Exelent Instructor. I love all of his classes specially SOC205. I really learn about what is sociology. It is an easy class if you take it seriouly and read the book. This class has change my poin of view of society and how it works.

Mr. Lopez is a very nice man. He does have a great sense of humor, too. I thought the material was interesting but all he did was lecture. I was hoping for more interaction and activities with other students. Overall, it was a fine class.

Recommend this class and this instructor. Makes the class interesting and is enthusiastic about the subject and his students learning the subject. Expects you to put your time in. Don't expect to wimp out on the reading or skip class and pull an A. Talk (w/o raising hand) during his lectures and he'll probably kick you out for the day.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWW. This professor is awful. Extreme time limits on tests. If you don't test well on time limits don't take this class. I felt like he didn't grade the quizes in a timely matter so you didn't know how you were doing before taking the tests. I would not EVER take him again!!!!!!!!

This is the second on-line class I've taken from Carlos. Although this class was significantly more difficult than the first (SOC 205), it was an excellent class. Carlos is a great teacher and you will learn a lot from him. I don't think I can possibly say enough good things about him - Take his classes - you'll have fun AND learn something!

Very funny guy, very helpful. He wants you to do well in his class. Tells you exactly what you need to study for before the test, and is great at lecturing. I'm taking his class next term too! I would strongly reccomend him to anyone!

This is the only class that talks about why people ignore people farting, how prostitutes deal with the shame of there job and heavy stuff like poverty. He's helpful but does not baby class. All exams except for easy end of class essay. If you show up, read, and study, you will do good. He's funny but is serious about class.

Very hard class...I've been an honor student, and I really struggled although I studied very hard. It was an online class...so this adds to the challenge. However, I learned a lot.

I'm at PSU right now majoring in "Soc" mostly because of Mr. Lopez. I found that I know the basics better than most at PSU. He forces you to think like a sociologist. I'm enrolled in 221 at Chemeketa now, and I'm learning alot as usual but you have to work. Take all his classes like I did. I also like that He's generous with his time.

Carlos is the man. Took it online very cool & very hard. Read that book! It is a hard class no doubt. Tests are open book, open note. Hard quizzs and tests. Hard subject lots to learn. Some parts are boring boring boring. But 205 is better. Tapes and books are being upgraded thank goodness!

Took him a while back for an intro to soc class. It was awesome. He really pulls you into the discussion. I had plenty to say, even though I'm normally a wallflower. TAKE HIS CLASS! You will love it.

Don't be fooled on all the good you see. He shuts you up in the middle of your question/comment, will not help you, so much more than that-TERRIBLE. Since the beginning of winter term 08 there is probably 5 things I have written down that was direct comments and not just his "lectures" (conversations with himself). WILL NOT HAVE HIM AGAIN.

Excellent teacher- and made it fun. Always extremely helpful and nice. He made the class enjoyable and at the same time made you want to learn more about soc. I would definitly reccommend him to anyone. The one bad review was probably a student mad at their grade and retaliating.

I find his lectures very interesting, I have taken 2 classes from him so far and plan to take more in the future. If you do the readings and listen to his lectures you will do fine. Don't listen to the slackers on here.

Good teacher, keeps you focused and engaged in class. He's a bit high-strung when it comes to interruptions, though, so if you're prone to talking in the middle of lecture, be prepared to be chewed out.

Carlos' classes have changed my life. I will never think the same again. Prepare to erase your preconceived notions and judgments about people. You will learn to think like a sociologist. If you do what is expected of you, you shouldn't have a problem with the tests. They are not necessarily easy, but he tells you exactly what you need to know.

Great teacher, realy knows his stuff. Fair warning, read the book and take notes during class. Also to do well in the test, make sure to do the study guide, it realy does help. Great with questions and great lectures.

Great guy! Difficult exams, read your book and you'll be fine. Great to talk with after class about class material. I recommend his class, you will learn a lot. BTW has no one noticed that he looks just like Kevin Smith(Silent Bob)when Carlos has his beard? He even sounds like him. Crazy!

Juvenile delinquency online is perfect. Clear expectations. You read the ENTIRE book so make sure to set aside enough time! Tests are simple, study well. Feedback is limited, but available if requested. Very organized instructor! Easy A if you do the work :)

He really knows his stuff! Definitely doesnt just go off of his power point. Not all text. Kinda goes off about the subject and makes it hard to understand. Funny at times. But sometimes kinda irritating. Tests are difficult. Assignments are soo easy if you try. I would recommend!

If you have the textbook, failing this class is next to impossible. Test comes straight from the book, however they are pretty long and discussions generally pertain to things found in the book as well. Lecture notes are provided, but generally the book provided enough information for me to do well. Overall a good course.

Pretty easy online class overall - 2 written assignments, 5 discussions, 3 essay exams and 3 multiple choice tests. The tests were the most difficult part - the first one was 120 questions! However, they are all open book. If you read the text and online readings, you will be fine. The text is interesting with many sidebars.

