Take PHIL 1301 with him! He truly wants his students to make the best grade possible, he does anything for students & everyone should make an A or B. All exams & the final are open note open book. Easy to take notes in lecture, he tells you what you need to know. He reviews before each test, easy A
prof. atalay always makes sure everything is clear. his tests are straight from the notes and the class before the test he already has the test made out and he reviews everything that is on it.
He is veeeerrryyyy easy and very passionate about the subject. The class is boring but you will make an A or B. He is a very nice guy. He will keep you entertained by emphasizing on certain words like " THE ABSURRRDDDD!" If ou participate then he will like you.
He is awesome!Very easy and helpful. He makes the subject as simple as possible and always ready to clear ur doubts.exams are all from his notes, so just make sure that u attend his classes regularly and dont miss the lectures. Attending the lectures are important to understand the questions he'll gi
Very easy. Makes this boring subject easy to understand. His tests are open book and open note. Gives great reviews before the test. Awesome teacher.
Awsome teacher, gives handouts for every test.He even goes over the material that is going to be on the test the class before the test. One of the best teachers at San Jac.
Every test is open note and open book. Just show up to class, take notes, and you will get an A.
Wonderful professor! He loves the subject and it shows in his teaching. He writes everything clearly on the board and is always available to discuss material after class. The subject is deep and very interesting if approached with an inquisitive attitude. Two thumbs up!!
Very good! He was so helpful!
Absolutely wonderful teacher, lectures, writes notes on the board (easy to follow), gives summary handouts, then reviews handouts. By the end of each class you know and understand exactly what you should (you actually retain the info. too) Take this class!!
It was so nice to have a teacher that actually loved teaching! He is Awesome!
he may sound easy but be careful, he is very biased/**** he select who gets A OR B from by merely looking at the class. If you really want to get A, ths class is not for you. You might be unlucky. Imagine him saying after the first test, 'this class is making A and B and it cannot change!

He is unbelievable, his vocabulary and passion is amazing.
Amazing teacher. Makes it his burden for you to understand his teachings. Very caring and polite to his students. His passion shines right through him and makes his class a joy to take. He is a funny one to..!
Great teacher really tries to help you understand philosophy. He is very passionate about teaching and it shows. Very nice guy but dont take him because he has open book tests because the tests can be quite challenging. You really have to study to get an A
at first it's hard to understand him b/c of his accent but you get used to it. come to class, take good notes b/c the tests are open note/open book and 1 essay. Really wants you to understand philosophy instead of memorize it. I would recommend him for philosophy definently. The final is comprehensive, no essay, open note/open book.
Class was extreamly easy. Tests are multiple choice with an 8 point essay, open book & note. Goes over everything until everyone understands it, and does an extreamly thorough review before the test. If your passionate about philosophy though, you will probably find the class too slow.
Best Teacher I ever had... i'm actually suprised he doesn't have a 5 rating. I like philosophy before i took the class and even if you don't he is an excellent teacher. His accent is cool and he believes in what he teaches... Like has been said he goes over everything right before the tes so just focus your notes on the day before the test!
He knows what hes talking about, but I hated how he wrote his notes! It's like your reading a map sometimes you can read it then other times your just lost. Try not to miss class cuz he takes notes till the end of the period & borrow notes if you do miss class! Cuz it will be on the test! Essays are easy. Multiple choice questions can be difficult
I found this class extremely difficult. His jokes weren't even funny. He picks favorites and puts you on the spot. Test are hard even if they are open book. Notes are very disorganized. Take it if you like deep thinking.
I was very afraid of this class going into it, as I understood it to be quite dificult. Prof Ataly makes a real effort to clearly explain everything and demands participation from everyone in the class. Tests are open book and open notebook, so if you don't miss class and take good notes, you should make an A.

I am not really intersted in this class and not good at taking note but professor Atalay make it easy. He wrote what he wants the students to write on the board and explain it until we understand it. You can see that he likes teaching philosophy so his enthusiasm makes the class more intersting. Great teacher! He'll do everything he can to help you
I have always considered myself a philosopher, so this class is one that I was highly anticpating.. I enjoyed it very much and wish the class woulg go on and on.. Anyways, Professor Atalay is a very good professor with a slight accent, but his passion for the subject and practice of philosophy surpasses that.
