he gets really excited about his class! he's easy and gives out major bonus points!! take him, youll have fun and it will go by fast. Hes really understanding and very helpful. take him! plus he has a lil accent, hes a cutie!!
Philosophy shouldn't be boring and he absolutely doesn't present it that way. The class was interesting informative and you always knew what to expect of the tests. And yeah, he is cute.
Carl is so intelligent and energetic, he gets so into his lessons! He is very dramatic as well, it is so much fun to be in his class! I miss this class, I always looked forward to it very much!
do not take this class unless you want to be a Philosophy major or you like to pull your hair out. One class was spent on whether or not a chair was actually real!! I almost hit him with one to shut him up.Tests all essays real hard!!
Great teacher, provided an exellent basis for my philosophy studies and has helped me expand my horizons.
I thought that he is really nice and funny however it was hard for me to understand and the term paper was hard to write. We has to read phil articles that i did not understand at all. I studied very hard for his test which are not too bad and i did well.
I feel that he would be a really nice guy if you were to meet him outside of school. He has a way of making you feel stupid if you don't get what he is saying. I would only recomend him if you are realy into philosophy because he teaches you as if it is your major.
Don't take him unless you want to be a philosopher. He teaches it as if you were a Philosophy major. Wants you to write pages for essay questions. Boring class and he doesn't help you. Doesn't respond to e-mails. Drop his class while you can still get a refund! Proves that PHIL is a waste of $$$!
This class is not that easy. Carol is a very good teacher. I looked forward to going to class every week. BUT the material is hard and the paper is very tough too.He will help you if you ask.He is fair and you will enjoy his class. Just make sure you have time for this one!!
Carl is a very good teacher, he is so energetic and knowledgeable! He makes philosophy fun, and is always willing to take time to help anyone who needs it. Keep up the awesome work, Carl!
This man will open your ideas to what Philosophy really is: a method for ask questions and figuring out what your really know. Class participation was amazingly high. He required a lot of reading, i.e. every page in the textbook, but it was worth it. I recommend him highly.
I didn't care for his teaching style. Exams and papers were extremely difficult. I took the class during the summer, thank goodness I did it in 6 weeks instead of 15 weeks, I think I would have gone mad, if I had to listen to his lectures during 15 weeks. Didn't return e-mails. It was just a bad.
I was interested and eagar inlearning about philosophy until the first day of class with Thomas. You need a dictionary to keep up with his use of "festideous" vocabulary. Tests are extremely hard. Do not take this class.
I was dreading this class. It went from not so bad to a class I looked forward to attending. Carl has a way of presenting ideas and material so that we, non-philosophy majors can understand. If you take notes and study you will have no problem w/ tests/papers. He is one of the best professors ever
Carl Thomas presents Philosophy in a fun energetic way. His passion for the topic is incredible. He literally jumps around the room teaching it. He may come off as a hard teacher because he tells you the first day of class "If you don't like to read and write you might as well just drop the class right now" but he really isnt hard. Take his class!
Absolutely, hands down, best teacher ever. Anyone with half a brain and is willing to learn and grasp abstract ideas should take his course.
The class was ok, but extreemly hard! His handwritting was that of a seven years olds, and his vocabulary was that of a scholar, but both were impossible to understand. Although he did help me with my papers. He gave a good lecture, kept you intersested, but the tests were IMPOSSIBLE!

thought i was going to hate the class but its turned out to be really interesting. he is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching, which makes it alot easier to understand. some of the material is difficult to understand but he is willing to help you out if you need it, and gives a review sheet for the exams - good professor
he is a very good teacher
On the 1st day of class, I thought I was going to hate the class. By the 3rd class, I LOVED it. It's very interesting because Carl has passion for philosophy and it's evident. He's upbeat and outgoing. Study for the tests, take notes and you'll do great. The class is not cake, and that's why you'll feel good succeeding in it.
I personally do not like philosophy but I needed the course. Carl is a nice professor who keeps you interested. Although his exams are hard to because they are mostly essay's I would still say take him because he makes you laugh and do the extra credit and study your butt off for the exams.
Carl was probally the best teacher I had at Brookdale. He made an otherwise tedious and boring topic exciting and energetic. You've probally heard him screaming if you have passed one of his classes; he makes class great. Definetly a class to take!
