Excellent professor, especially for African-American studies.
Carl is a cool dude, but he's too focused on spreading his liberal politics. Hey, I'm a commie, but when I take American Government, I'm wanting the hard facts and theory about American Government. He slacks and strays.
He was late all the time and his lectures were not very clear. Went off on a lot of random tangents.
His lectures generally had nothing to do with anything, and he would get horribly off topic and tell us stories about lizards and things. He seemed to teach more of his opinion than of concepts and would spout conspiracy theories. Hated his class.
I loved this Prof! He got me into poltical science and made coming to class fun. yes, he can be very off topic... but i truly enjoyed a government class i took for HS and college credit during my days in RS. He's greatly encourages women to Pol Sci major
horrible
I hardly went to class, but still got a 2.6. This class was pretty mediocore, but not horrible. He was pretty funny, and very liberal.
Very dedicated to educational success of students; and very knowledgeable.
Livingston is an excellent teacher has a dynamic style of teaching. He does follow text! His opinion offends those who come to class with their closed minded, prejudice attitudes. 90% of the class was Caucasian and they were intimidated by a strong black man. Get off his back! Excellent teacher.
Great teacher. And to the person who said whites are intimidated by strong black teachers, GET OFF YOUR OWN BACK! Did you learn nothing? This guy is great and some willing to debate with his students. That's very cool!
Livingston is an amazing professor, probably one of the best I've had at Central. He really knows his stuff, is excited about it, and sets up the class in a way that is both engaging and entertaining. Plus, he tells you EXACTLY what to know for tests and assignments. Who can complain?
I DR. LIVINGSTON is a great teacher, super funny a little late but all in all he is wonderful and full of information. TAKE HIM AND YOU WILL LEARN AND LAUGH
A smart man, but teaches his opinion more than facts and tends to ramble on about the same story time after time, rather than getting to the point. In one of his classes, we actually were 4 weeks behind and had a take-home midterm and brought food for our final "exam". :-(
If you are interested in political science he is a very good teacher. He cares most about getting work turned in, then bugs you about the quality later. Ask for the Lizard Story.
mr. livingston has such a passion for his subject. i took 3 of his classes at seattle central... not only is he brilliant, but his enthusiasm for politics is contagious.
Loves his subject - the best pol teacher at SCCC Great readings. He is always late and rambles a lot but it's worth it
I think mr. livingston is a great teacher and an upstanding man. He really encouraged students to engage in the material and had a strong passion for his subject! My only criticism is that he tends to baby the classes and handhold a little too much.
Good guy, doesnt communicate well. Tests very unclear. Take him for an easy A, avoid him to learn anything. Don't buy the book. He only uses it for the consitution.

He is by far the most unorganized, most unprofessional teacher I've ever had. He doesn't lecture but rather preaches like we're in a church. He doens't talk about the topics of the class but when he does, its takes him weeks to get finished. He is the most horrible teacher and if you really are interested in learning and not just passing a class, d

nice guy, very smart and understanding.

Mr. Livingston was an amazing teacher. His assignments were helpful in understanding the concepts of politics. His lectures were invigorating and actually woke me up at 8:00 in the morning. His teaching style is superb. I highly reccomend taking any class he teaches
Class was alright. He is fairly easy. Group discussions suck. Makes lots of jokes. Funny guy.
The Runin' Man!!!
he is at least 10 to 15 minutes late every day, this was a huge waste of time, i want my money back
Yes, he's always late. Yes, his lectures ramble to "blackness". Yes, his midterm is an essay bear. Yes, you have to write a term paper. But, yes, I learned from him. In a classroom of 30 or so, only five of us actively participated in class and I'll be we all got an "A". Read the text, do the weekly discussion questions and participate for an "A".
I took two Political Science classes from him at SCCC. I thought he was great! He understands politics and government very well, and his lectures were always fun. The terms papers in both classes were hard, but he is a very fair grader. He even took time to counsel me on my career choices, and encouraged me to go into law. Fastastic teacher!