Very very nice teacher.Sometimes its really hard to understand him in his south american accent, but still whatever he writes on the blackboard just write it down coz it helps in an OPEN BOOK tests. He's tests are straight from the notes with one essay question.Take him if u want to score an easy A.Thanks Mr.Atalay
WOW..this teacher is GREAT!!! Very clear when he teaches..TAke notes and use them on the test and recieve an A..but you have to take GOOD notes..and make sure you know what you write..TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! NOW!
He's great! He's so friendly, and he's strange... he looks like Dracula. :)
World Religions. Seemed cool first day. Class discussions are always interesting but the class seems to have died, everyone lost intrest. Let's you use notes/book on tests. 46 questions on tests @ 2 pts, 1 page essay 8 pts. (easy). He is kind of funny most days. He has a thick accent but it's cute.
i took this class because the comment on here said he was good and he was but i failed his class because i lost concentration he was very boring the test were open book but the answers were all to close on the multiple choice to were you would guess there ar no extra grades 1st exam 2nd exam mid term 3rd exam and final exam
Great professor. Pay close attention in class, take notes from the board and look for the deeper meanings and you'll do great. Excellent!
he is an awesome teacher he let's you use your notes and the handouts DURING THE TEST. His test is multiple choice and one essay q' but it's really easy. don't need to buy the book. Plus the tutor for that class is a very kewl girl and she's hot!!
Neat guy, very knowledgeable. MUST go to class as tests are open book and everything comes from his notes. Course is structured like hist class, test questions require some higher order thinking. Lets students come up w/4 essays for each test, then he picks one. Has slight accent, but will repeat himself.Class was harder than I thought it would be.
Don't expect to discuss current issues- you'll be learning the history of philosophy up to Aristotle, and nothing else. You can use your lecture notes for all tests, so while attendance isn't mandatory, I highly recommend showing up and getting the notes. Go to class; get your A. Don't bother buying the text; only cracked it once the entire sem.
This is a rather easy class. Go to all the classes because if you miss a day of notes it will probably be a large part of the test. All his tests are open note so you don't even have to study. The tests are kind of hard mainly because the questions force you to analyze the answers and he usually has D) all of the above.
Very nice man and willing to help. Very difficult to understand with his thick accent. Wore a neck brace all last semester which limited the mobility of his jaw and made him even harder to understand. Difficult to stay motivated and attend class.
Ok just go to class and participate. paying attention helps. if you don't understand just ask and he will make you understand. even if you don't do entirely good on your tests, if you ask questions and participate in class you will still come out with a good grade. he's funny and has a funny accent.dont get the book & theres no hw!!
he is the best ever
He is a very nice professor but very difficult to understand. His tests are hard even with the open note due to his confusing multiple/choice tests. If you are good at analyzing things then he is for you if not keep looking. He gives lots of D's and F's on his tests.
Nice man! Tests are semi-difficult, but OPEN NOTE! He has a sense of humor and really knows the material. Pretty thick accent and some mild language usage, but good teacher. DO NOT MISS A LECTURE. He helps you out, especially if you have excellent attendance. Don't bother getting the textbook! I would take him again!
I took Professor Ataly for philosophy. I went in not knowing a thing and came out with a great appreciation for philosophy. Very passionate about his subject, very smart. He has an accent but hes easy to understand, Go to class take notes, take the OPEN NOTE test! Its not a easy A, but easy b+. Very good teacher, go to the review sessions!
Prof Atalay places a lot of emphasis on clarity, and tries to concentrate on understanding the concepts instead of memorizing them. All tests are open book, open notes.
Atalay is passionate about teaching. He takes time to give awsome notes and he explains anything unclear without any question. Lectures most of class, but in terms you understand. NO MOMBO JUMBO! I actually remembered things we went over without any study. Tests are not too hard, but you are able to use notes. TAKE HIM!
