I thoroughly enjoyed this instructor. She's down to earth & very smart. She'll answer any question whenever you need her to. She's completely logical and will work to benefit you and your grade. The class is very interesting. There are no tests. Chapter presentations are easy, use youtube vids! The debates are difficult & nerve racking.

Professor Phelan taught my English 102 course. She is funny, witty, and extremely helpful. She is a great professor.

She is a great teacher. I loved her class and the assignments were fun and easy if you like to write. I think anyone could achieve an A as long as you try your best and if you pay attention to what the assignment is asking you to do.

She is a really nice and well educated teacher with an Australian accent. Be prepared to defend yourself when it comes to your political standpoint. Don't try to argue with her on her policies though because she'll rip you in half. The class goes through some controversial subjects, but you do end up with a better understanding of things.

She is great! she gets you really invloved,values your opinions wether or not she agrees. she talks about alot of heavy stuff, but i have learned so much in this class and had a blast doing it.she does do alot of group projects so be careful of who you pick for your groups.you dont want to be the one stuck doing all the work like i did. Outstanding teacher! Really makes you think about your values. The classmate was offened when Prof Phelan asked her not to speak spanish in class needs to learn some manners! The request not to speak spanish in class was a reasonable request.

awesome, unconventional teacher. inspirational- she has a lot of fight. it is refreshing to talk with someone who isn't jaded and who firmly believes that everyone can make a difference. people may think she pushes her views, but its more like she pushes you to have your own. she's realistic- the world can be cutthroat too. Definately recommend!

i took this sum class. even though there was lots of arguing in the class. it was still really fun. she was really helpful on every assignment. not really using txt book. i only read one chapter i needed to do a presentation with. no test at all. highly recommended

Professor Phelan was an awesome English 102 teacher. As long as you do the work and put an effort to it, she'll give you a good grade. She's a very fair grader. Helps out students, and a very open-minded teacher. PLEASE TAKE HER CLASS FOR ENG 102. It won't get any easier =)

She's an amazing teacher. She is flexible and reasonable as long as you're not rude. She'll do anything to make you understand and pass. She WANTS you to succeed and be passionate about something. I HIGHLY recommend her.

Loved this class & instructor! No quizzes or final IF AND ONLY IF she sees that the class is reading the textbook. You have to do a chapter presentation, debate, and research paper but that's it!Some group work is required; she makes you see things differently, I loved it!

Absolutely amazing teacher. Best I've had. I hate philosophy as a subject, but she made this my favorite class this semester. She's very engaging, and very good at what she does. No tests were given, just discussions and several projects. I highly recommend her!

Wonderful women and great instructor. She is engaging and loves to argue. Beware if you do not agree with her point of view she will strike you down in front of the whole class. She excepts everyone and their backgrounds. The class can get a little personal and intense at points but its worth your time!

Most Phil 102 classes are hard because they only focus on logic. Phelan's class covers the whole book and does not focus on the difficult material. Professor Phelan is amazing! NO TESTS, QUIZZES, and or EXAMS! EASY A! She teaches things that will help open your eyes to the world. She is humble and sweet! TRUE COLLEGE PROFESSOR!

Very nice teacher, relates the topic to her personal life very often. But, super easy A simple tasks, understands your probems and doesnt go bu the book so much wich keeps the class interesting. Will defently try to brain wash you, whic hcan be a good thing!!

If you can put up with her strong socialistic opinions, then this class is a super easy A. I didnt mind her because I can voice my own opinions right back and catch her in her contradictions. (LOL) When you first meet her, she's very intimidating but after a while, I learned that she's a sweetheart.

She is a great profesor. Very intimidating at first but throughout the semester you find out she's very interesting and opinionated. She's ausralian with a thick accent, and likes to incorporate her own life stories into her lessons, which is entertaining. There isn't a final exam, just large projects and deep class discussions.

Amazing course. I loved it the whole way. She can be a bit intimidating if your not a critical thinker but its in your best interest. Don't speak unless you can intelligently defend yourself. I truly eye opening class. She makes you think about many things you have never questioned before. As long as you're open minded you'll love it. This class is easily one of my favorites.

Amazing! I absolutely loved her. Gets you thinking differently. Her class is an easy A as long as you turn in all of your assignments. Doesn't always take attendance, but I promise you won't want to miss her class. All assignments, except one essay, are simple reflections of your own work, movies, or other things. You won't regret taking her class!

