very difficult and hardcore feminist
A lot of reading, fairly easy in class, you can zone out.
HORRIBLE STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE!
women's studies could be more interesting, but she goes off on tangents. AVOID
Horrible teacher, HATES guys
wonderful teacher always helpful and kind
dudes, avoid her! ladies, i recommend much the same
Worst Prof. Ever. Guys and Girls should not take her.
Very hard and uninteresting... do not take her!
very hard!! but she is helpful and nice! you will need a tutor to pass!

Very Unhelpful, Doesn't explain projects, Talks too much, Pays very little attention to any Male members of her class.
i loved her, only wants the best for her students
She is a tough grader. Raging feminist. If you don't mind a B~ you will be okay.

If you want a challenging class, this is definitely one to take worth your college tuition. Rineer pushes you to be a better writer. I really enjoy the assignments, but I don't feel like I've taken too much from the actual class. Not an easy grader.
Feminazi!!!!!!!!!!!
WHOA!!! watch out kids... she teaches this class like its honors advanced writing. first paper-- worked my butt off and got an 83% (was really bummed) but found out it was the highest grade in the class........
Tough teacher, helpful and fun. Participate in class and don't hesitate to get help. Talks a lot about Feminism and is openly liberal. Don't be disappointed to get a B on a great paper. I would gladly take her again.
She is a hardcore feminist so you'll be hearing about alot about female oppression and that crap. I'm a male student though and she has always been the nicest person to me so just because she's a crazy feminist doesn't mean she hates men.
Feminist, will shoot down all republicans, christians, or non-feminists. incorporates feminism into writing... i thought she was rather easy. just take her suggestions.
Easy grader. She is really focused on women-related issues, but who can blame her? She really helped me with my writing, and getting an A was not so hard.
She's so nice. I wasn't into it at the beginning, but as we got into current events, it became one of my most fun classes.
femi-nazi!
Dr. Rineer is a very energetic professor and she has a great sense of humor. Our class was fun because she has so much personality. She is genuinly interested in her students.
What can i say about dr. rineer? i love her! she's amazing and this class saved my life.
Very easy, my papers were all self indulgent intellectual wankery, but she loves that stuff, so I got all A's. A very nice lady, but boring and sometimes struck me as a little fake.
very difficult teacher needs to give clear instructions. believes everyone should be writing masterpieces. Grading is out of whack.
Do Not Take Rineer!!! Lots of work, Unreasonable grader, Lowers grade for being two minutes late to class.
Very nice lady with a concern for each of her students. She does focus on women's issues and is biased; however, it is not hard to get a good grade in her class.
The best teacher I have this semester. Shes very compassionate and cares about her students. She will go out of her way to help you out. The class is very informal and is filled with mostly open discussions. Definately take her.
blahh cool stuff papers are a joke, class is unbareable at 8 am on tues thursday project unness. and should be a writing course cause all the tests are take home.
Rineer is great. She is always willing to assist you and gives your grade based on effort. Her classes are great to go to because it is really informal and you don't have to take notes. As long as you show some comprehension of the readings you will get an A. Take her!!!!
Reads way too much into a lot of things being against women. Hoped we learn more historical things about women then just "inequality". I don't feel opressed. Learned to say/write what she wanted to hear/see, and then I did really well!
Take someone else if you're a guy. She is clearly a feminist and puts males at a disadvantage. You had to suck up to her and pick topics that would interest her for a good grade. The class did require little work and she was very passionate about lit. and writing but I still don't recommend.
I took her for 2 classes and loved her. She is an easy grader. All you have to do is put some effort and thought into your writings and you'll do fine. She loves conversation, so if u comment on the readings you are sure to get an A. Defintely take her.

very helpful and very biased. too feminist for me.
I love this teacher. She is such a sweetheart and she's adorable! The way she talks draws you in and makes you want to pay attention. She has a sort of elementary school teacher way of talking. She gives a lot of reading but its all stories that aren't that bad to read. This class isn't bad at all.

Very excited all of the time....But she grdes horriblly!!!!!!!!!!!LOL
Worst teacher ever. Crazy feminist.suck up if you want a good grade, otherwise you're SOL.
She is a crazy feminist, she gets pissed off about the stupidest stuff and she grades really hard. not a bad class
Wonderful and friendly prof. If you're a good writer, the papers will be easy A's. Tells you exactly what she wants in a paper and is willing to help you if you need it. Definitely would recommend her. Is a feminist, but is reasonable and fair.

