He's a nice guy.
Great class even if you have to do logic. He's really into teaching the class and cares about students. He will work with you outside of class. He even gives out his phone number.
His class was very easy and an overall enjoyable experience. He bases midterm and final off of lectures so it's really important to attend class. He also gives certain extra credit to those that attend often. The class was very interesting and I really learned a lot. He's very helpful, he's available before and after class and also gives out his #
Carlos was a pretty chill and fun teacher to have, i highly recommend you take one of his classes. Midterms and finals were entirely based on the notes from in class and from the book. So it's best advised to attend every class meeting on time! He's pretty cute too.
Carlos is a cool guy, but he was too opinionated for my taste. The class was not difficult, but you're going to have to read.
You read a lot. Has some essays very strict on class behavior. I thought he was cool just grades hard some times.
Show up, talk to Carlos about what ur confused about and literally just follow instructions & you will pass with an A+. Offers a ridiculous amount of extra credit and u can very easily get over 100%. People in his class fail because theyre too lazy to do basic instructions and see him when something isnt clear. Easiest class Ive ever taken EVER
He is an amazing professor that has a clear grading criteria, whose lectures are amazing and he relates the topic that we are going over to our daily lives
I just finished two classes with Carlos. He's my favorite professor at santa ana. I can't believe that he read all five drafts of my paper and still gave me an A- on it. But I know I can write better paper now. I'm taking him again for history next semesetr.
Very odd experience. Some people thought it was the easiest class ever. Other people thought it was harder than their math classes. I was in the middle. Pretty hard when it came to the papers and the final but everything else was pretty smooth.
Professor Brocatto was a chill dude. He cares about his students and really wants them to succeed, but he is not one to take advantage of. He can snap on students for not getting their crap done. As long as you show up to every class and do all the homework and turn everything in on time you can get an easy A.
Honestly Carlos could be a chill guy but he sucks at the way he lectures. He expects students to be at their best. I would NEVER take again. I dont know if he had a bad semester but he made me HATE philosophy
Honestly I really enjoyed this class. To pass you just need to do the work assigned, which it is just a few assignments. He tells us almost exactly what is going to be on the test, and he helps us with our term paper. Carlos even provides extra credit for people that are failing, so if a student fails this class they absolutely cannot blame Carlos.
I know who I am now because of this guy. Or as he would put it, I know what I've planned for myself and have some good ideas about how to go about my plans. It's more than just a class. Don't take him if you just want to get a grade. Take him if you want to be a better human.
He's an easy A if you read. If you read and can talk about the reading he gets really interested in you. The tests are basically from lectures. The essays are easy if you go to office hours. He's really hard on people who don't read and will quiz everyone. Even I failed one of those good thing it was not to many points lost.
He is terribly strict and assigns WAY too much work for an online class. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE BUSY. This class was very hard for a community college course and it was the most I have struggled at Santa Ana College. Just a warning!!!
He's a great teacher. He cares about all of his students. Don't take this class if you don't want to read. I did really bad on the midterm and I was going to drop, but I talked to him and he gave me some extra credit. This class was just as hard as my Math class.
This professor is legit in person and his classes are awesome but for the sake of this rating being an online course. This course he assigned way to much hw. The announcements he made were unclear. He claimed majority of his online students dropped the course because of the work load. There is ton of reading. Discussion post require 500 words week
Be prepared to read, but if you don't procrastinate it is doable. Go to his office hours and read and reread his lecture slides. He offers a lot of extra credit but the extra credit is time consuming. He makes you work for the grade you receive which is how it should be. He gives clear direction on review for exams, due dates were confusing.
Great professor but assigns way too much reading. He expects everyone to read above other readings he's already assigned and each reading has to have reading notes. Don't miss class because his mid-term / exams will mostly be based on his lectures. You'll have a love/ hate relationship with this class. But if you like philosophy this class is for u
This guy is great! He is odd and seems to really not like himself and makes everyone not like themsel ves either. You kind of have to take the class to see what I mean. i think I somehow like myself more now that that i dislike myself lol. If you need another class take it with Carlos.
He's a great teacher. If you wanted to get an A, prepare to work your butts off. The pressure was real but I enjoy seeing my effort paid off. Do not slack off or the bridge will fall.
This class was the most disappointing class. He assigns way too many readings and assignments. I think the worst thing about taking this class is grading scale. The whole class is worth 100 points making extremely hard to succeed in this class. He made a term paper worth 20 points and wanted it to be six pages long!
This was the third online class I took with him. This one is the hardest but I liked the movies and I liked the topics. I like his online classes cause he basically just lets you do the work and checks up on you and gives extra credit.
