You will not learn a thing in this class unless you can memorize the book verbatim. He does not teach you. He BS's his way through the entire hour barely ever saying a word about government.
He is horrible teacher. He does not teach. He spends the class time trying to brainwash the students.
This Professor gives Tarrant County College a bad name. He does not teacher. It pass this class you have to teacher yourself and agree with him on everything. Do not have an opinion if you take him. Actually if would want to learn something take another professor.
Student beware! There is a reason why he is now at his forth college. Look him up and see for yourself.

Do not take this teacher. If you do you will be tested over material that was not taught, have to listen to his opinions and not be allowed to have your own. Will fail if you do not agree with him on all issues. Finally, do projects that he changes the assignment days before it is due. If you chose to take him Good luck.
rambled on for the class. had discussions on current issues. dont get me wrong, class was fun and he is a nice guy, but i would've rather had him for a current events class than govt. test were hard with what he "taught". finally he gave us some sort of study packet. he will help you if you try and participate but if you just sit there good luck.
he teaches students to have an opinion. however he does like to know what facts you know to support you choice. He does not read the text book to you, so if you need someone to read a government book to you don't take this professor. if you like thinking outside the book, this guy is an upbeat insperation for thoughts.
The worst teacher i've ever had. He rambles on and on about nothing, he is never on topic. H doesn't teach then tries to test over material you've never heard before. He keeps changing what is on the test everyday. I'm amazed this man still has a job.
This man does not explain things well. He will tell you onethig, but say another. It is very hard to understand him when he talks. He tries to be funny by telling jokes. You have to do a group project or a polling assingment. Don't waste your time taking this class from him.
This instructor hops from one topic to another. You will get lost at what he is trying to teach you. Sometimes I wonder if he even knew what he was talking about. He does not speak English well at all so you will find your self very lost. You really don't know what to study for his test because he will tell you onething and something different is o
Couldn't be a nicer guy...until you disagree with him over a minority issue. Seriously, even if you're just liberal (and I generally am), disagree with him and you'll see him try to confront you (no, not physically). While generally nice, he's useless as a teacher. How bad? I learned more about US Government from Jon Stewart's book....
He is by far the worst teacher you could ever have. He does not teach, instead he shows you pictures of his vacations. I dreaded each moment of his class. He was obsessed with minorities and once told all the white students that they were "boring" and that he hated being around them. Not one student in my class liked him. Complete and total idiot!
absolutely horrible!! By far the worse teacher you can have..his test are nothing what you study for. Brags about how important the polling assignment is, but in reality he'll still fail you. Worse teacher by far you could ever take! I do NOT recommend him to anyone.
An extremely nice guy, but not a very good teacher. I honestly did not learn one thing in his class. He spends the majority of his class trying to convince students to believe what he thinks his right. You have to depend on the book and your project grade to help you pass.

