In EAC150, he is a very nice teacher.In EAC394, he is still very nice, but he dnt gives high marks. very eassy going in class. now he seems not giving high marks.

Seems like an easy marker, but when you actually get your assignments back you're surprised with a "low" mark. Has no method of evaluation, just his gut feelings about the assignments. Class is boring, corney jokes, overall not an interesting class to take with him.

He is the best teacher i have ever had in Seneca College. He cares about his every student very much and always try to help them not only with English but also their attitude towards life. He is not an easy marker, but through his toughness in marking, students can benefit from it in the future. Be on time and work hard and he will love u.

That's how it's gonna be for you. You come to class and you read texts out loud. Every class! He does not explain a thing. You will write 2 essays and that is ist. Other assignments he checks after exam, well, if he really checks, so you even don't know what you should work on! He actually knows who gets what marks at the beginning of the semester!
The whole semester was wasted. He teaches nothing but humiliation and disappointment. "You don't think."that is always mentioned in class. Students in my class tried hard but only were frustrated by his repetitive harsh comments. Until the last week before final, I am doing his assignment!He just do not know what teaching means.
If i had know he is such a hardmarker i will tranfer to other sections. The thing you learned from him can all be found from textbook. So if you study hard and care about your grades, don't take his class. It will ruin your GPA no matter how hard you work on his class, he already marked you at the start of the semester when he saw you. Judgmental!

Extremely judgmental. Classes are useless. He reads from the textbook because he likes listening to his own voice. Expects full attendance in class and if you don't, he will give lower your mark even further (on top of an already low mark). Ridicules students at will. Do not expect a good mark from his class. Highest marks in class is around 60%.
He is a great professor. Helps you a lot, and very flexible with assignments. I went from a C+ to a B+. All you need to do in his class is to read the instructions carefully, and do exactly what it asks for, and you'll do fine. Yes he is a hard marker. He marks hard so you can learn to improve, and so lazy ppl can try to do some work.

He is an awful teacher. He expects you to know literature at PhD level. He is very very hard marker except his favourites in class. Doesn't explain stories and you never know what exactly he wants.
If you work hard, he's great and treat you fair. The people giving negative comments can't even spell, so no wonder you didn't like him. Learn to spell.
He marks at an university level. The assisgments are not difficult, but if you are looking for an A, this class may not be the one for you. There is a heavy emphasis on story anaylisis, which can prove difficult. I suggest taking this professor if you are up for the counltess proofreads and edits of a seemingly good paper, that you have written.

If you're looking for a bird course, this isn't the one for you. Aiming for a B+ is hard enough let alone an A. You have to read instructions well; must show effort and creative thinking to obtain a good mark...Learn the stories really well. "The more you glean, the better you'll fare."
Carmelo really needs to grade individuals fairly. I received an unsat in his class. I did all of the work and attended every class. He marks way harder than a college marker and because of that, lots of individuals failed, or receive unsat in his course. Now those individuals need to pay for another EAC150 course. He needs to be fired and replaced.
He is too hard. He takes attendance.If you are only late for 5 mins, you have no attendant marks for that day. International students don't take him, he failed all the Chinese and I only got D. One guy in our class passed the language exam of UT but got failed in his class. I always asked him why my essay was so bad, he said nothing detailed.
Extremely nice and helpful. He was very clear on what he expects from his students. All you have to do is attend his classes. Like seriously, why would you skip class? That is not taking your education seriously, especially when you have to pay for post secondary. People skip his classes, miss surprise quizzes and assignments and expect to pass
u just cant study and be prepare for his test. he marks low on assignments. The questions of the test and assignments are all subjective, so it is hard to nail with the right answer. he gives ppl low marks becuz it doesnt match to his beliefs.

I LOVE HIM! When he is teaching a class he makes sure we understands, he is soft spoken and presents him self very well. You will fail his class if your writing in not interesting. When it is not interesting it says that you are not trying and why would he pass when you do not try??
Not a bad guy but a REALLY hard marker. He expects university level papers in a college level course. Would recommend saving your GPA and switching.
He tells you exactly what he wants in the beginning of the course and I can see why most would think he's difficult, but that's his way of helping to improve and become better imo. Attend class and actually listen to instructions. He's gone over previous student's writing and by God, some are awful! Who wouldn't be appalled?

This guy is an awesome teacher. If you attend class regularly, and do the work, there is no WAY you can fail. He tells you and shows you everything he expects from you, and gives you links to websites with additional information and help.

