He is very clear and gives great examples. He doesn't stop lecturing even if people are talking to each other and on the cell phone. As long as you go to class and pay attention and do your HW, the class should be easy. He is a great teacher and the tests are all based on HW and class examples.

Everybody seems to hate him but I bet those people never did his HW. Like someone mentioned, he doesn't collect HW, only assigns it to help you prepare for tests. Well I did all the HW and Aced his tests like Roger Federer aces tennis balls. Funny sense of humor and speaks clearly despite accent!

He is a really good teacher, he is also very easy going, but at some point hell get weird on you. But otherwise i think he is a really good math teacher and he also teaches at a very slow pace

He is colombian, but very understandable. The class consists of lectures, and going over hw probs. He always starts EVERY answer to a question by saying "this is a typical question..." Anyone who has ever had problems with math he is your man. Hes got a very dry sense of humor. All those times you were in math class and teachers would assume you know a rule or something he doesn't. He explains everything to the fullest. Plus the tests are super easy to pass and he puts them online before he gives them...easy A

This professor is very easy going. He seems a bit intimidating but he's a ****cat. He gives extra credit. Study, people, study!!! He's a very kind person and only comes on strong to people who try to "be smart". Excellent professor. He knows his stuff! Amazingly intelligent! Go for it!

I had him for pre calculus some years ago, he was a good teacher.

He was a very easy teacher for me, I had him for MGF 1106 and I was headed towards a C+ but since he drop my worst grade and replace it with my higher grade I ended up have a A- It was awesome. Yes he may talk like a robot, but he makes it really understandable, he always show you step by step. But he does have his pros and cons... this guy just work for me.

I got an A- in this class. All you gotta do is follow up with homework and youll be fine. He gave extra credit and offered his cell number for those who needed extra help.

I previously failed this course with a D, I hated that lady and if I could remember her name I'd advise you to stay away. I retook it with Gil during the summer... I loved it... it was easy and all you had to do was do the hw for practice and come to class... if you don't come to class don't expect to pass. I ended up getting a A, this guy just works for me... I like him he the only one I can understand.

He is hysterical and a genius! He remembers the whole lesson every class. He is a little weird, but he gives bonus quizzes just about every class if you stay for 5 minutes later. I would take him again!!

I think Mr. Gil is an excellent teacher. I love how he writes EVERYTHING he says on the board. I dont know why people are saying he's hard, i think he's quite simple and very good at teaching.

Nice guy, and teaches very well. He is extremely boring, and has a very monotonous voice that will put you to sleep. Other than that, he is straight forward and explains everything really clearly. During class, he even tells you which examples from the notes are going to be on the test. I am bad at math, and I actually understood the material.

I had him for College Algebra in Fall 2005. He was a very boring teacher. I love the way he talks, though. Most of the class, including myself failed all of his exams, because he is not great at relaying information...but we all passed. I ended up with a C in the class, and some even got B's because or alot of curves

It's showtime! Great professor, as long as you pay attention and take notes you will pass the class. at the beginning of the semester he may seem strict, but as the semester passes he becomes more leniant by giving extra credit and crazily curving tests. i would highly recommend his class, i might even take his trig class.

Lets face it most people taking Finite math are doing so because msth is not their best subject. If you fail its your own fault. Professor Gil writes everything on the board, so his accept should not matter. His tests are short, so you have about an hour to work out 10 problems. The questions are STRAIGHT from his notes and the book.

This professor is boring, but he's good. His lectures are not bad and he puts problems of that are gonna be on the test in his lectures. People failed because they didn't study. He's boring but good. Take him.

Definitely recommend this professor. He really knows his Math and tries to help his students. As long as you don't miss class and study his notes for the exam passing will not be a problem.

If you have to take trig. I DEFINITELY suggest you take it with Gil. This is not an easy class but he explains clearly, gives you extra points at the end of the class, and makes things as easy as possible. He also drops the lowest grade. Trust me take it with Gil, just make sure u study for the exams and you should be fine. Do not freak out!

He gives you so much help and extra credit it's impossible to fail. He gives you 5 exams and gives you 5 points for attendance. He is very knowledgeable, and is amazing at explaining the material. He drops the lowest grade and replaces it with the highest and if your final exam grade is higher than your class grade he replaces it with that.

This prof. is not that bad, really!! he gives a lot of extra credit. If you fail then you should completely drop out of college. If you get a 50 on the final he gives you a C in the class, plus he drops your lowest grade and replaces it by the highest( best 4 out 5). Attandance is not mandatory he'll give you the point regardless at the end.

