Very enthusiastic teacher, used real-life examples of his own or celebrity lawsuits, which made the material stick better to memory. Uses study guides, and offers plenty of office hours and some extra credit. Knows his stuff very well, and if you don't think a question is fair on his tests, he will give you credit/change the test if you prove why!
this guy is boring, he keeps showing off about himself and how many cases he has won, his lectures are not well prepared and so he lectures through the book which might be because he is still praticing law in the morning. his tests are hard, he expects you to know everything in the book + his lecture notes from another teacher. I got a B.
This class is very hard. Even though I am getting an A, it was hard to get it. You need to know everything in the book and he does always talk about his personal life. You have to show up everyday though. Good Luck, take James Stalter, he is way easier and better.
He was a great teacher...all you have to do is listen to his lecture and study his handout..if you study that you will do fine on the tests. He makes class enjoyable and as others mentioned he does talk about himself but I didn't think of it as a negative but rather helpful that he provide cases to correlate the book with real life examples.
I thought that this was a very enjoyable class. Carl was engaging and very helpful. He talks about his life because his life IS law and has had a great career. I definitely learned a lot from him. It is always great to have a professor who isn't afraid tell us a little about himself. Great guy.
He does a good job relating the class to real world exampes he has had. The last test was pretty hard. Read the chapter before you go to class. It will help tremendously. Make sure you know what you are doing for your paper and talked to him to specify guidelines. Overall Carl is a great professor and I learned alot about small business law.
Mr. Pentis is a very caring online instrctor. He always says,"I can't help if you don't ask". He is helpful if you don't understand something. He is very personable and I feel this trait is important as an instructor. The work was not easy but it was easy having Mr. Pentis as a instructor. You would not be disappointed having him as your instructor
He is not the hardest professor, but I alway learn a lot from his classes.
This was the best online class I have ever taken! I advse everyone to take his class, you won't regret it.
Great teacher, and he knows this subject like the back of his hand. Read the cases prior to class and the hand-outs. You will do fine.
Carl was one of the best professors I have ever had. His classes were extremely engaging and I found myself interested in a subject I had very little interest in when the class started. I would definitely recommend him.
Very engaging class as well as amusing. topnotch knowledge and communication of the subject matter
Carl's helpfulness is very overwhelming. He is always willing to adjust to your learning needs. He is so approachable and easy to communicate with. He is never intimidating, although very much equipped with the subject matter. I highly recommend Carl if you want to have fun and learn at the same time!
he's a knowledgeable and devoted teacher. I hightly recommend you to choose his class so that you will see law lessons are interesting
Highly recommend! Engaging, fun, and helpful. Finally, a professor that wants to see students learn! Be prepared to participate.
Prof. Carl is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced in the field of law which becomes very evident during the class case discussions. He is very helpful and approachable. I highly recommend anyone taking MGMT 518 at CSUF to take it under Prof Carl. You would learn and also enjoy the class for sure. # 20
Prof. Carl is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced in the field of law. His effort for knowing the student on one to one basis is highly appreciated He is very helpful and approachable. I highly recommend anyone taking MGMT 518 at CSUF to take it under Prof Carl. You would learn and also enjoy the class for sure. # 20
Carl demonstrates a real zest for the subject material and will get you involved in class discussions. He may seem intimidating at first, but the experience he shares helps make the material relatable and the class exciting. Class consists of 4 exams, a small group presentation, and a report. I highly recommend Carl's class!
Carl is a top-notch instructor of business law. He's a bit intimidating and his tests are challenging. However, he's very energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate about the subject matter. He loves it when students participate in class and express opinions with well-reasoned arguments. I learned a great deal and I highly recommend his class!
4 exams, 10 points participation, 30 points paper, 5 points case briefing on paper. Exams are challenging and require plenty of reading. Tough class. Instructor grades papers generously. Very knowledgeable and approachable. great communication. He will give everyone an A, if he could. He tries his best to give the best grade to all.
Prof. Pentis is a great instructor! He really wants you to pass his class and you honestly have to be pretty dumb not to. You learn a lot and he uses real examples of cases he has been involved in to illustrate the material. Take this class!
This was a wonderful class with a great professor. He is very open to questions and is a very funny guy. Likes to joke around, and will do his best to help you. He wants everyone to get the highest grade they can. His tests are a little tricky but as the quarter goes on you will learn to understand his questions better. great class good teacher!
He cares about maximizing your learning experience, getting you comfortable, helping you be successful, etc. A true teacher. He lets students contest test questions for credit (subjectivity is a recurring theme, as long as you're persuasive--not what I was expecting but welcome!) Lots of material covered but he makes it as pleasant as possible.
He is an excellent professor. The course is hard enough to learn the material, but he is willing to work with you to achieve the desired grade. I recommend the professor and the class.
The class was a lot of work but as long as you do the homework and listen to his lecture, you have the opportunity to do well. He is very flexible and willing to help you with any issues. Highly recommend this class.
This is not an easy class itself and probably not everyone's favorite subject, but Prof. Pentis made it an great experience. He loves this subject and he wants everyone to have fun too. Lots of work but they help you to A the exams. He is the only professor you should take for 518. I highly recommend the professor and the class.
Good teacher, gets the main points across. A lot of work though, chapter outlines are due every week including case summaries, sometimes two chapters a week. Tests are fair and not that hard if you do the chapter outlines.