She is very nice but she is a little crazy. you have to "figure" he out. the more she gets to know you the better you will do in the class and you will get more out of her help. keep an opened mind about her. she only assigns three papers that have to be 3-5 pages. easy comp. class!
Not very helpful or clear about what she wants done in English 110.
Assignments are unclear.. and she freaks out and tells you to "calm down!" if you ask why something doesn't have a due date. Every single reading discussion begins with "In those days, women..." blah blah blah It's a relief on the days when people are giving presentations because you don't have to listen to her as much.
She's an interesting person. She seems to have mood swings but she's usually nice. She has days where she comes in and is extremely happy and those are good days. Overall, good prof. not great. Will be cool about lateness if you have a reasonable excuse.
Required to attend classes. Don't expect papers back in a reasonable amount of time. Say's she's understanding, however not so much. Notices things you don't think she would. Required to bring book to class. Not test's or quizes that are graded. Take papers to Writing Center to get best grade.
Good luck trying to figure out what she wants because she won't tell you. Grades hard but won't help you to correct problem areas. Extremely moody.
she talks in circles and wastes time
Dr. Rineer is a very nice professor, but her lectures can often be scattered. Not much graded material, just a mid-term, final, presentation, and a paper. Fairly simply and easy class, just make sure you do the readings and participate in class.
I really loved her and thought she was an amazing teacher until she said Professors can not be friends with a student.. I like a teacher you can talk to.
I LOVE THIS CLASS! It is so easy. Each week, we read a novel and have a panel discussion about it. It can be fun if the class participates. She is always funny and tries to be upbeat even though she is extremely busy. She has helped me with getting me information outside of this class. Love her!
This was such an easy class! You only need to keep up with the reading to be able to participate, which is a large chunk of your grade. She is more than willing to help and is always excited! Definitely take her for Early American if you can.
Dr. Rineer's lectures are dull and scattered. She treats the class like a book discussion, and you never know what you are supposed to know for the test. Don't even bother taking notes in the class because the tests are on nothing you learned about in class. She takes forever to grade work, and does not hand back papers or test.
Professor Rineer is simply amazing! She does exactly what professors SHOULD do --instead of "teaching" the material, she facilitates learning by basically allowing her students to direct the class with their questions/curiosities; she never spoon-feeds you her ideas on a subject, but gives you leeway to voice your understanding of the material.
DO NOT TAKE HER AS AN ONLINE TEACHER. She never emailed you back with answers, she was incredibly rude when she did email you back, she never helped, she acted in a way as if she did not care one bit about you as a student or your learning in her online class. By far the worst teacher I have had at Millersville
Take this prof! The grade is two tests, a presentation, and participation. If you read for every class and talk about the material, you will do very well. There's no surprises on the tests. She's a fair prof and I recommend taking her.
Dr. Rineer is an amazing woman. She is a great professor that shows great passion in teaching. She really cares about the subject and even more about the students. Class participation is a big part of the grade, but it's low-key and enjoyable. Highly recommend her!
This professor is one of the worst. She gives no guidelines and it takes awhile to hear back from her. Class is boring and dominated by talkative students and class part. is a big part of the grade. I think she grades poorly and is just not clear most of the time. Avoid if possible
Dr. Rineer seems like a very nice person, and from the reviews on here it seems as though she is a good in-class professor. But DO NOT TAKE FOR ONLINE CLASSES!!! She does not understand how to use D2L and does not provide feedback for essays in time, so that you can improve later essays based on her review. AVOID ONLINE CLASS!!
Very unimpressive. She grades relatively tough and her comments on papers are unintelligible/useless. When I contacted her for help or clarification, she was hostile and unhelpful. I would not recommend her. There are better choices out there.
I hated American Lit going into this course but Dr. Rineer really opened my eyes to American Lit and how it applies to now. If you are looking for a class to do nothing in this is not the class. There are 2 grades final and midterm. If you do the readings and participate you will do fine but if you don't plan to read don't bother to take the class!
Class is discussion-based and partic./attendance is a big part of grade. Not always easy to understand, but she is helpful at office hours. Only problem is that she doesn't give timely feedback on essays and her guidelines for projects are vague. She's about average. Some MU English professors are definitely better, but a lot are definitely worse.
Kind but vague with instructions. Class relies on participation. Mandatory attendance. Books are required. In the 6-9 class, she collects a weekly paper consisting of your response to the reading. Does not update grades, ever. One large research paper, presentation of paper, and group project.
A LOT of reading - some weeks were better than others, but understand that this is a LIT class. You must do the readings. Weekly/daily quizzes that are simple if you read. You also do a presentation - that and quizzes = 50% of the grade, plus two tests. Open book test required a lot of writing. Final was a group project - unclear req. Start early
Not an easy course but Dr.Rineer was a very helpful and caring teaching. Class is largely discussion based and you must do the readings in order to succeed. If you do the readings and take good notes in class it should be a breeze.
Terrible. Gives vague instructions but is very specific and picky when grading. Doesn't return papers or give feedback, so your grade is a complete mystery until it's posted at the end of the semester. Class is solely discussion and dominated by the same few students every time. No actual teaching is done, so I learned nothing. Waste of time!
See below for accurate comment.
Not easy.
Not helpful at all. Calimed to be a history buff and then talked about how Voltaire's Candide relates to the Seven Years War, and read the Seven Years' War Wikipedia page to the class. Unprepared for class, does not care what the students say. Not fit to teach an Honors course.