This guy is a great teacher. He knows his sutff and is always willing to help if you ask. Test are open book and notes so, you will only fail if you dont have any. You cant go wrong with this guy.
Man... what can I say? This guy preached one thing in class... and his tests reflected material that he had never even spoken about. THIS CLASS WAS HARD and I still managed a C. PLEASE RECONSIDER taking this professor. He really needs to retire. I coud barely understand his english, due to his heavy accent.
No need for the book, just take notes and GO TO THE S.Is before tests... the test is directly from yor notes. Easy A.
besides not being able to learn with his deep thick spanish accent, his notes are extremely unorganized on the dry erase board. never uses book or handouts so you are forced to his voice and his messy notes. don't take him.
Yes, it is true he has an accent and he writes some ongoing notes, but he will take the time to explain things, he is kind and respectful to the students and HIS TESTS ARE OPEN NOTE AND BOOK. Just take good notes and you will be good.
I loved this class and the fact that what he taught was what appeared on the test. This class is not for lazy students though, because you have to be in class, take notes in order to pass the exam.I would take his class if I had to,he is passionate about philosophy.I made an A.
Great teacher who knows his stuff. Never boring and he asks you questions. Test are open book open note and he is great.
very nice guy but his test are very hard, his questions are very tricky, he allows u 2 use ur notes in class but the questions r very confusing
he's VERY PASSIONATE about what he teaches. don't take him early in the morning like i did, it's impossible to stay awake lol. but the class is interesting if you like philosphy, the tests are hard if u don't take his notes on the board. but overall, he's ok, BUT NOT AN EASY A.
he is very smart. he knows what he is teaching. he does he an accent but its no very thick. if you have any questions he will answer. he wants you to understand. he wants you to do well. i hate philosophy but i love him.
I took him for Summer. You have to come to class as participation is part of the grade. Take copious notes! Pay attention and try not to take the morning class; you'll fall asleep! Test questions are quite tricky even when they're open notes: take your time, ask him for help, and show him you want that A: you'll get that A.
He is difficult to understand at times, but he will always clarify for you. All his tests are open book, and almost word for word pulled from the notes he gives. Take good notes and you won't have a problem. He's very passionate about his subject, and extremely knowledgeable.
His accent was hard for me to understand at first, and his handwriting gets sloppy at times but I learned to get used to it. He's willing to help you and his tests are open book, but i still thought it was hard because the tests has many trick questions. I didn't like this class. Also, attendance is mandatory because his notes are on the tests.
Do not take this professor if you are not interested in philosophy. The class is boring, notes are not to clear, and his tests are very hard. I would go to SI for help and still make C's on my test.
Ive taken his intro to world religions class this semester. He is a wonderful teacher and very knowledgeable in his subjects. His notes are exactly what you will see on the test, and they are open book/open note. His accent is not bad you just have to listen. He will always answer any questions you have. I enjoyed his class and learned quite a bit.
He is a really nice guy!Just go to class and take notes. There it ALOT of writing so I would recommend a laptop, you can play a good game of solitaire and still get everything down, not to mention all tests are open note! The SI is extremely helpful. The tests are a little hard at first but once you get use to his wording its easy. I recommend him!
I took his philosophy class and WOW that was hard. I been in college 2 years and this was my first D. He tries to trick u on the test. his notes dont make sense at all. do not take this class. im still pissed i got a D
Boring class, he is cool but class isnt. Test are extremely HARD. Like the teacher hate the class..
Professor Atalay wants you to understand the materials very well. He writes lots of notes on the board and explains every single sentence. His tests are open notes but you have to study and understand them because otherwise the test will be onfusing.
The most awesome passionate philosophy teacher ever! He says he's retired and that teaching is his hobby! Very into his subject and encourages class interaction! Show up to class and take down everything he writes on the board; his tests are open note = A. I thoroughly enjoyed his class! Take it!!!
If you wanna write a lot take this class, if you wanna pass you better love to write and make sure he makes sure you're on the roll sheet because apparently if you miss a certain amount of days you have to take an essay final which is harder, basically punishing you for missing class, although his test are open book/note he asked them difficultly.