I wouldn't say that the class is easy, but as long as you do your outlines, and summaries on the assigned cases, you will do well on the exams and in the class. Professor Pentis is very knowledgeable and has the legal background to give his students a real world perspective. I highly recommend anyone taking MGMT518 to enroll in his class.
For all graduate students taking MGMT 518, Professor Pentis is THE teacher to take for this class. There is a lot of information to learn in this class and Prof Pentis makes it manageable as well as interesting. As long as you have a good habit of working on the readings, homework/cases, and participate in class, you can do well on the exams.
awesome guy. made me just love the business law. being an international student he made it pretty interesting for all. Just take his class...do not give a second thought.
This is a great class to take if you are interesting in law. The professor has a lot of real world knowledge that he shares with the class. I would take this teacher again if he had other classes and actually made me think about continuing education past MBA status.
Professor is really nice, although we have to do homework every week, but they are easy and can earn credit on it. He separate the test into 4 test per semester which you will be appreciate when Final comes! highly recommended!
He is a great professor and I highly recommend him if you are going to take MGMT 518. 4 exams, 2 paper, chapter and case brief. Follow his great PPT and lectures, those really help!! He is one of the best professors in CSUF!!
Great professor, 4 multiply choice exams with 2 essay questions. Final is not cumulative. He makes the class very interesting.
He is such a nice professor. He cares about his students and how we perceive lectures. He spends time to answer all of our questions after class. 4 tests and 2 papers. No tricky questions as long as you read and understand the material. Easy B, A needs a lot of effort.
Professor Pentis is the best professor I have ever had. He requires a brief reading of the chapter and a 2 page summary, before class. That helped me understand better and enabled participation. He makes it possible to get A+, if you are willing to concentrate on classroom lecture and read the book before. Highly Recommended. Ul surely enjoy.
Carlcarl is the best professor ever! He is soooooo helpful and knowledgeable. He never pushes you to learn, but you have learn everything you should know in his class. He is soooooo humorous and nice as well, so his class is so fun. All of my classmates like him. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!
Good professor. If you have lot of time in a week to work on assignments, cases i recommend this professor. Otherwise better off taking other professors. Too much work every week especially if you are working full time.
This class is very content rich and there is a lot of reading. However, having said that, Carl made learning it bearable and interesting. He brings in a lot of real world knowledge and he definitely knows what he's talking about. I would recommend any of my friends who need this course to register with Carl. He's approachable and you'll learn!
Good Professor! He's willing to listen to and help you with your difficulty in studying. He gives you all the opportunities to get good grade. The point is that you have to be serious with your study. Highly recommend!
Professor Pentis was fantastic. You could tell he genuinely wanted the students to understand the material rather than "just getting by". He also had real-life experience which makes him more credible. The grading & point system is reasonable. Read the book, participate in class discussions, & pay attention to lectures and you can get an A
Be prepared for a lot of reading and outlining, and rest assured it serves a purpose: to help you excel on the exams. They are detail-intensive and require a thorough understanding for high scores. As to the lectures, Professor Pentis is clear, energetic, and gives many examples of the real-world application of textbook law. Highly recommended.
Carl is an awesome professor. This class is his hobby so he is more than Willing to help his students. He understands that this is an elective class and most of us are not going to law school. The class is very interesting. Just make sure to read and breakdown the cases and use the power points. That is the key to the entire class. Goodluck
Carl makes difficult material interesting. He has a passion for the subject and shares that with his students.
Carl is a great professor. Probably one of the best professors I have ever had. He is enthusiastic about what he teaches and has a real desire for his students to learn. At first the class may seem a bit overwhelming because you have to do chapter outlines and case briefs for each class, but these make studying for the test a breeze.
He wants you to pass. Lectures are packed with information but he includes his interesting experiences. CLASS MECHANICS: Homework = ~10%. Two writing assignments = ~5%. Most of the grade is from the 4 exams, non-cumulative 50 multiple choice, 2 essay/short answer based on cases. Here's a tip: If a case lists or numbers laws applied, MEMORIZE them!
NEED READ BOOK CAREFULLY. PROFESSOR IS VERY NICE AND KIND TO HELP.
Carl practices the law so he knows what he is talking about and is not just a professor with a PHD and no relevant real life experience. READ THE BOOK. GO TO CLASS. Lots of homework but make sure to do it and engage while doing it. Study groups helpful. Very kind and helpful teacher.
Pentis is simply AWESOME. Highly recommend any of his classes to anyone with even the slightest interest in law. He loves what he teaches and is very helpful throughout the whole semester. TAKE HIM!
After finals, I ran into a friend who had taken Carl two semesters ago. She had just left a restaurant that is no longer franchised, but still used the old decor. She said they'll need a lawyer soon, and we both remembered why: "trade dress." Carl's anecdotes make law stick with you. He's an easy B but a tough A: you'll need consistent studying.
Professor Carl is a great professor. He is very helpful and enjoys teaching law. He makes law intresting and enjoys when students partcipate. He does give a lot of homework, but dont let that scare u away. As long as you attempt to do it, he will give you points. The tests are though and not because of the material but because theres so much material in each chapter. There are 4 exams in total. Overall, Professor Carl is awesome and i will definetly recommend him.
