One of my favorite teachers ever. I absolutely hate chemistry, and he made it interesting. Funny guy too, and incredibly nice.

This man needs an award for teaching Chemistry, I dreaded taking this class and it turned out to be one of the most fun I've had. Who knew Chemistry could be so entertaining? I highly recommend! Call him Mr. H, he likes it :)

Mr.H was at times a little wierd, but he really made the class interesting. There was never a dull moment. He's very helpful and he takes a personal interest in his students, and as long as you study the homework he assigns you'll be fine!

hernandez is a really great teacher, always upbeat and enthusiastic, completely understands his subject and makes it as easy as possible. also, take lab with him as he makes those easy too! he would cut a lot of the labs out sometimes to make them easier. he is a great teacher!

Mr. Hernandex is hilarious. He makes the class a lot of fun, which is rare for a chemistry teacher. I recommend him highly.

i actually learned and understood chemistry for once in my life thanks to Mr. H! He is great at explaining this stuff in terms everyone can understand. If you have to take chemistry I suggest him!

MR,H is great he explains things very well. I was terrified to take a chem class but got an A. He is very funny so that helps lighten up the mood in a chem class. He knows what he is talking about and is very willing to help anyone who is stuck. I would definatley recommend him to anyone taking a chem class. Tests are straight foward. HW is a must.

What a nice guy! His lectures are interesting (and funny), and the class itself is relatively easy, as far as chemistry classes go.

I took this course over in the summer and let me tell you....EASY!!! I took Harper, which was a mistake and failed. But this guy is great. Little silly at times but gets the point across. Just wish he was teaching 120 this summer. still need ot take that!

Laid back, easy to deal with, not overly demanding of students. Only had for lab, but was more than willing to help.

this teacher is WQNDERFUL. He takes his personal time, for hours to help us understand before we take a test. He wants everyone to pass his class and he give plenty of personal help. He is very professional and appears to love his job. Take this teacher if you need chemistry.

i really like this teacher, hes nice, funny, he really helps you, and makes sure you understand what hes teaching. his grading policy is great. i would reccomend this tcher 2 someone who struggles in class, bcuz he is very helpful and an 85 is an A. the only thing bad is that the homework is online, and i personally struggle accessing a comp 24/7

Mr. hernandez was so funny and he made this class fun. I also enjoyed some of the many tricks he taught us that helped with solving the problems. Very good teacher.

If you have to take chemistry take Hernandez, you won't regret it. Of course you have to read the textbook and take notes, but what science class doesn't (except bio 101 with Shahla). He makes learning fun AND funny. "Hook it up" Mr. H! -you'll get that after you take his class...

Very kick back teacher. The subject is difficult but his exams reflect exactly what he teaches and his grading scale is really low. Very,very helpful. Wants everyone to pass. If u know the material, then attendance is not mandatory,just make sure you pass the exams with 55% or higher

Prof. H is a very funny teacher. He is a character, with a great sense of humor, and makes chem fun. He has great teachers aids that are very helpful, and you don't have to take the final if your are passing.

His tests are easy, homework is easy [answers are in the back], He likes to go slow through lectures so its easier to understand. He likes to go off on random tangents but his personality still made it fun. HIGHLY reccommened.=]

Awesome Professor! Hernandez teaches chemistry with passion motivates students to learn by sharing his interest in bio-chemistry. Overall, he's such a helpful professor when needed and will go an extra miles out of his way to keep his students interested & making sure that the students understands the materials well. Utterly useless class. I got an A, not complaining, but the class was such a blowover if you have even the most cursory of chemistry knowledge (like a chemistry class in high school). Lectures drag forever, he oftens spends half of them with anecdotes and 'jokes' about Oprah and his wife and beans. Great if you need to pass it for IGETC or transfer

Best teacher at AVC. His class is geared to have people pass. 85% and up is an A. 70% and up is a B. 65% and up is a C. If you follow what he says you will pass with flying colors. If you plan on taking Chem then Mr. H is your man.

hes a good teacher. class was good, if you plan on getting an a, be prepared to studyy study and stuudy like crazy. at the beginning is fairly easy, but wow... it gets intense, prob. the best chem teacher to take at avc.

Excellent teacher for such a difficult subject. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. As long as you do your homework, the tests aren't too bad. He is FREAKING hilarious, too! You'll enjoy him.

He is such a great teacher i recommend 100%. This was my second time taking chemistry and he made it so simple to understand it. He is also funny. He has an accent, but he is so helpful. you should take him.

Great teacher. The best at AVC. Hernandez was extremely helpful and funny. He's been teaching here for about 20 years and really knows his stuff. I highly recommend. To get an A you need to really study, he also gives quizzes straight from MasteringChemistry.com and posts the powerpoints up. Can't wait to take him for Chem 110.