Amazing professor. Passionate about his subject. Raises good questions and exposes students to interesting alt-mainstream issues. Amusing as well. Could be more efficient in creating a better class dialogue, lots of quiet students.
adds entertainment and passion into what he teaches. you can tell he cares about his students as much as his beliefs. frequently gets off topic- partly due to people being uninterested in the subject/not actually THINKING about wholesome information. you do not want to pass the opportunity with him even if he's late often; but you can be too. :)
EXTREMELY liberal professor. Just rambles randomly for 30 mins of the class daily. The other 10 mins is reserved for "group discussion". You don't learn political science as much as you are indoctrinated by his personal views. Take for an easy A. If you actually want to learn, stay away. However, he is very nice, well-meaning, and quite hilarious.
This guy is a BAD teacher. He showed up 10 minutes late to class EVERYDAY! Then, he would crack jokes for about 30 minutes. The last 7 or 8 minutes, he would put up an overhead projection and ramble incoherently through a long list of terms. During group discussions, he would grade papers, but pretend to listen with an occasional grunt or nod.
Great proffesor. Always passionate and interesting. Lots of different teaching styles incorporated throughout the week. A thoroughly enjoyable class!
Carl was a WONDERFUL teacher. I learned a LOT from his class and he made it really interesting and fun. He's pretty funny and very helpful. All those other people who gave him a bad grade and said mean stuff about him are just haters and don't want to face the truth in society and instead consider what he's saying a personal attack.
Good!
honestly he is a nice guy and is very funny indeed. hes 10 minutes late everyday so he can get coffee. he also keeps you no less than 5 minutes past the end becuase he crams information since he spends the first half hour joking around. truthfully i didnt learn a lot.. but i was hoping for an easy and fun class and thats what i got :)
I liked him. He does waste a lot of time by being late and rambling. Plus the group discussions are a joke and the videos are boring. But, he's an awesome guy and the class is easy. If you do the work, you can actually learn a lot, too.
Meh, he's alright.
If your a boring, stuck up loser, don't take his class. But if you can respect a seriously cool, smart guy then Livingston's your man. His **** suits might weird you out for the first few days . But after a week or so you'll realize he's the only guy on earth who looks at home in baby blue polyester.
He is at least 5-7 minutes late EVERYDAY! His class is easy and he basically holds your hand through writing the required papers.. Awesome guy constantly making lame jokes.. Easy A if you do the work and show your interested..
I thought he was rad. Late? yes. Lots of jokes? yes. At the times he did get serious he really made you think. I learned a lot. One of the only classe in two years at SCC that I looked forward to going to daily. Show respect and don't text. It sucks when he has to stop class to explain to idiot students why its rude to be on your phone.
This was one of the worst prfessors I have ever had @ central. He shows up late everyday & lets you out late, he's very boring so your other option is to txt on your phone. If this course waz not a high school requirement I would have never taken this course....
Nice Professor. Very helpful.
He has no tolerance for disrespect in the classroom. he is Brilliant and teaches controversial things! he loves his students and wants them to suceed. Recommend prior Polysci knowledge, he does follow a linear progression, but it is hard to follow at first. Great man with a lot to give! I loved him.
He was always late, but he's a good teacher. he allows you to turn in assignments up to the last day, but that may not be helpful if you're a procrastinator like myslef
Worst teacher I've ever had. He showed up extremely late for class. His assignments were unclear. He gave very unstructured lectures; what he covered was irrelevant. He is extremely neurotic with student behavior--so much so that we spent most of the cIass learning about what ticked him off and not learning anything about Political Science. Bad!
The most difficult thing about this class was trying to make sense of the professor's ineptitude.
ok, i really dont know what any of these people are talking about!! Livingston is THE BEST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. He is so funny, every single class i was almost crying from laughing so hard. If you ever get a chance TAKE HIS CLASS. who gives a damn if he's late!! Such good memories from that class. HE IS AWESOME
Fun class, didn't learn too much though. Tests are harder than you think they would be.
Entertaining. but only teaches maybe 20 minutes out of a 50 minute class.
Livingston was not on time for class a single day. walks in around 10 after every day (missing 20% of his own class every single day) Lectures are random and not structured at all (YOUR MIND WILL WANDER, WARNING WARNING WARNING!!!!)overall, if you would like to learn anything from college, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!
