Maye doesn't know what she's doing! She reads straight from the powerpoints GIVEN to her!She will "highlight" things u need 2 know 4 the test,& you'll never see them again. The test will be totally different. No study guides, but that's impossible to expect considering she obviously makes the test up the night before the exams!
Prof. Maye is ok. The first two exams are optional and she'll drop one or both if your final is better. Mandatory attendance is a killer. Very talkative and will keep you the entire class period if possible. I would still recommend for 368/303. No idea how Collins is but Maye was ok
I highly recommend her for J303. First exam was okay, but she made second and final exams take home! That was awesome. Even if you do bad on first two exams, if you make A on final, you'll get A for the class. Just write as much as you possible could for the essay part of the exam.
very nice and funny and makes jokes and is very intelligent...had not had tests yet, but there are no quizzes, papers, projects, or group in class, however, i believe other 303 classes do have this stuff!
funny, nice, outgoing, gives e.c. for goin 2 class occassionally, tests are ALL OPEN NOTES, a lawyer so she knows wat she is talkin about. keeps u for the ENTIRE PERIOD though, but i would take her bc i have not heard good things from the other 303 profs, also, she loves UNC basketball and ?'s on tests are about them, very smart and sweet and funny
Carmen Maye is probably the coolest teacher I have ever had, she really tries to relate to her students, and makes it so that people who study and go to class have it easier. Tests are optional, but if you study, they arent too hard. Lectures can be kinda boring at 9 am, but she really tries to make it interesting!
AWESOME! I AM TAKING HER FOR JOUR 368! PLEASE ALL TAKE HER FOR JOUR303! U WILL NOT B SAD! U HAVE NO QUIZ,PAPERS,PROJECTS,1 TEST N CLASS & ITS OPEN BOOK.NOTES, OUR OTHER 2 TESTS ARE TAKE HOME! PLEASE TAKE HER EVERYONE! SHE IS SO NICE AND COOL! U WILL B N CLASS FOR FULL TIME, BUT SHE IS NICE AND LOVES UNC BASKETBALL! SHE GIVES EC A LOT ALSO!
Highly recommended. She's easy, yet a little challenging at the same time. But you will actually learn some things if you pay attention and study. And's she nice. Kinda corny, but nice. Take her.
The lectures are boring, but there's not getting around it. Just go to them and you'll be fine. Tests aren't bad, and they're all open note/book. Take her if you can, just learn to sleep w/ your eyes open.
Took her honors advertising class and it was one of the easiest classes ever. The material is interesting but it really doesn't matter if you read or not. Her tests were all take-home and incredibly easy. She's really cool and understanding and interested in her students and has some real-life experience that helps. Cancels class a lot too.
her open book tests are really easy up until the last one when she doesnt put an essay and screws half the class over and the class average drops about 10 points.
This class was boring at times and she takes roll although its a big class but there are only 3 tests and the first 2 you dont have to take, your final will just count as your grade. She is nice but can get into bad moods sometimes and call people out. I would reccommend taking this class
Takes attendance but allows 7 absences. Class is boring which makes it hard to go in the AM. Tests are optional but you get to use a cheat sheet. The tests are harder than you expect though. The final is cumulative. Don't really need a book just go to class & take a lot of notes. I guess I would reccomend her but class is SO boring!
Very nice person but never prepares for class, she just comes to class and rambles about what's in the book. Easy because of open book tests but I would NOT recommend this teacher because you don't learn much of anything from her.
Not realy sure what her deal is. She seems nice at times but at other times seems cranky about everything. Tests are open book but the client project is anyone's guess with a lack of explination and direction
SO extremely boring. our tests were NOT open book OR take home. disaster! please take someone else...
Very intelligent and experienced lady. The tests are difficult--they are specific and include scenarios/examples of terms. She is very easy going, and classes usually do not run the whole time. The lectures follow the book exactly.
