really nice teacher. has a lot of knowledge in mexican culture and doesnt mind sharing. very understanding and helpful. he will make you work for your grade, however. just take good notes and the class goes by fast
connects well with students, uses a variety of teaching styles, and is very thorough!
Awesome teacher. Tests easy to study for, very helpful, overall good class.

AMAZING teacher. If I had to take the class over again, I definitely would. He is very helpful and very sarcastic. If you are sensitive then he is not the teacher for you. He jokes around a lot and makes class a lot of fun!!! I definitely recomend Carlos.
He is very good and fun!
He's awesome and sweet. He makes learning fun and never gives a lot of homework. When he gives quizes he always gives you an idea of what will be on there, that way your prepared. He's a charming teacher that anyone would like.
carlos is a really good teacher. i enjoyed the class a lot. he's funny, smart, and friendly. he'll help you out if you have any problems. there were two presentations (1 group and 1 individual), three chapter tests, and six quizzes. easy A if you study.
he is a very good professor, but do not get on his bad side because you can never come back... so if you never have any personal problems that might come up.. you will dod fine, but do not I repeat do not miss a class or make him mad
He's a really cool uy for the most part. I had a misunderstanding on one absence that almost became an issue but the class was easy enough that it's impact on my grade was minimal. He grades pretty fairly, especially on homework and a lot of his projects are really laid back. I got an A on a fast track class, and would take another of his courses.
I took him for 102 & 201. I wish that more spanish was spoken in class for practice. That would have made a huge difference in 201. He is an easygoing and helpful teacher and if you show up and do the work you will get an A. Take his class but dont advantage of his niceness cause he can get irritated and he never forgets! Class games were no bueno!
He is AMAZING! Super willing to work with you on anything...communication is key!
Great teacher. Makes the class fun. He is very helpful, passionate and eager to help students who are trying ...He really cares and you can tell. He always makes time for you if you need it. Do the homework, pay attention and you will get a good grade.
Pedroza is a great prof. Spanish can be difficult but he is very clear about his expectations and class is fun. In addition, I appreciated his experiences and knowledge of the world outside learning a language. He truly enjoys his job which makes the class even better.
Great teacher! Very helpful and wants to make sure everyone learns not only the language but the culture too. Class was loosely formated and fun. Lots of group work. Tells you what's on exams and quizzes. I recommend him to anyone
Took the class over the summer and had the time of my life. I was very sad when it was over. The class had a very relaxed atmosphere. Learning the material was easy and fun. Plus he includes a lot of cultural info in the lessons beyond just the language. 1 oral presentation (you can make a video) and 1 paper (can be related to oral presentation).
Awesome teacher! He's hilarious and always knows how to keep it interesting. He tells you specifically everything that will be on the test so if you pay attention in class and study you will have no problem getting at least a B. Take him! He's a great teacher!
easy class... if you get less that a B then its your fault a lot of Home work, expected and two presentations all doable.... I'll miss the class it was fun and laid back
Take him! He is the BEST spanish professor i've had. He is so willing to work with you, he is easy to talk to if you're having trouble, and he has long office hours. He uses the book a lot which is nice he also uses powerpoint so you can get his lectures at home. At any rate, take him if you want to learn Spanish WELL.
These hybrid classes are the best. Pedroza is a great teacher so the class seems easy. The only bad part of this class is the group project. My last assignment group ended up being spread out from Temecula to the Border, they never answered emails on time,I've twice ended up carrying the load for most of the group, next term I'll just take the 0
Professor Pedroza is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's extremely nice and really funny! I was obsessed with his class and it was the only class I looked forward to going to. His class is pretty easy if you keep up with the material and he's a fair grader! Definitely take his class if you want to learn Spanish and have fun in class. :)
Pedroza is the best. There is a lot o homework but it is pretty easy points (all online). He is funny and easy going. There's a quiz every week on previous stuff and 4 tests a semester that arent very hard at all. He tells you what to expect. Two presentations but you dont have to memorize them which is nice. Im going to take him for my next 2 sem.
Took the one month hybrid course. Two classes a week with 2 quizzes a day, a group presentation, mid term and final. Quizzes are of chapter spelling words, true false questions on Cultura and grammar from one of the subunits. I would have made a better grade if I took the semester long class and not this crash course.
Pedroza is a WONDERFUL professor. He is super helpful and organized. Makes it easy to participate and is very laid back. I took 102 and 201 this semester (fast track) and received an A in both classes. We had quizzes each class meeting (twice a week) one of which was a group quiz. I would highly recommend Pedroza. Great, great professor.
