I took her for lab and it was the best thing. She wasn't there to make us fail or give us anything more than she had to. We had one test which she allowed us to make corrections, three lab reports that only required like two paragraphs and tables, lab quizzes, a poster presentation instead of a final and lots of extra credit.
Dr. Andrews is a nice person, but she is not a good teacher. All she did in class was read directly off the powerpoints. There is no reason to go to class because she posts the powerpoints and doesn't elaborate, but you need to go to get participation points. All of the tests were very hard and the quizzes were even harder. I barely passed.
I have never met a teacher who cares less for their students or their subject. She was incredibly rude every day & made the labs way more complicated than needed. Three lab reports that she was never clear about what she wanted from them. I ended the class with an A, but I genuinely feel like I learned nothing. I dreaded class every week.
In class, she was somewhat laidback and easygoing, even allowing us to redo some of our test. I did feel she was rude at times and could never explain things clearly. When it came to lab reports however, shes a totally different person. INCREDIBLY harsh grader and very nitpicky. She would never explain exactly what was wrong. No final, only poster.
It's better if you chose a different teacher. Everything about her so far that was said is true. Extremely nit-picky and why do you have test in a lab class? Does not show her true colors till after add/drop period. She takes points off for silly thing and is a harsh grader. Her lab is extremely hard and little help was given because of her PHD.
Worst teacher Ive ever had in my entire college career. So far this semester at least 70% of the class has failed each test, in both bio lab and lecture. She doesnt care either. Doesnt specify the material and just reads off power points. Makes homework due before we even cover the chapter in class. Her teaching style is highly flawed.
Her posters are dumb and she's super super nitpicky. A test in lab?!? It had memorization style questions too (1M or 2M used in lab, wtf). I barely made an A, barely.
Very tough grader. Honestly do the best you can and be nice to her and she will probably give you a few more points. Shes a cool person but a very harsh grader. Her class was fun though and make sure you sit next to a good person in the beginning as that will be your lab partner.
Overall, Professor Andrews is not the worst. She is tough & will challenge your capacity to learn the material & not just recite it, but that can be beneficial, especially for science majors. She does still care & wants to improve her class, but she also isn't about to hand out easy A's. You will have to read & take notes outside of lecture to pass
Im not sure why students give Carla poor reviews. She is definitely clear about how projects will be graded and provides powerpoints of her mini lectures. She is even nice during lab when answering questions. i would absolutely take her again. She is a little hard on grading but absolutely gives feedback for revisions. there is not much homework
I thought I was gonna get a B but the professor is a very nice person, its the course that was pretty hard. You need to prepare for class before you come to the lecture. She really cares about her students, she would even give you all a take-home test IF yall are struggling in class. All I did was use the review guides and powerpoints to get an A.
Andrews is more like a teacher rather then professor. Honestly if you get someone that can sign you in then I wouldnt go, her lectures are terrible. She just reads off the slides and then posts them later plus she already had chapter notes and lecture notes. Just go for review and test days. Do the quizzes and mastering, and prepare to study!
Hardest professor I've had my college career. Doesn't offer much help and is quite rude if you ask for additional help and voice your concerns. She literally reads off of her powerpoint and doesn't teach, yet you are required to be in class to take the quiz. There are very few points that do not come from test format.
She wasn't a helpful professor at all. When I asked her for a deeper explanation on a topic she actually told me to Google it so you basically have to teach yourself the entire subject. The only good thing I can say about this professor is that she gave some extra credit.
She is one of the worst professors I have ever. I could see how she could teach a lower level class but definitely not suited for a senior level biology class. She reads straight from the ppt but her tests are from the book. Her vocab quizzes are almost impossible because she says she gets her definitions from the ppt but she does not.
Had to do entire lab from home due to COVID; not much interaction with her, but she was prompt to respond to emails, offered plenty of virtual office hours and very willing to help us the best she could. She graded fairly, but tough and with online lab, only had lab reports to rely on for grades.
