I took his class last semester and in my opinion he is the best teacher that i ever had before. He explains everything in an easy way and his class is full of culture and art. very interesting class. If i have to take another class in lenguges division i will take it with him. Exelent professor.

shroder, i had him for two semesters and really enjoyed his way of teaching. Would recommend him to anyone for English.
Schoder knows what he is talking about but he is VERY strict on papers.

Carlos is a great teacher. He enjoys challenging his students. He feels that every student has room for improvement, I agree with him.
I'm sorry but Carlos is the man! people who **** about him are ussually the lazy ass kids who want an easy A which you will not get. Extremely helpfull and creates a fun classroom experience, twice a week 3 hours each time and I still enjoyed every minute of it. But i did have to take cigg breaks even though he busts your nuts if you do smoke.
I know a lot of people have issues with Dr.Schroder's teaching style, but if you can get past his harsh personality and appreciate his humor for what it is. And if you come to class prepared, ready, and willing to work, he will take the time to help you, but he wont waste his time on slackers trying to get around a due date or making excuses.
Professor Schroder is one the absolute best teachers I ever had. I miss taking his classes, and would reccommend him to other students. He may seem harsh at times, but get over it, he's hillarious and amazing at what he teaches. Good luck! :)
How could anyone not like this guy? He is so caring-he could probably teach at Georgetown but he doesn't he cares about his students. He is so "Not your typical NOVA teacher"--He wears shorts and t-shirts to class :)
Quite pedantic and needs to step off of his high horse. I understand honors are supposed to be challenging, but with no frame for the papers, you get a new sense of "think outside the virtually non-existent box." Only take this instructor if this is the only class you plan on taking. Trust me.
I wouldn't question his knowledge of his material, or do I have a problem with his grading, considering I always got at least a B for my graded work, but his classroom conduct is condescending and unprofessional. Aside from one teacher's pet in my class, he was rude and abrasive to everyone. I understand sarcastic humour, but he was just a jerk.
I Have had Carlos for English 111 and 112. I have learned so much in his class, and not only about English. He knows everything about everything. He is a very influential person, and if your serious about school he respects that. If your lazy DO NOT take the class, he won't have any respect for you or your excuses. Over he is a genius.

He is arrogant, sarcastic, a real pain in the ass. But his classes are wonderful and he makes the students really put their brain to work. If you are looking for an easy A, run from Carlos. If you think you should learn something at school, he is the man.
Well, for me taking Eng 111-09 with Carlos Schroder was like going to "writing boot-camp." Seriously, he is going to kick your lazy *** and make you work. In the end of the semester...IF YOU MAKE IT THAT LONG, you will be one of the few, proud ones, who did survive the class. Don't expect an easy A.I WOULD RECOMEND HIM 100%

Mr. Schroder is a very intelligent, worldly man, yet fails to specify (adequately) how he expects students to fulfill his expectations when writing essays. He is generally unclear when explaining how an essay should be organized.
He's good theacher. But he is not good with grades.
Dr. Schroder is a hard teacher but the fair one. It's not easy to get an "A" in his class, but if you study hard he will grade your work fairly. I enjoyed all his classes, they weren't boring. His style of teaching is severe, but it helps students (especially, lazy ones) to study!!!! If you want to learn something, take his classes!
The worst thing about Carlos is that he expects you to be able to write a 850 word paper off of a 10 word prompt. He expects to much from his students. He should not hold are hand the whole way but, a teachers job is to teach.. and he sucks at that

this guy is a smart Asshole...he gives too much work, and will expect you to write a 900 word essay about BULLSHT. His classes are mad boring, he's so sarcastic and very strict when it comes to attendance. taking his class was one of my biggest regrets and it was a waste of time and money. life is hard enough as it is, he just makes it a NIGHTMARE.

He is a hard teacher and an unreasonable grader. He is strict about attendance and you will have to do a good amount of writing and research in his class. If you keep up with everything and use his feedback, you will improve as a writer and learn a lot. i like his style even though he enjoys being a jerk and a "HARD" professor.
Dr. Schroder is the best professor I have had in a while, he is very helpful, clear and nice. A very worldly man. By taking his class I have improved my writing skills and my knowledge of the world. Work veru hard by writing journals every week, an essay every two weeks, an outside activity( i.e museums) and presentations. Very hard grader.
This teacher is great and he has great sence of humor. I enjoyed his lectures.He is very helpful.It might look complicated in the beginning but overall if you get what he is expecting from you, you will get very reasonable grades.Which is good- you will benefit and really improve your skills!
I do not know what these people are talking about. His jokes are corny and he asks 4 2 much. He's smart but way 2 full of himself. His grading system is unreasonable. You get 20 points for participation,but all your essays put 2gether dont even add up to 20 points. However his feedback is very useful. I'd have an A [not a LOW B]if he had been fair.
very smart and you can learn a great deal from him if u try. but he's an unreasonable grader whose grading system is not a reasonable one. he is not always the clearest. also the workload is overwhelming. if u want to get an A, this probably is not the professor youd want. even if u try to the best of your ability, chances are you wont get that A.

