doesn't give extra credits, has to read in-depth for his exams
Very passionate about the subject. The tests are hard. You will know the content, if you do well on the tests. Could use time more effectively, but overall good experience!

Even if you study extremely, you don't get the grades you deserve.
I took the DL course. Study exactly what he says to study on the reviews, and you'll walk away with a good grade.
Distance Learning Class, Get his video and go to review. You will then do well. If you study just the book you will not do well.
He is passionate about the subject and knows what he teaching. I did not buy the book and I got Bs on the test. Just come to class and take notes. You can use a page of notes on the test. He is funny and relates thing of today with his teachings.
Not the easiest class out there, but I wanted to learn US history and I got a full load of it. He knows his stuff cold and presents it with passion. If you are looking for a GE prolly not the easiest way to go, but if you are keen to learn then take him
One of my favorite teachers at De Anza. His exams are hard, and sometimes he comes late to classes (or doesn't show up at all.) But he makes the subject interesting. You really learn a lot from him. As for the exams, just go to the review sessions.
This class was very fun, and he taught it very good! I enjoyed it!
he sucks! his tests are extremely difficult and he doesn't give out any extra credit work. So it makes its hard to get an A.
Great Teacher. Class was easy and I actually remember stuff in that class. I'm taking him over for HIST 17C.
What a joke of a class. All of the tests given out were to be taken with a "partner" due to lack of copies of tests. The whole back row had the same exact answers the whole time, and didnt even care. Sometimes, he'd even walk out of the class al
Great teacher. He taught us a lot about Latin America. Have to study for the exams.Gave us the study guide for the exam. Showed very intersting movies. Gave help to the students with papers. Not at all boring. Planning to take other classes he teaches.
He is horrible! Never take him. He talks 90% of the time about some unrelated****. Impossible to understand what he is talking about. More than that---he is a **** and a freak.
don't take him! If you are--drop immedietly!
Excellent teacher. He has plenty of knowledge about Latin America. His exams are not bad. Gives you study guide. If you need help, just meet him after the class. You have to study and read the material.s If you don't understand something, he goe sover it. Take him. He is one of the best in De anza.
Great teacher. If you are committed to learning, he is there to help you. He is very knowledgable. His exams are little hard and you have to study. You learn a lot about Cuba from his personal experience. Great teacher. take him. Learn all bout our neighbours. He helps you with essays and exams too.
very nice guy, very helpful and resourceful. watches to many history movies though. the exams are hard and the book he assigns to read are very boring. if your last name start with any letter after N your screwed.
A really good teachers likes to help, and if your in class everday u wont fail the worst grade u can get is a C if you show up. shows a lot of movies and no homework ever. exams are not hard if you do the reading and study.
hes retarded and he doesnt have a clue what hes talking about
Very exciting. I hate history and he made it fun. His tests can be kinda hard, but he helps you out with getting an A. You do have to read a boring book, but I read only the first 5 pages and still passed the class with an A. He's very relaxed and care free about the essays you do. Great teacher!
Hes a lot of fun and sometimes inpersonates the person were reading about. hes test are tough and you watcha lot of movies..boring but educational. i dont remember him giving out hw, just sheets to study from. just read and study (like any other class) and youll pass! :)
DO NOT TAKE HIM!He is very unorganized and his lectures are all over the place--making taking notes very difficult.Tests are TOO HARD.He had to add 10 to 20% to 2 out of the 3 exams because not enough people passed.I did get a B in the class because of the two final papers, But I Dont recomend him!
Mujal, is the type of guy that jumps around in lectures, but he's not bad. O.H. he drops the lowest exam. His final essays are pretty lenghty.
MAN THIS MAN KNOWS HIS HISTORY YET HE GOES WAY OFF TOPIC SOMETIMES THIS QUARTER WE MISS ALOT CAUSE OF HIS WASTE OF TIME. THE FIRST EXAM WAS TOO LONG AND PRETTY HARD**** THAT WE DIDNT COVER. BUT HE DROPS UR LOWEST EXAM AN GIVES EXTRA POINTS TO UR EXAM. SHOWS ALOT OF VIDEOS. FOR THE SECOND EXAM HE GAVE MOST ANSWERS AND FINAL WAS VERY EASY TAKE HIM.
This guy knows what he's talking about and is very good at getting his point across (even if it takes an Off Topic analogy!). Drops lowest test and papers are easy, definitely recommend him! Got an A, no probs.
Very rarely does his lectures actually have to do with the class subject. Just read the book yourself, take notes (you're allowed to use one sheet for exams), do his essays, and you'll be fine. But don't count on him to teach you much.
You can't learn anything on that class in order to get a good grade. You need to help youself to get a A, but it's tough I can tell u. His test are super hard. too many question. not taught on class. go home read the book by your self. If you dont like to do that, choose another teacher. REALLY HARD To GET A!!!!!!
Great teacher.
Mr Mujal definitely knows his material, but does not always teach it in class. He is a fun professor and his classes are amusing. He helps out with exam questions in advance, because his exams are touch and a very unusual style of questions. He is a generous grader and makes you laugh in class.
Great leactures, generous grader, but if you want an A in the class, read the book twice...he gets off topic and doesn't always cover the material that is on the test. Tests are very long, so be ready for that.

he's a cool teacher... he doesn't check attendances.... you just need to read the book and show up during his exams...... he's funny and nice.....
I took his class on line. He is very good. You have to show up only 3times. He does not ask any questions on the movies. I di not even watch more than 2 movies. You just study the book and you get As. It is a very easy class. His exams are very easy. Take him. Good luck.