Online due to COVID, but anything wrong with this course was the lab kits fault, not hers. The explanation in the pre-lab gives you all the answers to lab questions. Very quick grader and gave hints to be successful with some labs.
Took this lab online and it was very easy. Answers are all in the pre lab. Would take her again, shes not a tough grader.
All she does is read from pptx. Her quizzes are easy and from the pptx. But the tests were tough and from the book, most of the questions being application heavy. She expects her students to study 3 hours a day, which is exaggerated. way too hard for an intro class. Definitely wouldn't take again, she is more like a teacher rather than a professor.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS!!!!! Her exams are nearly impossible to pass even if you studied for 30+ hours. Her lectures dont help with the exams at all because the exams haveheavily concept based questions. Chapter quizzes are also very hard to pass as well. extremely hard for an intro class!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER IF THERE IS ANY OTHER TEACHER!!!!!
I never struggled in school until I took professor Andrews. She reads off a PowerPoint and will ignore student questions when being asked. She is an extremely tough grader as the majority of the class will fail the test, however, the grading system is a point-based system that allows leeway. If I were you, I would stay far away from this professor.
Attendance is mandatory, but she pretty much just reads off the slides. You can study all you want, the tests are way too hard and confusing. She gives study guides that don't help at all. You have homework due before every class. I'm a straight A student, and this was a pre-req "101" course, yet I got a C. Stay away if you care about your grades!
In the first few weeks of class she said that she has never taken this course nor has she ever taught it. Lectures are her reading from the textbook and her tests are very specific. She can't answer questions. BUT she gave out lots of extra credit and lets you take quizzes twice. Im on track for an A, but with lots of effort. TEXTBOOK is your guide
She provides feedback if you ask her to give it to you. The tests are not easy and she grades heavy. The class was a hybrid which was nice. The material is heavy for a lower class. Make sure you read the rubric and email her any questions for clarification or for help.
Let me just say that if you're thinking about taking Prof Andrews, you need to think again. She admitted that she had never taken the class! She cannot pronounce "phage". She didn't know what a synapomorphy was. Makes a tough science course impossible. Do not be like me, do not give this lady the benefit of the doubt. You will be sorry. Worst ever.
Worst professor I have ever had. Never seemed to be prepared. Her idea of lecturing was skim reading the book and repeating what she just skimmed, section by section. LOTS of awkward ums and long pauses. Painful to listen to. Should have been a self-taught online class instead of synchronous lecture. Class failed exams, but she would not curve.
She never taught us. She read the PowerPoint and textbook word for word and didn't actually teach. The tests were hard as well. Would not recommend this teacher.
Far from the worst professor I've had, but it's clear that she's here to do research and that her classes are secondary to her.
Maybe she is better in person but she is horrible online. She seriously reads from the book. She has a Ph.D. in micro and cannot pronounce basic words, which is bad. How she landed this job, who knows. It would be lovely for her to actually teach or maybe just a study guide for the test so I'm not trying to memorize the entire book.
Her tests were very hard, but I also barely studied. I failed every single one of her tests (I'm talking 50% being my highest grade and 32% being my lowest). She does give hw, quizzes (easy), project (easy 100), and extra credit which helped my grade alot. Not bad of a class because I did pass with a B even though I failed all of the tests
I knew this class wasn't going to be easy, but I actually felt like I was being trolled. She reads the book to you and barely bothers to engage with students. The 3 exams are laughably hard. Oh, and her advice? "Just study everything." I got a B, but you better believe I did every extra credit and got 100's on homework to help out that grade.
Only four grades, 3 tests and then HW section. Powerpoints are straight off pearson. She reads right off of it word for word so the lecture is really boring. She mispronounces A LOT too. You will probably end up teaching yourself. But she does give extra credit assignments and hw on mastering so make sure to do them. Wouldnt recommend taking her.
