EAAAASSSSSSSYYYYYYYYY
Funny, he'll tell you stories related to the material he's going over. (Ex: Back then, we used to......) haha. Sometimes digress. He showed us some experiments in class. really fun. won't fall asleep. and lectures not= only book.
His lectures are surprisingly NOT BORING at all, he explains everything extremely well, and he's pretty funny. PLUS, his first midterm was really straightforward and not that difficult. Go to lectures! He's A LOT better than the book.
lectures are straight forward, easy understand.good prof
Funny guy, keeps lectures interesting and going. Tests are straighforward and easy of you attend lecture and read the text, however, his practice midterms tend to be a little misleading, so study all topics not just what's on the practice midterm.
Although he is a nice guy, the class is really hard nonetheless. His midterms are very different than the practice ones he gives out, and sometimes he goes too fast in lecture. Overall, he tries his best to make sure the subject is as clear as possible.
Good prof. clear in lectures. but midterms are avg. kind of difficult. one or two question will be random ones just to see if u read the text. but overall a great professor.
Best professor I've had so far. He reignited my interest in science. His lectures are very helpful and the tests are manageable if you do the homework consistently. Also, he tells funny stories (even if they're not related to chemistry).
Great guy, Lectures are Powerpoint based, with animations... so easy to follow, he clarifies with problems and applications on the board. Do the homework, and you'll be set for a good grade.
Lectures are pointless, read the book. First two midterms are fairly easy compared to others but the Final was RIDICULOUS! Our class average was 50% on it. His curve sucks and doesnt give + or -...so I earned a C+ and got a C....as did 85% of class.
Lectures were pointless and test questions left much to the imagination... Killer final. Get ready to learn from the book.
Great professor as far as Chem teachers go. Very easy to understand. Final was incredibly difficult. I had a strong A going in and dropped to a Low B! The test was co-written by the chem teachers and Lebrilla did not prepare us for it..
This guy is hilarious in a dorky way at lectures. I thought 2b was gonna be extremely difficult but Lebrilla made it interesting and less serious. If you go to lectures and do the reading, you'll be in good shape. I got an A, so will you.
Very easy teacher. His lectures were interesting enough, but he moved so slowly I ended up reading the paper most classes. I don't know what all these people are talking about when they say his tests are hard, I aced most of them. The class average was 20-30% higher than with other teachers.
Great teacher. Actually explains the concepts and makes it very clear and understandable. Fair tests but of course you need to study for them. Lots of experiments in class.
lectures are good. Tests are fair.
Tough class, It's chem. He explains things well and reiterates a lot. Tests are similar to practice. No hw is due, he gives suggested problems. Chem 2B will be a hard class with anyone, but if you work hard, its not too bad. Gotta work the curve.
Funny, interesting. Only chemistry teacher I don't sleep through. He ties everything together with real life applications.
I really hate the fact that he has a huge amount of mistakes in his slides. His tangents about random crap are nice because they take you away from having to sit through a lecture about a boring topic. His tests are confusing and I find them difficult even when I think I know the materal well enough to get a decent grade.

gives good notes but tests are crazy! no partial credit, and sometimes there are some things in the multiple choice to deliberately trick you. and he doesn't like curves
He left us during finals week without a review or a practice final. WAT a ....beep...
His lectures are great- he explains things pretty well, but his tests are crazy. He doesn't tell you the curve until the end, too, so we all think we're failing so far. How exciting. Beware of the final...it's just ridiculous.
he has clear and organized notes, but he did not give us any practice final. we had no clue what was going to be on the final...so it was pretty hard! We also have no clue about the curve in his class... hopefully its enough to get a damn C in his class!!!!
He left us the last week of finals and didn't even post a practice final! His random stories are nice but I still fell asleep a lot though. Screw partial credit on long answer tests, it's just bull crap. His slides has errors galore but I guess he isn't all so bad. Whatever, I'm going to have to repeat so ya know ... f*** it.