The man is a walking textbook. So skilled and knowledgable, yet, he does not overwhelm students. He relises that (in general) students find history to be boring. So he emphasized key concepts rather than facts/dates. More of a conceptual history class. Yet, he does not sugar coat and students feel as if they are getting the 'real'story.
Mr. Mujal is a nice guy. He lets you use your notes on tests. However, I wasn't too thrilled with his class. Instead of lecturing he showed videos almost every single day. I felt like I was wasting my time.
This guy is awesome.. he is soo knowledgable and isnt boring at all. However, the only downside i would say is that he showed us a lot of videos almost every day of the class towards the end of the quarter. His lectures are very easy to follow, although you might have to ask him to slow down a bit. Thats the only problem i had.
Great teacher. He actually knows what he is talking about and is one of the few teachers who don't make tests a "memorizing contest". All you have to do is read the Chapters and take good notes on the book and the lectures. Awesome guy :)
mujal is a great guy. he starts a topic and relates it to movies a lot. shows a video pretty much every week. missed most of classes, got c's and d's on exams, but still ended up w/ a b! he drops ur lowest grade on an exam. just do ur 2 essays he assigns for ur take home final!
He is the nicest teacher ever! He is very relaxed, and lectures from the book. He writes stuff on the board, so you can take good notes. He also allows notes on the tests, which makes the tests easy as long as you pay attention in class. He is very entertaining. He knows how to get the students attention.
great teacher. was always late, quirky attitude, tied a lot of movies into lectures. we had endless notes on the two tests we had for the summer, and he gave us the answers to half the test on the final! EASY CLASS, i have NOT had an easier teacher in college. EASIEST A EVER. just read the book 2-3x before the test and you're fine. seriously.
great teacher.
I took his 17B, super difficult to get A! There are over 60 in the beginning. Right now, only 20 left and half of them want to drop when teacher ask them on Thursday. Probably he change his style of grading. You may ask anyone from his 17B class to prove my words. I am 100% serious on my comments!!
Very laid back, you don't really even need to attend. All tests are multiple choice, open-note. Lots of videos, the handouts and class notes are very well organized. If you don't get an A, bottom line: you just never took the tests.
Lots of movies, no hw or attendance, just an essay and 4 tests (multiple choice). For the tests you just have to read the book or come to class, but DO study. I learned a lot of interesting stuff. He tells a lot of jokes and stories but hes good at explaining things and doesn't make you look stupid for asking questions
easy to attain a B, but hard to get an A! his tests are super hard unless you read. I don't think he's that good of a teacher. If you want a D, C, B...then get him, if not then chose someone else. haha
I got 90 & 99 for the tests, I know I did well in 2 final papers. Geuss what, he gave me B!!! He made my moods so bad in these holiday days. I am so pissed off & definitely need to talk to him. Classmates who took the class 1:30-3:30 in Tue. Thur. give me your opinion:[email protected]
This Cuban say lots of his personal opionions to US gov & politicians with little compliment. Never introduce core value of US but let you believe US is no greater than others. No recording allowed--avoid troulb 4 himself. Many tricky question in test -- 4 get you in trouble only. My & other's opinion: class is Garbage! I shoud drop him asap!
Pretty easy if you could understand his lectures and his writings, and you have to read a lot because the notes he gives out arnt very helpful! I didnt do good on the test, lectures werent very helpful and too fast but he does have a lot of videos. It's pretty easy, your baisically on your own.
Easy class. Tests are open notes. He drop the lowest ones. You only have to read 3 short novels and write 2 papers at the end. There's no final exam either.
****.......too lazy. He doesn't even point out students who have questions to him in class. Test are open-notes but super hard.
This class is crap. I withdrawed. Worst lectures ever. Totally devoid of structure, just digresses entire class time about his own opinions in regards to current events. Watch irrelevant videos. Might as well not come to class because you never learn anything. Tests are hard and cover material that was not presented in neither book nor lecture.
great teacher, interested in what he is talking about, lectures were interesting. tests are pretty easy if you read or pay attention in class, watch a lot of relevant videos to subject material, you should take this class, yes im talking to you.
in a tuesday thursday class. guy does get off track quite a bit during lecture. 3 quizes. read one book and write a 4pg essay on it, thats the final. quizes are open note. gave us first 30 answers on first test. show up, write down whatever you can gather from his "lecture", bring notes to quizes and your good. if you stick with it, EASY B.
Best professor ever. Sure his lectures may go off course, but I learn so much from them. I learn much more than I ever would from most other teachers. 3 tests, 2 final essays, thats it. Show up, if you want (no attendance records) and you'll be perfectly fine. Plus theres movies.
alot of work but you learn alot. mujal is scary smart, so his lectures are very interesting. 2 final research papers... 3 tests open notes. if you want a challenge take this class.
Interesting lecture with video, just two books required for his class. His test are very difficult, too ticky and a lot of things not related to his lectures. So hard that he don't even know all the answers of his exams!
3 exams all of which are open notes. He'll even add about 15 points to the exam. 2 essays due the day of final. But they are assigned in the beginning of the quarter. His lectures are sooo FREAKIN AMAZING... relates history into our future of whats about to come. Thats the only thing he goes off topic about. Take him. I took him twice. He so
Interesting teacher, you won't fall asleep in this class. However, can't say you will actually learn much American history without reading the book. He can go off onto long tangents before pulling back. Tests are odd but you'll do okay if you read the book. His political leanings are apparent. Tabloid-style references are irritating. Good luck
I thoroughly enjoyed this class, he's a good prof. The notes are a little unclear and the tests are pretty tough, but he adds like 20 points to improve your scores. There's two papers you have to write, one critical analysis of a book and the other on the Cold War. Even though it was a good class, he doesn't seem to give out too many A's.