Bonus points - 49 pts 29 for hw+20 for 20 questions on the final exam. Tips: Study Quizlet or easy notecard website. The professor just copies the problems from the easy notecard website or Quizlet and pastes them on the exam. That is all. If you want to survive, just study through an online source. Good luck.
Terrible. 5 exams and a final, course/study information is irrelevant to her exams, reads straight from powerpoints, content is copied word for word online, including exam questions, content is considered graduate-level material, by my personal tutor, doesn't hand back exams, but requires you to make an appointment, and doesn't remember anything.
She doesnt help you if youre on the border of making an A. Her point system makes no sense. Participation is weighted so heavily that you can make an A in everything else and not get an A in the class. How do I have a high B in the class and possibly making an A on the last unit test and final exam wont get me an A?
Carla is by far the worst teacher I had this semester. She is a sweet lady, but should consider another profession. Her lectures were based completely off of her reading word for word off of powerpoints. Her tests were almost impossible to pass because of the way she would word the material. If you have to the her, ace all of your quizzes and hw.
Dr. Andrews isn't the worst professor, but I definitely wouldn't call her the best. The lectures, which are every class besides maybe day for review before a test, are her just reading off the Powerpoint. However, if you just do the review she provides and study the PowerPoints, you should do fine. Also, she gives a ton of participation points.
She does tend to grade tests harshly but if she is extremely generous with extra credit at the end of the semester I promise.
Her grading system is based out off adding points which helped me pass her class. However, I did not learn anything in her class, she is a nice lady but she does not teach well.
Her pre lab quizzes suck, you read a 22 page lab handout to take a lockdown webcam quiz that is m/c and free response. It is highly specific so if you don't take detailed notes or read the handout several times over several days you will likely fail or do poorly. Look for better professors. She has never taught the class before
THROW AWAY THE STUDY GUIDE SHE GIVES YOU- IT IS NOTHING LIKE THE TEST. She even stated that herself. I literally spent 3 nights a week staying up all night (I work on top of being a full-time student), studying the study guide, even had my bf quiz me with it. Studied for 2 weeks, got a 32% on the exam. So yeah. Study the powerpoints and do the hw.
DO NOT TAKE HER! i have learned nothing from going to her class. the study guide literally is nothing on the test. Half of her "group work" doesnt make sense and when ive asked questions she doesnt know how to explain it. if you want to actually learn bio take a different teacher
DO NOT TAKE!!! No amount of study guides or PowerPoints will help you on the exams. Her exam questions are wordy and confusing, like she's trying to trick you. All she does throughout class is read off of the PowerPoint. The only thing that helped me pass the class was her homework and participation points, which are just graded for completion.
This is absolutely the worst professor Ive had in a while. The exams were absolutely insane to the point where everyone failed almost all of them even with intense hours of studying. But Because this class is based off of points it allowed room for error, you also usually have more points than you think.
She's not a bad lab teacher, but her pre-lab quizzes were awful. They are lockdown webcam where you have to thoroughly understand and remember the lab and take the quiz before class. The worksheets were kinda long, but they weren't too bad. Just make sure you know what you're doing. She was lenient for some grades and helped a bit with content
Graded on attendance, a very difficult final, and a couple posters. Generally unremarkable, just make sure to show up to class and spend lots of time on the posters because the grading is very critical.
I wish I could go back in time and tell my counselor I'd rather wait for another lecture to open than take her class. She's awful. Not helpful at all. Always told us to go to student instructor lessons, SI couldn't answer us and say ask the professor. Constant cycle of "ask the other". You won't learn anything from her.
Do not take her, she has boring lectures where she reads off the PowerPoint. Homework is due before we cover it in class. Weekly quizzes, lots of textbook reading. Everyone failed the tests, but even then its possible to get a high grade in the class. If you want to actually learn bio, don't take her. She's a nice lady just not a helpful teacher.