Terrible teacher. Don't take him. Test questions are all trick questions. If you miss too many days, you'll have 20 essay questions for your final. He grades essays ridiculously. You must show up to class everyday because of notes. Open Notes/Book Tests are not what they seem because of all the trick questions and his strict grading. Vindictive.
I took this class in the summer. He is an awesome teacher and loves what he is teaching. His tests are open book/open note. He TRYS to make some of the questions tricky (to make you think) but they are still easy. Easy A if you show up and take notes. Love this prof. Id recommend him to anyone!
His accent was very difficult to understand. I made him aware that I had to go out of town in advance and I asked if there were any tests during that week. He said "don't worry about it" and when I returned I had missed a test and he wouldn't let me make it up. I later dropped after he lashed out at me for doing math in his boring class.
He is a great professor, very passionate about the subject. His accent is easy to get used to. Show up to class and take notes. His tests are open book/notes and with them you'll be fine. I didn't have any problems with his "trick questions". He just wants to make you think. Take him - you'll learn a lot. :)
He is very hard to understand, you do not need the book, just your notes. I studied and went to SI and I got a B. His test are triky and hard to know what he is really asking and wanting for anwswer. I don't recomend him.
Excellent.
REALLY NICE TEACHER MAKES UR MIND WORK TESTS ARE SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT BUT ALL IN ALL GREAT CLASS
Very tough class...over 1/3 of the class has dropped. Some, including myself are hanging on by a thin thread.
He was hard to understand and did not make this class worth going to. He used inappropriate language to make jokes but personally i dont agree with using the "f" word. Don't even think about using your phone or he calls you out in the middle of class. thanks to this guy i will undoubtedly have to take phil again
I took him thinking it was going to be an interesting topic and an easy A. That's not the case.U write notes all class long, attendance is mandatory. If you miss more than one class w/out it being excused, your final is 20 essay questions. C'monI like him as a person, he's kind/interesting but he is intellectual in everything. Tests included. NO NO
He's a hard professor, has a heavy accent. He is an amazing Philosophy professor, he is passionate about the subject. His test are open notes, and he is willing to clarify any questions you have during the exam. If you don't pass his class is because you are lazy and don't ask questions. SI is very helpful.
Prof. Atalay is interesting. You take notes literally everyday. He has a quiz every second class day of the week. He is willing to help you, you just have to ask and put forth an effort. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE. He hates it. He makes these jokes that really arent funny. But overall, he is pretty interesting.
Took his World religions class. Attendance is mandatory. Expect to write notes every single day. He has a very heavy accent, making it hard to understand him at times. You don't need the textbook at all, even though he tells you to read it. Tests are open notes, but even being open notes, they're still REALLY challenging.essay on every test as well.
Thought this class was going to be something that really grabbed my attention..but it didn't. Its really hard to understand him because of his accent and he speaks really fast sometimes. His notes are all over the board and can get confusing at times. Tests are open book/notes but they are still hard. At one point over halft the class was failing.
Atalay is an amazing teacher. Only lazy students had a problem with him. He is incredibly knowledgable and passionate about his subject. If you are looking for an easy A, don't bother. You have to take notes, and study. (It is college, effort is required) Best professor i've had at San Jac. I would highly recommend his class. Excellent teacher.
Prof. Atalay is an alright instructor but his class is hard. Some of the stuff on his test doesn't correlate to what we need to know. He even gave us a test that we all were not ready for because we only had 2 days to study. He's hard, but he's not a bad instructor.
Although this course was much more difficult than i had anticipated, it was still knowledgable and interesting. Professor Atalay is extremely passionate and open-minded. I really wanted a A, but i didn't study as much as i should due to every test being open book/notes! Don't think its just a free grade because youll have to work for it!!
he was pretty easy! come on open books and notes what more could you ask for, he underlined the stuff that was going to be on the test, and he gave you a study guide before the test, CAKE! the tests were a little tricky i got a B+ only because i was working and taking 5 classes if you are debating whether to take him please do! no textbook required
Great teacher! He is extremely passionate about his subject and loves what he does. So its not boring. As long as you take notes, you're fine because the tests are open notes! No book really even needed. I bought it but haven read it. His tests are STRAIGHT from the notes he makes you take and his reviews are LEGIT.