Very cool guy. Very random. If you do not study your butt off constantly, you will fail miserably. TRUST ME.
Carl is a good teacher, but philosophy is his life, if u dont get it perfect you feel it in ur grade. Tests are EXTREMLY hard.. and trying to understanding is Complex vocabulary gets annoying very fast. If u dont study EVERYDAY u'll fail... have fun
this man said my class was the worst philosophy class he ever had...oh well. only one person past for spring 2006. he is very unclear, cannot teach..horrible..just horrible...DO NOT TAKE HIM
unfair. grades the same exact essays differently based on who you are. very arrogant when he has no reason to be
interesting class. but he is very abrupt and acts as though he is teaching at notre dame.. high expectations of students. i recommend taking another teacher!!!!!!
Carl Thomas is an excellent educator. He treats his students as equals. He is passionate, energetic, funny, and extremely helpful. He will bend over backwards for his students if he knows you WANT to learn. I highly recommend his class. I disagree with many of the negative comments written about him. He is a very FAIR teacher!
Carl is very passionate about his work, philosophy IS his life! His class was very interesting, he really knows how to work a lecture, but it was very hard. I failed! His tests are mostly essay. You have to be sure to study a lot and read the book over and over. I would recommend taking w/ Karen Sieben. Managed to get an A with her.
Carl is the best professor I have ever had! Many professors do not display 1/10th the amount of enthusiasm of Carl. He is approachable and accomodating when asked for help. He makes you THINK, something lacking in most classes these days. Any negative comments must be from someone who didn't want to work for their grade! It's called COLLEGE!
Carl is one of a kind, none of my other professors have shown half the enthusiasm and passion, that Carl has. This class is extremely hard as it is mostly essays. If you are up for a challenge take this guy, hes a great speaker, he makes a 3 hour lecture very fun, Only bad thing about this class is the hard exams, otherwise hes a great professor
What can i say about Professor Thomas...GO TEACH AT HARVARD or YALE!!! This is Brookdale, we are here for a reason...Very nice guy, extremely passionate about his work, he eats, sleeps, lives, breathes, and everything else philosophy...Throw your text book out and invest in a dictionary instead...Test = IMPOSSIBLE...Get another teacher
A good instructor but unquestionably not as good as he thinks. Smug and condescending, Carl outrageously undermines the abilities and knowledge of his students. It gets old fast. He's initially nice to look at but his personality makes it less fun.
well I have to say he is a very enthusiastic professor but quite honestly a pompous ass. His first words out of his mouth were that half the class would fail or drop his class...I guess he doesnt like to teach just dictate...
He really knows his stuff and teaches it well BUT, he is a very hard teacher. Take him if you really want to get something out of the class!
Gives a great lecture that is very thought-provoking and interesting. The tests are next to impossible, even if you think you know your stuff. My entire class failed the 1st exam. He has an extremely strict grading criteria for his essay tests. Do not expect to walk away with an A, even if you're a 4.0 student. Still, it's an intriguing course.
Absolutley loved Carl's class. It is even more fun when you become involoved and become part of the class. In order to do well and succeed in his class you need to read everything that is assigned, study for a few days before the exam and participate in the class.
He is prolly the most interesting teacher in the department and keeps class fun although the class is very challenging so prolly hardest teacher at the same time. Exams are 60percent written which I think makes it easier. You need at least 4-6 days to study for his tests. study and you'll do fine.1st test didnt study,48, last test studied and got 93
His passion for the subject is infectious and he has ability to make philosophy, one of the most challenging of all subjects, easy to understand. My only complaint is that he doesn't teach more classes! This class will require lots of studying and note taking and you'll do even better if you have someone to go over the material with, but, in the en
Prof Carl is very hard, so this is not a class were you can sleep through. He knows his stuff. Since the class was not my favorite I still had Prof Carl to look at. He is very cute!! Study every minute you can his test are very hard. This class will challenge your thinking.
One of the BEST professors I've ever had! Carl is intriguing and witty and bestows inspiration on individuals to think beyond their limits. Studying is imperative for this class, so make sure you set aside the appropriate time to do so. I also suggest reading the chapters twice and making note cards. Moreover, he is very HOT! Just PERFECTION!!!
