He is very considerate, understands student's struggle, Topics he covers are very fun, plays lots of movies and very lenient.
Amazing professor! Dr. Bazua is very passionate about anthropology, and really knows what he is talking about. He does a great job of making the concepts clear to students, and truly wants to see you win. Dr. Bazua is extremely forgiving and leniant, and did his absolute best to accommodate everybody in the class. It was a pleasure to take him!
I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Bazua!! As long as you keep up with the assignments, you will FOR SURE get an A. He is very passionate when it comes to his profession and really cares about his students. If you are looking for a fun and interesting GE, take this class! You won't regret it!
He assigns a lot of readings but he's honestly one of the most dedicated and inspirational teachers at DVC . Would definitely take again .
I learned things in Bazua's class that apply to real life and feel like a better person for taking his class. Things like "the group in power writes history, etc." He assigns many short articles to read, but they are very interesting and oftentimes easy to read. You will love his class if you are interested in equality and understanding oppression!
He is the type of Teacher who motivates and encourages his student to reach their full potential in DVC. he's kind to international student and really likes a good story ! He's an active individual who respect equality and push back oppression! 10/10 Very good teacher!
Just participate, do all of your H.W you will get an A+ for sure
"It's okay, don't stress!" It was an intense 7 weeks class. He is very nice, caring and understanding; he listens to you. The subject itself might be boring and hard for people who don't need anthropology, but if you follow his lectures along and are willing to read the articles he assigned, then you will be able to do well in class.
Prof. Bazua is amazing. He understands what students go through and is very understanding. I sometimes worry if people take advantage of him - i surely hope students are better than that because it is difficult to find a teacher who truly cares for students, is motivational and teaches with the perspective of real life and not just the syllabus.
I took his intersession cultural anthropology class. His class is super easy as long as you do all the work and show up. He's very lenient with deadlines and he lets you use your notes/assignments on the final! There is a lot of work and his lectures can be boring but he really cares about the subject. Take him!
Great teacher! Very lenient with homework. Tons of reading article and summary. Most understanding and nicest teacher you'll ever have! Do all the reading he assigned and do a summary, show up in class, you will A's it. Its a lot of reading yet manageable!
Really cool dude! Super lenient with deadlines. His lectures can be a little dry but as long as you show up and turn everything in you're gaurenteed an A! He automatically gives 100% on every assignment as long as you turn it in. He's super enthusiastic and funny, highly recommend taking his class!
Profs. Carlos is so amazing! This is the second class I have taken with him and he's been super chill and passionate each time. He really cares about his work and has a lot of knowledgable things to share. He makes it very known that we aren't fighting for one A and he encourages group work. It makes the class super easy and really fun. Take him!
Beyond amazing. He is such an inspiration and goes above and beyond to educate his students about the narratives that get silenced by those who write history. This man is a revolutionary. He is so passionate about what he teaches and will change your whole worldview in just one class. He's the professor I inspire to be one day.
Very easy A. Kind and passionate teacher who cares about students' well being. The class, however, is scattered at best. Homework and lectures have little to no relevance to one another, topics are briefly touched on but not explained in depth, entire lectures are skipped due to 50 minute tangents about rock climbing.
I got to audit this class to see if i'm interested in taking it next semester and I like his style of teaching and the students seem to be happy.
Every good review on him boils down to this "He's nice/He's an easy A". Sure. Now, for those of you actually looking to learn, swerve. He is unorganized, talks endlessly off topic and can't synthesize info. No one participates, as no one knows WHAT is going on (and there are some very good students in the class). Should NOT teach intro!!!
Professor Bazua is a nice person, but he is unorganized at teaching and his lectures are dry. Most of the class was confused this whole semester because we were jumping into diff topics all the time. Easy A, but I didnt learn anything since it wasnt well structured. He is caring though
Prof. Bazua is always full of energy. You can clearly tell that he's really passionate about the subject, and his knowledge is really broad. He's always lively on lectures, so you won't get bored. He's also friendly, remembers your names, and you can always contact him outside of class. Don't skip class, because attendance is highly graded.
Great professor but unorganized. However, you can tell he's going "off topic" to further draw connections. 100% a real anthropologist teaching anthropology. Lots of time-consuming HW but it's super easy. Attendance is super important & heavily affected my grade. Make sure you're ready to take notes, make connections, and learn a lot.
Nice guy over all and is very accessible outside of class. He assigns a very heavy workload but is understanding with deadlines and also has a lot of opportunities for extra credit , but still its a lot of homework and unclear projects. His lectures can get interesting but very messy and the connections he makes seem to make sense to him only.
