I am usually good at english classes,in all my schooling I have never had trouble with it. This teacher makes it something else, idk what everyone here is talkign about but she is the WORST teacher ever. Do anything possible to not take her. She just tries to make college hard for students and it's impossible to please her.

Not a very nice teacher, she's rude and assigns long readings from text book, in one class we had to read 35 pages from our lit book then she expected us to know all the terms for review! If you are a full time student you should not take her class, she expects way to much. She makes the college experience horrible!!!

She is the absolute worst, I completely regret taking her class! If she does not like you it will be obvious. I can't seem to even ask questions with out a rude or snide remark. This teacher goes over the top she takes her degree to another level on students that are not majoring in this. She expects you to just focus on her class she gives pop quiz once a week reading are ridiculous, essays if arent done her way good luck with passing her class. i would not recommend her to anyone.

Dr. Bernard is a super hard grader. I took her British Literature class and it was a world wind ! She is a very strict professor and will not go out of her way to help anyone. If you get on her bad side then you are done for. I am an English major at a real university now and she did me no justice.

Her style of teaching severely undermines the Texas educational system and shallow interactions with her students creates a cold and meaningless learning environment.

Look, English has been one of my favorite subjects throughout all my schooling. I've seemed to enjoy the readings and find a way to entertain myself in the boring text. BUT THIS WOMAN MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE. I don't recommend taking this class to anyone. Awful teaching style, lectures dull, rude, sarcastic,.... I don't have enough characters to finish.

I wish I would have not taken her class. It took so much out of me and made me feel dumb. Almost as if my best was not good enough. She is very different from any professor I've had. No sympathy what so ever. Students if you take her good luck passing. She does not post grades to view. Half of the class will drop the course before the final exam.

DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She is extremely strict,. Assigns god awful reading assignments. She will belittle you, unintentionally of course. She has her Doctorates in English and she treats her classes as if you were actively trying to pursue yours as well. Tough grader who gives minimal feedback. Why? HOW SWAY? HOW? In High school I was always conmended on my writing skills. When attending her class, however, continuously I would go home feeling terrible about my ability! Insulting, doesnt tell you what youre doing wrong! Just simply tells you youre wrong. I would not suggest her. Her rating on this website is inaccurate. Wanna pass? Dont take this class.

DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS AT ANY COST!!!! She is a super tough grader and has a quiz everytime we meet for class. She as very high expectations and unless you have nothing in your life other than her class, you won't get a high grade. She expects you to be perfect which is impossible. Just please don't go for her class, there are plenty of others.

Dr. Bernard was very difficult to work with and condescending in class. I dropped her after 2 weeks. Something I have never done in any class, ever!

Dr. Bernard level of expectation is absolutely unrealistic, she is very indirect with what she wants and always inconsistent. Writing is about freeing your mind, and not having strict guidelines of what a paper SHOULD look like. However Dr. Bernard forces her view of writing and completely ignores your own creativity.

Nothing is too difficult if you manage your time well. Most assignments are easy grades. Despite this, Carol is very condescending, petty, and unreasonable. She'll often speak on subjects she has no knowledge on and is in a constant, pathetic attempt to prove herself. The lessons are unclear and redundant. She is a bad teacher. Avoid her.

Terrible professor, does not teach anything specific about writing but grades extremely strictly.

Had her for a class before, but she wasn't nearly as unreasonable. She gives failing grades for assignments that were supposed to be "easy," but provides no clear instruction. Papers and assignments are not detailed, so there's no chance of doing well. Got an A in her previous class, but this experience is one that I would have rather avoided.

Gives feed back but makes rude comments when you dont do something right. She degrades you when you ask for help. Grades VERY hard. Definitely would not recommend.

Horrible teacher, although she may say that she wants you to succeed she is extremely unclear with her instructions and is an extremely tough grader. She is very closed minded to her ways of doing things. As an English teacher that is a horrible quality and I have not learned a thing from her class. Waste of time and money.

She's very condescending and I have not learned a thing from her. She couldn't help even if I was in her office hours regarding how to succeed. Not even tutoring would help me succeed in her course. This is like taking this course if a person is in English major for this course, because you need to understand everything covered to pass this course.

Honestly the worst experience with an English teacher I've ever had in my life. I did not learn a single thing from this class. This is a first-year class and she expects you to write like you're an english major. Even the counselor that helped me picked classes warned me about her and her class. I really wish I could give her a 0 across the board.

No work will EVER be perfect for this teacher. You think you did an amazing job and when she gives you your grade back you will be disappointed. I took her class through zoom and it was the most stressful class I took this semester.

Professor is very rude especially when you ask questions. She will ignore questions and usually just says something on the lines of "pay attention next time". There is no in-between grades here,it's either a 0 or a 100,and most of the time you will get a 0. Very unclear about instructions. YOUR TIME IS NOT WORTH WASTING ON THIS PROFESSOR.

Unbelievably difficult to work with, nothing except her regimented incomprehensible writing style will earn a passing grade. Limits any freedom with assignments, is condensing over minute things. Worse than your worse high school teacher, by miles. Would drop if I could, avoid at all costs.

