she was very helpful but did not give us a good transaction from eng 51 to 101. she makes u read a novel that is complicated. she should be more direct about what is on the essay exams. she's the honor's coordinator and the chair of the english dept.

This teacher is okay. She does assign a lot of papers. The midterm and final are essays that are in class and timed. She does assign a group speech where each individual has to have a speech on the groups subject.

Good teacher, will help you with anything in the class. able to turn in papers over after already graded to improve score. I did not enjoy most of the reading, not my type, all black and female pride stuff.

She is a very articulate, elegant, and successful person. I loved her class. It drastically improved my writing and critical thinking. She's hard, but it's worth it. She may be late sometimes, but it's because she's very busy.

Don't let the title fool you. It is a lot of work. If you like film, you will probably enjoy the class. If you like to write the work is minimal, if you don't the work is tedious. Pay attention, do you work and follow directions and Professor Jay respects you whether you are male or female. Slack off and you'll do poorly.

She is a helpfull teacher. Too much of the class is about women, if your a man in the class be ready to learn about some women and at least pretend you think they are great.

wks hard to provide "global" learning. Pulls from all walks of life - very diverse. If she argues, she's trying to peak debate, not say ur wrong. She makes u contemplate and consider. Knows her field well. lots of extra most others won't do 4 u. Will take her again. Her style is challenging but u get an education which is what u paid 4 right!

I actually got a D in her class because I elected the honors portion(twice the homework) and didn't turn in a single assignment. I would have had a 98% if I hadn't signed up for extra work and turned in only the normal stuff.

she is a good teacher, helpful and intelligent, however she is quite the feminist... and that is rather annoying. i am a female, and even I cant stand it!

Wow! Professor Jay is a very passionate instructor, so much so that she's always full of energy when she teaches the class. True, her class can be absolutely difficult, but at least she knows what she's doing and really enjoys it. And she never gets tired of encouraging and pushing her students to do well in class.

She is the best teacher Ive ever had. There isnt a lot of work in the class .Anyone who said it is a lot of work should just quit college. even be in college. She doesnt favor women (Im a guy) She does everything in her power to get you an A and even writes transfer recomnedations. non-pretentious, fun professor. I would take any class she teaches

This professor is very nice and super helpful. She is a very good teacher and takes a deep intrest in her students. She will not under and circumstances let you fail. The only downside is that she gives a ton of work. Worth it though because of what ull learn. Take this class if u can.

if you want honors credit, TAKE THIS CLASS HONORS! only 2 extra papers, very doable. she is so nice and loves to help-show her drafts before paper is due and she will happily revise it for you! reading assignments from text=class discussions. very helpful when writing papers. gives you ideas and good sources. highly recommend her, great teacher! =)

Great teacher, I highly recommend her. She always replied to my e-mail questions quickly. I took her class as honors in a regular class, and it wasn't that much extra work. If you procrastinate, it gets really hard towards the end of the semester though.

Professor Jay is a nice woman who cares about her students and her goal is teach you how to write a good paper - skills you an use later on in college. Great teacher....

She is a great teacher but will put you on the spot. She will force you to participate and there are alot of small assignments. Easy A if you turn in all the assignments on time and participate once in awhile

Class discussion only works if the class is into it. So it can be as good or as bad as you want it to be. Your grades are based on writing essays. So if you turn those in the class is easy.

Professor Jay has all the qualities that every College Professor should have. You will succed because she will walk you through every assignment and you will learn a lot. Do not hesitate to enroll in her class. I highly recommend her.

Prof Jay, also the Honors Coordinator for Miramar, is amazing. She's passionate about the subject, really into critical thinking, and will do anything she can to help you succeed. Pay attention in class, let her know if you have problems in life, and try your best! I took honors 101 and 205 and got As in both. As always, don't procrastinate!

Total sweatheart! Had her for 101 and just had to have again for 205.(As in both) She really helps you out and wants you to succeed so badly! Definitely my favorite professor so far, and I'm no English major. Very ambitious about her students which is sometimes intimidating. But I don't begrudge, it was worth it. She gently pushed me to sign my 1st honors contract. Put in the time and effort and she won't forget you. You may grow past what you thought yourself capable of. I did. :)

Professor Jay is a great teacher. She is very helpful and encourages students to participate. I took English 101 and 205 with her and loved it. I recommend taking her classes.