BEST Spanish teacher I've ever had. He makes you feel VERY comfortable & not afraid to speak up in class. Super nice, explains lessons clearly, gets you interested in what you're learning about. A LOT of online homework, quizzes every week, tests, and a group presentation. I may not be fluent in Spanish but at least I got the GE requirement!
Took 102, 201, 202 with him. Took 102 and 201 during the summer, these had lots of hwk. 201= review of 102 and 201 had 1/3 the hwk. He likes to test your knowledge, lots of quizzes and exams but he tells you what's in them. He's a modern but solid approach to the language. His own created videos are a great addition. One applied Professor!
I took him over the summer 4 week course for both 102 201. Let me warn you, the work load is intense but definitely do-able You cannot procrastinate His lectures are always interesting and fun Take him
I really enjoy this class. still have him for 202. It totally helps that he makes everyone feel comfortable and has all the students interact with each other for activities and class projects. He makes the class fun and understandable, and if you ever need help he is always able to help you in class or during his office hours, and emails are good!
Hybrid online course, online system was confusing. Students would do the online homework together just so we could try to understand the questions. Same with Pedroza's tests, the final was confusing and I studied very diligently, expecting to ace the final, but I didn't understand some of the questions. I've been a straight A student but got a B.
I took the Hybrid fast track class and he was out for a back surgery half way through. I did not realize how bad this class was until we had a substitute teacher and everything was much more clear. The homework on VHLcentral is horrible. And when Pedroza teaches I feel like I am taking more of a hispanic culture class.
I took professor Pedroza for 102 and 201. (both hybrid) Pros: Grades pretty fairly, quizzes and exams are not that hard, and offers extra help to anyone who needs it. Cons: There is a bunch of homework every week, does not give extra credit and does not put any type of study guide before an exam.
DO THE VHL! Show up pay attention and just study for the quizzes.
Hybrid course, which I don't understand why they even offer? Wow, we all learned Spanish in 4 weeks, um no. However, at least we can check it off. If you study the vocab and structure, you should do well in the course. Compared to my other teachers, he assigns a great deal of busy work because he is trying to immerse you in the culture .
Professor is upbeat and promotes class participation which in turn helps to learn material better. Very kind to his students.
I loved this class! Yes, there is a lot of online work, but I enjoyed the VHL central a lot. I felt like I was truly immersed, and I could play the videos over and over, which was super helpful for me. Just dedicate yourself a bit each night to doing the work, and you will be fine.
AMAZING. super laid back. if you study the vocab and grammar, you are golden. a couple projects, very easy to get an A on. ONLINE hw! don't forget to do it, very easy, the activities you do in class are often same as hw. be social, it makes the class way more fun!
Such a fun class!!! I highly recommend Prof. Pedroza to anyone needing any Spanish class.
Good professor. Attendance is important but he is understanding to a certain degree. Participation is huge . Be ready to speak in front of the class a lot and give presentations. Also a lot of group projects. He definitely makes the class fun and is kinda funny.
Professor Pedroza , is a great teacher. He's funny and welcoming to the class, pretty lay back but you better do the Homework, watch the videos and take notes from them because he reviews the material in class, overall great teacher!
I had tried to take Spanish several times at different colleges and was quickly intimidated and overwhelmed. Professor Pedroza quickly makes you feel at ease and gives you all you need to learn. Attendance is required and participation. I highly recommend him and his Spanish learning class on TV. I took three classes from him.
Prof. Pedroza is incredible!!! He is so funny and such a sweet teacher. He is willing to work with you if you work hard and show that you care. I recommend taking him for any Spanish class. He made it easy. He is honestly so cool! Take him!! BEST TEACHER EVER!
Span 101A & B. Good teacher. You watch video lectures mainly (he co-hosts) which are fun to watch, very engaging. Quizzes every class meeting but nothing surprising is ever on them. WATCH OUT for the supersite HW, due dates sneak up real quick. 1 skit for A&B, but they are very easy. He makes the class environment very relaxing. Would recommend!!
I took the 4 week hybrid summer class. It meets twice a week for 5 hours each period. VERY long class periods which can be very draining. There are quizzes each class, an immense amount of homework each week, a group presentation, and two exams. Its a LOT crammed into a short amount of time so prepare to make this class your life for the 4 weeks.
I took this class hoping to learn but instead it turned into not wanting to even show up. The class was fairly easy if you can handle pop up test, hours of lectures, and daily homework. If you show up late don't bother as he will fail you. There are many options to go but online class would be a lot better of a route.
