Muy Guapa, Muchas Puertes
I think Senora Zapata is a great Spanish teacher, she really wants you to learn and understand the material she teaches. She makes all instructions clear and praises efforts of students. Great Professor at GRCC. She has a great smiling face and voice.
She is pretty good. she is very patient with her students. the only thing i dont' like is that she gives u a time limit when doing your oral tests! doesnt' seem fair to me.
She is making it harder b/c its the end of the year and its not the most fun. Otherwise she is nice and wants her stuedents to learn. i dont' like how picky she is when it comes to her grading scale.
Really nice lady. Very understanding, and will help you through anything. Excellent spanish teacher too.
She's a pretty good teacher....she doesnt let anything slide..she doesnt like gurls too much...but pretty fair..and easy...you get quized a lot so know your****..

i'd rather take this spanish than the spanish we learn in h.s. she's awsome
one of the best classes i've had here.
Schwing! This babe is totally hot!

She is very hot and she is a great teacher
Very nice and a great teacher!
Great teacher. Recommend class to anyone. Looked forward to her class because she is a good teacher. Also she is the best looking teacher I have ever had. She's a real beauty.
Senora Zapata is a wonderful teacher. When you learn new material, be sure to study it every day. You typically have a pop quiz the next class period, so be prepared! Also, your tests are done in front of the class and are timed. It made me work twice as hard to learn my Spanish! I highly recommend her :)
Very nice and easy to learn from, one of my favorite classes
HOLY COW,DON'T TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING TREATED LIKE A SUBSTANDARD HUMAN BEING.SHE GIVES YOU BAD GRADES IF YOU MAKE HER MAD,SHE DOESN'T HAVE A SET GRADING SCALE SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON.YOU HAVE TO TAKE HER THANKS TO EBELS MAKING THIS CLASS REQUIRED.IT'S LIKE A MONOPOLY OR DICTATORSHIP YOU DON'T GET A CHOICE.WORST EVER!!
Great class, great instructor! Learn the new stuff before a quiz or test and the rest is easy.
She was a pretty good teacher. Except she didnt know who the Beatles are, I found that very odd and slightly annoying.
Very helpful, great attitude. Enjoyed her class thru out the whole semester. A++++++
really tough. but it's good if you really wanna learn. DOES NOT MAKE UP ANY HOMEWORK AND DOES NOT TAKE ANY LATE WORK PERIOD. Just as a warning.
Don't question her on anything. She's right and your wrong! DONT take her class! LOTS AND LOTS of homework. Which I dont mind, however, the amount of it was coming from 5 different sources...very unclear! She gets easily angered.
She is a hot teacher
finally someone that can actually speak the language and teach it. she knows her stuff. study a lot there's so much to memorize. too many outside sources-on line.
She is a really great teacher she is very helpful. In order to sucessed in her clas you have have at least three years of spanish under your belt. If not it would be hard for u to understand the material. But overall she is a really good teacher.
Senora Zapata is the perfect teacher for a SP101 class. She knows exactly what she is talking about. If you plan on going further than SP101 in your college career take her for SP101 and she will build a great foundation for you to continue to build on. She can be demanding at times, but you will learn the material because of it.
She is not a good teacher at all. I didnt know any spanish prior to this class..it is so hard for me. She is unwilling to help students that need extra help. she leaves before classtime is even over. LEARN SOME SPANISH BEFORE TAKING CJ 122
okay teacher. with 2 yrs HS spanish, i found class semi-easy. can move fast so find someone who knows their stuff to help. accepts NO LATE HOMEWORK!!! no "attendance" policy but participation grade.i missed alot of the classes and was brought down from a low A week of exam to a high B- for final grade with no warning. very bad surprise.
Great teacher. I retook this class, because I dropped it the first time around cause it was hard to understand my first teacher. She made it easy to understand, and helps you figure things out until you understand it. Grant it, you have a moderate amount of homework it is useful. And she's a great teacher.
A LOT of hw, but good teacher. Didn't try so hard but got an ok grade. Exam was HARD! def not ready for that surprise, so not too happy with that.
Is a Good teacher. Be prepared to study a lot. When you ask questions about homework or quizes she makes you feel stupid for not knowing. Passes back tests and quizes and homework late. Her teaching style is great though!
Profesora Zapata is one of the best professors at Grand Rapids Community College.

She is one of the best Spanish teachers at GRCC. Make sure you keep up on your assignments!
She is a great teacher and extremely helpful. Senora Zapata is very intelligent and keeps class fun and interesting. Not to mention she is easily the most gorgeous professor on the campus! If you are pursuing a degree in law enforcement this class is definitely a must. I wish I could take her other Spanish classes.
