80% of your grade is based on two short essays. the rest is from lengthy discussion posts. overall easy class and you learn a lot but it made me nervous that you dont know where you stand in the class until the very end.
Great class! Films were awesome, especially on U.S. in the world and civil rights in 1960s and made it relevant to today. Discussions were quick to do, with some homework questions in them, but they are easy to look up, & interesting. This class had clear information in Canvas on explaining everything, and you can make the films go faster. : ) Fun.
Prof really made this class interesting and easy to follow in Canvas, the films helped a lot with understanding the history. She's also very nice prof and helpful in office hours, and she's helps you with improvements and has some extra credit. Also very organized online class, one of best. I double counted this hist class for GE & US hist at CSU.
Excellent history class with extra credit to help out. Very clear and entertaining.
Had her in Fall 2021 asynchronous. Very thorough and concise professor, everything is laid out for you. Grade reflected off of really long discussion posts (10 total), two essays (midterm and final), plus short answer midterm. Discussions would take forever to complete due to watching so many films and citing so many documents. No late work.
This course was a good one, with great films on modern U.S. especially on 1960s. Flexible class, you can do the discussion posts any time you want during the week, very reasonable, & you can speed up films, and there is plenty of time to do the exams, plus free points for 1 discussion post. Prof is nice & gives helpful feedback in office hours.
One of the best teachers and makes the class fun. I took her in-person History 17A - highly recommend. This professor helps you a lot and shows interesting sides to history connecting to today's issues. Loved movies on the American Revolution and its impact for people over time, also how Native Americans built huge pyramids. Has some extra credit.
tones of work every week. Ready to spend 1+ hour on every discussion which is on every week. Vague grading in discussion, she won't give you feedback nor she grade your discussion quickly. I got my grade after finishing the semester.
Whatever you do, do not take her asynchronously, it's very true that you have a discussion every week, and the midterm and final are essays that you must do, graded by very few things, midterm and final are worth 200 points each, while discussions are only worth 100 and you have 10 of them throughout the quarter, 500 points in total
Great class and awesome films. I double counted this class for GE and U.S. History graduation requirement at CSU. This history class by this prof is the way to go, if you need an online history class. Excellent teacher. Has some extra credit to help.
I took both her online History 17A and her IN Person History 17C classes in the past. Both were really good, but the in person class was the best since we had so much fun in the class and I learn better in person. And this prof explains things in a really clear way, with good films and role plays that made us laugh. & helps you after class also.
Aside from the numerous and obvious fake reviews she writes, her lectures aren't the worst. However, this lets you see the kind of person she is who is attempting to inflate her ego in every way possible. Lecture heavy, easy exams IMO, tough grader on paper who expects you to write at dissertation-level. Easy TBH, but I will never take her again.
Really good class in person and great films. She's a very nice professor and cares about her students. She spent a lot of time helping me in office hours, so I was able to make a high grade. And she has extra credit to help.
Great teacher. This was a fun class, and she has pictures for all of her lectures. and good films like on the American Revolution and Native Americans who built amazing pyramids as big as those in Egypt that is amazing. Also one of the best organized, so you know what is coming and can plan your week easily. Thank you!
She gives the wordiest instructions, so get ready to READ. She sends out so many unorganized emails. Her hw is not impossible to do but you will take all night to do it. Even just to read it takes forever. Doesn't really teach, she just gives you a lot of readings and videos to do. It's a no for me.
1476 words. That's how long the overwhelming INSTRUCTIONS are for the weekly discussion post. Aint nobody reading all of that. Just busywork with no learning. That's all I gotta say.
Great class. I prefer in person classes and this was a fun professor. She explains things really clear. And she helped me raise my grade with help during office hours. Loved the films on World War 2 and the 1960s. Also, we had fun discussions and I like how this class made things relevant to today. Highly recommend this prof for U.S. history.
She's a very good teacher. Has good jokes. Made history class entertaining. And learned a lot. Plus, the class has some extra credit. Thank you!
It's an excellent class, really enjoyed the films. she gives you good feedback during office hours, and there were interesting discussions in the class, connecting up to important issues today.
This class was not the most challenging, but it is not an easy A. You need to put in significant work to get an A. The instructions and barrage of emails are extremely wordy and sometimes confusing. Overall, not the worst professor, but not the best.
Recommend this prof for a good class HIST 17C with interesting films. Also, She gives extra credit that can raise up your grade. Had good time during the discussions in class in person. We had some great role plays. Will take another class with her next quarter.
