When I first had the class, I didn't think I was going to survive it. He gave off this really bad impression. But, as time went by he lightened up. His assignments aren't that difficult. Attendance is mandatory, unfortunately. But, he's not a bad guy.

ok he gives 2 essays, a midterm and a final.If you study his notes you will pass the class guaranteed. att. is very imp. he comes out as very nasty and tough in the beginning but overall he isn't that hard, like i said just study what he goes over...

Comes off as harsh in the beginning but after a few classes he really lightens up. Great guy, will help you if you show up to office hours ready with what you need help on. He already took the notes for you in his study guide that you have to buy.

He seems grumpy, but he really isn't. Just follow his rules, pay (somehwat) attention and you will do fabulously.

He is scrict, but it is very easy to do well if you "play by his rules" I took notes, payed attention, and got an A.

Dr. Gottschall has changed my opinion about mathematics. For the past decade I have loathed any mathematics course, but Dr.Gotschall's Dev. of Math has provided me with a great appreciation for the field of Mathematics and its founding fathers.

He is good to take over the summer. He can be a little direspectful at times. That is why you should take him during the summer. In all, he is not that bad. You can survive his class if you are taking development of math.

Take his class! There are 2 writing assignments and 2 tests are easy A's (or B's). He is a weird guy, but the class is SIMPLE and you don't acutally have to do any math!

His class is soooo boring. All you have to do is show up though. 2 writting assignments that he pretty much gives u the answers to and 2 exams.

I don't care what anyone has to say- he is gooood! Got to get to know the man- he is good INSIDE!!!

seems a little overbearing at first but he's not that bad. there is minimal work to do and tests/papers are fair if you studied/paid attention. you can get an "A" in this class even if you are horrible at math. showing up for class pays off!!!

Two papers where you have to answer five questions up to 200 words, final, and midterm. He has his own books: supplement and text. His lectures come straight from there, so it's easy. Don't talk back or be a wise guy or you'll be on his bad side.

One of the smartest men I may have met. An old school, no BS man, blunt but respectful. You might hate him while your there, but you will appreciate this guys pure mind if you've got one yourself. Worth it in the end

The test are hard!! be prepare to study. He is a good professor, he make look mean but he is a very nice intelligent man who has done many things for the university. I'ts a privilage to be part of his class.

Funny, smart, easy. Explains things multiple ways for confused students and provides excellent notes. Exams are piece of cake and written assignments aren't a big deal. He doesn't take any backtalk and he's tough, but he's very worth it. If you're scared of math, take him; he makes it clear.

gives extra points on ur final grade if ur absent less than 2 times, seats you in alphabetical order, 2 REALLY easy papers, the books he uses are really cheap, gives 10 extra points for midterm and 15 for final, hes a pain but hes the best professor at MSU for this course def take him (i got a A-)

his voice is fricken hysterical. His class is easy. you buy a book and basically read from it. its so easy. you have to be a tard to do bad. hes pretty cranky sometimes but i think its hysterical. take him if the class is big. he teaches differently in smaller classes so i dunno about that

He's a bit eccentric. I thought he was an ass at first, but really grew to like him. He took a lame subject and tied it into philosophy and every day life. Very interesting and very straight forward. Had him in his bigger class (70+ kids). Just sit normally & don't fall asleep. Take him!

easy A- or at least B+, 2 easy papers and midterm and final. 10 extra pts for midterm and 15 extra for final. extra pts if you miss less than 2 classes. he has loose skin on his chin so when he gets excited he shakes his head fast and the extra skin flaps around like a chicken, its very disturbing.

Gottschall is a rare breed.He's a an easy A/B.However, he rants for an hour about math,phylosophy,anything.He'll loose his cool and then apologize for twenty mintues.Papers are a breeze.Exams are pretty easy too.He can get very boring but his in between banter is baizzare but funny, in a strange way

This professor takes boring subject matter and applies it in a way that makes it interesting. I am not a math person, but Dr. G made the subject matter very tolerable, and at times, enjoyable. He's a little anal about some things, like seat assignments, but I would definitely recommend him.

This is the funniest and most rare man i've ever met in my life. So anal it's sick, but it's not a bad class, just do what he asks and you'll be fine. This is college people, you actually have to do something you bums!

Such a nice professor! Do the assignments exactly like he wants them done and it's an easy A. 2 tests--Midterm and Final. He can be funny and often goes off on tangents. Take him! The course is easy as long as you do what you're supposed to do.

Greatest professor at MSU. This was the first time in my life that someone taught Math in a way that I was able to fully comprehend. He has a gift. He is also an extremely accomplished man. Check out his credentials. Best of all he made us laugh everyday!

He was very weird, very anal, and methodical...but I liked him so much more than I thought I would at first.His lectures are duplicates of the book(which he wrote) or his book is a duplicate of his lectures...either way the class is pretty simple in the end.Basic effort will guarantee an "A".

In a big class (100+) he is very strict. He also comes off as rude sometimes, but this depends on his mood. 2 writing assignments (not bad), and 2 exams. A lot of material for the exams (30 T/F, 40MC), but there's a built in 10% curve. Overall he's not bad at all, but he certainly can get on your nerves...especially until you're used to him.

this professor is great..at first he comes off as mean but is really nice..never gives hw but you have 2 papers for the whole semester..easy though..he goes over the answers in class and doesnt grade you on whether your answer is right but grades you on your grammar..go figure..he is great and tries to be funny sometimes..just never be late to clas

He's very strict in the sense that he makes you sit in assigned alphebetical order and you have seat numbers, 2 writing assign, are easy he gives you the answers in class, can be boring- ony two tests, follow his crazy rules and you'll do fine

The class is boring! There's no question in that. However, if you pay attention, he clearly, and willingly, repeats himself in order for you to understand his lectures. He comes across as mean and nasty, but deep inside he is warm-hearted. The only thing you might hate is the fact that he alphabetizes all the seats. Oh well! I'd recommend him

very very easy class.. midterm and final and two easy papers about 4 pages each which he gives you the answers too and even tells you what pages to find the answers on.. yes, he is annoying and his classes are hard to sit through because he rambles and gets off topic but hey its an easy A as long as you pay attention what he goes over in class.

