She expects her students to know what she wants when she doesn't even know. Most unclear teacher I've ever had. Shows lots of videos and spends the rest of the class time talking about her husband and kids.
This professor is one to stay away from. She makes the material hard to follow because her lectures don't follow the assigned readings. She gets pleasure from watching students struggle in her class.
If you want to be successful, I advise you to never take a course with "Dr." Harris. I strongly suggest you to stay as clear as you can away from her. She spends most of the class time running off at the mouth about her uninteresting life, and then she crams lectures. She lacks teaching skills.
this teacher is a joke, she spends the WHOLE class trying to figure out how to use the computer, she assigns an ungodly amout of reading for a 1 hour class, its not worth it
If you wish to keep your sanity, DON'T take this class. She assigns too much reading, then hardly uses any of it in her lectures; she lets family problems interfere with her teaching; and her exams are near impossible. I had to write more for HER exams than I did my ENGLISH ones! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Worst professor ever. She really doesn't think it's her fault that 90% of the class fails every exam. I honestly do not care that your daughters have had head lice and you were up all night taking care of them and couldn't grade our quizzes Mrs. Harris. This does not apply to me.
if you want to make a c or better do not take her!!! she gives you to much to learn in so little time.
worst teacher ever, always talks about how students come back and thank her for teaching them how to learn, thats bull. The only thing she taught me was never to take her class again. talks about personal life more than history. We didn't care that her kids had lice, that her problem not ours!!!!!!!
don't take her, just don't, she acts like she's the only teacher you have and her class is the only class that matters. horrible teacher, has no business teaching. stay away from her!
This professor is crazy, and her exams are crazier. She expects you to know everyhting. The first exam was the beat anything I've ever seen and it was on 5 chapters. She had the nerver to say to fail her class you have to be either dumb or really laxy!!???????? thats bull!!!
I hate this class. Far harder than it needs to be. Lectures are useless and don't help you for the test. Tons of reading and the test are very hard.
AVOID THIS CRAZED WOMAN LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!! SHE HAS NO BIZ TEACHING. SHE IS OVERLY INCOMPETENT AND SPENDS VALUABLE TIME ESPOUSING HER IRRELEVANT IDEOLOGIES. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS UR A SADIST AND A GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT!!!!!!
I had her for an internet course. She posted lessons in the middle or end of the day and missed online meetings because of OVERSLEEPING. If the student is expected to keep a schedule, so should the teacher be. Also, posted lessons were not as informative as they should have been.
Students think she is hard because they never go and talk to her. She really wants her students to do well, but she expects them to do the work. I've talked to others who had her and they hated it when they were in there but they really learned a lot.
All those blue book essays arent even necessary
She is in fact a HARD, HARD professor. And when she talks about previous students coming up to her saying they hated her class but now they are thankful...I believe that. I feel that way already and I'm still in her class. She may talk about her family a lot, but honestly not as much as others.
i never knew that the only things that mattered in US history were slavery and the women's rights movement.... we spent DAYS going over the SAME STUFF!! she also expects you to know the entire constitution and every single president since the beginning of time... HORRIBLE TEACHER!
She's really hard and I don't recommend this her to anyone. Save yourself and get out of her class as soon as possible!!!!
She once said that she has been teaching for 7 semesters or so and only one student has made an A and that is only because she thought they worked hard (kissed butt) and so she changed the B to and A
This was a hard class, Dr. Harris is a tough teacher. I worked hard and I made an A. She is the most concerned caring teacher I have ever known. If you put the effort into the class, she will do whatever she can for you. Dr. Harris was an inspiration and if you didn't do well in her class, it was not her fault. She is excellent!

Ok if you've ever listened to a review on this site please listen to this one. Do not take Harris for any reason. Period. She expects you to write critically, yet never truly teaches you how to. She's unsympathetic and her tests are writing marathons where your hand hurts like fire when you're done. Then you see your grade. Trust me: don't take her
I hated the class.
I took her class a year ago and though she was the worst teacher ever. However, she cares alot. You must work hard in her class and if you show her that you're trying she won't fail you. Don't drop the class, it will definitely pay off in the end.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! It is way too hard to be an elective. All she does is read from her notes everyday. Tests are 2 short essays and 1 long essay, & 10 terms (you have to know every detail). Very boring lectures... No one makes an A...
She's a very difficult teacher, but you get a study guide for all test and terms quizzes. The topic of the essay quiz will deal with what she has lectured to you about. If she hasn't completed talking about a subject it wont be a topic for the quiz. You can't be lazy in this class. Look up your terms look up your essay topics, and you'll do fine.
