She's very "tentative". She's an alright professor. If you like english then you obviously will like this course. But make sure you don't get on her bad side!

Very interesting, knows her material. Guides students through class. The people who complain are the ones who want to sleep through the class and get notes from someone, this is english not math. Anyway, she's a good teacher and gives good direction. There is not a lot of work to do either.

I took her 3 times also Eng 3950. She's awesome and gives great insight to romanticism and gothic literature. Most excellent!! I got A's. And I'm not a Lit freak!

A very sweet professor. She will make an effort to help you if you need it. She is also very fair and her class is pretty straightforward. She likes to talk and go on; makes the class go fast and she dismissed the class early a couple of times.

She is a very good and interesting professor. You must participate and read all the assignments,only then will you pass.Her tests are taken from her lectures on so you are must take notes on everything you disucss in class. If you stay on her good side and are doing poorly in the class she will pass you. If you do not participate good luck passing.

Pretty cool professor, but its true that she favors cute guys over everyone else. You MUST participate to even hope to get anything above a B. I got an A- in the class and that was by takin really good notes--that is KEY

Professor Jordan is a cool teacher. I took her for Romantic Lit and the class was a riot! Most of the stuff we talked about came from the students and she is really into participation. If u want to see the lighter side of Lit, take her.

Well based on what the last person wrote. I can tell you that I am not a guy and I still got an A. I didn't feel her class was that hard. Doesn't collect any hw, only in-class essays and an oral report. That being said, you have to really do well on the essays. I'm sure her higher english classes are harder. Make sure you participate.

GREAT prof. Gives lots of reading but she's really good with reviewing every important aspect. She asks nothing more than what you can give. Her exams are a CAKE if you read the material and all you do it laugh the whole class because the discussions involve everyone and there is always an opinion to be had. I loved her.

She is one of the best english teachers here in baruch. She makes the class interesting, either with some bizarre fact about the story we were covering or by her random quotes and comments. She also has a connection with her students, and she works to turn your weakness into your strength. I would recommend her if you take a lit course.

Amazing! I took her twice in a row and am taking her again. She's knows what she's talking about, gives a lot of reading, but then again, it is an English class. Easy midterm and final and one paper for the entire semester. So nice and helpful.

Awesome professor. She really wants you to love the material and it is actually pretty interesting. She is a great woman, very funny and cool. She really doesnt care much for tests. She just wants you to genuinley enjoy the material. If your a good speaker also def take her.

Prof. Jordan not so bad. She can be a bit quirky, but she's very informative. It's not hard. Just read what is assigned and go to class prepared because there will be discussions about it in the next class. So far we only had 1 paper, midterm, oral report and there will be a final. Do the work and you'll be fine!

Tells you what's on the exams, is funny, sweet, and extremely lenient. As long as you PARTICIPATE in every class and write decently, you WILL get an A. Not a boring class, her life is very interesting, and she is the type of professor who doesn't thrive on giving you work, tests, and papers. 1 paper, 2 tests, 1 small presentation. One of the best!!

She's nice, cool, very interested in English lit, Keats in particular, and she wants you to do well. What more could you ask for?

At first, looks can be deceiving. But she turned out to be one of the few english teachers/professors that I actually enjoyed learning with. Personally I dun like reading, but she made it enjoyable and got everybody engaged. Take her if u wanna get a good grade and willing to work. Also to complete your literature requirement.

She was very nice, her class was always fun. The course was about Gothic Literature. Readings of Dracula, Frankenstein, Wide Sargasso Sea, Jane Eyre, and some poems. She likes her students to participate and be part of the discussions, so you do need to speak. But it was a great experience.

Professor Jordan is a very nice lady. At first, seemed her class would be very hard. Later on, you will find out that's not. And, her class is interesting and the reading assignments she picked are not boring. As a second language speaker, English class is a hard one, especially literature, but she made me even enjoy her class. Recommended!