Class lecture is sometimes hard to follow because she gets off on random tangents, but power points are posted online. Nice person, just can't really decide what she wants to talk about when. Relatively easy tests if you do the reading, wants to help you pass. Attendance is taken. HUGE UNC fan, so tarheel hats are a plus
Love her! this is the 3rd time i've had her for a class. She is very understanding and teaches you what you need to know not random stuff. She is very strict on deadlines so be wary of turning in stuff late. other than that take her she's great.
ridiculous, i went to EVERY class and ended up with a C. lectures are random and boring. all she does is rave about UNC basketball...all tests are online which sounds easy but the questions are so detailed! maybe she's better in some classes but this one sucks!!!
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR CREATIVE STRAT! Her grading scale has absolutely no structure so you never know where you stand. She waited until a week after our final to e-mail us and ask us to evaluate our group members, which was optional!? I chose not to and got a C! I guess make sure to throw your group members under the bus and claim all the credit!
it's like i want to say nice stuff about this class, but i don't feel that i got out of it as much as i could have...it felt all over the place...tests were relatively easy, take home exam so you can't complain...but if you want to take something away from the class, probably try another instructor
No attendance. 5 optional m/c tests, 1 required m/c final. Thats it. The tests are straight from the book. Going to class is helpful if you want to learn, but it contributes nothing to test grades. The book is really good. Professor is a lawyer and industry professional.
either you can go to class and copy down the notes she handwrites on a piece of paper over the projector, or you can do something better with your time and actually do the reading and take your own notes. i did the latter and got an A easily. a lot of people complained that she didn't put slides online but last i time checked this was college...
She is interesting and sometimes funny. The material however is fairly useful but, incredibly boring. 3 exams are offered, but you have the choice of only taking the final, which I wouldn't recommend because it's cumulative. The test can be tricky so read questions very carefully. Go to class and try to read the text book and you should be fine.
I absolutely could not make myself interested in this material. She does try as hard as she can to make the information interesting and relevant. 3 tests, can choice to only take the final if you want. Words her questions difficultly sometimes so make sure to take your time with the tests. Crazy about seating charts and attendance.
This is hands down my favorite teacher I've had in college. Very understanding, willing to meet with you anytime and if you let her she wont let you leave until you really understand the material. I definitely definitely definitely recommend takin her
I was really interested in the class material and enjoyed what we learned Maye's pretty good at her job but her attitude drives me crazy. She makes class really uncomfortable by calling out random people. She expects us the have read new material the day after a test. She is really sarcastic and expects us to study her way. Be prepared for class.
Maye is a good professor. She makes class interesting with humor and she is very down to earth. 4 tests 1 short exercise due for a final. If you read the chapters or at least the summaries it is an easy class. Very helpful after class also. Recommend!
Pretty easy class and an interesting topic. She rambles on sometimes and makes class boring. Can be really sarcastic but sometimes it's funny. Takes attendance but all exams are online and the final was a paper that took me like an hour. Talk to her about UNC Tarheels and she'll love you.
She is a very good teacher. She is also very understanding when the class doesnt do so well on tests. 4 tests and an optional final. you have to read the text in order to do well in the class, but you never have any homework or anything. Funny to listen to, and she tries to make the class as upbeat as she can
Read the textbook - it's not totally necessary, but it's extremely interesting. As for Carmen, she's distant and not very engaging. Maybe it was just the quiet nature of my class. Regardless, she's brilliant (JD and accomplished in advertising) and knows what she's talking about. Worth taking.
allows 5 absences w/o penalty. there are a total of 5 exams but you also have to take 4.Exams are taken on blackboard which means they're open book. she offers extra credit. you definitely need to read the textbook to do well. all in all she's a great prof. she definitely knows what she's taking about
She is very knowledgable about the information she provides for the class, but her distaste for interruptions in fact ironically makes her interrupt our class as well. Maye is very strict and distinct with her ways. Maybe its just me but her sarcastic comments are quite rude and annoying. But other than that shes great with lectures.