I took the telacourse. You read 3-4 chps before each test. There are only 3 tests and the review videos from the media lab really helped!! Easy mult choice tests are easy if you remember what you read and watch the review tapes. Downside, a lot of reading.
Very interesting. Talked alot and sometimes talked too much so we dont take the quiz (but not boring talking). But alot of quiz's, but easy if you read chapter (all factual based) quite a few movies. If find out when quiz's are, dont need to attend.
Great Teacher. Easy class if you pay attention to the lectures. Lets you use notes on the tests so just take good notes and you will be fine.
He's a storyteller...talked in accents, yelled at the top of his lungs, fun to listen to. Went on tangents a lot, but they were interesting. Notes are unclear, scribbles all over the bored. 2 papers, 4pgs. ea. on a book, and then on a war. Gives 15 extra pts. on each of his 3 tests which are a little hard = Read your book and u'll do fine.
Carlos Mujal is one of the BEST professors at De Anza! He loves history and it comes through in his story telling lectures. He is CRAZY smart and he often does go on tangents, but they are VERY interesting and funny. His exams are open notes, and take home papers for final. Read the book for his review terms, take good notes, and you will be fine.
Cool guy with a really offbeat sense of humor. You won't be bored during his lectures. Take lots of notes from the reading (not the lectures, which are fun but don't give you as much info for the test) - tests are open-notes, but they can still be tough.
Mujal is a great teacher, the only downside of his class is that his tests are hard, really hard,if it wasnt for him boosting your grade one letter grade for every test, everyone would be screwed,i was really not looking forward to his class, but now that im done i realize what a great teacher he is, if you just want an easy A take Professor Kline
Carlos is a great teacher and he is fun in class and makes history enjoyable i very much recommend this reacher.
He is THE WORST teacher I've had. He gets far off topic. He's at least 10 minutes late to class every single day, expects you to stay after. The tests include material not in lecture or in the book.He talks about inappropriate things, says stuff that's not true and belittles students. Very disorganized and you suffer for it. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
Best History Teacher I Have Ever Had!
Okay, so he does get off topic, but he really makes the subject more of a dream than a snooze. He's hilarious, helpful, and informative. The tests are too hard in my opinion, but make sure to show up to class -- he'll give you some hints in the material review.
He is an alright teacher, he always goes off topic and can really make you fall asleep. You don't really need to go to class except for the week before a test. He gives you hints on the test but the majority of the test is hard. He's not very organized, so I think that's why he helps out with tests.
Prof. Mujal is awesome, he is si laid back! He does go off topic but that only makes the class even more interesting. He is hilarious and very informative, attendance is not mandatory and his exams and essays are super easy, He is one of the most laid back teacher at De Anza. Take him!
This guy is USELESS. He's incompetent, NOT funny, but he thinks he hilarious, and NEVER EVER ON TOPIC. 10 minutes late every day, never sticks to his own schedule, and won't let you make up quizzes. long story short, expect to be in class every day, never learn anything, and be tested on topics and info NEVER covered anywhere in the course. skiphi
He is a great teacher & has a diff.way of teaching. Whether it be simply lecturing off of his exams, to showing interesting videos, to telling interesting stories that usually gets everyone laughing or interested. I've taken 2 of his classes and redid one of them and loved it every time. Read the book and you'll do fine. OPEN NOTE EXAMS!
funny
DO NOT take this class. He talks about useless material that is not even on the test and the tests are extremely hard and thats why he allows open notes. What a waste of time . I learned nothing in this class. Take somebody else.
Avoid this professor at all costs. you will be saving yourself from all the mess.He is not cooperative at all in terms of making up exams and strictly follows the greensheet. I was taking this class online nad it was boring, no communication over webct and not helpful at all. does had only 40 mins of office hours in a week. c'mon give me a break!
Very helpful, understanding, willing to listen to the students. Top shelf teacher!
I took his class as a self study class. He has no communication with his students, only on test day. He does not offer a review class. Must read the book if you want to pass the test. They are kind of confusing.
I've taken Carlos's class a couple times at de anza college he is one of my favorite instructors great class love the way he teaches, he lets you use notes on tests plus he adds points and you have to do two papers, piece of cake if you fail this class then you dont belong in college.
mujal is really fascinating, his lectures are really easy to understand and he has a fun and interesting personality while teaching. I think one of my favorite teachers @ de anza. Take his mod. latin american history class
carlos is a fasinating teacher, i have had him for about 2x so far and willing to take another course with him. he acts out scenes from history, hes funny, you learn alot, and hes easy, any one complaining about carlos maybe got but hurt because he jokes alot w/students or didnt get that a n got a minus instead. very good teacher.
I signed up for his online summer course. Just as many others have noted, now from my own experience... he has absolutely HORRIBLE correspondence with his students! By "horrible", I mean zero; non-existent; he straight-up ignored every one of the emails I sent with questions or problems I had. I ended up dropping because I value my GPA.
i stayed for the summer online-should've dropped too. im scared. test is tonight. so far NO online comm. like reg. online classes. NO review b4 test. test covers ch's 1-5 and 6 video lessons. NO idea what to try to remember. NO test guides. Seems impossible to remember the whole book. i think i am effed in this course.i'll update after the test.
update from test: HARD.i studied, but i know i failed it. No notes were allowed. It appeared that in order to know what was on the test you had to watch Mujals review videos in the library-which is hard, i took online class cause its hard to go to school. a few ppl finished test fast, i have bad reading comprehension. test was very hard for me.
nice and very helpful!