He's a good teacher... although I WOULD NOT take him again. It's not an easy A class. He's sarcastic and curses alot. You have to work hard in order to pass this class. A lot of reading and writing. Carlos is very helpful if he sees that you work and need help. It is said that people do not usually get an A in his class. However, I must say if you want an A and will work for it it is possible, as well as a huge improvement in writing. Good luck.
He's a nice person but will definitely come back to bite you in the end.You can be a very bright student but he will still give you low grades despite your hard work. He can be VERY rude at times but you will learn to like him. I do not reccomend his course if you have more than 4 classes, he thinks he is your only teacher so he gives a lot of work
Get out of this class the first day if you feel iffy about him. Definitely is a good teacher to have if you want to challenge yourself but bad if you don't want to deal with attitude. He doesn't give extra credit (which is BAD) and he doesn't take proper attendance therefore there's a chance that your class participation will be low so sign in.
TOUGH. If you really want to become a better writer try to stick through it, other run for the hills. The amount of writing her requires on less than clear instructions will quickly do your head in. His feedback is sort of half-assed. He's totally funny though and wants to get the best out of you but insanely tough.
If you want to develop as a writer and learn how to craft well reasoned arguments at a university level then this is the class for you. My observation is that students who do not like Dr. Schroder feel so because they are not used to defending their position with logic. He is a very pleasant man and enjoys pushing people to learn.
This is is quite sarcastic and comes off as a drama queen. Seriously However much he pretends that he doesn't care for teaching nor his students, he will help you out a lot without sugar coating. Be prepared to memorize MLA formatting. Ignore all of his teasings as well.

I enjoyed Carlos Schroder. He keeps it real and is very interesting. As long as you do the assignments and show up for class, you will do well in this course. He is somewhat of a difficult grader, but he's reasonable. I'd recommend if you like to be entertained and treated like an adult!
Probably one of the most challenging classes/professors that I ever had to deal with. Turn in all of your assignments, listen to directions clearly, and when he tells you to read an article of some sort for homework, READ IT! He will 9/10 times quiz you on whatever it was about. I got a B not an A I'm just glad I managed to pass this class.
The fact that Professor Schroder has a 1.9 for easiness is blowing my minddd! YOU yourself determine whether or not this class will be easy. Absolutely NO TESTS. The final was a presentation. You don't have to be a genius to pass this class. Yes, it is a bit difficult to get an A, but it's not impossible! Just work at it and you'll be good
You have to work hard in his class. If you expect an easy A, not a recommended class for you, he's a really great teacher, very hard, but fair. He challenges your writing and makes you a better writer. Attendance is mandatory, and as long as you do your work you should be fine. He responds to emails on time.
This is a hard class, Professor Schroder challenges you to think outside the box. If you do the work and participate in class and do your very best, the class should go by smoothly. This is definitely not an Easy A class, you have to work hard to get your A. Overall the class is alright, it's just a matter of time and effort.

this class is made for students who are planning to transfer to a 4 year university with a solid background in writing and critical thinking. his pieces of advice are enlighten, i learned skills, such as, identifying false & real information, academic writing, oral presentation, teamwork, analytical & problem solving. best english professor! at first you'll hate him but as the semester goes on you'll see that he really cares about his students doing well which is rare in professors. he even offers to read your essay before you turn it in!
He is a very intelligent professor who pushes you to your limit and helps the students to improve their writing skills. He comes to the class prepared and he always brings interesting and polemic topics to discuss in class. GREAT CLASS!

HE IS NOT CLEAR ABOUT WHAT HE WANTS IN YOUR ESSAYS. there are about 6 essays, easy but they're all super boring. one is on the schools LIBRARY and another is on the WRITING ASSISTANCE CENTER. the "final exam" is a 10 minute presentation on the topic you choose for your last research paper. if you are going to speak, make sure you have evidence.
Professor Schroder is really good. He provides us with constructive criticism and grades fairly. You will need to do proper research and he will help you with it. He will give you many chances to get his help. He will not be treating you like a child, he will respect you the same way you respect him. Syllabus is crystal clear. Great class!
Carlos's class was a blessing in disguise. In the beginning of this course he comes off as a professor who doesn't really care much about his students or their opinions. However, throughout the term he is teaching you how to presentdo research before you make your claim on a subject. This class will improve your writing and research skills.

While the rating looks bad, I must state that Professor Schroder is unique. It's hard to get an A, but it's also hard to get an F. The best advice to be taken is that your essays are absolutely NOT textual analyses, they are meant to use material from your texts to support a strong argument. You'll hate him at first, but grow to see he does care.
He is a great, but demanding teacher. He is very seleive on how he wants the essays done, particular about attendance and people being late, but which teacher isn't really. My favorite aspect about his class was when he would be up there teaching because I would always learn something new that would affirm or completely contradict a view I had.

