Oh my god! this guy is the proof that there are still awesome Prof's. Besides to the fact that he is H-O-T (SWEDISH) he is extremely funny and interesting.
I love him as a teacher. He actually makes it interesting and hes funny. Class is overall entertaining and i feel like i actally for once know something about my country.
Funny, charming, and is so dam kewl. He was a great teacher, had me laughing all the time because he brings fun into learning. Take Carl, I promise if you put the effort he wants in the class you will be fine.
Good professor, very funny, makes the class fun! There's two papers and one oral presentation, but he's a fair grader. Take him!

he is a great prof.
Ruteberg is the coolest professor in the entire lib arts dept! His class is easy if you pay attention and go to class. One paper-so easy-and midterm and final. He is really hot too which can sometimes make it hard to concentrate haha. HE talks wth the students and is kickass all around--Go Carl!
He is an amazing teacher. I've never learned so much in a history class. He's also not one of those who is out to get you, but out to help you. His class is easy but mainly bc he makes the class interesting and easy to retain the info.
Easy class, lectures keep it interesting with arnold schwarzenegger voice. Little homework, just a visit to the tenement museum and one presentation. Exams are all essays.
He is funny and make history interesting -- a subject I never liked until I took his class
Great Teacher. Had fun taking this class. His delivery is interesting, and given the fact that he is a total eye candy - none of us complained..... He is a fair grader, helpful and takes teaching easy - just how a liberal arts prof. should be!
Prof. Rutberg obviously loves his work. He makes a possibly boring subject interesting and he has a sense of humor. The ladies and the gentlemen are pleased.
The greatest man alive, should be president of the United States! Love the accent!
great class and Carl made history interesting, very sexy too, even the guys liked him
Here's one rating that's not based on his looks: He's one of the best teachers I've had. His class was the only one ever that I was disappointed when we were dismissed early. Extremly informative, interesting and funny. He actually got me thinking about minoring in history. YOU WON'T regret taking his class, believe me. I learned A LOT and enjoyed.
very easy going, doesnt really care if you miss class or come in late. hardly any work. very funny
Welcome to college. Three classes and you fail any other class at FIT, as well. Why would he let her make it up? Go to class. He's an amazing teacher, helpful, and makes the class interesting. In general and in Rutberg's class, do your work and you'll do well. He's not out to get anyone.
Easy class. Great professor. Really funny.
AMAZING guy. He is extremely funny, smart and he knows his history! Never having studied American history and never really liking the subject, I loved going to his class. He made it like a story so neevr got bored. extremely smart humor, i just crack up in his classes. makes you feel interested in his class. Id always highly recommend him.
This was such an amzing class. I learned so much, and I was excited to hear his fun history facts to pass along to friends. Take him, youll learn alot and the class is semi easy.
Loved him
HANDS DOWN this is the funniest teacher/class I have ever had. Professor Rutberg is hysterical and will have you laughing every class. He really knows his stuff and makes me actually WANT to go to class, even though it's at 9am on a Friday. Take his class if you can!!!!
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! This guy is hysterical, he has everybody in the class cracking up, I don't just mean a giggle here and there from a few students, I mean CRACKING UP every class. He's extremely intelligent, a snazzy dresser, and an overall really great professor. Seriously take his class!
GREAT! This prof is hilarious and entertaining. Super funny, interesting lessons, great stories. Presents lessons in such an entertaining way, you remember very topic. PERFECT!
Professor Rutberg is the definition of a GREAT teacher - I was not looking forward to having to take American History but this class honestly was a pleasure. He is SO funny and tells great stories. You will learn a lot without even realizing it! His creative way of teaching makes the information stick!
Gosh, he is the definition of perfection. All of his classes were just woah!. I took a winter class with him and looked forward to it every single day. I actually felt sad when it was over and I wish I could take another class with him! His classes are incredibly interesting especially because of the way he teaches! Just TAKE HIM!!
His funny, Interesting and approachable. His Class was a great experience.
Phenomenal teacher! I have never liked history until I had him as a teacher. He is such a funny guy and makes everything easy to understand and remember. His exams are basically "tell me what you know" so basically take notes and remember them. TAKE HIM! You will not regret it.
Carl Rutberg is truly the greatest professor at FIT. He is so funny and nice I took his class on Mondays at 9am and I looked forward to always going to his classes. I hope to have him again in the future because he is the best. His midterms and finals are long answer questions but if you take good notes you'll be fine! Don't buy the textbook.
