really eye-opening. Very fun class, but you have to be very responsible. Do your reading and homework on time and attend class, and you will be a flying eagle!
Carl is one of the most knowledgeable people I have met in the hospitality industry. The class teaches you about the various aspects of the industry, and there are lots of guest speakers. He taught me a lot and I am so glad I took his class. Make sure you go to class, and do the quizzes and tests so you won't have to take the final.
Carl is fantastic. He is really knowledgable about the hospitality industry. There is a weekly quiz and essay but they are very simple. Lots of guest speakers from different areas of the industry which is great. Get an A before the semester ends and you can skip the final. Overall one of my favorite professors at UNLV.
Attendance required because of the clicker points. His class was awesome! I really enjoyed it! I wish he would teach other classes in hospitality. There is a quiz and an essay every week but if you pay attention in class and read the articles you will do well. "Flying Eagle" status here. READ THE SYLLABUS! Or he will say "Bless your heart" lol...
Carl is an amazing professor! His class was interesting and fairly easy. There are a lot of guest speakers as well. To get an A in the class, attend class to receive clicker points, and make sure to do good on the essay and quiz every week. You won't have to take the final if you reach 4050 points!

Carl is a great guy that relates to his students. He truly cares about all of his students, and gives great advice individually. He keeps in touch with his former students. This may seem like an easy class, but I truly learned a lot.
Carl is an amazing professor. He is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to this course. He gives multiple opportunities to network within the field. As long as you do the quizzes and the essay, it's an easy A. Very funny guy as well! :)
I got an A in UNLV. What you need to do is take your clicker to class and do the question in the beginning and the end, you will receive points for attendance. Also every you need to do the reading test (usually 4-5 long passage) and minimum 500 words essay for every week. Not much of workload except for these. He is fun professor too, take him!
If you need some discipline, take this class. It's very easy but helpful class. You get to write one essay and read articles every week. You will get to meet guest speakers almost every other week. Carl is great. You can tell he actually enjoys what he does, which can't be said for many of the professors at UNLV. His class is very entertaining. My friend would tag along with me to avoid attending her class. Overall this class is an easy A if you show up and do the work. Good luck to those taking this class in the future :)
Amazing professor, very knowledgable about the industry. Has great guest speakers and as long as you attend class and do the readings, it's an easy class, the best part is that you don't have a final AS LONG AS you have an A by the end of the semester. Course work is weekly quizzes based on lecture and readings, and 500 word essay each week.
Great professor
Amazing professor
Carl is very knowledgeable and knows a lot of professionals. Weekly essay and weekly quiz online, 15 total of each with 50 points for each class attendance. If you reach 4050 points by last week of semester do not have to take final. Gives in class extra credit for asking questions. Some time pizza luncheons if you reply to emails fast enough.
Carl is an amazing professor. I was his TA and received an A. I also had him for HMD 101 and really enjoyed his course. He makes the course and material enjoyable.
Easy A, Online quiz and essay every week, and it is easy to do it.
Carl is an extremely inspirational professor. Even if the class was slightly more difficult, he would still get a perfect rating from me. He genuinely cares about his students and has so much respect for them. He really wants to see people succeed, and he makes sure students know that he is there to help them.
Carl is a great professor! He really teaches well and is extremely knowledgeable about his field. He knows a surplus of industry professionals. Overall, recommend taking his class. He gives weekly essay and quiz. The class is not too hard, just show up, pay attention, do the weekly reading and you should be fine!
Carl is the best! You will never meet a cooler prof. As long as you bring your clicker to every class and do the weekly quiz and essay (only 500 words) you will be golden! He gives extra credit for participating and asking questions, so make sure you do that! This will be one of the best classes you take.
He's super funny. Just follow instructions and you'll be fine.
seriously an amazing teacher. followed the syllabus and am currently over 104%. gives you the chance to get extra credit. really funny and likes to encourage students to involve themselves more with Las Vegas. Ace the course then you don't take an exam.

This class was by far the easiest. There are 5 reading assignments a week that you take a 25 question quiz on. Show up to class for participation points and there's plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Guest speakers are awesome!
Carl is THE BEST professor at UNLV! Make sure you participate in lecture because you get extra credit!! And if you earn a certain amount of points by the end of the semester, you won't have to take the final and you get an A in the class. Lectures are interesting, lots of guest speakers that are WORTH listening to. Best class I've ever took!
He is the best professor I ever had! He is so helpful!

The best instructor you will ever have, Carl is there for your needs and wants you to succeed. As he said earlier in the class, "I am here working for you, because I am trying to get you your degree." He was serious about class but showed a funny and relaxed side of him as well. It was a true joy to be in his class.

Although he requires reading lots of articles, u dont hav to read them all, use search function and u will easily find the answer. Unless u skip too many times, u can get A without too much hard work.
Great class and would take again
Carl is such a friendly professor, he's helpful and caring. I enjoyed this class not only because of what we learn, but because since it would get so easy in this class, it'd feel like you didn't even need to attend class to understand it. Plus he cancels class a few times, which he will always inform you of. Loved the class!