Schroder assigns many papers throughout the semester, with instructions that are not always clear. His grading scale is out of 100 total points for the semester and he is VERY critical of your work. You do a lot of work for very few points. He will rip your work apart. Even if English is your 2nd or even 3rd language. Questionable sense of humor.
Only took the class to fit into my schedule, big mistake. Tough, like almost impossible to get a A in that class. Paper topics are unclear, and does not care about students. You have to talk to him about every paper, if you want to receive an alright grade.
Professor Schroder can be sarcastic, mean, and one minded at first, but you end seeing he cares about the students. Attendance is a must or else you won't pass. Class participation is necessary, expect five essays, one research paper, and one extra credit paper. To be honest, this is not an easy A class. Thanks to the professor I learned many things such as how to write an argumentive essay, MLA format, and improve my writing skills. I recommend this class to students.
Carlos has everything laid out in the syllabus, all you have to do is complete the assignments, go to class (BE IN YOUR SEAT B4 CLASS STARTS), and participate. Make sure you are an active listener and keep communication so that you will have better grades. Use all your resources and don't procrastinate like I did. Carlos is also willing to help
cool guy. In the short term, the work seems like a lot (5 essays, 13 journal entries, 1 research paper and 2 presentations) but I feel like a better student for having taken his course. Just do all the work on time, put a little effort in it and you'll be ok. Use the discussion boards for class participation points. It's like extra credit.

He holds a doctorate in Comparative Literature from the University of Maryland as well as a notable teaching position. He wants to transform his students, he isn't there to assign easy papers and no-brainer assignments. If you're a complainer, avoid him, you won't grow. If you want to grow and be a better writer, take him.
If you are NOT good at writing, then I would not recommend him for you. He is a very tough grader, and getting an A is almost impossible in his class. But you will learn a lot about writing a good essay plus he replies to emails very quickly.

Despite his very tough appearance, he is a good professor. Tough grader he is, but with a little efforts, It is possible to get an A in his class! Dont skip classes and utilize his office hours as much as you can.

I took Professor Schroder's online ENG 111 course and I can honestly say that it helped my understanding of how to build a solid paper a ton! He's a tough grader but gives excellent feedback and provides lots of resources to help you with the 3 essays you will have to write in this course. He is a really great teacher!!

If you don't do well on a paper, he will call you to the front to read your paper in front of the entire class to embarrass you ... I've seen him do it multiple times. He's very rude. Also, it's pretty much impossible to get an A in his class, no matter how hard you work or receive help.
Enrolled in English 111 and had to withdraw from his class. Hes very rude & a horrible professor. Never got an A on any of the essays, and never got full points for even class participation. Do NOT take his class, you will be set up.

Great class. Mr. Schroder will definitely challenge you to think beyond the usual. There are about 5 short essays throughout the semester but if you do the research they turn out to be easy. Pay attention to MLA and deadlines. Really enjoyed the class and overall it was a good experience. Get ready to improve your writing skills! No textbook needed
He is a great professor. Don't drop his class. You will learn a lot. With time you will notice that he is kind and he care about his students.
Read the syllabus, you will see everything you need. Getting an A will be really hard but passing is easy if you submit all your assignments on time. He is hard but definitely honest. You will enjoy every class because he is really fun! Do not take him if you will not submit your works, because no extra credits but take him if you wanna enjoy.

Professor Carlos is one of the hardest professors I ever had last semester. I was in his F32A class. Sometimes it was ridiculous of me showing up to his class just to do peer review for 20 mins then class ends. Doesnt agree w/ you when it comes to your papers. Doesnt give you a chance to get your grade changed. I do not recommend him !
Carlos's class is by far one of the most difficult, and for no reason. The assignments were not ideally spaced out and his lectures are basically him rambling on and never really teaches anything or say anything useful. He's a tough grader as well. Don't take his class.
If you are not an essay writing this professor is not for you. I am not a fan of this guy. During class he would be talk fast and it would get overwhelming and hard to keep track. The way he speaks sets a negative tone. Not recommended.
I know Dr. Schroder gets a bad rep, probably bc he is VERY SARCASTIC & it may rub a few the wrong way. A tough ass grader but he will help you if you show the drive to succeed. Professor Schroder's class is unnecessarily difficult for an ENG 111 class, only take him if you are a strong writer. If you do take his class, ask him day 1 what you need to do to get an A on a paper. You cannot write like a person just out of high school taking ENG 111 during your first semester, you will fail if you do that.
He is good
He is the most brutal and harsh professor anyone can take. You notice from day one that he wants to destroy you throughout the semester. His tone and communication sets the stage for repulsive feelings working throughout the course. Taking a class with him is the most time consuming and biggest rip off during a college career.
This class is overtly political. This is an entry level English class, but it feels more like a poli sci class. The papers you will write seem to follow his politics, and lack clear instructions and grade criteria. sign up early if you want to have a real English course. Not sure why NOVA continues to employ someone ineffective with the students.
Be present and participate! If you can't do these simply thing's then go somewhere else but if you can complete these tasks he is a great professor. Gives good feed back and challenges you and your ideas to make you think critical.
He will push you. He will stretch you. He cares a lot. If you are struggling, talk to him. He will help you! But he can only work with what you give him; you have to meet him halfway. He is more blunt and expressive than most teachers. When he is annoyed or unhappy with you, you will know it. Don't worry if he scolds you; it's from love.