This has to be the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. It amazes me how poor her grasp of English is. What I mean by this is that with her tests you have little to no idea what you were asked after reading a question. She grades on a point system that makes no sense whatsoever and I can promise you will learn next to nothing in this course.
I have never hated a teacher this much.
terrible
Worst bio teacher I've ever had. Student instructors praised someone for proving that a 90 on a test was possible in the class (most of the class averages for the tests were
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER! Teacher has 1-2 hours of homework and two quizzes each week. Homework made from a PPT and has to be done before the lecture where she just reads the same ppt and then gives you a participation assignment. She makes tests that are primarily application-type questions with horrendous wording. Class avg for tests
pt 2 most of the test averages were less than 40 percent. She had very unclear and bland powerpoints that she read for her lectures. S.I.s were the only help outside of class and most of there sessions were stuff you could figure out on your own time. Overall, just an awful experience.
I'm surprised to see bad reviews, I loved her. She was extremely helpful during all of the labs and they were fairly easy, I was always the first to leave. Not too hard of a grader and is clear on what she expects. Pretty relaxed prof and I had a fantastic experience with her. Not sure about her lectures but for lab I would recommend her to anyone.
She is not a great professor at all. I haven't gotten my final grade in the class yet, but based off of how im doing my current average is a C+. She doesn't ever know the answer to questions you ask, she gives you 70 question study guides when the test barely has 20. She doesn't even know what is on the test either. Would NOT recommend her AT ALL.
Worst teacher I have ever taken in my life. I already took this course in highschool and understood the material already and I still don't know if I will be able to get an A. It is impossible to understand the test questions and she will never answer your questions or help you in any way.
I would def steer clear of her class. She makes everything harder than it actually is. She is very boring in lectures because she reads off the PowerPoint and has a monotone voice. and does not make room for questions. She is nice person though not a good teacher. She is also a tough grader.
Is a very nice professor who is open to student feedback. She really wants her students to learn and succeed, but she tends to overestimate how much student abilities to learn and connect information. So, the tests end up being ridiculously hard, but even if you don't do well on them, as long as you do the homework and class work, you'll do fine.
I'm sure prof Andrews is a great person outside of her classroom but she made an intro level bio course way harder than it needed to be. If you're worried about the content being difficult you'll be fine. The lectures are lengthy. She's open to feedback and after many student complaints she put more emphasis on application questions for the exams.
Not terrible for a bio class but I struggled learning the material. Most of the grade is based on homework, participation, and extra credit so I did manage to get an A even with a 65% test average. Keep in mind tests are extremely hard to prepare for and you likely will be teaching yourself most of the material. An A is possible but tough
I want to emphasize that in my experience with Ms. Andrews, anytime I've spoken to her (in person, video chat, and by email), she has been kind and respectful. Her lectures are fast-paced, she assigns activities for each class, and homework. She does offer extra credit. Some people may not like her teaching style, but that's no excuse to be rude.
Took her for Lab and Lecture of the summer for microbio. Lab was amazing would 1000% take again with her. Lecture was test heavy and averages were in the 40s. But she curves the test to a B average and gave a lot of extra credit to make up for the low grades. Would take again for lecture if I had to but she was worth the risk.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She makes you play Kahoot as a form of review for the tests, but they DID NOT HELP AT ALL. Practice tests did not mirror tests at all and were way easier than the actual thing. The class averages for the tests were mainly 60s. However, your grade is point based so getting an A or B is manageable but you won't learn much.
Do not take her for BIO! Her lectures are nothing like her exams. She tricks you by making quizzes easy and completely open note, and then exams are either lockdown browser with webcam or in person on paper. Horrible wording on her exams!
Avoid her if you can. If you can't just know you're in for a ride. It is attendance mandatory and you have a group activity at the end of every lecture so make good friends!. Homework can be a lot and quizzes while they are not long they can be worded very odd. Exams are very difficult and they require the lockdown browser. There is extra credit.