Really Funny Professor that knows his stuff. Attendance is required in the form of clicker questions each class that make are worth 50 points a week. Achieve Flying Eagle status and you don't have to take the final!
He is very knowledgeable and I loved this classes lectures. However, the homework is done online. If I wanted to take online classes I would have. He is amazing. if you ask questions n class you get 5 extra credit pts. lots of guest speakers. the tests and essays are so easy you can do them in like 20 minutes. hes funny and though attendance is required its a fun class and there is no work other then the quiz and essay at the end of the week.

The course was great and very interactive with plenty of opportunities to earn extra credit with KYS cards. If you don't get an A in this class well then... bless your heart.
The class consists of quizzes every week and essays every week. If you are lazy, you will not pass this class. You actually have to put effort into the work. By the end of the semester, if you have 4,050 points, then you don't have to take the final. Carl is an amazing professor with astounding knowledge. The guess speakers were very intriguing

Honestly, go to class, participate, and you'll pass. His lectures are very rarely boring and he is such a hilarious guy. He also loves unique shoes and even gives extra credit for them!
KYS cards are an easy way to boost your grade. Go to class unless you don't want to earn easy clicker points. Lectures are too bad and the class is always packed with something interesting.
Carl is the kind of professor that I'd love to take out for a beer. He's great at what he does and a gem in the hospitality industry. Pay attention and do your work and you'll pass easy, but avoid the final at all costs. Carl needs to teach all my classes!
READ THE SYLLABUS! Once a certain points are reached you are excused from the final and pass with an A. Take all extra credit opportunities, and do good on the quizzes. You do have a weekly essay but just follow the format and you will get 100.
I had to take this class for my hospitality major. He was an alright teacher, but very easy grading. You have to write a 500 word essay every week and if you go to class and take notes and read the articles he posts, you can bs it and get an A. Take advantage of extra credit and if you get enough points, you can skip the final and pass with an A.
there are weekly essays but only 500 words and not hard to do, go to class you earn points by iclicker, great guest speakers, free food if you go to guest speaker lunch before class, if you get enough points before the finals you don't have to take it. This class was super easy and carl is great

the class is very interesting, and the grade is esay to be high If you follow what professor says
Carl is a great Professor. He has a wealth of knowledge of the Hotel, Restaurant and Casino business. Show up to class! Bring your clicker. Answer questions! Take basic notes on the power points he posts online. Read the weekly articles. Write your essay with the assigned format. Take the quiz. Not an easy grader, not hard. Do your work.
Carl is amazing, if you need to take this class then get him as your teacher. You dont need a book but you MUST HAVE A clicker. he posts the power points online and the readings are online. you do have to write a 500 word essay and take a quiz each week but that is easy to do. Reach 4050 points & you dont have to take the final! just do the work
This professor was one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. I'm graduating this semester and I only took the course for an elective credit, but had I taken this course earlier in my college career I would have changed my major. He's an awesome guy and always super helpful! I'd recommend this class for anyone!
Carl is the best teacher that I have had a UNLV so far. His class is easy and I learned a lot. There is one quiz and one essay due each week, if you get 4050 points at the end of the semester then you don't have to take the final. His lectures are interesting and he brings in a lot of guest speakers. I wish he taught more classes!
Love Carl, He is the best teacher at UNLV I have had.
Carl is a great professor and chooses excellent guest speakers. Don't stress over the weekly essays and quizzes. Just do good on them and you'll be fine.
Go to class and take the quizzes and and do the essay every week and you will get an A
This class was great! Carl is very knowledgable in hotel management and is realistic of what to expect in the real world. Show up to every class! It's that simple! Weekly quiz and short essay. Those are easy if you show up and print the lecture slides. Hard not to pass.
He is by far my favorite professor. Carl makes the class fun and interesting, therefore you actually want to go to class. Class is mandatory and all you have to bring is your Iclicker to get the points. You have a weekly 25 question test and a 500 word essay on things you learned that week. Carl is hilarious and I would take the class again.
Carl was a great professor, and made it fun to learn. His understanding of the hospitality industry is reinforced by his years of experience. Attendance is not taken, but you will not pass if you do not attend. 300 points are given weekly, and If you earn 4050 points by the end, you are exempt from taking the final. I would definitely take again!
To receive A in this class all you need is to earn 4050 points which all come from weekly assignment100 and quiz 100 2times/week attendance50 pts on each, each week you are able to miss 80 points to still keep yourself on track. Do the quiz as a small study group so you are able to help each other to earn a good score.
Class is cake and very straight forward. Grading is easy you basically just have to do the work. Complete the work each week and pass the test youll have no worries. Get 4050 by end of semester you won't have to take the final and automatically receive an A
Took it to see how the hospitality major would be like. Didn't like it so stayed in business. He is a cool teacher though. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't show up for your clicker points, you're pretty much screwed. Easy tests and essays due every Saturday. He's pretty funny too. Get flying eagle status to receive an automatic A.
