This teacher is honestly the worst when it comes to explaining anything in chemisty. She sets you up to fail! She doesn't care about her students at all! Her lectures are never helpful, because her handwriting is all over the place. She needs to learn how to write a test! Just don't take her!!! Be perpared to teach yourself.
This is a foreign professor so she has a medium to heavy accent which makes it a little more difficult to follow along. She loves to include mechanism drawings in her tests, yet the final does NOT include any drawings! Her lectures don't really have a clear objective. I think if she stated her objective, the students would understand better.
Its organic chem! of course its hard. But she makes it easier. She was really helpful and even came in on Sunday to help me and other students get a better understanding of the material. It doesn't hurt that she is sexy!
A tough teacher, but the BEST. I worked very hard for my grade but it was rewarding. Take this class, study the notes, and do practice problems.
Loved this class. The professor is very knowledgeable, patient, and willing to help. Take the class but you will have to work for your grade.
She have high expectation but she is willing to help. I learned a lot, would take her again.
Dr. Alexenberg always was helpful and answered emails within a day.
She is always willing to help and go over answers, she answers emails prompt, and is extremely fair and kind. She takes attendance, and if you do not go to class, she is not as nice, or forgiving. Organic isn't easy, but in her words "I'm not here wanting to fail you!". TAKE HER!!!
Professor Alexenberg is by far one of my favorite at Nova. She does an exceptional job at explaining and making difficult to understand organic chemistry topics very easy to understand. She is also very friendly, and very knowledgable in her field! I will take her again for Organic Chemistry 2
Amazing professor! She helped me endlessly throughout the course and was very approachable and easy to talk to.
A great teacher! Make organic chemistry interesting. Learned a lot and had fun (especially in lab).
She is super cool in lab, she jokes and makes class fun!! If you go to her office hours she will help you. Good luck to anyone taking orgo in the future.
Absolutely wonderful instructor. Her confidence shows in her teaching, and how she wants the best for her students. Her willingness to go out of her way for her students, and make sure that she knows the material helps tremendously.
As with any Organic Chemistry class- its going to be very difficult, however Carmit is a very good teacher once you get passed the accent. She spends a lot of time on the basics and ensures excellent development, and gives you the tools to get a good grade on the ACS. Her labs are also amazingly easy but fun, definitely take her if you can.
Carmit is by far the safest choice for Organic. Her accent is not bad as people say. The only thing that she struggles with is her handwriting. Lab is painless and are based off of Shanbags. She seems to be always available for her students and genuinely wants you to do well. She doesnt want you to fail and is very straightfoward
Very good professor who shows genuine interest in her student's understanding. Though the material is heavy, she makes sure to let students know it's possible to learn and master the material. Some students find her a bit intimidating, but she is kind and funny
Dr. Alexenberg is by far the best professor I have had the pleasure of learning from at NSU. Organic Chemistry is a tough subject, taught by anyone, but Dr. Alexenberg by far makes this subject the most fascinating. She is great at explaining tough concepts in her lecture and is 100% available to you the entire semester via email. Would take again
This is Organic Chemistry. Do NOT expect to take Alexenberg and get an "easy" A. Expect to work your ass off for the A. She will be there for you, trying to work so her students succeed. She makes hand written review notes for her students to study off. She teaches you the actual chemistry instead of just saying "memorize the patterns".
Definitely one of my favorite professors this semester. Orgo is a hard subject no matter who you take, but I loved it with Alexenberg! I recommend going to her office hours and creating a connection with her, and shell help you out.
Carmit is awesome and I wold recommend her class to everyone. She really cares about her students and she is always willing to meet with students and assist them in any way that she can. She never judges you for any question you ask.
If you want to pass, avoid this professor. Hard to pass her tests
She's nice and helpful in office hours. She actually does stop during lecture and asks us if we understand the topic, unlike most teachers. I will definitely try to take her for orgo 2.