He is a fair teacher, knows how to teach and fairly helpful. But he marks very hard. If your English sucks or have a hard time analyzing passages, then don't take his classes
This is the worst English professor I ever had. Im a 85-75 % average student in all my English classes. But, with him i got 55% in an essay. I was in shock when I saw my mark. Now I don't even know if I could pass with B or c. He doesn't teach much. You won't learn anything new from him. Just avoid him.
Amazing teacher! I did not like him at first because he seemed to be lazy and indifferent to his students. I realized how intelligent he was when he started to discuss the text assigned for the course. He is very helpful, fair, and keeps discussions very interesting. He actually cares for your marks and even encourage you to do better.
He is really a hard marker. The overall average grade of our class is 5.5 out of 10. It is very hard to get B in his class, let alone to get A. If you have any other option, I do not recommend him to be your professor.
He is a great professor. Since I have been a teacher myself, I know the only reason to be a hard marker is because you TRULY CARE ABOUT YOUR STUDENTS! Things he taught me in the first half of EAC150 helped me through the second half which was taught by another professor.I am taking EAC268 with him next semester, knowing that I will be challanged.

His quizzes and tests are easy in his zombie class, but the assignment is a bit difficult. Hash marker & does not justify the marks given; even if you work very hard for it or take the class very seriously. Grading is also structure to lose marks very easily for the whole course, leaving little to no room for error to even get an A (also no grading rubric). A non-personable individual, avoid him if you do not want to ruin your GPA.

Carmelo is one of those professors that are difficult, but the amount of skills I took home from his class are immeasurable. He showed me exactly where my writing was lacking and taught me how to better myself. I was able to see clearly in future courses where my writing has improved in comparison to students who took the easy English profs.
Terrible teacher. My parents work hard to pay for college, and to get a teacher like this who is only there to ruin everyone's GPA is completely unfair. I plan to request that another teacher marks my essays because he marks as if we are PHD post-graduates. It is a first year college English class, chill out and stop taking it that serious
Terrible teacher, doesnt expect what is taught all throughout highschool(which was supposed to prepare us for this). Little chance to raise your marks due to only having 2 essays assigned the entire class.

Have a better judgement once you've met him, since he make seem awkward as a person. He is a lovely teacher and teaches an inspiring meaning in a apocalyptic theme. You need decent writing skills, since it is an English Class. He is there if you ask questions online or in person, but always read and keep up. Fully agree, a tough marker.

Fun Zombie Apocalypse class :) Prof is easy to get along with, he's open to comments and talks without being too lecture heavy. Also if you miss something, for a valid reason not out of laziness, he's cool at giving another option so you can try for marks. I would recommend him for sure.

Neat Gothic course! Prof is friendly and extremely clear on what he expects from the students. Course is a lot of fun; readings are not too heavy and assignments are manageable. Very helpful and wonderful person, would definitely recommend him.
Reading responses are hard, nice guy, interesting course but boring lectures, online responses and discussion boards are easy but the time slot to do them is limited
I took Carmelo's Zombie Apocalypse expecting it to be easy... The grading is absolutely the worst part of this professor. He expects you to be able to write and analyze text like you have a PHD. This is an elective course! My GPA is not supposed to tank because I had to take an optional course. Unless you are a gifted English student, stay away!
This course is graded by 3 assignments and a final exam. One of the assignments is graded at the end of the semester when you cant drop courses but you will be performing from the beginning. I will never take online courses again.