The class is only as hard as you make it. There are weekly quizzes and essays you must do but they are pretty simple. As long as you take the class seriously it'll be a fun and interesting class. I would defiantly recommend this professor.
Carl is an excellent professor at UNLV. If you are a dedicated student and focus on your work, this class will be a breeze for you, and will not be a worry throughout your semester. Do your essays, take your quizzes, and definitely come to class - because each class period is worth 50 points. You will learn from this class.
Weekly quiz and essay- not hard. Also one third of grade from attendance/participation. Don't cheat. He warns people every semester, and some knucklehead will still do it and fail the course. Carl is personable and funny in lecture, and brings in fantastic guest speakers from the industry on a regular basis. No textbook, but iclicker 2 required
Super awesome teacher, really funny people, and easy A.
There are tests & quizzes each week but they're easy if you have read the readings and paid attention to the notes in class. He's a really cool professor and tells lots of stories, lots of guest speakers too. NO TALKING! If you're talking while he's talking you'll have to leave and you'll lose points for that day. Awesome teacher, awesome class.
Online quiz and essay due every week, but they are extremely easy. All online but you have to attend class for clicker points. If you maintain an A you don't have to take the final?
The easiest class ever. Just do your homework and earn 4050 points until the last week.
Great professor! Has guest speakers and you actually enjoy listening to them. There are quizzes and 500 word essays due every week but its easy. Must attend class for clicker points. If you do your work you will pass and won't need to take the final. I took the final and it sucked!
Brilliant Professor, Great Character, considerate, Attendance mandatory to get points, weekly quiz based on weekly lecture and handouts, Essay writing each week. Just be honest and accumulate 4050 points... you'll be exempt from the finals . Class is interesting and enjoyable.
Great professor, easy class, just show up and an essay a week. Nothing challenging. Makes lectures interesting
He was an easy teacher very clear I enjoyed going to every class and every guest speaker we had. You have to know the syllabus to ace the class!
He is awesomeeeee Take his class, will learn lots of things and enjoy at the same time
First off, DO NOT CHEAT! Especially on the clicker points. You think you are smooth, but you will get caught and get kicked out. Next off, show up to class. Listen. Do the essay and test. He wants you to excel. Awesome guest speakers! Oh ya, DON'T CHEAT!
Carl is absolutely a great professor, explains the material well and everything is done online. Make sure to show up to class as those are free points to earn. Has a quiz and essay each week but very easy if you read the material.
Hands down the best teacher at UNLV. He makes his lectures fun & enjoyable. You do have an essay & a quiz every single week but the essay is only 500 words. The quizzes you can do with friends & you have 3 attempts. He also gives out extra credit if you ask questions. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT IN HIS CLASS. YOU WILL GET CAUGHT.
Carl is super knowledgable in his field. I enjoyed attending all his classes. Although it was a large auditorium class, he still had everyone participate through clickers. He brought in many cool guest speakers. Definitely one of my favorite teachers in the hotel college.
Carl knows about hospitality. If you do all your quizzes, essays, and clicker participation, you will pass his class. He brings many speakers with different backgrounds in hospitality. A great instructor I enjoyed being in Carl class and highly recommend him for HMD 101.
Carl is one of my favorite teachers! His class is NOT hard. As long as you come to class, do your homework and follow the syllabus, then you will pass with flying colors and be exempt from the final exam! You have a quiz and an essay every week, but they're not hard at all. Very interesting class! Multiple guest speakers from the industry visit.
I loved Carl's class. I took it as an elective and was pleasantly surprised. I am not a Hospitality major and didn't think I'd be interested, but I learned SO much and thought his class was fascinating. If I weren't graduating I'd probably switch my major. He's passionate and knowledgeable!!
Good teacher. You will have weekly quizzes and a 500 word essay , which isn't as hard as it sound. He has guest speakers, which open up the hospitality word to you. people can get jobs or internships with these speakers, definitely good to meet people for connections. You do need to attend for clicker points. Trust me its a easy class.
Carl was a great teacher, definitely one of my favorites. You need to do the weekly assignments, and if you have an A at the end of the semester then you are exempt from the final. The guest speakers really helped with the learning material and some students even received jobs from the speakers.
Loved Carl's class! Show up to class and do the essays/quizzes each week and if you have an A by the end of the semester you don't have to take the final
Clear cut guidelines. The guest speakers in class can most certainly open up opportunities for you that you never knew were possible. I liked Carl's tough persona.
There are easy points for attendance and if you make it to 4050 points by week 15 there is no final.
Super easy course . Just do all of your homework that is assigned weekly and don't give your clicker to anyone else! And you're golden :)
Carl was an amazing professor! He really wasn't about book work, he wanted to teach the reality or hospitality.
This was an awesome class with an excellent Professor any class he would offer in the future I would definitely take.
Braunlich has the greatest personality. He makes this class so fun and interesting that I never even wanted to skip! If you go to class and do the weekly assignments getting an A is easy. I got a great introduction to hospitality in this class and would jump at the chance to take another class with this prof.. 100% recommend
Entertaining lectures! You need to show up to every class. Unless you really did not care, you will end the semester with an A. Weekly essays and quizzes online (3 attempts allowed). He gives students a warm welcome to hospitality and gives light to some of the realities of the industry. A lot of uninformed students change majors after this class.