*sarcasm* If you like to read crazy instructions for discussions, long and unorganized emails, multiple films that are 1 hr long to answer ONE simple question... Then take her :) If you don't want to enjoy learning, this is the class for you. Take her if you want to be challenged mentally and love working extra hard for good grades.
GREAT CLASS! This is my 2nd Online class with this prof. The class is one of the best organized in Canvas, very clear, and discussions are graded a lot just on participation, pretty easy to do. The class is very reasonable and flexible, so you can get it done on your own time. Films were awesome, you can speed them up. Highly Recommend. Made an A.
This professor helped me a lot, so I would like to say that her online class was what I needed with my schedule at a job, and she is really nice and very accessible by email and by phone. It's a straightforward, fairly easy class with interesting films, clear instructions, really helpful feedback she gives, and extra credit raised me a full grade.
Recommend this prof, great teacher, and she gives lots of hints for tests at helpful review sessions. I am a returning student, I loved how she uses pictures for all lectures, great films, & brings in current events for history's impact. & you can ask questions in the in-person class and getting to meet other students and meet with prof in person.
Avoid her classes. There's so much to read, and her prompts are unclear most of the time. This class is even more stressful than my other classes.
Really good class I took in person fairly easy GE in my opinion. She increases up your scores plus has extra credit. We had good discussions in class, she is pretty funny, and it was good meeting people. made a high grade. Films were cool on Native Americans, also American Revolution. Also took her online class - clear & organized in Canvas.
Class was excellent and glad i took in person, prof is really nice, and she helps you a lot with extra points. I loved films on civil rights movements of 1960s and on issues overseas connecting to events today. Makes the history interesting and relevant to what we're dealing with. She speaks really clearly, good for me as international student.
This professor is very helpful teacher. Knows the history very well and makes it entertaining with pictures for every lecture, and good music! Films were awesome. Multiple choice is pretty easy, especially if you go to reviews she has in class where she gives a lot of hints for the tests. Recommending her on campus Hist 17C class. Beautiful DeAnza.
History 17A in person was a fun class. Prof has extra credit, raised me up to higher grade. And she stays after class, so it's easier to get help. Liked great movies on exploring New World and on the American Revolution with different people's protests for rights, plus we had interesting discussions on how it's still affecting people today.
This professor was awful!!! Her lectures might be somewhat interesting but she goes so fast. A student asked to go slower but she refused. She also will only grade 3 test, including midterm, and final. Do not take this class unless you want to be miserable. Her rules for her class are unreasonable, and unfair.
Do not take her class. This was probably the worse professor I have so far. She always goes over time and her lectures are very fast an unclear. You can only do hand written notes you can't use any computer to type notes . She also never post your grade until the quarter is over so you don't know what current grade you have.
She's a very nice professor and really knows the history and makes it interesting with photos and films. One of the best classes I took. Lectures for me were very clear, she explains things in a good way. She gives a lot of hints for tests. Easy multiple choice imo. And gives grades out on time and curved up the scores to help. Highly recommend.
This Online class History 17A was really well organized, and I liked the awesome films & you can speed them up. Professor was easy to reach by email and phone and helped with good feedback. There is extra credit and she gives you a free points discussion and you can miss another one for any reason. This class was good to have a flexible schedule.
Recommend her in-person class HIST 17C. She has great films and music every week and lectures were good. Speaks very clearly. and in class she gives out tips for the tests to help, and raised up all scores. Also, it was good to meet other students in person when we had class discussions and those were fun. One of the best teachers.
Please don't take her if you are not interested in History. She required to read a lot and watch long-time boring documentary. Besides, discussion every weeks required a lot of work with many different weird requirements to complete. Also her handout has many errors, which make us hard to understand the content.
Professor Cini tries her best at providing long emails about her assignments to her students. While she does give extra credit, it's not enough to save you from the exams that are about 90% of your grade and will be graded at the end of the quarter. You will not be able to see your grades until the end of the quarter so good luck getting feedback.
I thought this was a great online class, professor was very helpful. She returned emails and phone calls pretty quick, helped me a lot with my essay and so I made a an A. Discussions were pretty easy, Extra Credit raised me a full grade. Canvas layout was well organized. Double counted this class for GE and the CSU history graduation requirement.
Recommend this online HIST 17C with this good prof. Interesting films especially on 1960s and WW2 and you can make them go faster to save time. Only 1 Discussion per week & you can get 2 free ones for free points. She cares about her students and gave lots of extensions for everyone and she gives you helpful feedback. Took her HIST 17A also.
