interesting class, many real-world examples, includes field-trip to major networking center. very good teacher, easy-going, cool person. very helpful.
He gave us HW the last day of class! HW when i wanted to study for finals. I thought this was going to be an easy A but it wasnt, the work from the book was hard and took up hours(no kidding!) At times he taught at a good pace and then would go way to fast. There were periods when we had no work and then would pile it on. Maybe will improve
Nice guy, the class is really boring but you can just go online the whole time. If you don't do well on a test go to his office hours he will help you out.
Class was often boring until the last month of the semester when you get to work on computers. Tests are nearly impossible to get an A on, but there's a curve. There is little structure and organization so things will fall behind. But that works out to your advantage. Make sure you get on his good side and add your input or experience.
The class is a little difficult to understand, but Rebman is the man. Guy isn't looking to fail anyone, and isn't a hard ass like some other teachers. The tests are tough, but there is a serious curve. I thought my grade was much lower than it was...so how bad could it have actually have been. Not that much HW either.
Worst teacher I have ever had at USD. He's a really nice guy, but he doesn't know how to teach. You basically have to teach yourself and tests are very hard. He does curve them, but overall, I suggest staying away. It's the most boring class you will ever have to take!!
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! TERRIBLE SOCIAL SKILLS, VERY RUDE, ASSIGNS HW BEFORE EVEN TEACHES IT, TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE, CHOOSES FAVORITES, GRADES UNFAIRLY, UNREASONABLE EXPECTATIONS, TONS OF HW. WORST TEACHER I'VE TAKEN CLASS FROM AT USD.
Ridiculously bad teacher. Emotional stability of a 3rd grader. Definitely chooses favorites and will be an ass if you are on his bad side. "Can't ever remember what he says in class". Extremely rude at times, easily offended. Advice: Avoid his class like the plague, or make him think you are his friend if you get stuck with him.
PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!!! PLEASE! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!, I repeat, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! if you want to spend all of your free time doing work for an 100 level class & feel like wasting your time, then go for it...otherwise if you are smart, you would be wise to STAY AWAY! he's nice but terrible!
One of the worst professors I have ever had. The tests are extremely difficult. Avoid this professor. USD needs to get rid of him
I would rather take this class at 5am every morning with a different professor than with him. This is the devils child! you will fail! wait till you have enough credits till you can get a good professor! seriously, no excuses, stay away or else you will regret it later!
Rebman doesnt have a clue whats going on in class. He is a nice guy, means well... but your not going to learn if you are in this class. and if you do learn, it will be because of the 5 hrs you will take to do the homework, when if taught correctly could have been done in 20 mins. Just dont take this class, or your life will be in shambles
Absolutely do not take him, this was a joke of a class. VERY unclear, expects you to be a computer genius going into the class and is out to fail everyone. Look for another professor!
DON'T TAKE HIM. Tests are on material that isn't even covered, gives hw that is unclear, and expects you to automatically know how to do everything. Picks favorites. Easy to get a B, but impossible to get an A, even if you work your butt off.
THIS GUY IS THE WOOORRSSTTTT. I DONT CARE IF ANYONE SAYS HES NOT, HE IS! HE DOESN'T TEACH ANYTHING HE TESTS YOU ON. YOU'D THINK WHEN EVERYONE FAILS EVERY EXAM AND HE HAS TO CURVE IT TREMENDOUSLY FOR ANYONE TO EVEN PASS THAT HE'D QUIT TEACHING. HE ASSUMES YOU KNOW EVERYTHING HE KNOWS. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS YOU'LL PROBABLY CRY.
Great Guy, fun class. Interactive style of teaching is perfect for an upperdivision class. Learn how to think about IT from a philisophical perspective while gaining hands on skills in Excel, Access, and other job applicable software. Take the class!
Don't take him. He is terrible at answering questions and gives out arbitrary grades on a lot of the written assignments.
DO NOT TAKE. He is crazy, assigns homework that takes literally hours, and grades are completly RANDOM. you will get back a paper with "C-" on top and no explanation, then your friend has B+ with the same exact work. Does not teach in class, just wastes time and leaves alot. Had to curve our test because the highest grade was 72%. needs to b fired
There is no help from this guy! He doesn't understand how to teach! Makes so many mistakes in the quizes and exams, so check your answers with the book every test! Assigns one thing and expects another, what makes hard to understand what exactly he wants. Lectures are random: you'll learn more about his personal life than about the subject.