So incredibly unprofessional. Is unkind and talks down to those she doesn't think are good students. Tough grader. Hypocrite. Makes assignments hard to understand and does not accommodate students that need accommodations. Her teaching style is harsh and she's malicious. Calls on students and demands they answer when visibly very uncomfortable.

This class was intolerable, she speaks to students like we are dumb sometimes. The coursework in general was fine but the way she taught, graded, and gave feedback was really bad in my opinion. She was almost intimidating not gonna lie

Dr. Benard is by far the worst instructor I have had. Her tone when talking to students seems condescending. Her way of teaching is, "it's my way or the highway". Whatever she says goes and if you go against it, you fail. Do not take her class if you want actual respect.

This teacher is very strict with her grading. One of my assignments actually accomplished the word count, however she decided to gave me a 0. When I realized my work was actually right, I told her but she refused to changed my grade. Don’t take her class is a waste of time.

Extremely hard class. If you need the credit look somewhere else. If your up for a steep up hill battle than you got one if you choose this class. Don't miss more than 4 days because she won't drop you she'll just give you a 0 in the class and you can't change it.

This professor is completely unreasonable and is very much my way or the highway. She wouldn't listen to her student when we had problems. She has a group extra credit assignment where if no one uses their phones all week we would get one point towards our final grade count. This would apply even if someone had an emergency. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!

She is very rude cocky and self elegant. Self centered doesnt care for her own students. She does not take into account any needs that may need to be met by her students. Her microphone would not work and it was hard to nhear her. She did not take the time needed to help students that need it. If you need to take an English class DONT TAKE HERS!

She seems ok as a person, but she is unreasonable about electronics. She makes us put our phones away, which I get, but we can't use our laptops in class even though we live in a day and age of computers. I use my laptop for all my tasks, like scheduling things and working on all my classes. For example, note-taking, Saving assignments, LEARNING.

She is hilarious in a way that you laugh in pain because the class will discuss a small topic for a whole class as opposed to things that actually matter. You will play musical chairs everyday in an effort to waste time because she is a horrible professor who relies on group work instead of her weak teaching abilities.

If you miss more than four days of class, instead of dropping you She will give you a zero for the class. She also threatens your attendance against you for not participating in lessons that take valuable time. She will also take entire classes to talk about small subjects when, a few days later, an essay or important grade is due. DO NOT TAKE HER

She has a phone policy- ANY teacher with an explicit and talked-about phone policy is obviously trying to hide something about themselves or the course. She has a rough grading policy, an all-or-nothing sort of mindset. She gives out extra credit because she knows many if not all students will FAIL her class without it.

Just don't take it, if you do. drop it

had to write 5 page paper about beyonce. then rewrite a whole new 5 page paper about beyonce because the assignment was unclear. then had to read someone elses 5 page paper about beyonce. this class made me consider dropping out.

Phone/late policy, essays worth way too many points of your grade, GROUP essays, super nitpicky about sentence structures/etc in essays.

I took this course a year ago, but I like to come back to this page to laugh and reminisce on the horridness. Take any other English course but this one-worst class I've ever been in-absolute nightmare. She will wreck your writing style (she wants blunt and dry), makes you talk about the "wonder" of popstars, and lots of group essay work. run.

Very horrible professor, would not take her if you are not an English major or just ever. Please save yourself and your mentality from this class because of her.

She is an incredibly strict grader but doesn't give you exact guidelines of what she wants. The only way to pass is to ask her exactly what she is looking for on whatever assignment you are doing to ensure it is to her liking. Also do not have your phone out in class or she will have a literal aneurysm.

As someone who prides themself on their writing abilities, I can attest to the complete over-reliance of writing for assignments in this class. Grades will never be above 90, so don't even bother. Every grade counts. I barely made it with my 79.8, and I've written an actual BOOK. If that shows how terrible the problem is, then my work is done here.

Would not recommend AT ALL. Always giving very unclear criteria/expectations, contradicting statements/instructions, and avoids giving clear answers to questions. Dreaded going to this class. She told us straight up she didn't expect most people to pass. Her grading is confusing as she often marks points off for things she instructed to be there.

Do not take

Carrying around class books is mandatory and points will get marked off if you do not have. No technology allowed at all. Attendance is mandatory as well- you will get kicked if you have more than 3 absences. There are no redos and you get one chance on assignments. Heavily relies on group work. Do not take unless you want to waste your time.

When you get an essay, it feels like you're guessing what she wants. She'll give short direction like "Re-word it", and won't elaborate. You could write word for word what she told you to, and still be counted wrong. Very strict on attendance, talking, and phones. The readings she chooses are just terrible. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

Bernard's class isn't hard to pass, however, is an irritating teacher to work with. She contradicts a lot of her "advice" on your essays and forces you to print every single article and essay for her class as she PROHIBITS any electronics in her class which is ridiculous. Have an essay she doesn't like? She will make you print out a new one.

You would be tested every week. Lots of homework.

