If you want the truth, be sure to find her ratings under Carmen Hall, her former name. She is a rediculous excuse of a teacher. You will do A LOT of busy work, not get any help on assignments, get graded on her own grading scale (have to get a 95% for an A)and sit there while she is late to class and leaves the room throughout. Pathetic.
She has no compasion, never makes a mistake (in her eyes), and rude. Also, if the students are late by a sec, he/she will automatically receive a F. If the students makes an error on you vocab work, he/she will receive a F on the test which has little to do with your assignment error. I could go one for days that is how horribly as a person she is!
This lady is freakin ridiculous. She gives you way too many assignments and provides no help in the way of spacing out assignments. Also has a bad tendency to try to talk to you as if you are not an adult and don't understand that you have to make choices. Avoid her class at all costs
She doesnt care about anyone but herself. She does not help u with anything. Her notes are useless. She let us out of class after 15 min, which she came in 10 min late as usual, a million times. U make a joke or "pack up" early and she stares u down. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!!!
a startling approach to comp I. very critical and nit picky on grading essays, but you've to learn to be a better writer somehow. BIG ADVOCATE of outlines - you'll write an outline for every paper. yes, lots of busy work, but it's not exactly hell. I've had a lot worse. Do the work, it's not an easy A but I took alot of what she taught to Comp II.
Mrs. Simpson is a tough teacher. I'll admit that she is very particular in what she expects. Your journals, essays, etc. must all have perfect headings. In other words, if you do not follow the basic instructions, you automatically have a zero. Her grading scale is pretty hard to adapt to --- it's very strict. She's tough, but we're learning.
I highly recomend Professor Simpson. If you are looking for an easy A then this is not the class for you; however, you will take alot away from this class. I learned alot and feel I am better prepared for comp 2 thanks to her. She is a compassionite, kind woman who cares deeply about her students. She is always willing to help.
She seems like a really mean teacher, but if you need any help and take advantage of her office hours she will do what ever she can to help. I was extremly nervous the first few classes, but she really is an awesome teacher even with all of the work I plan on taking another of her classes soon.
I think she is a good teacher. You have opprotunity to make your grades. I believe if she is hard she is doing it to teach you something. I have been out of school for 7 yrs and I am learning a great deal of stuff. I think people just want college to be like high school, everything handed to you on a silver platter. Grow up!
Ms. Simpson is a excellent teacher. If you do the work you'll pass the class. Make sure you get numbers from your other classmates because missing one class can be like missing a week. She gives alot of work so if your taking 5 or more classes this is not a class for you. Take advantage of her office hours; she does not do the email thing.
Very strict, expects A LOT. Is good if you're really into writing EXTRAVAGANT papers. Cares about her students as well as herself. Has dry humor but yet is still a good teacher, lots of busy work, expects you to be punctual and creative. I still recommend her though.
Professor Simpson is a tough teacher. I took her class over the summer, which I don't recommend to anyone. Her class is hard enough to start with, but condensing it into 10 weeks was awful. Very nice Prof!! I know you have to be fully present in class to receive good grades. If you do well in test and vocab. u can pass the course. I was bad in essay and still iam receiving a A in this class.
Ok...take this advice. She is not fun. She is hard. If you want a lot of work and not much time to do it, this is the class for you. She definately can hold a grudge. If you miss an assignment or something like that she takes it like a personal jab. ALWAYS LATE. ALWAYS LEAVES CLASS FOR FUN TALK WITH OTHER TEACHERS!!! Choose a better professor!!!!!!
Mrs. Simpson is a difficult teacher but if you just LISTEN and dont ask so many questions and do your work, then the class is easy and everyone should get an A. turn in things on time and dont miss class and she'll respect you and it wont be that difficult. I dont recommend this class for people who think theyre taking an easy professor.
She is hard! She will take missing an assignment as a slap in the face to her, and if your sick FORGET IT! She doesn't care and has zero sympathy. Her class is hard and her research paper is just shy of totaly insane. She is never on time and will cancel the majority of classes, and if she does show she'll hold class for thirty minutes and dismiss
She is NOT A MEAN TEACHER. She just has a high standard of excellence, and does not except substandard work. I took her class in 8 weeks and got a high B. The only reason she gets upset when people miss assignments is because she has a vested interest in making each and every student a better writer. IF you LOVE to write then you will love her.
You can not pass this class by BSing the whole semester. You have to do your work. She is insane about exactly how she wants things done, but she is interesting, funny, and harshly nice. She will help if you ask her. Majority of the assignments are homework, so yes she does cut class short sometimes. What college student doesn't like that??!!
I didn't check out the professor. That was a BIG mistake! She wants everything PERFECT! She will NOT accept late papers, life happens if you are absent or even late when she calls for you then it's a zero! She also was very religious and that doesn't belong in class. She relayed a message from "God" that was to me! Also on here as Carmen Hall
While it couldve been worse, she was definately a rough teacher. Everything has to be perfect with her, you cant seem to do anything right. I missed one class meeting (an 8 am) class and she held a grudge for weeks over it. I didnt learn much from her class, very repetitive and she wastes a lot of time. She is always late as well.
She is a great teacher, she is kind of tough. Everyone i've known that has taken her couldn't make more then a c. She is very clear in the material she assigns. She has a dry humor is can be very funny. She grades hard and looks at every detail on all papers you turn in. She is a great professor i recomend her.
If you don't want to learn anything new and hope to pass the class without doing any work or attending the class, she is not for you. But in that case no professor is good for you... grow up and then consider going to the college. She is GREAT, and I seriously do not understand the people who wrote bad things about her...