Awesome teacher, and very enthusiastic. Just don't piss him off with asinine comments. Papers are tough, tests are tough, and if you don't study, it will be the kiss of death! Keep up on your reading, and re-read stuff again and again, things will sink in. This class has improved my reasoning, literacy, and vocabulary lol.

very difficult prof., loves what he does but does not care about you or your grade. favors students. DO NOT challenge or make suggestions about anything he says, he will embarass you. over study for exams.
the dude is the man! go buy a wakeskate Dr.Carl......
Extremely hard class, but you will learn more there than most other courses. Worth failing, if I dare say..
Oh my god, I learned so much from Carl, he was just an awesome teacher all around. His tests are really hard, but in the end its about the learning and not the grade (at least according to him) but I really did love this class and I did really well, so anyone who says your garunteed to fail with him is full of it. I'd def take him again
The class is full of challenging topics and study guides. Professor Thomas ensures respect for the skill of critical thinking. This class should be required. Participate, study, better understand yourself, better understand your world, and leave this class with improved life-skills. This is no easy A; no walk in the park. Care enough to think.
Carl was very nice, and down to earth. I could truly tell he was excited about what he is teaching.Set aside a good ammount of time to study, his tests were a bit challenging!
C.G.R. Thomas reminds me of Patrick Bateman from the Film American Psycho. A brillant psychopath who knows everything. A man of his word. I reccommend him to all who seek lasting impressions.
I took him from 105 and did really well, so when I took 115 I kinda expected the same thing. I was wrong. He takes his 115 class very seriously. He teaches like your at an Ivy League school and expects 110% of your effort. He doesn't take any excuses. He did give some extra credit. Overall he's a really funny and entertaining.
Very difficult tests but you will learn a lot about Philosophy. He's a very nice guy and willing to help if you have questions. If you don't feel like working very hard do NOT take this class. You probably won't get an A even if you do. There were 25 people in the beginning of my class and everyone dropped it before the drop date except 3 people.
This class is not easy, but he is very intelligent. He will definitely challenge you. The best part of the class though, HE IS BANGIN' HOTTTT!!!!
This was, hands down, my favorite class of the semester. Carl is crazy- it's awesome. He clearly loves what he does and makes class fun and interesting. The tests are difficult and be prepared to put aside a lot of time for studying but its definitely worth a semester with this guy. I recommend Carl to anyone who wants to take this class
OMG! Carl! gotta love the guy. the material is a bit on the tough side, but his humor and charisma make it all worth it. between his entertaining tangents, Canadian accent, and scholarly-mentality, it?ll never be a dull moment in the classroom. he?s also open to giving extra credit and offering second chances. choose Carl?you won?t regret you did.
This school's best teacher. He's funny, smart, and loves his work. He is always available for extra help when he's not teaching one of his 8 classes. If you have any interest in philosophy at all, he is the man that should introduce you to it. Read the book, pay attention in lectures and enjoy. Not an easy A!
Took his course in summer of 2007; got a C+ because I didn't study for one test. However, since then, I have held a cumulative GPA over 3.9 at BCC and now MSU, and I attribute this change in my work ethic to his rigorous work-load and expectations. I have treated other courses like he taught me to treat his own, and have only found success. Thanks!
awesome
Professor Carl Thomas was my favorite professor of the semester. i leanred alot about philosophy and about myself through his humorous examples and perseverance. Carl, thanks for a great class! you rock! i would recommend him to anyone who really wants to learn about philosophy the fun way!
where to start..knowledgeable,amusing,interesting, helpful even though this material is NO JOKE.he makes this class enjoyable. He seems like a tough guy and really just wants to see who would stick it though.i think he just talks a tough game to see those who are up for the challenge. OVERALL AWESOME & HAS THE BEST ACCENT!
won't help when you ask for it. relies majorly on the learning assistant to answer any questions which gets pretty annoying.
This professor is def. one of a kindd!! his out look on life is greatt!! i love his jokes and his referances to people who are morons!! i have a lot of encounters with stupid people and it becomes rather annoyingg! he has given me the skills to challenge people and what they say and believe .. i wish this course was required by every student!!
Worst online course I've ever taken. He does not tell you what is expected before hand, and his comments on assignments are useless. He is also terrible at answering questions and is not helpful at all.