I've taken 6 of his classes now so I know his style pretty well. I'd only rate 3 teachers, and Mujal is one of them. He is a GREAT teacher. His tests are easy, his lectures entertaining, and his movies fun. Attendance is not mandatory, and he's happy to help. Each class has about 3 multiple choice exams and an easy essay for the final.
if you fail this course than you dont belong in school. 3 tests, 2 essays. you can use notes, and he boosts ur grade by kicking in a few points for all your tests.
if hes such a bad teacher than why does his classes get filled every quarter on registration date while the other teachers are still open at double degits.
He is super easy! Doesn't care about attendence. His class consisted of a midterm, a final and an essay. You can use notes on the tests. He gave a study guide which had EXACTLY what you had to study/raed. He would also give us answers to the first 30 questions on every test! Lectures were entertaining and he was def not boring Take him for an A.
He is very knowledgeable, but can go off topic a lot during his lectures, and he's funny too. Will talk for hours on end if he could. His test were hard, and I didn't read the book once. I thought I was going to fail his class, ended up getting an A. Just go to the tests and write the papers and your set.
his class is a waste of time.
Mujal graduated from Berkeley with a PhD in history. He knows his stuff, is hilarious and laid back. He is way too easy however, so I hope he goes harder on students in the future. His exams are so easy the seriously should be illegal lol. I nevertheless learned a lot from the man and I liked taking his colonial latin american hist class.
He is a very smart and funny guy, and knows his stuff. The only assignments he ever assigned were 2 papers, which he tells you in the beginning of the quarter. As long as you take his notes, especially his review days, you should pass easily.
Perhaps one of the BEST history lecture prof's (IMO) in De Anza. Let's just say he knows it all. Tests are easy, just take notes and you're in the go for an A. Notes for test are acceptable.
Mujal's lectures were kind of entertaining. They did not take place everyday though. Sometimes he would just show films for the whole class for a couple of days. He did a lot of last minute lecturing, just in time for the test. The material that was discussed in class was barely on the test. His tests were extremely tricky.
3 exams (scantron). take home final (basically just an essay). Book report due at day of final. allows notes on tests, also reviews for a day or two before each test. usually came late to class. gets off track, but not too bad. Says some pretty funny stuff. all in all, good lectures, easy tests, doesnt play favs, is pretty clear.
He always comes to class 10-13 minutes late, talks about non-related things, goes off topic way too much, "teaches" at the last 20 minutes of class, and keeps the class after the class time because he came late, so he feels the need to waste our time to make up his. Just read the book and take notes because his lectures don't always relate to chapt
3 tests (mult choice), take home final essay, and a book report due during finals week. The goal in passing his class with an A is to type A LOT of IMPORTANT notes on your computer/laptop and print them out for the test (open notes test). He gives a lot of questions for a 50 min or 1 hour and 40 min class which is ridiculous.
This quote from him says it all, "some of the questions on the test weren't in the book, but from my lectures." First off, he is very unorganized and ALWAYS ask the class "where did we leave off last time?" and not to mention he goes off topic too much. How can we do well on the test when he doesn't remember which order to go in?
Took his online classes, both 17A & B. Basically, this is all you- meaning, you reading, you retain the information, and you bring your A-game during the tests. There are no papers, quizzes, or extra credit. If you're good at working on your own, I'd highly recommend this class. Nice guy, but he's not going to hold your hand. 3 tests = your grade.
This guy comes to class 10-15 minutes late constantly(which is just terrible if you have a 50 minute class..) with his bike and he looks baked while he's riding it. As for wits Mujal has them, but is quite unstructured. He doesn't follow his syllabus at all, which could be a good or bad thing. Study at home and you can pass.
I took all of Mujal's history courses. Like someone else previously stated, he has his Ph.D in History From UC Berkeley. Children who just got out of High School come in take his class and act like their at Harvard when his history is legit, yes he does come in late but oh well. This is as easy as it gets for getting your GE grade.
I took his distant learning class and it was so hard. I studied and watched the videos and still only got a C because he graded strictly on all your test scores. The good thing is, he graded on a curve so probably would have failed it otherwise. Good instructor...knows his stuff!
BORING! HIS NOTES ARE IMPOSSIBLE IF YOU ARE USING A LAPTOP. HE SCRIBBLES ALL OVER THE BOARD. HIS NOTES ARE PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT EASIER IF YOU HAVE A PEN AND PAPER. HIS TEST ARE EASY IF YOU PAY ATTENTION. DONT BUY THE BOOK I NEVER USED IT. ONLY WENT TO CLASS FOR TEST, NEVER USED THE BOOK AND I GOT A C. SO JUDGE FOR YOURSELF.
BORING class. he doesnt care if you dont show up to class. all you do is watch videos. his lectures are useless and inconsistent. you have a quiz every week
Mujal is a great guy. He wants his students to do well in his class. Yea, he comes late but he loves teaching history and it's fun to come every day. Plus if you take notes carefully you will ace the tests. Open note tests and multiple choice final
SUPER cool dude! gives out study guides that contain everything you need to know for the exams. 3 exams - which he curves VERY generously. you would have to be a stupid idiot not to pass this class with a GREAT grade. one book analysis which is not so bad with the info sheet he gives, and one final essay which is EASY. TAKE HIM YOU WONT REGRET IT!