Extremely knowledgeable and good natured. A really good teacher, very smart. You can tell Political Science is his passion. His lectures are interesting and he keeps class engaged. He also responds well to criticism, even if being provoked. A little late everyday, but I didn't mind. Makes funny jokes too and likes to reference rap songs. Very funny
Livingston is the man. He came to class late everyday to go get his peets coffee down the street but was always funny. I don't remember learning anything but I still aced the class with a 3.8 He makes it insanely easy to pass but has 0 tolerance for talking and will call you out.Yes he will call you outside and will yell out u in front of the class
Nice guy, but easily sidetracked. Be prepared to teach yourself, as he will only get around to it once in a blue moon. The tests are a rude awakening. He is of the "cramming" school of thought: He'll play around for a month, then "review" (read: tell you what you're going to need to teach yourself that night) intensively for a day, then test. OMG.
Great professor. He comes a little with his Pete's coffee and he gets easily side tracked but he gets his point across in using real world examples, compares it to your parents and grand parents, girlfriends and boyfriends and that's what makes it worth it and understandable. The midterm and final are from his lectures and very easy. Would recommend him anytime.
One hilarious teacher. He would make an excellent stand-up comedian. Very knowledgeable about Political Science and History. Has slight tendency to pick on quieter students, but it's all good-hearted. If you don't like Black Stand-Up Comedy, don't take any class from him
Livingston is the bomb. My favorite professor by far. Really fun class, always funny!
the material he teaches is amazing! was never really interested in political economics but wanted to take it for fun. he is really funny and makes class fun but beware... he comes in 10 mins late everyday..takes roll that takes 10 to 15 mins...teaches for about 10 mins and jokes for the remainder of the class...
I took politics American Gov. from him. I thought he was a fun teacher although it's hard to pay attention because he does get sidetracked during his lectures. His exams are average.. I never really read the reading requirement . I would recommend him to anyone
He is a terrible teacher. For one he shows up late almost everyday and is easily sidetracked by conversations unrelated to class, he can be very inappropriate, and has extreme mysogony. He is easily distracted and distracts the class. And refuses to take students seriously as college adults and his comments like "lie like women do" is the beginning
Teacher not consistence with his grading. Lateee everyday. Give confusing instruction. Doesn't have a lot to teach, often sidetracked to Dumb joke, and often inappropriate. Hard to fail in his class.
I took two classes back to back with him. Four words: Breath of fresh Air! Since the fall I had worse and worse Political Science professors. Then I got in Livingston's class and I was blown away by how relaxed his style was. He challenges you, but is also your friend. Don't take yourself too seriously, you're there to learn and have fun.
He is a great teacher that makes boring politics into a fun subject. I have laughed a lot in his class.
I only took his class because it's a graduation requirement. I would not recommend any of his classes if you are truly passionate about American Gov't. He lays everything out for you so well you barely even have to attend, just turn in all the assignments with his specific requirements (word length, # of cites) and you're good to go!
Never have I felt as if a professor cared so little for the actual minds of his students as I did when attending Livingston's course. What he considers teaching, most others consider catering to the lowest common denominator and contributing to the laughing stock that is the modern American education system. You're better off staying in bed.
Professor Livingston is passionate about what he teaches, and teaches for the right reasons. I dreaded taking a required American Government class, but having him as a professor completely changed my experience; his class was one of my top two classes of all time. He is interested in and supportive of students and sincere about the subjectmatter.
This teacher is often late. He is unclear and easily sidetracked. "MAN...don't believe what they say on the internet..." Believe. Don't take his classes.
Late every morning to his 8am class. He's really funny and crack a lot of corny jokes during his lectures. His class was easy, could get at least a 3.5 with just coming to class everyday and pay attention in class. Group discussion does help. If u are serious about law studies I suggest u look for someone else
Very interesting, inspirational, and funny. He is not very well organized, but is also easy in terms of grading, so it isn't frustrating. He teaches in many different ways, and will make political science interesting to anyone.
I will state here and now. He's really not that good. He doesn't have a lot of his facts straight. He exaggerates events. He's a history major, but you'd never guess that. Taking notes is pointless because he changes the power points while you're writing. He's suppose to be preparing us for the University level, but goes off on pointless rants.