Okay honestly, he's by far one of the easiest, sweetest, and most helpful professors. He wants people to do well!. He sometimes forgets to remind us about the assignments, but it's all super easy and he gives 100 on quizzes! take him!
Makes it harder than it should be. Rushes through lectures doesn't want to help and overgrades on assignments. Its not an advanced english class. Way harder than other ITMG classes
Awful professor who gives hard quizzes on random and irrelevant material that he hardly goes over. Can be incredibly unreasonable at times and is basically no help at all. Don't buy any textbooks.
This class was way harder than it needed to be. Rebman may be knowledgeable but is not the type of person to be teaching. Also loves to assign busy work that inconveniently can only be done on a PC.
He is incredibly difficult. If you have never used Excel before than you will fail this class. He barely teaches and makes his quizzes really hard. Over grades assignments which are supposed to help with your grade.
Worst professor I have ever had. EVER. He is unclear and extremely difficult to follow. DROP this class!
I'm receiving a pretty high grade in this class however, it is much more difficult than it should be. Definitely more work than the other ITMG classes. He is unclear & confusing. Follow all directions exactly for written assignments & have him look over your work before turning it in.
Was expecting an awful class based on these ratings but honestly, it wasn't that bad. He's not a great teacher, and his class is definitely more work than the other ITMG classes on campus, but if you put in the effort to study for the MOS etc it's really not hard to get an A. Gives out random grades on homework assignments, so be cautious of that.
Do yourself a favor and don't take his class. I would rather switch majors than take his class again. He is an awful teacher (really bad at answering questions, very unclear, horrible at communicating, and doesn't tell you or post when assignments are due). He knows what he is teaching, but is useless at communicating it. I taught myself everything
Very nice guy, very boring class. He sends a lot of homework assignments that are really long, you have to make time for them or get them from someone who already took the class. Some of the solutions for the assignments are online too. Overall easy class he is really cool about deadlines too, perhaps because he knows its a lot of work.
I really liked him, take this course.
He is more interested in telling people that he is a Dr. instead of a Mr. rather than actually teaching the course. He doesn't know how to give a straight answer and makes an easy course into a challenging one. I realize he is proud of his doctorate received at Arizona State University but he needs to realize that not all of us are geniuses likehim
Don't take this professor, he makes a fairly easy subject into a complicated one. Just don't.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. ITMG is an easy A as long as you don't take him. He gives a lot of homework that takes hours to complete and it's almost impossible to do well. He doesn't help you and is really rude. There is a midterm - that NO OTHER ITMG TEACHER GIVES - and the average is a 60. He doesn't prepare you for the final. Only allowed to miss 1 class.
Honestly, this class caused me a lot of stress that affected all my other grades. For the reason that it was very disorganized. The professor does not know how to manage his class, fight verbally with students many times because most of the students disagree with him. He would give you source to study but never teach you in class anything useful.
didn't understand nor like his class at all. very unclear with his lectures and doesn't like to help whatsoever. First time i ever failed a class! do not take itmg with him i repeat do not!!!!!!
he is a really harsh grader. I passed the certification with 100% but still got a B- in his class. That should be the whole point of the class. His homework is crucial and he grades extremely harshly on it. unfair professor.
THE WORST, DO NOT TAKE IT!
The professor does indeed have unique style to teaching. While reading is indeed done beforehand, reading is gone over in class, so much confusion can be cleared up. Given the subject of the class, mistakes you make may seem obvious, but the instructions given are quite clear on what and what not to do. it may take a while to get into the groove.
super boring class and way too hard for the subject. decent guy that will help if you need it but overall the structure of his class is bad and you wont use anything you learn ever again
Super boring class that he makes way too hard for the subject. You can study all you want but you wont get a good grade. Every other ITMG teacher is way easier and sticks to the course way more. Wont ever take him again.
He offers a lot of extra credit to make up for all the points you will undoubtedly miss during the unexplained homework assignments. Showing up to class counts as participation, so just do that and browse the internet to find your answers. The myeducator assignments are way more effective than the lectures so that's the best resource.
THE WORST PROFESSOR I EVER TOOK IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! NEVER TAKE IT
never take this class in your life! Its just the worst class of USD! just don't do it
Most people are scared to ask questions from him because he makes you feel stupid. This is the one class I completely despise going to because he doesn't teach the material very well at all. He goes through the material super quickly and expects you to figure it out. Also, doesn't prepare us enough for tests. DO NOT TAKE HIM AS A PROFESSOR!!!!