Incredibly boring lectures, attendance is taken everyday. He uses his own book that he wrote so he tells you what page everything is on. Papers are easy and the tests aren't too bad. Easy to pass. just dont get on his bad side.

He's a good professor, extremely boring subject but who can make math 103 interesting. Goes over things repetitively, if you take good notes youre guareenteed a B or better. Attendance is a must, missing 2 drops you a grade. Hes funny and at times goes off topic. Helpful and wants students to understand and know material to pass the class.

He is a sweetheart. He really cares about his students. I hate math overall but it wasn't so bad with him. He is very anal and never bring a computer to class!! He comes off mean and nasty but this is just act.

A very nice person, but very harsh in class due to high volume of students. Focuses mainly on the book - if you do exactly what he says, you'll get a good grade. Stay alert and don't stick out - he DOES pick favorites, and it's better for your grade if you're a no-name.

Before I took this class I hated math, but he made it easy and really interested. Attendance is mandatory. If you follow his directions you'll get an A. He also tells you everything he expects and explains everything really well, so this class is really easy and you learn a lot.

He is crazy but the work is very easy. 2 tests, 2 papers. He never lets class out early, he takes attendance very seriously but overall the class was good.

He is not bad at all! He's actually funny in all that he does to be "intentionally stern" with the class. All he asks is that you pay attention, study and get the writing assignments right. He likes precision! he's a lawyer what do you expect! He does not deserve bad ratings at all because he's not a creep.

Every time i go to this class i want to fall asleep, and i like math. the material is pointless and he's crazy, he can be funny at times, but only becuase you laugh at how ridiculous he is. the hardest thing about this class is staying awake as he reads his textbook word for word to you.

The class really isn't that bad. His methods are understandable considering the class has over 100 students. Since he wrote the book you use in class you know exactly what you need to learn, and before tests he goes through everything so you don't study what you don't need. Tests are straight forward and include extra credit. Easy B, work for A.

Crazy but in a good way, you will laugh alot in his class. ITs easy material, he makes you underline everything in the text, but anything underlined, is on the exams. other than that you only do 2 writing assignments. attenedence is required though. EASY CLASS!

ok, he isnt all that bad. he tells you what to highlight and what to remember... i really suggest you to study everything you learned once a week.. because it is ALOT of memorizing. the class is really boring though soo drink coffee! bring your book and it is mandatory to show up to class.. trust me.

Insane guy. Really quirky, really strange, incredibly strict. Pretends to be hard and tough(because there are a lot of kids) but he is approachable and helpful! Yells at his students, but knows his subject VERY WELL and is a very likeable guy towards the end. Extremely entertaining...Midterm, Final, 2 papers. FOLLOW THE RUBRIC FOR THE PAPERS !!!

Many think he is insane/hard. The class may be extremely boring, yet it can be interesting at times. He does scream, but I have learned quite a bit from his book. I doze off on many occassions, but I aced the papers, midterm and final. It was overall a good experience.

This class is really easy, its not that bad. Just right the papers in his format, which 10% of your grade and just do good on the exams. The exams are not so bad, just study from his lectures and the book. you will pass. He's not as bad as people make him out to be. Don't be afraid of him and just take him. He may sound mean, but he's not.

I think he's hysterical .. he keeps the class entertained while teaching which is great! I like him a lot :) He has good energy. He is also intelligent as well!

Class is actually fun. He teases alot and he's a really funny guy. He makes the development of math alot of fun to learn. I honestly cannot believe the reviews at rate my professors for this professor. He is so nice!!! even speaking to him in person he's great and totally understanding. He only gives 2 essays and 2 exams. I reccomend him to anyone.

i would recommend this class. There are 2 small writing assignments, 1 midterm, and 1 final.. THAT'S IT! if you are a good listener you'll do fine. the downside is that each writing assignment counts twice and each midterm and final counts 4 times. so if you mess up on one assignment your screwed. he offers minimal to no extra credit.

THis is the easiest Math class you'll take. Must have text book. Outlines questions topics for exam so make it easy. Exams multiple choice and true and false. Professor very nice and understanding. Attendance is required. Easy A

First Impression: This guy is a nut! On the first day of class he began teaching, and nobody even had the book. He makes everyone move to the front of the class, and he's extremely anal about the little things (like stapling your papers). But, he's also extremely caring and helpful. Good Professor, but you need patience to take his class.

Gottschall is a little off when it comes to social conduct but he knows a lot about his subject. He is rude to students with questions during class but is helpful when you come to him outside of class. Deducts a full letter grade for every absence after your first.

At first he seems like he's going to be tough but he really isn't. He's actually a very sweet man! He might go off topic at times but the subject is SO easy that you won't feel really lost. Also, you have to have patience in order to take his class. But other than that, his class is easy. He gives: 2 writing assignments and 3 chapter tests! EASY!

I'm an alumni of Montclair State,and I had Dr. Gotschall for Calc 1 and MAth for Bus I.He is awesome!I aced both classes and learned so much.You just need to get used to his quirkiness. He is very, very fair and if you work hard,you will do well.He also has a great sense of humour-just gotta catch him at the right time. Can still hear his laugh!