Don't take this teacher if you can afford not to. He was rude. Took weeks to reply to simple e-mails. I don't think I learned very much in his class. I'm really rather upset by that.

Interesting course and interesting teacher. He brings in what is going on in the world but he is a big fan of sociology. His goal is for you to think and write that way which I got use to. Busy work is kept to a minimum. Course is organized where it make sense.

Lopez makes it easy for you to learn in this class! If you do the reading and watch the videos, you definitely learn. Read the chapters THOROUGHLY because his exams mostly cover that material. Follow his guidelines and you'll get an A!

Carlos made this subject intresting and applied it to real life situations. I enjoyed his assignments and did well at them. I received a 88.14 and unfortunatly did not get an A. Well worth my time and money. SOOO much better than my previous SOC204 teacher.

Good instructor. The class was very time consuming, I spent at least 2 hours a day doing the homework during the 8-week course. There was only 4 tests and good discussion topics.

Well, politics are my weakness. I used this class as an opportunity to understand politics. I found the class hard to get an A, but I did all the reading, put for effort in discussion and written assignments and was happy. He applies concepts in the book to real life and I enjoyed the class

Carlos is very fun in lecture and very open minded with how he approaches discussions. While class time reflects the online homework, lecture is near useless when it comes to the tests(which make up a bulk of your grade. The class is low pressure, but do your reading for testing.

Really enjoyed the class, discussions were pretty much your opinions on the subjects which made it really relatable. The tests were usually about 120 questions and essay tests were about 3 questions a piece. Great teacher!

One of the easiest online courses I've taken. Carlos is an easy grader and very helpful. There is a lot of reading which can be challenging if you don't have the time. Everything is based on the text so make sure you read! There's weekly discussions, 4 assignments, and 4 exams. Easy if you read the book and take notes as you go along.

He is one of the worst professors I have ever had. He is not clear in what he is lecturing and after every sentence he says the word, right. He makes every statement sound like a question and it is the most annoying thing I have ever had to deal with. What he lectures in class is not on the online exams. DO NOT TAKE this class if you can avoid it.

Very expressive, nice, intelligent instructor. His lectures were, although long, extremely interesting. There was no final or mid-term exam, just the regular assignments assigned and quizzes. The assignments required work, but if you put effort in, he will grade you fairly. Easy A if you do the work and study.

This was my first online class and i'm so happy I pick Lopez as a teacher. You have ten short quizzes, and 5 assignments. The quizzes are timed and you have two weeks or so to do the assignment. Awesome instructor:)

He gives a lot of assignments in his online classes. The outlines, due dates, and expectations were very clear. Had him for psy 101 as well, easy with a lot of group interaction and engaging lecture. Soc 206 was online and he gave us a list of what was due&when. He gave small point values to quizzes, but it was a pretty easy course.

Some times I was confused by his lectures and it really had nothing to do with the subject, but you can tell he loves his job. there is much to his assignments.

Took this class online and was very straight forward. The whole class was ready in the first week and everything was clear. I really liked him and was overall impressed with this teacher. I took SOC221 online and never once talked to Carlos for any help. I never read the book except for the last assignment, the quizzes are every week and the assignments are every two weeks. The quizzes are pretty much common sense.

Took SOC204 as Hybrid and liked it so much I took 205 & 206 online. The material and methods of teaching, especially 206, was among the best of any class I've had. He's a fairly easy grader if you've done the reading. Tests are hard, but in online classes you get 2 tries. Easy A's if you're willing to put in the time, and useful information.

I took SOC 205 and 206 with Carlos and he is a very clear-cut instructor. 206 was probably the best and most useful class I took at Chemeketa. His class for 205 was structured very differently than the other sociology classes I took, but if you read and do discussions then it makes the essay quizzes and exams much easier.

Great teacher. Interesting class & discussions. For tests you are expected to write papers in class about the material you're learning. You'd have to write about 3 topics & memorize the stuff & recreate it for the test. This is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken.

Carlos is very helpful. Took SOC 205 in person and 221 online. I though 205 was set up for everyone to succeed. Better than 204 with another teacher. DTopics were really interesting. 221 was probably the best CJ class I've taken. Got A in both classes. Not boringZ.

Carlos is a good choice for people who just want to learn a few things about sociology but aren't up for an in depth analysis. Reading the book is a must and he makes you think about what the book is saying before giving an answer. Just do the assignments and give lengthy answers and he'll grade you more than favorable.

An excellent teacher and class to take for those seeking an interdisciplinary subject that adds genuine value to a more thorough understanding of social policy, how it is created, and how change can be effected.

Carlos was a great teacher! I loved his styled and the laid back discussions we could have. He kept us on topic but didn't mind letting the discussion stray a bit. I felt his tests and activities weren't hard if you paid attention, did the reading or have a passion for Sociology. I would definitely recommend! Wish I could take 206 with him too.