Really enjoyed his class. He is passionate about what he teaches. I loved the fact that the test were open book open notes but you obviously still have to study and write all of the notes down because the test is word for word.
Professor Atalay is a very good teacher who is passionate about philosophy and makes the material easier to understand. Make sure to take good notes during the class because test questions are based on the in-class notes. If you are willing to work hard and study, this class is an A. I would definitely recommend taking him.
I loved his class, he is an awesome teacher and absolutely loves what he teaches! He is hard to understand at times because of his accent but he is great and i would take him again!
Wonderful professor, his classes were the high point of my time at San Jac. His tests are open note/book but don't think that means you can slack off, pay attention and you'll do fine. He also facilitates some amazing in class discussions, so if you enjoy debating ideas, or having your brain stretched, then this is the class for you!
Nice and funny guy but will call you out for using your cellphone which kind of made me mad. O well. Doesnt like you to be late either. GO TO SI! It really helps get higher test grades. Its open note tests too so just go to class and copy everything he writes and make sure you UNDERSTAND it.
Professor Atalay is very professional and an excellent educator - wants his students to learn. He demands that students be attentative and alert in class. He provides resources to help for example extra reading and student instructor classes.
He is a nice guy and wants you to ask questions and get involved. I personally HATE being called on so his class has been hard for me. I also find it extremely hard to understand his accent. I also find lectures to be pretty boring. Overall, its a blah class.
Great guy wants you to be in class. Test are hard if you don't go to class or take notes. Writes everything you need on the board. Still a hard class.
Professor Atalay is the BEST! He loves what he does. He is interested in his students learning. Writes everything on the board!! I did not even open the book in the whole semester. Just arrive early, pay attention, copy everything from the board, study it and you'll!! If you don't understand, he'll explain it to you as many times as needed!
Hs really passionate about philosophy. I came in thinking it would be extremely boring but it was actually not too bad. Book wasn't needed even though he made some references to it. Tests are open book/note but that's because he tests more on understanding. Wording on tests are sometimes confusing. Overall good class.
i took 3 wk mini -- Just show up and take notes.. he will let you use notes on test.. no book required.. my advice is dont miss unless you gotta and if you do miss get notes from classmate.. do this and get your A! btw he really really loves this course and that made me enjoy it as well..
awesome teacher. loves his job and teaching about this subject. really brings philosophy to life. pop quizes just review your notes from previous day. tests are open book open notes. could have gotten a much better grade if i tried and studied. very helpful teacher! definitely recommend him!!
I would definitely NOT recommend this teacher. His test are hard and he puts in trick questions just to trip you up. If he asks you a question you do not know he makes YOU feel stupid instead of encouraging you to get the right answer. Yeah, 30 students all missed the same question but it's OUR fault entirely not his teaching method what-so-ever...
Atalay has an enormous amount of knowledge about the subject and passion for Philosophy. Tests are easy if you pay attention and show up to all classes. Plus, he lets you use notes and the review during tests and the final! I recommend him!
he is very hard to understand because he is missing his bottom teeth and has a spanish accent...also, he makes his test questions rather hard and tries to trick you alot. Also he askes questions sometimes and if you dont know it and say something, he will embarress you/ take someone else, trust me!
I don't understand why Prof. Atalay would get a bad review. This class is extremely easy. He lets you use your notes/book on tests and final but his test are kinda tricky due tot he wording. He does call out people to answer questions.I thought I wasn't going to like him because of the rates but he ended up being a good prof. I recommend to take him.
His class is somewhat interesting. It's important to write down everything he writes and make sure everything is clear to you. It's a good thing that you can use your notes on test days but the tests are too easy either. He will trick you so make sure you read the question correctly. Great professor.
Prof Catalay's great. Even though his tests are hard and tricky, and yes his accent, too; but he's nice and helpful. He will try his best to help you if you really try to learn and want a good grade in his class. He will pass you if you attend to class daily and act like you really want to learn. He's sweet and respectful. Love him!