He is the best at his subject and is funny as hell. He doesnt care if you come to class, but your not smart if you that,/. His class is always, always interesting and entertaining. Reading intensive...i learned the hard way. Carl is awesome thougg =, besides being hard as hell
One of the best professor I've ever had. If you are lazy don't take him because it is a lot of work but he challenges you so if you like school, take him. Hard grader but helpful if you ask for it.
He is the WORST TEACHER EVER!!!DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN FOR ANY CLASS AT ALL!!!!! I am A-B studebnt and I will be lucky to pass this class!!!He is REDICULOUS!!!!
hardest teacher ive ever taken at brookdale .. hes kind of degrading with his students and makes them feel dumb where i didnt wana ask ques or have opinions in the class.. the tests and paper was ridiculously difficult .. i had to drop it since i studied and still got a 40 on the first test .. you legit have to eat sleep breath phil for his class
This guy is awesome.... not a teacher for everyone but he's a hard core college professor so be ready to do some old school essays and LOTS of them
He made his course way too hard for first year students. He always spoke in a manner that suggested he was superior and it reached a point where I didn't want to ask a question or voice my opinion because I'd feel dumb.. I failed because he never prepared us for tests, evasively replied to emails and segued completely off topic in class
he alright
I loved him! He was so clear. Although he expects a lot from you but..hey we are in college now. He is fantastic!
For someone who is merely an Assistant Professor at a community college, Carl has a very high opinion of himself. And for someone who demands "scholarly excellence" from his students, I found it interesting that I could find no scholarly publications written by this teacher. AVOID!
One of my hardest classes yet. He does go over some interesting things but its too much at once to remember everything and if you don't read the textbook your going to have a harder time. He is a bit cocky and can be insulting. Basically its hard to get a good grade based off the fact that you'll only be graded off of 3 tests and one 6 page paper
I have nothing wrong with intellectual professor who have a passion in their expertise. What bothers me is his arrogance, who blames students for his failure in getting the class to understand the material, and insult other credited professors, including that "they are insulting students for babying, and should be quartered, hanged, tied, etc"
AWESOME! Really made me think about my views on the world. He does ask a lot of you as far as the reading material goes...but its all insightful. I could see how some people feel rubbed the wrong way by his demeanor...but it seems like its the students who thought they were taking an easy class. He is very passionate! So take it seriously!
Do everything you possibly can to avoid this class. His tests are geared predominantly toward his "notes" as opposed to the extensive readings in the textbook. His arrogance is presented in the class and in the questions on the test (which is obnoxiously opinionated).
Great teacher, knows his stuff and is extremely entertaining. You can't go into his class without expecting to work for your grade.
The way he teaches is interesting and entertaining. If you study, you'll do fine on his tests. I recommend him for people who are used to sarcasm and for the people who needs philosophy. The students who complained about him for 105 might have not put a lot of effort into his class because his class ain't hard, you just need a lot of commitment.
Carl is exactly what I think a college professor should be like, he is old school. I am a med student and I took this class for the hell of it. I wish he had more class participation, but all in all he is a really passionate teacher, just work hard and study and you'll be okay. Also, if you need his help don't be afraid to ask, he won't bite :)
If you don't have a genuine interest in learning, don't take his class. If you aren't going to constantly revisit your notes and patiently work through the readings, don't take his class. He expects you to work hard, and he won't tolerate unjustified complaints. He's intelligent and passionate, and is always available to further discuss anything.
This is a good class to take if you want to learn a lot. The concepts we learned were fairly difficult, but Carl explained it them in a way that made them relatable and easy to understand. You really have to study and work for your grade but in the end it is worth all of the hard work.
Anyone who says a bad word a/b Carl simply has no understanding of anything. Carl is old-school but arguably the most intelligent person I've ever met. His ability to make concepts come alive is simply astounding. Difficulty? Very difficult. Being a more well rounded person and seeing things for how they really are? Worth the difficulty. Respect.
Definitely not an easy class, but it's worth it to work hard because the material is interesting. Carl doesn't deal with BS and teaches extremely well. He is very sarcastic, but it won't be directed at you unless you deserve it. Anyone who complains about his grading clearly didn't work hard enough. Not an easy A, but I'd still recommend him.
He may be knowledgeable as far as content goes in a regular class but has no idea how to teach an online class. Does not get involved in discussions whatsoever. Gives absolutely zero feedback on discussions. Leaves you with more questions than answers and even if you do study, which i studied a lot, i still had a hard time passing his exams.