He's not as bad as everyone says he is, I promise. If you just talk to him or go to his office hours he is so beyond helpful. If you talk to him, ask questions, and go to class you will do just fine, even if you bomb the first exam like I did.
I think I would have learned more in the class if it was an online class without a professor. We used My Educator as a program which was far more helpful than the actual prof. He is very smart and knowledgable in the topic but has trouble teaching to the majority of the class
Takes attendance, but class is a waste of time. Doesn't teach about the homework or tests, just random stuff, I still don't know what he lectured about all semester or what we used it for. If you don't have previous knowledge in the software, you probably won't pass. It's hard to learn software from a book and he gets mad if you ask him questions.
This class is mandatory for business majors. He shows up late to class a lot but you have to be in class or you will not pass. The class work is a joke, you do nothing. The homework takes hours to do because you teach yourself Excel and Access too. He gives a lot of extra credit to bump your grade up and was actually really helpful in office hours!
quiz was too difficult
His class is a lot of work. He expected us to study a lot for the first test and the class average was somewhere around 60%. He starts class very late and is not very helpful. He's always distracted and doesn't explain things very well. Also, he gives a lot of busy work that doesn't help
Class is difficult to get a good grade in, and the sum total of your knowledge in the class is gonna be self taught.
He's a good guy and means well he just doesn't teach. The first exam is a cumulative exam of basically the entire textbook minus two chapters and the highest grade received was a 65%. This class is entirely self taught. The class isn't hard but it would've been easier if my teacher taught me rather than my textbook
the dude tries to be cool, but simply falls short. He makes art though? 10/10 would not take this class again. wow. really did not enjoy this class. sorry bro. this class single-handedly made me switch majors. no longer a business major. much happier now.
Assigns a lot of busy work. Gets distracted easily. You have to learn by yourself. I got an A but that was all because I studied by myself. He also gives an open-book midterm but the coverage is like 13 chapters so it's absolutely impossible. He gives extra credit but it's still not enough. You are being taught by your book and an online program
starts class late, doesn't teach. these reviews are accurate. do not take!
I would consider myself a very fair person who has good academic standing. I thought long and hard about the past professors that I would consider were bad in my opinion. This guy is the worst by a long shot. You will have to teach yourself the material and his personal test aside from the excel exam does not make any sense. Save yourself!
This teacher made me stress and cry everyday. I never thought I would hate excel this much.
NEVER TAKE HIM!! THE WORST EVER
He is one of the worst teachers I have had at USD. Lectures drag on way too long, does not know how to teach. His class is all over the place, at times he does not even know what he is doing. I would 100% avoid this class at all costs.
Super all over the place, doesn't teach anything. Unfair tests. One of the most frustrating classes I have ever taken. 100000% do not take.
Professor Rebman is a nice guy, just not a good teacher. He rarely lets you know when hw is due, and he rarely shows up on time. His grading system makes little to no sense. He runs all the grading through a website he coded and it is tough to decipher, when you are doing well. His class is too hard and he assigns alot of work. Don't take
I'd say I am a pretty good student, A's and B's mostly. to describe this guy in one word. the only the word that fits is trash. I emailed him at least 30-40 times throughout the semester and never got a response once. he knows he's on tenure and doesn't care about any student. unless you're a girl that talks to him.
Carl is a great guy, but if i didn't understand excel before taking his class I would have been screwed. There's lots of extra credit because without it everyone would have a C or D
I wish I could give him a -10.I'm sure he is a good person, but he is the worst professor imaginable. He is unorganized. His lectures were monotone, dull, and put everyone to sleep. Assignments were never clear. If he doesn't know how to do the myeducator assignments himself, how does he expect us to do so? Avoid him as your professor at all costs.
He is extremely incompetent, demands no respect, loses control of the classroom very easily. Not sure how he became a teacher, seems to lack basic skills on how to assist anyone.
Carl is very incompetent, lacks respect, and seems to be very new to teaching. He assigns more homework than necessary, and makes you use like 5 different websites to see and do the homework.
he has super bad ratings, but I thought he was a really kind & caring prof. I didn't put in too much work and received at A+. If you sit up front and talk to him, he will like you and you will do well! He talks about his family a lot. And is overall a really good prof and I easily passed MOS exam bc of him soo these ratings are weird..
He teaches in a way that feels very backwards. He will assign things before truly teaching the content, and then will spend the next class trying to teach the people who were confused. He also has a terrible time adapting and will get nervous and lose the class very easily, and especially in an online setting.