She goes way too fast during lecture, and her tests are very difficult. The practice problems that she assigns or recommends from the textbook are way too easy compared to the tests that she gives and shes a really hard grader for lab reports. Take someone else for Orgo 1
Horrible experience. Pretty sure all of the good reviews were written by her. She knows her content, however, is unable to explain it so that students can understand her.
Worst chem teacher ever!!! Cares more about getting through the material on time by speeding through it than having students understand it. Homework is nothing like the Test. Just don't take her!
TAKE ANYONE BUT HER!!! LITERALLY DOES NOT CARE. WILL ROLL HER EYES AT YOU DURING LECTURE WHEN EXPLAINING A TOPIC THAT TO HER (OFC!!) IS EASY. TESTS ARE INCREDIBLY HARD AND CORRECTIONS DO NOT HELP AT ALL!
She doesn't teach well and doesn't know the basics of organic.
Worse professor I ever had
Learned so much. She was very helpful and always made time for students. Orgo is really hard and I dont think I would have even passed with another professor
Professor Alexenberg ensured all students understood the content and made time for students if needed. She did reviews before the exam that helped solidify the information we learned.
Carmit was a pretty great professor. She showed compassion and drive to her students, which made the class more interesting. Although the class itself was a little hard, thats to be expected from organic chemistry.
I really enjoyed the teaching style and the difficulty of the exams. She tested you on the essentials and did not try to be tricky or confusing. Sometimes the handwriting made lectures confusing. The lab was great and focused on learning the concepts and getting experience rather than being just a grade.
She was great. Just make sure you're always studying and do practice problems everyday and a high grade is achievable.
Dr. Alexenberg is one of my favorite professors at Nova. She is very approachable and easy to talk to. She genuinely cares about her students and is willing to explain the material in even greater detail to provide a better understanding. I wish she was teaching Organic Chemistry 2 in the winter semester!
she is a good teacher however her tests are hard and the textbook cannot prepare you enough because the exercises she puts on the test are way more complicated, especially with a class that has a short running time.
She is the worst professor, her exams are super hard. Dont take her.
Shes the worst professor ever. Her exams are on another level compare to what she teaches in class. Dont take her.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE SHE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN THE MATERIAL
Dr. Alexenberg is INCREDIBLE. She is extremely realistic about what will be expected of you on the ACS, and she doesn't mess around and throw curveballs. She is a chemistry genius, and she is super approachable. The lab was extremely chill too. I wish I could have taken her for org 2.
She tries to lower your lab score as much as possible She penalizes for every minimal detail and contradicts herself in her own lab instructions Her tests have nothing to do with the HW or the textbook She is mean when approached In her class you never know whether she is trying to help you learn the material or weed you out she wrote her reviews
Her tests are nothing like her homework or lectures. She grades the homework based on completion, so you're not aware if you're doing the problems correctly. In lectures, all her examples are very easy understandable, while the questions on the exam are difficult to solve. She tend to contradict herself in lectures and get mad if you called her out
Worst professor I've EVER taken! I'm a straight-A student and got a C. I studied 6 days a week and did all her homework (which was like 70-100 questions from the book due every week) and still. Her exams are nothing like her homework. She will never give a 100 on lab assignments, always takes dumb points off. SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR GRADE!!!!!!!!!!!
She is medium difficulty and yes her tests aren't formatted like the homework, but the questions are the same difficulty. Practice! I went to office hours often and she always encouraged me to do better. She's picky but I ended up with an A in lab bc I paid close attention! Take her if you are willing to communicate with her and put in work
These reviews make you think she's horrible but she is pretty good. True, she assigns a lot of hw but if you study lecture notes then it shouldn't take you long. Her tests are definitely doable if you know your stuff, and she offers test corrections in the form of hw. For lab, pay attention to how she details the exp and write reports based on that
Her averages on all tests were failing grades. if you have the opportunity to take someone else, take someone else! She's hard to understand and sloppy with her notes, the material that is given to practice from isn't a reflection of the test, and just avoid her if you can.
