Way Hard Teacher! Doesn't explain well and doesn't wait for class to understand material, just plows through examples. Doesn't follow syllabus. Stay far away from this teacher!
hard test, does not help out if you attend office hours
Hard teacher. tests can be extremely difficult and teaching is not too good. is not that friendly either.
hard and doesnt show up for class and then adds more to the curriculum
This guy is an ****...Hes rude...HEs smart but thinks everyone should know as much as him..STAY AWAY....F--
****ing terrible. I seriously think he failed the entire class. If you can avoid this guy, seriosuly do so. He makes me bitter...
assigns a boatload of problems without explaining how to do it. avoid taking this professor at all costs. i think he failed quite a few people in my class. creates ridiculus tests
the way this guy grades, the way he curves, the way he teaches should not be allowed at our university...i think 40% of the class failed....aviod this guy, don't even think about taking his class cuz he will ruin your semester....
Not the best Mathematics professor I've had. Very vague with his lectures. Basic format of every lecture is to offer a Cliffnotes version of the topic at hand, solve the simplest problem off the chapter and assign the rest of the problems as homework. He doesn't offer much help after that.
Extremely smart, good teacher, gives challenging but fair exams, only problem is his office hours because he works part-time in the evening and his office hours are late in the evening. Who can attend an 8:30pm office hours????
tough class but he made it easy...bad office hours...really late at night.smart but can be confusing especially the proving of theorem. Overall great teach!
I took his Statistics Class back in 1999 and he is the best in STATISTICS. Comes to class with no notes. This was an upper division class and almost everyone got at least a B.
THE BEST STATISTICS TEACHER. COMES TO CLASS WITH NO NOTES. KNOWS THE SUBJECT MATTER BY HEART. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR STATS BUT I DON'T KNOW ABOUT OTHER MATH CLASSES
I signed up because I thought he was Russian but he looks Chinese and he is Filipino. Very good teacher. Very smart. test hard but you can still get A+. Knows subject very well. Highly recommended
I had him for Math 32 and Math 133a. He is the best. His tests are unique but very doable. He is strict with attendance. He knows everybody by name. He has photographic memory because he remembers your answers and scores, etc. Very impressive teacher. Very dedicated.
This guy is excellent, very smart, caring. The exams can be challenging but he is considerate and is willing to help the students. Down to earth and I think he is a Christian. YOU SHOULD TAKE HIS CLASSES IF YOU WANT TO LEARN REAL MATH!!!!
I also had him in Calculus 3 and he was superb. I also had him in 133a. His exams are challenging but predictable because he tells you during his lecture what he expects on the test. You really have to listen carefully because he is fond of dropping some hints. Take those hints seriously and you will ace his class.
what's up with this guys ratings? he's all 1's up until 2007, then straight 5's. Is this real?
this professor, while helpful is unclear sometimes in his explanations, he likes to skip steps during his lectures and goes extremely fast through his notes. This all adds to class confusion. I'm not saying he's a bad teacher i'm just saying I have certainly had better, but he is the best for math 133a. Students Solution manual is HIGHLY recommend
I hadhim last summer and it being really fast i was able to pull an A- because this teacher was good. He may not be a 5 overall but he is definitely a 4, no doubt.
take his class....
SUBJECT DIFFICULT BUT HE MAKES IT EASY. A LOT OF PROVING IN THIS CLASS MORE THAN APPS. GOOD FOR MATH MAJOR.
Took him over the summer. Fairly difficult to cover in just a few weeks. His test are tough but if you do the homework and go to class they are hard not to pass.
All I really need to say is I got three A's and 1 B in my entire calculus series< and I got a D in this class. This teacher is very unclear, likes to skip steps without telling you, and has ridiculously difficult tests. Do not be fooled by any of the above positive comments.