This teacher is the best all you have to do to get an A is to do the homework, which he never collects, but starts every class by asking about any homework concerns, of course! those are the test questions he just changes the numbers! oh don't even try to cheat he makes about 5 different versions of the test!

Lets face it..college algebra is very hard. FIU has a 75 % (i think) fail rate for the first time you take it. This guy teaches very well. He has no accent. but the best part is that he did everything he could have possible done to help us pass. he is awesome

OK...let me tell you the truth about Prof. Gil.I took 3 of his classes, math, College algebra, and business calculus. I HATE MATH with passion.Prof.Gil is a good guy he know exactly how to teach all you have to do is put in a little effort show him you go to class everyday follow all his examples, and the final is everything thats on your tests.

Reality is, Calculus is hard, this class is HARDER. He writes everything on the board, and his exams are hard. No denying that. But if you do the HW, and practice the problems he does, you will pass the class. Sadly, he takes forever to grade exams. He does drop the lowest exam for the highest exam score. Final was a killer. Beware of this prof!!

His office hours are really specific, b/c he teaches at FIU and Dade. He writes everything, in detail, on the board. He gives studyguides. Plenty of extra credit opportunities! Cummulative, hard, department written final, but he drops your lowest grade & replaces it with your highest. Your grade = 4 exams, the final, extra credit, and attendance.

Lectures and writes EVERYTHING on the board. Attendance is not mandatory. When I needed help, he was always willing to help. He may seem quiet and careless to some people, but he's actually very understanding and caring. Extra Credits are available. 4 Exams, drops lowest grade, Final Exam Grade can be used as Final Grade IF student did very well.

WHAT A TRIP! Hes very funny and is fun to listen to. He has a dry sense of humor and it works for the class. The subject is the easist math class at FIU, so if you fail, you need to go to Miami-Dade.

He is not a horrible teacher! His class can be hard if you do not attend every time. If you do attend, the material is quite simple. He does try to help you pass by making the exams very simple and straightforward & he gives a curve on every exam. He tries to help you during his office hours by explaining something that you might not understand.

Many of the examples he does in class are duplicates of what are on the tests, and the study guides are very helpful. Gives extra cred on tests, which helps. 3 tests + final, which can replace a test grade if you need it to.

This class is very boring. If you don't come to class you will be confused on the exams. This class isn't easy at all you really have to study alot to understand the material. You basically need to know the exact deifinitions because he does take off points for every little thing.

It would be redundant to mention the class is boring, but it IS. If you do not attend class and try to study on your own you have absolutely NO way of passing. Better go to class, take notes and try and pay attention. His tests are strictly off his lecture notes and the questions/examples he does in class which he gives all the answers to. Curves!

He may not be the best teacher in FIU but hes a math genius and explains the material pretty well. Although he doesnt take the time to answer questions during lecture, he is slow and methodical and glad to help after class. Overall, hes not terrible. Curves a lot on tests too.

This was the last course required for me to complete my UCC. I definitely never considered myself "a math" person. However, after taking this course with him I realized what a difference a teacher, who knows how to teach this particular subject, makes. Needless to say, he is the best math teacher I have ever taken.

Honesly just took this class. Don't take this professor if you dont like going to class or studying a lot. If you want a good grade in this class GO EVERY DAY, AND STUDY A LOT!! his tests are very tricky but able to get good grade.

THIS PROFESSOR IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Whoever says he's bad is because they are really not trying. He is helpful and clear, you don't need to buy the text book because he provides you with all you need to know so he's saving you money. His exams are short and precise, he doesn't beat around the busch.Math is my worst nightmare and he made me like it.

This class is very hard. The exams are very short, and you need to be precise in all your answers. The exams are all free write so you need to like super study. The martial is not extremely difficult but it takes a lot of memorization. it is very HARD.

If you want to keep bright futures and want an A, then DO THE HW (even though he doesn't collect it, still do it), copy ALL notes, and ask HIM questions during his office hours. if you don't understand his ways, then go to tutoring for a different method. doing these things got me an A :)

Really ridiculous what a lot of people are saying. He teaches out of the textbook because it's a short, dry course. He keeps all notes online. He reviews on the class directly before tests. Don't buy the textbook, keep up at least online, and save your tests for the final. He just throws them together. This is an easy class and he's a funny person.

I think he's a great professor, only thing that bothers me is his constant tardiness. Other than that he's A+. Very clear, has a sense of humor, and its incredibly easy to pass the tests. He always curves. Dont buy the book, just go to every class and take good notes.