Very funny professor, very personable, encourages participation in class. Extremely easy class. Skimmed through readings, attended class less than half the time.
Some interesting class discussions. He does have a strong sense of humor throughout classes. It was an easy-A+ for me. I showed up everyday and turned in homework. Nice guy.
Livingston has made Am. Gov. my favorite class. He has a great sense of humor and I feel as though I can ask him about anything. As long as you do the weekly papers(350+ words) you'll do fine in his class. I love Livingston, the best teacher I've had at Central. Definitely taking him again!
Livingston was a very hilarious teacher but sometimes his constant joking got in the way of teaching. I had a great experience in his class though and he truly cared about his students. If you need to ask questions he is there for you. Just do your weekly papers and your research paper! Come to class daily because he takes attendance. Funny man!
No doubt Livingston is a funny man. It's so easy a class that sometimes you don't have to understand the text. If you're just looking for a easy A, he's your right guy. But the class itself is not very interesting besides his humor.
Livingston is a horrible professor. He makes the dumbest jokes that are not funny and some are quite inappropriate. The group discussions are no help at all. Half the class is him going off topic. I barely learned a thing from him. I am thankful for the textbook because that was the only thing helping me through the tests. Easy A, horrible teacher
Good professor. He gets off topic often but his assignments help you learn so you can contribute to class discussion. Easy A if you participate in the class and assignments. I really enjoyed his class.
Great prof and a very interesting class. Make sure you contribute to discussion, complete weekly papers, complete supplementary readings and study for exams. If you stay on top of your work then you will get the grade you deserve. The prof is understanding and gives a lot of good information.
Horrible professor. I took political science with him and it was really unfortunate because I was looking forward to learning the material. He's late every day and spends half the class making stupid jokes and the other half going off topic/ preaching. Grateful for a good textbook because that is the only place you'll learn anything.
waste of time. he's hands down the worst professor at seattle central. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. late every day and provides little to no clarity on the research paper that is a quarter of your grade. I learned nothing and am bothered by the fact that I wasted an entire quarter taking his class. just to reiterate, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I am appalled that anyone would ever not like Livingston. He is the most inspirational, knowledgeable man at Seattle Central. He is my favorite teacher and made classes that I needed to take for my major very interesting. If you do not develop a relationship with him, you probably won't like him and you won't have a great experience in the class.
Hardly learned anything from him but only the textbook. Thinks he is funny and smart. Exam is somewhat confusing. He is probably the worst instructor I took class from at SCCC.
I took this class and absolutely loved it! Professor Livingston did a great job teaching the class and making people understand the way modern American Capitalism works. He requires a weekly paper that is only 350+ words. If you sit down, read and take your time, they will begin to get easier and easier. What an awesome guy! Thank you!
He is a good teacher, he really helped me with the extra credit opportunity, but also he was alway available if I needed help.
One of the worst classes I have ever taken. The text book is good but the class discussions are basically him ranting about black history even if it dosnt relate to politics. If you are only looking for an easy credit then take this class but if you are interested in leaning ANYTHING then save yourself the trouble.
Say what you will about his quirks- Livingston knows his stuff. He really appreciates extra effort from students, and your grade will benefit from being interested and involved. He does have a tendency to stray from the subject material, but his tangents are always interesting. He is very accommodating, and makes it easy to do well in his class.
Professor Carl Livingston is a passionate educator and he will not allow you to leave the classroom until you understand the lecture. Political Science made by him is an easy lecture, you'll make few friends too. I recommend it.
He gets distracted easily and goes on tangents but very educated. If you are listening you'll learn alot.
Carl Livingston was great. He let the class lead a lot and thought it more important that we were learning than following a schedule. you will love him if you take him.
He's late every day, preaches to the class, talks over students when he doesn't like their opinion during opinion related discussions. None the less, super easy A, he definitely doesn't read your papers, which is hilarious because he makes a point of saying he does so at the start of class. He only checks work to see if you have the requirements.
Carl Livingstone represents what true teaching is all about . I learned so much from this man , he's not just a great teacher but a wonderful human being . I would recommend any student specifically freshman to take his class and learn more about life and how the system really works , and you might get a few laughs in here and there as well .
