Tough cource, lots of material. Plan to do your work and you'll get by. Possibly be familiar with magnetics and electorstatics prior. Study hard. Pay attention to his lectures, he will guide you well.
Carlos is a wonderful teacher. He really wants everyone to know the material presented. He is very attentive and pays attention to each student on an individual level. I would give him a thumbs up!
Carlos is an amazing lecturer and professor; he is both entertaining and informative. If you keep up with the workload you will learn a lot in his class. He is always willing to help his students do well in and out of the classroom... a super nice guy!
Tough teacher, but lots of fun. His Ciruits class got me prepared for the difficulty of upper-division courses. Higly recommended! -Michael Lipton
He's a good teacher. He tries to explain concepts clearly and has a good sense of humor in his lectures.
The least helpful teacher ever........Take this class if you like going to school and reading books.
Really awesome lecturer/teach. Knows when the class is saturated and reads Darwin Awards. Exams and quizes are tough but he allows you to learn from your mistakes and turn around in the end. Beware he also doesn't rush the final (unlimited time limit = extremely hard exams). Stay alert in class.
If you've had physics in high school (or ever) you'll find this class to be super easy. Carlos is a very good teacher. He made it clear what was expected of his students and he's very organized. All exams are very straight forward with no surprises.
This professor helped me get interested in circuits class and now I have been able to transfer and I'm majoring in EE @ Cal State U, Long Beach. Also this professor is really good to get you interested and motivated in physics if you are not.
Tests and quizzes are very hard, but Carlos sincerely wants you to succeed. Great guy and very approachable. Will make himself available to help you outside of class. Strong, secure personality with good control and respect from the class while still creating an informal, comfortable learning environ. Comes well prepared for clear lectures.
This class was one of the most difficult classes ever taken. The homework assignments are nothing compared to the problems given out by Carlos on examples, quizzes, and tests, but he truly does try to help the students as much as possible to understand the concepts.

Nice guy, kinduva softee. not a fruit but real boring and soft spoken. Claims he's a theoretical Physicist.

BORING!!! Doesn't know what he's saying or doing. Is usually apologizing for his constant mistakes. Spits whenever he gets excited and tlaks loudly.
His class and lab were very easy. The homework was easy, the tests were easy, the quizzes were easy. It is just easy. I recommend His class for anyone who wants to take a physics class, but really has no interest in physics. He makes it easy, and interesting.
Carlos is an all-around good teacher. He speaks very clearly, is always prepared for his lectures, and is always willing to answer our inquisitive questions. His passion for the subject translates into a very effective, humorous teaching style. The demonstrations he provides just make the class that much better. I would recommend him to anyone.
Carlos is a really good physics teacher. He is very enthusiastic about his subject. He gives very thorough notes. Copy his notes and you won?t have to read the textbook. Gives a lot of quizzes but only tests on what he lectures. Straight forward exams with no surprises. Got an A in the class.
Carlos's passion for physics is infectious! He brings the subject alive and makes it relevant. His lectures are enjoyable and comprehensive. He goes the extra mile for his students, even providing help outside the classroom. He even worked to get me an internship and a scholarship!
Carlos is a great teacher, he kept me entertained in a subject that i had no interest in, very approachable and he is clear on what he expects! Take him if you need physics, he's great!
Carlos is one the best teachers at Cabrillo, he is extremely helpful and very nice. In Phys 4B and Engr 15 (Circuits), he will "kick your a*!," but he is always willing to help you understand concepts outside of class and office hours. I really can't say enough good things about Carlos, he is truly a great asset to Cabrillo.
Great teacher and a very down to earth person! He wants you to understand the concept more than the math,so he'll try to give good explanations. TESTS: tricky but not bad. LECTURES: Fun, interesting, kinda fast paced. APPROACHABILITY: extremely busy this year, so not very approachable. idk about other years. In a sentence, VERY GOOD TEACHER!
