epitomizes the classical intellectual, take his class if your self motivated and are mature enough to handle conversation
I want to be a professor!! Easy paycheck for doing nothing...... umm, he isgreat for contact info in New Haven.
Worst Class Ever!
Good introductory class for ed majors. Very smart guy who has been many different places.
Encourages discussion about topics that are NOT important for the first education class that is required. Is unclear about your grades. Tells you he will accept one thing and then does not accept it. VERY BAD HAIR
If you want an easy A take this class.
This is a great class for anyone who is just starting out as an Education major. There are very few assignments and lots of discussions on classroom related issues. If you are mature enough to handle it, you will get a lot out of this class.
Smart man who loved the New Haven School Board. The only thing reason this class was not a complete waste is because I got to do my 40 hours of observation time and it confirmed my goal to teach. This class is an easy A for doing mindless busy work.
The whole class was a waste of time.We learned absolutely nothing.it's an intro class for edu and he never showed us how to do a lesson plan, not even one. and our term project was a unit plan, go figure. it's a waste of time and money.
Class was easy....very boring 2.5hrs though, especially first thing on monday

Slept through the endless presentations. Should be back in the board of ed. Meant to be an adminstrator, not a teacher.
great class! Smart professor.
Enjoyed the class, found the presentations difficult as he wasn't as clear as he might have been about the requirements. Learned a lot from both DOING and SEEING the presentations.Enjoyed very much his real world experiences- a man who cares about kids.
Class was straight. Hard to focus to at 8 in the morning though, but overall good fieldwork experince not that much work has to be done, so far it looks like an easy B or A...hopefully. Like the discussions in class, hes there alot to help too.
horrible professor very unclear with what he wants and is an extremely unfair grader. does not teach anything and then gives bad grades based on that. he doesnt even teach anything about lesson plans. DO NOT take this class with Torre take greengross or however you spell it
Dr. Torre says a lot of nothing. His class speeches are totally empty and meaningless. His Chaos Theory is completely asinine and probably applies to his brain patterns.
watch out for the fake hair !!!!!!!
AVOID at all costs. He tells you he wants something and then totally changes it!!! I took him last semester and i STILL have not gotten my final grade! Hard to get an answer from him, have to chase after him like a babysitter
absolute idiot, only cares about his own opinions... AND HE HAS A FAKE MULLETT! BEWARE: EDU 413 NOW REQUIRES YOU TO PASS THE PRAXIS AND DO 40 ADDITIONAL HOURS IN A URBAN SETTING!!!!!!!
bad wig. sleeps in class even during our presentations--then gives us a grade. Narcaleptic should not be on any board of ed if he can't educate future educators. a joke.
Umm...the mullet is almost too much to bear. He has good intentions but in the end you learn NOTHING from him. Avoid him. I don't "HATE" him... but Torre is a good example of how and why the superb Education Program at SCSU is such a JOKE.
yeah..if you wanna learn from Barry Gibb take the class but if not, run. If you wanna learn about elephants and hunters and gatherers, he's your man..maybe he should be in the anthropology dept. Anyways, don't take this class with him, although you may have no choice now..and watch out for the field work, it absolutely blows
Although I agree with most of the comments regarding his ridiculous mullet, and his boring style, he is really not that bad. He does grade a bit unfairly but not to the point of ruining a good GPA. I thought I deserved an A and I got an A-. All in all, avoid him if you can, but you won't die if you can't.
OMG the hair has to go!!! the only thing i remember is the elefent screen saver!!! you learn NOTHING!!!!!! thank god it was not my first edu class or else i would not was to be a teacher, or at least not one like him!!!!
Alot of discussion about current topics going on in schools. Pretty much just do whats on the syllabus and do it on time. Very easy. Very laidback. Pretty good introduction to education I might say.
Dr. Torres is outright BORING! You will learn absolutely nothing from him. His Mullet is FAKE! Don't need to read the textbook. Waste of money! Lectures are boring and hard to stay awake for. However, the few graded assignments are EASY! You learn the most out of the 40hours of fieldwork, which was fun. For an easy "A", Take him!
I honestly loved Torre. At first he had a horrible rap and I felt like i was "STUCK" with him. I had a bad attitude entering.. Take this class with friends and you will have a BLAST. easy work. no tests. 2 presentations (VERY EASY). honestly a very INTERESTING man. more entertaining than educational. not full of formal edu info..but an easy class.
wide ranging weaving of connections among topics
If you want to learn nothing then this is the class for you. Get an easy A but will have to suffer by listening to his voice.

He's a nice guy but his class is downright boring. He doesn't teach anything, the only beneficial part of the course is the field placement. The book is useless because you don't learn anything anyways...also in having an 8am class about 25% of the class will be there on any given day...it hasn't been full since day 1
This professor has a big ego and loves to hear himself talk. What a waste of time to sit in his class! I learned nothing.