Rineer is a kind woman, but not a very good professor. She does not teach much, as our entire class was presentation based. Our class "discussions" involved posing questions at her and the GA (who was definitely high all the time) and not getting a definitive answer. Be sure to do all class work on time as she does not generally accept late work.
After taking 237 with Dr. Rineer this semester and a class with her the previous semester, she refused to work with my schedule, accused me of plagiarizing my paper when it clearly was my own work, was absent at office hours, and tanked my grade even after the department head told her she did not see plagiarism. Do not take this bitter woman.
Rineer regularly reads off of Wikipedia for her lectures, which is SO insulting. Only permits discussion as SHE sees fit - does not like actual student-guided discussions. Her final's a group project that she must grade by throwing darts at a board w grades on it - we got an A but, honestly, deserved less. Other groups scored Ds and deserved Bs.
Extremely tough greater. Gives no instruction or clarity but grades extremely hard. Demands attendance for students, but misses classes all the time. Has Grad students do grading for her.
Reads off wikipedia for her lectures, which are pretty boring in and of themselves. Tough grader and picks favorites. Take it with Ording instead.
She is unclear & doesn't give back grades. It is 11/24, I gave my presentation on 11/3 & still haven't got a grade back. My friend gave hers on 10/13 & no grade too. Does not give specific instructions, will go back & forth on what she wants for projects & despite having 3 grades for the class, I still don't have 1 when the semester ends in 2 weeks
Very poor with giving back grades and expects you to fully understand difficult readings by yourself. However, she is a nice lady and if you attend her class and participate you'll do much better in the class as she takes that into serious consideration for her final grade.
Rineer is avery interested professor. Even though she is a tough grader and doesn't help you out too much, she is very knowledgable and cares about what she is teaching. Make sure you READ and do well on exams. Those exams are your ONLY GRADES, besides the final project and participation (attendance).
Dr. Rineer is one of the best professors at Millersville. Though her grading is tough, you will gain a lot of knowledge from this class if you put the effort in. Go to every single class, she takes it into consideration for your final grade. She is extremely helpful if you need to go to her with questions. Expect group projects to be tough though.
Rineer is literally one of my favorite professors. Sometimes her assignments are a little confusing because she likes to give you a lot of space for creativity for essays but if you need more help she's really amazing in one-on-one help and giving you hints and tips. She loves group projects and they are usually video projects. Again, amazing!
She's honestly great and kinda funny sometimes too. Easy going, easy to get along with and very helpful when you ask. I wish I could take her for EVERY English class at MU!!
Get on her good side if you can. She values and appreciates student opinions on readings and encourages participation. The assignments aren't exceedingly difficult, as they're primarily opinion based. She's a cool person and runs a casual classroom environment. She does prefer visual group projects. Be prepared to make some sort of video
Its a 400 level class, so the hardcore midterm is expected, as well as the readings required. She is extremely caring and laidback. She is easily one of my top professors. She wants her students to do well, not just memorize.
Her class is the worst English class I have taken yet. She lectures the whole class about stupid things. She gives you a paper then literally reads the ENTIRE thing to you. She is a slow grader and never explains what she wants in order to get good grade. Don't take her
You only have 3 assignments the whole year, 2 years and a documentary. Apparently we don't have a final but you still have to show up for the 2 hour test period. If you have her drop the class immediately!
If you have her and you can drop the class do it. Her papers made absolutely no sense and her grading was awful. 95% of the class time she spends talking about random irrelevant information that has nothing to do with our papers. She required us to work on the same information all semester for three different papers and did not help when asked.
Terrible professor, she takes forever to grade papers. All she did was talk about herself and never taught the class. Very tough grader, not specific on what she asks for on the papers. Im usually a A student in English Class but this professor is terrible when it comes to teaching and explaining. Avoid taking her at all cost!!!
Dont take her if you dont have to. Spends majority of class time talking about useless information, and then doesnt give you clear answers when you ask about stuff that actually matters. Takes forever to grade, and her grading is inconsistent and doesnt make much sense. Makes you buy an $100 textbook and then only uses it twice.
I've taken a couple classes with Dr. Rineer and she is easily one of my favorite professors. The most she usually asks for is that you read and be able to discuss the reading in class. She very much teaches through discussion. Take her and get ready to read, write, and speak up in class! Can't recommend her enough.
She's my least favorite professor ever. If you have the option to not take a class with her, DO IT! RUN FROM HER! She has no guidelines, is very unclear with everything, and gives no feedback. She's impossible to get ahold of. If you email her, don't expect a response back. She's the worst with technology, so online teaching with her is a fail.
Dont do it. My class meets Tues/Thurs. Without any warning, she sent an email out on Friday at 9:45am that there was an assignment posted online. I went and checkedthe assignment was due at 11:59pm that day. Not the first time shes done that. She came in sick during the pandemic without getting tested. Acts like teaching is an inconvenience.
Dr. Rineer is a very nice person, but I took Advanced Composition with her and I feel that I did not learn anything. We wrote 3 papers and made 1 documentary. She treated the class like a history class instead of a writing class. Her lectures in class were sometimes pointless. Besides the papers, no homework and no exams so pretty easy grade.
The hilarious button is up there for a reason and should be "ridiculous". She is just reading like in a lecture, grades the whole class in 4 papers. It was not clear what she wants in those papers, that's why I have like a full email storage full of emails with other students talking about this issue. We even had to go to the dean because of that