He is an EXCELLENT teacher! he's very clear and a great lecturer. He only errors on his slide the last week and thats cuz he wasn't here. His notes are so GOOD! just study off them and ull get a good grade on the test! he did leave us for finals and didnt give us a practice, if u studied his notes u would do fine! Highly recommend!
Lots of repetition and tangent stories, but that is good cuz you'd fall asleep in class otherwise. The lecture notes are clear, study alot and you should be OK.
This guys lives for chemistry. Go to lecture, get a good TA, and you're good to go. This guy knows his stuff and notes are great. Funny prof too, you will learn he travels a lot.

Very organized PowerPoint lectures. Helpful, DEFINITELY knows his chemistry!! Can answer almost any question regarding Mass Spec or instrumenetal analysis! Arrogant , but overall very good.
Avoiding taking him if you can. He's test are horrible. And his lectures are even worse. His lectures are almost pointless because all he does is talk about his life. Also, he's tests are 70% multiple choice which means there is hardly any chance to get partial credit.
Goes on random tangents a lot, likes to repeat things for no apparent reason, and overuses his green laser pointer, which is painful to look at. What he says in class has little to no relevance to exams, midterm reviews are only vaguely helpful, and he doesn't provide a review for the final.
Prof Lebrilla is a smart guy im sure, but he's just not a great teacher. Lecture is all over the place with no real structure, and he just reads off the powerpoint with no coherent explanations. Doesn't provide any practice final, and the practice midterms are completely different than his real tests.
Alot better than my last professor but maybe a bit lazy cause he did not have a final practice exam.
lebrilla seems to be a good teacher but his slides are MUCH too long to get all down on paper, so try to stay ahead of the class and read before u get to class.. he often goes off on tangents and when he starts to run out of time near the end of the class he rushes through important information which makes it hard to attain all of his information.
Seems like a nice guy and makes himself available during office hours (I never went...they were scheduled during my lab) Need to study on your own for his class (lectures not helpful) and I highly recommend going to the LSC workshop if you end up with Lebrilla.
Tests are based on lec notes and HW questions. He does not provide slides online, so better go to the class. Tests are fair.
Lebrilla was an average to below average prof. He doesn't post slides online and they are very hard to copy in class. decent in explaining the material. Would not recommend.
Lebrilla is a very good lecturer and always makes sure to explain concepts clearly through his slides which aren't posted online as an incentive to come to class and I respect that. He makes class exciting for some reason. Concepts on multiple choice parts are worth a lot. However, he does not post a practice Final exam so study study study!
Lebrilla was one of the worst professors I have ever had. Exams are based off of... well, the book. His lectures are USELESS! He often doesn't even cover a topic but he tests on it. The long answer questions on exams are so vague... Often messes up exams and refuses to give points back. STAY AWAY!!!
He does make a lot of mistakes, on the midterms and the PowerPoints, so watch it. Don't get tripped up when there's no answer on the multiple choice. But he's a good lecturer, an interesting guy, and very easy to talk to outside of class. Very reasonable and responsive to student feedback as well. He makes his own final, too, it was really short.
The nice things are that labs are worth 20% and he gives extra credit. But his lectures suck, he moves really fast and makes it really hard to follow. He's kind of lazy, doesn't post lectures online and uses last quarters midterms as study guides which have nothing to do with the midterm. Also no practice final or any review sessions.
His tests are harder versions of what he does in class, and he always seems like he is too busy and bothered to help his students. He doesn't post a practice final and his practice midterms steer you in the complete opposite direction of what you're supposed to be studying.
Confusing. Below average Lecturer. Hard tests with a decent curve. Would not recommend.
The questions on Lebrilla's midterms and final were much harder than the ones he goes over in class. Also, often makes mistakes in lecture, no practice final, and does not post power points or podcasts(so go to class). He does have a decent curve however, probably since everyone would have failed without it.