You can't understand him what so ever. He spends all class period youtubing and talking about stuff he heard on the radio. He doesn't teach you anything about government at all. Come test time he expects you to know stuff he never taught. I learned more about Govt in high school. Do not take him, it is a waste of time and money!
TCC is only making its name worse by having "professors" like him.
I recently finish taking him for t TX Gov't. Do not take him. His lectures are always about education and welfare. He tries to bring current issues to relate. I read the comments before taking but didn't believe them. Wish I listen. Made a "C" in the end. He only has three exam with essay questions and a polling assignments. Don't take him it's not worth your GPA.
WORST TEACHER EVER. I have a 4.0 GPA and i had to drop the class because of this terrible teacher.
He is an amazing instructor. Extremely fascinating and interesting. Really knows his stuff. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He makes you work for your grade,but is very helpful and hands-on all along the way. Best Teacher I have had in a LONG time.
This is the WORST teacher i have ever had, forces you to do a polling assignment for half of your grade, but the only people you can poll are classmates because it is soliciting. I had to drop him or else i would have failed. IF you dont do something just how he likes it, you fail his class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Missed one day of class and emailed him and asked what I missed he never responded and I came to class to find out we were having a test. I didnt have time to study do not take him he may be mildly entertaining but thats about it
This teacher is beyond awful. When he teaches his lessons (which are word for word out of the book) you can barely understand him. He took points off my project for an assignment that was not supposed to be a grade. He made it up at the last minute because he was annoyed I had challenged him. Never take his class. Someone contact TCC about him.
Not an easy 'A' type of class. You will need to use your brain in this course, THE HORROR! Exams are fairly easily, just read the chapters & his powerpoints (DL students) and you will succeed. Polling assignment isn't hard, I enjoyed the alternative to writing a paper or taking an exam. Not for everyone, I suppose.
I took his class online and had to drop because of his ridiculous polling assignment. It required you to poll 100 people and get their signatures. No one has time for that! I do not recommend taking his class.
I don't think professors understand the concept of DL classes. This guy has a polling assignment due at the end of the course that must be hand delivered w/ a requirement of 100 signatures. No alternative assignment for people who can't get to campus and don't have the time to get 100 signatures.
Terrible teacher. Not good at communicating; directions and information about tests and the big polling project were consistently unclear. No one in the class ever knew what was going on. He only shows YouTube videos in class and doesn't test over any material we actually discuss. Do NOT take Rovelo's class or you will regret it.
Mr. Rovelo may be a difficult teacher, but if you're serious about learning, take him. He definitely knows what he's talking about and he's not boring at all. He's very helpful with the polling assignment as well, if you need help on it. He is also an awesome teacher to talk to. I recommend him for Government 1302. :)
Awesome teacher, very knowledgeable and interesting. You have to work hard by putting in a lot of study time and be ready to answer a lot of questions in class... but overall he was awesome (I took him Summer12) and I would highly recommend him to anyone.
Covers the chapters with high levels of enthusiasm and thoroughness. Sometimes material falls through the cracks because of this. Has a thick accent, but a rich understanding of communication. A trustworthy professor, and patient. Take him if you want to pass with a renewed perspective, not if you want an easy A.
DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!! I ended up having to drop this class because he posted the EXACT same assignment twice and was very unclear about how he wanted them submitted. I got an A one way I submitted it and a zero on the other one (EXACT SAME ASSIGNMENT!) The one he gave me a zero for was 20% of my grade. Did not respond to emails, not helpful AT ALL!
Very passionate of his work and helpful. Not easy to understand when excited. For his test you really need to study. Class was harder than I expected.
Awesome. Had so much fun in his class. Had him first class every week. Really set the tone for the week. I'm going to miss attending his lectures. Learned a lot.
Only gives 3 test & 1 assig. Never goes over info. on the test & when half the class failed all he said was focus on the polling assig, half the class failed the 2nd test & he said the same thing. It doesn't make sense to be able to fail 2 test & pass a class. I focused on the polling assignment & passed the asignment but made a 60-D in his class.
Last day of class, after I've been studying THE REVIEW and all the text book material for the chapters that were SUPPOSED to be on the final, he basically hands us the same test we took in the beginning of the semester. I told him this wasn't right and he basically just winked and said it would be alright. Made a 35- failed the class by 4 points.
I took his online class. All discussions were about immigration. His left wing political views are incorporated into his class. Worst part was the polling assignment which was extremely inconvenient. His online class WAS NOT PURELY ONLINE. The polling assignment had you running around asking 100 people opinions AND getting their signatures. AVIOD!!
He takes forever to respond to emails which contain very important questions and by the time he responds, he has already graded the assignment that I asked about. I used to just ignore these rate my professor things but please DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! It will be the worst mistake of your college career!
Online class, Polling assignment was not at all easy, and received a 70 for it anyways. If you take his online course, just absolutely remove your conservative thinking in order to get the grade. Thankfully I learned the text book and was able to pass the tests, which have a 45 minute time limit and usually two essay questions...
I see what other posters are saying, but honestly, his expectations are clear. Do the work, participate in discussions, work hard on the polling assignment and you will succeed. If you're looking for an easy A - this is not the class. But if you're looking to LEARN from someone who is knowledgable and passionate? Professor Rovelo is your guy.
Does not answer emails. There's a polling assignment that is difficult you need to poll 100 people and get signatures. Test are sometimes over material not covered. Test are essays with multiple choice. Took this class online was difficult. He maybe better in person but I would not recommend taking his class online.
Everything he goes over in class is not on the test. I studied for 6 hours before the first test, read the chapters that were going to be covered in the test 2-3 times. Test rolled around...I get a 70%. He asks questions like, "What was the percent of voters who were Asian in 2007?"
ok hears the thing if you take him just be prepared to just read the whole book what he says will be on the test what he gives as a review for his tests and whats ACTUALY on the test are all DIFFERENT things.. but he is passionate about his class you will learn something by the time you leave and is generaly funny and adorable like puppy.
Terrible! I mean the man is very passionate about the subject but not enough to teach others. He gives 1 big group assignment that he grades everyone differently on , there's no point in being in a group. And 3 Test throughout the whole year. He goes back on everything he says he will do for the class to help, and never falls through! DO NOT DO IT.