One of my favorite classes, I love a teacher that can make spanish fun! As usual to all other spanish classes there was a ton of homework. I took a 6 week hybrid class and I spent around 16 hours on homework. 1 easy group presentation and weekly quizzes that are easy if you study.
I showed up late at times due to the construction going on and was often being asked to apologize to the class or threatened to be kicked out along with others. He has a good amount of homework and lab work. I believe 16 hours on the computer. Lecture during class a bit boring but some of the videos shown are nice.
This professor does not care about his students at all. Tried emailing him with questions, and he never responded to any of my emails. If you are late even ONE TIME, he threatens to drop you out of the class in front of everyone. He gives a lot of homework and quizzes everyday, but he doesn't teach the material thoroughly.
if you care about your grade, you shouldn't take this class. I was getting ready to transfer to a university, and this class ruined my GPA.
I was so excited for this class because i was genuinely interested in learning Spanish. But honestly, this class was a horrible experience. Professor Pedroza doesn't have much sympathy for his students, and there wasn't much of a learning structure in his class. You pretty much have to teach yourself the material.
Wish I had good things to say about this professor... just a horrible experience.
This professor is super fast paced. If this is your first spanish class, i recommend avoiding him at all costs because you will fail. He gets very annoyed if someone interrupts his lecture to ask a question during class. He expects you to know spanish fluently, even though its just a class for beginners.
I think this was the hardest class I have taken. Not because the material was hard, but because the teacher didn't teach ANY of the material on his tests. This class was a joke.
Professor Pedroza made class fun to attend and although I have enjoyed all of my Spanish classes, this one has been my favorite so far! I really enjoy the cultural videos he shows and the immersion into each Spanish speaking countries culture. It helps to understand the language better and really inspires me to travel more!
Professor Pedroza is honestly a very good professor. He makes the class fun and he really engages with his students. There are quizzes every week, but if you study, you will pass. LOTS OF HOMEWORK. I took his hybrid fast track class and there is a lot of VHL work, but if you focus and get it done, it shouldn't be too time consuming.
I had a really bad experience with this class. Ive taken two other Spanish classes before, and this professor's teaching methods are by far what a student needs. Very confusing and a lot of material crammed in short periods of time. He has quizzes every week and tons of homework on material that wasn't even taught during class time.
I had Prof. Pedroza for 2 fast track spanish classes (102 &201) and I loved his class. He's very involved with the class and encourages participation. There is lots of homework but manage your time well and you can get it done. There was a quiz every class period but he told you the class before what would be on it. Over all great professor.
if you have a choice, i would advise you to stay away from this teacher. you will thank me later.
Very nice professor. Class is easy going. Would recommend
I highly recommend you not to take this professor. If you have to, I would suggest taking it at mira costa instead.
I took two hybrid fast track classes SP102 & 201 with Pedroza. There is a lot of VHL homework and a group project at the end, but overall I loved this class. He cares about his students and if you put in the effort you will learn the language and enjoy the class. Attend class otherwise you will fall behind.
Homework is due every Wednesday and Sunday. Quizzes are on Mondays and are easy. Must buy book and must be used for the activities. 12 discussion boards, 12 video boards, 1 midterm, 1 interview, 1 essay, and 1 final exam. Seems like alot but it's easy material. Quizzes and exams are timed. He's a super nice professor and he emails back fast!
Professor Pedroza is very organized. There is a lot of homework, very time consuming but easy. If you are a spanish speaker it will be a breeze however if you are not this course will be a lot harder for you. 25% of your grade is a final interview through Skype with the professor. 1 group assignment.
Professor Pedroza is very clear with his expectations. He is very organized and gives you step by step instructions, which is very helpful for online. One thing I can say that I didn't like is the way he formats his tests. It's hard to advance when you are stuck on a question and you can't see which you got wrong, which doesn't help for studying.
Professor Pedroza was a great teacher for Spanish 201 online. There is a lot of homework but it is definitely manageable. He does not accept late work, but like I said the due dates are not hard to reach. He tells you exactly what is due at the beginning of the week. I recommend!
Though this is an online class due to COVID, I believe that professor Pedroza relied a lot on the textbook website and various activities online. I am planning to major in Spanish, but I don't believe that I learned that much from this class.
Due to COVID, everything was online, but instead of actually teaching, he posted some youtube videos to teach us. Highly recommend doing all the homework and also, finals 45 percent of grade. Material was not that hard, but would not take this online class again because I didnt actually learn from the professor... Would probably take in person.
So Spanish is and isn't my second language. So I do struggle at times in Spanish classes, this class wasn't too hard, there was just a lot of stuff to turn in. So don't take this class with another heavy class. I actually felt like I was learning in this class, unlike other comments. Other than that, work hard and turn in hw on time. You go this!