If you're not up to put in LOADS of HOURS studying and reading for this class, then do not sign up for this class. I worked my butt off and in the end I made an A. Believe me, it is possible but only if you're not lazy. If you want a good grade then work for it. Dr. Harris is a very concerned professor who will help you in any way, just ASK!!
changed subjects quickly; talked about things irrelevant to the course
i took the online course & if you want to cry & be frustrated 24/7 go ahead. I couldnt afford to make a C and she feels that those are respectable grades!! i asked her once about how to make an A and she said there was a slim chance that i would make one. our exams were awful. my second exam i wrote 19 pages and i got an 80 bc "i was too vague"
She's friendly as can be, but is just way too picky and demanding and just has too heavy a work load to be practical to complete on her timetable. This class has more work than the rest of my others combined. Test, book report, paper, presentation in the same week, you go figure.
this professor was a pain in my back! she has something to prove to the world by being really tough. i made a better grade on all my test that my bud made and still made a lower grade in there. she picks her favorites. Very boring. a chapter each class period and sometimes 2. way to picky on the test (all essay) very unreasonable.
TERRIBLE teacher. If you have a scholarship to keep, and it is depending on her class than you need to drop her class right away. She is mean and unreasonable!
WORST TEACHER EVER
You will regret taking her. Class average for history 111 was a 60.25! What kind of teacher should keep their job or even be considered a teacher with this low of a class average. BTW this was after 1/3 of the class dropped. Also believes a C is respectable. She failed classes at clemson so has no intent to help you pass.
Not a very easy class. She picks her favoriate student's and only helps who she likes, other wise she just ignores you. I would not reccomend her classes to anyone. It seems she fels she has something to prove that is not quite clear. It's obvious she thinks the world revolves arond her lectures and her views of "I'm better than you."
Dont take her at any cost. She picks her favs. Dosent care that her calss is hard because she is a "doctor" which makes her think she has something to prove. Get's and attitude if you ask about the test and the content of the class. Makes you wonder why this college still has her here.
Dr. Harris lectures a lot. I didn't get much knowledge from the lectures. I got all my information from the text, so be inlove with your text book. Reading is key.
This is a 5-week online class. She assigned 9 papers plus 2 essay exams. I never even had a full-length term class with 9 papers! She posts tons of links which are confusing. I'm glad I dropped while I still could. I understand this is a 300-level class, but the workload is totally unmanageable for a 5-week term.
Dr.Harris is a very hard professor. She requires a lot from her students. You'll have something due almost every week. If you're lazy and not interested in history, DO NOT take her. However, if you pay attention, give your best effort and do all assigned work you can pass with a C or B. She grades very harshly, so be ready to really work.
I find that Dr. Harris is a nice woman in general, but her quallity as a teacher is poor and she rarely goes over actual test materials. You will need the text book for this class.
HOrrible teacher. she spends most of the class period playing on the computer and traing to figue out how to play videos. the material she covers in her powerpoints has nothing to do with her test, so there is no point is even writing anything down. READ the book or you will fail every single one of her test. take her at your own risk.
I had Dr. Harris last semester. Her tests are tough but she is a nice lady. If you work hard and READ YOUR BOOK, you will be fine.Reading your book is essential in her class. I came out with an 'A' and I would take her again. She challenges her students but you'll learn a lot.
this class was online, the work load was extremely overwhelming and I felt that she graded based on what she thought should be there, not based on the actual work put in. (ex: we were given a broad topic and if we did not focus on the point she thought necessary, you would not make a good grade, even though the point you emphasized was a good)
Dr. Harris is a good professor. But you MUST read the book in order to pass, which takes up A LOT of time. In class she gives hints about whats important for tests & quizzes, so listen carefully. Overall, this is a do it yourself class as far as reading is concerned and thats what college is about.
Condescending, unreasonable, makes no sense, curses way too much, picks her favorites and is rude to the rest, unprepared, vague on detail but expects you to know exactly what HER correct answer is, need I say more??? How does she have a job???
I enjoyed her class. It's really helpful if you find someone to study with because her definitions come straight from the book. Just divide up the work and you'll do fine.
She was a pretty nice person but she picked favorites and her tests were almost all essays. It wasn't a very good class.
(US History, 1865-Present) Stay away from Dr. Harris! Impossible to figure out what she expects in our papers and essays. I am sure she knows what grade she will give you before she looks at your essay. If your unlucky enough to be in her class, study for the easy quizzes (Syllabus, Constitution, Presidents). They are the only reason I can make a B
this professor was completely unhelpful, she was incredibly biased picked favorites and assigned grades based on her constantly shifting mood.she was the worst professor I have ever had the displeasure to deal with.