Livingston is a really nice guy, and an awesome teacher. He is very funny but also informative and wise. My only complaint is that he is a little disorganized. Otherwise I really liked him. He is very knowledgeable.
Dr. Livingston is an easy professor. All you need to do is show-up, submit homework, and do the exams. There are tons of extra credits for you to do, so don't worry about messing up one or two of your exams.
Lazy and unfair professor, he is always late 5 to 7 min to class, and he wont gave you the grade that you deserve for sure. half the time of the class will be him making jokes, or talk about unrelated things. So do think that you will benefit or learn a lot from the class :)
I had him for American Government and I am a Running Start student and I know a lot of high school students will take this class and wont even have a choice because he's the only instructor . He is funny relaxed and LOVES questions. Gives lots of extra credit no joke and the only problem is hes late for class but gives you gives answers on test if
One of my favorite teachers at Seattle Central. Was always accessible when ever needed. Not a very tough grader, offers a lot of extra credit. Would take him again any time!
Going into this class, I was looking forward to it. I wanted to learn more about the government. That didn't happen. I didn't learn anything. It was easily one of the worst classes I have ever taken. Livingston never stays on topic and falls farther behind every day. I do not recommend this class.
I love Carl. Great, funny guy! Maybe not course wise? I did leave with more knowledge though. Easy A if you turn in things on time, such as weekly papers, research paper. In this class, you need to rely on yourself for the most part to get the most out of this class. Would take Livingston again though, he does know his stuff!
I got a good grade but learned nothing in this class. Couldn't take seriously. I would take a different teacher if I were to do it again.
I loved this guy. You can tell that he knows what he's talking about (even though he tends to go off on tangents sometimes). This class was especially useful during the 2016 election, and I learned so much from him. Take his classes!
He is a somewhat funny professor that is in tune with pop culture and contemporary issues affecting all demographic groups. However, he can be condescending and aloof when interacting with students (not learning any student's names over the quarter). He is very unorganized, and the syllabus inaccurate. Overall, it was maddening and disappointing.
Hard to take him serious because all he does is crack jokes. Got mad at the class middle of the quarter b/c we weren't taking him seriously when he set himself up for it in the beginning. First week, all he did was make jokes and get behind on lectures. He even interrupts students to make a joke. Easy A though, just do the weekly essays.
Let's just say I'm pretty sure he has tenure. He often shows up late or unlocks the door and leaves for 10 minutes. Although, he's incredibly hilarious and the time you do get in class proves to be very entertaining and informative. He's very fair and everything is pretty much done in the student's favor. He encourages group discussion.
He is a total bro and is real funny but he can be a bit scattered.
He is a really nice teacher, who has patient and makes funny joke (sometime is not funny at all lol). I learned some basic policy from the class. It's quite ok, but the time is so early(8am). He almost late fo every single day, but he gives extra credit for apologize. * If you do work, you get good great!
If u want to learn dont take this class, its easy 4.0 but learn nothing.
He is a really understanding guy, gives flexible dates for assignments, papers, even exams. Knows what he's talking about though he does gets sidetracked often. He is also up to date with recent events and pop culture. Really interesting class though. He also wears pretty dope jordans and adidas.
you will have a trouble if you take his class. Awful -_-
Professor Livingston is a very caring and respected teacher. His class was easy and it was fairly informative, but I have to say that I couldnt handle his endless jokes and puns in the morning. However, Im glad I took his class, but Im also really glad Im finished with it.
If you want to learn anything, find another professor. If you dont care take this class. Show up, do the work you'll get an A.
Makes the class a light environment, cracks a ridiculous amount of stupid jokes. Its pretty hard to learn from his tecahing style. He gives a lot of extra credit, so anyone can get an A.
Incredibly unclear about what is due, when and what he wants from you. Consistently two weeks behind in class schedule. Almost never actually teaches the content, then expects you to know it on a test. Gives you clues to a bunch of the questions the Friday before class and lets you correct. Attendance isn't graded and nothing is important in class.
Unclear professor. Only likes to talk about himself. Only take if you want easy A, not if you want to learn anything.
