Prof James is greatly insightful and one of the deepest individuals i have ever met.

Professor James will make you became aware of yourself and your environment. His classes are very in depth and very interesting. His class alone will serve as a solid base for anyone interested in pursuing psychology in the future.

Hello!!! Love has EVERYTHING to do with Psychology just like any other emotion. Just because he doesn't focus on scientific facts does not discredit him. This man has a lot of really good ideas on what drives human beings to be who they are and do what they do. I will never for get this class!

This teacher is different from any teacher i have ever had. He is really a great teacher. I know he talks about love and relates pretty much everything to love, but it is so interesting. I especially like when he talks about personal experiences he has gone through. Take this class :)

Really good teacher. Dr. James focuses on things that can help somebody in real life. Of course he ties everything to love! All of life is very related to love. His class can be difficult if you don't read the textbooks. I was able to get a C+ in Gen. Psych just by listening to his lectures.

Pretty easy class. If you read the text- and he tells u every sentence that is going to be on the test- and listen to his 10,000 lectures on love, u can get an A.

I took Systems Spring of '04, felt like I learned nothing, then went on to grad school in psych somewhere better than Rutgers and realized just how much I learned with him. I actually ended up using class notes and text books as refernce materials for a graduate level theories of psych course.

Class is mad boring and only talks about love. Not sure why this guy got such a good report. If you can, take any other professor besides him! Lost passion for what he does ages ago and doesn't care about the students. And his eyes are really freaky!

Both courses I've taken with James,class starts off really slow and comes to a standstill mid-semester. During the last month, there is a huge rush to get through material, and the readings are overwhelming. Another point-class often feels like a cult. Too many weirdos-gotta be there to understand

While he's obviously enthusastic his enthusiasm fails to carry over to the students attending his lectures. He is a good professor and his class is more than standable. His exams are so insanely easy. He teaches mysticism psychology, so if you're a cognitive/behavioralist, you'll probably be bored to tears. Those actually interested in psychotherapy will love his class. He was once a successful CB psychologist, but now is against it hardcore (for good reason, too).

Controversial stuff but if you keep an open mind, he offers a very interesting perspective that can become a piece of the way people practice clinical psychology. Especially if you tend to side with the bio persepctive, this will give you a new one.

"dr. loves's philosophy" is pretty interesting and he is simply a good guy. he tells you exactly what to memorize! i wouldn't take any other psych prof.

He does talk about love a lot, and you'll definately learn something valuable from his class. He also teaches his own way which gives you a very realistic view on the emphasis the market has on psychiatric drugs, treatments, etc. As long as you go to class it should be an easy A. So far it's the easiest and most intersting class I've had so far.

This class is easy as long as you treat it with the same legitimacy as you would with a pure science course. Many people underestimate this course on a large part due to the fact that it is considered part of the "humanitarian sciences. This class is very straight forward. Don't listen to other comments. He makes us read 4 books + his (long) manuscript. All tests are based on his opinion; no hard facts AT ALL about abnormal psychology. ("Everything is caused by the love-loss dynamic.") If you go to class and take notes, the exams will be EASY. He cusses frequently & sometimes I think he does it to come off as a "cool professor." I'd take him again.

I LOVE THIS MAN! I had him for Systems & his seminar. The exams in systems are trickier than you think, but an A is most certainly possible. If you're a psych major and have a chance you must take his seminar! It was such a rewarding class, it was the highlight of week. I would get up at 8:30am every Monday, + go to Douglass, only for this man :)

I had James for 101 and abn. and currently for systems. I can't fathom at all why he would ever get a bad rating, hes smart (ph.d and psy.d) and very entertaining. Yes, he loves love, but he's just tryin to demonstrate another way of looking at psych. Very good prof if ur into clinical psych. He talks alot about his experiences as a therapist.

I wasn't too thrilled with his preoccupation with humanistic and psychoanalysis psychology at first but his ideas caught on and I enjoyed his class. The tests are pretty easy provided you go to class and do the readings.

This man changed my life. Oftentimes, we rely too much on science when sometimes, analyzing emotions and the environment is important as well. He gives you a diff. perspective, and admits that he comes off a bit arrogant. You must attend class for a grade higher than a B, but he spoon-feeds you the important info. This man will change your life.