You'll either love him or hate him. Stay away if you don't want to be challenged. By far the most rewarding class I've ever taken. He expects nothing but excellence and never acts like it's out of your reach. I think "obnoxious" is completely incorrect. He's enthusiastic. Perhaps you dont have a sense of humor. Also, hes smokin' hot.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN. He is pompous, berating, and full of himself. No matter how much you study for a test you will still fail. Horrible at answering emails, and when he does they are vague and does not address the question.
This is too tough for a community college online class. Carl is too strict with his grades and doesn't make any useful comments on our essays. Telling us to "Raise the Bar" isn't helpful, and I haven't gotten much further via E-mail. He also doesn't even post on the discussion forums. Do not take this class unless you want an extreme challenge.
Sounds full of himself and arrogant butreallyis a caring and down to earth guy. Really cares only aboutyou learning. Doesn't baby his students but is fair and helpful. Even says himself thathe is one of the toughest professors on campus. Definitely achallenge but worth it. A's are earned NOT GIVEN. Class is insightful, interesting, fun. Trueprofessor
He is possibly the hardest grader ever, I am an english major and i never failed an easy before his class. My class had take home tests and I still failed. but he is by far the very best professor i have ever had. do the readings, put time into this class, go to the lectures and you'll pass. his lectures are fun and he is fun and amazing and hot.
Ok so upon my first day of the semester and after reading reviews, I thought this guy was gonna suck. Turns out he is actually a really chill professor. Does not care if you come or not it's your grade. Also I have to say, I walked out of this class with actual real life knowledge. He also made me realize I'm utilitarian. Great prof. Giddy up! Lol
Ive taken Carl twice in my time at brookdale and they were my best two classes. I passed, not by much, but it took hard work to pass. This is not an easy A class but it is so well worth the time. Probably the only professor i actually learned something from. If you don't mind putting in extra effort, he is by far the best professor at brookdale.
loved this professor he really cares... very honest, and helpful
He is a great professor, very knowledgeable and he knows what he is talking about. I had to drop the course because you have to be super committed to the class. Honestly, you can learn a lot from him though as long as you have the time to do the work. I suggest taking his class and maybe one other class.
Funniest and coolest professor you'll ever have. You MUST read the chapters to pass. His jokes are hilarious!
I took the online class and its very hard to understand, i have had no help Anyone can teach this class even if your not a teacher, just tell students read chapters in a book and post online about something you read. if you dont get what you read then you just fail the course.
He's the funniest man I ever met. Speak up in class and he will help you out. Listen to what he has to say. I really should have probably failed but I work really hard in the end and ended up with a D. Work hard all semester and you'll be okay.
He didn't TEACH this course; he posted assignments. Errors in writing of quiz/test questions, then marked by computer. It took many days or weeks for him to answer emails and correct grading errors . His only teaching input all semester was ONE comment in a Disc. Forum. Read all assigned readings. Hard class, no help. You're on your own.
I learned a lot in Carl's class but he is a complete socialist. His lectures tend to go off about his political views. He despises big business and I'm an economics major so I often disagreed with his views. He reminds me of Bernie Sanders but besides his political views he's a great teacher. You can tell he's an Oxford and Cambridge graduate.
He knows his stuff but is a hard professor. Get ready to read a lot and think. His lectures are great and he always works some hummer into them as well. YOU NEED TO READ THE TEXT BOOK TO PASS THIS CLASS.
Great teacher that allows you to meager his class with a better understanding of the world around you. He's tough, but pushes you to do work he's knows you're capable of. 10/10 would take his class again!
Professor Thomas was by far the best professor that I've ever had. Taking his class was the first time since I've been in college that it didn't feel like a high school class because he doesn't spoon feed you the information. His course is incredible difficult, but entirely worth the struggle. Thank you professor for teaching me not just passing me
Animated. Enlightening. Passionate about Ethics! Makes the material fun & relatable to life. Extremely funny & witty! WILL NOT SPOON FEED YOU! You must put in the WORK! 1 Mult. Choice Exam with essay. Exam 2 & 3 are take home written exams. 1 Extra credit assignment. TOUGH GRADER, but the true meaning of a professor. Not to mention, very handsome.