I would highly not recommend taking Ms. Bernard. While I was taking the course I did not hear any good reactions to her teaching style. It was a zoom course so I am not sure if the experience is different in person. More than half the class ended up dropping and I failed due to submitting a rough draft late for an essay.

She had insanely arbitrary and strict criteria that made it much easier to fail than to succeed. If she thinks you are unprepared for a school day, she counts this as an absence, if you come in after class starts (12:00 PM in my case) that's an absence not a tardy, and 4 of these results not in her giving you a 0 for every remaining grade

Dr. Bernard only uses extremes when it comes to grading. She'll have journals that's worth 10 points, and quizzes worth 5. If any of the criteria, is wrong, it's a zero, not any number between. If a group member in a project makes a mistake with formatting and you cannot catch it, you get minus 10 percent off the essay. I think I'm going to fail.

This person spent more energy on her politics than the subject material. I Ended up retaking the class at another school when I transfered because I didn't learned anything helpful from her class. She even screamed at a student in class for not calling her "Dr. Bernard." Who ever hired her owes the students an apology. DO NOT TAKE THIS person.

Definition on what is wrong with modern academia. Did not read any actual pieces of literature, just cringeworthy articles about marvel. Spends more time talking about Woke Politics and Celebrities than how to write essays. She will treat you like a middleschooler and has a annoying policy of making you fail if you cannot print her articles

Professor is extremely irritating. You could do everything right but say you forgot to do something that only SHE asks you to do wrong, no credit. I have never struggled in an English Class until hers, she has too many rules and particulars in her class to keep track of. Evil, Wicked women projecting her childlessness and misery onto young adults.

My biggest issues with her is that she loves you contradict herself. She told me that the intro to my essay was too long and to keep it simple. After I shortened the intro she then said that it was too short. When she gives “advice” about essays, it's just her telling us what to write and crossing out anything she doesn't like.

Unempathic uncaring Pyscopath. She is able to present as “caring” but when you ask her for help with something she gets annoyed and doesn't help. She only wants her way. You are not allowed to express creativity in this class, only her hundreds of unnecessary and unorthodox rules. avoid at all costs!

she is a big fan of Lord of the rings. it's just essencial course, and what she does is treating this class like major. I highly don't recommend to take this. whatever you write, she will remove and push her style. there will not be the space your creativity.

Yells in front of the class and has a weird fetish for Lord of the rings fan fictions and is clearly jealous of female students because she lacks beauty inside and out. Awful professor. Avoid at all costs. Unnecessarily harsh grader, contradicts herself regularly, doesn't give good feedback, and is very anti-technology which doesn't help anyone. She deducts the class a point if a phone is out. Which she ISN'T ALLOWED TO DO (SAYS HER BOSS). If you take this class, the only thing you're paying for is to fail.

This professor is by far the worst I have ever seen. It's shocking she's still even working. Apparently she's being protected by tenure which is the only thing keeping her from getting fired for how bad of a professor she is. She causes students unnecessary stress, and doesn't listen to her boss. No matter how hard you work, nothing will please her

Oh, Carol.. Where do I begin.. hate is too kind of a word for the amount of disdain I hold for this creature. If there was only one tree left on Earth, she would make you chop it down and use it as printer paper for five 10-page articles. If the only way to save Earth from the sun exploding was taking her class, I suggest putting on some sunscreen.

There is something deeply demonic like about her presence. She does not take care of her dental situation. As someone who expects so much from her students she sure doesn't expect much about herself and it shows. She's like Michael Myers in halloween waiting to attack her students.

Don't take this class if you have other classes or work.

I took her before and I still have nightmares about this lady, she wears knee high socks with rubber sandals, shes so unprofessional and says that we are adults but talks to us like children, do not take her class she is vile to say the least, and usually I do not criticize peoples looks but she deserves it.

Do not take this class if you like writing. All of your creativity will be squashed into a plastic and generic version of what once was. You cannot write what you want here. You will write what you're told.

Do not take her if you have a choice, she is a tough grader you will almost never get an A or 10/10 or 5/5 its impossible to follow along with her. if you ask a question or you don't know the answer to something she has asked she will make you feel dumb. I love English and this class was awful for me.

If you do everything she says for you to do...YOU WILL STILL NOT GET A 100. I'm sorry but she shouldn't be professor. Treats us like little children and when you ask a question she will look at you like you dumbfounded. She can be kind and is very knowledgeable, but overall I wouldn't recommend her. She is still a human tho and I hope the best.

I beg you if you ever choose to enroll in her class, drop it before the census date to avoid the 3peat rule. Cut your losses and take the course again the next semester with a different professor. No electronics, ridiculous syllabus, will talk to you like a child, wastes time explaining nonsense, EVERYTHING is handwritten, and grading is ridiculous

Her expectations are not realistic and unfair.

Exhausting class, comes off petty, treats you like a child, hard no tech environment, it's not about learning or improving but doing it her way, she doesn't seem to believe in earning full credit, sent out messages with important information late on Fridays and expects you to have read and applied the information before Monday. So many issues.