Lectures could seem a bit overly complicated, but they were engaging, and Carlos had some pretty cool demos. As a teacher, he's helpful as well as passionate when it comes to physics. Some of his tests/quizzes could be a little tricky- the class was definitely no cake walk. Overall, Carlos is a bad ass, you should try to take one of his classes.
Great professor and class! Carlos is a fantastic teacher. He helps you understand the concepts involved in a fun and interesting way, while making you you get the general idea. I would definitely recommend him if you have even the slightest desire to understand how the world works. Book use is minimal if you understand the concepts well enough.
Carlos is by far the best teacher i have ever had at Cabrillo. I wasn't exciting going into the class and came out loving physics. He is very friendly and helpful, he wants his students to succeed and will take time to help each person individually. Material can be challenging but interesting. I would definitely recommend his class :)
Amazing teacher! Has to cover a lot of material in one semester. Up to you to keep with it! Regular lectures covering theory with examples, quizzes, exams, homeworks, laboratories, and building circuits keeps you busy. Will learn a ton and apply Linear Algebra and Differential Calculus in this class!
RECOMMENDED! Carlos' enthusiasm for physics made me always look forward to going to the class. His examples are often anecdotes, and he is captivating and funny. You won't sit there and wait for the time to pass, trust me. My favorite class at Cabrillo, so far!
One of the best teachers at cabrillo. Instructors like Carlos are why cabrillo has such a great reputation.
Carlos is the man! His lectures are intense, much deeper and more helpful than Marcus and Joe's. All you have to do is compare Carlos' course material to these other two and you will quickly realize that you will not only learn it better but at a much deeper level. And the class was still almost full at the end of the semester.
Carlos is the most challenging and consequently the most rewarding professor I have ever encountered. Take any class he offers! Your brain will go in a feeble child and emerge a hulking brute.
Carlos “demands” that you physically understand on a much deeper level in 4C than in Joe’s 4A. He’s pushed me to a level that I feel like I can handle anything. Read previous comment: “most challenging and consequently the most rewarding professor I have ever encountered.” If you really want to understand course material well, take Carlos.
Carlos is a bad ass! He is the most engaging professor I've had. His knowledge, and passion for the subject are unmatched at Cabrillo. TAKE HIS CLASS! You'll be better for it.
Hands down the BEST instructor at Cabrillo, not a lot of homework, about 6 questions at the end of every chapter. Quizes are easy, and he is SUPER helpful and smart! He makes lectures fun and interesting. GREAT PROFESSOR! GREAT GUY!
I am only starting to realize how much I've learned in 4C after taking his class. The people around me think that I'm a genius because I am able to answer some of Carlos' conceptual questions. If you want to learn physics really well, take Carlos.
Amazing professor. Class was really challenging but in the best kind of way. Great personality makes you enjoy class and lecture. Be prepared to make the time commitment and you will be appropriately rewarded. All around great professor that will leave an impression on you.
Why can't he teach all physics courses at Cabrillo?! He is the BEST teacher I have EVER had! He keeps us engaged and makes classes interesting! He is the reason I now switched major and am considering Physics! Cabrillo could not have hired a better professor than Carlos! Little homework and easy tests as long as you review notes and do Homework!
Most understanding, caring, helpful, engaging, and excited autism-spectrum genius I've ever met. My world is bigger and better for having known him and taken his class, but 4B with him is the most challenging class I've ever taken.
He's amazing!!! And them calves though
Awesome instructor, doesn't say crux enough though. All joking aside, Carlos prioritizes conceptual physics, rather than the math, giving you a much deeper level of understanding. This class will change the way you think for the better, due to the insane material, but Carlos is the perfect person to guide you through it.