What an awful class, Torre is more concerned with spreading his views on president bush than teaching you anything about education!! He never responds to emails and consistently loses projects/grades. Don't look for him during his office hours, he won't be there. VERY poor teacher, unintelligent, waste of time.
Very nice guy but his class is such a waste of time. You really don't do anything of substance. The field work is the only part of the class that you actually do something for.
SOOO glad it's over! What a waste. The most beneficial is the field work. The classroom work is pointless and he talks and talks without making connections. Brags about Yale all the time, and loses everything so keep copies and don't bother with email either. I hated going to this class!
He is a great guy who cares about teaching a great deal. I had a problem in the middle of the semester and he spent time on the phone with me while he was vacationing in Puerto Rico and set up a meeting for me with the Superintendant which may have saved my carreer. I learned alot about myself taking this class. Take him.
A compassionate, innovative professor. Gives a realistic picture of public school education without getting too depressing. A good way to start the education program.
OUTSTANDING TEACHER
This class is a waste of time. Most of the time I am either laughing about his bad wig and painted on beard or his awful outfits! Better yet I don't even come to class. I do enjoy the field work and learn alot from the teachers at the school that I am doing my observation. So if you want an easy A and a good laugh take this class!!
Boring boring boring boring. I can't even stay awake in his classes. The good thing is that everyone gets A's!
Professor Torre has three Ph.D's from Harvard, was a Dean at Yale plus many professional distinctions. Why he bothers to help a bunch of teachers in training baffles me. Humble and sincere, he is trying to improve the teaching environment for children and quietly trying to stir change. The class is seminar format:you have to contribute or be bored.
Lots of in class discussions and group projects. No note taking, no exams. The class really helps you to analyze why you want to teach and how you are going to do it.
He is a very nice guy who loves to talk about education. The reading wasn't bad but he didn't push us to get it done. You have to do 40 hours of field work but it goes quick. The best part of the class was the class trips to area schools. Take this class if you need 413 its easy, helpful, and Dr Torre is always willing to help.
Easy, easy class. No need to attend, all class discussions and a couple group projects. No exams! Required to do 40 hours of field work so keep in mind when registering. Easy A!
This class was so easy. Once you get the field work out of the way its smooth sailing. Professor Torre gets off topic so easily in class that you rarely do anything except talk and you dont have to participate. He'll help you decide if you want to be a teacher
Great guy but you really need to get on his case. He lost my Final which was my student portfolio for his class. He gave me an Incomplete, e-mailed him constantly, wasn't in his office when I had free time (work/school full time) and I failed his course because of it.
prof torre is a good guy. at times he can get side tracked in class and he doesn't always respond to emails but his class is extremely easy, what else could you ask for. id rather deal with a teacher who gets side tracked at times than one who is like a drill sergeant. bottom line, nice guy, easy class
Dr. Torre is one of my favorite teachers that I've taken at Southern. You learn a lot about teaching from him. There are fieldwork/observation hours that you need to do, but if you get those out of the way, you're in the clear.
I learned nothing in this class. We go to class everyday and he just talks. We did not have any quizzes or tests. You just need to make sure you get your observation hours in on time, and that's about it. He is extremely boring.
My favorite class this semester. Sure, it's basically a "propaganda" course, but it can be interesting at times. It's impossible not to get an A as long as you do what is expected- which isn't a lot; just fieldwork hours, a reflective essay, portfolio, and group lesson plans. He's a lil disorganized but his mystical hair makes up for it. #TeamTorre
This was one of the most POINTLESS Classes I've Ever Taken at SCSU. He Disorganized . There no point going to class all he does is talk about his life. He never responds to emails he will loose your papers or mix them up. Honestly he is the worst and i wouldnt Recommend taking him Oh and DONT Buy the textbooks its a waste of money
I enjoyed this class, as long as you have an opinion on the education system you will be fine. You write a lot of papers, but there short and some are interesting. He is all about how the education system was in the "olden days." Overall, pretty easy class, just boring sometimes.
An easy A as long as you do all of the assigned work. However the prof. Torre rarely answers his email and is very unorganized. He talked a little too much about his life and opinions and not enough about today's current education systems. Therefore, his lectures can sometimes be long and boring. He cares a lot about participation too.
I got an A+ without really trying. Lots of short 1-2page papers and 2 group papers that are due at the end of the semester, don't wait until last minute. He's sometimes confusing as to what he wants but tries to clear it up. His lectures are boring but gives good life experience situations
As long as you come to class and do your group assignment work, the top grade is yours. if you do nothing in the class, then you get what you deserve. It is not a hard class for the Education level classes, just do the work and follow the syllabus, you will be okay. I would take his class all the time if i could.
You can really tell this guy was passionate about teaching, however his lectures got to be on the boring side, but it was a very easy A.