NO. I was an A student before taking this class. Polling assignment was over the top with strict, RIDICULOUS guidelines. NO guidance from teacher even when asking direct questions. Learned absolutely nothing in this class and will eventually re-take under different Professor.
Red Alert! Do not take him online. Impossible grader, no rhyme or reason. He used a different book than the syllabus, assigned chapters that did not exist, would not acknowledge in emails when asked. Be prepared to use Wikipedia, since the book only partially covers what's on the test. Grading criteria is legendarily arbitrary. Warning!!! Do do it!
I took this class online and bombed big time! The amount of reading, discussion board and tests are impossible to master. My first discussion board landed me a big fat 0! The tests were 70 minutes and contained 2 - 300 essay word and 30 multiple choice. I ran out of time before i could even finish. Dropped this class due to difficulty
Prof. Rovelo is very tough, but I scraped by, barely. But from the beginning I had the wrong book (don't get the "Essentials" edition, Rovelo uses the full version). I also recommend RESPECTFULLY emailing him for advice, that helps. Finally, his essay grading is impossible, even if you are "liberal." I recommend taking him on-campus, not online.
Ever watched game of thrones ? Hope you guys know King Joffrey. I would take his class then take this professor's class again. He gives a graduate level work for community college level undergraduate students. BEWARE not to enroll in the most popular GOVT class in your TCC campus. Chances are your fav professor will be swapped for this professor.
I did not sign up for his class. I had registered for another professors class but I ended up in his class (Beware they can do that). His lectures are boring and he gives out tough test. Not to mention 25 pages of polling assignment. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
I did not sign up for his class! His lectures have nothing to do with the exams he gives. He has a 25pg polling assignment that will count for most of your grade (if you don't do it expect to get an F). He gives extra credit but you will still end up with high C.
choose classmates wisely when final project comes near or have it in mind. see around the room who is a hard worker and not a piggyback rider for the A.
I didn't pick this professor, I chose another one and they switched me into his. His lectures have nothing to do with the chapters, he talks about government but not in regards to the book. He gives no review and the tests are broad and not easy. Polling assignment is your biggest grade. I ended up dropping the class. Do not suggest taking him.
He is the worst professor I've ever had. The directions for assignment as incredible unclear and he is the rudest grader. He takes off 30 or 40 points from simple things. He also doesn't tell you what you did wrong he just takes off mass amounts of points. If you ask him a question except a snarky unhelpful answer.
The test are really tough it's a lot of text book reading. I would recommend taking this class on campus not online.
Mr. Rovelo is straight forward w/ his expectations. Act like an adult and you will pass with an A. Doesn't read from the book, good insightful class discussions. Gives a great study guide for the tests, gives EC No HW except Polling assignment which can be challenging, but only if you wait until the last minute. His expectations are clear.
I took Prof. Rovelo's online class (Fall 2015) and it wasn't that bad. There were 4 Exams, 4 Discussion Board activities (posts had to have a minimum of 60 words, with Work(s) Cited included), and 1 paper (25 page polling assignment -you create your own questions, poll people based on the questions, compile the data -it's not as bad as you think).
Doesnt explain discussion board/essay grades even when I emailed nicely to ask. I think he uses test questions from in-class lectures for online tests, bc some were so obscure & had nothing to do with the chapters/study guide; once a question was even from a chapter we hadnt read yet. Start the midterm poll when it opens to have plenty of time.