Great Professor. Incredibly passionate toward the subject. He cares if you care. He will help you if you simply put in the effort. Be CONFIDENT and be SOCIAL! The only wrong answer in his class is "I dont know". I feel very privileged to have had him as my professor. I learned things I will never forget. AMAZING HUMAN BEING!
Good teacher and likes helping his students if he sees them trying . Overall it is a hard class but with effort and his notes should be fine
His tests are EXTREMELY confusing! He has a heavy accent so its very hard to understand him and he even writes how he talks so some things dont make sense. he clears his throat really really loud and its super distracting and annoying. the only thing keeping me alive is that his tests are open book/open notes. wouldnt recommend taking his class
Great professor and all, except two things to keep in mind, when taking notes are hard to read (just some) and he will call on everyone when asking a question at least one time during the semester. Other than that, so I recommend him, especially since he also allows open notes exams, no joke!
ExTremely hard. Won't recommend him for anyone. Tests are not at all similar to his notes. Exams are open book but still heavily twisted and confusing. Was failing in the class but final was not confusing so made over all C. For second exam whole class failed. Thant might have helped.
Be warned, if you're uncomfortable with teachers cursing, he may not be the best for you. He's really interested in philosophy, so it makes the class a bit less boring. His lectures are long, but the tests are difficult since they're open note and open book. I never used my book except for the term paper. Also, everyone does bad on the Plato test.
Dont take this guy if you wanna pass. He doesn't assign homework so theres no homework grades so you have to do well on his tests. He doesnt really teach whats in the book so you dont even need a book and He is very boring. Also, he is rude and will embarass you infront of the class for something as little as being late or not knowing the answer.
He has an accent but it is not very bad. He writes everything he says verbatim onto the board so I don't know what people have a problem with. He then uses what he wrote on the board to form most of the OPEN NOTE tests. If you take good notes you should get a B or better in this class. If you don't show up, you will fail. I enjoyed this class.
He is very VERY boring and his lectures are long, but he writes everything he says on the board and his tests are open noteopen book. He has an accent that is difficult to understand sometimes. He WILL call on you even if you don't have your hand up so you have to pay attention.
Prof Atalay is very passionate and tests are open booknotes. Sounds great, right? It wasn't. I have taken 8 college classes and gotten an A in 7 of them. I got a low C in this class. The tests were extremely difficult. It was a nightmare. If you take this class, read the book, go over your notes,go to the study sessions, and don't miss any class.
I took this class during the 3 week mini summer session. The lectures were long, but he gives you a 15 min break. YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION. All tests are open book and open note. The first week of the mini there are quizzes in the morning. DO NOT BE LATE. He will call you out. If you have questions on anything, including the tests he will help!
Took him for a 3 week summer mini. His lectures can be a bit boring. HOWEVER, he is always willing to help if you are struggling. When I told him I didn't have a book and was struggling to fully understand all the concepts he let me borrow his instructors copy of the text book and gave me a copy of one of his previous honor students notes.
Professor Atalay is one of the best people I've ever been lucky enough to experience. Critical thinking is so crucial in his class, and that's what I love about him -- he encourages thinking! If you're in school to learn, not just pass classes, you'll probably really enjoy him. His tests are tricky, so take good notes, ask questions and study lots!
Horrible professor, DO NOT RECCOMEND. Tests are open note but tests are designed to make you fail, usage of tricky words and nothing correlates with the exam. Take someone else, his accent is not too rough but all he does is write and write on the board. Bring coffee, or an energy drink to STAY AWAKE if you do take him. Not a good professor.
Prof. Atalay is a funny, and intelligent teacher. He will always help you when you ask for it. The exams are open notes, so if you do the REVIEW that is HANDED OUT during class, with the class, you're good. Some of the questions on his exams are written poorly, but ask him what they mean, and you'll do fine. If you apply yourself, you'll succeed.