Lots of busy work in a surprisingly boring and unfun course, but was fine otherwise. My friend and I both got As so idk what the person below is talking about. The course wasn't hard at all, just medium amounts of reading, writing, and remembering. It's an English course after all... It was a fine elective. I enjoyed EAC359 much more though.
I read the reviews before taking this class and thought "oh no what have I gotten myself into" I was once a university student who struggled with English/ any course that had constant homework and writing. This course restored my faith that I am capable. It wasn't the easiest course, but Professor Tropiano is FAIR and the course is interesting.
It doesn't matter how detailed your work is, how much effort you put into your explanations or how many references you make to the text. He expects PHD-level analytical essays for every small assignment. If your entries aren't extremely lengthy or "edgy" enough, he will grade you 60% and say your work is generic. This class will lower your GPA.
He was not understanding and did not try to help me when i needed help, he was always rude and snarky in his emails and i did not appreciate it. I would not reccomend anyone to take his classes.
What a demanding . 1. Despite I met all requirements on my essay, he said it was too short and gave me low marks. 8~10 sentences per each question, and I wrote 8 sentences for each of them because that's all I could come up up with. And that's not enough? 2. His feedback is useless.
Stay away from this professor. Super difficult person and grade student based on her feelings. Even if you follow all of the requirements, she will grade you less than 60% unless you are English native speaker. Her course is just additional course to graduate but she make it is more difficult than main courses. Horrible in general.
This class is very difficult to have an A on it. Every discussion board 800 words approximately. Online response 700-1000 words. Stories(readings) are very boring.
The worst professor I ever had, please avoid at all costs. I actually took his SES380 course. Expects long responses even in the most linear questions, uses wikipedia as references. The stories are boring and not even interesting, I was expecting more folklore and recent Japanese horror films. He does not give proper feedback and will give you 60s
Carmelo has a tight schedule for assignments and readings, she gives readings every week and only gives you 2 days duration for it. Not even a week. I mean, what's the point of it? the course is only gen ad and shes making it complicated for students who have many assignments with their other classes.
Very straightforward don't take this professor if you want to save time. lots of essay work you have to finish in just a few days which is almost impossible at some times. Just don't take it
He's a really tough grader and holds discussion boards every week. I always participated a lot in them but forgot to write a comment one week and he really dropped my grade which I thought was pretty unfair lol There are no lectures and there's a lot of stuff to read. It's too much effort for an optional course to be honest.
Hello, I don't believe you should take the courses of this professor. I get high marks in all my other courses - A's and B's - but this professor gives me a C because apparently, I don't write enough sentences. That's the critique - not the content of what I've written! Way he does his grading criteria is stupid. Will lower your overall GPA
He gives us 2 assignments weekly that is too much. 1 of them requires at least 1000 words. And just because I forgot numbering for the paragraph he gave me lower grade lol he cares amount of words more than quality. Lots of reading and writing. Absolutely tough grader
Very touch class and hard grader. You must get ready to read and writes about 500-800 words a week (between 36 hours) and deep analysis every other weekend. You will also get an essay and a exam on the readings you've read. Only take if you really like english and zombie classics.
This professor turns the course more difficult as an elective class overtop from the other classes in your program. Assignments are long with absurd requirements that has to be finished within a 36 hour time. The class turns from an interesting and fun subject to a tedious analysis and worse English course.
There's no essay or discussion that can impress this professor, you're always scoring almost half or half the total mark.

It's really frustrating dealing with a professor like this. They make it incredibly difficult to succeed in their course, even if you do everything right. It's best to avoid taking any courses with them if you can.
As someone who likes reading and writing analytical stuff about stories, I was surprised that I didn't get an A in this class. He never gives a perfect grade even if you meet all the requirements of all his assignments. I think maybe he's expecting English-major level of writing as an elective. Weekly participation matters for an async course.

Doesn't communicate well and is VERY rude when giving feedback. There are no classes just silly little readings weekly. We have a "Discussion board" once a week I've participated in all except 2 I missed due to life issues and he hasn't graded any EXCEPT the two missed with a big fat 0. He isn't teaching ANYTHING. AVOID.

Please avoid this professor at all cost. This is the first time that I failed my essays. Doing your best for your essay and making sure you put all your effort means “you are doing too much” yes, that's his comment. There is no rubric for the essay and you don't know how he grades your output.

Don't take the course unless you want to badly effect your overall garde. The professor just assigns the readings each week to read and respond. He doesn't provide better grades because our respones are "Robotic". It's a stupid course to take and won't help you in real word- you won't learn new skills or anything.

This professor seems very happy failing students, all grades given was below 50% on each discussions and essays. No matter how hard you try polishing your responses, he will just say it's "robotic" or "wordy". This was my elective class, and I found the setup very challenging. The professor only released content at set times, with no late submissions allowed. If you work or have a heavy course load, it's hard to work ahead. Discussion posts came out Monday but were due before the weekend, making it tough to balance. same goes with the online response.

This course was easy initially, as expected of a Gen Ed course, but by the end he became pickier and more "insulted" that no one seemed to take his course as seriously as their main program. He gave me crap about mixing up a single word throughout an essay and proceeded to give a passive-aggressive note. Long story short, he really sucks.
I found the content interesting but he's so picky when grading and vague in his instructions. I come from a university background where I've written so many essays and I've never received lower than an A, I write formally and he doesn't seem to like that. I took this class because I was genuinely interested in the content, HUGE MISTAKE! I've never felt so insulted about my work. Being told to write “more simple” in a class that is about analyzing readings makes no sense. These are college essays, NOT elementary discussions. You will almost certainly not get above a 65. Horrible experience the course content sounded fun. I was told to write more simple and was given no feedback or grade until the end of the semester.
When taking this class I thought I would be fun. NOT! This professors instructions were very confusing as when you follow them he says your doing them wrong. When I proceed to email him for more context he says just keep doing what I am doing, then as I do I'm lacking and giving vague answers. He grades super hard tho I followed it. Do not take!!