She is a very good professor. Her class consists of one paper, one short presentation and two "quizzes". Our midterm was a 10 question short answer quiz as I would call it. She is very passionate about teaching and she made the class very interesting. Just stay up to date with the poems and she goes over them in detail in class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

She is the coolest professor at Baruch, although she's over the 60 years old she is still cool! Not an easy grader, but an awesome prof! You actually LEARN (and laugh)

This class is not the easiest, but I have learned a lot in this class. The reading material is interesting and challenging. There are discussions about the texts and she encourages students to participate. The exams can be tricky, so make sure you study. The essay was doable. Work hard in this class and it shouldn't be a problem. Recommend!

Great teacher, very low workload just be ready to discuss the readings in class because participation matters a lot. One short essay (3-4 pages) and 2 short answer tests which are very tricky and on very specific information but she grades them very nicely.

Best English professor in the world. Dr. Jordan is a very passionate woman about English and she have the most adventurous life. The books she chose are really interesting to read and she encourages participation. Her tests are 10 short answer questions and her essay is 3-4 pages, double spaced. Take her, you wont regret it.

Professor Jordan is AMAZING. She is such a kind woman, who just wants to see you try and participate. The poems and stories she assigns for class, are all really interesting. She is always eager to hear your insights, and always provides positive feedback. If you can take her class, DO IT. A REAL GEM.

She is great! Very relaxed professor who cares about her students. She knows many people take this class fulfill the requirement and so she assigns very little work. Again, highly recommended.

If you keep up with the reading (easy) and participate you will get an A! not a very demanding teacher at all. One two page paper, 10 question test + final (which she called a quiz) and thats it. Def take her!

Great professor. Participation matters a lot, so raise your hand and get on her good side. Mostly readings and character analyses for homework. A 3-4 page essay and 2 exams. She gives partial credit and can bump up your grade if you're a good student. All in all, relatively easy class. 10/10 Would take again.

For all my life I hated English. Then one semester I had Dr. Jordan. She is THE BEST!! Professor for English. I now have a profound love for English and will pursue a minor in it. Her workload is manageable. I strongly recommend Dr. Jordan to any English major/minor or any student who wishes to take English at Baruch.

Love Professor Jordan. Really sweet kind woman, cares about including everyone in class and makes sure lectures are interesting as they can be. Carmel Jordan is a great pick for ENG2850. There were 2 very easy exams, one 3 page paper, and thats it! A bunch of readings, but most were short poems, and even if you skim those/read summaries online, you can still get a good grade in the class. Great choice!

You can rent the books you need. 1 paper 3-4 pgs, midterm and final. PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE MATTERS. She discusses in class what we read which will be on midterm and final. I recommend taking your paper to the writing center since she grades it pretty hard because she gives you around a month to do it. Take her if you want a chill course.

Greatest professor I've had in the last 4 years. Obviously you are going to have to read and analize text and she is the best professor to do it with. She sparks amazing discussions about the texts but gives students opportunities to tell their own observations first. She's also just hilarious.

Professor Jordan is a sweet person and a passionate professor. Read the material, be active in class, write your papers well and you are set! I would definitely recommend.

Prof. Jordan is very passionate about literature and it shows. She doesnt over complicate the literary analysis. Assigns minimal work 10 question short answer midterm and final, and one 4-6 page paper. Her readings are fun and you can easily participate just by reading sparknotes.

1 4-5 page paper you get a week to do, 2 10 short answer quizzes covering the 1st and 2nd half of the semester, unclear grading criteria but not a tough grader. its in your best interest to participate, most of the other reviews are very accurate, take her if you want an easy eng 2850 class

Professor Jordan is one of the best professors I have taken at Baruch. She cares for the students and during this pandemic, she made sure to make to check in on us and adjusted the course due to the circumstances. Even before the pandemic, she was active in the class and ready to teach with a passion! Participation and Attendance matter GREATLY!

One of the kindest and most caring professors Ive had in Baruch so far! She was so understanding during the pandemic and was not a harsh grader. She cares about participation and will call on you if you havent participated much, but it isnt that bad.

Professor Jordan is very nice. She is passionate about teaching literature and willing to help her students. She gives many A to student. I got A and did not participate much but did the papers and got A. Participation isn't hard just state your opinions about text. Her assignments are easy and her readings are mostly short poems which can be skim.

I absolutely loved professor Jordan. I hated literature before coming here but she made it a lot less intimidating. Incredibly understanding and only had two written papers. The whole class is discussion-based, so just make sure to read. Also plan on showing up to every class. Great professor and class.