One 500 words essay and one quiz each week
Carl is amazing! Such a respectful and inspirational professor. Always nice, have a great sense of humor, easy going, and respect his student. You should respect him too, and he definitely deserved it. After one or two weeks he will bring the guest speaker to the class, don't be shy to say hi! Read the assessment and pay attention in class.
Carl Braunlich is the best professor if you are talking Hotel Hospitality, Hotel Management you must take his class, he is the best you will love his class
Carl is a great professor, he taught so well, his class is fun and he is funny as well. You have to write many essays and read a lot but you learn a lot through the process.
This class was amazing truly my favorite class to go to purely because I loved all of the guest speakers and lectures. There's an essay and quiz every week but they aren't bad at all. Plus once you reach 4050 points you have an A and don't need to do more work. Carl's class is a great experience!
Amazing professor! Very caring, Homework every week, a quiz and an essay. Go to class because there is Top Hat attendance and you get points for it. As long as you get to 4,050 you will pass with an A and won't have to take the final. Also DON'T talk in class you will get kicked out! The class is very easy pay attention and you'll pass.
Carl's class is both easy and not easy. It is easy that you will get an A as long as you finish all assignments carefully. Nevertheless, students have to do a quiz and an essay every week, which is a lot of work to me. Carl's lecture is very funny, but it upsets me a lot when he contains dirty words. Carl organizes the class in his own way.
Having a solid relationship with the syllabus will be your best bet to passing the course. Take advantage of the lectures because you will have the opportunity to meet a dozen different professionals in the industry. Carl has strong relationships with those in hospitality and a lot of life experience. I definitely recommend taking his class!
super easy class. Each week there an essay and a quiz, both are done online. Essay are graded based on format than it is for content. Lots of guest speaker which gives incredible insight to the industry. After this class, you'll definitely see if you're fit for hospitality.
This professor was great, both a funny guy and a person to be well respected in his line of work and his teaching. Class is as easy as show up and pay attention and mainly two things to worry about in doing actual work- weekly essay and quiz which is not that hard at all. This was a cool class.
honestly the best professor i have taken. the class is really easy, just do all the weekly essays and quizzes to get to 4050 points and you won't have to take the final. His lectures are great and i actually enjoyed going to class. Would definitely take braunlich again.
Carls class is a breeze, just show up, do the weekly quiz (ctrl+F in articles) & essay(follow format in syllabus) if you do these you won't have to take the final and your life will be 10x easier. He brings in great guest speakers, & opportunities for his students. He's great professor, I would take his class again.
Easy to pass, as long as you do your work correctly. I like the incentive to not do the final if you get a certain amount of points during the course. It made me want to do well in the class.
Carl is the best teacher I have had in 3 years of schooling. You can tell he loves his job, and you will learn all about the hospitality industry. There is a quiz and an essay due each week. It may sound like a lot but you are not in high school anymore! He is very funny and makes class enjoyable. I could not recommend him enough.
Great professor! Would honestly recommend having him. (-:
By FAR my favorite professor my first semester at UNLV. Hilarious, engaging, respectable- he's all of it. He gives out extra credit just for you asking questions, so take advantage of it. If you do what he clearly outlines, you will be a "flying eagle" easily.
Great Professor, easy class, easy A
I loved this class it was my favorite all semester! Carl is so laid back and has such a good sense of humor he makes learning more enjoyable. He makes every class interesting and loves when you participate. Weekly one page essay and 10 question quiz. Participate and pay attention and you'll ace this class no problem!
Carl is a great professor. Tons of experience in the industry and if you put the effort in, you will be exempt from the final and receive an A for the course. Interesting lectures and guest speakers, just attend the lectures to receive the easy participation points. One quiz and one 500 word essay every week. DON'T be lazy and you will get an A!
TAKE CARL! He is absolutely so amazing. Favorite professor and favorite class ever. As long as you do what he has asked (which is not hard) and don't slack off, it is a breeze and you won't have to take the final. He is very passionate and knows what he is talking about. Experts come in and speak. This class is great as is Carl!! TAKE HIM!!
I had no idea what to expect going into this course. Carl was able to keep his lectures entertaining and interesting. The course itself was very straight forward. As long as you follow your syllabus you will have an easy time getting an A in the class. Notes are important to take but he posts the more important slides after class for you to review.
Great professor, I learned a lot and he has a great sense of humor. Easy A as long as you follow the basic course guidelines.
Best class and professor I have had at UNLV. He was always able to keep the lectures fun and entertaining. You just have to show up to class every day that it is held, do your two EASY assignments that are due for each week and that is all. I never found myself wanting to miss this class. Also, receive 4,050 in class and can skip final! Easy points
Sweet dude, very fair, overall awesome course!
Really easy class and outgoing professor. It's an easy A if you show up in class everyday and do the essays and quizzes.