He is very easy, gets off topic quickly. But in general you will learn something and if you dont pass then I dont know what to tell you. He makes it fool proof. Im taking him again.
He likes to talk about conspiracy theories and wastes lots of time. He ALWAYS comes to class late even when he is already on campus. He tends to get off topic. Sometimes lectures about irrelevant things. He is a chill teacher but does not lecture much. He likes to show movies which are MUCH better than his lectures.
He doesn't take attendance but sometimes his quizzes are based on information you learn from the prior week. He's not the easiest teacher but teaches concepts clearly (when he actually talks about them) The majority of what you actually learn in class may not be on the quiz at all. For the final we had to read a terrible book and do an analysis.
I got an A but I have learned nothing from his class. 1) ALWAYS late (he even straight up told us that he will be late b/c he doesn't like morning classes). 2) 5 times no-call no-show. 3) exams are open notes & gives out answers to half of it prior to the exam. 4) always unprepared for class. -- so it would depend on how you value your education.
Great teacher, tends to ramble a lot but you can tell he loves what he's teaching. Yes he allows notes on the test and even will gie you the answers to a majority of the test on the review date, but it's deffinitely worth going to class to listen to the lectures. Very entertining.
I took the online version of this class. Book is not helpful and loaded with a lot of information, he grades on only mid-term, final and book homework. Not helpful professor either. I emailed him concerened for my grade (I DID study all quarter/all reading done) I never got a response from him at all. Waist of time and money!
I'm taking 2 of his classes and I really enjoy his class. He does have us watch movies frequently but if you go to the in class review and add notes to the study guide you should do fine.
Carlos is one of the most intelligent professors I have had. He makes history fun and relevant. Listen and you will learn about more than history.
super duper easy A and nice! i took his off campus class and there were only 3 open notes tests and 1 take home midterm plus 1 take home final. really enjoy the lectures cause we were just sitting in the cinema watching videos.
Nice guy, rambles sometimes only to make his point he's trying to get across interesting. Not very organized with class structure until the day before exams then suddenly you learn a lot. You get to watch videos, open book exams, 1 essay on book
Easy teacher, attendance not mandatory, just do the reading & show up on quiz days. 1 quiz every week, your final is 2 essays (each 4 pages) One is a critic on a horrible book. He's pretty funny but people don't show up to class because it's kind of useless since the quizzes are based on the chapters from the California book.
I took as many classes as I could with him. He is hilarious, gets off topic every now and then but who doesn't? The class is really what YOU make of it. If you go to clas, take good notes you'll do great in the class. Final is a take home essay (pretty easy final). You also have to do a book review, but that is easy. I HIGHLY recommend him!!
He is the most interesting professor I ever had in my life. In his class you will learn some life-relevant material not a whole bunch or educational BS. If you want to learn about history and have fun than take his class.
Cool guy but horrible as a teacher!!! Completely goes off topic, notes are scattered and oral. You need to write down everything he says even if its unrelated. His class is completely self study with 3 midterms, 2 essays, and an essay format final. Tests are open notes but that doesn't mean an easy A
Easy class if you just do the reading and show up on quiz days. Make sure you read the stupid book Ramona too, its part of your final.
I am signed up to take a 3rd class with him. He goes off topic a lot, but has interesting things to say. Tests are open notes, so if you go to class everyday and take notes you should be set. For one of his classes I did have to read the textbook but for the 2nd one. The essays at the end are a pain, but overall a very easy class and you will learn
A Freaking ridiculous class with a non-responsible teacher. He basically talk about random things in classes and expect you to read/memorized every little things in the book. Never answer questions. Cancel class often lay. No repel on email. Exams are hard and all based on textbook coz the notes are useless. Not a professor but just a test giver.
Great Professor! He teaches in a different way that will make you listen & understand. He does go off topic from time to time but why not? It helps keeps you awake for the whole class. He likes playing videos and tests are open notes, take home final, and two essays on two books you're supposed to read. Easy class if you are not majoring in History
If you need to take a class for the sake of GE's, take this one. It's extremely easy. He knows he doesn't prepare his students well during "lectures" so many times before the test, he will give away half of his questions on the test. Got to use notes, too. Didn't take anything from it, though. . .
Mujal's class is very straight forward given you do the work. Read one chapter a week (seriously, ONE chapter, how easier can it get?) from both books. That's it! Then my advice is to outline the chapters from the textbook because the tests are ALL based on the book. Nothing tricky about them. Read the book, study, get an A. Easy!
Excellent instructor who really makes his class interesting. This man has forgotten more about history than most people ever knew. Recommended.
lol this class was a joke, just like him. True or false? dfjdskdfjd <--- actual test question.
Even if you take the class online, you have to go on campus to take the three exams. Also the book with code is more than $100. The tough multiply choice.Don't take his online class.
Terrible
I learned nothing in this class. He goes off into a lot of tangents not even related to the topic he's teaching. He's a funny/chill guy, but he sucks at teaching. You basically have to rely on reading the textbook if you want to get anywhere in this class.
Very knowledgeable professor who keeps class and lectures very interesting. A bit unorganized and does not cover all material in class. It is necessary to get the textbook and read every chapter that will be on test. Questions on test will be from textbook. Gives study guides for each test and open note tests.