PLS avoid this professor at all costs! I honestly have no idea how I passed with an A....I feel like I didn't learn one thing! Lectures are nothing like exams, and she words exam ?s terribly! I truly believed I only passed from extra credit, HW, & participation pts. Almost on all her exams no matter how much I studied in advance were D or F.
Not a good professor. Didn't learn much. You can fail almost every test and still pass with a b because of point grading system but have to do all homework and assignments given plus participation.
For me, my experience was bad. She teaches pointless lectures, that has nothing to do with the exams. The study guides and powerpoint are pointless. However, you can still pass the class with participation and homework.
The lectures are not very helpful. The exams were very hard and my test average was 56%. The only thing that saved me was everything else. Do the homework on time, get good grades on the quizzes, do the extra credit video assignments, and most importantly show up to every single lecture for participation points. The grading system is the only pro.
The exams and lectures were the worst part of the class. Lectures are boring and do not correlate with the exams. There is a lot of extra textbook reading to do to succeed in the class. I failed 3/6 exams and still got an A in the class because participation points and homework are a major part of the class.
I made a good grade in this class but that was because I worked ridiculously hard. The lectures are a lot and often don't cover all of the material you will be tested on. If you take this class you NEED to have good study skills and willingness to reach out to the professor for clarifications. She grades fairly, responds quickly, and is sweet.
Very difficult class not because of the content but by the class nature. I had her for online so I just take notes from online lecture and online textbook. A quiz every week and a test every 4-5 week. Discussion post were very easy tho, just participate and she drops lowest two quiz. Good thing she give plenty of extra credit.
Not the best professor in my opinion. All she does is read off of PowerPoints and expect you to know the material by the end of class; attendance isn't mandatory, there is an activity at the end of the session for participation point which affects grade. DO NOT take her if you are an in-class learner b/c she doesn't use the best teaching methods.
The lecture goes fast and explains it very complicated.
Professor Andrews is not great when it comes to giving lectures. Most of the classes would just be her reading off of some powerpoint slides really quickly and then giving us some groupwork. Homework isnt too hard but there is a lot of it. Tests were very confusing, even if you read the book and most people would end up scoring really low.
She is a nice professor. Class is graded by points, rather than percentage which is great. Tests are worded weird, but there is room to make up points with assignments, quizzes, and attendance. There is a lot of homework, it takes a while. I didn't do well on most tests but did most of my hw/extra credit, only missed one class, and ended with a B.
Exams are rough, lectures contain a lot of PowerPoints that are hard to keep up, a lot of material is learned kind of at the same time, and the is a lot of homework.
She literally just blasts through PowerPoints and doesn't actually explain anything in detail, also tests are very difficult
she is very nice but her lectures consist of her reading off powerpoints that we are already given access too prior to the unit. she provides practice test but they do not help with the test at all. there is tons of HW and a group assignment at the end of each class to count for participation points.
Absolutely horrible teacher!! she talks for 5 minutes then gives us a sheet of paper. tests are nothing like the lectures. I gave up going to class and just learned the material myself and got a better grade on tests. only surviving with participation points so do homework!!!!
Terrible teacher for an introductory biology class. She just reads the slides and ends class in 7-20 minutes. Exams are lockdown + webcam and her study guides NOR lecture PowerPoints are detailed enough/correlate with her exams. It is extremely difficult to pass. You will not learn a thing in there.
Genuinely the worst professor. Bad option for intro to bio. Spends short time reading off un-detailed powerpoints, doesn't explain anything, then gives a worksheet. The quizzes and tests don't correlate at all, no matter how much you study or tutor you won't succeed on tests. Pray hw (theres a LOT), participation + assignments make up for ya grade.
Just do your self a service and don't take her.