Taking this class with Professor Torre was probably the easiest class I have ever taken. Just show up and do the group projects and you'll pass. The thing I hated about him was how much he talked about nothing and how little help he gave students regarding field placements. If I ever have to do a field placement with him again, I'll go insane.
Easy A but Professor Torre tended to go off topic a lot in class and didn't really teach anything that useful. Do your group project and show up and you will be good.
This class can really be boiled down to be a half semester class. The Education department really needs to communicate better with its students on how to apply into the department as this class should have done. We were even placed late and still expected to complete our hours, Mr. Torre said "Well just go in during finals week."
no tests or homework, just one large group project and one mini group project
I got away with not buying the textbook. Torre is really nice and lenient but he tells the same 10 stories (some are intersting though) all entire semester ALL CLASS. Classwork was barely done because he talked the entire time without even realizing it. all in all, great person to hear stories from but not a productive class.
Professor Torre is a great person; teaching just is not for him. He tells the same stories over and over, grading policy is extremely unclear, he is totally unreachable outside of class, and you don't need to buy the textbook to pass the class although it's mandatory. This class is a waste of time. It's definitely not necessary to become a teacher.
Professor Torre seems like he means well, but his class was not helpful for me. Made me debate wanting to be in the EDU program. I anticipated learning about principles of education but I don't feel like we learned about that at all. The textbook is kinda optional but it is helpful for the ungraded assignments we had. I took this class online sync.
I really like Prof. Torre has a person, but he tends to ramble a lot and I dont feel like we learn much about being educators. The work outside of the class does pertain to being a teacher but the discussions in class.
He goes on lots of tangents and a lot of what he talks about sounds a little far fetched. He clearly cares about teaching and all that which is great, but he loses his focus a bit. The homework does have to do with teaching so if you put effort into that, you'll probably get something out of the class.
Professor Torre overall was a good professor. He does tend to get off track and talk about other stuff and tends to forget what he talks about last class and will repeat himself, but he is an easy professor. I did love the field experience I was able to do from the class and don't forget to do the term project for the end of the semester.
Professor Torre is very nice and genuinely cares about his students and his subject of study. He does sometimes go on tangents but overall the assignments are informative even though they can take a good amount of time.
Professor Torre cares about his students and wants to help them succeed. However, many of the lectures felt like tangents and I didn't really get the connection to being an educator at times.
Torre is an awesome professor, I'm actually sad to leave his class this semester. He has made me realize why I really want to teach. He gave this assignment, where he asked the class to draw a teacher who changed their lives in some way, and everyone finishes in 1minute. That was an extremely powerful thing to see. 10/10 class, 10/10 professor.
He has a good heart and wants you to succeed but forgets what he is teaching due to going on long stories that he often retells. The field experience you get from the class however is very helpful. The lectures themselves though were a bit of a drag, having the same conversations for multiple class periods.
Easiest A ever. He doesn't really tell you what assignments are due so follow the syllabus for sure, he gives As for everything so just do the work and you'll be fine.
I had Professor Torre for Edu 200, the best Professor out there he cares for his students and even though the lecture is sometimes heavy he makes it interesting. I would take him again, this class had 20 hours of fieldwork, and the Professor was very accessible.
He's a sweet guy that gives easy assignments but his lectures were very rambly and I didn't learn much from them. He also wouldn't give feedback and then tell us to edit our papers based on his feedback.
Great guy, kind soul, great philosphy.
Prof Torre is a really nice guy, class can be a little bit rambly as others have said but usually you're talking about somewhat interesting stuff. Definitely try to stop/interrupt him if he starts telling the same stories he's told before (it will happen)
Prof Torre is a kind guy, this class is more about being connected with others, and he teaches a lot of empathy and understanding towards children. Very inspirational guy. There's no reason you shouldn't be passing in this class as long as you show up and do the assignments.
PLEASE PARTICIPATE. Class goes by so much quicker with discussions. Workload is not heavy. PLEASE PARTICIPATE.
Dr Torre was a very gentle soul, full of stories, life experiences and fostered genuine care in his class and his students. He has a bad rating as in truth, those who have taken education classes in any variety will already know the material when speaking specifically on the teaching aspect. He rambles a lot but the class is an easy A and was fun!
Professor Torre's class is extremely boring. He only talks about himself and his life in every lecture. I probably can't tell you one thing I learned from him this semester. If you want to learn and can pick a different professor, you should.
overall amazing professor. He was super caring and helped so much with all work. He really cares about his students and all the work was super manageable. if your interested in education he is absolutely amazing. I would take again he is a very funny and nice guy!
He's an okay teacher but the classes get boring over time, like really boring. He tend's to talk about himself in lectures and connect them to the material in some ways. I will admit I was pretty confused again, a ok teacher.