Carl is a great professor. You will learn a lot in his class. Even if you're not a legal studies major you will learn a lot of important information that will be useful in your everyday life. The exams are hard, but if you study you will get a really good grade. If you don't pass his class you should just drop out of school.
Wonderful teacher and a very enjoyable class. It is a lot of work to during the semester. The exams are not very difficult except for the cases part. Overall the best class in the MBA program
He's a great professor. The class does require a lot of work and careful understanding of the text to do well. He's always there to help to make the process of learning easier. The class isn't easy as you need to know the material but overall, it is still worth taking.
Prior reviews are legit. Carl is a super engaging and enthusiastic professor. The class is tough. Lotsa BUSY work. Chapter outlines are due every week for each chapter. Tests are manageable. He may seem intimidating at first, but he's a very cool professor. I look forward to his classes. He's always got awesome anecdotes/tangents. Take him Fasho!
He is great. Very entertaining. Sometimes scattered in his presentation of the material, but with the homework and reading combined with his lecture (and availability) it's all material you can get. Tough to shotgun out ALL of the information for a law class...there is so much!
This is a great class! Carl is a wonderful professor. His class structure is very laid back. He loves to engage with the students. The class itself is very demanding, expect lots of assignments and reading. Must stay on top of weekly readings. Exams are tough but very fair. I enjoyed attending his lectures.
Best teacher I have had at this school. He uses the Socratic method of teaching which can be difficult in the beginning but you walk away from this class knowing much more then you did going in. He genuinely cares about students and is willing to repeat or re-word anything you need. His tests are difficult but fair. Be sure to brief the cases.
This class will require a lot of reading and homework assignments in every class which will include chapter outlines and case briefs. To get a good grade in the exams, you will need to read each chapter and powerpoint. This class is hard and will require work but the grading is highly curved. Do not take with another class that requires lots of HW.
Amazing professor, very knowledgeable in his field, you can feel his presence as a long-time lawyer in the class, firm and serious but very helpful and humorous. You do the case briefs as the best you can and you get the points, and you do need to volunteer to get those precious participation points. He does curve at the end of the class, fairly.
Very energetic and interesting lectures. A LOT of work including numerous case studies per week, notes for each chapter, occasional ethics questions, papers, and tests. The work load is quite overwhelming if you work full time. He cares a lot about his students and will curve final grades (mostly As and Bs). You really have to earn a C grade.
Professor Pentis the very best CSUF has to offer. The man will listen to you, challenge you, and make you appreciate the law in a way no other professor I have seen can. Strongly advise for any and all classes you can take with him. Likes coffee!
Lots of reading, then write up into summary report to hand in each week - pain at first but a good way to help you revise for the tests - revise each week and when it comes to the test you will be good - leave revision till the week before and it will be very overwhelming. Know your cases as they pop up in the tests. Great Professor - very fair
If you ever want to start a business in the near feature, this class is a great way to begin that process. Carl Pentis has all the experience, knowledge, and guidelines you will need to succeed. Nevertheless, his class is hard because he wants you to begin to learn a different type of thinking process. He exemplifies what Mihaylo College is.
MCQs from EXAM are straight up from test bank from textbook. Note that each chapter have over 300qns!!! Strategize to earn an A in this class. Only memorize cases that have a clear "1, 2, 3 factors". Lots of work to do. Study SMART and not HARD. Remember its all about strategizing points. Overall you will learn a lot from this course.
I was able to take Pentis for the second time. He is my favorite teacher at this school. I really wish he taught other classes because I would happily take him again. His class is a lot of work and his tests are difficult but after the semester is over you wont walk away saying "that was a waste of four months" like many other classes.
I took Professor Pentis for both MGMT 349 and MGMT 447. He is, without a doubt, one of the toughest professors I've had; he is also one of the best. He has a true passion for what he teaches and it is that passion which both challenges and inspires his students.
Carl Pentis is a great teacher! He is awesome professional, is willing to help, and can explain material great. However, this class requires a lot of reading, every week homework (conspect of chapter and case briefs) - not hard at all but it took me about 3-4 hrs in average. Also, Mr. Pentis' ppt slides are great - read them if have no time for book
Professor Pentis was extremely helpful and would go out of his way to ensure students understood the material. Be ready to read, as he expects you to submit notes to prove you completed the reading, which were helpful by the way. I might not have read otherwise. If you have any questions, feel free to ask as participation is part of your grade.
Amazing professor, he knows subject really well. Always happy to help students. Case briefs and understanding ver very important.
An excellent professional and an amazing human being.... His tests are challenging and fun... Very supportive. Would recommend everyone to take his class...
Very great, interesting subject, explains the class detailed
The class is challenging. He covered a lot of chapters, but luckily the final is not cumulative. Just read the book, slides and cases he's assigned. Participation and doing homework are needed, but he graded it very easily too. Surely you'll pass. He's easy, helpful and knows a lot of funny stories. The class is not too bad in general!
He is a GREAT guy. You will read an entire law book and write notes out of each chapter and read case studies. You will pass if you put in the effort, but there is a good amount of work every week. Tests are pretty tuff so study up. GOOD LUCK
He is a warm hearted, helpful, easygoing, straight shooter! Carl, you're awesome. I enjoyed having you for two semesters and will use the knowledge you provided me for my legal career. Study hard for the exams and do the homework, he gives easy points for the homework. Participate once or twice for his participation points :)
Business laws is not easy and he made the course more interesting and easy to understand. He shared his stories, mostly directly related to himself for clarifying some complicated terms. Just make sure to do your homework, participate and show some efforts, you will pass.