The hardest class I have taken! The online class consist of 4 discussion boards, 4 test and 1 big assignment. He takes off a ton of points on discussions boards for the little things like not citing every response. If you make sure to follow the timeline and directions given you will pass. Test are multiple choice and 300 word essays.
NO! STOP! DON'T DO IT! Polling assignment is arbitrary and will wreck your grade point average due to extremely unreasonable grading criteria. Feedback? Yeah, right (even when you get it, his responses and suggestions are unclear and really amount to zip). WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN! Avoid at all costs!
Great teacher. Goes through slides too quickly but very interactive. Must participate in class. Extremely fair and will help you any way he can. Accent is heavy so listen closely. Approachable in and out of class.
This teacher has a passion for teaching. Show up and participate, if you do, you will pass. There are tests and projects. Fair grader and awesome teacher is who very understanding. Has principals and sticks to them. I would take him again if he taught another subject.
Never take this guys online course. Polling assignment must be a HARD COPY turned in in-person. He doesn't understand the concept of online class. Discussion boards you have to reply to 10 classmates and site a source for every post. Will still doc points even if done perfectly. Exams are 25q and 2-300 word essays -- 90 minutes not enough time.
Don't be fooled by Mr. Rovelo's smile and sometimes drifting speeches. He is a very nice man but he takes this seriously. He lets you know exactly what he wants and has a ton of office hours available if you ever have any questions. He grades fairly and anyone who complains is just lazy. Rovelo is a great professor! i really enjoyed his class.
Gives out study guides, but the test is completely different. shows off topic videos. insulting, especially during presentations. you will learn absolutely nothing in his classroom. LOTS of memorization required, from the book not the actual lectures. Constantly changes policies, said class would be mostly projects but we did mostly tests & essays.
He is a tough teacher if you are a slacker! He made me work for my C even though I had one and a million things going on during the time I took this class he was very straight forward and I appreciated that very much! Follow the guidelines out and READ!!!! .. He is very knowledgeable and I appreciated his teaching approach. loved it!

He offer times would go off on tangents that were not applicable to the class and then say he "didn't want to waste class time" going over the lecture. This WILL NOT be a blow off class. You will talk about the government but it may not always be from your book. Your participation and your willingness to work with what he gives you seems to matter more than the tests. Be aware the tests are TOUGH, even if they are open book. Engage, give feedback, discuss with him and you are likely to do well.
Okay so get ready to discuss heavy racism if your taking GOVT 2305. Every test was different! Exam 1 was two 350 word essays plus 25 questions in 60 minutes. Rovelo is a heavy participation grader so please participate! You will pass. Pay attention in his class you will work hard he believes in hard work equals opportunity. The American Way.

Do not take this class if you are working long hours! Once you start turning things in you'll be so confused by the grading. He doesn't grade by whether or not you met the deadline, but rather how early you submit. So do discussion board responses as soon as you can. Only opens test from 8am-8pm, so if you work its tough. Grades last asn. very hard
Don't do it. Unclear deadlines and due dates that aren't even in the syllabus (where EVERYTHING is supposed to be). I'll have to drop. The requirements are so all over the place and difficult to follow. Sadly I read all these reviews AFTER I had signed up. Disappointed because I studied hard and will have to drop simply because of unclear deadlines
All I wanted was an easy summer class. This is not that easy summer class. So much reading. First test was over 3 chapters. Suddenly the 2nd test is here and it's over 5 very detailed chapters! Obscure requirements that you have to dig around to find. Harsh grader. Do not take this class if you are working full time.

The professor does not show up to class. For an example, he didn't show up to his 8 am class, and he didn't give any notification. He goes off a tangent about topics that are irrelevant.
He goes off topic when giving lectures, his tests include material that wasn't covered during lectures, his syllabus includes different due dates than those that he actually assigns.

Mr. Rovelo is wonderful, his class is so easy, he doesnt care about tests, he only wants participation and projects. He review each test and give you the chance to bring a note card to help you on the test, if you do his 2nd project(about polls) its guaranteed that you pass his class.

He gives really great lectures but he's tests are hard. However, on two tests he either lets you use a notecard or the book. You really need the book. Attendance isn't mandatory but it will help you if you need another chance for a project. He knows his stuff but he also gets people confused and might give you the wrong grade.
You have to a read the chapters. He gives amazing feedback and response back fast. I would love to have him for Gov 2306
Do NOT take this class unless you want to spend money and survey people. You'll have to go out and spend money on his projects. As well as survey 100 people. You signed up for Government, not an Art or Political Science class. In addition, DO NOT believe him when he offers you to modify your project for extra credit. Trust me, DON'T DO IT!

great professor dont get me wrong, insanely passionate. but the tests ARE NOTHING LIKE CLASS LECTURES. also youll have to do a group project as well as a 100 person poll along with an essay, and signature sheets proving you did.
He honestly doesn't care about textbook stuff, Dr. Rovelo wants you to learn real life things. He's very inspirational.