Good person, not a good prof. Assigned HW and moved dates of assignments and never mentioned it. Lectures have nothing to do with HW and have nothing to do with the book and quizzes. Didn't know how to explain himself well and expected everyone to know without giving explanations. Was a very frustrating class to take
Dr. Bazua loves to lecture and talk for pretty much the whole class, it's not too bad since you can just work on something else or use a laptop and he doesn't care. You don't have too many assignments and you can turn them in as late as you want with an excuse. He also has a weird obsession with Mt. Everest.
Dr. Bazua is a passionate teacher but unorganized. Makes connections that seem only makes sense to him while the whole class is lost. Thought I would be learning about global cultures but this class is literally all about people climbing Mt. Everest. Really boring and not interesting, Easy A though just show up and complete all assignments.
Dr. Bazua is a great professor. He loves to help everyone and anyone. He does give lots of homework but he gives you time to turn it in late if you really need it. He tells you at the beginning of class that he is there to climb Mount Everest with you. He gives a lot of doable homework. Would take him again.
Dr. Bazua is passionate about the subject he teaches and is always enthusiastic.. never seen him mad/grumpy. Gives you full credit on all assignments as long as you turn them in, even if it's late. He does talks alot about Mt. Everest but some films he shows in class is interesting. Definitely recommend for an easy A.
Took the 3 week course in the summer and it was by far the easiest course I've ever taken. The class is a free A but at the same time the material taught is meaningful and will definitely stick with you. Recommended for both anthro and non anthro majors.
highly recommend
I took his 3 week summer class. He is very passionate about what he does. The only flaw was most of the work we got graded on we didnt do in class, so lots of homework every night. He is very respectful and cares, if you have questions he helps. He isnt a hard grader and wants you to enjoy the class. I would defiantly take his class again.
Bazua is a nice Professor. He gives points for attending class and he lectures for the ENTIRE period. Sometimes he would even start before class. he assigns hw almost everyday and his lectures tend to be boring in my opinion. No doubt that he knows his stuff. Tests and quizzes are done at home. Easy grader, do all the work youll get an A
hes knowledgeable but his class was boring to me. assignments due almost everyday & can be time consuming. tests &quizzes were take home. he would give alot of feed back on them. usually gives full credit for turning it in & doing the full assignment. he also has an obsession w/ mountaineering that he connects to the class. wasnt my favorite class
Really opened my eyes up to noticing things I hadn't previously considered, would for sure take again.
His class is SUPER BORING! Dr. Bazua talks the whole lecture and he is repetitive. didn't learn much in this class. Did get an A, two assignments per week on canvas and attendance is mandatory. I miss class 3 times the whole semester and my attendance grade dropped to a 90%.
Professor Bazua has been my favorite my entire time at DVC. Yes, hes disorganized but hes incredibly passionate about his job. You can tell he loves anthropology and he knows the subject. To enjoy his class you must really love the subject. Otherwise youll fall asleep because he lectures super heavy. Exams/assign. arent hard.
Dr. Bazua is a great teacher and one of the best I had in a long time. Took this anthropology class online this semester and he was super helpful the whole time. The work load was heavy because it was a summer class, but he tried to lift it as much as he could. Very knowledgeable and approachable; he wants nothing but the best for his students.
Excellent teacher. Very passionate and professional. There was a lot of work, but it was all thought-provoking and well-planned. Please take his course(s) if you care about the subject matter and are ready to put in the work without falling behind. Well worth it.
Professor Bazua is extremely knowledgeable on anthropology. This summer course had a heavy workload but was doable. The content of the work was not difficult and he is an easy grader, which is a plus. Would recommend!
Made the online experience so easy and was super helpful and gracious.
This class gives lots of work, however as long as you turn something in it's practically always marked as an A. Lectures are confusing so I just stopped listening to them and only used my textbook to study. Professor Bazua was very understanding of Covid and the circumstances students faced and with a good excuse, allowed late work.
He was such a great teacher. I only had him for a week before dropping it as I changed my major, but in that week, his class was quite easy. He clearly has a passion for anthropology and knows what he is talking about. Lectures were easy to understand and assignments weren't difficult. Quizzes were easy and you can use the book and notes
To earn an A, you have to do all the assignments. He is kind to give a full score but you have to complete all the assignments beforehand.
Easy A! He makes class so interesting! Understanding and caring for his students. He provides an online E-Text book to help students from purchasing book. Final is Essay Questions off a book you read, vocab quizzes! and film notes. TAKE HIM! YOU will not regret it ! Took this class Spring 2021 Online. HES A GREAT TEACHER AND DESERVES A RAISE!!!