I agree about the difficulty about the class but he made them really easy; he is the most considerate of all teachers giving extra credits left and right. I t is unfair that you blame him for your grade. There is always two sides of a story. I don't think he is teaching this class this semester, though. I will definitely take classes from this dude
i GOT A C BY LUCK. HE IS GOOD AND VERY ACCOMODATING. He does a lot of proving and deriving which drives me nuts but his tests do not require proving. He loves those tank/volume problems.Yuck I agree that his tests are difficult but they are not out of this world. Appraochable but tough at times. OVerall very good instructor. Overall rating is a 4.
I have always been a C student in Calculus but I got a B- from this dude. He not only is the best teacher he is also very considerate. I don't know about you guys but I would definitely take any math class from this dude. I could have gotten a better grade if I turned in the homework on finals day, bummer!!!
Nothing particularly too hard about his class. He assigns a lot of homework thats due at the end of the semester, but he's probably the best teacher to take for MATH 133A.
I took this class three times and boy, it did not make sense until I had this teacher. He is not easy but is definitely the best to explain things. He does like to give a lot of applications which is good but they are piece of cake. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
I heard he is teaching this summer. Take his class. He is the best in Math 133a. I had him last summer and it was great and short. It was only 5 weeks but a lot of work and assignment but it was worth the money and time.
I agree 1000%. I got an A in that class last summer. He does give people chance to pass and that's one attribute this teacher has over others who do not care. As students, we need compassion, mercy, and a second chance.
I'm definitely taking his summer diffeq class. I got an A- in Math 32.
NOBODY can beat this one...very good at what he does especially the applications to Diffeg. Exams can be hard but he grades them fairly. I got a B- which is exactly what I deserved!!
He is a good teacher. He is very helpful. He is very clear about his concepts and teaches very well. He will make your calc fundamentals very strong. There is HW as any other class. Gives enough time to do it. His tests are a bit hard, but nothing out of the blue. Doesn't curve at all, but do take his class if you want to learn CALC really well.
A+ teacher for Diffeq. I took him last summer and lectures were crystal clear. Exams were a bit hard but he is reasonable in grading them. Too fast to take for summer though. I also took him for MAth 31 and that's how I learned how good he is. My integration skills were sharpened in 31 and prepared mefor 133a. Follow him in all yourcalculus class
He's really good and he prepares you for your next math class. He had me master dervatives which I did not understand at first but now am a pro i can even tutor. He does algebraic tricks thats out of this world! great teach in math. Grab every opportunity to take his class.
He is an amazing teacher, yes his exams are tough but if you do your homework and take notes in class and give yourself enough time to study, you'll do fine. He will really teach you math..and gives you such a good understanding of the class! he does push you, but only to get the best out of you! take the challenge and be better at math!
This class is not hard at all. I took it in the summer which is a 5 week session. It was Hella fast. Take it in. The semester. Trust me before getting into the class , just master the integration and derivatives from calc 1 and 2......Calc 3 doesn't matter in this class. Exams are hard. He gives extra credit. But doesn't curve the grades
Pros: -Articulate when explaining problems in lecture -Gives some opportunity for extra credit Cons: -The lectures do not prepare students for the extremely difficult tests -Gives no partial credit -Doesn't curve overall grades for people who are passing, but will curve for those who are failing (which was half of the class!! - Only one A)
Carl was an good hard teacher. got an F on the first test got a D on the second test got a C on the last test and have no idea how i did on the final but defiantly better than the average. Just work hard and show improvement. I did well on homework and quizzes like c to b+.Go to class cause he gives credit secretly.
I feel like if I paid more attention to previous midterms that I would have done much better on the final. You definitely have to study to pass, but overall the class is challenging, but not impossible.
Giving amazing lectures! He made learning Math so much fun if you are not afraid of a challenge. Best math professor ever! Class time is not always enough, so preview textbook examples and review class examples help you to follow. Class and textbook examples combined with exam questions are the key to get a good grade. His class is the best!!