I enjoyed this class, but the grading scale is much harder than most classes. She make the class fun because she has a very dry sense of humor and does a great job explaining exactly what she wants. High expectations and takes 95% or higher to get an A. Worked harder in this class than any others and recieved my only B

Professor assigns a lot of work. Always makes sure you understand the material before assigning the work. Allows revisions on most tests and essays. Goes over the same material until the whole class understands. No research paper and the final is extremely easy. Cares about the studetns and is very funny! Highly recommend, loved the class!
She is pretty tough but willing to help you. Her grading scale has an A at 95%. She lets you redo papers and gives tons of feedback and if it shows you're trying she keeps letting you redo them so that you can learn. I am not a writer or good at comprehending literature. I got an A in Comp 1 and a B in Comp 2 taking her class.It's possible.
Very Christian... Leaves bible passages on your desk... All you do are essays and the same quiz about once a week. You have to do exactly what she asks or you will get a lower grade. Does not care about context of essays; just if its in the right format. Take her if you want...
I would NOT recommend her as a teacher. I took her for comp 1 last semester and all we did was write essays. She did not teach us research papers, MLA formatting, MLA citations, in text citations, or to use the college database. She made me feel dumb whenever I asked her a question. Now I am playing catch up in comp 2.
Nice lady. Horrible teacher. She doesn't post grades in Angel and if its not how she prefers something, you're going to receive an F.
This was the worst experience ever. No grades posted until the final week of the semester!Ok, she's nice. So what, it doesn't help if I walk away from her class not knowing what I learned the past semester. She's more interested in being a control freak more than anything. Professor Simpson may seem aggressive at times; however, she is very willing to help out students when there are questions. There is no real extra credit and some homework assignments are never collected. Be sure to track your grades. If your looking for an easy A, Ms. Simpson is not for you, but if you want to have a challenge, she is perfect.
I have never received a grade lower than an A in any English class until now. You have to have a 95% in order to receive an A and sadly, she makes this VERY difficult to achieve. She is extremely loud when she teaches so I always leave class with a headache. She is unclear with instructions, gives short deadlines, and doesn't post grades online.
If you are late to class on a testing day (for ANY reason) you will receive a 0% for the test. I have gone to this professor many times for help and have been ignored. I corrected a punctuation error of hers on a grammar test and she took points off. She treats students as though they are numbers, which is funny because there's only 20 kids in clas
Overall, the material isn't difficult. But she assigns A LOT of homework, so I wouldn't recommend her if you work full time andor have a family. Lectures are minimal - you'll spend about 95% of your time in class doing tests & essays. She will push you hard, so don't expect this to be an easy class! You'll be able to write one mean essay though!
The Professor is tough but an outstanding teacher. I have learned a lot from her and I am going to take her for comp. I know there are easier teachers I could go to but will only take her. Thank Professor Simpson, You rock!!!
There is a fair amount of course work but she is very clear about what is expected of you. If you go to class and pay attention you'll do fine. If you want a easy A this professor isn't for you. I did learn a lot in this course.
She is not for you if you suck at grammar and writing. She makes it difficult to get an A in her class because it's 95% and above. I don't recommend her.
Took this class the fall semester of 2015. Good teacher, nice lady, but I'm not a fan of the grading scale. 100-95 is an A 94-85 is and a 84-75 is a C. Make sure to come to class too because we're assigned homework everyday! If you want a good teacher I recommend her but if you want an A, prepare to work hard.
Professor Simpson gives good feedback and is willing to help you. You must attend every class to pass, as there is always homework. Do not think you will be able to give excuses to miss class as she clearly states from day one that if you do not turn in assignments you will receive a zero. Grading scale 100-95 is an A 94-85 is and a 84-75 is a C.
Awesome teacher
I thought this teacher was going to be cool at first and then it turned into a nightmare. She focuses more on people following her every rule and not to focused on teaching you the material. I turned in two papers for a revision grade that I went to the writing lab to get extra help, and I still received a low B high C. STAY AWAY!
The class can be tough, but she is a good teacher. She is willing to go out of her way to help you if you need it.
Prof. Simpson is fantastic. She will make sure you grow in writing skills and make sure you pass with a good grade if you follow her directions and show that you want to pass. She is funny, smart, and very detailed. I highly recommend her if you want to learn to write opera for future classes!
This professor is the harshest grader I have ever had. She marks off a lot of points for small, understandable mistakes. If you do not come to class for any reason whether it be excused or not she is not helpful and speaks in a very condescending tone. She does not care about you or your grade. This professor made me feel like a complete idiot.
Professor Simpson, is an amazing teacher I failed her my first time due to my own problems and took her again. She helps students learn to write and gives extra time to make sure you understand the material. Come to class, do the work and you will pass this class.