Mr. Rovelo is an amazing professor! Yes you have to actually work for your grade, but he offers extra credit. His power points are what his tests are based off of, so pay attention. You can also download his power points and print them off yourself. He wants to hear students thoughts and opinions, so participate.
Discussions were too much. Minimum word for initial post was normal. Responding to minimum 10 other students with minimum word count was quite challenging.
Reading wasnt mandatory, and he never gave quizzes. We had one project in this class where you had to build something and the instructions were clear, but when reading the rubric I realized he asked for different things on different handouts for it. Basically, instructions unclear. Lectures every day, didnt mind that I didn' show up much. Boring.
I took an online class with him and he is very unhelpful. If you send him an email asking for help he doesn't. He tells you to leave the question blank. Always seems to have an attitude even when corresponding from email.
No homework but I do recommend reading the actual book even though tests are open book. Notes in class dont matter even when he says itll be on the test, its all in the book. I do NOT recommend this professor. If I could give no stars, I would. He gives two projects with vague requirements and changes requirements and dates constantly.
His instructions for online assignments were very unclear, and his syllabus contradicts his actual grading criteria. Also, only one hour was given for an exam that was 50 questions and included a 300 word essay. His discussion boards are graded in essay format and require academic sources. They are graded harshly.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone, ever. Stay far away if you would like to keep your GPA up. He grades extremely harshly especially when it comes to discussion boards, which you think would be based on participation. Test questions are obscure and do not have clear answers.
Mr. Rovelo is such an amazing professor that honestly cares about your academic success. I had technical difficulties and he always helped me. He is very straightforward and creates a syllabus that tells you exactly what you need to do. He gives you reviews and time to complete assignments. Take his class and FOLLOW THE SYLLABUS and you will pass.
Really good teacher, no homework, but you MUST read book to pass exams. Fast-paced environment. Few assignments during the whole semester. Easy to pass...
He did not follow his syllabus nor update it to match his new agenda match. His lectures rarely corresponded with his tests. He would often not show up to class with no warning. Some of the materials on the tests could be found in the book, but other than that his class was difficult to study in.
Really cares about his students but is harsh when it comes to tests and grades. The lecture and tests do not go over the same material making it hard to pass. He said all tests would be open book yet only 2/4 were open book tests. Great personality Poor teaching.
Rovelo was an AMAZING professor, my classmates raved always about him. His lectures are not boring, he always made us laugh, and he shared life stories that were inspirational. He got to know each of us as a whole. He is TEST HEAVY, we normally took test over several chapters every few weeks. His class is NOT hard, but you DO have to pay attention!
His tests were pretty hard, but he is an amazing professor and educator. He really wants his students to succeed and he sees your efforts. If it wasnt for this man I would not have received my associates degree or had the opportunity to start my bachelors program! He is great.
Professor Rovelo is a great professor. When class started, make sure to read the syllabus and textbooks. This was an online asynchronous class so we dont meet live. There was just 10 assignments through out the course: 3 test, 5 Discussion board, 1 assignment and a intro quiz. Get to know Professor Rovelo and put in the work and pass.
Honestly, not a great professor at all. No lectures during the online semester and the way things are graded are unnecessarily convoluted. If he wanted his students to pass after putting all the work in, he would include a variety of grades. Instead, he relies on movie script assignments, ready to fail his students.
I would most definently take this professor again. I completely missed an assignment and he let me complete it less than a week before the class ended. He said this was because he wanted to help me succeed in life. He got to know me and what I wanted to do in the future. He was very accessible and easy to confide in. I would highly recommend him.
We ran into some problems initially with how assignments are graded and what not, but he was very open to helping me understand what I needed to do better over multiple phone calls, and he was always willing to work with me whenever I needed help. One of the most caring and engaged professors I have had.
Hes a very understanding professor but make sure to not to take advantage. He is very straightforward and would help as much as possible with whatever youre having trouble with. Would definitely take this professor again.
Professor Rovelo is very caring. His test are very clear, if you study your notes and his PowerPoints then you should be good! He is always willing to work with you outside of class if you have to make up an exam or quiz. His sense of style never disappoints and he does so much for the Hispanic community. I would 100% recommend him for Fed. Gov!
Professor Rovelo knew that I was going through a tough patch in my life to where I missed an assignment. Instead of letting me fail, we emailed and he let me turn in the assignment after the final exam had already been taken.
If you put in the effort he will do whatever he can to help you.
This Professor genuinely cares about your academic success and will do anything to try and get you there while understanding the material as well.
He gives like 5 discussion boards and one assignment for the whole semester plus 3 tests including the final and honestly his class is not hard if you turn in everything on time. Only reason for my C is my fault for missing the final but not a hard class.