I took him for calculus 2 and he was pretty good. The subject is hard itself but if you keep up with his lecture, and homework, you should be fine. However, he does give a lot of homework and quizzes. He really emphasize "eye-balling". ATTEND CLASS EVERYDAY!! ITS A MUST IF YOU WANT TO PASSS!!
Lectures were never enough, he rushed through sections to try and keep on track rather than slow down the pace and make sure students understand. He does not actually care about students. If you're taking MATH71 at SJSU, you will not see his name until the first day of class. If you see that you have this professor, GET OUT. Learn from my mistake.
Probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. If you have him, I strongly recommend trying to get someone else. I had to help myself a lot of the semester, as he also doesn't fully answer questions through office hours. He refers you to an example in the book. Meh.
not a good professor. i definitely dont recommend him. unless u have taken calculus in the past and know ur stuff, dont choose this professor
The best calculus class I've ever taken. Great lectures, hard examples but will really make you think and work hardest. Very considerate and allows extra credits in several occasions. The material itself is hard but he makes it easy and gets you prepared for higher math. Definitely a greater teacher for Calc2.
Never take him! Almost everyone in the class got a D or F and it wasn't for a lack of trying. He gets confused easily and his lectures can be hard to follow. Tests are insanely hard, they are long and confusing, no body finishes them. When doing test corrections the next day he doesn't even know how to do his own problems.
I am not the best in math but I managed a B- in this class despite failing one test because he is considerate and gives you a chance. Office hours is a big secret for him. Ask him everything and plead your case like i did. He is definitely a great lecturer. Definitely take him but also spend some time in his office to ask questions. That's how I g
Emphasizes being able to "see" how to do a problem right away. The problem is if you aren't able to "see" how to do problems right away you are not going to be able to finish his exams on time or figure out most his problems. He LOVES trig, inverse trig, and logarithms so beware if those aren't your strengths. Literally 90% of my class failed
I haven't taken Math 71 nor Math 31 from him but he is definitely the best teacher for Diff Eq and Lin ALg. His lectures were excellent, tons of homework, exams were tough but he was very considerate in giving out grades. Nobody failed that class. It was a very late night class though. I definitely recommend him for Diff Eq.
Very tough class but I passed and graduated because of him. I took this class for the third time and understood the materials well. Don't know if it's his great lectures or i just learned it after the third try. He is considerate but tough
He is the best calculus teacher ever. I took him for 30 and 31. He sounds tough and threatening in the beginning but he is really a good and considerate teacher. He is willing to give extra credits especially if the class average is low. Ask him questions during office hours and he reveals his test questions to you. That's how I passed.
Impressive lectures, challenging exams but considerate grader. I flunked the first exam and he told me to stay on and he'll help everyone to pass the class. The exams continued to be tough but a lot of us are getting A's and B's because of his lectures and examples. The final exam is the BIGGGGGEST DEAL for him. I got an A- from failing an exam.
Good teacher! Very reasonable tests. Just make sure you attend class and study deeply on the examples and do all the homework. Hes very funny, you have to work for the grade. No exception! If you dont put in the effort you will get the results you deserve. Know your trig
Great lectures. Pace yourself on his exams and study integration DAILY to ensure success in this class. He will throw any integration curveball at you and say its fair game. Kind and willing to help as long as you take the initiative. The grind will be worth it, just stay motivated.
He first starts off with the class on memorizing on trig identities because those are a big factor to majority of his tests. A lot of my classmates including myself were struggling and thought he would at least drop a score from one of our tests but he didn't. I would suggest you not to take him if you have a part-time job or in a fraternity
Definitely a great lecturer. Exams can be hard if you don't prepare. Take notes and attend lectures and you will be fine. Screwed up on exams but did well on Final and earned a decent grade. You will learn a lot of algebra and trig from this guy. Some of them you haven't seen before. TAKE THIS CLASS
He's an amazing professor. He tries to emphasize the importance of showing up. His lectures are pretty easy to follow and he is always willing to clear things up during office hours. Super kind and approachable. Probably one of my favorite math profs so far.