If you actually go to class and pay attention you SHOULD NOT have a problem. He is very nice and although his jokes aren't the best you see he is trying. I really enjoyed taking the class with him. JUST GO TO CLASS!!

Prof.Gil is cristal clear in his lectures. He prepares his students well for tests. Do not expect to have your grades back until..well until the grades are posted at the end of semester. He is funny and very smart.

I took this class once before and failed. Professor Gil was consistent with his lectures, clear and to the point. He makes it easy to understand for those mathematically challenged. I got an A but went to EVERY class, took notes and studied. Didn't even look at the book. He curves and genuinely wants you to pass. I fully RECOMMEND him.

Going into the class I was told it was an easy A. Lies. I didn't study and failed the first 2 tests I only got my grade raised on the second after talking to him. His tests are hard, yes. You will likely get worse grades than you thought possible (I did). However, due to the magic of curving and the way he sets up his grading system, there really is absolutely no way you can end up with a bad final grade unless you're a bad student. He's understanding and very generous. He may get a little boring though :p

Gil is very enthusiastic and fun. I found him easy to understand and knowledgeable about the material. Though he usually points to the book for help, you don't need it and you can go to his office hours if you need anything. He will listen and do his best to help.

Professor Gil is a great professor, he explains things thoroughly and doesn't mind repeating himself for the student's sake. Always reachable through email. A bit of a joker, and it gets old but still a nice guy. Take notes, do your homeworks for extra cred, and you'll be fine. Going to class is not mandatory but you want to go to class.

Most people who claim he is a horrible professor were not great students themselves. Funny, very thorough, nice slow pace for students who are not so great at math (myself + most in his class). Study the study guides and do your homework (turn it in even if you don't think it's right/complete) and go to class and you will be happy with your grade.

He is so great! Took him for STA 2023 and the tests were literally class lecture problems with different numbers. He also let us use one blank sheet of paper for the last exam with anything you want on it and TWO for the final. He says he doesn't curve but he does. He's super funny to.

If you take notes in class you will pass. Tough grader so just memorize everything as it is. Reviews are EXACTLY like the test. Just do the work and you'll pass.

He comes in and out of class with a repetitive spiel. He tends to go off on a tangent not related to the topic at hand. However, his instruction is clear and concise, yet the exams are challenging.

He is not a very easy professor. you have to pay attention to every detail that is on his test. Come to class and make sure your phones are off because each time a phone rings you get a pop quiz, and they are not easy. Listen and you will learn a lot. I had a lot of fun with tis professor.

Mr. Gil is often criticized for his "monotone" but there is only so much you can do about your nationality and where you are from. He is a very good lecturer, Explains very and well and will go over a problem if you make it known that you do not understand. Provides loads of extra credit and very helpful test reviews.

GIL! such a funny guy! This class is easy but it has a lot to memorize which makes it hell. I had to work a lot to achieve my A and attend tutoring. You really need to give time to this class! He will give you some extra points but the exams are really tough and all memory wise

He gives you three quizzes of which he gives a similar review on, and switches your lowest test grade to the highest test grade, Its just memorizing a lot of things and If you care you'll pass the class easily

Very routine kind of teacher. Enjoyed having him. He made math a bit more bearable 4 someone who really dislikes the subject. Did great on the 1st 2 exams not so much on the last one. I took this class summer of 2015. Professor Gil was awesome! He let us use one sheet of paper as a "cheat sheet" for the the three tests we had. On the final he let us use our notes and gave us 10 extra points. He also gave the whole class 100% on one of the tests. His study guide is exactly like his tests! I would definitely take him again!

Professor Gil would stay after class and assist students that were having problems with his math problems. I witness this on many occassions. I was one of those students.

I absolutely loved this professor. He cares about his students and explains everything clearly during lecture, so go to class. He tells you exactly what to expect on the tests and tries to give you as much extra credit as possible. I got an A and really enjoyed his class

Great class. I never liked math before but I enjoyed this teacher.

If you copy all the examples down and actually review for the exams you should have no problem, the tests are very similar and he also has extra credit on them. There is offline HW but that helps your grade and provides more examples for the tests if you ask me. The final replaces the lowest test grade. He's not the best responding to e-mails tho.

No matter who you take calc with, the course will be CHALLENGING. Prof. Gil is a REAL MATHEMATICIAN. This class was NOT an easy A. You have to put in work in the class (this is coming from someone who has a weak background in math). If you put in work, you will pass! He is a little bit-picky in grading, but its allowed me to improve. Great prof!