Took a 3 week mini. Great Philosophy professor when it comes to teaching. His method of teaching is directly writing all of his notes on the board. It's very hard to stay awake in his class. Test are all open notes but are very tricky. Text book is not needed, so don't bother wasting your money. Work hard in the class and you'll get your grade.
Overall he is a good professor although he has a accent. He WILL help you when you need it, and really cares about his students making good grades. He has very clear notes for the test which are all open notes. On the test though his wording is very different making it difficult. I took him for a honor class, and he helps you try to get an A.
I went to class everyday, wrote down every thing on the board, recorded every lecture, and still failed his class. The reviews look nice & helpful and it sounds great when he mentions test are open note and book. But the tests are tricky and unclear. He is rude and will make fun of you if you don't answer a question correctly. DONE RECOMMEND AT ALL
Professor Atalay is not a bad professor but Philosophy is a tough subject and he has an accent so it can sometimes be hard to understand him. His notes are somewhat clear but I went to the tutor before every test for more clarity. His tests are hard because of his wording; it's very tricky. DO NOT be late t his class, he hates it. Textbookuseless
Tests are open note
Be ready to write down everything he has to say during his lectures because he does open note exams, but the exams still require that you study from the book as well.
He is old school, he has a thick accent but you can understand if you want to. Pop quizzes every class during summer and tests are open note and book. He is passionate about philosophy and you can learn a ton! Love him with his direct and honest personality , he's a sweetheart.
Test are open notes. He does have an accent but if you write down everything he puts on the board and read out of the textbook you should be fine. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about Philosophy. Don't ever take your phone out or day dream because he will call you out in the middle of the class.
Professor Atalay is a heavy lecturer. All he does throughout class is write on the board and you must copy it down to get a good grade on the tests. Tests are open book & notes. I didn't use the textbook, just his notes and made an A in the class. He also calls out people during his lectures so be prepared to answer.
Professor Atalay is a fantastic professor. He will go the extra mile to make sure you understand the subject material. He is just like any other college professor that cares about his students. If you show you are working hard you will be rewarded. I mean the tests are open note! How could anyone fail this class?
Does not explain things clearly. Really tough grader. He just flat out sucks. Be ready to write a lot of notes
Has a thick accent, but puts everything he says on the board. Only one 3pagepaper, and four tests. All are open note and he spends the class before each test reviewing a study guide. No group projects. No reading assignments so no textbook required. He is old school, very passionate about philosphy, and cares about his students. I loved this class
I am a huge fan of this Professor. His accent made it a bit difficult for me to understand him at times, but he had no problem repeating himself for me. Super nice and funny. Goes over the content very well. If you are confused he does his very best to help. Also his student aid Robert is very helpful. Go to the study groups, the help!
His teaching and his tests are perfectly fine, but i will definitely not recommend him to anybody at all. Even though old, he is very disrespectful to students. If you don't like to obey and conform like me, you are not going to enjoy his class.
I did not use the textbook at all. He writes everything on the board which is helpful because he has a little bit of an accent. His tests are open note however you have to read each question of the test extra careful because they are a little bit tricky. One research paper that is 7 pages long...I know. He cares about his students
Prepare to write notes for literally an hour and a half straight every time you enter his class. The only things he grades in this class were three test and just one paper. Although he does let you use notes and study guides on the test, so that's the only plus. Just show up to class and try to pay close attention.
Professor Atalay is passionate about Philosophy, he is a tough grader, but if you show him you are willing to work for your grade, he will work with you. Be ready to write lots of notes!
Do not take this professor! The lectures are dull and he has very little visual aid, he just writes everything on the board. I copied lectures word for word and did the study guides which are supposed to be open not but it DOES NOT HELP! He has a short temper with late students and gets distracted easily. I struggled so much to pass the exams.
Carlos Atalay, a highly recommended professor for the teaching of Philosophy. The course was great, indeed he answered all of my questions repeatedly until I understood. The tests are usually 2 exams and a final, be prepared to listen as he writes a lot on the board, most of the answers will be found in notes. Highly recommend.