The best professor I have ever had he Genuinly cares about not only the subject but every student that walks through his door the man comes in on his days off to help you! He makes you work for your grade but he is always there to help and encourage you. It was my first semester here at Cabrillo and i look forward to another semester with Carlos
Carlos is the best teacher I have had in my educational history! Seriously there is no one better to teach Physics 4B or Circuits. He can take the hardest classes at Cabrilo (such as the two previously mentioned) and make them extremely interesting and passable. He doesn't make the subjects any easier, but gives you every resource necessary to pass
The absolute greatest human being I have ever met. The best, most caring instructor I have ever had and he truly wants his students to succeed. He is completely void of ego and gives amazing and interesting lectures. His tests are somewhat hard, but he gives you every resource you need to succeed, I'd say the biggest problem is the time crunch.
He is very helpful and enthusiastic. The class requires much work and your attention. There are Plc, lap report, homework every week. You will feel like there is too much work if you are not major in physics , but if you love physics, he is there for you to help and encourage you.
I feel like I spend 90% of my time for this class. This class is a heavy class, so I have to drop the other class trying to pass this class. Its not a good idea too repeat it cuz it requires too much work. I love Carlos, but I might not take him again because I'm not major in physics.
Only nine homework problems this week? Pfff easy! No, they will take you hours to complete if you do not pay attention during class and ask questions during his office hours. The class is hard, not mathematically, but conceptually. If you can draw the picture for what is happening, you will be fine. "This is not a math class!" - Carlos
Engr 15 is by far the hardest class I've taken. The class requires you to solve large system of equations and hard differential equation circuit problems. However, Carlos posts his lecture notes (well written), explains things extremely well and labs & plcs actually help you instead of making you jump more hoops. The best professor I've ever had.
I would recommend Carlos as a teacher for just about anyone. Very smart and knowledgeable, cares that all his students have a fair chance to secede, accommodating and helpful. Very conceptual class, but if you apply yourself to the homework and ask him questions in office hours when you have trouble, you will do fine on the exams.
The subject of physics is just awesome. If you feel that way about physics, then this class shouldn't be that hard for you to pass. Carlos was not my cup of tea. It was one bad joke or inappropriate remark that urked me. He is passionate about this subject, which makes him a good teacher. The unnecessary tangents are irritating too.
Physics is not an easy subject. It becomes 100x more difficult if instructions are not clear. With Carlos, be prepared to guess what he is actually trying to say. He will explain concepts using different terms that may or not mean the same thing. Questions/examples/solutions are also filled with mistakes making self studying nearly impossible.
Great lectures with the biggest plus was posting of his lecture notes. Carlos way of teaching physics made me want to change majors to physics. He stress physics first with math as a secondary. Quote: never stop thinking, always think of the overall picture."
The best class I've had at Cabrillo yet. Carlos' way of seeing physics was so clear that I actually believe I really understood all of the concepts of the course. His posted lecture notes are the biggest resource besides talking to him during office hours. Office hours are always packed with students, which tells you how popular he is.
Carlos is the man. I loved his class, his lectures were genuinely fun and since our physics dep doesn't use the book his online notes were very helpful. One word of warning, english is not his first language and I'm an auditory learner so his tendency to use the wrong words would confuse me. That said, it was still the most fun I've had in class.
Just finished taking SJSU EE101 Placement Exam and scored a 100%. Full credit has to go to Carlos for the incredible preparation. The crazy thing is that he was sick at the beginning of S17 and almost missed the entire semester. Lucky for me, (or scary to think w/o him) it didn't happen. Thank you Carlos!
Carlos' notes and explanations in class are clear. He also gives study guides for the tests which accurately represent what is on the test.
Carlos' lectures were posted online and where much better and easier to understand than the textbook. Furthermore, his lecture notes had all the in-examples done in mathematical detail, which help a lot with solving the homework. Take any of his classes because it will help you get through.
Carlos is one of the best teachers I've ever had at Cabrillo. His classes are challenging but extremely rewarding if you apply yourself! He is always accessible outside of class in both the PLC and office hours. I owe all my success in Phys4A to the individual attention Carlos gives to his students!
Carlos is the cool professor with a great personality and amazing lectures. He is very caring and wants you to succeed in his class. Workload and tests are fair too. The king.
