For the record, he does not preach to his own views. He gives us the point of view of each religion we studied. Great class. opens your mind to a new way of thinking. If you cant understand that, then you probably shouldnt take the class

According to other reviews, he only expressed the feelings of other religions and not his own.According to that mentality, every Non Western religion hates America and that is the focus of their religion.Somehow "non western religion" turned into "America and its culture are terrible" not sure how that applies. His own views, not religious examples.

Awesome prof. Good discussions. Writing intensive class. Midterm, final, and one paper. You can either read a book and write a paper, or go to a yoga thing. If you want to pass, go to the yoga thing!

This rating is for his Self-Defense class. I have had him in CST class before. He is a fantastic teacher in defense and the martial arts. He is respectful and focuses on the point of being in class. BE QUIET when he says to be quiet, COME on time, and you will do fine. Put your all into it. He really likes that, and you will gain so much more .

Mid-term, final, and paper. The paper is based on the textbooks, unless you take the Experiential Opportunity, which I highly recommend. He may seem to be negatively biased toward Western culture at first, but in reality he simply helps people practice empathy with other cultures. Nice sense of humor, easily approachable. Loved his class.

I am in love with Anastacio. Also, his class is awesome. No text book, he just talks to you the whole time. Do the experiential experience. Hard grader. Very disciplined and very open-minded. Always plays the devils-advocate in discussion.

Decent prof. For a GE, his class is tough (I have a 4.0). We had 3 exams from lecture material and 1 paper. I went to every class & took diligent notes & could barely get a high B on the tests (after the curve). I wrote the paper from the book & it was tough, too. Spend the $25 & do the experience. This class is do-able but not a free ride to an A.

It may seem as though he is anti-Western culture at first, but he is simply trying to put other religions in perspective. It is a COMPARATIVE class.DONT MISS CLASS. It is all lecture based, nothing is posted online, and the notes are very subjective. He knows what he is talking about and encourages discussion in class but be prepared to back it up.

At first you won't like him or the class, but as time passes it becomes more clear that he is teaching the subject not trying to influence you to believe anything. He said these aren't his personal beliefs. You do have to pay attention. Didn't do the experience, I used the book. I'm in his Yoga class next semester, bc I loved his class by the end.

Nice guy, if a bit self-righteous. Often goes off-topic to snark at Western culture or anything he dislikes. Lectures felt more like sermons half the time. Tests are confusing and seem designed to trick you. Religious people will definitely want to avoid, unless they enjoy debate.

He is amazing. I hate powerpoint lectures and he just sits and has a discussion with the class. Its very engaging. He tells you exactly what to write down and before each test reviews it in case you missed it but that means you need to be in class. I've been in 4 different colleges since 2007 and he is by far my favorite professor.

He was very interesting and engaging. Definitely pretentious and a bit misinformed in some matters, but worth taking. He is very understanding and easy to comprehend, though extremely argumentative. Don't buy the book right away! Wait until you are sure you want to do the book assignment, as you have an option to do that or a cultural experience.

A lot of people misunderstand Anastasio. He teaches using the Socratic method, and challenges your preconceptions; he's not challenging you, but trying to make you think critically. You don't have to be intellectual, but people who are not rational thinkers, can't back up claims, or are not terribly intelligent won't do well in this class. Amazing!

Anastasio is one of my favorite professors so far. His lectures are interesting, and gives you a lot of examples so you can really understand the material. As others have said, he uses the Socratic method - So don't get mad at him, he's just trying to make you think critically.

He is by far the best professor I've had in my three years at wright state. He never says that western culture or religion is wrong, he just explains the perspective on it from other world views and challenges you to look at your life in a way other than how you were raised. Definitely come with an open mind.

He uses big words that you may have never heard in your life and go through a lot of information in a just one class period. Study the notes that night! All he does is talk in a very monotone voice the entire 120 minutes which makes the class drag on. He is not clear about material.. write down what he repeats and writes on the board. His tests are nothing like his lectures and try to trick you. Very hard grader. Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to.

Carmine is fascinating to listen to, and his classes are easy to succeed in if you go to class, pay attention, and take notes. The material is not exceedingly difficult, and he lectures to large class sizes. Many people take advantage of this and choose to not show up, which results in silly complaints about his competence. Don't listen, he's great

One of the smartest professors I've ever met. I found this course very difficult. No power points, no book, nothing. You take notes strictly off of his lectures. This class was interesting when I understood what was going on. Hard to understand material and frustrating when you can't refer to a book. Probably wouldn't take again.

Borderline genius, knows his material by heart and may come across as condescending. However, he always encourages us to speak up and challenging us to rethink everything we know about the world we live in. Answers any question. ONLY lectures, so take good notes.3 pretty straightforward tests,1 paper. Paper is harder if you don't take his workshop.

Carmine is fascinating and knows the material by heart. I would take him again if I could! The only cons would be you take notes strictly on the lecture and tests are kind of tricky but he's always willing to answer any question you have. He gives extra credit for participation as well which is a nice boost if you don't do well on the tests.

I found this class to be difficult. The tests were hard and he graded my paper pretty hard too. The class isnt on pilot so its hard to know where you stand in the class. Its not mandatory to attend class, but if you dont go, you probably wont do very well. I went to every class and took good notes, and I still got a C.

Not even done with the course, but you can tell he is not willing to put any effort into creating material for the class (4 total grades). Does not let you review your tests unless you ask... then doesnt show up to the appointment you made. I will be requesting a grade change if I dont receive what I earn, so avoid his classes no matter what.

Very interesting subject and he teaches it well. However, he makes the subject unbearable because his exams are impossible and very subjective. Went to every class and studied hard, still struggled. The class average of the exams went from a D to a C. Non one gets A's, only two or three get B's, nothing you can do about it.