She is really nice, but I took SP 231 with her and it was definately my hardest class at GRCC. I got an A in spanish 102 and then a C in spanish 231.
I really enjoyed taking SP101 with Professor Zapata. She's patient, understanding, a very clear speaker and an all-around good educator. One thing she is NOT, however, is lenient. Take her class, be prepared to work, and even when you do your best on written assignments, expect a B.
bc she was my cuz she was hard on me witch that sucked bc mexican americans take spanish and get a B
Mrs. Zapata is amazing! If you are interested in learning spanish you will do fine. CHILI PEPER for sure!!!
GREAT TEACHER! IF I COULD MEET MR. ZAPATA, I WOULD SHAKE HIS HAND.
Zapata is the best teacher you'll ever have--if you're willing to work. I wish she could teach all my classes! Her classes are very difficult, but as long as you study a lot, you'll do fine. She assigns a lot of homework, but if you do it all, you can't help but do pretty well on the tests.
EXCELLENT. She grades fair, but makes you work for it. It is not an "easy A". There is a lot to learn so there is a LOT of assignments. Be prepared to work, but also be prepared to LEARN. She is a GREAT instructor. Funny too :)
Her class is easy test are always oral speaking in front of the class, and quizes on a regular bases, but if you study the material you should get a easy A. She is very helpful, and a nice person.
She is a good teacher but expects you to catch on right away. She's unfair at grading, she teaches more of a intermediate spanish rather then beginning..if you want to take this class i recommend you have 5+ years of spanish experience
Having had little to no experience in Español, I thought the class would be very difficult for me. But Profe Zapata is an intelligent women and a very good professor who is willing to work with you. Español requires a lot of studying and pronunciation. Class isn't easy but also isn't too hard either, if you study and practice the vocab she gives.
She was an awesome and very friendly teacher. She made the Spanish easy to follow and was always willing to help. If you pay attention, participate (even if you suck), ask questions, do the homework and ALWAYS practice you will pass. Buy a recorder and make flash cards and you will be good to go.
Zapata is a great teacher. She makes sure everyone understands the lesson before she continues the next one. She is a fair grader. Make friends with your neighbors, if you keep to yourself and don't ask questions, good luck. In my opinion, she is a great entry level Spanish teacher and I would love to have her again for 102.
I loved her Spanish class. It wasnt required for my degree and like a lot of other students, we were just taking it for credit, but she was really nice and helpful, and made class an awesome learning experience. Her projects are a little work, but she tries to help her students do well. Definitely recommend.
Too much time was spent working independently vs having actual lectures. She would assign group projects with people who barely understood the material while she would sit back and grade papers from other classes. I loved foreign language classes until I took her class. She did not clearly explain most of the course material & assigned too much hw.
Professor Zapata is a great teacher, and willing to help you but makes you work for your grade for sure. She isn't afraid to call on you if she thinks you haven't studied. Besides that she's super nice, and goes out of her way to get to know her students.
I absolutely loved this class! Professor Zapata made it so enjoyable. Expect a lot of assignments, but I didn't complain because they really helped me earn points that I would lose with tests. We used the book each class period, so never show up without it. My only complaint is that the tests are so close together. Very fast paced class. Take notes
She's a tough grader but is willing to work with you and will thoroughly answer any questions you have. Particicipation is worth a grade so beware, she will call on you in class to answer questions. She's funny and upbeat. I enjoyed being in her class.
I had this professor for SP101 and I had taken 4 years of Spanish in high school, so therefore this class was an easy A for me. However, she uses the entire class to teach and crams a lot in it, so if you miss a class - you miss a lot. She's a really nice person but is not someone who cares about your excuses and she only accepts 1 late assignment.
Class is taught way too advance for beginner Spanish speakers. If you are active or reserve military and have orders do not expect to be given help or a exception on assignments and work.
Class should not be mandatory for police academy, too difficult and not useful for police work.
There was a bit of homework, but it helps your grade with points lost on the tests. Tests are manageable if you put in the study and also do your homework. She is very nice and wants you to succeed! She is a strict but very fair grader. My Spanish is so much better now!
Im in no way a skilled Spanish speaker, but she makes it very easy to pick up and teaches only criminal Justice related terms and grammar that are needed to be a police officer. Starts slow and gradually advances into longer sentences. Made it very easy to learn, and just requires flash card memorization.
