Professor Contreras is one of the most fair graders I've ever encountered, but don't expect an easy A. The class can seem a bit overwhelming at first (I took the 8 week class so it was condensed) and I almost dropped, but eventually it was very fulfilling and it's one of the few history classes I've taken where i actually learned something.

Although he was a nice person he was not a good professor. The amount of reading he assigned was completely unmanageable. He gave multiple handouts every day with little explanation of their relevance. His class, syllabus, and Canvas page are extremely unorganized. His lectures don't have much structure, would not recommend this class.

He's super nice and is super passionate about the subject, but his class is very disorganized. Stuff he plans is never finished on time. He talks a lot, and its really hard to gather what I actually need to know. He assigned short essays, but never graded the previous ones in time for me to make corrections for any of them. Would not take again.

This class is a lot of work, but using unstuck ai alongside the course materials can help manage the workload. The professor is passionate, but the grading and assignments are challenging. Overall, it's a rewarding course for history buffs willing to put in the time.

He offered a great insight to the horrors of the past of the Americas but there are so many things to read and the tests are pretty hard. He has you watch videos at home and in class and if you don't read the homework, you cannot participate in the activities. He is a kind soul, with a quiet voice so it towards the front.

TBH my fav Prof/class I've taken. He's very passionate about what he's teaching and wants to interact with students. Don't be afraid to ask for help! If reading isn't your thing, the class might be hard. But honestly get a screen reader for the pdf articles on canvas + an audio book of the textbook, that helped me a lot. Otherwise not much homework

This professor is very unclear about what you need to be doing in his class. Dates are very unclear. He is very hard to follow during lectures. And he takes many weeks to grade important assignments and exams.

Professor Contreras is very kind and passionate. However I would not recommend taking his class. He showed up late every class and relied heavily on videos to teach us the content. We didn't have many assignments so our grades were determined by the midterm and final. He did not grade the midterm until the week of the final.

Second time taking him and it was a good class. Reading is very important but dont stress as long as you watch clips you are fine. He is very helpful but can be all over the place with grading. Takes a while to grade simple assignments but provides extra credit on exam and on the side. Great professor!

Carlos is so passionate and knowledgeable about history. His class taught me so much that was never covered in HS for me. Really amazing lectures and group conversations if you participate. You can tell he has some public speaking anxiety so be patient as he pauses for deep breaths sometimes. Sit up front because he speaks very softly!

Super super nice guy and he's so passionate about history, but it's VERY lecture heavy. If you don't like history, I do not recommend taking this class in person because it's hard to stay on top of stuff you're not interested in.