Terrible. My grades remained the same (between a 70-75) regardless of how much I studied. She is incredibly biased and picks favorites. The course is very hard because her notes are completely off topic half the time. Not only that but she is a jerk and grades papers as if she's angry at the world. unless you want a ruined GPA DON'T TAKE HER.
Dr. Harris is VERY clear on what is expected. Look at the syllabus. She's in her office during office hours-take advantage of the opportunity,if needed. Read the book, go to class, study the terms, take all of the quizzes, and turn in your paper. It's that simple! She assigns lots of work that helps improve your grade. Treat her w/ respect and she will do the same. She not a pushover so don't even try. We had conflict in class and she nipped it in the bud. She means what she says:)
Not even finished with the class yet and super tired of it! --> 4 <-- week online class: 7 2-3 page reports, 1 3-4 page book analysis, 2 books to read, 3 exams which are essay format and ~ 11 pgs for each one. Maybe she is a good person, work is RIDICULOUS!! its like we dont have anything else to do besides her class!
Expectations sre outragious. She gives Tenure a bad rep. Ashamed to be a part of the school she has taught at. She is an example of what not to be like as an instructor. People who say she cares are her pets. Threatens the whole class with failure and acedemic plagerism within a day of instructor evals so you are scared to write anything bad.
Dr Harris is the worst teacher I ever had. She told us the first day her lectures weren't on the tests and we needed to read the book....why waste her time talking? She def picks favorites and can be EXTREMELY rude and unhelpful. She'll get an attitude with you and even sent me smart ellic emails when all i did was ask my current grade. STAY AWAY!
From attending her 100 level up to her 300 level there was no real difference in course content/objectives. She provides power points then doesn't use them, she pauses to talk about her (over achieving) daughter constantly and she honestly believes her class is more important to success in college than any other. Don't take her, save your money.
So much work can't even keep up with it all, and even when you do the work, you can't do anything correct and her comments are not helpful. Killed my 4.0 gpa I have had for four years now! Awful do not take!
Interesting that nearly every completely negative comment left about Dr. H is littered with misspellings & grammatical errors... not a coincidence that they did poorly in her writing-heavy class. She's really tough, tons of work, strict grader. BUT if you will actually do your work you should have no problem getting an A. SHE GIVES STUDY GUIDES!!!
Extremely difficult class, way too much expected. Treats class like it's the only thing your doing in the class.
my god, where do i even start! this class was horrible! i took history 106, but felt like i was in history 406! spare your grade and GPA please! especailly if history is not even your major!
Run(and don't stop)
Dr. Harris is a very sarcastic and tough teacher. NOTHING you ever do will never be good enough for her no matter how hard you try. If you don't need this class, DO NOT TAKE. Chose it as an elective and it turned out to be the worst mistake EVER!
Dr Harris is very tough, you learn a lot and makes you work for it. I admit you have to learn it. She don't play and she will call u out. But in the end very "Fair"
2nd day of class, we received 25 BB messages. This was a sign & many dropped the class. Unfortunately, I did not. Super tough semester! You are given 3 essay exams (final is not cummulative) & 6 quizzes (2 are essays) about something non-class related). You will have a class period to write 2 essays and 20 difficult matching for key terms.
Worst class and teacher ever!!!
Dr. Harris was the worst teacher that I have had in my years at USC Upstate. She actively tried to scare people away from the class, assigned a book that she admitted she had not read, did not grade our assignments because she was on "vacation" and had another class that she was teaching and assigned unimportant and irrelevant assignments.
Unless you like writing 10 page essay responses every week and then having them covered in red ink no matter how much effort you put into it, DON'T TAKE DR. HARRIS. I'm on vacation but took the time to do this as a service to you all. Again, DON'T TAKE DR. HARRIS. I've a 3.75 GPA and I promise, you will have to kill yourself for a C!
Another mediocre professor who thinks she's God's gift to teaching. You know you have an ego when you have a 20-page syllabus and give the class a quiz to make sure they read it. Grading is completely arbitrary; she will literally grade papers on "what she thinks you deserve." Validation issues means you have to make her feel useful to get a B.
Worst class ever. Stay away.
Hardest professor I've had at Upstate. Studied or the first exam and only made a 64. She has an exam or a quiz about every week so get ready to study and hate life. She goes through the power points too quickly to write it all down and don't even think about asking her to go back. The book and a tutor will be your BFF. If you can avoid her, do so.
If you're lazy do not take the class. Simple as that.