Profe Zapata is an amazing professor. I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, so this class has been relatively easy for me. At the end of the day, she wants all of her students to succeed. She is caring and supportive and is more than willing to answer an questions you may have! Lots of class activities, but worth it!
Humorous. Makes you work for your grade, and is fair.
Profe Zapata is an amazing professor! I had her 2 semesters in a row and she taught me so much. There is a good amount of homework, but she explains things clearly and thoroughly. Her tests are hard, but if you study and do the homework, there are no surprises. She really goes above and beyond to make sure all her students learn and succeed.
Prof. Zapata is one great professor. I really struggle with spanish but in no way do I feel that this is one of the instances where I should blame my issues on the teacher. She is funny, very friendly, easy to talk to and ask for help with. My only problem is i oftentimes feel left behind on material when everyone else seems to understand.
Prof Zapata is a very good teacher. You get a lot of assignments for each chapter. You do get called on 1-2 times a day when practicing material. The class was easy, overall. Definitely have to work for your grade.
Señora Zapata is truly a great professor. Although my first day of class scared me, I am glad I didn't drop it. It ended up being really easy IF YOU STUDY YOUR VOCAB. She is pretty funny and sarcastic but gives great feedback if you talk to her one on one about what words you need to improve on or how to say them properly. ¡Qué viva Señora Zapata!
LOVE her, she's the best prof I had@GRCC! Im not a Spanish speaker, and if you arent, be prepared to work hard, but by it truly does make you better. I have taken 2 yrs of Spanish in HS, been to Spanish speaking countries, and have many friends who speak spanish, but learned more in a 14 week class than I have ever before. she needs a raise!
I took her in Spanish 201 and Spanish 231. In class participation and presentations are a huge part of the class. If you truly want to improve your Spanish, I highly recommend taking her. She grades fair and the homework she gives helps your grade if you do poorly on an exam
I would not recommend her. Extremely strict and blames all textbook/online software issues on student and refers them to IT Help (IT cannot solve most of these) The software is just SLOW Also was not understanding of extenuating circumstances and completely left student ignored. $200+ textbook for THREE chapters. Also criticizes mistakes harshly.
She's very knowledgable, just not a good prof. She set due dates as we went, didn't reply to many emails, had a habit of making me (and others) feel dumb for not knowing/mispronouncing something, and she taught in mostly Spanish so her expectations were unclear/unreasonable. Maybe it was because it was virtual, but I hated a class I was excited for
She was not helpful or understanding when students had technology issues. I do not enjoy Professor Zapata's teaching. She is a nice enough person, but in class she is overly critical of students. Teaching students is fine, correcting them in a condescending way isnt. She also did not give us nearly enough time on tests- 90 qs vs 60 mins is crazy...
Always be prepared to plan ahead with due dates because she always goes through them at the beginning of each chapter. This class definitely gets easier as it goes on, but be prepared to invest in a MyLab code textbook, it's required. Never received any feedback on graded assignments and only received it when going through textbook activities.
Prof Zapata barely teaches and relies on reading straight from the textbook and pointless breakout rooms. Her notes are extremely messy, and when she is explaining things she is extremely condescending and sarcastic. She does not make learning a new language a fun experience, but rather an intimidating one. She grades unfairly without any feedback.
Really cool professor, she does stack up a lot of coursework though. She also grades sort of harshly and ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY!! Textbook needed and expect to have many assignments on my lab.
We have had multiple problems with Pearson mylab. On numerous occasions I have submitted a test just for my answers to not be saved. I have email exchanged of this incident happening multiple times. I took this final test, the same thing happened. I have contacted the professor but she won't work with me or any other student on this problem.
I would not recommend taking this professor. I used to love spanish now my passion for it is gone. She can make learning a language very intimidating and she often comes off as condescending. I also don't mind working for my grade but she also over assigns things in this class as well. If you can take a different professor do it.
Zapata likes to immerse you in Spanish. She talks in Spanish (expect when teaching new lessons). Lots of homework (its a language class). She wants you to do your best and try your hardest. It sucked that half my classmates didn't care/do their best in class and out. You could tell she wanted them to succeed and tried to help them to no avail.
She is hyper condescending to you. I'm done with Spanish after her. Tests are so, so hard. We had 8 written prompts on the last test - never communicated. There is not nearly enough time for tests. We started with 25 kids and now we're at 8. There are 9 grades total & you don't receive feedback on writing or presentations unless it is from a peer.
She was great when it came to teaching and really getting you to understand the material. She was amazing at applying it to the real world. She is a tough grader but wants you to improve and be great. The only thing I would warn is she does like to choose favorites but respect her and you'll be just fine.