If you are not a creative thinker do not take this class. This class was very hard for me and was the first class I have ever received a C in. He calls on you randomly to answer question and if you do not know he is very rude and makes comments. Do not take this class
You MUST go to class to pass. If you take good notes you will do perfectly fine in this class. He can be rude so show up to class on time. NEVER be late unless you want the stink eye. Always make sure you are prepared. This class was fairly easy just make sure you are prepared.
Mr. Atalay is a very intelligent man who is passionate about teaching, though his accent can be very difficult to understand. He can also be quite rude to people he randomly calls on to answer his questions, or if you are late he will make unnecessary comments as you get in the class. I wouldn't recommend taking him unless you have patience.
Professor Atalay is extremely strict and expects a lot from his students. Though he writes all the notes on the board and his exams are open book, his class is very tough to get through. He is extremely critical often makes people feel stupid and uncomfortable. I would not take his class again and do not recommend it.
Incredible professor, has a lot to offer to those who actually want to learn. Will definitely call you out for being dumb or not paying attention, so don't go in expecting it to be a blow off class. He has a lot of passion for philosophy, so he won't take it lightly if you disrespect his passion by texting or talking in the middle of class.
DO NOT TAKE!!! Unless you have a lot of knowledge about philosophy already.I dont recommend. I will also warn you he has a thick accent and he makes things sound much more confusing. He will call you out if your late or miss a day, and pop quizzes are almost everyday. He doesnt understand students have a life outside of class & very hard grader
If I could give him a 0 I would. Worst professor Ive ever taken. HEs strict and a tough grader. If you would like struggle and be lost completely. By all means go ahead.
Learned the most in this class than any other at San Jac.
Professor Atalay is very passionate about philosophy, but does have a very short temper. He WILL call you out in front of everyone and makes you feel stupid if you do not know the answer to a question. If you can teach yourself with only notes from a very dull lecture, by all means take his class. Its just sit, lecture, leave everyday in his class.
this guy is terrible. save yourself and do not take this class
He's a nice teacher but he has a thick accent which can be hard to understand sometimes. He only gives 3 exams, written paper, and final so if you don't do well, you will fail the class easily. ATTEND ALL THE LECTURES or you will never get the notes also take quality notes as he lets everyone use them in all the tests + final exam. He is nice tho
This guy is not terrible but he is very strict and will call you out infront of class. He asks direct questions and has a very mocking tone. Very sarcastic and if your responses are off by like one word he counts it wrong. Can sometimes be understanding but Id prefer not to talk to him. Would not take again unless it is absolutely necessary.
Awful, Just pick another professor
Professor Atalay is an interesting man. He is old and will call you out if youre not paying attention. He calls on everyone in the class to give answers and opinions. Hes somethings difficult to understand due to a language barrier and his lectures are hand written on the board and can become confusing. You can use notes on exams
You have to work your tail off. His class is graded on tests that are MC and tricky fill in the blank with a short essay that you get to vote on class before the test. He has a paper as well. Final replaces lowest grade. ONLY thing that saved me was his TA. I went to every single sesh before the test and made a 98. OPEN NOTE tests so know them.
DO NOT take this class. hardest class I have ever took. The professor is very rude as well.
Professor Atalay is one of the greatest professors I've ever had. I was so disappointed when I found out he did not have a phil1302. He's the kind of person that if you talk to him long enough you'll learn everything there is to know about the history of philosophy. However, his class is not for the faint of heart, it can be very challenging.
Honestly one of the best professors I've had so far, he is clearly very very passionate about Philosophy. He is pretty lecture-heavy, but the lectures are involved and notes are easy to take. He also provides extra notes that help a lot for tests. Overall, he gave excellent lectures and the tests were not hard if you paid attention in class.
Professor Atalay is really good at his job. He loves teaching philosophy, and he made the class fun. Although he does talk a lot, he makes sure everyone understands the material adequately. Tests are open note, and are fairly easy if you understand the material. Know the big concepts and take notes!! Really good notes.
Only had four assignments, three exams and one essay. You NEED to listen during class to understand the topics, although his accent makes it a little hard to understand. If you try, you can understand and take good notes. He'll also help with the assignments in a timely matter if u email him and replaces the low test scores with the higher ones.