I don't recommend taking this professor at all. Tests are difficult and have 7-8 answer choices. Notes aren't clear at all. She does not go over homework mistakes or tries to make sure students understand the class. You have to calculate your grade yourself, she doesn't tell you your grade until the end. Save yourself and do not tale this teacher.
Worst professor I have seen in my whole academic career! How did she even get hired in the first place? There is not correlation between her exams and what she has for her hw or lectures. Sloppy handwriting. No one asks her questions in class because she terrifies everyone. Please get anyone besides her, so much unnecessary stress with taking her!!
I hated this class. Shes the worst Professor Ive ever had in the entirety of my academic career. I dont even know why she teaches. Take any other option you have.
Dr. Alexenberg is the best there is. She makes organic chemistry simple. Most students lack the competence to understand the basic concepts which she simplifies to its core. She provides extra credit, numerous opportunities to buffer grades, and offers resources for your success. The students who fail and complain don't make it far in life.
This was the worst professor I have had by far!! Does not know how to explain material properly without contradicting herself. I basically had to teach myself the whole semester. Please do not choose this professor she will ruin your grades!!!
Alexenberg is the key to your success in organic chemistry. She simplifies everything to its core so it is the foundational understanding of all reactions and theory which can be applied to more complex situations. She is the best. These students who criticize her are those with 1.0 GPA's and expect life to be handed to them on a silver platter.
Alexenberg is truly a great professor. She teaches you the core concepts and this will aid you in the future with MCAT, DAT, etc. Tests are 30 questions, all multiple choice, and has extra credit. She basically drops your lowest test by weighing it differently. Anyone with half a brain cell can do well, don't listen to these numb-skulled failures.
Dr. Alexenberg is the BEST! Her lectures include everything you need for her exams and the ACS exam, she always willing to help, and give you extra credit assignments to help your grade. Make sure to attend the lectures and do the homework (a lot). I wish I could take her for org 2.
Orgo Chem is a hard course it, and taking it with Dr. Alexenberg didn't make it any easier. I had to teach myself the material the entire time. She decided mid-semester to teach the rest of the material by writing things on a board on the other side of the huge lecture hall. No extra credit. The only good thing is that her labs are easy.
Dr. Alexenberg is great! Regardless of the prof, you HAVE TO study 100% to pass the course. Weekly hw assignments but good practice for the exams. Before exams, she uploads an exam review of everything that is supposed to be on them. As well as zoom reviews the week of the exam. She does offer test corrections too. Study, and attend SI&TTC sessions
NSU's science department never ceases to amaze me. So sad to think schools such as community colleges have a better science department than NSU who is accredited and claims to be the top in healthcare degree programs. This class was the most horrid class I have ever taken. This professor does not care and grades very harshly. 0/10 reccomend. HORRID
Thick accent. Stop looking here trying to get a professor that will be an easy A. Organic is one of the, if not THE, hardest courses in UG Chem, as it's meant to weed people out of being pre-med. You have to study. She does not give extra credit, but gives HW and is clear about exams. I put in 25 hours/ week outside of lecture to get the grade
having ppts throughout the semester would have been helpful in our understanding as she started using whiteboards on opposite ends of lecture halls to handwrite notes with no other learning material. it was hard to learn and handwrite everything she was writing, making me teach myself the material. no extra credit, lots of hw, but approachable.
Nice teacher, hw doesn't match test. Tests are very difficult, and doesn't teach well. She also has a thick accent so once you're lost in lecture, you don't know what's going on. However, she's a nice person. The test averages are failing grades.
This was the worst. I got an A in O1 and then a D in O2. I've taken the course with another professor and got an A. Seems like I am not the problem then. This woman is the worst, uncaring, unsympathetic, and rude professor ever. Not sure how she still has a job. She gives false hope to students just to fail them in the end.
Dr. Alexenberg is a great organic chemistry professor. This is organic chemistry, so don't expect to get an easy A. If you put in the work and pay attention during lecture, it pays off! She is a very kind professor. I highly recommend Dr. Alexenberg for organic.