Incredibly tough course but I learned a lot. She will pile on lots of assignments to keep you from flunking from her painfully hard tests. Passing her classes with a good grade requires you to rethink everything you learned about studying. Definitely the hardest course I've taken and I'm a chem major.
If you read and do what is expected out of you, you will do great! However, if you skip class, don't turn in your work, and don't study don't be surprised when you see your failing grade! Overall, she is a great professor. She is a tough grader but you will eventually be thankful for that because you will learn A LOT!
VERY hard for a 106 history course. Good teacher but be ready to write essays for your test. Good luck, you'll need it.
She makes you work for you grade. If you do not try, you won't pass. She is an incredibliy smart individual. She knows what she is talking about and makes the class interesting. If you are willing to learn you will learn a lot!
You will have to work for your grade. In the end it will be worth it because you will learn a lot!
She's a great professor and wants you to be an independent student and for that I would recommend her. However, even though she gives you tons of resources, her exams are still very difficult even if you study. If you do take her, go to class, ace the quizzes - not that hard tbh, get the word banks, and *show* that you're putting effort in.
Hope this class gets better. Only heard 2lessons. Just off subject chats. Comes to class late lost and unprepared. Hates everything I turn in. 1 month to grade 1 paper. Hard papers to write all the time. I had straight A's my whole life but now I don't. If a straight A student doesn't make an A, it's the teacher not the student! I give my all and
Lectures 1 day every 2 weeks. Lots on test that wasnt covered. Had to buy 4 books & didnt use them. Off subject chats. Late & unprepared. 1 day before test & still not posted study material as promised. Dropping. You can miss class and write copied reports if you make friends with her. Hard workers who dont hang out, in my class, are making Bs-Cs.
You will have lots of papers to write. You will buy atleast three books. You will not hear lectures on it but you will be tested on it. She grades "to a C" so your gpa will go down if you are an A student. She said you must know alot about history to get an A but that wasn't true for SOME people. Grading isn't fair and is based on whether she likes
The test are hard and all essay format. You will not receive questions to test your knowledge. You will be asked to write about 10 short essays answers and 3 long essay papers during class on topics not covered. It is a test to see how much you remember and how many of her words you add to the test. Eveyone made C-D-F. It took forever to get back.
I admire her ability to continue talking even when the rest of the class is completely gone. It goes without saying that it is very difficult to get an A with her. In addition, prepare to write good essays, she won't let you get away with anything less. However, if you want to understand an era of history, you will get it with her.
Yes, Dr. Harris is hard. Very hard. However, she is brilliant, incredibly knowledgable and pushes you. I am NOT a history major... in fact, I am no good when it comes to history/english style classes. However, I paid attention, studied every piece of information she gave us and made a B+. The presidents quizzes were my favorite!
The class is lots of work, but she sticks to the syllabus & spaces out assignments very well. Theres a lot of reading but if you do things the way she has them set up instead of fighting it then youll really learn. She has a great sense of & is easy to approach with questions. Her good side is the place to be when it comes to your final grade.
I needed this class for my major to graduate... if you are in that situation then I suggest changing your major. I went into this class loving history and came out absolutely hating it. You can read everything, study hard, write great papers, and show up to class and barely pass. Worst professor. Good luck.
great teacher. needed her for my major and learned more in there than any other history class i have ever been in. she is tough though and expects a lot out of her students but if you are determined and willing to write and read then you will be alright.
Just be ready to study and write. VERY hard grader but goes have a good personality.
She can get off topic but you learn a lot. And she demands respect and for you to take responsibility of your own knowledge.
Dr. Harris' classes should come with a warning label. She is very knowledgeable and I love getting information from her because of that. However, she is the hardest professor I've ever had. Know that 1 of her classes is the equivalent of 3 regular courses. Plan accordingly. Be ready for a semester of high stress. Brace yourself, Harris is coming.
Her tests are mostly essay, so do not take this course if you are looking for an easy A. The material is not hard, but studying and reading is important.
You will work for your grade, but I learned so much and it's completely worth it. Prof. Harris is brilliant and really makes you think. This is not an easy course, but if you want to learn, it's great. Will definitely take more courses with Prof. Harris!
Professor Harris did not teach her online class. Instead we where left to learn from the textbook that barely goes surface deep into U.S history. The tests then require extensive detail in which she will take off points citing counter details found outside the text. Even as an online class the proff was condescending in her written feedback.
i had her as a freshman and yes she is different than most professors, but she is brilliant and teaches if youre willing to learn. many of my classmates were openly rude and disrespectful, so many people left the class. i loved her and learned so much from her, i just wish my class had others who felt the same
Professor Harris gave us little to no guidance as to what she wanted from us. Instead, any instructions were given in a rush at the end of class after she'd talked about irrelevant things for most of the class. I tried to stick with it because I need this class to graduate, but I'll just have to retake it with another professor.