Carl is just helpful, awesome and dedicated. The material is challenging but he does a good job explaining it. This is a kind of class where you actually learn a ton. It's easy to get a B.
I would take this class again. Thought it would be my least favorite class; however, it soon became my favorite class. He can be intimidating but only because he wants his students to speak up and challenge him, so try not to take what he says personally. He has a lawyer mentality to the core and uses real-life examples in his class.
Best professor I've had after 6 years at CSUF. Lots of homework, but it's not difficult at all. Exams are very difficult, 80% MC 20% short answer. You need BOTH BOOKS and should being the Meiners one to class. Participation required. He will open your eyes to law and change your perspective on the American legal system. Don't be afraid to ask Q's!
Great overall professor. Really enjoyed learning about the materials presented in class! Don't be shy when taking this course. Lots of homework but it really helps when dealing with case materials and studying. He's very understanding and really does care about his students.
This is the professor to take if you ever get the chance. The care and passion he has for the subject is so admirable. He makes class fun and relates real world examples in his field to class lessons.
A lot of reading, but to your advantage. Class discussions and reading assignments are fair game. Professor Pentis is straight forward, fair, and really wants you to succeed. The lectures are peppered with his real life experience as a practicing attorney. He makes lectures enjoyable, especially after you've worked a full day.
Fun class and good professor. Straight forward expectations
Excellent teacher who loves his subject matter, cares about his students, and wants to make them better. Outlining every chapter as homework sucks but you do learn from it and it does prepare you for tests. Tough class but I Learned a lot. Like most things, you get out what you put in. I would take his class again.
Work hard, you will be ok.
Great professor! Exams are a bit tough but he does curve the final grade since many do poorly on the exams. Homework is easy. You just have to brief cases he assigns from the textbook. Participation is required. Overall good teacher!
Prof. Pentis is by far the best professor I've taken in college. He cares deeply about his students, he is very patient, and he's an extremely fair grader. The tests are extremely tough, but he curves generously. The rest of the grade comes from attendance and weekly chapter outlines/case briefs. I look forward to taking him for other Law classes!
This subject is difficult especially for international students as they are not familiar with US law. One has to work really hard for it even to get a decent grade but professor Carl is really helpful, makes the class interesting and is also lenient with his grading... If u are taking mgmt 518. Carl is the best professor...
One of the best professors I've had. I had him for two classes and all of which, I can say, I've learned a lot from him. He's a great professor who wants you to pass! Not to mention that he's hilarious and always keeps the class entertained.
My favorite professor at CSUF. Pretty difficult class with a lot of homework and reading but if you put in the work and show up you'll pass. Do not skip this class, unless you are some kind of legal genius you won't learn, the lectures are good anyway.
As long as you do your homework, you'll be fine. Study the law facts and memorize them. I bombed the first test and still ended up with a decent grade with participation points.
Great professor!! Reading the book is crucial to doing well on the exams. Go to class, pay attention, and ask questions. This class is incredibly interesting and helpful in the real business world. He has funny stories/experiences that he shares to make the material more understandable. Take him if you want to learn! Not an "easy" class.
Assigns chapter outlines for homework (sounds tedious but actually very helpful); gives points for briefing cases in class; one short paper, one longer research paper, 4 tests, 1 final; go to class, study powerpoints and outlines for tests. This class is a lot of work, but if you do it, you'll get an A.
Great professor. Motivated, knows his stuff, and willing to help students. Not a tough grader, but you'll have to know your stuff. His exams are pretty detailed. Most the MC portion can be obtained from the slides, but not all. You'll have to cover all the cases for the written portion of his exams. HW can be tedious but doable.
Class is a lot of work. HW was outlining each chapter and briefing assigned cases. Tests were fairly detailed and included MC section and essay. Short paper and research project were not too difficult. He makes this class enjoyable and is very fair in how he grades. He gives real life examples of law and is entertaining in class.
Prof. Pentis can be a little intimidating at first, but he's warned us that he can come off as that because of his career as a litigation lawyer. However, he is extremely knowledgeable of the course content and gives real-life examples from his experiences that apply to the course. I learned a lot in his class and highly recommend this professor.
Pentis makes it pretty clear that anyone who participates in class, attends all lectures and completes all assignments will get a B. You have to participate though, no sitting in the back. His tests are hard but curved and there's lots of easy homework. You have to work to get an A and really pay attention to subtly on the tests. Would Take Again
Professor Pentis is an actual gem. He's full of knowledge and really does care about his students. If you go to class and do your homework (which are just chapter outlines) you'll pass. No group project but there a term paper at the end of the semester. Midterm and final that have 50 multiple choice and 2 short essays/
You'll have to work for an A but if you go to class, participate and do you're chapter outlines, you'll pass. Professor Pentis really does care about his students and wants everyone to pass. There are 3 Exams 50 multiple choice, 2 short essays (non cumulative) and a term paper.
Took Prof Pentis for Mgmt 348 one semester and Mgmt 346 this past semester. He can really get on students' nerves when he basically is the only professor that teaches the courses required for Legal Studies majors. Outlines are essentially busy work, but count for a good percentage of your overall grade. Tough grader and overall annoying person.