Very sarcastic and rude. likes to call people out and make them feel stupid for asking questions. Expects a large lecture class to sit in assigned seats and take attendance daily. Doesn't post notes on blackboard and skips through her slides quickly and refuses to go back. The ONLY good part about this class is the exams are on blackboard.
While some might say her saving grace is her online quizzes and tests, these actually test not your knowledge of the material, but instead your ability to read between the lines. Her grading scale makes no sense, and her teaching style is terrible. Her attendance policy is unnecessary, and you end up learning nothing in her class.
People whine about this class being hard but the truth is, as long as you listen to Maye in class she is pretty clear on what you are supposed to know. If you respect her and listen you will benefit in the end. You can literally read through the book as you are taking the exam. I learned a lot.
You can't base your decision to take her off of any of these ratings because she changes her policies every semester. Last semester she didn't take attendance, now she does, etc. She's psychotic and rude and doesn't care if her students learn at all. The only good thing is that the class is really easy itself. Tests are online. Use the book.
It's only hard if you make it hard. Go to class, take notes, pay attention. I really enjoyed this class. She only calls out people who are blatantly rude.
So rude. Acted like attendance was mandatory all semester then told us on the last day it wasn't. Online tests open book but they are HARD. :(
Attendance was mandatory all semester until the last day she said it didn't count at all. Her grading scale is so ridiculous (92 and above is an A). She is unclear with her tests but they are all online. Im never taking a class with her again.
Open book blackboard tests really helped. She's nice and funny but doesn't put up with nonsense. Attendance is taken daily. She's really, really funny, which makes class bearable for non-advertising majors.
I never normally write on these sites, but I had to say that this woman was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. I'm a current law student and from what I've learned in my few years at a top-ranked law School this woman knows absolutely nothing about the law. She was rude, she was scattered, she just generally had no business teaching.
Do not take her class. Easily distracted and does not allow phones or laptops. Lectures have no general direction and are hard to follow. You have to write down everything she says because you have no idea what will be on the tests. The class is too large for the difficulty of the material. I'm an A student, and I worked extremely hard for a B.
Train wreck. She's a total disaster. The thing to know about her class is she knows nothing therefore it's impossible for you to actually do well on her nonsensical exams. I have no idea how she's a professor, is SC that desperate?
I really loved this professor. I was so scared to take 303 but she made the experience worth while. The information really interested me, her lectures were normally very helpful, and the test were hard, but reflected class material. Two midterms and a final. Allows a sheet of notes for each test and final can replace midterms if you do better on it
Professor Maye was genuinely nice and the class was interesting, but very hard. She took attendance everyday and class was all over the place. You never really knew what to write down and the tests consisted of all very similar questions with maybe one or two words different. This class takes a lot of time and patience.
I thought I would enjoy this class but overall its boring. The book was almost 200 dollars and her lectures are hard to follow because she moves through the power points so fast. Her tests and quizzes are all on black board, but they are very challenging and worded ambiguously. I wouldn't take her if I had the choice not to.
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR 202. I'm an Ad major so I thought I would enjoy this class, but I hate it. The only good part about this class is that the tests are on BB but all the questions are from the book. Her lectures are vague and she gets distracted easily. She took attendance at first but quit taking it. Take another professor if you have the option.
Learned a lot. Was told it was "soo hard" so I studied and put effort in on my cheat sheet and made an A on both exams. Go to class, take notes. She makes it interesting. Read what she says cus she might call on you (cough cough court cases) and just read the text book. I got exempt from the final unexpectedly. Testswhat is covered in class only
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ADVERTISING. I took this as a journalism elective and I'm kicking myself. It's a super boring class and I'm not doing well. I didn't buy the book because it's $200+ but you actually really need it for the tests.