Carl is a great teacher! Offers an amazing outlook on hospitality if you're interested in the field. As long as you go to class, and do the weekly assignments, you will get an and not have to take a final. Worth taking for the experience and the A.
He give good lectures. It's always worth it to go to class, and he makes it interesting. The class gives a lot of good information and opportunities if you are serious about HMD as a career.
Carl is a super chill professor. Hes hilarious during lecture and makes the course very interesting. Yeah, every week you have to take an online 25 question quiz but you get 3 attempts to get a 100% (easy stuff) and yeah, you gotta submit a 500 word essay on a topic but it is real easy! An easy A. Control F is your best friend during the quizzes!!
Carl invited a lot of hospitality people to give us the speech and they were helpful. It is a very easy A class if you do the quiz and paper.
Carl is a very inspirational. I recently got the 4050 point achievement. All you have to do is show up, login on TOPHAT, and participate if you want KYS cards. Weekly quizzes and weekly essays. A little hard because Command F will not work on the reading articles but I just started skimming.
This class gives you a total introduction to Hospitality and lets you take a look at the different the industries.
Seriously still my favorite professor after a year of classes. His last lecture of the class has inspired me to work so much harder towards my goals. I would take this class a million more times if I could. He still keeps in contact with me via email, and is very knowledgable! I look forward to taking another class with him in 2018.
Carl is an amazing professor! He wants his students to succeed and talks about the hospitality industry like it is. He will bring in countless guest speakers who are willing to hire you as well. You have a quiz, an essay, and participation points every week but they're easy. He also offers extra credit EVERY class period!!
One of the most fair teachers on campus. If you put in the work all semester you are exempt from the final as a reward. He is very clear on the grading criteria and gives extra credit for participating in class. The course is also very informative. Information is covered in depth and you get to meet industry professionals.
Weekly quizzes and essays. An easy A if you don't mind a ton of busy work. Grades on quiz questions answered in class via the Tophat app. He had a ton of really cool guest speakers, but I probably wouldn't take him again. At one point I asked to turn in an essay that was 3 minutes late and he responded "bless your heart".
This guy is an awesome professor! Teaches relevant, recent info in an interesting way. Carl definitely keeps you engaged and entertained. Show up and do the homework and you'll get an A.
Carl is one of the best professors I have ever taken and it's a fun class. All you have to do is do the essays in the correct format and do the quizzes. He has TOPHAT so attendance is on your phone and you can do it anywhere. Best elective I have ever taken. Get 4050 points before week 15 and you get an A!
Carl is a great professor! I highly recommend taking his classes, He makes it fun and easy! I was a flying eagle in his class which automatically means that you pass the class with an A, when you get a certain amount of points in the class.
This professor has been one of my favorites I have ever taken. He is so knowledgeable in his field, it makes it so easy to listen to him! I took this class as an elective and it ended up being one of my favorite classes! If you have the opportunity to take any of his classes, I highly recommend it!
I'm a sophomore and this is the first class where i actually felt i got my money/value's worth. Amazing professor with lots of experience. Hilarious and blunt, don't fall asleep in his class. Brought in some amazing guest speakers and very important people from around and out of the strip. Super easy, extended turn in date for every assignment.
Insightful professor. Makes lectures fun. Isn't a tough grader.
Carl is fantastic and very funny! The work is extremely easy, but if you pay attention you will learn. He's always bringing in guest speakers. A great class for freshmen. Virtually stress free, but also interesting. His class uses an app called TopHat (just buy 1 sem.). He lectures with a PowerPoint and you just answer 5 multiple choice questions.
Carl Braunlich is the best professor I had this semester. We were using the top hat app so amidst the tech difficulties my class was easier than I presume future classes. He's blunt about what he expects of you and if you do the work he assigns you then you'll pass the class. He encourages outside learning since you are in the perfect city for it.
Best teacher I've had at UNLV. All you need to do is show up and participate. Gives great speeches and brings in great industry speakers. Very accessible outside of class and cares about his students. I actually got a job through his class.
Amazing professor. His lectures aren't boring and he offers extra credit if you ask questions in class. All you have to do is show up to pass. He also went out of his way to email the executives of a new restaurant here in town, as well as follow up with them, to get me a job. Was hired on the spot due to his recommendation and help. Awesome guy!
Mostly guest speakers and answering questions on Top Hat every class. Four weeks into the semester, he cancelled all of our readings, homework, and our final exam. He said he's going to stop using Top Hat next semester, so it may not be as easy in the future. Overall, he's a funny guy and his class was a breeze.
He lecture are some of the best I have ever sat through. He is an easy guy to like who wants to help his students learn and even get jobs. A great person to take a class from and keep in touch with.
It was fair as far as grading goes and he really sticks to the material. There are a lot of papers, however they are short and aren't research papers. Rather, they tend to be more opinion based and make you focus on how you can relate situations you've been in to what is discussed in the book. There is a quiz each week but if you read you'll pass.
carl was a real gem to take here at unlv. he is super smart and really is interested in his lectures, he was a great teacher to have. lectures are interesting. we did have essays and quizzes due every week, the only downside to the class.