The best teacher I have had yet at AVC. Not only is he friggin' hilarious, he seems to truly care for the learning goals of students. He makes jokes and teases a little here and there, but it's all in good fun. He takes time to help you understand concepts that you may have difficulty in understanding. I hope I can get into his class for chem 102!

Easily has to be one of my favorite teachers i have ever had. Very well rounded and will do anything to help a student pass. This teacher will help you out if you need help and he will sacrifice his time for you. we had a 5 hour lecture and he would tell jokes to keep us awake and he is very intelligent.A must have teacher for any chemistry student

Maestro, Hernandez is a fun, thoughtful, and experienced chemistry professor.His teaching style is fun and easy to understand if you pay attention during his classes and read the textbook before his class.I am sure that if you can do what you need to in this class, it is easy to get an A. I highly recommend to take his class.

Mr. Hernandez creates a very positive learning environment that eases the approach to Chem 101. Still, the class requires a moderate amount of effort. I got an 'A', but would I consider it easily earned? Well, the material got complicated at times, but the book is just so good, combined with Hernandez's teaching, got me that 'A'.

his lectures are good and easy to follow... his homework and tests are very reasonable and he really tries to help the students

Hernandez is a great teacher for chemistry. he makes it easy to understand although it is a tough subject.Do the slides before class. LOTS of studying. i recommended reading the chapter before class. Makes things easier. His lab is tough tho. very picky but you do learn. I had Nash for lab. Easy A but you dont learn much. Overall amazing teacher

Easy to understand and has a good method of explaining.Keeps the tests parallel to book, and doesn't put more than 4 chapters on each test. Final is not cumulative, which I think helps those who won't be continuing in chem. Good teacher, expects you to study tho. Get used to it. You're in college. teacher can't do everything

He was a pretty good teacher, i passed with a C because i have a hard time with this subject but overall he was very kind, helpful, and SUPER funny & entertaining. Just study alot to pass the tests and quizzes!!

Words cannot describe how awesome professor Hernandez is. His class isn't easy but it is fun. Never a dull moment always has jokes and the best stories ever!!! Make sure you study, no study guides are given. He doesn't even tell you the material covered on the test. He's fair and very understanding, couldn't have asked for anything better.

Best Professor Ever! Mr. H. is very clear and explains everything in a way that is really easy to understand, Yes there is a lot of homework to be done, but in the end thats all practice for the test because the material is very similar. Very fun class, made chemistry enjoyable! I definitely recommend him.

distracted a lot and loves to tll stories, but i managed to get a B after maintaining an A, but thats because i didnt study for the last test. 3 tests, and grades on a curve. very hepful and yes u need book. and do online hw and study. still id recommend if you have at least some backround.

I had him on an all day Saturday class. He kept the autmosphere light/funny which helped make the day go very quickly. He grades fair, and regularly lets you know where you stand so you can make the decision to drop or stay and risk failing. By all means, this class is NOT easy. Alot of the concepts require you to practice.

At first I was a little unsure of him, but as the semester goes, this professor really helps you understand basic chemistry, if you're not trying, don't expect to pass. He's very talkative, but he just tries to keep the classroom light.. Go to S.I it helps, even if you think you know the material, it gets harder. You get what you put in, work hard.

Great instructor, does tell a lot of stories, but in the end they help you remember things. Very easy laid back style of teaching. Just ask him what he has in his cup of tea really. no one can be that much of a morning person on a Saturday.

He's a very good professor! He knows what he is talking about and shares stories to help understand a topic. Tests are sort of difficult but if you study the online section quizzes you will be prepared. Homework also helps prepare you for the lab and tests. Hilarious likes to crack jokes and within a second gets back to chemistry. He keeps the class light but at the same time makes sure you learn and work hard. Wants to make sure when you leave his class you learn. Kim Kardashian if you are thinking of taking chem 101 and pass with A here is your man. He is her biggest fan next to oxygen.

Hernandez grades on a curve an 86 out higher is an A. He's really funny and also helpful. He grades fast, you will know how your doing before the drop date. During lectures he tried to make the material comprehensive.

H is actually my favorite professor yet! He provides a website with all the lectures, he will tell you on the first day of class "if you follow my lead, I will get you there."This mean show up to class with the lectures printed, do the practice problems and keep up with the homework. H will help you, don't be afraid to ask!

Lectures are mostly power points. He grades on a curve (which is awesome and helps a lot). 3 lecture chapter test (multiple choice), 1 lab test (fill in the blank and multiple choice) + lab final (which is optional if you have a good grade in the class). Homework is all online. Doesn't really teach the material you have to learn it on your own.