I had her for Honor 101 and honors 205. She is a great teacher and so helpful. Probably one of the best teachers I've had at Miramar. She wants you to succeed and she will help to make sure you get to where you need to go. I strongly recommend taking her class if your willing to do a good amount of work. Took her for eng205 and signed up for her honors contract. She is one of the best professors I have ever had. Her assignments are challenging, but you learn a lot from them. Her lesson plans are well thought up of and oraganized. I always looked forward to this class. You must participate a lot with her. Her class is a MUST TAKE for any student

She is the best English professor at Miramar. She's very understanding and will always help you. Participate and keep up with your work (which is minimal) and you'll be fine. She wants you to succeed and she WILL make sure you do.

People who gave Prof. Jay a low review are most likely the lazy ones. She's a great teacher and it's clear that she's dedicated to the subject of English. She doesn't impose that on you, however. She just wants you to understand and do your best. I highly recommend this Professor!

Wow. Great teacher! Awesome! She's crystal clear on what she wants from her students. She'll help you out if you have problems with writing (she's a pretty easy grader, just don't make MLA and grammar mistakes). I agreed to the Honors Contract, it wasn't bad at all. Work piles up a bit in the end, but manageable. PARTICIPATE in class!

This is THE professor of English. She's nice, intelligent, compassionate, and fair. She has faith in your abilities as both a writer and a person, give her your attention and you'll do well and maybe ever better than you think.

Love Prof Jay! Took her for Honors Eng 101. She's so helpful, supportive, smart, confident, and admiring in my opinion. She knows what she's talkin bout. But just take her if ur willin to work hard & learn a lot from her. I wrote 2 inclass essays, 1 research paper, & 2 other papers for her. She is one of the best Eng teachers I've had in my life.

Honors - a couple extra essays. Professor Jay is one of the best English teachers I've had. She's really helpful and gets you thinking about the concept at hand. I recommend taking her honors class if you're willing to do the work and write a bit more. Overall, she's a mother-figure and excels at clarifying the topics.

Professor Jay is amazing. She is one of the few teachers that actually cares about her students and their success. She is always encouraging you to do your best and is willing to help if you ask for it. If you get the option to take her, do it.

First semester. One of my preferred classes of the semester. She motivates students, but students still require moderate effort to succeed in this class or any field they enter. The book "Reading in a Global Context" was used for discussion on frequent.

Course content and expectations are crystal clear. Class participation is important. She actually reads your work and offers constructive criticism to better your writing abilities. Overall: Excellent Professor.

Hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. On the first say of class she said she wanted this to be the type of class that you actually look forward to coming to each day, and that's exactly how it was for me. She's one of the most genuine teachers I have ever met. This will be the best English class you'll ever take

She's a good teacher, although her assignments are a bit unclear at times as she directs us to generic outlines in our text rather than giving specific directions. We have turned in many major assignments but have gotten no feedback and our finals are next week. Besides that she's an easy grader and does hold great lectures.

This is in no way an "easy" class. But it is definitely one of the most rewarding if you put effort into it. Professor Jay truly cares about her students and is willing to do so much for you if you ask and show you're motivated.

She's a really chill teacher that really makes relationships with her students who all love her. Watched movies and shorts in her class that were interesting. Expect to be writing papers and key is to write a lot. She loves when you actually write more than expected. The more you write, the better grade you will receive. Best part, no textbook!

Honestly, one of the brightest, most open-minded teachers I have ever had. Her class is not necessarily easy, but you will definitely get more from it than any other English class! She's also head of the Honors Program at Miramar, so super helpful if you're interested in that program. She explains assignments in detail and really makes you think.

Dr. Jay is super great. Take her class! She'll make you love English, inspire you to move forward in your academic career, and introduce you to a world of thinking analytically about society and art. I took two classes with her (205 and 209), and I enjoyed them both. Dr. Jay does push you to learn, but if you put in the time and effort her classes are worth it! She gives clear feedback and is very approachable.