Always interesting lectures which made for a fun class :)
Im a freshman here at UNLV and am majoring in Hospitality. At the beginning of the year I was on edge about this major but after taking Carl's class I knew this was the industry I wanted to work in. Carl does an excellent job with his lectures and you leave his class feeling like you truly learned a lot. Could not have asked for a better professor!
Carl is great, he really tries to make it as easy as possible for you to work and progress well in his class. Each class is recorded and if he makes a mistake (rarely, if ever) he is forward about and adjusts accordingly so as to not overly effect the students
Carl has been an amazing Professor throughout HMD 101. He knows how to connect with the students in a way that was very beneficial for my first college semester. I am very fortunate to have had Carl as my Professor and I look forward to using him as a connection throughout my college and work career.
Carl was an amazing professor. His lectures never failed to expand my knowledge on the hospitality industry. There are a total of 15 essays and 15 quizzes in this course. Extra credit (kys cards) are handed out in each lectures for those who interact by asking questions, answering questions, making a comment, etc. Overall an amazing course.
Carl is one of my favorite professors this semester. His class is very informational and fun. Although attendance is not mandatory for this class, you should show up for class anyways and participate to get KYS cards which is extra credit points. The essay prompts and quizzes are easy because most of it is directly from the lecture. EASY A FOR SURE
Quiz and a 500 word quiz due every Saturday, attendance isn't mandatory but if you attend and participate, you can get extra credit. Almost always won't get higher than an 85 on the essays. If you miss class, a video recording of the lecture and ppt is online in a few hours so easy to catch up. Overall, incredible professor.
Carl is the best professor I've ever seen. You might need to write a weekly essay, but it is easy. I hope you guys enjoy the class!
There is a quiz and a 500 word essay due every week. Lectures are interesting and informative. He wants students to succeed and gives them every opportunity to do so. He offers extra credit for class participation, and records his lectures for review. Attendance is not mandatory, but extra credit is offered in class setting only. Great class!
Carl is one of the best hospitality professors EVER. He knows how to keep students engaged & make lectures enjoyable to attend. Weekly quizzes and essays, but they are easy. Attending lecture isn't required, but suggested because there is extra credit in class only. I would take this course & professor 10 more times- and I think that says it all.
He isn't a bad professor but make sure you use the correct font for the essays or you could possibly fail. His grading is not fair and you only get a decent grade on your paper whether he liked it or not, no real guidelines, which makes it not fair. Also his open period to do the quiz and essay is very weird & doesn't fit a busy schedule for most.
Very fun class and Carl is hilarious. Attendance isnt required but there is extra credit if you participate in class. (Highly suggested) Essay and Quiz every week but they arent hard to do if you manage your time wisely! Hes very speficif about format!! I used to hate the essays, but with time they really expanded my knowledge of the industry.
Every week you have a quiz and essay worth 100 points, there is a reading assignment as well that Carl wrote but I rarely read it. The class is very fun and interesting, carl is an amazing lecturer so if I had to miss class I was sad. He gives extra credit if you ask questions in class. I also didn't have to take the final because I had an A.
Carl is my favorite professor by far. The lectures are entertaining and you get extra credit just for asking questions. He uploads all the lectures on canvas and the only homework you have is a weekly quiz and essay. The essay only needs to be 500 words long, and the more you do it, the easier it gets.
This professor is an AMAZING person and I really enjoyed being in his class! There will be weekly essays and quizzes, but they are easy once you get the hang of it and know what you will be typing. The essay format is really important otherwise, you'll lose points but other than that, it's a great class. Make sure to read and follow his lectures!
definitely a different spectrum of education. very understanding and receptive to questions and concerns especially in regards to assignments.
His class is fairly easy, most of the quiz answers are on his slides. He's picky about the format of the weekly essays and barely read them anw. But you can get kys cards to bring up your grades.
Very hard class if you are not a strong writer. Weekly essays are required and are graded VERY harshly. Teacher and lectures were very fun and inspired me to continue in hospitality. Lots of extra credit opportunities are offered for in class participation but they are extremely competitive because the entire class needs them.
Best Professor I ever meet. As long as you put in the work, you will pass this class. He is supper hilarious, his lecture is amazing. Great knowledge in the field. A lot of Extra Credit opportunity. Do expect a lot of writing though.
your effort reflects your grade in this class. it's straight forward and Carl is willing to help in case you need it. His teaching style is fun and useful.
His class is very fun and lectures are never boring. Always gives feedback during office hours. Overall a great professor, would highly recommend taking his class.
Best professor ever. He is funny, teach amazing lessons and there is a great atmosphere in the class. However, there is a quiz and an essay every week, but they are very interesting and all the information is provided during lectures. More than that, if you have over 95% score for his class you dont have to take the final.
Being an out of state student professors like this are the main reason for coming out here. Carl is an incredible book of knowledge that teaches through his experience in the industry. His humor and zeal are some of the many reasons he is great professor and this class is great!