Definitely take this class if you need to get your history req. out of the way. He is a little unorganized but the tests are open notes. There are 3 exams, 1 report on Uncle Tom's Cabin, and a written final. I highly recommend this class.
He is knowlegable in what he teaches. Attend class to take notes. Final consists of two essays. If you are interetes in this class, he is definitely an easy teacher. If you are not, you will still do fairly well in his class.
Excellent historian and teacher, another of De Anza's top teachers. Class is very entertaining and detailed. This school has a pretty good history department. Attend, take real good notes and tests will be easy. Recommended.
Usual sort of online class. Read the chapters and take the online quizzes. Two proctored tests on campus. If you can't learn by reading... don't take the class online. Prof Mujal answers emails if you have any problems... but mainly you are learning History through the textbook's online class rather from Prof Mujal. Doesn't use Catalyst at all
classes get cancelled often which is legit. but continues at the same teaching speed like we didn't miss any of the material of the course. Tests have nothing to do with the notes he gives us.
My favorite teacher! Love his class & it was pretty easy. Going to take him for US HISTORY!
JUST need to take textbook notes and read the reading to pass. Show up for the first week of course, but really after you'll realize it'd be pointless. He sometimes goes off-topic, but relates hist to funny things today making it easier to get it. But he just talks about what you need to take notes on. Doesn't email updates so show up sometimes.
Class is easy. We really didn't us the textbook but we used the the small reading books. We had 3 test and a final consisted of two papers(EASY). Test are OPEN NOTES, OPEN NOTES from the class notes taken so that means no textbook can be used!!! Reviewed for each test every time.
He is a good teacher, and shows us many films. Lectures a lot (sometimes goes off topic). Is very strict about test-taking policies (ie. if some people use their phones on a OPEN NOTE test he makes future tests CLOSED NOTE!! In any class you SHOULD NOT try to use resources you are not supposed to use on the test!! Checks attendance sometimes
Professor Mujal is a very smart and intelligent person, but when it comes to class lecturing it is often off topic. If you ask for help he will give it to you but you need to be willing to put in the time and the effort into studying on your own to pass.
He's a great guy; not perfect, but his pros outweigh the cons. He knows his stuff super well. His lectures are bound to go off-topic, but for me they were pretty interesting and fun to listen to. His test questions come mostly from lecture but you have to read to know everything. (Notes are a must) Test questions are critical thinking. -Recommend-
He will cancel class on you a lot even if it's on the same week of an exam. He does /not/ let you use open notes for any of his exams anymore. He only gives make ups if you miss an exam and is aware of cheaters. His lectures are long and sometimes go off topic. He's not helpful as his lectures do not correspond to the actual exams.
I took the MTWTh class which only has 1 hr lectures. He'd spend 20-45 minutes speaking off topic every day! If you want to get a decent grade on tests or quizez don't expect to get the information from his lectures. Read read read, and take notes on what you read, as he allows the use of notes on tests.
He goes off on a tangent a lot and frequently cancels class. The information on the test are 90% from the textbook and 10% from his lectures, just read the textbook and take notes since its open notes on tests. Good luck.
Gets a bad rep His lectures and tangents have small bits of info and analogies that you need to understand in order to pass. A lot of movies and two papers at the end.. TAKE NOTES FROM BOOK AND PAY ATTENTION READ BOTH BOOKS!!
ONLINE CLASS: There were only two tests for the entire quarter, and the questions on the tests did not pertain to the info from the textbook. This class was disappointing, and I love learning about history, so that says a lot. Also, the website for the class (separate from textbook) isn't even made by him and he makes you pay for it. AVOID TAKING!
HIS CLASS IS SUPER HARD. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST. I SPEND 8 HR A WEEK ON READING AND TAKING NOTES FROM HIS MATERIALS. WASTE MONEY AND TIME.
His test is super hard. Not even in the textbooks. Waste of time. His book is hilarious. You learn nothing from his class.
He is silly. The class is tough. Tests are super hard. Please kill me. Hurt your GPA
Nope. Find a different professor. In a 50 min class, he rants about something off topic for 20-30 minutes. Barley prepares you for the exams, and the exams cover almost nothing that he lectures on. Read the textbook like crazy, but you really don't need to go to class because he barley teaches.
He rants about stuff unrelated to the exams for over half of each class. Be sure you read the textbook. His tests are hard if you've read nothing because his lectures often don't cover what's on the exam. If you read the book, you should be okay. He often boosts up everyone's test grade, so shoot for a C on the tests and you should get a B.
Tests are super hard. Learn nothing from this class. Ruin your GPA.
Textbook is essential, lectures unreliable. When Prof. Mujal is not in the mood to lecture, he'll play movies or cancel class; when he is, his examples are hilarious and memorable, though at times irrelevant to class. Exams are tricky and biased, but open notes. 2 critical essays in addition. No feedback, no connection to students, I expected more
He is an awesome wise Professor. His lectures are rarely about the actual class material. However his teachings do serve some value to life in general, in other words, he goes off topic 80% of the time but it is always something interesting that is worth listening to. 3 tests, 2 essays. Reading and self-teach is required pretty much.
HIS ONLINE CLASS IS SO EASY AND THIS IS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T REALLY STUDY AT ALL TWO TESTS AND YOU HAVE TO GET 100% ON THE HW BC YOU JUST KEEP GOING AND ONLY TWO TESTS WHICH ARE EASY TOO
Several open note quizzes, a book review, and a final. I would read the chapter & take careful notes, but the quiz questions were on stuff that I don't remember reading or taking notes on. The 10 question quizzes are about 15 minutes. Overall I had to drop with a W. His lecture style is writing keywords on the board, so take notes on what he says.