She isn't as bad as everyone makes her out to be. Her lectures are pretty much useless, but her tests are pulled directly from the book. Tests are online, and you're allowed multiple attempts. If you have the book on hand while you take the test, then the class is an easy A. Lectures are boring.
This class is an easy A if you buy the textbook; all the tests are on blackboard and straight from the book. However, I did not learn anything in here and am a bit disappointed since I am an ad major. I ended up with a b+ and I didn't go to class and I failed the first few exams. She makes it almost impossible to fail.
I've had her for two classes and she's great. I think a lot of people get annoyed with her tests and that's why she has a bad reputation sometimes. Some of her questions can be tricky. She's actually down to earth, funny, and her classes are stress free. She usually eases her syllabus policies. She started letting us bring cheat sheets to tests.
Media Law is always dreaded because it is harder than most JOUR classes but this class wasn't impossibly difficult. It wasn't super easy but wasn't as bad as I expected. We were allowed to make cheat sheets for tests and she held really helpful test review sessions. Go to class and do the readings and you'll get by.
She uses a tough grading scale and grades are based on two tests and the final exam only. Her first test was based off of lecture and readings only. For the second test, she started giving study guides that helped tremendously. Her lecture hardly covers what's on the test. She holds study sessions on Sunday nights but they're not very helpful.
Carmen is beautifully quirky, but a semester in her class can feel like an eternity in purgatory. 8:30 a.m. lectures are horrid. Her grading scale is ridiculous, with an A being a 95. Thankfully, she liberally curves, and it's not hard to do well, so long as you read every. single. test. question carefully. Make a good cheat sheet and read!
the only grades come from 2 exams and a final. lectures are boring and long
Her class was incredibly boring and confusing. She sped through PowerPoints, didn't post them online and her tests were incredibly tricky. She talks more about her personal life than the test material and will randomly take participation checks in class when she said attendance wasn't mandatory. Cheat sheets on test are a nice plus though.
Prof. Maye makes a confusing subject very applicable and knows how to help students understand in a class that has a lot of material. Class is important for and communications careers so take it with Prof. Maye if you are able to.
Carmen is so cute and awesome I literally wish she was my mom. She makes a very difficult class a little bit more fun and she definitely tries to make boring lectures interesting. The course is challenging and she makes you work for it but listen in class and take good notes and study and you should do fine!
Some of the content of this course is somewhat interesting, but lecture with Prof. Maye is always boring. Every class is exactly the same. Study hard for tests, they are tricky. Instead of learning "media ethics," this class is more about memorizing court cases.
If you're not into laws then this class will be tough, but Maye does try to make it as useful as possible. The tests are very detailed, but Maye does put online quizzes online that are similar to the exams. We had two tests and one final that could count anywhere from 55-95% depending on how positively it would effect your overall grade.
Professor Maye was a overall good and funny person, but i found her class extremely difficult. Its hard to pay attention when its a lecture the whole time. Also, there are only 2 exams and a final and the final is worth 55% of your grade. There is no other class work so make sure you pay attention. There is a ton of True of False questions.
As someone who took this for credit so I could move on to my Journalism classes that I actually want to take, she is the best option you have. Her class has mandatory attendance, only 3 tests, and is only based on lectures. But what would you expect from the class title? She makes her lectures funny, is interesting to listen to, and will help you
Dr. Maye was by far the best professor I've had at USC! She is super nice and really knows what she's talking about. If you are even slightly interested in law you will love this class. Go to class, pay attention, takes notes and you'll get an A.
Although I only took this class for my minor, it was easily my favorite class of the semester! They switched Professor Maye to be the professor of my section instead of Professor Collins who Id originally signed up for and I think it was a blessing in disguise. Show up, pay attention, and take notes and you will do just fine!