Literally the best philosophy professor you will ever have. Yeah he makes you work for the grade, but I learned more in that class than in 2 years of college. Oh and he is hysterical.
The majority of my classmates and I needed Ethics for nursing school requirements. I almost did not get in because of this grade. His exams were extremely different from his lectures!! I read the chapters, attended every class, and took organized notes and still had trouble. I recommend another prof if you need to pass this course.
Carl is a smart guy and he's very passionate about philosophy. He wants everyone to learn and get something out of the class. Yes his test are hard and he's a tough grader. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU AREN'T WILLING TO WORK. He makes you really work for your grade but it's worth it. He's hilarious though, I'd totally take him again.
If you believe that the film "Taken" is an accurate reflection of reality, then your in for a treat. (He referenced this film 3 times in class) Bizarre & unbearabley pretentious he takes every opportunity to mention that he went to Cambridge & That it is was (big surprise) much harder than Brookdale. What you need to study is a mystery.
This is the second time I've taken a philosophy class by Professor Thomas, and once again it proved to be one of the more fulfilling classes I took during the semester. While it is true that he can be a rather difficult grader, he explains the content wonderfully and gives a structured guideline for the student to learn outside the class. Reccomend
I honestly feel like I wasted my time in this class.I was disappointed that we did not go through the complete syllabus. Class was canceled fairly often, and when we did have class, half the time was spent on him telling stories. 2/3 tests were take home essays; he does not offer criticism for points taken off. Really unprofessional and arrogant.
Carl is definitely one of the toughest professors I have had. He is passionate about philosophy though and wants you to understand. If you're looking for an easy A then I would not suggest taking him. He's a tough grader, but a down to earth guy.
Could be funny at times, but very arrogant. He's one of those teachers where I was afraid to ask a question. Obviously knows his stuff, but I feel like it was impossible to get an A or even a B in this class, he made it hard to pass with a good grade, absolute GPA killer. Extremely tough grader, avoid avoid avoid
Hardest professor I've ever had and I would NEVER take him again. He is arrogant, self centered, and does not want to hear your opinion. It's all about him and his opinions and if your opinion differs from him you might as well keep it to yourself. Although he is very passionate about philosophy, he is just not great professor. I regret taking him.
Professor Thomas is an excellent teacher. He provides in depth lectures and leaves room for discussion. Although he is a tough grader, he is never unfair. If you read the material that Professor Thomas provides and write your essays to college standards then you are sure to pass his class. He challenges the intellect while making class enjoyable.
A genuinely fun professor that runs a genuinely fun class. Pay attention and listen, take good notes, STUDY for the tests and you will be sure to do well. He is NOT an easy teacher, but if you attend class (which is not mandatory) and you genuinely try to be a decent student and study the material, you will do absolutely fine. Work for your grade.
Class as a whole wasn't all that challenging, just be sure to pay attention to the lectures and memorize the fallacies when you get there. He does have a tendency to get a bit off topic and the lectures tend to get out a bit early. The course is test-heavy, only 4 tests total but he drops the lowest score. Oh and dont skip the lectures
This was a tough online course. I wouldn't take it again. Definitely excessive for an into course. not even sure how I ended passing carried a solid D through most of the course and that was with a tutor and giving it solid effort.
Hardest professor I've ever had and I would NEVER take him again. He is arrogant, self centered, and does not want to hear your opinion. Basically yelled at me like i was a child when meeting with him. I regret taking him.
I took this professor last semester and he was horrible! He is hyper-critical, condensing and sometimes even rude. He has unreasonable expectations for a intro-level class in a community college. He speaks to you as though you are beneath him. He is very long-winded, which can lead to confusion for his tests. This was an online class.
Very sarcastic! Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's too much. There's 3 tests and a paper. He drops the lowest test. He doesn't care about attendance, I missed 3 classes, still got a B-. I'm sure if I attended every one and studied more I'd get an A. Also wording on tests were confusing, pretty hard tests. Me getting a B- honestly surprised me.
Carlito is a superb prof. His classes are difficult, though not impossible. I was hardly cranking out a C for most of the sem but ended with an A because I was committed. He loves his job and wants to spread the power of knowledge and truth. If you're willing to do the work, you will leave the class as a better informed and more intelligent person.