He doesnt provide any answers to the questions he assign nor does he go over many example questions. When he teaches he confuses things and does not explain things properly. He also doesn't follow too closely to the arrangement of the textbook so it is difficult to go back and find the part in the textbook if you didnt understand something in class
Professor Lebrilla seems like he is a pretty cool guy outside of school. However, during lecture he is all over the place. He'll go off in random tangents about things unrelated to chem. When he actually does examples, the calculations are wrong or it has the wrong labeling which can be confusing. Also he doesn't give a practice final. Good luck :/
The professor is all over the place every lecture. Must attend lecture to get any information because he does not post lecture slides. His practice exams were nothing like his actual midterms. He doesn't give you more than 3 or 4 equations on the exams. He does not provide a practice final exam. He messes up information frequently in lecture.
Lebrilla is very helpful and willing to help students outside of class. His tests are relatively easy compared to other profs. Final was SO much easier than other professor's finals. Attending lecture is crucial, as his exam is based a lot on lecture. Lectures are decent, some mistakes, but he goes slowly so he's easy to follow.
Take it from me, an average student. Okay guys Lebrilla is honestly not that bad. In fact, his tests were almost exactly like his practice exams. Although he didn't provide a final practice exam, it wasn't necessary because it was easy. Take him, he's a good professor and a good guy! the others are exaggerating ;) Don't worry too much but do study.
He test are not hard, but it is hard for you to study for his test. not practice final which makes it very hard to study for the finals, and not online notes and podcast provide to you. My friends has his class last years and he provide 40 points of extra points but this years he only gives out 20. which is not very fair for the students this year.
I don't know why there are so many negative comments about Lebrilla. He's honestly a pretty clear professor and his lecture notes are very detailed, which is a good and bad thing because it's sometimes hard to keep up with his pace. His teaching style is very CONCEPTUAL, so make sure you understand the concepts well before the tests.
If you have a choice besides Lebrilla, TAKE IT! His lectures are convoluted, his tests are ridiculous and he always brags about himself. I studied more for this class than I ever have for any other class and received a mediocre grade. I considered myself good at chemistry until I took this sham of a class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Think about this: Lebrilla also teaches at the medical school. Yeah. He lectures at a very comfortable pace, but besides that, his midterms are super tricky. There are far fewer FRQ'sthan you'd think. 70% of the midterm is multiple choice. The final is entirely multiple choice. Lebrilla himself seems detached to his job. Don't recommend at all.
Very fair. Go to lecture.
He had a rough start and made some mistakes in lecture, but he always caught them and by a few weeks in he was totally fine. Midterms are straight-forward and practice ones are old midterms, so definitely do those. Highly recommend reading the book and doing his recommended problems (library has solutions manuals). Lectures are super important.
Lebrilla is just an act. He's a professor at the UCD Medical School, and he gives lectures across the world. He's an intelligent man, but has no business teaching a general chem class. "You can read the book for clarification.." LIE! Read ALL the chapters and do all the practice problems! Midterm and final questions are entirely from the book!
Honestly his lectures are a joke, you don't learn anything bc all he does is go over a powerpoint. The tests are very poorly worded. I completely understand chem and his tests will be very unspecific and hard to tell what he's asking. He is a nice guy though.
A "meh" professor. Lectures strictly from powerpoint, but doesn't post lectures before class. Teaches you basic concepts, but doesn't explain how to do the harder problems. Goes off on tangents during lectures about his own research and other stuff. Doesn't seem very passionate about chemistry. Recommend getting Toupadaki's reader to self-teach!
He is honestly not nearly as bad as people think he is. You just have to keep up with the topic and you can easily score an 85+ on tests. His practice tests are very helpful for midterms, and do the homework. He is not a great lecturer and goes on tangents, but the clicker questions keep you listening and you get easy credit for those.
Go to class for clicker, nothing else. Lecture is a waste of time, just do all the practice problems in the book and make sure you get them right. Tests are all multiple choice, so missing 1 questions can drop your grade by 5% -- adds up pretty quick. Class is definitely doable though.
I'm not a fan after having him last year. His lectures were not very helpful, and he would often have to go back and address issues. Also, do expect a different interaction from lectures to in person because he might have joked around in lecture, but he was just irritating to talk to. Never gave me my midterm he said he would regrade either.