1. Format your essay EXACTLY as specified. 2. Follow the essay structure EXACTLY as specified. 3. Answers to quizzes are on the slides. 4. Go to class 5. Ask LOTS of questions 6. DO GO to his office hours
This professor does not allow electronics in class, but his lectures are actually INTERESTING! Not once did I ever find myself bored. The way he lectures and the information he teaches are very fun. There are weekly quizzes and essays once a week about the lectures. I would definitely take his class again if I had to.
Carl is an amazing professor. He has a great sense of humor and all of his lectures are very interesting.
Carl is a really cool professor and his lectures are really interesting to know. However, his homework is hefty and he can be really picky with his essay formatting. Also, you have to get an A to avoid taking the 5 essay finals at the end of the semester. But overall, I would love to take his class again!
Had an amazing semester with Carl as our professor, despite the workload! Carl is very entertaining and funny in class (making his lectures very easy to pay attention to) and personally inspired me to continue into the hospitality industry. If you want to take a small step to see what the hospitality major is like- Carl is the one I'd recommend.
Love him ! should take this professor once in you life !
Carl is such an amazing professor and I'm so glad he taught this course. I was able to learn so much about the hospitality industry because of him. He grades fairly and his lectures are easy to follow along.
carl was easily my fav professor i took this semester. there were weekly quizzes and essays. MAKE SURE you follow the format on the essays, one silly mistake will have you at a 65%. he gives extra credit if you participate in class and genuinely cares about his students. recommend to anyone interested in the hospitality industry
Super interactive and fun lectures
Carl is amazing! Informative and fun class with many chances to get extra credit (just for talking in class). I would highly recommend going to his office hours and getting to know him. If you have an A in the course, you don't take the final. Fair grader and down to Earth, fun guy. He tells you the truth of the hospitality industry. I recommend!!
Taking HMD 101 with Carl helped me know that I will definitely love working in the Hospitality industry. His class does have a lot of assignments, (one quizze and essay each week) but as long as you stay on top of them you'll get A's fairly easily. Class attendance is optional, you can earn extra credit for asking questions. Fun class!
One of the best classes I have ever taken. You get to have fun while learning so much about hospitality. I would take this class again in a heartbeat.
Carl is by far one of the best professors I have ever taken. He genuinely cares about his students and their success. The lectures are interesting and mirror the quizzes and essay assignments. Carl does an amazing job of informing students about the hospitality industry. If you have the opportunity to take any of his courses I highly recommend it
Great person! You just need to follow the format exaclty for the essays and work hard since the beginning.
Great Professor. The class was very informative. The lectures mirror exactly what will be on the quizzes and essay. Make sure you follow instructions.
Carl is a great professor. Read his syllabus, ask questions, connect to his LinkedIn, go to office hours, work with your friends on your quizzes, but most importantly show up to class! His lectures are SO worth it. I love hospitality so much more because of him. I didn't mind the weekly quiz or essays because of how interesting the material was.
One word he is the G.O.A.T !
I loved his lectures and this class was the only class that I was truly interested in throughout my first semester during college. And do go to his office hours if you want to improve your essay grades. He will give very honest feedback:) ) I would def take his class again!
Carl is awesome. He makes his lectures available online and all homework is done online. Lots of chances for extra credit in class. This class is a lot of work for a 100 level. If you reach 95% or higher you are exempt from the final! Would take another class of his again in the future, but I think HMD101 is all he teaches.
The class has a quiz and essay each week of the course, but the most important way to receive points is to participate in class because the professor will give you extra credit points for every comment, question, or concern you present while in class.
Best Teacher of my whole life. Down to earth. Always fun to listen to and you feel passionate to impress. Do the work and try you will get an A. 10/10
I loved his class. I stopped attending the class after 3rd week. Quizzes are based on his lectures.
100 point quiz and 100 point essay due every single week with a firm sat 6pm deadline. quizzes are entirely lecture based, posts all lectures online. extra credit available during every lecture you attend. very qualified teacher, has lots of hosp experience that was interesting to learn about. has definitely been cultured by life. funny guy too!
Carl is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. He made his lectures very interesting and easy to follow. One 500 word essay and 25 question quiz a week, very easy if you show up to class because his lectures sometimes vary from the ones he posts online. Gave lots of extra credit points at the end so I didn't have to take final. Love him
Great professor! Not necessary to attend classes but it help because he give extra points on each class! Personally I understand better in class than taking the online class that he upload after every class!! Essays every week, a little work but help for the end! If you complete everything he ask at the end you might not have to take the final exam
He is a wonderful teacher and me and my friends can all relate to the time we had his class together. He is easy to talk to, caring and supportive about his students in class. He records is lectures so really you don't have to be there if you have a job or something going on. That said I highly recommended you go because one can get extra points.
Carl is the best prof ever. He cares that his students do well and his lectures are fun to listen to and you learn a lot. If you participate he gives you extra credit. I miss Carl every day now that I dont have him
Before I walked into Carl's class, I thought I new some basics about hospitality. After I left his class, I realized I new nothing! Carl is from the industry and knows so much about how things work and what is expected of you when you walk into the industry. The one advice I will give to you is do your quizzes, essays, and participate timely!