Professor Rovelo's class is very simple. He gives 4 discussion boards, 1 assignment and 4 tests including the final. He is very patient, caring and understanding making him one of the best professors that I have had. He is not a tough grader, he always reaches out with advice explaining what could've made your work better. I highly recommend!!
When taking Federal Government, its always best to get to know the Professor. Then when it came to the assignments, make sure to complete them. The Discussion Board posts require 5-10 replies and 3 Tests. This was an easy class. All you need is a notebook, notes, PowerPoint and know the Professor.
Professor expect you to work but it is fear and clear on his expectations. He is fair and will help if you communicate with him.
Professor Rovelo was very responsive, responding to student emails in good time and even offering to call and talk over things as the class was online. He wants to get to know his students on a personal level and cares deeply about their success. Its very encouraging to have a professor like that because it doesn't happen every day!

This class was short and moved fast. The professor gave us all the information we needed to make good grades. It was intense because of the shortened timeline. Overall I learned a lot. I would recommend this class and this professor.
Since I took his class for Summer 1, everything was fast-paced so there is no room to slack off even a little bit. However, while I did run into a bit of trouble with missing a test and some discussion days, Professor Rovelo was not only very understanding he was willing to help me make up some grades. Communication is key and he's understanding.
He helped me throughout the class even though I hate history courses but this time I am happy about my grades just because he helped me so much.
Mr. Rovelo is a comprehensive teacher. The lectures, the organization of the course, and the response back from Mr. Rovelo were puntual and understood. Mr. Rovelo assisted me when I needed help regarding the course.
He was a great teacher and helped me when ever I needed it and he was patient.
I spent up to 3-4 hrs doing 2 discussion boards and looking for support to my answers to get a 50/100. Then a 60/100 on another. He will post things on a thurs/frid and give u 72 hrs to turn in discussion board answers and if after 72 hrs automatically takes 25 points. Alot of reading and most questions on test are from the books. I had to drop.
If you are a super busy person with a life, don't suggest this professor for you. has a lot of readings he wants done in a short amount of time & many discussion boards one after another that have to be done within 72 hours. everything comes from the text book so you have to sit down and be able to read everything.
Absolutely amazing teacher for those ready to put their passion in the work they do. It's not the easiest class, and requires a lot of work to be put in. He provides all the help you need if you ask or go to his office hours. All that's required is a good work ethic and some passion, and he'll gladly help you get a good grade in this class.
Professor Rovelo is simply one of the best teachers I've ever had in my entire education career, not just college. His energy is electric and he is so passionate about what he teaches. One gets the sense that he is genuinely trying to help your future by informing you. Almost wish I faied so I could take his class again. Almost.
At first the class appears as if it will be easy. No assignments were given and he never pushed the reading so much. But you will need to read in order to succeed. His lectures are worth attending and if you miss class then you will miss pertinent info. Only take him if you are a serious student! Very great attitude and worth taking !
Read your chapters of your book and take great notes and trust me you wont fail a test. If your not a great test taker you have a chance to redeem yourself with a great project assignment. You get to build a presentation, but not with a PowerPoint. He will work with you and answer all your questions. Plus you get to get a great laugh too!
He's a good professor in the sense you learn more than expected. In terms of the subject he goes above and beyond to the lessons he tries to teach. Dont be afraid to ask for help in any kind of manner. He cares as long as you put in the work
Hes a very good professor I would totally recommend him, I would take him again he makes class seem so enthusiastic and overall great teacher, his experience and dedication really left and impact on me, and his desire to educate us, and pass some of the known he has to us.
I took his class this last semester, and I would take it again. The class isnt difficult at all as long as you keep up with deadlines and dont procrastinate. Also, I feel it worth mentioning that I had a family emergency in the last couple weeks of the class, and he was extremely understanding and accommodating.
He has a little bit of an accent. However; he takes his teaching seriously. He will help you out when you need it. Hes not a tough grader. Definitely take his class if you need a good grade.
Professor Rovelo prides himself to be inspirational and caring to his students . His story of being an immigrant highlights the greatness, but many flaws, of the United States.

