Hard class, lenient grading

Online math class. Awesome teacher. He held webinars at times that we requested. Always answered questions. Really promoted critical thinking. Still in contact with him. Also very understanding and relatable. Wants you to "be good" at math.

I HATE math ( I wish I loved it!) and I was really scared to take this class. If it wasnt for professto Yuan, I wouldnot have been able to get through. It checks on your progress and does what he can to help you pass.

Homework doesn't have to be turned in. You need to post usually one problem from the assigned sections in the forum. No more than 4 per week. Weekly multiple choice quizzes. No midterm. Teacher answers your emails within 48 hours, comments on forum work.He is very approachable even though this is an online class. He wants his students to pass.

This class was hard, however, Professor Yuan provided excellent lesson instructions and extremely helpful podcasts. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

This was definitely a difficult class but with Mr.Yuan's continuous weekly podcasts and emails, this made things a whole lot easier and understandable.

Got off to a rocky start but thanks to the support of Professor I did well I think.

Mr. Yuan was very helpful throughout the course. He also stayed very involved during the course. He has great communication with the students.

Good Teach! This class is not easy, there is a lot of work but the teach is will to help and shows a genuine concern for how students are doing in class. And since it is online he puts his lectures on a pod cast so you can watch like your in class

I wish that I could continue with Mr.Yuan into college algebra. Unfortunately, they are not offering it this summer online at BBC. I love the fact that he took his time to create a study group on FB. He is always there to help us with homework! I also like the fact that part of our homework is to post problems from the book that we have solved.

He was very easy to talk too and promptly answered questions. His lesson greatly helped with learning. Wish all instructors were like this.

The most involved teacher I have ever had! Math is my least favorite subject and he is making it a plesant experience. I have never had an online experience like this one where the professor was truly engaged in every way possible throughout the entire course. Very proactive and cares about each student's outcome.

The lectures were really helpful. And there are no deadlines! You have the entire nine weeks of class to turn in absolutely everything, and it doesn't affect your grade. My only problem was that some of the lessons were a bit garbled because the math symbols didn't display correctly, but it's not a huge problem and it's pretty easy to work around.

Online Math is not the best way to go if you can help it but Mr. yaun does pretty much everything he can to help you understand the lessons and there are no deadlines, you just work along as you go

I havent done a math course in 8 years, I have had Mr.Yuan for Math50 and 55, and he has clarified and explained math better then any math teacher I have ever had.

One of the best and most helpful teachers so far, I only wish I had him for math 50, it would have made this class a whole lot easier. Quick responses to questions, really seems to care about the students grade and understanding of the material

A teacher who will do all he can to make sure you succeed in his class. This was an online class out of town (30 miles away) He has a reviews every week at the campus and and other locations (not mandatory He is available by e-mail, and his Facebook group just for this class. Quiz corrections allowed for better grade. Best class ever!

Probably one of the best professors around, Mr. Yuan was the perfect combination of tough, fair and hilarious all rolled up into one. I couldn't have asked for a more caring and dedicated instructor. I wish he had a Master's in everything, that way he could be my professor in all of my courses!

One of the best teachers!!! The class is not easy, but the teacher helps with everything, always answer emails and even phone calls! Recorded lectures and online lessons really help in learning and is more then enough, you don't really need a textbook, well you need it for homework! In one word very good teacher with good understanding to students.

Mr. Yuan is a really fair professor. You need to do all the discussions and all the quizzes to get as much points as possible just in case you don't do that well on the final. If you live nearby he sets up study groups. He makes podcast available to review the lesson. Allows you to retake quiz for a better grade. Put in the effort and you'll pass.

Mr. Yuan is a great teacher. He gave us every opportunity to succeed by offering live reviews of the curriculum, podcasts, and even created a facebook study page to allow for free use communication between himself and fellow classmates. Never a lapse in communication through the entire online semester which is very important to do well in the course.

Even though this is an online class, he goes above and beyond to personally help, by meeting students for live tutoring at several libraries. If you have a busy schedule, this class is ideal for you, because Mr. Yuan do not have restrictive deadlines, so you can you can take this class at your own pace.

Prof. Yuan is a great teacher! I took his class online; and I am horrible at math! He was always available to help and help live reviews. Highly recommend.