Do NOT take this teacher. Spend your money on a different teacher. Useless homework. He has no clue what he is talking about during lectures. Knows the material but can't teach it. Does not respond to any emails. Very unorganized. I wouldn't have guessed USD would have this bad of a teacher.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. A sweet person, but I'm honestly amazed he's still here. The professor consistently messes up the same homework we do. Incredibly confusing during lectures and can't control a classroom. Refuses to use blackboard and only uses a 2000s-esque site he made. Class is a joke you'll learn best by doing homework and ignoring him.
Dr. Rebman, though at first impression seemed tough, really cared about the success of his students! Especially during COVID and the toughness of online classes Dr. Rebman kept in mind these factors and how to help his students pass and learn about information systems. Though difficult at the beginning, he helps a lot if you show you care!
I agree with the other reviews. He's nice, but can't teach. He confuses himself with his own assignments and deadlines, and assigns way too much work. He doesn't respond to email, and shows up late to every class. I put in 5x the amount of work in this class than my other classes, and that's the only reason I did well. Save yourself and skip it.
Carl is a gem, especially for 320. He knows what he is doing, even if he doesn't explain it well the first time. Just ask, and go to office hours. The material can be hard and challenging, so definitely not a class to blow off. He will work with you and often extend deadlines if needed. 9/10 I would take him again for sure!
Professor Rebman is an extremely kind and caring professor who will put his students over anything. He wants his students to succeed. His website was a little bit confusing at the beginning but once you figure it out it is really easy to navigate. If you bring up any concerns with Dr. Rebman he will work with you to come to a solution and fix it.
A very kind and caring person. Unlike what others are saying he is not confusing if you have open communication with him. He can control a classroom but when he has 30 plus disrespectful kids in his class do you expect him to be able to do anything more about it besides kindly asking for attention and silence in the class. We love you Dr. Rebman
He is disorganized when it comes to assignment details and being clear about deadlines and expectations. However, He is very caring and understanding and cares that you do well in the class. If you talk to him and come to class, you will get an A or B in the class.
He's a nice guy but if you want/need to learn Excel, do NOT take him. It is pretty easy to get an A or B but you have to teach yourself everything. He is extremely disorganized. I received an A+ and I am "certified" in Excel, but I will be relearning everything during my winter break.
Carl is very disorganized and it ends up screwing you over the entirety of the class. He says he will give full credit on something no matter if youve done it or not, or the quality of your work. But then ends up taking off a ton of points for things he has not clarified whatsoever. He forgets everything and says he states his expectations, nope.
The worst. Lectures for LITERALLY less than a minute at the beginning of class. Starts an 80 minute class 15 minutes late nearly every time. Beware of the résumé assignment, he will say "it shouldn't be over two pages". He means is it shouldn't BE two pages. Mindtap and Gmetrix. You will learn Information Systems (boring), then Excel, then Access.
Throughout the entire semester, professor Rebman never once arrived or started class on time and would typically only lecture for about 15 minutes out of the hour twenty class, essentially wasting the rest of the time. He had no control over the class and it was difficult to learn even if you were focused. Most unorganized teacher i've encountered.
I don't understand why Carl was rated so low. He is such a caring teacher and very personable. Such a nice guy. His teaching strategy is different than others, and at first, I struggled. But with time, I was able to understand his style and really enjoyed his class.
I don't know why he is rated so low. Really cool guy and a cool teacher. So nice and very understanding of late assignments. Just wants everyone to get a good grade. There is work, but as long as you keep up and do things mostly around the recommended due dates you will do fine.
He was really unorganized, and the classes you just sit through with nothing going on. He is an easy grader, and is understanding if you're falling behind. He was average, and it's easier to succeed in the class; but he can be unorganized. Overall, the class was good and easy though.
He is super nice but very unorganized and always late but attendance is mandatory. Does very little to prepare you for the MOS exam. Gave me a 50 on an assignment because I didn't format my name in a specific way on excel. The homework assignment take hours to complete
This guy is so unorganized. That's the reason why this class is pretty frustrating. You will have to suck it up going to his class; find a way to be productive in there. It's very frustrating.
Skip him. Do not take him. Nice, easy assignments but randomly will take off 40 out of 100 points. he'll change your grade after you track him down 239485 times. many of my friends got a bad grade because of his random grading. you need to meet with him to do well. doesn't teach excel at ALL. you will need to teach yourself, or you'll fail the exam
Dr. Rebman is a very nice man, but extremely frustrating. Grading criteria unknown. Uses his own custom website that rarely operates correctly. Aloof lectures when he does lecture.