Had him for winter 2015, wish I'd put taking Che 2b off until spring so that I could have had a better professor. He doesn't post his powerpoints online, offers no partial credit on exams (all multiple choice), makes many mistakes in his powerpoints and exams, and doesn't help you learn much. If you take him, watch enderle videos and buy his reader
Lebrilla is a terrible professor. He can't teach for crap. His lectures are pointless but you have to go for clicker points and his tests are poorly worded and organized. Missing a question on the test will drop your score 5% since it's all multiple choice. Easy to get a C. Need to buy resources from other teachers (enderletoup reader)
Lebrilla, as nice of a guy as he may be, is an absolutely horrible chem professor. His lectures are full of mistakes that end up confusing the students more. His tests are the same way, very vaguely worded and poorly written. I got an A+ in CHE 2A last quarter and now im struggling with a B- because there is no partial credit
There wasn't a single lecture this quarter in which he had to pause and correct something in class! He's a great person but an average professor. He babies you along with practice examples. All midtermsFinal was ALL multiple choice. I didn't feel challenged like I wanted to.
His lectures make everything seem so easy, albeit they are full of tiny mistakes. His tests leave little elbow room though since missing 1 question is -5%, and there is no partial credit since the exams are MC. He did tweet out exam questions (except for the final), which was pretty cool, but they were the easier ones.
The professor and lectures are very clear and simple. He makes chemistry feel easy and clear. The tests are very straight forward and between lectures and the book problems you will do just fine.
Lebrilla is an average professor. His lectures are very streamlined and you have no access to them. You never feel truly prepared for tests. He gives all MC tests, but that means no partial credit. 1 mistake is 5% off. He provides little to no help in class. If you can skip him, do it. If not, you'll survive, just be prepared to self study
Worst professor ever. His lectures were not helpful at all. He was just reading the questions and numbers in the lectures. A professor teaches us chemistry and what other people cannot tell us, rather than reading the questions. He was so arrogant that he refused to correct his mistakes in his slides.
Lebrilla is okay. His lectures were all on PowerPoints and often had mistakes that students needed to point out. Pretty much every lecture involved some sort of life story from him. Lectures were boring, which is disappointing since thermodynamics are cool. There aren't many demos. Tests were all multiple choice, which means no partial credit.
His lectures are straightforward and well-paced, and clicker participation is mandatory. He doesn't post lecture slides or podcasts online, though, so you'll have to take pictures in class if you want to review the slides later. Studying for his midtermsfinal is challenging because his practice exams are not very related to the actual test.
Since the tests are multiple choice, there is no extra credit . and he only had about 20 questions on his tests so if you get a question wrong , that's 5 percent off! This really hurt my grade. I passed the class but it was challenging! Avoid him if you can!
Lebrilla grades clicker pts on accuracy His tests were hard And he talks too much about how he lectures internationally He does curve but not that much
He is a pretty good chem professor I would definitely take him again. I did take AP Chem in high school so the class was pretty easy for me cause it was all a review, but I still think he is good for people who don't know what they are doing. In my class we had clickers as well so be prepared to have to go to lecture.
Lectures are all slides, doesn't show the work or how problems are solved; went very fast. Unfair grader; he messed up a key on a test question but only gave credit to students who pointed out his mistake (even if other students got question right). Does not teach at an intro level. Tests are all multiple choice. Talks about himself 24/7
Reading powerpoint every lecture. Does not care about students.
Due on the 11th actually means due midnight of the 10th. Have a 75% in the class? Sorry, you're at the bottom percentile, F for you.
Has clicker questions graded on accuracy along with weekly homework assignments that takes on average three to five hours to finish. Reads directly from the ppt every lecture and does not embellish or explain any further. Hard exams has a system where certain percentiles of grades are assigned a letter grade(bottom5% get F, next 15% is D).