Ms. Pandey was by far my favorite professor thus far. I took her for my PHIL 102 course and she will push you to think critically, challenge information, and make your own judgement based on logical conclusions. Highly recommended.

Carmel Phelan is the BEST Phil102 teacher at CSN! You have 5 EASY assignments in class. An essay review on Sicko, a class debate, ch. presentation, APA research paper, and a socratic dialogue. This class cannot get any easier. Arrive on time! She expects you to get an "A". If you don't, you are just being a lazy student

THE best teacher ever. Everything is hands on and more student based curriculum. Everyone got along in the class, everyone shared their own opinions and had a chance to be heard. Definitely and eye opener for me. Everyone should be passing with an A. No tests. No quizzes. Your assignments is based on group work projects and participation.

She is great teacher, but very opinionated.I sometimes found myself frustrated with the lack of understanding that came from her.Overall, I was pleased with the course,pretty easy, just be aware of her "no excuses" attitude.

Prof Phelan is very interesting and intimidating. First day she might scare you but make sure to come back because she is very inspirational and will make you step outside your usual thinking. You could easily troll this Prof because that's how challenging in conversation she could be, but don't lol, because you will lose. Super easy and AMAZING.

Her lectures really make you question a lot if you're an open minded person. I suggest going in that way. Sometimes she will argue with you if your values differ from hers but she really respects you putting your opinions out there. She is super democratic so if you're so conservative that it will affect the way you listen, don't take this class.

Wow!!! That's all I can say about professor Phelan!! She's amazing and definitely has the feel of a Ivy League college professor! Her personality is out of this world unbelievable! She makes you think and challenges you in the way a college professor should! This has to be in my top three favorite classes since I came to this college! Take Her!!!

This is a very easy class, and the professor is sweet, but be forewarned: she talks about her personal life a lot and it often has little to do with the class. She also shows a graphic documentary about animal slaughter around the beginning of the semester, and it's very upsetting.

Professor Phelan is one of a kind. She has a clear cut idea of how the world should work and she is not afraid to let her students know how she really feels. Get ready to participate in class and have an open mind.

This woman is amazing, going into college you may have an idea about how the world works, but this professor will open your mind and your perspective on so many levels. She does many group projects, the class mostly consists of group presentations and in class discussions so good attendance is key. Debates are done as well and taken very seriously!

As long as you have a legitimate reason (i.e. in the hospital or in a car accident) and can explain why you were out she will not hold it against you. Shes a great teacher and make Philosiphy fun and easy to learn. Do the work and put in genuine effort and you will do well in her class.

She is a very intelligent women this is a class where you can share your points of view and sometimes she might challenge you but that is her job, it's philosophy where critical thinking is involved she might tell you her points of view but she never tells you what to think. She teaches you to think. Her knowledge is incredible.

Professor Phelan was the best professor I've had in my college experience thus far. Yes, she will bring up very controversial topics. Yes, she will give you plenty of warnings as to how she teaches and encourages you to withdraw if it isn't for you. Definitely purchase the book, and have a very open mind.

Students do chapter presentations in class. dialogue speech to help research paper, debates. gives extra credit if you join more than one group for chapter presentations or debates. don't take if offended easily!! she wants you to think outside your comfort zone.

This professor is not here to waste your time. She is very strict and won't let anything slide but its so worth taking her class. One of the best professors I have and probably will ever have. The material is thought provoking and meant to get your out of your comfort zone. I really enjoyed and would highly recommend.

Wow, where do I start. The best teacher Ive had in all of my years in education. Such a very interesting person and soul, someone who truly cares about the well being of others no matter what differences they have. Not only a great professor but a great person and class. Would definitely pay to take this class again. I wont ever forget!

In the beginning, I did not like her but after the first few weeks she becomes a lot better, she wanted to make it clear that she does not tolerate disrespectful people. there are about 3 or 4 group projects (all pretty easy) there's not a lot of work to do very easy A. she is one of my favourite teachers now and her class was a lot of fun!

The teacher is chill but rants alot of the time, dont buy the textbook you only need it for one assignment. shes a super easy grader and is chill if you dont oppose her views most the time. its a pretty easy A.

Professor Phelan was great! She grades easily as you are there to learn. Although you are there to learn, and you will do a lot of it in her class, it's always easier to agree with whatever she says. She will call you out otherwise. There's a final research paper 1500+ words, Socratic dialogue, debate, and a chapter presentation. Ask for help!!!