By far the hardest class I've ever taken, I wouldn't have made it through without Professor Bugarin's great grading policy. The exams are truly brutal, people literally cried. If you genuinely pay attention, participate in the lectures, show up to office hours, and study hard; you'll be fine, but this is likely the hardest class you'll ever take.
Bugarin is pretty intimidating in the beginning but he's pretty lenient. Definitely curved the grades a lot for everyone at the end- perhaps a little more depending on your participation. Lectures are really good but he won't hesitate to pick on kids randomly during class to answer questions. Expect to be drilled every now and then.
Bugarin is definitely an easier MATH 31 professor than the others for this class. Although he struggles a bit with the online/virtual school environment, he's pretty good at teaching his stuff. He's really understanding of his students and would move homework and test dates if enough of us asked for an extension.
Prof. Bugarin is a good teacher. He makes sure that everyone follows as he explains things. There was one quiz every Thursday, but they were heavily based on the examples provided during the lecture and easy. He cares for students who try their best and curves the grades at the end of the semester. Participation matters to him a lot.
Grading is super hard and none of the exam problems are even remotely similar to the homework problems or what's available in the textbook. He never posts grades either so you can't actually tell what you have in the class.
He's very helpful, and wants everyone to do as good as they can.
Bugarin was a breathe of fresh air. His lectures are easy to follow, if a bit fast, and he genuinely cares about each of his students. He'll notice if the class is struggling and do what he can to throw you a bone. His exams are really tough, but if you go to class and master the material you'll do fine. I'm a bit glad I'll likely retake his class.
He simplifies the concepts and makes them very digestible. There is no substitute for practice! Make use of his office hours to ask questions. Make sure to regularly participate as he raises your grade for doing so. Go through class notes thoroughly and make sure to understand the concepts from the notes very well or else exams will be very hard.
I took him this semester in the morning class, he was by far one of the best professors ever. Even though I did not pass, he still made the 7:30 am class very engaging and made sure that we should participate no matter what. I'm grateful for him, thank you, professor!
Great professor all around. He cares about what hes teaching and he wants everyone to pass, you just have to put in the work. Class consisted of 4 exams, 2 quizzes, 1 group quiz, and the final exam. I didnt get over a 70 on 3/4 of the exams and he still passed me with a C+. Just show up and study a lot and you should be fine.
He's really good at his job, he knows what he's doing. Tbh, his tests weren't extremely hard, they were quite straightforward and if you studied and practiced you'll be fine. He cares about participation and will call on people randomly. In the end, he will count it towards your grade and curve you based on it.
Professor Bugarin is an amazing teacher all around. He cares a lot for students and makes an effort to engage with students like myself, who tend to struggle in math. He expects you to be engaging and be prepared to answer questions, but will never get angry if you genuinely try. Try your best, talk to him, and you'll pass the class!
One if not the best professor I've ever had in my life. Extremely caring and will do anything to make sure we pass. Knows his stuff extremely well and makes the topics easy to digest. Didn't do so well in final and first test and he still passed me with a C. Participation matters to him a lot, he will curve you at the end of the semester on it.
This professor is very good. Lectures are great. Very careful teaching!!!!
He is definitely not the easiest proffesor but you learn a lot. He doest give grades til end of semester tho
He's a VERY good lecturer. Test problems/weekly quizzes always covered in some way/example during lecture. When he says to do something or puts emphasis on a topic, you prioritize it cause it was always a hint to something rewarding. LOTS of algebra/trig. curves. extra test time. Just genuinely a very good professor who actually cared for students.
Very good professor. His knowledge in math was well taught to students. He makes sure to challenge you and push your limits to improve. Make sure to take good notes as those are crucial for the test and weekly quizzes. He is also funny. Also, participation greatly matters to him, so participate as he curves you with total participation. OP lecturer
You can expect a short quiz at the end of every week. Study the in class problems and you should be fine. There were a total of three midterms and a final exam. Do not expect the midterms to be on par with the quizzes. If you find yourself struggling on the quizzes just a couple of weeks in, that is a sign to drop the class.