Overall very good and experienced professor. At the beginning you may get the impression that the course will be difficult, but in it reality is average. Most people will do well as far as the chapter's outline and brief of few cases per class are done; study from the power point presentations and outlines; and be familiar with the cases.
The course requires a lot of reading and a fair amount of homework. You must purchase the books and do every homework as it would make the rest of the course easier. The Carl Pentis method focuses on you understanding the law and applying it correctly. It is one class I will look back on when legal questions come up in my career
Pros: Grades on a curve, so everybody passes Cons: Likes to cut you off when asking questions. Ask your questions properly. Advice: Rent the required textbooks cuz they are so expensive to buy. Always do the chapter outlines . Pay attention to any court case that has multiple laws involved cuz it's a 95% chance that it's an essay test question
Had Carl for (FE)MBA "Legal and Ethical Environment of Business". Absolutely nonstop work- although to be fair it was a huge course shoehorned into summer semester. 4 exams, term paper, often multiple chapters of reading per class with required outlines... etc. Grading is very much skewed toward the exams. Well worth it though, great experience!
Makes a difficult subject entertaining. There is a lot of material to cover which requires you to read the chapters before covering them in class.
3 exams, equal weight. 1 individual term report. 2 cases brief (Just tell him what the issue, or applied law, or fact, or court decision is) and you get full participation points. And all homework is about chapter outline before class. Once you do it, you get full credit in this field. Exams are kinda tricky, you have to listen to his lectures.
Professor Pentis is very dedicated to his lecturing at CSUF and is always responsible and accessible to every students in his class, as well as outside of class. He is also aware of the diversity among students coming from different culture and background, and is able to provide support to each student accordingly.
This is the second class I've taken Pentis for. This class was pretty easy, but the 3 tests themselves were pretty hard. Grade is just 3 tests, weekly chapter outlines, and one easy project. No complaints here--a solid professor that actually cares about his students.
Prof. Pentis is quite easily one of the best profs I've ever had. He's incredibly knowledgeable and makes what could easily be a dry and boring subject, very interesting. I very much looked forward to his lectures and stories, which says a lot coming from someone who struggled to do well and barely passed. It was tough, but I'd take him again.
You will learn something in this class. Carl is a very accomplished lawyer and its great to be taught by someone that has examples for the real world. As for the class they are power point lectures based off the book chapters. Class is work though. Outlines and cases. 1 research paper 4-6 pages 4% of grade. For test know the cases assigned.
Professor Pentis always lectures with his incomparable passion and work ethics. He leads us through the real world of business laws. Professor Pentis inspires and helps me so much to improve myself. It will be such a waste if someone takes this class just for an "A". Be fully prepared for each class and be ready to be inspired.
MGMT 518 is one of the more challenging courses to earn an A. However, professor Pentis is a passionate professor and accomplished lawyer. Anyone taking this course will definitely learn something, but be prepared to put in the work for an A.
Carl Pentis not only knows the material in depth but also shows us how to apply it to the real world. He is with no doubt the most knowledgable professor I have ever had my entire three years in college. If you are interested in learning about current law and how they apply to the world around you, then please, take this class.
Cyber Law is constantly changing. The professor is very aware of this and keeps the class informed in any changes. He is extremely knowledgable in the entire field of law as I can see. I have taken 3 of his classes and will take a fourth this Fall. My only regret is that I won't have him as a future professor after graduating from CSUF.
Easily one of my favorite professors even though I didn't interact with him much one on one, just thought he was really funny and knowledgeable and has more energy than most people my age (28). Just be careful about speaking or asking questions before you think it through, because he does tend to embarrass you but I think I'm a better person for it
Grading was fair and he makes you work for it. Lecture were always interesting because he loves to weave his professional experiences into the course material. Things you learn in this class will be applicable to both your personal and professional life. Be sure to eat dinner before coming to class. He will talk about in-n-out quite often!
Comm Law is tough, dry and DENSE. So be sure to read, do the weekly outlines (they're for credit, and save your butt), and listen to lecture. Carl is great for lecture, can talk fast and go a little off topic, but with such dense material, it's ok. Curves at the end, I barely missed the B line. :( tests are tough!! But Pentis is solid and fair.
Took Carl for two classes this semester. Planning on taking him a couple times next year too. Tests - tough... homework outlines help cushion, he throws in a lot of point opportunities to offset test scores (not extra points, but stuff to cushion) also curves, he's very understanding, allows for late work, and the class is engaging. Solid choice
The most arrogant professor at CSUF. If there are any other law professors teaching, take them instead of Pentis. This professor loves failing students and loves to show off by saying that he knows everything, and the students don't have any clue about law. If you love being pressured and dealing with stress, go ahead and take Pentis.
As expected from a law class, the material is dry & easy to understand, but more difficult to apply to cases using logical fact patterns. He finds a way to make it interesting and sometimes funny and gives great/relevant feedback. He sincerely cares about your success. Weekly assignments. Hard tests but he curves. Hard A, but also hard to fail.
If you are required to take Pentis, that is really disappointing. All other law professors at CSUF truly care about their students. Pentis is the complete opposite. He does not like questions when a student asks. Whether you are taking 349 or any other law class for Pentis, you are pretty much on your own. My condolences for those who take Pentis.