This professor is amazing. Knows the material very well. Injects humor and keeps one entertained. I took this class on Monday evenings. So worth it. I learned so much. Grateful for professors who still care. Will never forget the experience.
Awesome teacher! midterm and final include several essay questions, but if you listen carefully during the classes, you'll be fine.
HE IS AWESOME AND FUNNY LOVE CARL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take him! He's funny, I had him for a night class so it went by very quickly. He makes the lectures interesting! There's only a midterm, final, paper and presentation and a visit to a museum. He grades pretty easily and as long as you pay attention you'll get an A. It's an easy enjoyable class.
Excellent Teacher. Very entertaining. Cares about the history. Makes if interesting for his students. Not so much work out of class, besides the usual Midterm, Final, and a paper. I would get the txbk if you want to be prepared for class and tests. Class participation not required, it's basically just a lecture-style class. I would recommend him!
reallyyyyyy easy!!! 2 papers that were so clear and simple one presentation based on one of the papers, and a written (short essays) midterm and a final all based on the lectures he gave in class, which were very funny
best prof i have ever had! i came into his class knowing very little about history but he really helped me understand and learn a lot. he keeps you interested the whole time (makes a lot of jokes) but expect to take notes. theres no textbook so you really have to pay attention to pass the tests.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Professor Rutberg has an amazing sense of humor and really makes the students enjoy learning. I've never really liked history classes, but while taking Professor Rutberg's course, I have really enjoyed it!! It's a lot of lectures (amazing ones), a midterm, two projects, a final exam and that's it. I would definitely take again!
Makes history entertaining. 2 papers and 1 presentation based off one of the papers. Midterm and final (short answer) completely based off the lectures so take good notes! dont need the textbook at all.
I had Professor Rutberg for American History and he gives great lectures. You will learn a lot from his class and his sense of humor is hilarious. He makes learning American History not boring. Highly recommend! Midterm and final are short answer, but as long as you take good notes you will be fine. Plus the textbook is cheap.
My best professor this semester. His lectures are very entertaining, he's a hilarious guy who makes learning about American history interesting. Never bored in his class. He's a fair grader, and always willing to answer any questions you have. Attendance matters.
I went to his first class, too. But my impression is very different. I found his comments inclusive and that he valued diversity. He might ask a lot, but this is college, after all.
He makes learning about American History interesting and entertaining. The two paper and midterm and final were very easy. Didn't do the presentation and I still passed with a B+.
Professor Rutberg is a wonderful teacher! It's evident that he really cares about his students and makes history exciting even for those who have struggled with it in the past. Only two papers that'll you'll enjoy writing and two tests that just require studying your class notes. He helped me appreciate America's diversity and is truly charming!
I usually am not a fan of history, but after taking Carl's class I began to love it. He makes lectures very relatable and very fun because of his hilarious puns. We had a midterm and final as well as going to a museum and another paper. The workload wasn't much but you really won't regret taking him! He's the best, I wish I could retake the class
I had him for the winter course. I actually did not mind waking up early and taking his class during the break. He would not use power point slides and actually wrote on the board and would keep the lecture interesting. I had one mid-term, final, and 5 minute presentation. The exams are all essay questions but it's nothing he didnt prepare you for
Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. He made learning history extremely fun and interesting. I'm never bored sitting in his class. He writes on the board and shows videos and is overall just a great professor. I wish he taught more classes I need to take because I would love to learn from him again. You won't regret taking him.
Best history teacher I've ever had, I wish he taught more classes. It's a lecture style class for the whole three hours but it goes by so quickly because he is truly knowledgable about the material and completely HILARIOUS. There was a mid term, final, and two assignments. Don't use your cellphone or laptop he does not look kindly upon it.
SO FUNNY. Loved Carl in class. Two rules: make one comment every class, and STAY OFF YOUR PHONES OR COMPUTERS. That is the one way to have a bad experience with Carl. Everything else was 11/10. Lectures the whole class (usually for two hours you will get out early) He makes the times pass at a moderate rate you will learn lots!
Rutberg was the best professor I've taken yet. Would 100% take another one of his classes, i've learned more in his class that I took over the winter semester more than I've learned in any other class.
So, Professor Rutberg. In one Word: eccentric. With context: Eccentric in the best way possible! Professor Rutberg is Amazing. He is passionate about the subject of history. He lays it out in an easy and memorable way. I never enjoyed history until I met this guy. He makes you think. I wish every class was taught the way he teaches.