Posts lecture slides on canvas the night before. Passionate about chemistry and makes himself available to students. Grades on a curve: Top 15% get A's, Next 30% get B's, Next 35% C's, Next 15% get D's, rest fail. Tough tests that have little to do with homework, but doable. Does many example problems in class. My 73% was curved to a B.
Lebrilla is awesome! Very genuine guy that loves chem and conveys information clearly. Very fair tests and a generous curve (my 85 became an A). Clicker points being graded on accuracy is annoying, but overall a solid choice
Lebrilla is a funny guy that makes lectures interesting. Lectures are mandatory and beware: iClicker points are graded based on correct answers. His class is extremely test heavy: 2 midterms (20% each), final (40%), and everything else (20%). Overall, was a pretty good professor, just get ready to study hard for tests!
Not a bad class. Clickers were used, otherwise I wouldn't have gone to class. He tries to keep the classes attention by doing demos and such. Do the homework, read the textbook, and do extra problems and you'll be ok.
He's good
Loved this professor! He was so adorable and excited to teach the material. His lectures were very straightforward and easy to understand. He did a good job walking through example problems which made homework/tests easier.
Really smart guy, but doesnt know the material he is teaching until its on the slide.
He is a very cute and engaging professor. Not only did he lecture, but he also brought in live experiments to perform in class to better strengthen our understanding. He loves motorcycles, as seen on his screensaver. He played with mercury as a kid, so I don't see why he isn't qualified enough to teach this class. 11/10 would recommend.
He is a good professor, he clearly explains the topic and answers students questions. He does not shut down your answer instead he accepts all answers and whether they right or wrong and explains how to get the answer. However, I would not completely depend on him but your TA as well.
His lectures are straigh from the textbook. The homework he assigns never show up on the tests. The tests are pretty difficult, even my TA thought it was difficult. He is an interesting guy though. But seriously, his lectures are boring and he's just not that great.
He's cool and funny, but that won't teach you anything. You literally have to learn everything on your own. Even the TA's can't figure out the direction he is going. Grade scale was changed days before the final. Nothing in this class tied together. The topics taught in class do not prepare you for what is on the test.
Chem 3A was a pilot class so it was kind of unstructured. The professor was okay, he would go off on unrelated tangents sometimes and be unclear in his explanations of concepts during lecture. Overall he was okay but nothing noteworthy. Tests were okay, two midterms and a final. Grades are pretty dependent on those scores with some help from labs.
Super nice and funny guy! However, he seemed to be unprepared for lectures and lectures did not always relate to test material
Nice and funny w/ good lectures. Lectures + lecture videos uploaded online. Homework isn't even close to midterms/final. Discussion worksheets were like FRQ's on tests. Multiple choice Q's were impossible. Doesn't curve until the end of the quarter, a decent curve but a VERY frustrating class (I hated life). Had a 61.92% on canvas but curved a C.
3A was a bit disorganized but not too difficult. I didn't go to class all the time but the lectures were recorded and posted. Leb tells cool stories and funny jokes, but not the most interesting lectures. The hw was helpful for midterms but not final exam (quite hard). IMO class spends too much time on easy stuff and not enough on hard concepts
Prof. Lebrilla was fairly decent at explaining the concepts outside of class. My TA was awesome, so that helped. Overall, I am indifferent about his teaching style. It is not effective nor detrimental. Would not take his class again.
Lebrilla's lectures were boring and read straight off the powerpoint. I almost didn't pass, but ended up pulling it off due to my amazing TA.
I had Lebrilla for CHE 3A, he was an overall great professor; he actually talked about his life and was engaging. The material was not super tough, though the tests were oddly weighted, switching from heavy on multiple choice to heavy on free response.
I had him for CHE 3A he was very nice and made lectures interesting. His tests were insanely hard and very unfair and had problems that some of the TAs couldn't do. Most of the tests had mistakes that were never corrected. Nice guy but wouldn't recommend
Professor Lebrilla presented a great personality in lecture, but did wander when teaching -- which was welcome when the slides became monotonous. Passion-driven and depends on you to possess a semblance of understanding of the textbook material before lectures.