There are 10 discussions, which combined are worth 20% of your grade. Midterm and final essays make up the other 80%. A single discussion is worth 5% of your grade and for every discussion she makes you watch at least one 40min documentary to answer a single question. One discussion needed us to watch 5 films to answer a single question. Bad class.
Really good in person class, this professor was very entertaining with great jokes. Also she does give you extra free points on the tests. For the multiple choice, she gives a lot of hints in the review sessions in class, so if you go to class on those days, you are good to go. I liked how she made the history relevant to important issues today.
This online class was organized great. Plus awesome films. There's only 8 Discussions for the whole quarter because she gives you 2 free discussions. There are some questions to answer, but it's pretty easy and interesting, and she grades most of discussions on participation, so it's easy to get full points. Midterm & final also pretty easy, imo.
This was a flexible online class so i could choose the time that it was fitting my schedule each week. And the professor is very nice and fun. also she was very accessible by email and she helps you a lot during office hours by phone. I thought the films were a good way to learn and makes it easier. Also you can speed up the films to save time.
Recommended. Prof is very clear and this online class was interesting. Only 8 discussions out of 10, because she lets you miss 2 and still get points. And there's only 2 tests. Very reasonable and it was the only way I could go to college since I have a job, so this class was great. Made an A.
The discussion are not graded until semester is over, you won't know if you are passing the class or not since no grade in posted. She put limit on how many pages the essay needs to be but she will take away points because there wasn't enough explanation. The instruction for the essay are very confusing and very long about 5000 words.
Great class. I prefer in person classes because I am international student and this professor speaks in a very clear way. Also she gave extra points to help. And her class was fun with good lectures and good pictures. She helps a lot with clear comments and there are chances for extra credit. And she is a nice person also.
Professor was really helpful for this online History 17C. It's organized really well in Canvas with interesting films, good learning experience. Prof gives helpful feedback pretty quickly, has office hours by phone. there's 2 free discussions, exam questions are given ahead of time. She gave us a good curve that raised me up to an A.
I thought this was an excellent online class. One of the best teachers and very accessible. She does give you free points for 2 discussions and gives a lot of extensions to help everybody do well. Only 2 exams. Films were awesome and you can speed them up to save time. I took her in person class also and she's great teacher.
lack of organization, obscure grader, overbearing class instructions for assignments that she randomly graded for completion. she hasn't posted grades for summer yet so any review for summer 23 is def a bot. she extended deadlines to cover her lateness which was so annoying if u already did the hw/like to plan. do urself a favor and don't take it.
She's a very nice professor. She gave a curve of extra points to help everyone. Also she gave plenty of feedback to help and also helped me a lot in office hours. She had a bad flu, so she gave us an extension until she recovered. That helped me, so I had time to catch up due to my job and make a high grade in the class. Recommend this class.
she isn't good but isn't bad if you're looking for an easy a and you're not a history major, i would suggest not taking this. if you just put effort into your notetaking for the lectures and actually read the assigned readings, you will get an a. lectures were overtime and the docu. films were unnecessary... it set us back with our course schedule
This online class worked great with my schedule. Only 1 assignment to do each week, and you can just go into Canvas on 1 day of your choice. Class was organized well & the professor gives you 2 free discussions you can miss, there's only 2 exams and she helped me a lot in office hours. Also it was an interesting class.
One of the best classes I have taken. The films were great and the prof made the lectures and discussions entertaining so going to class was good and she gave us time to meet people in class. Plus I liked how she brought in today's issues to make the history relevant. Multiple choice I thought it was easy cause she covers everything in class.
Excellent online class. Very helpful prof in office hours and very organized so you can find everything in Canvas quick and easy. Films were good and you can speed them up to save time. & Prof curved up the scores to help everyone. I also double counted this class for GE and for the CSU graduation requirement in U.S. history.
A great professor who obviously cares for her students. Class is easy to keep up with as long as you take notes! Professor Cini provides a comprehensive study guide so as long as you know all the terms on it, you can pass the tests with flying colors!
Nice teacher for this class on campus. I prefer going to a real class and enjoyed this one, prof made it fun and interesting, with great discussions and films. If you go to the review sessions she has in class, then the tests are easy since she goes over everything in class. Plus has extra credit.
As an 4.0 student, she was the worst teacher in my two years at De Anza. Very long, unnecessarily complicated assignment instructions, marks points for unnecessary things (like page number accuracy even if we were allowed to use different textbook versions) and worst if all, characters limits even when her instructions ask 10+ questions.
This was a good online class. Professor gives all questions ahead of time, so you can plan your schedule and it's really convenient if you have a job. Thank you! Plus she is very accessible by email, and also by phone during office hours, very helpful and caring. Films were awesome & you can make them go faster so it saves time.