The class was pretty easy. He also gives you extra credit if you attempt all the work. The midterm and final are a little hard but the extra credit takes care of that.
he is a very kind, caring professor and really wants all his students to be a success in his class and outside of class he is strict and really makes you work for your grade. but he's fair and reasonable I would suggest you do take a class with him. you really learn a lot he's a really great professor and their no professor like him that cares.
Overall the class wasn't and I would like to note this is a summer class, but he gives no feedback on his grading. Which if you understand the philosophy goes against the learning process. You can't just give a grade, and expect your students to improve, you must point out their errors and show them a better way do things.
I'm one of those that thinks I can skip all the time and still get an A. Boy did Carlos prove me wrong, really had to work for it. Since philosophy is a interpretation game, as long as you show that you're trying to understand and putting in effort in your writing you should be fine. Lectures are great, only class I've liked going to since COVID
It was a good cass. I got to know other students and that has been pretty rare lately. I am not taking him this semester but wish I was.
Horrible to much reading
Absolute terrible teaching throughout the online course. I did not learn anything after the completion of this course. Beware if he says that class will be let out early, DO NOT BELIEVE HIM! His lectures are an average of two and a half hours and for the most part always goes off topic and does not apply to the homework. Always goes over class time
Lots of extra credit. He says no late work but was okay with it except for one time. If you ask for help with the essay you will get an A. Easy quizzes but the discussions are long and boring. Tests are easy.
Do NOT take this professor if you're on a tight schedule. He assigns multiple quizes and discussions a week and is extremely mentally draining. When wanting feedback he gives the most broad awnser possible which does not really help. Only take him if he is the only option left.
Do NOT take this teacher. Unless this is the only option left I suggest you take another teacher because this teacher is just confusing and unclear with instructions. He gives a lot of discussion boards and most of the time 2 or even 3 per week. Does not accept late work except for the first time. And has boring quizzes. Its tiring as all can be.
Made a boring subject fun. Lots of reading tho. Helped me with my paper n I Ended up with n A!
The class was hard but then got easy. Extra credit.
Carlos is the nicest professor I've ever had. He's always available to meet for office hours. He has writing workshops that are also super helpful. I would definitely take his class. My friend and I are taking a class with him in the fall.
Easiest class I've ever taken. Turn your busy work in and you WILL pass.
I recommend not taking this class during the summer. For each module you do a discussion board (range from 2501,000 words.) You read 1-3 chapters and take a quiz per module; You complete 2-3 modules per week. READ THE SYLLABUS! He gives lots of extra credit but if you dont attempt/miss an assignment you wont be eligible for extra credit.
Took him this summer, good professor and kept class interesting.
Carlos is good guy and really tries to explain the material. I wish I had taken the class in the fall or spring and not the summer.
Lots of reading but the lectures are interesting. Uses memes in the PowerPoint. He tries to keep it interesting.
I was going through a really rough time this summer. My mom died of Covid back in January. I stopped going to classes and I was completely lost. This is the first class I took since coming back and it was eye opening. He's changed my opinions on education and I've decided to become a philosophy major. This class changed my life.
Carlos is a pretty good teacher. If you read what is recommended and listen to the lecture you will pass.
He grades on a 100 point scale Get ready to have your ideals and morals challenged Plenty of extra credit
Carlos is cool. We talk about comics a lot. Gave me extra credit when I was failing. Good guy
The quizzes were tricky but he explains stuff if you ask. I emailed him many times and thought I was being annoying but he did not seem annoyed at all. He responds fast to emails. Lots of work for online but I actually learned stuff.
Easily the best teacher Ive ever had!
Although our philosophies on life differed greatly, I can still recognize a great professor. He has a set standard and he definitely upholds it. If you don't want to read then don't take the class. I would definitely take his class again. Just be aware, he will have you discuss some philosophical issues that are dicey in today's political climate.
Actually got something out of it.
Carlos is an awesome professor who cares about his students. He offers extra credit and while discussion boards are long, you learn from them and they really get you thinking about the material. Lectures are GREAT, Carlos has a way of teaching that really grasps your interest and find it relatable to your life. I would definitely take him again!
I just took intersession with him. There was so much reading! he said it is a condensed sixteen week course. I was always working on the class and thought I was barely passing. I got an A!
His energy was to high for the morning but it kept me awake and I got a good grade ; )
Was unclear on terms of the term paper. Ridiculous amount of homework for a non-philosophy major.
Took his Philosophy 110 class and really enjoyed it. The discussions involved a lot of reading but his instructions are always clear.
I felt guilty cause i didnr understand the work and he spent office hours helping me a lot. He was so nice and always talk with me. he read my paper over and over and finally got good grade.