One can tell the mark of a great professor when you look at the number of people who seek Carlos out during office & PLC hours, as well as his willingness to see students outside of office hours. He is caring and tries his damn best to help you with any misunderstanding, that's why he is a 5 star prof. And his lectures are great!
Carlos has been one of my favorite teachers at Cabrillo. He is great at explaining the underlying concepts behind physics, leaving you with the knowledge to tackle any of the more specific applications on tests. Highly recommend you develop a study group to work on problems sets with as those can take up a lot of time.
Carlos is an amazing lecturer where he is able to connect abstract ideas to everyday applications. I can see why he earned the Teaching Excellence Award for Cabrillo, he is that good. But I have found that his greatest strength is his one to one interactions. I missed a couple of lectures thinking that I was going to drop his class when Carlos call
Carlos told me that it is best to take different instructors for Phys 4A, 4B & 4C and I did follow his advice. What a mistake! I am now taking Carlos for Circuits (sad that it is my last class with him) and what a pleasure it is to learn from the master. The man is so clear and if you need help, he will bend over backwards to help.
This guy really knows how to teach. I had him for 4B and 4D before and it's always a good time. Make sure to attend class since lectures are packed with material. Also expect a weekend lecture or two. Plenty of funny moments and really hammers in the concepts.
I am a UCSC student taking the summer 4C course. Carlos is the best professor I have ever had. Lectures are "deep" with his example problems during lecture being extremely helpful on solving homework problems. BUT, his ability to listen and act with compassion is his strongest characteristic. One could not get a better professor than him.
Carlos is the best! Not having seen any physics concepts before, this class was hard for me, but Carlos' visual teaching style helped me so much. Doing and understanding the problem sets are vital for passing the weekly quizzes. Lectures and notes are super clear. Great teacher to take to learn a solid base for the rest of the physics series!
Carlos is a great professor! I was really worried about taking Physics but he explains everything so clearly and doesn't grade tough on assignments/quizzes/exams.
Carlos's lectures are amazingly well done, and he is very fair about putting off homework if we haven't finished the material in lecture. Most of all, it is obvious how much he cares about us as students. He invites us to pop in to ask questions even if he is overseeing another Lab. Very important to make the lectures and take notes.
Carlos is wonderful! A very caring dude with amazing lectures. He is so laid back yet explains ideas and concepts in the most intuitive manor. He focuses on the conceptual side of physics rather than memorization. If you put in the effort, you will come out the other side with a mass of new knowledge. Definitely recommend!
The class is as difficult as any STEM class is. Carlos was a great teacher to have! He caring & wants you to pass. Regarding the unexpected Covid-19 switch to online he worked with students to ensure as many of us stayed in the class.
We just started classes a couple weeks ago, but so far Carlos has given excellent explanations. I can't stress enough how well he has explained the concepts. He goes into detail, addressing questions clearly and with respect. 10/10 would take again. He has made sure glitches in the online format don't get in the way of students submitting work.
All time favorite teacher. I would take any class he teaches! Definitely wants you to understand the concepts, not just regurgitate the math. Available for office hours and will sit with you until you understand, and grades fairly with partial credit. Not easy, you have to work for it, but it's so rewarding when you do. Plus he's a delight!
The professor has a lot of experience. He uses a kinesthetic approach to teach his lectures. He is very careful with the information and language he uses for his explanations. Be prepare to work alongside him. You will never get bore with his lectures. Its a lot a great information!
Carlos is a friendly teacher and he does have a genuine care for his students. He will try to help students who are falling behind or don't understand the material, which there are a lot of. This is because despite his genuine demeanor, his class is quite unorganized and poorly presented. His poor grammar can make exams unintelligible sometimes.
Carlos is a nice guy, and knows a lot about physics. I truly think he tries his hardest to adapt to online circumstances; however, this class has been a challenge online. I recommend holding off on taking it until it's perhaps in person. The homework often has mistakes and some of the quizzes glitch which can be tough. He grades on the easy side.