He's a really great professor and super hilarious. He's really nice and will help you if you need it, theres literally only a midterm and final test, a museum essay and a project which was pretty easy.
Carl is by far my favorite teacher at FIT. He is super hilarious and entertaining. I have recommended two of my friends to take his class for the upcoming semester because I enjoyed his class that much. He is a little bit of a tough grader but as long as you participate enough and show that you're interested in class, you're good.
I just graduated from FIT and I have to say that no other professor's teaching methods compared to Professor Rutberg's. He taught us all on the basis of his memory, with a piece of chalk in hand and a massive blackboard behind him. You can get an easy A by being 100% attentive and just listening to his history story from beginning to end.
AMAZING professor! He makes the class very interesting and he is super funny! Definitely recommended!
Prof Rutberg is hilarious and has a vast knowledge of history. He is a very wholesome man and assigns wholesome projects. He doesn't allow any phones/laptops during class but that's for the best. VERY clear with grading expectations and with what you need to know for tests. I had a great time in his class.
Carl is an incredible professor, and certainly has a way with words. His lectures were detailed, enlightening, and witty - always grabbing attention through story-telling and quick videos. He made me very proud to be an american (took U.S. History Civil War to Present.) I even inquired about taking other courses by him but sadly he had none.
Professor Rutberg is literally the BEST teacher I've ever had simply because he makes typically "boring" American history lessons, inspirational and funny. He makes you appreciate American history and provides you with a clear understanding of it in a humorous way. Every class I left feeling inspired to be a better American citizen.
Love this professor. Says you need the textbook but I did fine on the tests without it, just take notes and you'll be set. He barely gives any work and he's super entertaining and funny. Gives great explanations of history. Love him would take his class again for sure.
The exams are fair however the questions are based on very heavy lectures, don't expect multiple choice, if you miss one class you're more than likely to have a lot of info missing. Don't make this stop you from taking the class! He is very funny and the lectures are very enjoyable and informative. Would definitely take this class again!
Prof. Rutberg not only teaches history but also critical thinking. His lectures are long but extremely interesting in the way he describes historic events. As long as you pay attention in his class and take good notes, you won't have a problem because he presents the material in a very memorable way. Best liberal arts class I've taken at FIT.
Amazing class. I learned so much. His lectures are never boring and very comprehensive. Every single person, student or not, should listen to his course just to understand what is going on in the country.
My favorite professor, I promise this is such an easy class. It is SO so interesting. His lectures are amazing and he teaches in the style of a story from early history to present day. He tells you that you should get the textbook, but you will be fine without it. No homework. A midterm and a final. One final project that is easy and fun. Take him!
Professor Rutberg was one of the best professors I have had at FIT so far. He is super passionate about history and somehow made me not dread my 6:30pm history class every Monday night. You have a midterm, final, one paper, and one oral history report. It's a great class and Professor Rutberg is THE BEST! I was never bored in this class.
Prof. Rutberg is the best. He's funny and teaches U.S. History like he's telling a story which made the class fun. As long as you take good notes you won't need the book and you'll pass his midterm and final. The only HW is a paper/presentation and a museum review. He believes in his students and our ability to create change. 15/10 would take again
Such a gem, made US history my favorite class I took that semester. Makes the content interesting and relates what is taught to today. If you have to take a history class take his.
One of my favorite professors at FIT! He is a very genuine person and you will learn so much about history and actually want to too. I genuinely looked forward to this class and I took it at 10am.
He really knows how to keep you focused on the topic he's talking about. The way he lectured is as if he was telling a story and it keeps you interested. From someone who hates history, this class was the best history class I've ever taken. There was only 3 big assignments I needed to do. No need to buy textbook because it's online.
Carl Rutberg is truly one of my favorite professors I've ever had at FIT. Had him for HI 208 301. He is hilarious and really wants you to succeed. He keeps you engaged during class and truly knows what students react well to. The textbook is online so you don't have to spend like 80 dollars on a book. His class has easily become one of my favs.
TAKE HIS CLASS! It will be the best decision! At first I didn't know how I could do a 3-hour lecture with no laptop or phone, but he is so entertaining and knowledgeable that it's SO easy. Everything on tests are what we discuss in class, so no need to read the book like crazy. He is inspirational, clear, and caring. I wish I could take him again.