He is a very interesting teacher. He did have us outline each chapter but it turns out to be a good thing when test time comes. Very fair and even allowed us to "challenge" 2 questions we got wrong on exams. Essentially he lets you build a case to get the wrong answers right. Very fair.
It's interesting how Pentis mentions about discrimination and how it is not correct, and yet he teaches the vast majority of the law classes at CSUF given that he is a Part Time Faculty. That is discrimination given that there are full time law professors at CSUF, and they do not get to teach law classes. Pentis is also extremely bias.
Pentis loves failing students. In our class, the highest grade was a 69% and Pentis calculated it as a "D" or 1.0 GPA according to his grade distribution. He told our class that he fails undergraduate students by giving a failing grade, and having 59% as the highest grade.
Class is quite challenging, as taking any law class for me is like learning another language. Nonetheless, professor Pentis was able to deliver class material in quite relatable ways by using cases he worked on before. My class average was 3.45, so he does reward you if you're willing to put in the work. I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
One of the tougher graders @ CSUF. Hes smart and he knows it. You are paying for a top tier education, so you might as well learn a thing or two you sad lazy people. Get your head in the game and Youll be ok.
Professor Pentis is very knowledgeable. He's very transparent in his grading, so you know where you're at after each test. He also gives HUGH curve to our grades. You must do all of the assigned homework, read every word of his power point, attend his classes. If you don't get a B or higher, that means you're just lazy and not put in enough effort.
Be prepared to read. There is weekly homework, and while time consuming, it is designed to help you master the material. Some of the concepts can be difficult to parse through solo so constant attendance is recommended. His Lectures are entertaining and his grading style is very, very fair. 10/10 would take again.
Challenging course. Be prepare to work. There are weekly case brief + chapter outlines (spend time on this to shorten your exam review time). 4 exams weigh equally, 1 research paper. Very nice and reasonable professor. If you dedicate your time to this course, you will have at least a B from this class.
Professor Pentis takes care of his students well, especially international students. He helps & encourages us. He gives a lot of useful feedbacks in the tests. He has clear grading criteria. Although he assigns homework every week, 4 tough tests & 2 reports, he gives us big curves and many chances to raise our grades. He appreciates our progress.
Do the homework an put in effort on the tests and paper, and you will pass.
Gives each student a lot of slack from my opinion. Homework is due every week but as long as you turn it all in by the test date you will get full credit. Book is vague so pay attention in lecture and you will be fine. Over all great professor. Attend all classes, participate, do all hw. Guarantee you will pass.
Outline for chapters and problems are due every week. Attending lectures covers information on tests. Attendance is a must in order to understand the subject and cases. Overall great professor.
Professor Pentis cares about his students and he tries to make sure that they all get an equal opportunity to pass. There is a lot of HW in this class, but it helps you study for exams. Exams are heavily based on case briefs. Read textbook and power points and you will pass!
This is my 3rd semester taking Prof. Pentis. I love his teaching style and he truly cares about his students! Although he may go off on short tangents sometimes, they are always entertaining and he is able to relate the material to real life cases. As long as you do the homework and study the powerpoints, you should at least pass. Quality professor
This course was challenging in a great way. As an International Business Major I have not taken a course taught by a practicing international attorney. Carl is very fair in his grading and helps students understand the legal concepts who don't speak lawyer. You will work hard in this class but it will all be worth it.
Carl Pentis is definitely one of my favorite professors of all time. He's currently an active lawyer and knows his law. He keeps students engaged with his real life examples and humor. If you take this class be very prepared to devote a lot of time (heavy reading and assignments). However, HARD WORK PAYS OFF. This was one of my favorite classes.
Carl definitely knows his stuff. Likes to brag about his kids and personal life a lot, but it could be worse. Tests are incredibly tough. Make sure you make effective outlines, and read the assigned chapters!!! Grades with a curve. Carl really wants everyone to do well.
This was the hardest class I had all semester, but Professor Pentis is an AMAZING professor. He knows his law and is always willing to help students. This class was a lot of work and the tests are difficult but as long as you give it your BEST effort, you will pass. DO YOUR OUTLINES AND CASE BRIEFS!
This class was very enjoyable. Professor Pentis is my favorite professor of all time. There is a lot of reading but as long as you do your readings and prepare your outlines and case briefs, you will pass!
Carl is an excellent instructor and, most importantly, a genuinely kindhearted person. He makes the material enjoyable and intuitive with his jubilant sense of humor and polished communication skills from his many years as an attorney. The workload can seem dense at times, but it's worth it to be in a class with him.
Homework is assigned for each class meeting and consists of typing up an outline and briefing short cases. Dont skip doing the homework!! The points are a big help. Exams arent easy but if you study and use the Cengage tools you wont be caught off guard on exam day. Would totally recommend to take him. He truly cares about helping his students.
This professor really thinks that we have no other classes or other obligations and expects us to write a 2-3 page outline for 21 chapters throughout the semester, have this teacher for multiple classes and forget about it. Shoutout to Fullerton for having no options when it comes to selecting teachers.
This teachers logic is: because some students in the past didnt do well, he now forces every student to learn the same way by writing mundane outlines. We all know how well common core has worked out. Were paying this guys salary so he can force us to all learn the same exact way. Just not very well thought out.