Alexenberg is a great Orgo professor. Her lectures are great and super helpful; if you choose not to go to class, her exams are based on the textbook so self studying is also very viable. She gives students a ton of exam prep, including practice exams which basically mirror the actual exam. All in all, great professor and good grading criterea.
Sadly she's really rude, like its unnecessary. Really passive aggressive, even tho she tries to be nice/funny with like 3 students she picks to like in class. She yells at you in lab over little things and tries to embarrass you. she does give a lot of test prep material tho. Shes just too much, gives a practical when other orgo 2 profs dont
I like how she is accessible in office hours and provides different opportunities for students to succeed in a challenging course including providing practice materials, extra credit opportunities, etc. Sometimes the material in class was covered a little quickly and we were in a time crunch, but overall, she is awesome!
Dr. Alexenburg is a good Organic Chemistry Professor and is able to teach the fundamentals of Organic Chemistry very well. She truly cares about her students doing well as long as they put the effort in.
I had Dr. A for both orgo 1&2, overall she's a really great prof! She gets her lecture material from the book, provides EC that can boost exams by 1-2 letter grades (she'll take 100%+ exam grades), flexible with hw/lab report deadlines, exam structure similar to practice exams. Gotta put in the work on ur end, but if u do, it isn't too bad.
The BEST chemistry professor I have ever had!
Really nice and approachable teacher. Aslong as you pay attention in class and take notes you will be more than prepared enough for the 3 exams and acs. The review material is very helpful to prepare. there are also many opportunities for extra credit with the exams. Ochem is still a hard class and will require effort regardless of the teacher.
Dr. Alexenberg is an amazing professor. Incredibly caring and genuinely passionate about what she is teaching. She gave chances left and right for us to improve our grades. Super helpful during lab and has good communication skills. Love her.
Dr. Alexenberg makes Orgo a subject you can take on and succeed. She's very nice, explains everything well and gives lots of extra credit. Make sure to do lots of practice problems outside of lecture and the regular homework she gives. She is also very accessible in office hours and cares a lot that the students will succeed.
Really good professor, probably the best organic chemistry professor at NSU. Gives a ton of extra credit, and her exams are completely predictable. At no point should you ever be surprised by anything on the exam. She gives practice exams before each of her exams which perfectly reflect the content and concepts she is about to test.
A very sweet and caring professor. She has a concept approach to understanding orgo and does offer a lot of material to help prepare you. Regarding labs, she's more concerned about teaching the relevance of the mythology as oppose to statistical accuracy which helped me to appreciate orgo. Despite my disability, she was there to assist me
HMW are completions. There are 3 tests and the ACS, no midterm. Labs are not hard. Gives practice tests that are very helpful for the tests. The material is just hard to learn. Every test has Extra credit
Great professor! Teaching well and cares a lot about her students.
Overall great professor, I didnt go to lecture much so I am not sure how her teaching is, I think orgo is going to be work no matter who you take, I taught myself with all of her resources. The practice tests and review sheets were exactly like her exams. She gives a little bit of extra credit on exams no curve.
Dr. Alexenberg is amazing professor, she was very easy to work with and went over practice exams before tests that were exactly like her exam. Of course you have to study to understand Organic chemistry because it's a very complex topic, but taking Alexenberg will help ease you into the topic. She also gives lot of extra credit.
The best chemistry professor I have ever had! Great in explaining complicated concepts and was always available when I needed extra help.
I got two Ochem professors. One for lab and one for lecture. I had Alexenberg for lab. This made things incredibly difficult because they were not cooperating. She also speaks very fast and keeping up with her brought me so much anxiety. I wouldn't recommend this professor. My entire class struggled this semester. Atleast she grades fairly.
Dr. A gives extra credit on every test - helped me learn the material more. Tests same format as practice ones she posts. Nothing is ever a surprise. She goes a little fast during lecture and can be slightly intimidating at times, but she explains things very well. HW is completion. Lab is graded super fairly. Don't be shy and put in effort!