I really enjoyed Honors 209 with Dr. Jay. She is really engaging and fun, honestly the best way to start the week. I took this class as a freshmen, even though I had not taken the prereqs, and I aced it with little to no outside work. Get involved with discussion cause it makes the class more fun and Dr. Jay will like you more.

You are a very lucky person if you get into Dr. Jay's class. I have taken her twice and loved every moment. She has amazing lectures and she genuinely cares about your well being. For most papers she grades your rough draft and lets you revise it. If you work hard and show improvement you will definitely do well in any of her classes.

Out of all the English teachers I have ever had, Dr. Jay is by far the best one I have ever had. She genuinely cares about the students in the class and loves her job. She is also very helpful when you're working on anything in the class. However, this doesn't mean her class is easy. You still have to work for the grade, but her feedback is great.

Dr Jay is wonderful. It shows very clearly that she loves her job and wants every student to succeed, not only in English but in whatever major or career path you choose to take. Easily the best English professor I've ever had. Class was always really fun, we just watched movies/movie clips and had class discussions about them with the terms we learned in class. Easiest way to do well in her class is to talk a lot in class and use all the literary terms in your paper. Took the honors section of this and easily got an A.

Dr. Jay seriously changes the way you view academics. She inspires you to live up to your full potential as a student & I highly recommend taking the honors section of her course. I had Dr. Jay for English 101 and I took her English 208, and had a very similar experience. Dr. Jay is one of the best professors I have ever had in my life. She is very fair in her grading and will help you every step of the way through the class. She's very approachable and friendly to all students. You will have to work for the class.

I took both classes with honors contracts, which I recommend to anyone looking for honors credit. Shes the Honors Co-coordinator for SDCCD, so definitely get involved. We love a legend.

Professor Jay really knows what she is talking about. She made classes fun and interesting. She would open up discussions about the film clips up to the whole class. Participation is important, but don't worry about that since she makes it very easy and comfortable to be apart of the conversations in class.

She REALLY likes student participation and makes it a huge part of your grade. She gives a handful of writing assignments but each are relatively short for an English class.

Dr. Carmen is a wonderful and inspirational professor. She cares about her students and treats everyone equally. She is extremely positive and speaks life in to her students dreams. she is creative, wonderful, welcomes all voices and the most unbiased professor I have encountered. If you have lost your voice and need help with that, take her class.

Jay is such a sweet and well-working professor. She sent out weekly motivational reminders that really helped me push through her class. In my opinion, she is a tough grader but shes just preparing us. She is very passionate about her students and you can tell she loves her job. This should say something since Ive never met the lady. Took her class online, but even then I could tell she was awesome. The online class was a few weekly assignments which weren't bad at all. 2 midterms and 1 final, open notes with a study guide provided. This class was honestly fun, we just talked and learned about movies. Wish I could have done it in-person

The lectures in specific were easy to understand and overall enjoyable as you can see, she enjoys what she teaches. I had the Honors section for this course and let me just say, she is the best option for you. Her honors section was online and she constantly gave us time to work and gave us extra if needed. Will be taking her again for ENGL205.

I love Dr. Carrasquillo!! My class was fully online, which can definitely get overwhelming at times, but she made the class and the assignments so easy to follow. Along with that, shes so kind and always had the students best interest in mind. She gives great constructive feedback and is more than willing to help guide what you need.

Carrasquillo is receptive and responds to emails. She seems to grade pretty easy. I did not struggle to balance this class as a full-time student while working part-time. The work was pretty manageable and Carrasquillo still shows some leniency. I even took this as an honors class and did well with minimal effort.

I appreciated the professor's passion for the subject matter and their dedication to helping their students succeed. Best class ever! Highly recommend!

First off, I just want to say that Dr. Carmen Jay is truly inspiring as an English professor. I am so happy that I took her online class because she is so incredible. I love all of her lectures I have had English courses in the past and I haven't had anyone as amazing as this one. I recommend any student to take her class. You will love her class!

At first, I didn't know her class was an honors class at first though, but she's really nice. She had a class favorite though and it was very obvious.