Doctor Harris is very tough. I do not think a single student who has had her can deny this fact. However, with Doctor Harris as my teacher, I learned so much. From Latin American history to how one goes about formatting a historical paper. She is hard, but worth the effort (most of the time).
This woman is awful. I literally need this class to graduate and its the biggest joke. I've tried to transfer out of this or take something else because I cannot stand her. Do what you can to not take this class.
Dr. Harris is known on campus for being hard. Her reputation comes from her wanting her students to succeed and pushing students to see history, and college, from a new perspective. She gives out no handouts and every assignment is graded according to the effort you put forth. Give her the respect she deserves, and you will be respected also.
Many people criticized Dr. Harris because she makes you earn your grade. She is clear and consistent about what is expected of you if you want to receive a good grade. Her standards may be high but taking her class prepares you for taking more difficult courses. It is really your own fault if you do bad in her class.
Dr. Harris teaches history from a perspective that a lot of people have never experienced before. Its unique and complex but if you at least pretend to care youll learn so much. She was wonderful every class period and it always clear of what is expected of her students.
This is awful! ALL my other classes are being neglected just to satisfy demands. The tests don't seem to make sense. The study guides are useless. Her lectures are so... out there? And that's even if she lectures. A lot of the time you'll get a random video that doesn't line up with the book. I came into the class loving history and now I hate it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! If you value your sanity, if you don't want to jeopardize your future for wanting to cuss this lady out, just avoid taking her at all costs. Her class was made incredibly difficult for absolutely no reason, taking time away from all other classes that you may have and her grading was subjective to what mood she was in.
She was alright. I personally wouldn't ever take her again, but I made it out fine. Take her at your own risk but be prepared for what you're signing up for. And take heed to the warnings of all the people below because there is definitely some truth.
Didn't like Harris one bit. I emailed her for help one time and she responded with an attitude and like I was stupid. Worst professor by far. Grades extremely hard and has way to much of a course load to be a gen ed history class. Don't take her.
Dr. Harris by far is the worst professor I've ever had. She rarely teaches anything, refused to post grades until after the semester was over, and was extremely disorganized. She assigned so many assignments that were purely busywork, and graded so randomly that expectations could never be understood. Avoid this professor at any and all costs.
this class was insanely too much for a prereq class. Dont take it unless you must. notes confused me more than i was before & reading back on them was useless. her exams and half vocab half 2 essays and they were harder than any final i took all semester combined. Impossible to study if you were lost. very slow to update grades & don't use Bb.
She is a difficult teacher, she doesn't even use proper grammer on her notes and she got the nerve to correct our grammar on essays.
do not take her unless you are a history major or something like that. She was very difficult, she has expectations way too high for her students, you get pop quizzes almost every lecture, and some of it does NOT make sense. her tests are not easy, she tells you to read the textbook and when you do, IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.
Dr. Harris has an almost 17 point grade curve to help students be able to pass the class. Showing up and being there for all exams and quizzes is crucial even if you fail the quizzes. She implements extra credit and extra points just for taking all the assignments.
She is a tough cookie. She gives quizzes without any announcements in advance; quizzes are based on her lectures so be sure to listen carefully. I'm an international so her class was extremely difficult for me and I dropped it. She is very demanding and asks like you are a history major student.
A very difficult grader, even if you have your facts right with evidence she will still grade based on how in depth you go with your essays even though you only have around 35 minutes on average for two essays. Her attitude can be much at times. Don't take her if you don't want an unnecessarily hard class, I advise her if you're a history major.
Expects very in depth essays when you have on average 40 minutes to write two essays. She has post-lecture quizzes that are ridiculous and based on very small details she briefly mentions anywhere in her 40 minutes lectures. I don't recommend her class.
She conveys the material very well, but it's a lot of material, though. A lot of people complain in her class but if you just look at the material that she provides and put in the bare minimum effort, then there is no way you can fail unless you just don't do the work. Easy to communicate with. I'd take her again.
Do not take this professor!!! You will be trying like crazy, only to get a B.
Every Tuesday and Thursday I had this class, I walked in the middle of the road in hopes that a bus or a car would hit me before I arrived at her classroom. Got our final exam dates wrong, on the syllabus and in her email. Expected detailed essays, 3 pages long with specific dates and names, but would only give us 25 minutes to do them.