There isn't a big enough character limit in this review to explain to you JUST HOW BAD SHE IS. Trust me please and save yourself from this teacher and don't take her. And if you take her, I'll pray for you.
She's not a very great prof. She teaches from powerpoints like most profs do but I genuinely don't understand anything she talks about during lecture. However, I do like her grading system and I passed the class with an A only because I had to teach myself everything every single unit. DO THE PEARSON HW!! But besides that I wouldn't take her again
She's okay for lab for guess.... I never personally had a problem with her, she's a really kind person. Pre-test and Post-tests are both for a grade, so you would need to review the lab worksheets before you take the pre-test.
I took her class for Biology 1107 Lab. Her class isn't very difficult, but you have to at least look over the lab worksheets before going in to the lab. The pre and post test are easy grades if you pay attention and read the lab worksheet.
Very confusing because she just reads a powerpoint every class lecture and is not very engaging. Attendance is based on groups so as long as one group member writes your name down on the sheet she gives out each class you'll be fine. A decent amount of extra credit I failed a majority of tests and still got an A for extra credit. Tests are AWFUL
Her lectures are useless. None of the material helped on her tests. Nothing you learned is used on the test. I failed ALL tests and yet made an A so it's doable. She gives a ton of extra credit enough to make you pass. But still awful. I did not learn a thing. And this is coming from someone who studied microbiology. I would avoid it.
Helpful lectures if you actually pay attention. Do the guided notes, watch the textbook's videos and khan academy. I wish I would have recorded her lectures bc she says important stuff. Prof. is willing to help. Tests aren't bad until about midway through the class. Don't even get me started on the useless project checks and final project.
Professor Andrews is great! She knows what she doing and this class made me understand and like bio. Tough grader but she sets expectations and standards. Personally one of my fav classes and my easiest.
She doesn't know what she's doing but getting an A is easy. All of her work is pretty easy, but you will need to find a good group that does work with you as most of her in-class work is in the group. That same group will be used for your final project. Most of your points will come from the project work and homework. Tests are impossible.
Expect ridiculously long homework assignments, one assignment can have 120-140 questions with multiple side tasks. She reads off PowerPoints for 20 minutes and then hands out a worksheet for the rest of the class. If you have her for an 8 AM class, you'll regret it. She can be snarky and unhelpful, asking questions feels like a waste of time.
We learned nothing during lecture and would be completely surprised when taking exams Regurgitated PowerPoints
Kind person but not a very good teacher. If you major in bio, chem or any other science related major, it'll be an easy A, but if you actually want to learn it'll be a challenge as her lectures that range wildly in length as well as too much group work. The worst thing is the absurd length of her homework as most range from 100-200 total questions.
If you like gambling your tuition she's 10/10. If you have questions she will repeat what's on the slides until you walk away. She put me in groups in the beginning of classes and one person of my group took my name off the last assignments w/o the others knowing and it took most of a letter off of my grade because I didn't please all of them, GL!
She made us get into groups, so make sure you choose your group with people who look like they would actually do the work. I don't this that Professor Andrews is rude or mean, however, there was ALOT of homework assignments which is in the online textbook. The exams were online, but they were somewhat difficult.
WAY TO MUCH HOMEWORK AND ASSIGMENTS, FOR THE LITTLE AMOUNT OF THINGS SHE ACTUALLY TEACHES US. if you can take another professor, PLEASE DO IT
Professor Andrews' labs were great. We never took the whole lab time (only like an hour and a half max) and the labs were well-explained and fun. She was good at explaining directions and giving help. You have pre & post quizzes per each lab, but they don't have lockdown browser, so super easy. Only one actual exam, the final.
She reads off of powerpoints then expects you to know everything. It's easy to get a goof grade but she clearly doesn't care and has her LAs grade everything for her. Do not recommend.
Easy A but she doesn't actually teach you anything just reads off slides. If you want to actually learn the material take another professor. Also WAY too much homework. Had multiple 50+ question homeworks.