Carlos has a friendly and hospitable nature . Unfortunately that doesn't make for a good professor every time. 75% of your grade comes from 2 exams, the rest is everything else. It's purely lectures with frequent errors, unnecessary repetition, and weird analogies. The class is unorganized and we failed to get through 2/3 of the material. 4D only.
Carlos is a friendly professor but I emailed him multiple times during this online learning and never once got a response. He said the final was going to be a combination of all the quizzes and exams and it was. However on a quiz I took previously I got a 10/10 and for the same problem on the final I got a 4/10 and that happened consistently.
First time taking Carlos and he wasn't bad, long lectures that can get boring since he tends to repeat main ideas to get them in your head. Not a ton of HW and there was weekly quizzes that weren't very difficult. It's recommended that you form a good group so you can work together for the labs and the one group project. Groups aren't req. tho.
Carlos wants his students to succeed and is a great lecturer, but to do great in his class you have to seek out help. He intentionally challenges you to expand your scope outside of class. I recommend going to his office hours with any confusing HW questions you can't crack and really diving into the material. Work hard and Carlos will reward you.
It's a tough course, and Carlos is aware of that so he is open to changing due dates and wants to make things reasonable. He is very passionate and wants to make sure you understand the topics well so you actually learn something from it. Lectures are long and it's note heavy but they are allowed to be used on exams. A solid choice for a physics.
The beginning seemed fine and everything was going great but at the end all classes get difficult. I was taking 6 classes including this one and from all the 6 this was the most progressively difficult one. Id try and email him multiple times and no response. On the final there was a remake for the exam and he never graded it. emailed him. Nothing
This was the third physics course I've taken with Carlos and it was definitely one of the easier courses in the physics series. The labs were interesting and engaging, and the overall content of the course was very intriguing. Homework makes you think, and if you ever need help Carlos is always glad to help, and he's overall a great physics prof.
Probably the best lecturer I've seen. Pay special attention to the in-class examples since those concepts show up in the quizzes/exams. How he helped me during his office hours was the reason why I passed his class, which is very tough! He encourages people to come to his office hrs, hang out in Zoom, and do homework with him and others.
He was a very good professor overall. I liked his attitude and his lectures were very pleasing to sit through. He made his notes and video lectures available at all times. A minor issue is that he was a bit disorganized in terms of dates. I was never sure when an assignment was due as it would depend largely on his lectures. Still highly recommend.
This is a tough course, but Carlos will teach you everything you need to know. He does a great job of making the lectures really helpful and detailed and definitely prepares you for hw and exams/quizzes. You will spend a lot of time working through the hws but they prepare you very well for the exams. Overall great class and you will become a pro.
Carlos is the actual best. He is so passionate about physics and spreads his passion to his students. He is extremely understanding of student situations and is always willing to work with students. He says some funny sh*t which makes lectures interesting. I'd recommend him to anyone who needs to take a physics class or is interested.
Not the best professor, found him to be stingy and rude. Pretty hefty workload and was not updating Canvas regularly. Seems like a good professor IRL, but not online. Lectures sucked, no visualization at all.
Carlos lectures were amazingly thorough. Watch his YT lecture videos at 1.5 speed to get through the material in time to do the homework. Make sure you understand his examples since they show up on quizzes and exams. Some of the labs were okay but the circuits ones were fun. The PLC quizzes were not very good but just another hoop to jump.
I want to give Carlos a 5 because he really knows his stuff and is amazing to talk too. At the same time, he can be frustrating. Especially his conceptual problems seem open ended but he's always looking for a specific answer. He means well though and will do everything in his power to help you succeed. Just get ready for a disorganized Canvas.
Recorded lectures were very interesting and well detailed. Homework takes a while can be rigorous. Canvas and spacing between assignments was diabolical (Can be 2 assignments in a week or 4 in 1 day). Assignments were graded out of order. Often doesn't respond to emails. The content of the class was good but the course was executed poorly.
GOAT Physics Professor. Up there with the likes of Newton, Einstein, Feynman, Gauss, etc.