She's nothing special, glad im not taking her for orgo2, she has a short temper and makes a bunch of snarky comments to students even if your asking a question to clarify. She oversimplifies things to the point of not even knowing the concept, test are ok. there are definitely other professors that are much better
Don't recommend if you didn't take her for Orgo I. Her lectures are not even close to what's on her exam. She'll say you don't need to know the mechanism but then ask it on the test anyway. She takes attendance. She's not very approachable in lab or during class, but office hours are a little better. Doesn't curve but does have 7 EC points per test
Dr. Alexenberg is a very straight forward and thorough professor. Exams are similar to practice and extra credit opportunity is given for each exam. She talks a bit fast so be sure to pay attention. Do not be shy with her, see her in office hours and be straightforward about your questions! She's awesome if you show her you're putting in effort!
Her lectures are very organized and set up so that you are pretty much forced to take notes because it helps retain information better. She gives extra credit opportunities on exams. Sometimes it is hard to follow along in class because she went fast in lecture. Very approachable, especially during office hours.
Professor Alexenberg is very fair to her students and about what she expected - there are no surprises. Lectures are very organized. She is genuinely interested in her students and wanted them to succeed. Excellent professor!!
Just don't, though I passed it was not thanks to her. She will teach one thing and then something that was never taught is on the test. If you take her download Pearson t and teach yourself through there she 1s rude and condescending of any questions asked and looks down on you because you "should know It”
Not sure why everyone favors her, the whole department is just concerning, take orgo in another school. Super rude in lab, she thinks she can get mad at you if something breaks. "Extra credit" is 7 points on the exams test corrections even if you got questions right, and explain why. The class average on exams is like a 45, no curve just 7 points.
Dr. Alexenberg is an interesting professor every time you would ask her to clarify a topic or any question she would always seem annoyed or respond with weird commentary. Her accent makes it difficult sometimes to understand the lecture. Overall I would say this class is self-taught you either get it or you don't. Good luck!
Very kind, fair, and knowledgeable. Easy to talk to and explaining all the concepts well rather than making the stud
didnt like her at all, she lectures too fast and she explains things easily with easy practice problems yet on the exams will ask the hardest questions. shes not approachable or too nice either. HW is literally around 70 questions long for each chapter 4-7. she jumps around a lot in lecture (no PPT) and is quick so class is exhausting
Not too sure why she's liked, her exam averages are 40s and teaches one thing and tests another. Personally, unless you're studying everything on your own and using outside resources i don't think her tests are fair at all. I wouldn't take her again i'm definitely going for slawek for orgo II
hated this class so much id drive to class breaking the speed limit without my seatbelt. the ppl on here saying her exams mirror the practice- LIES- theyre like 10x easier so when you open the test youre like cooked. she assigned a bunch of hw but at least theres 1 extra credit question per test :/
AVOID AVOID AVOID Would never take her again. Exams are harder then the practice exams she offers. She goes SOOO FAST during lectures and she has an accent so it makes it harder to keep up. Guys dont take her seriously. I know orgo is hard but taking her will make you question if your good enough to even attend medical or P.A school.
The BEST professor at NSU!
She's a nice professor and if you go to her classes you will do decent. She's a bit intimidating during office hours but if you show her you want to learn she will help you. Her and Aukzi have lab practicals which seem unnecessary.
One of the best orgo professors at NSU. If you can, take her for both orgo 1+2. She can go very fast during lectures but she responds to emails quickly and makes time to meet with students outside of the classroom no matter what. She gave extra credit opportunities for every exam and weekly HW were always graded for completion. Overall, amazing
Dr. Alexenberg is an exceptional professor. Her class is built in a way that the students have every tool at their disposal to succeed, it lies on the student to then use those tools to succeed. She provided plenty of practice material, in-depth exam review videos, and was extremely helpful and available at office hours.
This was a great class Dr. Alexenberg, was a great Professor, which helped us a lot to succeed in the class.
