Feminist who always thinks she is right... not an enjoyable class unless you feel the same way she does about everything.

She only likes ugly and unpleasant people. So if you are one of those two things, you will succeed. She constantly talks about how awful her life was and blah, blah, blah. She also talks about her own opinion way too much. If you are scheduled to have her, I suggest you quit before you start.

going to class was pretty much a waste of my time. she assigned 3 or 4 papers had easy 5 question quizes and loved to talk for hours about nonsense. i wish i could have just written my papers and never gone back to class

Literally. The. Worst. Professor.... EVER!!! She does not even teach the subject that is assigned instead she talks about personal struggles and opinions. She is a flaming LIBERAL and is unprofessional in dress and conduct. I retook the class and earned an A+ with another teacher and actually learned sociology, something she never even talked about

Dr. Riden spends more class time preaching her own beliefs and belittling others instead of actually teaching the subject. We didn't use the textbook in class, but you'll need it to study for tests. I went into this class very interested in learning about Sociology and ended up disappointed.

She grades harshly, and if you do not specifically state what she wants, you are wrong. She does not help anyone, and told her students that we are not excellent, so we will not receive excellent grades. She goes off on too many tangents, and does not stay on topic.

If you are a straight white Male do not take her class, you will not do well no matter what. She claims to value opinions, but that is only if yours align with her highly liberal one. I would not recommend her at all. I only received a B because I argued that my test grades out weighed anything else she says by pulling up the syllabus.

Extremely liberal and opinionated, which she will share with the class. However, it makes her class interesting and bearable to sit through. She is not a good teacher though and has very little grades. There is only a midterm and final so this is a very easy class if you do well on those two tests.

She is the absolute WORST. She takes forever to grade, she never answers emails, and gives assignments last minute the day before it is due. I am a sociology major but if I can avoid taking one of her classes again I will do so because she is the most unreliable women on the planet. Wants "discussion" but only talks about herself.

I'm a socl major and this is the second class I've taken with her -both were bad. I'm trying to never take a class with her again. Her quizzes are only 5 questions, if you tank one you might as well drop the class. Her grade weights are also horrible and she takes forever to grade so you never no your real grade in the class. Never emails back

Riden is literally HORRIBLE. She grades so rough for somebody who doesn't even clearly state what the assignment even is. She spends the whole lecture talking about irrelevant topics that don't relate to what we are learning. 10/10 do NOT recommend EVER taking this class. ALSO on top of everything she cant even respond to any of my emails.

Awful. Never again will I take a class with Riden. She tells her students that she wants them to fail. She makes her political believes very clear. Tests and essays are extremely hard for no reason. She also makes connections to class material with disturbing topics. I will never recommend or take another class with her.

One of the worst professors at LU. You start off talking on topic at hand, but by the end you'll be listening to a lecture about potatoes. This is the second class I've taken with her and it was just as bad as the first. She does not clarify what she wants in assignments and rants about off topic subjects instead of ensuring you know the info.

I had Dr. Riden for two courses and honestly, I have learned nothing from her. In Soc theory, you essentially just teach yourself. She rambles on about irrelevant things that don't pertain to the course. She expects you to know everything about Sociology. I would avoid her at all costs! You will be lost and never responds to emails 0/10

She sucks, she gives too much information and expects you to know it asap. She's one of those teachers that think their class is your only class.

Literally do not take a class with her. She does not care about you, she won't even learn your name. She never stays on topic and she expects you to learn everything yourself. She'll go from talking about race to talking about coffee. Just don't. Please, save yourself.

Riden does not care about her students. She talks about how she wants you to participate in her class, but if you don't say exactly what she wants you to say then you are automatically wrong and she ignores you. She doesn't prepare students properly for exams. She is a difficult grader.

She does not care about her students. Longwood had to send staff to gather student feedback. She spent the next class session berating her students and gaslighting them on how they were wrong. She did not implement any of the feedback. Her exams do not correspond with her lectures. She rambles. Her tone is atrocious. Anxiety inducing. Beware.

Worst teacher I've had here. She is so biased so its better to not say anything or she will start an argument.

Do not take any of her classes she is not helpful and doesn't stick to the syllabus her lecture don't make sense most of the time and she is bad at answering emails she doesn't make attendance require so if this is your first class with her or in sociology come to every class

I'm currently in her class and we have an annotated bibliography that is due Monday (as no one knew about it), instead, we are talking about the article that we read last night. This class stresses me out so much, DO NOT TAKE HER. She doesn't post the notes until after the unit is done. Didn't prepare us well for the midterm and everyone failed.

this professor will not only teach you nothing, but give you a big headache along the way. they are extremely rude, self centered and somewhat immature. Always has to disagree with anything a student has to say, and the material is made up of her options and basic common sense. it was an easy A due to the generalized material. did not learn a thing

Do not take a class with her if you don't have to. Randomly assigns assignments with less than 24 hours to do them and they take a lot of time to do. She is not clear on what she wants for the assignments. Talks about her opinion during class rather than facts. She does not care about students feelings. Not a good professor to take a class with.

Right before exams she assigned a quiz due the night before and when she realized that SHE never posted a quiz she got mad and blamed her students for "not telling her". She assigned work and barely gave any instructions on how much or what she wanted on it.

This class was way harder than it should have been solely due to Dr Riden. Textbook made total sense; she, however, talks in circles and makes everything way more confusing than it actually is. Directions were often not clear, and critiques were given on assignments that either made no sense/did not apply or should have been in the directions.

Dr. Riden is the worst advisor I could have gotten out of everyone when I switched over to criminal justice. Please get a different advisor asap if you can.

You better do well on your exams, not many other assignments. Lectures are challenging to take notes on. She gets sidetracked very quickly, making students unprepared for the exams. Exams/quizzes are taken online with a lockdown browser and webcam.

This professor is always unprepared and tends to get sidetracked when they teach. They also rarely prepare students for their test and don't answer questions properly. I'm surprised they are still a professor, let alone an advisor. PAPERS ARE LONG.

This professor was extremely difficult to work with. They had little to no structure within class; posting 15 page readings 30 minutes before class, not many rubrics or instructions to test/assignments, extremely rude to students, etc. Along with that, our end of the semester project was a 62 page report that the whole class had to write together.

I don't know how Carl has a job. Terrible class. Lectures turn into unrelated personal stories and there's very little actual teaching or structure. Grading is harsh and unclear, with no feedback and no replies to emails. Unprofessional, disorganized, lazy, and extremely frustrating. Would absolutely not take again.

This professor is unprofessional. She does not even teach the subject, all she does s talk about her political views. If you do not agree with her political views she will not like you. she is rude. she doesn't answer emails. very vague in instruction but will deduct points if you aren't thorough enough. doesn't deduct attendance.

You will learn NOTHING in this class except the fact that she's queer and her political views.

She is an awful professor and grades based on political and religious views. Thank god I took sociology in high school because I didn't learn a single thing from her. She goes off topic all the time and then posts the notes the day before the quiz. Waste of money and by far the worst class I've ever taken.