Good bit of reading and SUPER boring/agonizing lectures but I got an A so can't really complain. Interesting material if you're a journalism major
Dr. Maye is a great professor. You definitely HAVE to study for this course. She takes attendance every class, gives weekly online participation quizzes and is lecture heavy. 2 out of 3 exams (including final) were online. Court case readings are required before coming to class. She will randomly call on you. Overall, solid class.
I was legit scared to take this class because of some of the reviews but this was an easy class that you really have to work hard if you want an A/B. 2/3 of the exams were online, really pay attention to the quests because some questions from there will repeat themselves. She will help you out as much as she can, I recommend taking her for 391.
I came into 303 with an open mind, trying not to assume it would be boring. I was wrong. Although this was an easy A (she put one exam online, let us use a page-long cheat sheet for the other two, including the final, and canceled class 3 days in a row), the lectures were dull and uninspiring. Unavoidable as a journalism major though.
This class was somewhat interesting. Grading was extremely hard for this class. We had two test (25% each) that had 50 questions each and then the final was 100 questions and counted 50% of our overall grade. There was no grade for homework. Although this class was challenging it did help me prepare for other classes.
Even though this class isn't really a class any one enjoys it really isn't that bad. Its simple material, does her best with making it interesting, and she is so sweet. I took her class at 8:05 which I wasn't excited about but she made it worth it. Got a B+ and wasn't hard easily could've gotten an A if I tried just the slightest bit more.
Her lectures dragged on and she does not allow laptops in her classroom. Attendance is mandatory. Tests were difficult. 2 tests and one cumulative final. The 2nd test was online. Final counts as 40% of whole grade. Grading method is very unclear and hard to understand. Overall not a bad class, but a LOT of studying is necessary to do well.
Her grading scale is a 7 point scale and the final is worth 40% of your grade. I was terrified on the first day. You're graded off of two exams and a cumulative final. Also, you have to take 13/18 Quests and she drops your lowest if you do more than that. Take notes and really study the court cases and Quest questions! She's a caring person though!
Dr. Maye wasn't my first choice as a professor, and she still isn't. However, she is very knowledgable and knows how to convey material well. There were quite a few circumstances that occurred during our time together but she was able to still give the material to her students. Classes were sometimes cancelled and exams required a lot of studying
You will pass this class as long as you pay attention during lectures and take notes. We only had to do one essay and three exams and they were really easy.
Great professor. Attendance is mandatory but essential to getting a good grade in her class. Her lectures are interesting and give you all the information you need to pass. Take good notes, they are very useful. A lot of quizzes (quests) but you only need to do a certain amount, and then the rest are optional. I really enjoyed this class.
Absolutely love her. So knowledgeable and genuinely learned a lot from her lectures. The grade comes from Quests and 2 tests as well as the final exam. Solid choice, least stressful class of my semester.
If you are registered with the disabilities office and have accommodations, do not take her class! She is extremely difficult about students receiving any sort of accommodation and does not care to check her email.
If you can avoid taking her please do so, she's not horrible but likes to flip a narrative. Attendance is mandatory, do not listen when she says otherwise. Quests/quizlet heavy. Easy class but working with the professor about detailed items were difficult. Make sure you ask questions about anything to gain clarity. Stay on top of everything!
This was the worst class I had to take for my journalism major. She makes the material so boring and is rude and sarcastic when students ask questions and try to participate. Tests are not very difficult but if you don't read the material then you won't pass. I don't recommend taking this professor.
Dr. Maye is a very sweet professor but her lectures are long and boring. I wish she had more interactive lectures. She is very nice but she can not keep my attention for very long. If you do well on her quests you will do well on her tests.
The professor was very familiar with the information she taught, but she mainly reads lecture slides that she flips through SUPER fast. The quests were super easy, but the exams included information we had not gone over in class. If you can find a different professor, then the course might be worth taking.
I really like her lectures and they're very interesting depending on the topic. She was a lawyer, so she knows what she's talking about. Grades by a few tests and quests which are just small quizzes. Textbook is free through the library, but we don't really use it. She's really nice and the class is worth taking!