Only 3 papers in the class. Make sure that you attend each and every class. She takes it against herself. The selection is poetry-heavy and not pleasant to analyse. Listen and make notes each class, there is no your opinion. It is either hers or the wrong one. I got a C on the paper just because her opinion didn't match with mine.

This professor is the sweetest person ever. She makes boring readings interesting. If I could I would take her again. She grades a little harshly on the papers but it was kinda my fault that I was saving things last minute so please keep up with the readings and you will be fine.

I would highly recommend taking Professor Jordan for English. There are two short papers, and they are easy if you listen and take notes in class. You have to be ready to discuss the reading every class, and she will call on you if you don't participate.

EASIEST PROFESSOR EVER!! All you have to do is read and participate, she gave two essays throughout the semester and gave feedback as well. Just show up, do the readings and participate and you'll get an A. She's also very sweet and funny, HIGHLY recommend her.

Such a sweet lady. She is the only professor you should be taking for ENG 2850. She makes the class very easy to pass. Please just make sure to attend everyone. Don't take advantage of her kindness. She focuses on participation in class more than anything. Check the syllabus and see what reading needs to be done. Also buy the textbooks on time

Professor Jordan is a very knowledgeable and inspirational person. As long as you read the readings and participate once in a while, you'll do great. There was 1 exam (the other was canceled) that covered exactly what was discussed in class, so make sure to pay attention! As long as you are respectful and participate a little, she'll be very nice.

Take her. Only 1 essay, a midterm, and a final. The only homework we got was to prepare the readings for the next class, which I never did. If you show up and pay attention you will do good. Easy A

She's good. Doesn't assign too many readings. Just make sure to read what is assigned for the following lectures so that you could be prepared to participate. She only gave 1 paper, 1 midterm, and 1 final which weren't hard as long as you did the readings and paid attention in class. She tends to interrupt a lot when you speak tho.

An amazing professor would be an understatement. Really passionate about the class and cares about all of the students. There is no such thing as a dumb question in her class - she makes sure you understand everything to be well prepped for the exams. As long as you put in effort (ex. speak at least once in each lecture), you are fine. Take her!!!

Professor Jordan is amazing and so were her lectures. I enjoyed her class! Participation does matter so just make sure you do the readings and have something to add. If you pay attention you shouldn't have a problem. If I were an english major I would take her for every class I can.

Dr. Jordan's class was easy for those who read and listen. 2 exams, 1essay, and 1 spoken report are reflected on what is discussed in class so try not to miss too much. She talks a lot and sometimes steamrolls over students. If you participate a lot she will get a habit to ask you to speak even if you didn't offer. Overall enjoyed the class.

You need to read the readings given, but can skim the readings if you want to. She tends to speak for most of the time and only calls on the same students who participate, or if she knows your name. Read and participate. Easy A

Professor Jordan truly cares about her students. The class is pretty easy overall, with 2 simple exams and one writing assignment. She goes out of her way to accommodate students with any difficulties and I couldn't recommend her more. She shares insights from her life and is pretty funny throughout the lectures.

She is the most wholesome, amazing professor I've had at Baruch so far! Her lectures are so interesting and she shares her own personal life experiences while making the reading discussions super interesting. I definitely recommend taking her class, she truly cares about her students.

One of the best professor's I've had. Super compassionate about reading and poetry, she really loves to engage with students so don't be shy to raise your had and talk. Highly recommend you take her for an easy A!

Very enthusiastic about the subject but about cultures as well, she was always really curious about her students. Participation matters very much. Good amount of reading but very easy to do, you have time to read them. Had maybe one or two easy essays. Midterm quizzes were about whatever was discussed during class so attendance matters. Yapped 24/7

2 Tests, 1 essay, stories from 2 books (cheap), attendance. Tests based on concepts covered in-class which derive from the stories. Prof loves love and is very passionate about literature, especially the contents covered in class. Attendance is highly recommended as some Q's are the exact same stuff from lecture.

I really enjoyed this class. There's a lot of readings, but the assignments throughout the course are pretty light. Some of the readings were a bit long and did drag on, but the in-class discussions were super helpful for the midterm and final, so make sure to attend most of the classes.