Livingston is a really complex guy. A comedian at heart, you can tell that there's been a lot of pain in his life (which he brings up in class) that weighs on him. It makes him easily misunderstood; people say he's a bad teacher, but he really knows his stuff! He's just sensitive and could be better about balancing his teaching with his emotions.
Couldn't have said it any better after reading these other reviews - took Intro to Poli Sci because it was a weak point for me, I left this class more confused about politics than when I went in. Did not learn a thing. Very easy A though. He's confused and behind on what we're doing and when things are due CONSTANTLY. Nice guy, keeps the mood light
If i had been graded according to his actual grading scheme I would have failed. I got an A. Good teacher if you're in running start and need the credit, otherwise....
Very light class. As long as you do the assignments you should be fine, most of your learning will come from the textbook. Livingston is a very nice guy and likes to focus on current news that students like to engage in.
Really good teacher. The way he explains the law and also makes it easier for you to understand is really nice. He's always cracking jokes, really kind professor.
Reading other comments might make you feel he's average but that's not the case. Because he has experienced so many things in his life, he can understand your struggles and can accommodate you. He is funny and will try to light up your day. He's slow on grading because he grades one assignment several times to give you the best you deserve.
Carl Livingston is one of the greatest professor that I met. He is hilarious, funny and friendly. He does not give you any stress, his class is fun to attend and overall, the class and teacher is very good. Definitely won't regret it if you are attending his course. One of the finest teacher I ever met. 100 times recommended.
beware: he grades HARSH. literally. probably the harshest grader Ive ever come across. he is known for docking point for such minimum errors such as a comma, parenthesis, italicizing, past tense usage, and so much more!!!!
One of the worst profs I've ever had. He devoted most of class time to making jokes which were more often than not very sexists/homophobic/ect. Class was mandatory, but you were lucky if politics were even mentioned once in a session. None of the coursework was useful, his grading was more focused on grammar than substance. Such an awful experience
Great guy, not so great teacher. Talks if you already know what he's talking about. Has trouble explaining the basics of the government and assumes you everything. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Even if you think they're dumb. Though he still doesn't answer well. He definitely doesn't assume you're here to learn, he assumes you already know.
This class wasn't hard as long as you read the textbook. The first chapter was very confusing and hard, but then it gets easier. The professor is very nice, and he provides feedback to improve in the assignments. In this class you will learn many useful concepts.
Overall, Professor Livingston is a good teacher. There are weekly papers that you'll have to do, but they're based off of the textbook and easy to write. For his lectures, he relied heavily on the textbook and videos made by the textbook author. The only downside is that he grades really slow and he is nit-picky about grammar and syntax on papers.
My experience with Professor Livingston was not great. Quizzes were constantly pushed back which made the curriculum confusing. At the end of the quarter Carl incentivized students to share stories of their hardships for extra credit. Would not recommend.
Im not sure why Carl has so many negative ratings. This class was by far one of my favorite classes here at Seattle Central! The criteria is simple and easy to follow. There is a paper each week and a quiz. The paper is short (a page), and based off the textbook. There is a bit of reading (30 pages a week) but that is normal for college courses.
Carl, Carl, Carl. One of the most ambiguous and all over the place teachers I have ever had. His instructions were beyond confusing and when I asked for clarity he said "Just make your paper like mine and you'll get an A". Gives lots of extra credit so getting a good grade is easy. Expect to be confused by his expectations. Overall, an easy A.
Took his class in spring 2021. Weekly writings and quizzes but Just watch his weekly videos. He will tell you exactly what to write and I got easy A for the writing assignments. He gives a lot of extra credits which is good.
Hands down the worst instructor I've ever had. Super confusing grading criteria, disorganized lectures, horrible sense of humor, slow grader, always late to class, always trying to prove to students he is more knowledgeable than them. Do not take this class if you want to learn something. Easy A+ but I feel like lose brain cells after every class
Theres 1-2 quizzes each week (5 questions and 12 mins) theyre all from the textbook so make sure to read! Also theres a weekly paper (about 350 words). Hes strict on citing and will take points away because of it. Theres only 1 major assignment paper. A lot of extra credit. Easy A class!