Dr. Maye was an okay professor. Classes were pretty interesting and there wasn't much workload. She lets you do select hw assignments at your own pace which was nice. But she's got a no laptop rule, which is frustrating.
Maye is a super chill professor. Her lectures can be super boring but is sometimes interesting. It's easy to do very well in her class if you put the time in. There are 13 required quests to do throughout the course of the semester. She also offers 2 optional midterms that are just the quests repeated with some short answer questions. Take her!
The class lectures are often boring especially since she had a no laptop or cell phone policy. The workload is not bad. There are only 13 quests (short quizzes on BB) to complete. Attendance is required, and more than three absences will result in a letter grade reduction. The two midterms were optional, and all exams and quests were done online.
Dr. Maye is a pretty good professor for Law and Ethics. The workload for the class is reasonable and the quests are not that hard but her lectures can be very boring since she kind of gets sidetracked sometimes so it made it hard for me to stay focused and engaged. But she is very smart about the law and can be very funny sometimes
Easily the most dull lady of all time. Hardly any notes to take during lecture, you have to try to get the notes from her talking but it's so hard to tell what is important. If you can avoid taking her for JOUR 303, do that by all means necessary.
I do not like having Professor Maye as my professor this semester. She has a passive aggressive attitude in class, never stating her problems to us directly. She mumbles a LOT and makes class super boring. She assigns seats. She doesn't teach what's on the tests. I'm failing nearly every test, though I'm normally an A student. Don't take her class.
Professor Maye's class is great! The grade made up of 4 exams and a short project at the end of the semester. The lectures don't prepare you well for the exams more so quizlet does. Attendance is taken every class lecture is engaging so just go to the class! Buy the textbook to do well on exams. I did learn a good bit about brands and advertising!
Lectures only and only notes you are going to get is from what she is saying. No powerpoint with clear notes to take. Not a terribly difficult class, just boring to sit through. Important to remember specific court cases which got harder as they all started to blend together.
Professor Maye is a nice person and is passionate about advertising. However, this class was very unorganized. The syllabus has probably changed five times this semster. I would suggest not purchasing the textbook for this course. The tests are difficult even though they are open resource. Other than the tests, there are really no other grades.
I absolutley loved having Dr. Maye! She is easily my favorite professor and class I have ever had. She is super knowledgable, but isn't afraid to make jokes and lighten the material up. It's lecture heavy, but I never felt bored in her class. Take her if you can, she is awesome and the class is very interesting and thought provoking!
Not a difficult class (if you can google and look through quizlet fast). Has a no technology rule and is passive-aggressive when someone's on their phone or laptop. Lectures are long and hard to sit through. Test are online on BB and pretty long and have nothing to do with what's talked in class. I'm an ad major and I feel I've learned nothing.
Exams are somewhat complicated but manageable. During lectures, the professor talks in a very monotone voice, makes you sign a "technology agreement", and constantly goes on tangents that don't relate to the class. Overall she's okay, but I don't recommend you take her classes.
Maye is fine other than the fact that she really doesn't seem to want students to learn anything. Homework questions are all giveaways and she doesnt do much to encourage actual learning of concepts because the answers will be handed to you. Lectures droned on and on and never felt like we were tested on what she spoke about in lecture.
Carmen Maye is a great person and funny at times, her lectures were just very boring so it was hard to want to wake up and go to her class. We were graded on 2 optional midterms, a final exam, and 13 quests but those were for participation. She said attendance was counted but I don't know if it actually was. I still went to class just incase.
I have nothing but respect for Professor Maye. Her lectures where informational and interesting. If you love law this is a great course!
Although I did well in this class, it absolutely bored me to death. The professor is very nice, but the class is not that easy. Some parts were easier than others. The worst part was just how boring the lectures were because she barely uses PowerPoint.