Class grade breakdown is 50% final exam (skip the final, fail the course). Quizzes are weekly, but he allows corrections on missed questions to improve your grade. No homework (his classes are 9 weeks in length), but the discussion questions are based on the book assignments. He goes out of his way to visit in area cities for study sessions.

I highly recommend this instructor. The class was difficult and there was a lot to do in 9 weeks, but he let us re-do missed quiz questions for full credit and only required posting 3-4 questions per week on the discussion board. I took the class online and was too far away for the tutoring but he made himself available at several locations.

Mr. Yuan is a very clear instructor. He give's many chances to learn and improve your grade. I would highly recommend this teacher.

You will need the textbook (Used is okay, he doesn't use MyMathLab) and know your word problems: on a lot of the quizzes, they make up half of the questions. (The problems aren't terrible: most word problems in the text are the same level as pre-Algebra.) If translating word problems are an issue with you, find another course.

It was a pleasure being able to learn from Professor Yuan. He was very helpful and quick in responding to students despite his large classes. He is very organized and gives you links, materials and info you need to succeed in his class. He is really intelligent and an awesome professor.

I couldn't have wished for a better instructor. Professor Yuan was upbeat, methodical, patient, consistent and welcomed questions. He worked hard at helping me grasp the concepts he was teaching and made class both meaningful and fun. I never thought I could make it through a stats class, but I did and it's a credit to him.

Amazing Teacher. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Answers questions clearly, and in a timely manner, usually same day. Gives you an optional lectures on Saturdays in various locations, so his distance students can learn. The only way to fail his course is if you simply don't care to do the work. Best teacher on campus.

First off, I just want to start off by saying he is VERY flexible! If i ever needed any help he was a calltextemail away !!! Math can be tricky and sometimes you just need a refresher course and he explains everything well.

Excellent Professor! I have always had a hard time with math and Prof. Yuan make learning so much fun and easy to understand. Professor makes it difficult for anyone to fail. Amazing communication with students and unless you procrastinate until the last weeks of class you should be able to pass. Podcasts sent via email every week by the professor are great!

Mr. Carl Yuan is one of the most inspirational teachers I have ever came across. The way he teachers is very understandable. I desire for him to teach me all of my other math classes. His Facebook live videos is very useful.. At any given moment, no matter what time of the day it is, he is willingly to help out his students with their questions.

His lectures were detailed and helped clear concepts that you may not have grasped strictly from reading. He is also readily available for any questions you may have.

even though this was an online class i feel like i really had a more hands on and accessible help from a teacher in this class versus some of my actual classroom setting classes. with a mix of FB live podcast, active on discussion board and his tutorial videos , with the help from him this class was alot easier to digest such a difficult subject

Prof. Yuan was an awesome instructor to take for Math 2 at Barstow Community College (online). It is tough, as you have to keep up and understand what is going on, but it was a great and easy class! Glad I chose to take it with Carl Yuan. Social media is a biggie in this class, so its what makes it fun!

Gives extra credit opportunities and no deadlines on assignments, but you should keep up so you don't get left behind on the lessons. Great humor overall great class for such a challenging subject. Best advice I can give is stay on top of the material, ask questions, get tutoring and you will be fine.

Best ever! I was hesitant to take math online ESPECIALLY Statistics, but Professor Yuan is simply amazing. Hes super chill and I loved his style of teaching, it was something refreshing. The book is more for your own advantage, but he teaches through FB live lectures and YouTube. He incorporates social media which makes the class activities fun!

If you are a new student please don't blow off the class or the teacher that's what causes mean teachers. He is the best math teacher I have ever had. It was my first-time taking an online class which was scary for me, later I go use to know the knowledge about the online course. If you take his class you will definitively pass, which includes quizzes, discussions, and a final. Overall, the best professor I have took.

There was a total of 45 extra credit points to be earned this term. He gives rundowns of the quizzes each week. He also has videos explaining the lessons as well as podcasts and PDFs. He is very active outside of class and responds to students quickly. If you can keep up with the work, which is all due end of week 9, you can pass with an A easily.

You can tell that he wants all of his students to pass by giving extra credit, extra time to do weekly assignments without penalty and allowing quiz corrections. There is multiple resources he offers and he is always available. I messaged him on facebook a couple of times and he responded within a couple hours. The coursework is tough but he is very accessible.