As a student, you will receive a(n) A-grade in this class if you read the text book. Quiz are due by weekly and HAVE to be done on time or you will get a zero. There will also be weekly papers that go over that individual chapter for the week or previous week's reading. Overall, the only thing to worry about is the research final.
Great lectures! It is clear he genuinely cares about students and is open to everyone's perspective/political opinions. Weekly papers are easy to write if you listen to his lectures and he gives chances to improve your grades. Offers extra credit. He knows his stuff and you will learn a lot from him.
Livingston was consistently late to class, would spend most of the time talking about whatever he wanted and then put on a video. Despite his complete lack of actual teaching, he has 1-2 quizzes and a paper a week and a research essay. His grading criteria are completely unintelligible and he makes zero effort to clarify them. A horrible experience
instead of discussions you do weekly 350+ character essays on the weekly chapter. he takes very long to respond and to grade and is also very condescending with his feedback. he grades grammar better than an english professor. other than that the class is an easy A+
My experience with Livingston was... frustrating. If you can survive his incomprehensible lectures, the class is pretty easy. There are weekly essays plus a "final research paper" that he inexplicably made due in the middle of the quarter. His grading policy is so soft that as long as you get all your essays in by end of quarter, you'll get an A.
Overall this class was pretty standard. Lectures were long and sometimes wouldn't get to the point quickly or even address what was on the agenda for the day. Takes a long time to grade so getting relevant feedback is difficult. Not a difficult class but not exactly easy either.
I don't understand why people are leaving negative comments however He is one of the best teachers you will learn so much if you pay attention to what he says. He definitely teaches from his heart and has lots of experiences that will help you not only in school but in your path in life. The class is not difficult and many ways to get extra credit
Mr. Livingston was OK. He has 10 weekly papers and multiple quizzes due each week. He is consistently late to class, takes attendance randomly during class, and won't mark you there if you come in after he does so. Really picky about grammar and citations even if you follow his sample weekly paper exactly.
Mr. Livingston is a pretty cool dude. He was pretty lenient with deadlines. No attendance was required, but this was an online course. Workload was about 3 hours a week, but the final research paper took me about 30 hours to write. I'm sure one could do it within less than 10 hours though. Pretty easy class, and an easy A.
Carl Livingston has to be hands down one of the worst professors at central. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He does not grade based on content, only on what his speed grader tells him too. So disorganized and always a month late on grading. SO unclear and always on a tangent in class.
always 15 minutes late to class every single time, talks about topics not related to the class or important for POLS202. talks too much about other things he has going on in life like his book or grading. talks over students when trying to ask questions as he is not clear with instructions at all.
teacher sucks. constantly going on tangents, does not know how to teach and just blabbers on. Useless class.
incredibly condescending and refuses to listen to anything that anyone says. I feel like he just does this job for an ego boost and to tell people that they're wrong. constantly speaks over anyone that asks a question and treats the classroom like a prison. horrible grading system, he doesn't even grade the content, just the "mistakes" you make.
He is currently 5 weeks behind grading my one-page paper which makes it so I can't make edits to my paper, even though I turned it in on time, he's just a REALLY slow grader. He takes so many points away only because of small grammar mistakes, not even anything wrong with the actual writing. Other than that quiz and papers are easy to do.
Seems like he doesn't want to be a teacher anymore, but his class is pretty easy. The only thing he seems to grade on is grammar, not the actual material. The lectures can be painful and boring, but honestly not that bad. I think he is a pretty nice guy and gives out lots of extra credit options.
Easy class. Async, online meetings not req; watch recordings at your pace. 15 quizzes with Googleable answers. 10 papers, 350 words; extra credit for longer. only grades on grammar; use Grammarly. retake only for first 2 papers. Final paper, 6 pages, req. non-textbook sources. go to last online meeting for free extra cred. Get textbook from Libgen.
I took his pols202 class and his grades were based off of grammar and writing. I would say he's almost an English teacher more than a political science teacher. Zoom meetings twice a week. One essay 6+ pgs. Doesn't give much time to get it done. Quizzes every week 5 questions. You'll pass the class as long as you know how to write.