He will drop the lowest grade bc everyone gets a low grade. When we had our test returned to us he screamed and yelled at us telling us how much we suck in a dehumanizing way. Disrespectful to the class/not professional. I never used this site but now he has shown me a great reason for it. I promise a dysfunctional experience.
Great, if you prefer your professors to jump up and down yelling like a petulant child all semester. Will refer to opinions as objective facts. Will those with opposing viewpoints to be wrong, and stupid. Nice enough guy. Smart guy. Poor educator.
Tons of essays that you have to read in addition to the chapters. He talks about fishing, his golf trips during lectures (basically talks about everything other than the material he has to cover). Exams are extremely difficult (MC, T/F, and 2 essays ->3 pages at least). Started the class with 28 students. Finished with 8. The highe grade was a B-.
I ended up dropping this class halfway through the semester. I studied my butt off, and would still fail his exams. I followed the guide he provided and read the material he gave, but his exams were extremely difficult. He's a tough grader, even on discussion posts. I've never had a grade below a 60 in any of my classes, but his I did. don't do it.
He barely assigned any assignments expect for 4 exams and one essay. He talks about nothing relevant in class and he does not make what is expected to be read over or learned clear. You would have a better time in this class if you just took it online since he never even mentioned the book in his lectures.
Carl isnt a bad professor. But his exams are extremely tough and he never even discusses the textbook material in class. He is a great person and he is funny but i definitely DO NOT recommend taking his class unless you want to set yourself up to just make a passing grade!
Professor Thomas was one of the best professors I ever had at Brookdale. While reading these reviews I was surprised and thought they were unfair. He resonates with the true meaning of a professor; one that is highly dedicated to his subject and his students, which is why he asks much of his students. With diligence, you will pass; HE is worth it!!
Professor Thomas (who prefers to be called just Carl), is one of the worst educators I've had the 'pleasure' to be with. Rather than focus on the core material of the course he chooses to often, in every class, go off on rants about everything from his hatred of his own family members and neighbors to how inefficient and unorganized the college is.
He loves what he does and is so passionate about ethics. Passing ethics is more so on the student then the professor. You must devote a lot of time to the chapter reading, passing this class requires more time then anything because of how the text book is worded it could be hard to understand. Carl clarifies the text and gives great examples!
Carl was amazing! He gives great examples for each chapter required to read. Reading is very important! You MUST devote time to reading because ethics is tough to understand! Carl is passionate about teaching and his lectures are entertaining and funny! Overall I enjoyed class, reading was hard to grasp but like I said reading is key to passing!
Sitting through 3 hours of Carl complaining about not liking his family's cooking in Canada was a challenge. There's not many assignments so if you mess up on one it's over, idek how I got a C tbh. He also brings up how he has 8 classes to grade like that is our problem. Had to wait 2 weeks post semester to get the final grade, I'm glad it's over
Guys a total narc - wouldn't recommend this guy. His twist on teaching ethics consists of him bringing up the "ultra conservatives" and the "radical right" as a form of pushing his political agenda onto younger students. I've never seen an ego on a philosophy professor in my life; he will talk down to you as if your his pet and humiliate students.
'carl' is the rudest professor i've ever had. he expects you to print way too many extra readings. i will admit his lectures were great and made it easier to understand the material but he is an insanely tough grader. i had to drop because i would've failed from there only being 3 huge and difficult tests and no assignments. would never take again.
Professor Thomas is passionate about ethics, but his class requires a lot of reading and effort. Attending lectures and using tools like unstuckstudy can help with the challenging exams. Overall, it's a rewarding but demanding course.
When it comes to philosophy, he's as deep as a bowl of soup. Narcissist to the extreme, thinks he is so cool/smart but teaches classes at brookdale. He talks the entire time and does not foster class discussion nor will he explore ideas with you. If you have any political opinions that do not line up with far left woke BS, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Carl is an amazing professor, hands down my favorite professor I have had the pleasure of taking here at Brookdale. Like others have mentioned, Carl is a very difficult grader, and please understand that you MUST do all the readings to be successful in this course. Multiple choice questions are very ambiguous, but it is possible to do well.
He's good I liked the class and all
I took his class as an online class, there are ZERO assignments other than to read your book and supplemental readings, no modules of any kind. no discussion forums, nothing. There are 2 quizzes, 3 exams and a paper. So if you don't do well. you will fail. He class may be better in person, but definitely do not take online.