Other reviews dont stress JUST how difficult he is. As someone who thinks themself as just average at math,I spent a TON of time preparing for his weekly quizes and 3 midterms. Biggest issue is that he just doesnt give a lot of time for his quizes/tests,so hav 2 rush. Overall, did learn a lot & feel prepared 4 calc3 but my grade def suffered.
Great lectures, cares about his students, probably the best math teacher/professor I've ever had. He's very kind, understanding and hilarious but some what serious about attendance. If you just show up every day and pay attention you'll definitely pass. Calculus is hard, you also need to do your part. He'll definitely help.
A pretty great professor, but truly a difficult class. Lots of time spent into preparing for the weekly quizzes. Study his lecture materials well, learn from his examples. Use webassign hw to practice only after you understand the material. He acknowledges hard work and likes lecture participants- truly put in the work and you will be fine.
Honestly, he was a pretty average math teacher. While he does care for his students, his midterms were more abstract. They never lined up with homework, etc. Super heavy on participation, so it sucks if this makes you nervous.
The G.O.A.T. Just participate and he'll clutch up for you as long as you are truly trying to understand the material. The GOAT
Professor's lectures are very easy to follow along with as he does a good job explaining each examples' steps and gives advice as to how to memorize complex content. Weekly quizzes are based off examples from lecture/HW. 2 midterms were pretty straight forward. He recognizes each student's effort & gives ec opportunities if class needs it.
He is one of the best math professors in all of SJSU. Really cares about making sure everyone understands the material and rewards participation and effort. There are weekly quizzes and 2 midterms that you need to keep up with in order to keep your grade up. Th quizzes vary in difficulty and midterms are doable as long as you study a lot.
Worst professor ever. Can't even teach and unnecessarily tough on grading. Terrible.
Terriable, the first exam was hard, there were so many questions to answer in a 50 minute class, the other professors only had 3 intergal to answer while we had 7 intergal and combine with other topic. The second one is easier but still not have enough time to slove it all, I look over other professor's exam it is way easier than this guy exam.
Midterms are impossible to finish within 50 minutes. Filled with tricky questions with strategies not even covered in class. Apparently it's the norm for everyone to fail the first midterm (he said this) Other professor's midterms were more straightforward and won't ruin your gpa. Don't need textbook but you pay $100 to do WebAssign homework.
Bad professor that requires you to spend $100 for WebAssign when there are other websites to give homework. Unable to finish midterms with 50 minutes and he expects us to fail the first midterm.
The absolute goat. Most intelligent, kind prof i've ever had. TAKE THIS MANS CLASS.
Make sure to do a lot of practice problems and you should be fine. He's really helpful and approachable, and his lectures are very easy to understand. The class itself isn't really as difficult as everyone makes it seem but you should still be willing to put in the work or else you might not pass. Highly recommend this class (gr8 grading policy)
Expects to finish midterms combined of 20 complicated questions within 50 minutes. Very less time and less room for thinking. Recommend to take other professors if you could.
Although my final grade was not passing, I have to say that Bugarian was a great professor. His exams were a bit difficult I would say, but in general he is very knowledgeable and helpful.
I took Bugarin's class a couple of semesters ago and from what I remember he was a good professor. However, you need to beware that the tests and quizzes are much harder than the example problems given in class. He combines multiple concepts into one problem and you really have to "see" the solution to do well.
Amazing professor, had him for both 31 and 32 a bit back. Great explanations in class and exams reflect what he taught us, exams can be tough but he takes it into account and gives great feedback, participation is key so he knows that you're trying your best, remember your algebraic manipulation and you'll be set, slam dunk!
He is a very aggressive teacher. He gets mad at students. He just solves problems on the whiteboard. I think his teaching style doesn't suit for this class. His teaching style suits Calc 2 & 3. He assigns us so much homework. For the exam, he gave us 11 questions and expected us to solve in 75 mins. This class is tough already and he made it worse.