I love Prof Livingston even though his course was kind of my personal hell. Great teacher, slow to respond to messages though. There are weekly papers (350 words) and lots of assigned reading, but overall fun class and I enjoyed it. If you procrastinate get ready to struggle.
I'm currently taking his class and oh my god he is one of the worst professors I've ever had. I was extremely sick for a week and got a note excusing me, which he accommodated, but would ridicule me when I asked for help. So much work. Hes so full of himself, and accused me of saying things I didn't. Refused to answer questions clearly.
Prof Livingston's class is a mixed bag - lectures can be dull, but the workload is manageable. The quizzes and papers are easy with the help of resources like unstuck ai. Worth taking if you don't mind the occasional tardiness.
Professor Livingston knows what he's doing and it's incredibly easy to get an A, just follow his guidelines. Theres a quiz for every chapter of the textbook and a weekly paper, ending with a research paper. Papers have rubrics, follow them and you'll get an A each time. Easy A, just wished there was a variety in assignments. Good class overall!
a lot of reading, and a hard grader on the format or grammar. Overall he's understanding and funny
on one assignment i sent he told me view the comment he made on my paper to see what i need to be fixed so that it can keep him from wasting the time he puts in. that comment stuck with me for 2 whole years. i never sent in a assignment after that. clearly he lacks respect for his students
This teacher was so amazing! He was so funny, and his lectures were a joy to listen to. He is very flexible with extra credit and makes everything super easy. His response time is fast and his work is very routine and simple. I would 100% take his class again you should definitely take this class!
He is so kind!!! I would take his class again. His lectures are so fun and he is very funny. He gives a lot of extra credit and he's an amazing teacher.
He is extremely strict about how he wants your essays written to the point where you have no creative freedom. The instructions are confusing and not clearly written. He has no mercy for the slightest mistake. He puts no effort into the class, the textbook is your teacher. Takes forever to grade. Your education is only his passive income.
Nicest professor ever. Give his classes a chance.
Repetitive assignments graded entirely on grammar. Very slow to grade or give feedback. Felt more like an English course than Political Science.
The professor grades on grammar and expects students to already know how to write. It can be hard for students who need repeat. If you struggle with writing, grammar, or need more guidance, be prepared to work hard or visit the Writing Lab. This class might be more difficult for students who are neurodivergent or do not have English 101 experience.
Any actual teaching is done on zoom and the lectures are an hour of him talking about anything he feels like and maybe showing a video, then gets upset when the students arent engaged. One time he spent 10 minutes talking about OnlyFans. And don't get me started on the weekly papers, each week you have to write 350+ words regurgitated from the book
I had ups and downs with Professor Livingston at first. He seemed strict before and he expected good grammar, no noise, and full attention. But I later realized he truly cares. He says nice words, encouraging things wants students to succeed. He's not mean, he is just passionate about helping us grow. He gives us extra credit opportunities.
His textbook and class topics are interesting and enjoyable to learn. He gives extra credit chances, which really help. He cares and helpful to his students, and he is fun to talk to. He really wants us to succeed and makes the class feel meaningful.
I like that Professor Livingston gives us chances to do in-class discussions where we choose a side and sit in a circle to share our views. It makes learning fun and engaging. He also gives extra credit if we choose to participate more, which is really motivational. There is no stressful hard tests. There is no stressful memorization.
Professor Livingston is understanding. He lets us eat or drink in class to help us have energy, and he allows us to look things up while learning and tools. If we try to participate in discussions but feel awkward, he doesn't take off points. He just wants us to learn and succeed. He say alot of good informative facts.
I had this professor twice, that was totally my fault. I wasn't doing my work and I thought his class was really hard in the beginning but it wasn't you just need to be engaged and work will fly by. His lectures are really great and interesting. He's very understanding. if you explain your situation he will give extra credit.A lot of writing though
This professor give us extra credit opportunities. He say nice stuff to student and give them a shout out if they do good. He cheers for them so they can improve. He gives good feedback.
He was always late to the zoom meetings, is always taking tons of points off for either a grammar mistake. He always talks about random stuff during the zoom meeting and not actual work and alwayssss grades so so soooo slow. The quizzes are easy, final paper is 6+ pages, will grade you on grammar and not the actual material.