Professor Rovelo is an amazing professor, I recommend this class for anyone who is planning to take GOVT2305.
I heavily advise you to look for another professor. His lectures are all PowerPoint and the material will most likely not be on any test. Second, his grading is heavily arbitrary in what he says your grade is and what it actually turns out. He says it's 100 the system says 80. Finally, you only have 5 grades so good luck on his arbitrary grades.
Would spend hours working on discussion boards looking for sources to back it up only to receive a low grade. Requires you to respond to 10 posts, gives you an hour to take a test with 30 questions and two 300 word essays, and has very little assignments. Would not recommend.

Profesor Rovelo was great throughout the semester and gave us a lot of extra credit opportunities to make a great grade for the course. His work was a bit challenging but gave us all the help we would need with anything including our projects. I enjoyed this class and his style of teaching and know that future students will as well.
He was really great, really lecture heavy but all of his test have been open notes so if you pay attention then its all good!

Mr. Rovelo is a considerate man, but will never accept late work. To do well on exams you must study, of course. Take notes in class, he might probably let you use them. Attendance is not mandatory but it is very recommended to go to take notes. He is very organized.
More than a professor, he is a guiding force in this world. Well-spoken, honorable, and passionate he brings forth a learning experience that incorporates the struggles of America. He will take the time to listen to you after class and follow up when you struggle. I fell begin and he took the time to check on me regularly working with SAR to help.

Keep up with the textbook readings and study as each test can cover a few chapters at a time. That said, reach out to him and he will work with you and give you feedback with examples.
this is not a hard class at all just stay on task no late work and try hard and you should pass. if you need help you can email the professor and he will get back you in a reasonable time. give yourself plenty of time to go over the chapters and for the homework. if this is done it should be a fairly easy class for the semester good luck
Good Class. Took his us govt class for a summer semester and I enjoyed it. You will have to do work, but his grading is very clear, and he gives feedback on why you got the grade you got.
Class only had about 8 assignments I believe so be prepared to try and get a really good score on each of them. Professor Rovelo I can say genuinely cares about his students and responded to emails in less than a day! He even let me schedule a phone call and take a test late - so don't be afraid to ask (this is stated in his syllabus). Great guy!
One thing i liked was he used real life experiences and would explain how relevant the things we learned in class to today's world, A word of advice, when test come up read the text book, not everything is on the slides :)
Very lenient when it comes to tests; the project so far was the most important of our grades. He talks about real-world issues and gives excellent advice, but the tests are a bit hard; a lot of the material covered is not included. Nevertheless, an overall outstanding professor and would retake it.

hard class, tests were very difficult. have to read the book and really really pay attention to every little thing he says during lecture. grade was based on 4 tests and 1 project. hard class. very hard....
Lots of reading/note taking from textbook, PowerPoints, and videos. Must go over all to pass tests. Lots of research on your own for discussion board and replies. Not an easy grade/class. Due dates and times on syllabus vs announcements do not match up so be sure to double check. Only 1hr on exams for questions and 2 300 word written questions.
I wouldn't say he's the best, but he isn't the worst. I had a rough start and the 2 essays on the quizzes (very end) caught me offguard. Take thourough notes. I struggled the way I did because I'm not a good note taker. You can pass this class with reasonable effort, it got easier at the end.
Nice professor, but he had two assignments which one is a project and then three to four exams over the chapters read which are 50 questions in each exam and you only have the class time to complete them if you don't make such a good grade on the first exam and assignment you are already close to not passing the class so study and pay attention.

Mr. Rovelo is a great teacher he is very passionate about his class. He looks forward of conversations within this class he does talks about how big his family is. He is very funny and caring there is alot of note taking. His tests are open book there may be one group project. Overall I would definitely take his class again.
Great Teacher. The one class I like coming to. He loves what he do and he tries to make sure that you understand. Because of this class, I pay more attention to whats going on in the government. Make sure to pay attention and he does have an open note test. Would take again if I had to do another history/government class.
I took this course online so I never go to experience him. I would not recommend having this course online unless you're taking online college seriously. Mostly you learn through textbooks and posted slide shows (which do help for tests). His discussion boards are not boring but not easy. He is fair and reasonable. He can be confusing.
Professor Rovelo is a very caring and passionate professor. He always has an answer to your question and is willing to do the work to find it. He is also very welcoming to all ideas and backgrounds. Which I think is very cool. I would absolutely take another course instructed by him.
The material was communicated well. Rovelo was always engaging and enthusiastic with our class. He would often talk on serious matters regarding our government and life in general. He also shared with us personal stories and how his experiences were also effected by the government. All in all it was a fun class to be in.
This is one of the most energetic caring professors I have had the fortune of having. His life story is a huge inspiration and his overall motivation behind teaching is well focused with an amazing attitude.

great profesor, mostly have about five major grades includes one assignment. get ready to read he lets you use your notes during exams which is 4 but make sure to study nights before because the chapters can be long. overall his very good and helps you when you need it.