Dr. Rebman is a nice guy, but the class had little structure. Seems like 2 weeks of the class were a wash as he was answering questions due to his mistakes the entire class. Lots of unnecessary work. Again, nice guy and easy to work with, but he is all over the place.
don't take him, most unorganized teacher ever. Never shows up to office hours and doesn't respond to email. You never have a clue what the homework is and his website is constantly down.
He is very unorganized, but from my experience, he understands that he is. He gives his students many chances to make up work or try to get a better grade. He is late to office hours and class most of the time. If you just bug him with questions and be specific, you'll be okay.
Very unorganized and we often wait in awkward silence for 30 mins until he starts lecturing. When he's in a bad mood, explanations are condescending/rude. Never answers emails. You can get good grade bc gives you until end of sem to turn stuff in/exams are take home, but just know that this class is a joke and he does not care about teaching.
worst professor
I do not know how he has a job at this school. He was never on time for class, even for our final he was 15 minutes late. While grading he inputted the wrong grades for me for several assignments and it took him almost 2 months for him to change it. I had to pester him every class. Unresponsive to emails, it is like emailing a brick wall.
Terrible professor. I did most of the assignments, got good grades on them, did decent on the final and I got a C-. He has his own little website which is awful, you never truly know what your grade is. He is very unorganized. Cool person, terrible professor.
He just needs to get it together. He would come to class late and unprepared, wasting up to 30 minutes of class time. He would barely teach, this class was basically self taught. We would have hw due and he wouldn't tell us. If you're taking ITMG 100 just for the Excel certification, save yourself some stress and just do it on your own time.
Not accessible out of class. Ask him a question, & prepare to stand there for 30 minutes. He's lost at his own work and unclear with what he expects. It's self-taught, so make sure you put in the work before you get to Predictive/ADM. He makes random things for grades & forgets due dates he sets. Wait for Fall and take with Levkoff, TRUST!
By far my least favorite professor I've ever had. So unorganized, grading makes no sense(he doesn't even know his own grading rubric), lectures make no sense, and it's basically a self-taught class. Not only is it self taught, he'll also be a strict grader even though he doesn't teach. Do yourself a favor and take literally anyone else but him.
I dont know why Professor Rebman's ratings are so low, yes sometimes he was late to class. But he is a very caring person. I was struggling with an exam and he let me retake it many times. When you have a question he stops the lecture to make sure your up to speed. Hes a very nice Professor and i wouldnt say his class was difficult. Take him!
He doesn't lecture and lets you do homework in class. But all your doing is excel. It's kind of hard to lecture that. He's extremely lenient on late homework. He does grade on attendance but if you send him and email before you miss class it's usually not that big of a deal. Posts zoom recording of class
Overhated, basically the whole class is self taught and then the class itself you can do whatever you want
His rating is not accurate. Class was excel based so hardly any lectures. He gives you plenty of time to complete homework/assignments in class. Assignments weren't crazy. Really helpful with any questions. Super respectful and lenient. If you have the choice to take him I'd highly recommend it.
Rebman is a good, caring person, but he is an unorganized, messy Professor. His class would be good if he took the time to structure it. Offers extra credit of donating blood and making blankets for donation which is kind. Has a few fun presentation projects but the rest is excel and good luck with that because it is horrible.
Horrible class, professor rebman is a cool guy, but overall i do not recommend taking this class. He uses his own personal website (which is clearly dated) which makes everything a million times more confusing, I dont understand why he can't just use canvas. Overall I recommend taking with a different prof or just do intro to business
Dr. Rebman is the worst professor that i have ever had. He is very hot and cold and will often snap at his students. He wastes half of class responding to his emails or telling stories and then tries to cram all of class into the last 20 mins. You will teach yourself EVERYTHING. He'll enter your grade in incorrectly. His assignments are unclear. Jb
I did not learn anything from his teaching. Everything I learned is from teaching myself how to use excel from the internet and the online textbook. He is always late to class and to start lectures, doesn't attend all his office hours, and grades arbitrarily. But it is really easy to get a good grade in his class and offers lots of extra credit.
on my way to class i would hope to accidentally get run over by a bus so i wouldnt have to go
Carl is kind and approachable, but his class is difficult if you lack Excel experience. Grading criteria and due dates are unclear, and grades are hard to find due to website issues. He often starts lecture late, but extra credit makes earning a good grade easier.