Let me say, I take my schooling very seriously & Im nowhere near a slacker. I know classes require work. I have a 3.8 GPA, but this is literally one of the worst classes I've taken. Professor is inflexible, assigns loads of work, & a tough grader. It's a very difficult course, & this was my only class! Hate that this messed up my GPA. Wouldn't rec.
He is super rude. If you have a question, try to ask someone else because he is super sarcastic and tries to make you feel dumb. I lost all respect for him
Online but no zooms required! He assigns light weight assignments. Test and quizzes are timed & long but if you pay attention youll do fine. The class was not very time consuming so take it if you have a tight schedule. He always explains what is expected. Nothing in this class will come as a surprise. Practice the Spanish and youll do great!
Lots of work on top of language lab assignments. Make sure you get the assignments done or else your grade will drop substantially. Make sure you carefully read and listen to instructions because he is quite rude when responding to things. If you have a busy schedule I dont recommend you taking a 5 Unit language class.
Prof Pedroza is a difficult grader, but he wants you to succeed. I do not recommend taking a foreign language online if you are not familiar with Spanish. In order to even have a chance at passing, make sure you do every single language lab assignment or else you will not pass.
So I haven't taken Spanish in 2 years, so I was stressing with this class. My advice is; do all the homework early or else it will be 5+ hours. Review before exams and quizes because they are timed and can be overwhelming. And most importantly watch the informational videos for each estructura in vistas because it will teach you more the material!
There are TOO MANY assignments, projects, and the way he grade is very strict. If you don't speak Spanish, I don't recommend it because most of the homework is lecture based, late work is not accepted, he use websites like Vistas and final is based on listening, writing an essay and having a conversation with him in Spanish .
This professor is very articulate in both Spanish and English, is very clear about his expectations and homework for each week, he is exceptionally organized which makes learning online or in class easy. He is a tough but fair grader, you do have to be making learning and studying a priority, learn Spanish and learn it well, he is your best bet!
Palomar has a lot of really bad options with spanish teachers. This guy and Elena Villa are ones that you should avoid at all cost. If you transferring to CSUSM take it there. It more expensive but at least you know they will be good teachers. I'm a spanish speaker myself and these were not good teachers.
I really liked Prof. Pedroza! I thought he was very nice & I can confidently say that my Spanish has gotten much better. I'm not sure why some of his reviews on here are so harsh, because I'd definitely take one of his classes again. There's definitely a lot of homework, but if you just put in the effort and avoid procrastinating, you'll do well :)
While Professor Pedroza does assign a lot of work, you can keep up if you put in some work everyday. He's very kind and gives great feedback. I'm not a native Spanish speaker and I can tell that I've greatly improved in my understanding with this language after his class. Practice before exams/interviews and you'll do great!
I really enjoyed having this professor. He always gave great feedback on assignments.
Great Professor. Learned a lot of about Latin America.
Class was a bit difficult with how much homework is assigned every week. My Spanish isn't the best, so it was quite a struggle keeping up and doing quizzes. VHL is used a LOT, along with Protractor for mid-terms and finals so very nerve wracking as well.
The only difficult aspect of this instructor was the fact that it was a foreign language. He was very helpful and gave great feedback.
This professor doesn't go the extra mile, even with accommodations or eBook help. He's a tough grader and doesn't seem passionate about teaching more like he's just going through the motions. If you're looking for an easy A or more support, I'd recommend taking the class in the fall or with another professor.
Professor gave great feedback, and overall the workload wasn't too bad. Every single week, we knew what we needed to do and what to do. For some tips, I recommend spending plenty of time getting to know vocabulary and getting stuff done early. He is a fair professor, and I enjoyed learning a lot of Spanish from all over! Que tengas éxito!
I was extremely disappointed with this class. As a student with an active IEP, I did not receive my approved accommodations in a timely manner. A memory aide was only offered after the oral exam which negatively impacted my grade. I maintained a B average until that point This was my final class to graduate, and I felt unsupported and penalized.
Absolutely ridiculous amount of assignments, and pretty difficult to pass. I would not waste my time taking his class.
Professor Pedroza is extremely difficult. When trying to get accommodations for a processing delay, he did not help. An oral interview is mandatory. Students must schedule during two days, and if they are not able to make it, they will fail the entire course. There are about 45-50 assignments a week. Impossible to pass, and he does NOT care.
Do not waste your time—insane amount of work, hard final. Pedroza could care less if you pass or not.