AMAZING. He is one of the best professors I have had at FIT. He knows what he is talking about and gives very clear lectures and posts them online before the tests. His assignments are very simple and he provides us with very clear instructions. Only thing I did not like is that we have to take all notes on paper and no computers can be used.
Best profesor I've ever had. He is really passionate about the subject and teaches US history like he is telling a story. His lectures are super interesting and inspiring, plus he's a really funny guy. I just wish he taught more courses. Take him if you have a chance!
Literally one of the worst professors I have ever had here at FIT! Assigned me the wrong final grade and after I asked him about it , and he agreed to Make the change, he never did and then brought up an assignment that he had given me an A on 2 months prior.
One of the best professors I have ever had. After taking his class I have a much better understanding why our country is the way it is. To respond to a previous review, to get an A in the class you have to put in the work. But that is as it should be. Oh, make sure you register to vote -- Car requires it.
disrespectful & does not listen to his students needs. I put so much effort into his course and he will not give it back.
Each week there were lecture videos to watch, a chapter or 2 to read & 2 writing assignments to hand in. Some of the assignments were opinion-based, so I didn't understand his grading sometimes. He likes for you to include info from America now & from the textbook. A midterm & final. Requires you to register to vote and visit a museum (pre-COVID).
Professor Rutberg's class is a great history class for FIT students. It was a lot of work for a summer online class, but manageable. Not an easy A by any means. It's a history class so there is a decent amount of reading, and definitely watch and take notes from his lectures. There are weekly assignments as well. He knows and loves the material.
I need this class for a Gen Ed and I have learned so much from Professor Rutberg. He assigns weekly assignments and tries to get you to critical think by using civil history. Very chill professor and you should definitely take him.
Professor Rutberg was an excellent professor! He explained things very clearly and in an interesting way. He is extremely knowledgeable and will try his best to help you understand the context. He is also passionate about the context which makes the class so enjoyable! Without a doubt, I would take a Professor Rutberg class again!
Gives very clear and useful information, I have no complaints. Could be a tough grader, but if you answer the questions fully, youll be fine. Also was very lenient and helpful when I ran into problems while taking the final online. Highly recommend Professor Rutberg!
He's a great professor! He cracks jokes from time to time, & he's really nice. He talks about the week's topic for like an hour, then he opens the week's unit in BB. So class always ended early. The assignments weren't hard, and the midterm and final were similar to the HW questions. There was HW every week. But if you pay attention it's an easy A
Such an amazing teacher! He is really fun and makes lectures interesting. He's really nice and gives good feedback on work and things you may not understand. Easy class if you pay attention and do the work, usually just a small written response to a question. Take this teacher!
I took the hybrid class. We only had assignments with online lectures, the class is pretty easy no books had to be bought. 8/10
i really enjoyed prof rutberg's class, retaining a lot of history is hard for me most times and he made lectures really engaging and he was pretty funny too.
Very enjoyable class and professor. He made sense, answered any questions and most of all, you could tell he enjoys teaching. The way he displayed content and lectured was easy to follow and also comprehend. Assignments are easy as long as you pay attention, would definitely take Carl again!
Amazing professor. Super knowledgable, funny, and engaging. All assignments and tests were online and were pretty easy. Would take again.
Carl Rutberg is an amazing professor. Very interesting, great personality, very silly. I took him for American history through fashion and he is incredibly knowledgeable. His lectures are engaging and actually interesting. Only history class I have actually paid any attention in at FIT
one of my favorite professors at FIT, is super interesting and engaging. he's really into history so it makes it fun and he's super nice. just go to class and take notes and it's super easy :)
Although I did well, this was the oddest structured online class ever. Everything is due at 9am and posted at 9am. I missed a few assignments because of this. At least 4 of my friends warned me to take him in person not online.
I love his online class. He video tape lectures, so you feel like you are in the classroom. It is not boring like so many other online classes. And you learn a lot. Yes, you have to complete the assignments on time. But this is college.
His online class is great. Study history by looking at what people wore makes a boring subject interesting. Yes, you have to complete the assignments on time. But you have two days to complete each assignments, so as long as you plan your day, you're fine.
He was a decent professor, I took this class blended so we met half online and half in-person. You cannot take notes on computers, and had to hand write the notes. When we were in the class we didn't have homework and there was 1-3 assignments per week but were small. Need to give lots of info for these assignments.