Carlos has a horrible lecture. Completely Inaudible and unorganized. His final is a paper with the topic given 2 or 3 weeks before dead week. It is never brought up again. Tests are easy as Cake. Literally. Beware of his hidden paper assignment thats due at the end of the quarter about a book that is never brought up or talked about at all
First thing, there are two VERY important papers due at the end of the quarter making up 40% of your grade. Besides that, his test are easy so long as you pay attention to his lectures. He has notes posted on the board so be sure to take a picture whenever you can and study from it. But again, the hardest part about the class was the papers.
Super entertaining dude, recommend if you aren't normal that interested in history because he makes it very interesting. If you read the text and take lecture notes you will do absolutely fine in the class. He is pretty understanding and seems to genuinely care about his students. He can be a little bit disorganized but it doesn't affect anything.
My favorite teacher ever. FINALLY a teacher that isn't brainwashing us. He provides BOTH side's views in terms of politics. The people that say his class is hard probably don't go. His tests are literally straight from his lectures. Even when he goes off topic, if you are really listening, it connects. He is such a kind guy and I just love him
All work is multiple choice or match, which is alright. You do have to read the assignments to get a good grade. My problem was the professor. I message him 5 times at different points, none were answered. For our midterm, the date was shown but the assignment show up on the website. I had to call the website and figure it out myself.
Took 17C, Never liked History but he made it interesting and relatable.
Latin American history is a subject I always wanted to take. The instructor got in-depth with the stuff but he also made it interesting and related it to the world we live in. I would seriously recommend him to others. he made sure to cover all the material we were tested on, which I appreciated.
Took him for History 17C. It was not an on line course. He really knew his material and made it interesting. It was the first history class I really enjoyed. I also appreciated his feedback and the fact that he cared. The tests were not too hard.
honestly just a great teacher who is very knowledgable on what he is teaching! would highly reccomend!
He was a great lecturer and makes sure you know where the grades are coming from. Could be better at responding to e-mails, but I really liked the assignments and the way he looks at history. I learned more in this class than any other history class I have taken. No disappointments here.
Took an on-campus class from him. No regrets. Syllabus was clear and I knew what I needed to do to get an A - which I got. he is very helpful but the best time to speak with him is right after class if you need help on what the next exam is going to be like. He cares about what he teaches and takes the time to make sure you know the material
Had a hard time at first but once I got into the rhythm of the class , it was one of the best classes I have taken. Sometimes he gets off topic but he brings it back to what he was lecturin on and what we were reading. I would definitely recommend him. Just make sure to do the readings and turn in the last two essays on time.
Lectures are awesome, Test are recycled. I promise you wont regret taking his class. hes a very intellegent professor and youll even learn a little bit extra about society.
He is a good professor, I like his lecture style! Kind of free in his class. Sometimes he talks too much on one topic but it's interesting.
The most underrated teacher. Professor Mujal made every class enjoyable and interesting. His grading format was clear and his knowledge for the subject seems to be never ending. Id recommend him for everyone in need of taking a history course or interested in the subject.
Take this class if you just need your credits and don't care to learn. The homework is comparable to the worksheets we used to get in middle school history classes. Never communicated with him during the course and didn't really need to. Everything is self-explanatory.
He gave us no syllabus for the class and didn't tell us the time for the first exam. He only mentioned the second exam less than 24 hours before it was assigned. The homework was easy to get done. What is unacceptable, is not telling your students about the upcoming exam times. I missed the first exam because of his lack of communication.
Hell teach by lecture, but will often show a video if he doesnt take up the time talking too much. Take notes on lectures and book and test are easy. Will say he often relates things to now so if you arent really listening it will sound like he is just going off topic. You should get an A! The only way to fail is by actively choosing to!
I took his online class and it was lots of reading and so many quizzes than any class in my life. This teacher uses launchpad in which you need to pay to get access to, you also need time management to be able read all the sections PLUS the quiz for each chapter. I take on full time school and work but his class is no fun and not much communication
Prof. Mujal gives great lectures and has a passion for history, the course is very easy and he doesn't expect students to be experts. Grades are based mostly on two essays and quizzes from each chapter of the assigned textbook. Quizzes are open note so receiving an A on a quiz is pretty easy and he's an easy grader on the essays.
Dr. Mujal makes history fun to learn because he relates the past to the present. Although he can be excessively tangential, the work is not difficult and the lectures present the information in an albeit semi-disorganized but appropriate manner. He has very clear grading criteria and the work is all reading. You have to read and take notes to pass.
Solid choice for any of his History classes. This is college, stop moaning about reading but for real though it helps with understanding his lectures. Show up to class, take notes, read and it's a solid A for tests/essays. Gives you life and history lessons.
Super entertaining teacher. Spends entire period speaking or showing videos. Just take notes during class, and you'll be great! Notes are allowed on the tests. Only 3 tests and 2 papers. The papers are due on finals' day. He gives you plenty of time to get started on the papers from home. He's very responsive to questions during lectures.
Carlos Mujal is a very educated man with a passion for history that is unbelievably impressive. Unfortunately, my experience with this professor was not the greatest and I've been attending DA for over 2 years now. I would have to say that Mujal's course is very lecture heavy and quick to move on to the next topic. no homework whatsoever, only test
Carlos Mujal is a knowledgeable professor for sure. But, he doesn't care about the students AT ALL, he never answers the emails, and there are not extra credits. The most difficult part are the two tests, 110 questions that you must complete in 120 minutes!!!! take him at your own risks. I would definitely never take him again.