James gives u a mid-term & non-cumulative final, tells u which pages to study for each exam, and gives a nice curve at end of semester. I got a B by doing the readings 1 week before each exam. Who gives a crap that he talks about love? Take the course and boost your GPA.

Class was ridiculously easy. Go to lectures, takes notes, listen, & underline anything he quotes. I didn't want to take the class, but then I loved it. I studied for the midterm & got a B+, the noncumulative final I just skimmed the material for an hour or two & got a B+. And wow, I can't believe people are complaining.

He doesn't really "teach". He expects you to read the assignments and then it's an open discussion in class so it's pretty laid back. If you focus on the readings, you can easily pass this course. Attendance is not mandatory but show up just enough to get a feel for his opinions cuz it will be on his exams. Don't stress the luv talks. Who cares?

The people who complain about Professor James are the lazy ones who don't ever go to class and for whatever reason are dumbfounded when they don't get an A. Professor James is very insightful. I loved his course. It was easy as long as you paid attention in class and did the readings (I thought that was a standard requirement in college anyway). He really has insightful opinions about the origin of psychological problems and I also enjoyed learning about the fraud and fabrication perpetrated by pharmaceutical companies.

great professor.There's a curve and he tells you what to study for on the test.Attendance isn't mandatory but you definitely have to go to his lectures.As long as you highlight and study everything he tells you to, you should be fine and he has pretty interesting stories. He is interested mainly in love and psychoanalysis. He neglects to stress the importance of anything else really, and you teach yourself a lot from the textbook.

He is passionate about what he does and teaches in an interesting manor.

Ridiculously easy class. Exams are multiple choice. I missed 4 or 5 classes and I'm still probably getting an A. Read the textbook and you'll do fine. Has unorthodox views of psychology, which are sometimes interesting, sometimes not.

Awesome professor. He's class was fun & relaxing. No work at all. He tells you what to highlight in your textbook. You show up to class & listen to him lecture, which is actually enjoyable. Read the book before the test, study the stuff he told you & you get an A. Really fun and enjoyable class. He's really smart & experienced (he's a therapist).

I highly recommend taking a class with this professor. For one, it's not a hard class; he'll tell you exactly what you need to know. But beyond just that, you'll learn many useful and valuable things about life from this man.

Interesting guy with interesting ideas. You MUST go to class to do well, but as long as you go, it's almost impossible to get anything other than an A. Tells you exactly what to highlight and write down to study. 3 non-cumulative exams that come straight out of what he tells you to highlight in the book. If you don't go to class, don't take him.

Dr. Love! His lectures are usually interesting as he relates almost everything back to love. He wants you to learn concepts, rather than hard specific facts. You HAVE to go to class or atleast have a friend who does because a major portion of his exams are from lecture. He goes through the text with you during class & tells you what to study!

Outstanding psychology professor - like no other. Is one of only two psychology professors in the department with both a clinical and academic psychology degree, so is very experienced in both fields. Maintains his reputation as "Dr.Love", but most people will find his perspective on psychology unique and refreshing. Highly recommend.

GREAT PROFESSOR!!! Really probably the best professor I have had in my 4yrs in RU. Very helpful and insightful. He does talk about love a lot, but that makes the exams easier since you know what to expect. Gives great reviews before each exam. Goes through the texts highlighting what's important. Will def take again if I get a chance. Good luck.

A LIFE-CHANGING COURSE! You must be willing to go in with an open mind. James isn't about science, its about the deeper things in life that seems to have been trivialized with advances in science and other areas. Yes, he relates EVERYTHING to love, but if you truely listen, you'll see it makes sense. This is one course I will never forget!

Last semester here for systems of psychotherapy. I love this prof. He's definitely life-changing and sometimes you will not agree with me (maybe not at all) but if you listen to him with an open mind, i think anyone can appreciate his theories. His exams are really easy. If you really pay attention to what he talks about in class, you should get A.

Took him for both Systems Psychotherapy and Abnormal Psychology. Life changing course. He relates most of his lectures to love, but if you listen carefully, with an open mind, it makes so much more sense. A really great professor that genuinely cares for his students. It's like going to a private therapy session with him.