Charismatic and loves the students. Yes, outlines for every chapter which for those that have never studied before might be bamboozled by, but donut be afraid. Find key terms, quickly skim the chapter, and put it onto a 1-2 page outline. He just checks to see if you did it, and case briefs are concise. Pay attention and you'll do fine.
Weekly homework assignments (case briefs), but easy to reach via phone or email. Super understanding when you contact him and let him know your situation. Participation points reading a case brief outline in class. Definitely need to allot a chunk of time for homework and readings to pass (law classes are like that).
I have taken Carl for 3 classes. He teaches his classes as if we were law students. His exams are extremely hard. His homework is easy points and role is taken every class. Hard class but he curves the class so that if you put in effort he will pass you. Worth taking him. Great guy!! always willing to help! 3 exams, 1 paper.
Professor Pentis cares about his students like nobody else. Thus class requires a lot of work, but no more than any other 400+ level class that is worth your time. If you do your homework and put in the effort, you will pass. Also, if you want to actually learn, he is your guy. Totally recommended.
Professor Pentis is an amazing Professor! The law concepts are difficult especially if you dont have a law background, but he explains it so well. He is very helpful and very fast at communicating through phone and email. I definitely recommend taking this class!
This is definitely one of the hardest classes I have taken at CSUF. He is very accessible outside of class time, which is great. However, his tests and essays are extremely difficult. He teaches very little and expects us to grasp these very hard, dry concepts. Very hard to come with a simple question. Would not take again. He does curve.
Hardest professor in terms of material and class structure. Exams are based on how to APPLY what you learn rather than memorization of material. Exams are insanely difficult and paper was even more complicated/difficult. BUT! He curves so generously that taking him makes it worth it. Study tip: do outlines of each chapter!
Overall, Professor Pentis is a caring and respected professor. He spends lots of time making sure the material is understood, and students are learning correctly.
I have mixed feelings about Professor Pentis. He definitely knows his material when it comes to law BUT as a Professor in general he is so unorganized and all over the place. Also, if you are the type that loves to ask questions be fully prepared to not get a clear response or get a very condescending answer. And yes he curves!
By nature, the class material is heavy with memorization and study cases; however, the professor is very supportive and caring. Three exams + 1 research paper dues at end of class. Attendance and class debates are important.
Pentis is highly unorganized, rude (asking questions is torture), and dishonest (offered to write me a rec letter for law school but never responded when I asked). The worst and least efficient professor I have ever had. Whatever grade you get in his class will require twice as much work to get the same grade in another prof's class with no benefit
I took Professor Pentis for Commercial Law and International Law at the same time during the spring session. Beware this was HARD. He is very helpful and does not want to see anyone fail. This is very comprehensive stuff, which now I know to only take one of his classes each semester rather than doubling up. Great informative lectures!!!
Carl is one of those professors that actually cares about you as a student. He gives his personal cell number to students and expects you to reach out if/when you have a problem. You can tell he genuinely wants you to succeed and structures the course so that students feel comfortable sharing their opinions even over Zoom. Overall great experience.
This professor cares a lot about his students, but the material is pretty difficult and hard to memorize for the exams . Almost every week we had one homework assignment to turn in, one time to discuss on zoom our opinion on the homework, and one 2 minute paper (5 important things about the lecture that day, thats how he takes attendance).
This class was definitely among the toughest I've taken. Professor is knowledgeable, personable and very reasonable but be prepared for in-depth analyses and memorizing many law cases during the semester. Attending lectures is a MUST as well as turning in assignments (weekly case reviews and 2 term papers). Great class but it's no walk in the park.
Professor Pentis is one of the best law professors at CSUF. Exams can be tricky but as long you read the book and make outlines you should be fine (READ the chapters before lectures). He is also very nice and cares about students. I totally recommend. You must put in the effort to pass his classes.
He did send emails before the class started. They did overwhelm me but he explains it better in class. This class is very difficult. The exams get harder as you progress. Lots of HW! If you like law this is your class. Hes a good professor who likes his field. I would take another class if you could if you dont need this class.
I will start by saying I really did enjoy this class, I will also say that this was definitely a tough course. Carl is aware of the difficult subject matter but is there to guide you towards a passing grade. If you put in the work you will pass with a B. Exams are tough (I read each chap 3 times) but just don't give up and keep trying. Overall good
Professor Pentis is a fantastic professor. I took three of his classes during my senior year and I am very thankful that I did. Across all three of the classes, he was very consistent and straightforward in his grading criteria, teaching style, and willingness to help any student as long as they made an effort to communicate with him.
I took Employment Law with Carl and he is a very good professor. The class itself is a law class, so expect to put in effort and not get handed an A without the work. The professor goes through lectures and preps you for exams but you have to put the work to get anything in life. Thank you for teaching Employment Law very clearly !
Professor Pentis is overall really chill and curves the class a very reasonable amount at the end of the course. He is not afraid of confrontation and will challenge you during case briefs, but he means well and overall wants to see you succeed. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I do wish he gave some more clear direction on some assignments.
This was one of the toughest business classes Ive taken but very worthwhile. Professor Pentis is an amazing lecturer and tries his best to make difficult material understandable as possible. You have to read the textbook, study, and stay on top of all your assignments. Take his class if you are willing to actually learn and put in effort!