I took 205 online, and I have to say that I think Carlos would be better in person. His online format was a bit unclear and the first exam was very heavy. I think I may have missed some links or something because the first exam wasn't what we had covered in the readings. Other than that Carlos is a great teacher, but he does expect a lot.

I was scared to take a online class but he is very easy. You do have to read the book because most of his quiz questions are about the book. He gives you two chances to take the quiz. He gave quizzes every Thursday and every other Tuesday an assignment was due.

If you take his class and want an easy grade I suggest you take it online. It's 10 easy discussions and 5 Semi easy assignments with 3 exams. I legit hardly ever studied and passed with a B (I missed one assignment). Just be sure to do all the work and you'll pass, not like it's hard.

Good professor with solid lectures. Grades very easy and gives you a lot of time to prep for exams, including giving you some of the questions in advance so you can prep. Quizzes could be taken 3 times with the highest score counted. There is a lot of reading involved, but the lectures make it more understandable.

Carlos was my favorite professor I had last term and was hilarious! I was a little nervous at first because this was my first year in college, but I had nothing to fear. There are quizzes online every week over the text, but you can do them 3 times. 2 assignments and 3 tests, but he grades pretty easily.

I have a interest in Juvenile Justice, and Carlos Lopez was the best teacher ever! He always gave helpful feedback, and his instructions were simple and clear. Make sure you read the book assigned, and you will get the information needed for the assignments. Would definitely take again

Good instructor. Hes passionate. Helps you open your mind to a new way of thinking. Going to every class would be best. Dont be intimidated by the Essay/Exams. Dont over think it. Break it down: 3 exams and weekly online quizzes. Hes a great teacher and he's funny and honest. SOC205 is graded by a point system of 100 points so u need to be careful. Online quizzes are hard af, but you can find all the answers on quizlet. The final took me about 2 days to finish it was tough, but I got full points and got a A in the class.

Taking juvenile delinquency was a fun and interesting course . Make sure to read the chapter and turn in the homework on time plus discussions every week and youre golden ! If its your first sociology class, take him in person if you can. Much better in person. The online class is pretty easy though. Mostly reading and responding. Carlos was fantastic. The knowledge was accessible and the assignments were fair. To really score well in his class, you have to engage with the material, complete the reading, and participate in class. The essay exams are straightforward; demonstrate you understand the concepts and explain them concisely and you'll get a fair grade. Great teacher!

This was my second term with this instructor. He is even more organized now than he was a few terms ago. He is a super fair grader. When I tried to turn back in he wouldnt let me, even though it was not my fault. He didn't grade ANYTHING. It took him over a month to grade assignments. He waited till the term literally was over and then graded my last five assignments that had been sitting marked "waiting to be graded" for at least a month and a half if not more. The final required a password & he waited till last minute to give it.

Carlos is a straight forward professor, and makes his expectations clear. If you put in the work, you'll earn an A. He is very fair, and doesn't overwhelm you with a bunch of busy work. You have weekly assignments and discussion posts, but they're pretty laid back, and if you completed the reading, they're easy to complete. Everything is open book.

His lectures and assignments required me to think critically about social problems, and gave me a strong advantage in future upper-level social equity classes. Extremely boring class. The textbook bored me to tears, and I barely read it even though you need to for this class. However, none of this at the fault of the teacher. If you were to take a sociology class, take it face-to-face. Basically all the questions for the exams can be found on quizlets... LOL the assignments are time consuming though.

In a nutshell, tons of work for very little points. After a couple of weeks, we didn't even hear from our professor. Grading was backed up at least 6 weeks of assignments. Then one day, a slew of grades came in and we were done. Weirdest class ever, could have bought the book and taught myself for free. Glad it's over.

I LOVED this class and learnedSO much. He assigned a chapter of reading a week along with an easy online quiz. Additionally, we had a short assignment every couple weeks. Only had one test and the final, which were both easy if you attend class and study a little bit. He is an easy grader on tests and the class is super interesting and informative!

The class consisted of 6 assignments, 6 quizzes, and 6 discussions. Most of this info came from reading 12 chapters (2 ch. per unit). The class is set up so you can work ahead, however the assignments can take a lot of time. I learned stuff, but the reading & assignments felt like forever. If I had to I would take him again, expectations clear!

Awesome Professor, he is not a tough grader and is very flexible. I've taken 204 and 205 with him. The 204 was a remote version in which his lectures were interesting. it is heavy on discussions and only four assignments thought the term no midterms, quizzes, or finals.

Easy class for the most part. In-class assignments every other week can't be made up, online discussions every couple weeks, a few essay tests. We have a discussion and assignment due every other week, which gives us PLENTY of time to do the textbook readings and really get into the information he's provided.