Hard. Real hard. Get ready to read and write a ton. But if you are willing to put in the work, this class will definitely leave something in you. One of the coolest professors that I have ever taken. Honest and passionate educator, you will learn a lot from him. If you just want to pass, I don't think this class will be for you.
I dropped critical thought online and retook it two weeks later. It was a totally different class. I asked why it is so easy this time and he said he likes to changes things up. I feel sorry for people who taken him before!
This was probably the hardest class I have taken. If you have other classes to worry about and have a job, do not take. He expects you to complete 2-3 module per week that include multiple discussions that you have to do extra reading for on top of your 2-3 chapters of reading for the week & turn in lengthy discussions.
Had high hopes for this summer class. There were four discussion boards and quizzes required every single week. While this might not seem like a lot, they all required immense reading. The quizzes were difficult and my writing was never good enough. I tried reaching out to him and he was always harsh. I had never felt so defeated in a class.
Took online summer class. Only one module per week and a module for an exam and essay. Basic. Four quizzes a essay five pages and the final. The quizzes are easy the paper and test is hard. He let me rewrite the essay and do extra credit to get an A.
Super pretentious for a 100 level course. Unforgiving with late work. If you reach out to him with a question he will find a way to blame you for his mistake. The due dates on the Canvas assignments aren't accurate, so you have to read the syllabus very thoroughly to know when things are actually due. Overall horrible professor.
Took the religions of the world. Just do the reading and respond on time and it's an easy A. Took philosophy last semester. It had more things like quiz but it was a easy class. No late work but easy grader and extra credit.
I took World Religion. Only communicated with email. No meetings. The reading is easy but a little overwhelming at times. He pays attention to the posts so you have to talk about the reading every time you write anything. Do not skip on assignments and you qualify for easy extra credit.
TAKE ONLY IF HE IS THE LAST OPTION. Super harsh when you reach out to him, unclear on paper and assignment terms, unreasonable grader, unreasonable amount of work, and made me hate a subject I thought I had a passion for. He randomly sent a message saying a term paper was due ON THANKSGIVING despite it showing that no where on the course syllabus.
I'm surprised most people had this class with a 5 star rating. It kinda makes me frightened to think that a Professor who grades really heavy, and has a hard time communicating would make for a 5 star. If this really was 5 star to you guys, I really wonder how other teachers are like. To put shortly, bad communication, heavy reading.
Lots of extra credit. Lots of talking in class. Too much reading and writing.
Super harsh grading for a 100 course. He finds EVERY excuse to take points of assignments and discussions, and his instructions for the assignments are unclear. He does not teach you anything, lessons are all on vague, unclear powerpoints. Taking this course made me dislike everything about phil.
Just one exam and essay. No attendances. Introduction is easy. Four discussions and quiz. Just regular class.
Last week is extra credit and essaysEnded. Lass with 125 points! He was nice to give my extension when my mother sick.
The class is not easy at first but all the extra credit adds up so you hardly have to do anything at the end. The videos are long and boring sometimes. He comments on outlines and zooms by appointment and that helps with the paper. He said come on here if I had something nice to say. Good class with funny memes. I wish I took him in person.
Professor is super harsh when it comes to grading, I don't recommend him for a 8 week course class. He expects you to write 900+ word essays worth 5 points. His modules are unclear on what to follow. Stay away unless he is your only option.
This teacher is a TOUGH grader and is very strict on his way of doing things. If you don't do things just right, you won't get a good grade. I don't suggest taking him for an accelerated class as there are a small number of assignments which can seriously mar your grade if you mess up one thing. I would not suggest him for any accelerated class.
Just finished the class last week. I was so upset with Dr. Bocato because he so hard. But he didn't say we could retake all the quizzes and could do all the extra credit until the final week. It worked for my schedule.
I tried to take this class as an 8-week course. I have a full-time job right now in the medical field and felt like taking this course would be helpfull. I was very prepared and set on reading a lot for this course as I already expected it to be that way. My 2nd quiz I failed after I SPENT DAYS STUDYING AND READING CLOSELY. Didnt match the quiz.
He replies quite quickly but there is a quiz and discussion due every Friday night. The discussions are 500+ words each after reading 2-4 hour worth of material along with a required 300+ words reply. The class started with 81 students and ended with 15. Extra credit is worth alot but the workload is simply insane for a prerequisite class.
Is extremely strict with his rubric but he assigns random grades towards the end of the semester. Some of the assignments that I spent the least effort on got the highest grade while some of the assignments I spent more effort on got terrible grades. He grades 5-10 days late. Use Chatgpt in the class to get a summary on different philos ophers/phys
I got a A!