This 3 unit 6 week summer class is ridiculously requiring a lot of work per week. A summer Hist class you read a chapter or two and some articles n finish 2-3 assignments per week. You do 4-5 assignments per day including watching 2 hours films, lectures, reading chapters, articles, quizzes, test, discussion, essays. Didn't want to miss up his ratg
I took this class for extra credits. It was an easy A but be aware there is loads amount of work! Do the work and you'll most likely get full credit for it. He's very passionate about anthropology and loves to talk. This was a synchronous class for me so I'm not sure what it looks like in person.
The 3 unit class during summer is a disaster of pain. This GE class was completely overloaded with homework as if you are taking a Chem 121 during the summer. He obviously doesn't skip any module being taught in a regular 17 week semester but during summer it is narrowed down to only 6 weeks with all the materials!!! Avoid this class for GE credit!
Bazua is a damn good professor. His class is a decent amount of work. But, he has done tons of anthropological work himself and even made documentaries. He is somewhat lax on lateness if you show commitment. He is a damn good professor, and I've gained inspiration in many more ways than I thought I ever would taking this class. It is a lot though.
Easiest class I have ever taken, the entire thing is on quizlet + course hero. Super nice professor and very helpful especially when students need extra help. He also let us submit late work which was really nice. Prof Bazua clearly cares more about the material than the grade. Take this class, you will not regret it. 10000% would take it again.
I enjoy this course. He is understanding, helpful, and cares about the student being successful. He always give great feedback on every assignment. He answers emails with clarity. He gives the student all the time they need to understand an assignment. A little hard to understand his accent at first, but after a couple of lectures it is fine.
It's very obvious that Professor Bazua genuinely cared about the material he was teaching. He was very passionate about the subject which made it easier to understand. There is a lot of course work though such as documentaries and readings.
This professor is awesome! I would 100% take another course from him.
I had an extremely tough semester outside of school and was struggling with the workload (sidenote, if you do keep up with the workload it will be very easy and enjoyable to pass this class). Prof. Bazua was so understanding and genuinely wanted to help me pass the class and i can tell how much he cares about anthropology and teaching it to people.
I owe him my grade in this class. He is one of, if not the most understanding professor I have ever had. As long as you communicate your situation to him, he will happily accommodate for you and appreciates a persons effort. His class was very fast paced in the summer, so I wouldn't recommend taking more than two classes for the summer term.
Dr. Bazua is truly an amazing professor; he was so accommodating and understanding. There is a lot of course work, but it is all extremely interesting. He is very responsive to emails and comments on every assignment. He is very clearly passionate about what he teaches and wants to help his students do well.
Mr. Bazua is a really good teacher. His class was super easy and enjoyable. Down the stretch was the real hard part because of the assignments began to cluster. He is very considerate and very lineate on late work. If you need help ask him. For the movies and the book, you're going to read make sure you actually do this.
I really enjoyed this prof. There was A LOT of work to get done in 6 weeks, but he was incredibly accommodating and was an extremely lenient grader. I appreciated his in depth feedback to all assignments & I could tell that he was very passionate about his work. If you are busy or are taking multiple summer classes- this may be a bit overwhelming
I took both archeology and cultural anthro with Dr Bazua. He's very passionate about what he teaches and it shows. He's also approachable and accommodating. I learned a lot and really enjoyed both classes, especially archeology. I highly reccomend his classes!!
I took this in Summer 2021. This class was the best class I've ever taken before or since. Despite being during the worst of the pandemic, I found the asynchronous lectures very engaging and I feel like my world-view is permanently enriched from the lectures and readings. Prof. Bazua integrates some of his own experiences too. It was very inspiring
LOTS AND LOTS of homework. But try your best, and you get an A. He is also very caring and kind to all his students.
He is very knowledgeable and fun
Professor Bazua is such kind human being and very knowledgeable. His classes are fun. He's very understanding. There's no due dates for almost anything, which makes this class almost stress free. However, he gives LOTS of homework/reading. A LOT!! I learned a lot though.
Lots of work in this class, short writing assignments, discussions, movies, lecture vids. But the material is interesting, and Prof Bazua is super knowledgeable. Optional zoom sessions for office hours. Grading is generous, tons of extra credit for good work. Heavily encourages working in groups, so find a few people to divide homework with!!
He's a good professor. Nice, passionate and includes any students in discussions. Issue though is despite how good he is at teaching the vast majority of the work and content is online, almost a part-online class with how much is there. Also sometimes has very long tangential discussions, some of which caused classes to cover little to no material.
Enthusiastic prof but the amount of work he gives is insane. Gives assignments at minimum 3 times a week, sometimes wants hours on single assignments and he'll have multiple due on one day at times. Also class is meaningless 1/3 the time as he's too busy going on about politics. Thought it would be interesting but we barely learn much in class.