She is really hard and strict but entertaining and great at what she does. You can ask for extra practice sheets and tests to better prepare yourself. No extra credit. Need dictionary and LBH.
Thought grader, not willing to work with students, doesnt take personal events into account. Lots of writing and no clear grading.

Professor Simpson's class is extremely difficult. Somehow, I got an A (95 or above), but it was what I would like to call impossible. However, she seems happy to be a teacher and gives great feedback. Do not miss class cause she does give an option for make up work, excused or not.
I love Professor Simpson. I took her for Comp 1 and Comp 2. A lot of people say she is a tough teacher, but she really cares about her students. I have always struggled in English class, but she really helped things make sense for me. She will go out of her way to help you if you come to her for help.

Very difficult and tedious. Gave the same test almost every week but it does help you memorize the material if you can get past how annoying it is. She is very strict about small things which would sometimes get on my nerves but overall she does help you learn.
Professor Simpson is a really good Professor but assigns a workload equivalent to three classes. She gives an insane amount of homework and grades really hard. I wouldn't recommend taking her class. Her grading scale is ridiculous. A 94 is a B and a 85 is a C in her class. Expect to do 5 hours a week for her homework alone.

She clearly has never heard of separation of church and state. Grades by 95-100 is an a, 85-95 is a b, etc. Does not have an inside voice. Not effective in actually becoming a good writer, uses a specific formula (Topic , primary support, secondary support, etc) so this class is really only useful for credit, not becoming a good writer.
You really have to read the textbook and study the material to receive the best grade possible, and apply it to papers, grammar and punctuation is highly Important when passing
Okay Im reading all of these comments and I just want to say if you actually do the work and do it right... THIS CLASS IS NOT HARD. Shes not mean, she has a big personality and shes funny when she wants to be. I suck at comp and I passed with an A. Pay attention to how things are set up and YOU WILL PASS EASILY!!!
Doable class but harsh grader when it comes to papers. She gives lot of homework (depending on your definition of a lot) but they're repetitive so they're not the worst. Goes pretty fast as well. Doesn't really teach, relies on the Little Brown Handbook. She's pretty funny and is always there to help if you have questions!
This course with Professor Simpson is an easy one if you make sure to do all assignments. There is lots of homework and papers but there is plenty of time to complete them. She expects great work not good but she is very helpful. Although she is a tough professor, she pushes her students to be the best that they can. Great professor overall!
If your good at writing essay then take professor Simpson. I had struggle in the class since my grammar suck. She seem like she care about us and our grade but shes a tough grader. She make you revise the same essay at least 3-4 times.
She is one of my favorite professors at the clearwater campus. I am going to be honest she is a little strict with her grading system, but she expects the best out of everyone. She does give a lot of work, but if you follow the instructions the work is very easy. I really loved her class, she is very funny I would definitely take her class again.
I would honestly never recommend this Professor. She lacks major communication skills and can be a tad rude when students have questions. The work was reasonable but she pushed religion very hard and picked topics that were very inappropriate in my eyes for a Professor to have you write essays about.
Prof. Simpson is one of the worst teachers I have taken. She made two students cry over the course of the semester, and basically didn't care about their situation at all. She is extremely biased and if you don't cater to her side, then you will not do good in her class. Avoid at all cost, and take Prof. Yow if you can.