Carl is seriously the best! A wonderful professor who cares and is so knowledgeable about the hospitality business and wants you to succeed. The lectures are funny, interesting, and go by so fast. There are quizzes and essays every week throughout the semester that are easy if you go to class, take notes, and pay attention. Take him if you can!
He is truly the best professor I have ever met. All of his guidelines were clear and as long as you keep up with the lectures, the weekly quizzes and essays are easy to do. I seriously have no complaints!
Course is clear cut and dried. 1 500 word essay and 1 quiz every week online. Participate for extra credit and its an easy A.
Class is really easy, but you learn a lot about the hospitality industry. During lectures, he hands out easy extra credit points if you participate and ask questions. All you have to do is pay attention to his lectures and the quizzes are easy
I loved Carl's lectures! He makes it entertaining and exciting! He is also very accessible and always willing to help students. You are not required to attend every lecture, but I would highly recommend attending since that's the only way you can get KYS cards for extra credit. There are an essay and a quiz every week, but nothing hard.
Carl was easily one of my favorite professors this year. Due to the pandemic, I only had him half the semester but he still managed to be easy to access for any questions. He's super funny and very knowledgeable. One quiz and one essay due per week but they are very simple and go right with the lectures. Extra credit is offered for participating.
Just a very easy going relatable person, who is very intelligent. Makes the course concepts very digestible. One of the best professors I've ever had.
Dr. Braunlich really knows the business of hospitality. Vice chair for a public gaming company, former chef, and knows everything about hospitality. Two lectures per week; if you miss class the lecture's available online. He wrote the text book & chapters are online. Weekly 500-word essays & 30 question quizzes. No exam if you get a 95%. Great guy!
Carl has easly been the best professor I've ever had. He makes lectures something you dont want to miss because of his first hand knowledge in the industry paired with hilarious commentary. Don't let the weekly essay/quizzes intimidate you. The quiz is an A & the essay can be knocked out in one sitting. He also gives participation pts in class
Carl was hilarious during his lectures and always made showing up to class an enjoyable experience. While you do have to take a 25 question quiz and also write a 500 word essay every week, it's all based on what was in the lecture slides. They're a lot easier than they sound. Attendance is not mandatory but he will give you extra credit.
Carl's class has been one of my favorite classes. I always looked forward to them. Carl was always prepared for each lecture and his class is ran smoothly. It is very clear what is expected of the students and he also has a clear grading criteria. He provides extra credit for participation so don't forget to do so!
Carl is the best. The class is very easy to pass, but to excel you have to put in the work. I very much look up to Carl and will stay in contact throughout my time at the university and beyond, I hope. The class is work, but the criteria are consistent and the material is very interesting. Carl ignited a spark I didn't know I had for Hospitality.
Carl has been one of the most entertaining professors I've had by far. I'm moving into my sophomore year and he always has the most fun and intriguing classes. One thing to just be wary of is that he will give you a 65 if you don't follow the essay requirements. It's really easy considering he gives you the rubric every essay but just pay attention
I really enjoyed taking Carl's class. He is a very interesting and entertaining person with a lot of experience in the hospitality field. The biggest downfall is there is a paper due every week based on things in the lecture. Although the paper is not terribly hard, that is the thing that will get you the most grade wise. His lectures are optional.
Lectures are in person and recorded online so attendance is optional. You can refer to recorded lectures for help with quizzes too! My number 1 tip is to attend at least a few lectures for extra credit questions. I accumulated enough extra credit to pass with nearly 100%. If you perform well throughout the course the final is waived.
There are reading assignments that go over the subject (The 6 Hospitality Boxes). Lessons are pre-recorded in which he discusses the lessons and provides the requirement for the essays. Formatting in the essays is significant. Quizzes are from the lessons so pay attention to the lessons. Dr. Carl is approachable as he responds to emails immediately
I love Carl he's hilarious and makes the class fun. Every week you have to take an online 25 question quiz but you get 3 attempts and a 500-word essay on a topic but it is really easy! Control F is defiantly your friend during the quizzes!! My class was online so I never got to meet Carl but he seems so fun. Definitly recommend
To start off, Professor Braunlich is a fantastic lecturer. The tests aren't too tricky but you have to take good notes on the lectures (or use the lecture slides to pass). Some questions are about the specific wording he used in the lecture. Also the essays are graded on format. I uploaded a previous week's essay by mistake and got an A.
I took this class online (it was ok), so maybe his class is better in person. You will have a 4 paragraph/500 word min. paper and quiz due every Saturday. Extensions are not granted, AT ALL. Also, when he says double spaced he really means single spaced (important for papers). Don't bother emailing the professor for feedback or with questions.
His class was very organized as it was moved online. I was very impressed with how organized it was. He's very informative and he gives you three chances on the weekly quizzes. The weekly essay is kind of daunting at first, but it gets easier as the semester goes on.
You are graded by a quiz and an essay every week. He is educational through all the pre-recorded lectures. You have to triple-check your formatting for essays and he is inconsistent with what an A essay is versus a B essay.