Work is a little hard just don't fall behind and watch live videos on Facebook and it'll help a lot. He's lenient and works with you to get a good grade.

Has unique teaching style but grades fair. He puts in a lot of effort to make sure You have plenty of learning methods. Lets you make up your work and submit quiz corrections

Professor Yuan by far has to be a professor that is extremely good. Honestly, have not came across a professor as him. Great feed back, gives really good help, broadcast that can be seen over again if needed. I would take any other course with him, just a class environment that just makes one feel comfortable and motivated to learn.

Carl Yuan made statistics very easy for me and allows you to work at your own pace which is great for people who have busy lives and/or work at a slower pace. He makes weekly videos to help lecture the material and on top of that is easy to contact with any questions regarding the curriculum.

Awesome instructor and is very helpful with being their for you even without it being in a actual classroom and does live videos to go over lectures and tests.

Professor Yuan was clear and organized throughout the course. Usually online courses feel like you have to teach yourself; but Professor Yuan provided us with podcasts, live sessions on Facebook, quiz rundowns, extra credit, and always responded promptly to messages and emails. But just like any class, you have to stay on track and earn your grade.

Was terrified to take Stats class online but Prof. Yuan is an exceptional teacher. He posts numerous announcements on different forums making sure you're on track with him. Gives plenty of extra credit and leniency to make sure you're able to complete all work with decent grades. 10/10 would recommend, helped me feel very confident in my work.

This teacher really cares about his students. You have to work for your grade. The subject is difficult but he makes it less painful to learn. Taking it online was scary for me yet I was grateful for his availability to answer any questions I had. He was quick to respond to questions on fb live and emails.

Professor Yuan is great at what he does, which is teaching mathematics. I took him over the summer online. Don't let the "online" part make you hesitant on taking math. It was my first time taking a math class online and it went smoothly. As long as you do all your work WEEKLY and give it your best, you'll do fine in this class.

The class is difficult for sure, the material is tough, but Professor Yuan really goes above and beyond to help you understand the material. Professor Yuan is very understanding and provides a lot of feedback within the course as well as outside of the course (live feeds, social media). Make sure to always read all of the announcements. With all the extra support the class became less stressful but keep up because the weeks go FAST.

It's worth it to take Math 055. Even though it was an online class, it felt like a community because of the Facebook group. Professor Yuan used podcasts and Facebook live sessions to help us solve hard problems and explained them in easy to understand ways. Thanks to him, I now have a new appreciation for math. Took Professor Yuan for Math 55. He was SO helpful with all the assignments/lectures & understood a students reasoning for taking an online class by making it easier on us. Just do the work, listen to his podcasts, read the announcements, & be involved in the discussion/posts. I passed with a B; which is the highest math grade Ive ever received.

Took him this fall for 9 weeks! Super caring and pushes for extra credit and reminds you to correct your discussions and quizzes for a passing grade. He has a pod cast about his work and how he operates the final term is 450 points and 900 points for have passing grade.

Loved professor Yuan's class. Took in Summer of 2019 and was terrified bc I am not good at math at all. He goes above & beyond for his students. The podcasts and FB lives help immensely and he is always there to answer a question. He is not looking for perfection but effort and proof that you put time in the assignments. In this class you have to put in the time but Professor Yuan is amazing and goes beyond to make sure his students understand. Doesn't give a lot of work. He is okay with late work as long as you're not behind by 2 weeks. For Discussion Boards, you have to choose a problem from your homework and provide step-by-step explanation of how to solve it. You also don't turn in your homework. He does have a lecture on facebook where you can ask questions (it is optional)x

Great professor. Gives lots of resources to help you understand the material. Late work is accepted but I would not get too far behind because the work takes effort and time to complete. There is a poster and video presentation for some assignments. Not something I was used to for math but it was a nice change. If you do the work you will do fine.

This isn't an easy class but as long as you're participating, putting in the work & making sure you're not falling behind or asking Q's you should pass! I am not good at math but Professor Yuan actually teaches & will give you feedback when you're wrong. I'd take him again if our paths cross in the future. I commend a teacher who actually teaches.