This class is the only class I have EVER failed, she has her own grading system- a 75 is a "C", not a 70. You have to teach yourself all of the material, she rarely answers emails, and never gives feedback on anything. Her class is very biased, if you don't agree with her views you won't pass, and the work assigned is very vague and not concrete.
Prof Simpson is the worst English professor Ive ever had, she has tests every Wednesday on things weve never learned. She has 0 respect for her students at all. I missed class twice due to being hospitalized and Prof Simpson did not care. I received no extra time and she brought my grade down for my excused absence.
I don't know why others are talking about a lot of work, because she only gives 1 assignment each week for the class I took. She grades on the most asinine requirements (that usually even she doesn't meet if it's about grammar). Prepare to lose points for the dumbest things.
The workload isn't too bad towards the first half of the semester, she assigns one quiz or essay each week. But towards the second half of the semester, i wrote probably 4 or 5 essays. It was a lot, however it wasn't anything too hard. She's a pretty tough grader, so if you're a bad writer I wouldn't recommend this class. pretty understanding.
My main issue with this professor is that she would assign essays on a friday and have them due on sunday. So if you don't have a job or a life or anything going on on the weekends then sure, take her. Also gave instruction for the final paper the day before it was due, luckily she ended up pushing back the date reflected in the syllabus....
This professor made me work hard for my grade. I wish I had discovered this website sooner so I could have avoided a lot of stress. She has a tough grading system. You have to get a 95% or above for an A in this class. Don't take if you're a bad writer. Treats this entry level class like it's a class at a university.

I just started Professor Simpsons class. She did not ever reply to my email when I had internet issues and my Test submission didnt send. I was very apologetic and even said she didnt have to give me credit. No reply. Her grading is VERY harsh. If your english is not good you will be critiqued for every detail. RUN. I wish I withdrew.
She is a tough on grading paper and each homework you have to follow her guideline or you won't pass. And yes she is an English Police, make sure you read your paper many times before submitting.

Her grading scale is the worst you have to have a 95 or higher to get an A in the class and a B is 84-94. On top of this her grading is extremely harsh so if you suck at writing (like I do) dont get butt hurt when you end up with a B or even a C. There is also no extra credit and at least 2 essays a week
Not a terrible prof but probably isnt the best if youre going to take comp 2. Doesnt teach you much past what you couldve learned in high school. Harsh grader and very religious. Would not recommend taking if you want to grow as a student
Honestly, this Professor was the hardest so far. I am a straight-A student and my father is an ELA teacher. He would check my essays before submitting them and she would take points off for " commas". She would reply with pages from the textbook, without explaining. This is my only B in two years of college so far. Do not take her!!!!!
Mrs. Simpson likes to give a lot of homework. The homework is easy, so if you know the basics of writing it'll be breeze. Her feedback isn't the greatest, since most of the time it just shows the issue without how to fix it. She focuses on fonts and sizes a lot, even though her own kind of lacks.
My worst professor so far. The assignments were difficult to understand and she wasn't helpful at all. Writing skills didn't improve while taking this class last year, and towards the end of her course, I stopped doing the coursework so I could re-take the course with a different professor. I already improved drastically with my new professor.
Everyone should take comp with Prof. Simpson. I am currently getting my bachelors at USF and the students still don't know how to properly write an essay. If you take her class she'll break down the entire format and structure of the essay. She can be strict but she gives all of the materials that you need to succeed inthe class and future classes.
assignment instructions: unclear, confusing. grading system: horrifically vague. i got a B- and her only explanation was i used 2 commas incorrectly & my writing was "repetitious." it's an academic essay so yea i REPEATED THINGS. I followed reqs for sources, structure, formatting, etc. she doesn't care and seems to want us to fail. worst prof ever
This professor was a little overwhelming. She gave quite a lot of assignments and lots of instructions. But, I never felt like it was hard. She gave lots of instructions, but I'd rather be clear on what is expected of me. She was very kind and considerate. I didn't think she was too hard of a grader and gave A LOT of second chances.
I have already taken English Composition 1 previously and received an A! This teacher is confusing, a very tough grader, and is not clear whatsoever on her assignments, she makes things very complicated and stressful as a student. I had to take a withdrawal from her course so I can retake this course with a different professor! Stay away!!
Worst professor I've taken. Her grading scale is absolutely ridiculous, to get an A you must receive higher than a 95. While i took her for both comp 1 & 2, she decided to bring my grade up the first time and decided not to the second without any explanations. Do not take this course with her.