Professor Pentis is a very helpful and caring professor. The concepts he taught were complicated, and his exams were difficult. However, he has such a generous curve that allows anyone who does the weekly homework, essay, and scores okay on the exams to pass the class. He is very easy to reach as he provides his phone number to contact him.
No groups. Three exams at 50 questions each and one term paper. Easy homework due every week and a short summary about what you learned after every class (tedious). The class material is very heavy and there is a lot of studying involved to pass. Really amazing professor. Cares about his students and makes the best out of class.
Take this guy. Doesn't matter what class/level. He's got solid credentials and his professional experience easily relates to the subject matter. Very accessible and he gets along well with the students. Can be an "A" as long as you do your work.
Carl Pentis is the best professor for any law class at CSUF. This guy takes so much care for his students and making sure that they learn. I took both his 349 Small Business and 445 Employment Law and ended up wishing I took him for more classes. If you have the chance to take him you MUST. He deserves all the credit for being a great prof.
I have had Professor Pentis for a majority of my classes and he is a very kind and respectable attorney. He is always willing to help. It is important you do the hw because it will ensure you pass the course.
Teaches well and has a clear structure of the class. The material is hard; however, the professor is great at breaking down the information. The homework and projects are not difficult but can be time-consuming. Be prepared to read a lot and force yourself to understand the material to get a good grade in the class. The tests are difficult.
Carl is such a kind person! Took the time to engage with the students. He is also very passionate about Law and his class was full of interesting real life anecdotes. He assigns a reasonable amount of homework and has a test every 3 weeks. Last test is not cumulative. Grades on a curve.
Very knowledgeable about the material, and he truly wants his students to succeed. This class is difficult because of the subject, but he teaches it well. He encourages questions during lectures. There are written case briefs due every week which are time consuming, but they are there to help learn the laws and prepare for exams. Great professor!
Professor Pentis is amazing. He is patient and always a text or call away. His lectures are long but very detailed and full of very important information that will be on exams. Case briefs are important for doing well on exams.
As a non-law student, this was my elective and I learned so much about the law with the class. This class teaches law above the undergrad business ethics classes. Can get somewhat difficult to memorize the elements of law in the tests and questions. He is a great professor always ready to help. There is a mobile app for the book to read on the go.
I really enjoyed Prof Carl's class. He taught with zeal and enthusiasm for the subject. I would highly recommend his class. He gives extra credit and recognise your efforts too!
The class material can be hard, but Professor Pentis made it as digestible as possible. He is the only Professor I have had that actually is easy to reach when needed. Weekly simple homework assignments- easy points, grading is clear and fair.
God bless this man!! highly recommend him
Professor cares about his students! Hes great. He always relates laws to current/life scenarios which helps a lot. Only one homework assignment a week which is super easy and quick. lecture slides are exact study guide for tests- memorize everything! No group project- only (1) 4-6 page research essay. Take him!! lots of extra credit you will pass!
Professor Carl was such a fantastic guy who made the class super easy and fun. The class is pretty straightforward. Just study, and you will pass. The exams are easy, and there's plenty of time to make up for your grade to pass the class.
I had the privilege of taking MGMT 346 w/Professor Pentis, Esq. this semester. I had him for different Law classes last semester & my 1st semester at CSUF. I highly recommend his classes to anyone looking for an enriching/supportive learning experience. He's truly a standout professor & I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from him.
Professor Pentis made this class enjoyable despite the challenging content. He's super accessible and provides ample support. Consistent work and using resources like ChatGPT and Unstuck AI are key to doing well.
I took MGMT518 in Spring 2024 and truly enjoyed it. He has a wealth of knowledge and brings his experience as a lawyer and applies it to the material being taught. He truly cares and wants students to succeed. If there was an MBA law/legal concentration & more graduate law courses that were offered/taught by him I would without doubt enroll in them
He's a nice teacher but if your favorite holiday is halloween do not take him. His only class time is 7-9:45. So for whoever's taking him in the future and halloween's gonna fall on a Tuesday or Thursday he will do a midterm that day. But he is a nice guy though.
Professor Carl is an amazing professor at CSUF. What he lectures in classes reflects the content on his exams. 2 midterms, 1 paper, 1 final. He is also very accessible, reach out to him if you need clarity or have questions about the course. He definitely sets up every student for success. This is a required class for HR majors, so take PROF CARL!!
I took MGMT 518 with Professor Carl in Spring semester. I am an international student and leaning US law was a challenge but he made the learning so easy. His lectures are full of knowledge, examples are relevant and real life scenarios. His experience speaks. He is approachable. Reading book & all the cases, making notes helped me a lot too.
This professor is one of the best professor's I've ever taken. He's nice and explains the material really well! 10/10 TAKE HIM!!!
requires you to submit homework assignments whenever class is scheduled. Fairly graded, easy, and straightforward. Any questions or confusions, he is always happy and available to provide help. I was a bit concerned i would face challenges as it is not really my strong subject, but i did good. I would definitely recommended him to other students.
One of the best at CSUF. Not an easy class, but willing to work with students. Very accessible. If you're going into business law or legal studies, he is a must take.
Professor pentis was an incredibly caring and supportive professor who truly wants their students to succeed. Always helpful, patient, flexible, and understanding. One of the best professors I've had—highly recommend.