I like this professor . He is very funny, he tells stories that help to lighten up the class but those stories are related to the topic he discuss . Very brilliant making you listen without getting bored.. The test are not easy but if you listen to his discussion /stories and do you homework. You will be fine .

He was a cool teacher. His personality was too much for my liking, and I was tired of his obsession with Kim Kardashian. Grades are easier, has 15 intervals rather than the regular 10. Doesn't really care if you're absent to Lecture, I missed about half of them.

One of the best chem professors in AVC. Super hilarious and well respected. Attendance is mandatory, after 3 unexcused absences, he could drop you. Offers extra credit, most homework is online (Access code required MyChem Lab). Lab impossible to fail, easy A.

H. is Hilarious! When he lectures he'll say stuff like "Don't tell me you didn't learn this" so it might seem like you can't go to him for help, BUT YOU CAN. He'll explain things in a simple way. He's super smart too, and very organized. There are 3 tests, and they're easy, they come straight from the homework or Power P. Also, 86 or higher is an A

If you're in 101 be prepared to get drilled on not knowing the basics. Hard class, had about 40 students & dropped to a little less than half after 2nd exam grades were posted. Don't let that discourage you he's there to help when you need it and will guide you until you understand it. Study for the tests using his power points and his study guides

Professor H is a good instructor. As a student it is your job to study for a test, your job to show up to class and understand the material. His lectures and slides are really helpful in understanding the concept of the section you're on. He's funny and chill. If you have a problem understanding then ask him.

I'm taking a Saturday class with him and I do not regret it! He is super laid back with our class and lets us leave when we're finished. The only homework is the prelab and lab reports are due at the end of class. The midterm was a piece of cake. He actually grades your lab reports so make sure you do everything correctly. 85 and up is A.

Mr. H is a great professor, if you can take him for both the lecture and lab DO IT! I had him for Lab only and I learned more from him than i did with my lecture professor. Work on the prelabs and take your labs seriously, the midterm and final are based on the labs. Correct questions that you got wrong so you study the correct answer! RECOMMEND!

He is a pretty funny person and makes sure he has your attention. He will sometimes call on people randomly to do answer a problem or question but does not care if you're right or wrong. He will make sure that everyone understands the material and makes it a point to make himself available. Always willing to help you understand.

Extremely understanding of work load. He allowed the students to choose between paper or online homework. He went against the Chemistry board in refusing to have a lab final since most students had failed in the past. So there's no lab final. HE WANTS YOU TO PASS. He gives practice quizzes that aren't worth credit so you know what to expect later.

Hes a great Professor! If you take him, go to his office hours and ask for help if your struggling. Hes always available and ready to help you. Just make sure you do the homework and read the PowerPoint before coming to class, and youll pass with an A!

Professor H is awesome, he is able to tell you what you need to do for lab. Make sure to have the prelabs done. If you miss a lab you are going to have to schedule a time you can make it up. He did drop the lowest lab score. And he has 2 quizzes. For our class the labs and pre labs made up 75% and quizzes were 25% of the lab grade.

You have to do your homework and understand it very well in order to pass the class and exams, he is very helpful in lab and if you have questions on the homework!!!

Carlos is one of the funniest lab teachers I've had. If you respect him , he'll show the same to you. Lab would get a little hard but he does review the topics before you start and is always open to people asking for help t make sure they did it the right way. He was super chill and he allows for you to skip 1 class.

I am currently in the middle of taking Professor Hernandez for my Chem 101 lab section. He is excellent. The entire semester our lecture professor has had us behind by 2 or more chapters and as such we do not know the materials we need to know for lab. Hernandez uses our short assembly to give wonderful concise lectures to get us up to speed.

I'm currently taking Prof H, he's such an amazing professor. He is really nice to students and helps whenever it's needed, course load isn't bad and lets you bring a cheat card to tests. He really does care for his students wellbeing and his class is an easy A if you put your effort into it.

I honestly don't know why he's rated so low because for lab he was great. Always answered any questions and helped me. Labs were easy A's and easy to follow along. Only two tests the entire semester and they were fairly easy if you study and actually tried on the labs. Almost every lab I finished early. Would definitely take him again.

4 lecture exams on Canvas [30Q] (can take on phone), 2 lab quizzes on paper [about 20Q], takes attendance but lowkey not mandatory later in semester, tbh...lectures weren't too helpful. Wants you to pass! No extra credit. Labs aren't hard. maybe take stats and bio before chem (yes, there's math). Grading Scale: A:100-85, B:84-72, C:71-58 D:57-45