This professor is caring but provides minimal help. His class consists of his own style lecture and some examples. Homework and in-class examples were nothing like the exams. No practice exams. Weekly quizzes that cover the class content. Be prepared to study long hours.
Second time to take this class. Never understood poker, matching, and birthday problems but he did explain it clearly versus last teacher. He assigned so many homework and very difficult exams but he is an excellent lecturer and is considerate. very approachable. Spent so much time studying and doing homework for this class but worth the time. Best
He is very passive aggressive. He is also fierceful but knowledgeable. I'm so glad I dropped
I don't think I would have passed this class if I had another professor. Yes, his exams are extremely hard (I got a 51, 49, and 64) but I also admit I definitely did not study as much as I should have. I asked a lot of questions both in class and office hours and he was always happy to answer. All in all, a great professor who made calc 2 bearable.
Overall, the best math teacher I've ever had at SJSU and I'm a math major. He is old school teacher who loves to write on the board rather than using power point slides but I like his style of teaching and is an excellent lecturer. His exams are difficult but he is considerate in grading. His calculus skills are out of this world - so prepare.
Wasn't initial prof assigned, but he was there. At least a couple times wrote union/intersection symbol while saying the opposite. Quizzes were every week and had enough time. Tests, if you kept writing the entire time, you might be able to finish them. Barely used Canvas, only for a few announcements. Final seemed written by a different professor.
The most well-versed, knowledgeable, and practiced professor I've ever had. His class is difficult, but he is reasonable & fair, and will reward hard work a lot more than he lets on in the beginning of the year. He will prepare you for the final better than any other professor. He will not only teach you math, but will teach you to be fluent in it.
Bugarin will prepare you for future math courses. Participation matters, and there are unmissable quizzes and brutal midterms, but he will closely observe your effort, and give you the score you deserve. Regarding his exams... prepare to be tested on problems where the line of thinking is completely different to anything you've solved before.
This professor has high expectations, but if you stay on top of the work and utilize resources like Unstuck AI, you can succeed. The tests are challenging, but he provides great feedback. Overall, a rewarding experience.
This Professor is fairly cunning when it comes to teaching often giving us shortcuts before basics. Everything on the exam and weekly quizzes are MENTAL CALCULATIONS. If you know how to do class problems quickly, it's a "SLAM DUNK!!" as he recycles common problems. He expects you to compute in light speed every time. DON'T TAKE IF U COMPUTE SLOW!!
Best math professor at SJSU hands down. Amazing lectures I've learned so much. Has gotten me to love math. Midterms are 50 minutes long and will require blood sweat and tears. He will pass you if you put in the effort and show up to class everyday. Weekly quizzes. Participation is a must in that class. Funny too and clicks w students. Take Bugarin!
Great teacher. He's such a chill guy and explains great, and works to make sure students understand and encourages to ask questions. Hard tests, but thats just how Calc2 is and he also helps us out on tests by knocking off a few points here and there and rounding. Has fun teaching and has personality. Participation is key to getting a good grade
The absolute GOAT of the university. If you want to pass (and w/ good grade) put the time and effort in. He will curve you individually based off your understanding and performance at the end of the course. Quizzes every Thursday and exams are HARD. Very caring professor and will take his time to actually know you.
overall a tough but fair professor, your grade mostly depend on weekly quizzes and 3 exams, but if you study you should be fine. attendance is not exactly mandatory but i recommend going to his lectures regardless. also keep in mind he may extend his lectures/quizzes past the end time by a few minutes if that matters to you
Amazing professor who has a attitude that makes you want to learn. He is a very caring professor. Your grade depends on 3 exams and a final. If you attend lectures as much as possible, the exams aren't bad. Attendance and participation isn't graded, he does pay extra attention to those who put in the effort. The class is hard but blame the subject.