Very interesting class, he is very accommodating , but he do give out a lot of homework so yea please take him and you will not regret this.
great professor would recommend. Just gives a lot of homework so just be aware of that and it is worth it though because it is interesting and also he talks ABOUT POLITICAL issues
Professor Bazua is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is caring about your growth and your grade. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches. He is easy to get ahold of. The class is an easy grade and you will learn tons.
Professor Bazua has been my favorite professor to date. He genuinely cares about his students and sharing his passion. He made me rethink my major and changed my life because of it. He gives a ton of zoom meetings to help make sure youre on top of it all! DO TAKE Prof. Bazua for any class he teaches!!! You will only fall in love with his class!
Bazua was the most interesting class and instructor ever. He has a no-stress policy and its true. He's extremely lenient and understanding. He is genuinely there to teach and support you. If you want an easy A, I cannot recommend him enough.
Professor Bazua is one of the most kind, caring and understanding professors I, or anyone, could ever have. His lectures are taught very well, and he'll take a lot of time to make sure everyone understands. He's also very accommodating to student's situations and will help and and make sure you pass the class. Definitely recommend.
very interesting class and he's a very cool guy. gives a lot of work but you get a lot of time to finish and he doesn't get on you if your writing isn't perfect. it says a lot I thought the students are far worse than the professor and I would complain about those guys but it's not the professors fault. really good class and you should try it too
Dr. Bazua is an amazing professor! I took his 3-week, asynchronous course. There was a decent amount of homework, on average 2-3 assignments each day, but you can complete them at your own pace & ask for extensions. Overall, he's very understanding & I enjoyed his class.
A lot of work, but if you do most of it and try a little bit, you're be sure to pass with an A. Professor Bazua is also incredibly nice especially if you do things such as attend his office hours, and very lenient with late work.
Dr Bazua is a passionate educator. I took his anthropology class this summer and I definitely had a new perspective on the world and our thought process. We had a lot of assignments which wear easy to complete. We also had quizzes and flashcards to aid our study. He is a great professor.
While he's lenient on due dates, there's a lot of homework that piles up throughout the week. He'll extend due dates, but it's still just a lot of work overall. Not to mention that lectures are chaotic and highly unorganized, making it difficult to actually understand material. Homework has little to do with in class lectures. Not very enriching.
He clearly knows his subjects well, he gives quite a bit of feedback, he's quick to respond if you have any issues, and if you put in slightly more effort than the minimum he'll give extra credit on assignments. There are a lot of assignments but as long as you don't care too much about getting a 100% you can miss a couple and still easily pass.
please TAKE THIS CLASS! It is so great. He is so passionate about archaeology, and it shows. Makes material so fun and always gives extra credit if you do the assignments right. Group work is fun and interactive for an online class, and overall this class is such a breeze and the assignments are never dreadful at all.
He is super nice, emphasizes a no stress class, lets you turn in work late, and is an easy grader. Get ready to read A LOT. Some homework is based on lectures and he tends to fall behind on it, so homework piles up. Each week you will have a least 4 homework's. Only take the class if you are super passionate as it's very easy to get burnt out.
This class was so fun! It's a ton of work, but if you enjoy the subject, it's all super interesting. I worried about finishing all my assignments because I wanted to learn everything, but I got a good grade even though I couldn't complete them all. He gives extra credit if you show up to class. This class changed how I look at the world!
An amazing professor and very inspiring.
Very passionate about his work, emphasizes a "No-Stress" class. Communication is valued. I learned a lot in this class both from online and in person. It is a lot of reading, but honestly the assignments are pretty easy, and workload isn't that heavy as long as you stay on top of it. He keeps the educational space inviting. I super recommend!
Amazing professor! Literally the best one I have ever had. Classes are very lecture heavy, but he is passionate about the subject matter and you will learn so much from him. There is a lot of reading and a few assignments due each week, but he is very laid back and you can request more time to complete them if you need to. 10/10 Would take again!
Professor Bazua is the kindest professor I have ever taken. While there is a large amount of work he is extremely lenient on due dates. Gives great feedback and always gives extra credit. I was going through a family crisis and he still gave me credit on assignments to motivate me to keep going.Great person overall, definitely recommend taking him!
Professor Bazua is such an amazing teacher. He is very passionate of what he teaches and that made lectures really enjoyable for me. His assignments aren't too bad and he's very lenient with due dates. If you have any questions about anything, make sure to ask him because he will always be there to help and support you. Make sure to take his class!
This professor is amazing and is truly passionate. He will make sure you learn! It is lecture heavy though so be prepared. I also had him for ANTHR-141 lab. I was going through a really tough time while taking his class and he understood my situation. I owe my grade to him because he taught me to push myself even when I believed I couldn't.
He is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor was harsh