Professor Rovelo at the beginning of the semester was clear on what he expected from us and laid everything out for us to succeed and pass the class. If you put in the time and dedicate yourself to do the work and study, you will pass. You will need the book and I suggest reading ahead of the lectures. Also, he really cares about his students.

i had Mr. Rovelo for 2 semesters for texas government & federal government. His teaching skills are amazing & he genuinely makes it interesting & fun to learn. He is a very caring teacher who wants the best future for his students. If you take you notes in class, the passing part is easy! 10/10 recommend!!

I'm honestly conflicted. He seems like a great person, but I didn't enjoy his online class. I think his class is better in person. The tests didn't have nearly enough time with 30 multiple choice and 2 300 words essays in a 1-hour limit. The discussion boards were fine but time-consuming and opened on Fridays. Main post had to be due in 3 days.

I have mixed feelings about this professor. The workload is not much. The course has 7 grades total. It consists of 2 discussion posts, 1 assignment, and 4 tests. However, he is an EXTREMELY hard grader and takes off points for no reason. While the workload might not be much, he wants so much from each assignment. Would not take him again.

Never take his class. Takes off tons of points for tiniest errors. Lots of homework and tons of reading. When taking tests, even though the answer choice matches the notes, you will still get it wrong. For the test your timed, cannot go back, and have no retakes. Does not post a test review either. Super tough grader it's ridiculous, will def drop.
Out of my whole time at TCC, he is the worst teacher I have encountered ! I reached out to him because his class is so hard to follow. He called me and basically ripped me a new one on the phone for me not dedicating all my time and effort to his class. He has no concept that students have a life outside of his class. I don't recommend.
Carlos Rovelo is an extremely passionate professor! If you're committed to putting in the effort and learning about our governmental system, then this course is perfect for you. To succeed in this course, it's important to review the syllabus and discussion guidelines ahead of time. Study guides do not mirror the exam. However, notes are allowed.
The MCQs featured on exams need to be better vetted, as their quality was middling, to say the least. These would be statistical questions that outright contradicted or were missing from the textbook. He seems to expect rote memorization regarding his FRQs, asking deceptively simple questions that require repeating passages line-by-line.

Just gives you powerpoints to read over, which you would expect from Online classes.He also makes assignments due way before their actual due date and deducts plenty of points because of that. On the tests, no matter what you will get the short essay questions wrong which will tank your grade on the test.This was probably the worst teacher I've had
class average failing for a Texas core class
This class is made up of 10 total assignments (including tests), each is worth 100 points. It's very hard to actually do well in his class because of his tough grading, the tests are about 30 multiple choice and 1 or 2 essay questions, miss a bit of info on the essay questions and he will mark those wrong, the essay questions are worth 20 points.
He gives tests for 30 questions and 2 essays in one hour. His prompts are vague and he will count of for not including specific material. Overall just a tough grader
Literally don't even bother taking this class. The assignments are due before the actual due dates he posts. The test has 30 mcq and 2 300 word short essays and he only gives you an hour to take it. Don't bother stressing yourself out. Try to get another professor.
Do NOT take this class even if it is online. The teacher does not care about your grades. I had a 4.0 GPA but not anymore because of this class. Stay away from it!!The teacher does not explain things clearly and nothing makes sense. He is not helpful & does not care if students are struggling. I do not recommend this class to anyone.

This class was definitely VERY hard for me, mainly because of the exams(there was a lot of material that was covered for it). He has discussions, but they are much easier to score good on. He's is also understanding bc when I explained why I got the grades I did, he understood and agreed to change it. Overall, this class is tough but do-able.

Do not take this class, very hard grader basically wants you to copy and paste from textbook on test essay questions other than adding what you read and what he asked for. Act as if he cares about you and your grade but he does not at all!! Horrible
He is a very hard grader. The test questions he wants you to copy and paste out of the book pretty much, did very well on everything but the essay questions on the test and couldn't get an A because of it. He does expect a lot on discussions and tests. Just be ready to read and work hard. Had a 4.0 until now!