Where you sit the first few weeks will become your "assigned seat" for the semester, and she's weird about it if you move. Her class was interesting at times, and I do feel like I've learned a lot about advertising. She's nice and tests aren't bad. Just go to class and take notes. I found that reading the textbook before class helps too.
Only grades are "quest" and exam. (everything able to look up) Exams are easy! She takes attendance seriously. Lectures are boring but as long as you go, you will earn an A. Cool professor, have had her twice now, would recommend for a good grade!
Lectures were dull and unengaging. She often goes on tangents about irrelevant topics. Attendance is mandatory and she does a seating chart. Nothing we learned in class was on the exams, it was all from the textbook. Not the worst but I do not recommend her. I feel like I learned nothing.
Okay
If I HAD to take her again, I would if it was the only professor. She wasn't the worst teacher in the world, however, the lectures were very dull and a little boring. The exams are sometimes questions she created and are hard to follow sometimes. The exams and quizzes are open notes which is a lifesaver. Attend class because there's a seating chart
Took in Spring 24. First time attendece was optional and THANK GOD. She made a seating chart on the first day. Did not care for her lectures. I never went back. All assignments online. Theres 18 quests but we only have to do 13. I reccomend doing all before the 4 exams so youre prepared.
This is an easy class just very long, boring lectures. Exams are online and open textbook (many questions are straight from the textbook- word for word). You have to do a weekly quest but again so easy. I would recommend this class for an easy A.
She was a wonderful professor and I intended to take more classes that she teaches
She's nice but painfully boring. She's better to take for this class than Collins, but if you can, take Smith. She became more chill this semester than ever before, so it was nice that I could be on my laptop the whole time or else I would've fallen asleep. All exams online and are open note. Interesting content but did not retain any of it.
She does NOT follow her syllabus. I ended the semester with a 93 grade on blackboard and checked self service and it was a B as my final grade. She randomly decided that attendance would be apart of the grade and she dropped everyones grades by almost 10 points! you can NOT do this. I had all As on tests and quests which was the grading criteria
This course felt like a more boring AP US History. Professor Maye was uninteresting, and I retained nothing from this class. Her grading scale is weird and unclear. All of the quests are on quizlet, so the coursework itself is not hard, however incredibly dull and boring. Would not take this professor again.
Pretty good. Just a little boring for an 8:30am class. Super nice. Attendance matters!!!!! You will have a seating chart so make sure the seat you sit in the first day is what you would like for the whole semester. Lots of textbook quizzes and tests are very similar to what she lectures in class.
Professor Maye's lectures can be dry, but the material is interesting if you engage with it. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for preparing for the exams - definitely check it out alongside the textbook.
The most boring professor I've had. Long, mandatory lectures with no structure—she went off topic often, making note-taking hard. Exams varied wildly: the first was in class with a lockdown browser (most failed), while the other two were online, open-book (most got A's). Rarely responded to emails; the TA was more helpful. I ended with a B+
I took her graduate media law class online, it was so frustrating. The quizzes didn't ask any meaningful questions and required a tedious internet search instead of notes I took on her very slow lectures. She throws 50 online articles in each week's folder and it doesn't seem like you need to grasp the material, which is scary since it's MEDIA LAW.
A little unorganized honestly but she means well. One of those professors you take because you have to and the class becomes a nuisance, but she doesn't ruin it for you if you enjoy the subject matter, if that makes sense.
Class only has 3 grades all year, kinda boring but manageable.
asked about what to study for an exam and she said "you should be taking notes so just use those" if you're not religious, start praying to something
Carmen Maye means well. However, her lectures and classes are all over the place. You are only graded on 2 exams and the final exam, but I know I and most of my classmates had zero clue what to study for, since her lectures weren't structured one bit. All in all, heard that she is the lesser of 2 evils and you should choose her for this course.
Easy homeworks/quiz grade opportunities, attendance mandatory, lectures that lead to long tangents (that are usually funny), and online exams.