Took him for an 8 week course for Phil 106. Ended up getting over a 100% but I can't lie in saying that I worked my ass off. I had 5 other classes yet this course took up probably 50% of my time in school so just be prepared if you are going to take it. Lot's of Extra credit so if you are a heard worker you should be fine.
It was not easy. But the class was exactly as described. Use the syllabus calendar to set up your workand you will be fine. use word find in lecture videos and modules for quiz answers.
I just looked at the assignments and kept up with the pace. The class is over now and my Canvas grade was a B but I got an A. I finished with over 100% because of the extra credit. Not much reading just videos and writing.
I was working at my owe speed. The assignments were writing and quiz testing. The quiz tests were hard but the extra credit was easy.
This class was not easy. I had no free time for a month! I did well but had to work on something every day!
Prof Brocatto provides opportunity for extra credit but that is about as far as it goes for the pros of this class. He has a small grading scale so minor erros such as particular citing requirements will quickly plummet your grade. He is overly particular even with discussion board posts which are unnecessarily long.
I learned a lot. Lots of writing. You have to cite everything. Dr. Carlos met with two of us every week. It was a good class. I wish I had taken him in person.
He met with me and answered all my questions. He was so funny and nice! I had to drop and will take him in person this fall.
Do not take this class in 1 month or else you won't have a life. His grading is weird. It's not based on percentage, it's based on points, so its not that difficult to get an A, but it's VERY TIME CONSUMING. There is so much reading and watching lectures. This is literally an intro class, so idk why the workload is so much. DO NOT TAKE IT TRUST ME
Good readings early and at the end of the class. Extra credit is posted and due at the end. Descartes and Humes are boring but the videos are okay. Easy A.
The class was fast.
I took an accelerated class. he is a tough grader on all of the assingments. there is a lot of extra credit assignments that will boost your grade by two/three letter grades. The tests are hard and the workload is insane due to all of the reading. every assingment takes around 1-2 hours. He was availble for a zoom meeting when I needed it tho.
This class was difficult. I emailed Carlos about the amount of work and we zoomed and his excuse was that it was a 4 week course. I have other classes that are the same time but not as much work. He gave me a extension on my essay and made me revise it. I never thought I got a B but I did. he is a good teacher.
Professor Brocatto is a great professor. He is a tough grader, but he offers a lot of extra credit. Make sure to cite your work and keep up with the reading. You should be fine!
I should've chosen peace.
PHIL112 World Religions. Discussion board due bi-weekly and are based on either the required readings or documentaries (1-2hrs). The midterm, final, and associated discussion boards are collectively worth 60% of your overall grade. Module reading list does not reflect the readings listed on the syllabus. Modules are locked so you can't work ahead.
Carlos helped me pass this class in time for the fall. I just got it approved!
4 quizzes 6 discussions 2 exams. Quizzes are easy discussions are hard cause he wants you to follow every single little thing. Exams are mid. Lots of extra credit. I was failing but passed cause of all the extra credit. I think easy a if not a summer course.
It was a joke. Only one exam and one essay. One time consuming homework. I thought it was going to be hard.
Just copy and paste his notes and add pages to.
He won't say you how you doing unless you zoom. He just says look at your score. I was scared but he gave me a good grade.
Assignments were super unclear, and instructions were vague. The professor didn't explain things well and gave very harsh grades. Feedback was minimal and not helpful, making it hard to improve. Overall, the class felt confusing and discouraging — not a great experience.
This course was hard because the assignments were confusing and unclear. I worked hard on that last essay assignment, even got help from a tutor, but still failed, which was very discouraging after putting in so much effort. The essay did not state clear expectations, and didn't hesitate to give harsh grading submission comment feedback lol.
if you're going to take this class with him, do it in person. He literally gives u answers for the exams beforehand so yk what to remember/study and you can use notes/cheat sheet. I finished the class with over 100% bc there's extra credit. he's super funny but don't be annoying in lecture bc he will call you out
Easy A just talk to him or go to office and he will look at work and give good advice then do extra credit to get an A. It's a week before final exam and I already have an A because extra credit.
Took this class last fall and I loved it. Professor is very passionate about the topic so it's easy to understand. Work load wasn't too bad. Pay attention to lecture, read/watch the material and you'll be fine. Go to office hours if needed, he always advertised it.
If you guys dont like reading, then this professor is NOT for you. Every quiz and discussion consists of insane amounts of reading in order for you to answer it. Every week, you are expected to read a minimum of 2 articles (max probably 4). I'm telling you, each article is either a 20-pages pdf file or a 1hour video and you HAVE TO cite it.