And there are very few assignments given making getting an A extremely difficult. All assignment distributed/submitted through email very hard to keep track of them.

But she is a tough grader, so you need to quadruple-check your work. you can't work ahead, and if you have a good excuse, you have three days to make up work. Professor Simpson is a tough grader with a strict grading scale; to get an A you must have a 95% or better. She takes a while to grade essays, often times waiting till the next one is due, leaving you unsure of what you need to improve on. Which might not matter anyways because the feedback she leaves is not always helpful.
I dont even know where to begin, she is an extremely tough grader. She wont let anything slide, if late she will make you turn the work in but for no points. Brings me to my next point, her grading point system is harsh 95 or below a b, 80 is a C, etc. if you take this class be prepared to write essay after essay and journal after journal
This professor was one of the worst ones I've had. Her grading scale is absurd a 95-100 was considered an A. I had to miss class one day because my windshield wiper fell off my car while it was raining and she was questioning me to find out if that really happened and was implying that I was lying. I would never take this professor again.
My grade should have been an A (91%), but she uses a ridiculous grading scale so I got a B. She talks fast and doesn't write most things down. When she leaves feedback on papers, her handwriting is sloppy and I can't even tell what she wants. She made us print everything one sided and a lot of printing even though blended class. Bad bad professor.
Professor Simpson runs a tough class, but the workload is manageable if you stay organized. The grading scale is strict, but she provides ample feedback. unstuck ai was a big help with study prep and staying on top of assignments.
I took this class last semester, and it was unpleasant. It felt like we were not TAUGHT anything but were constantly asked to perform skills. I was supposed to have an A but received a B after the last day of class, even though I was one of the only students who tried in her class. My GPA is worse than I feel I deserve, and I don't know why.
Take her online and her grading is ridiculous, minor mistakes please expect a 60%. If you have any plans for the weekend make sure you keep checking your email because she will send an email at 6pm that you need to revise work. if you take her class online just be prepared to read and write no learning The good reviews and "manageable" LIES!!
Worst professor ever. The grading is extremely harsh and she does not care one bit about your grades. Got dropped from the class which significantly hurt my GPA. Also, the courses were very unorganized making it difficult to find resources for assignments. Save your time and do not take this professor.
She doesn't care about your GPA. Her grading scale requires a 95-100 to earn an A, and you can't miss a single class. I had around a 95 on all the assignments I submitted, but because I missed one day of class the entire semester, I had a 62 by the time I dropped the course. I waited until the last minute to withdraw. She's very unreasonable.

This was a challenging class but my writing definitely did improve. There was lots of homework and assignments but it felt like she just chose random ones to actually count towards your grade. She does care about her students but if you aren't a good writer, don't take this professor you will struggle. You must be there every class.
There's a lot of writing and she isn't afraid to criticize. Definitely has an intimidating demeanor but if you can look past that it really won't matter much. If you follow the formatting to a T then you'll get good grades on the assignment, just take the notes she gives you and quadruple check everything. Not a class for procrastinators.