Cool guy, fun lectures, but really hard to approach and ask questions for. Although your grade is skewed towards tests, he remembers who shows up for class regularly, so keep that in mind. Tests are heavily based on his lectures, so try to follow along if you can. He goes off on tangents a lot.
If you want an easy A take him but if you actually want to learn, look for another prof. basically u just need to buy a launchpad and do all the work that u can find the answers on quizlet. Prof doesn't even bother teaching.
Uses a completely different points system from the one described on the Launchpad website we were doing our online course from. Makes it very confusing when trying ti figure out your grade. An 83% on the website (B) converts into a 77% (C) when using his system. Go figure.
You have to purchase the textbook and all of the work is done through Macmillan learning. He teaches you absolutely nothing and only gives a "study guide" a couple days before each test. Also, he has his own way of grading everything, so the grade you see on your Macmillan profile is not your real grade. I got over 90% overall and he gave me a B.
I took this history class and I do not regret it at all! Im a student that likes to learn at my own pace so if you are too then this is the class for you! There are no zoom meetings. He does assign a lot of assignments on Macmillan learning but theyre easy! I did all of them in two days. Exams are easy as well! Easy A if you do the work.
He's great if you just need a good grade for the class. You need to buy a textbook which includes an online platform, where you would be doing quizzes and tests, 1 midterm and final, all MCQs, no papers. You read chapters and do some quizzes, if you are a history major maybe it's best to find another professor.
Took his class online this quarter and he doesnt care at all about his students. I emailed him many times and he replied twice with one sentence replies not even answering my questions. He doesnt teach at all and requires us to buy some expensive textbook online with trick questions. The tests are worth a lot and they are so hard. Dont take him!
Take this class if you want zero professor interaction. A lot of people fail this class because of the weight put on the two tests - 67% of your grade. Whereas they are multiple choice, a normal human would not deduce a majority of what they are asking without reading the text multiple times and then applying what you think is the answer. Avoid.
This professor doesn't have zoom meetings. Instead, he uses software for the textbook and to create assignments and quizzes. He only has 2 exams throughout the whole semester.
I would not recommend this professor. This class was full of reading and stress. I never saw the professor which made the class self-taught. So many notes, reading for hours, and quizzes. There were also big tests with about 140 questions and had to complete in 120 minutes which made it pretty stressful.
He throws trick questions on the exams. He has questions that will ask about a picture or an essay but the picture or the essay wont be there. On the first exam got 130 questions to do in 120 minutes. That's kind of nutty. He doesn't care about any of the students! One of the worst instructor's I have ever had for anything!
Before enrolling in this class, the reviews scared meyou will do fine in this class (i.e > 95%) if you read the textbook and have notes READY. There are two tests; both sort of time crunches but definitely doable. If you take notes, copy WORD FOR WORD. If it helps, copy-paste sections of the book in your notes. Overall, just be prepared! :D
He is the real deal. No essays are required. 1/3 of your grade is from assignments and quizzes (all MCQ). 1/3 of your grade is from the 2 tests (all MCQ). Most of the test questions are from the assignments and quizzes. NO FINAL EXAM. 1/3 of your grade depends on the professor. Just read the textbooks from MacMillian and take notes. Easy A.
The exam times were highly inconvenient (8-10pm) and 140 questions long. He has absolutely zero flexibility when it comes to these exams. Crazy. We have lives and work. Why not just leave the exam open for the whole day so we can complete it when we have time? Another lazy professor leeching and collecting checks from DA. He needs to get a grip.
2 140 questions exam to be done in 2 hrs (8-10pm). A little inconvenient time for exams but all assignments are done on Macmillan which means they are available from the very first day of class. I was able to do evrything in the first weeks of the quarter & just waited for the exams. Easy class for gen ed. You want more engagement, pick diff prof.
Professor Mujal's 17C class is tough, but manageable with focus. Exams are long and timed, but the material is straightforward if you consistently engage with the textbook and notes. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for exam prep!
Crazy guy. 2h for 140 MCQ
Organize your time as you'll be reading a lot and completing assignments via MacMillian. 2 hr exams for 140 questions midterm and 115 question final exam in the late evening. Would've gotten a higher grade if I done the work earlier, otherwise a great professor who challenges you, definitely will be taking again for other history courses.
this class was good imo. PROS - homework assignments are just there plain and sample can pretty much get them done a few days. you can find all the answers on quizlet your welcome people. CONS - there's 2 exams (Midterm and Final) that are 140-144 questions from 8PM-10PM on day of exam. but yeah if you just want an easy A, hop on board
HWs were easy, Exams were long and tiring, 115-135 MCQ and went for two hours. Prof had one of two exams on Halloween night (8-10 pm) and refused to accommodate a different time. Yes, this was listed in the syllabus, but not all of us had a choice for this class. It's all self-taught through Acheive which costs about $50. Only take if you have to.
Doesn't care about students, will not email you back, the course is set up so exam 1 and 2 are each 1/3 of your grade and the other third is course work. TAKE THE EXAMS!!!! If you miss one of them automatic fail as you cannot retake and the test just disappears after in achieve. other than that easy course just not a cooperative professor
This guy is goated
Relatively easy class to get the grade you want but it all relies on doing the work. The exams are pretty much like the questions from homework and he is a very kind professor. Only thing not really graded till last minute are the discussion posts but even then they are not heavily criticized either.