Planned on taking this class as an easy transfer to a uni, but dropped it by the second week. Not only was it a headache to ensure you met the dozens of requirements for posts, but it's also a major time waster (multiple films for 1-2 questions). The time commitment for this class went beyond what I had to do for Physics, which is saying something.
Enjoyed this online class. Films were excellent, and it's easy to speed up the films to go faster. Prof curves up the grades for the scores to help. Also the prof was helpful in office hours and sends helpful replies by email. Discussions and tests are open book in this online class, with a flexible schedule, so I thought it was very convenient.
One of the best professors. She had really clear instructions for this online HIST 17C class. I thought it was easy to follow in Canvas since it's organized in a good way. She has some extra credit and free discussion points if you need to miss one or two. And good films, & all questions are given ahead of time. Prof has good sense of humor, imo.
She's a good prof and very clear speaker. I liked going to class because she makes it interesting, and has good jokes and films. She helps you a lot with review sessions in class so you know what will be on the tests, and there's extra credit. I also liked how we had good discussions about the ways the history still has impacts today.
Recommend this in-person class with great films. I learn better in person & this professor has good lectures & she has pictures for all lectures, & it was good that we got to meet people in class in the fun discussions. She is nice & helped me a lot in office hours. She gives a curve up with extra points to help the whole class.
Took this based off the 5/5 reviews, most of them leave out key factors. Do not take this class in person if you only want to be graded based on 3 exams and no more. There are no buffer points. Exams are 50 questions with an essay always. Terms and reading are a LOT. Can not miss one day risking to fall behind. Cini is very outgoing and nice!
Great teacher. Took her on campus HIST 17A class. One of the best. Really explains clearly and it's a fun class. Multiple choice is kind of easy if you go to review sessions she has in class because she gives lots of hints of what will be on the tests. Films were great on American Revolution & on Native American Indians, really interesting movies!
Recommend her in-person HIST 17A. Fun and nice professor. Has 3 chances for extra credit, which raised me higher to an A grade, plus she curves up the scores to help everyone. I liked the movies also. She's really helpful at office hours. I do better in person, and this was a great class.
Great class and nice teacher. I learned a lot in her in-person class, she has good jokes and role plays and discussions and films. I thought she gave really helpful feedback. Reading is reasonable and fairly short, and she covers everything in class. She also gave FREE points to the class plus EXTRA credit to help.
Recommend this in person History 17A class. It was a fun class.
2 exams (50 MC questions & 1 short answer), 1 final (50 MC questions & 1 in class essay) and 1 EC question at the end of each exam. EC if you participate in class. Sends out emails for hw and exams covering everything. Study guide/review day for exams. Very nice and caring, makes class fun. Doesn't use Canvas so check grades according to syllabus.
Too be honest, the instruction for assignments are too complicated... She gives five questions per week with an instruction like this "Cook the shrimp using a oil from Week 1 on the syllabus, you cannot use stainless steel pan, breifly explain about it, the dish should be different from dish #2, tell me how many minutes you fried, ..." SERIOUSLY?
Would recommend her History 17A Online, it is flexible for your schedule and is very clear. Films were really interesting and you can speed them up to save time. She does give helpful feedback imo, and is a nice prof. Also I took a class with her in person where she has a good sense of humor in class and so I enjoyed going to class. : ) Thank you.
Really good films in this online class HIST 17C. And this professor has Extra Credit and has clear modules in Canvas, plus she is helpful in office hours. I also liked how current events were included with connections to history and making it more interesting, especially on the 1960s and WW2.
Do you really read your instructions before you give them to students? Even a code of laws won't complicated as your instructions.
Good online class! Nice teacher, provides questions ahead of time, that helps a lot, since i have a job so then I can plan for the week. She's very clear with explaining. Also she gave free points for a discussion in case you need to miss a week. I thought she replies by email in a helpful way, you can call her during office hours, very friendly.
Fun professor and her in person class is one of the best. I learn better in person and this professor has good jokes and is a really clear speaker with great films, she makes the learning more interesting. This prof has extra credit and she give a curve up to help everyone have higher grade. She stays after class to help you if you have questions.
Literally the toughest professor at De Anza. She's very friendly but that all. Attendence mandatory, intense class. Don't take it if you want an easy A. Believe me.
Very good professor. I enjoyed her class. Just take good notes in class to get a high grade. I got an A easily. Plus she gives a lot of hints in review sessions. Also very fun and makes the class enjoyable with pictures for all lectures and great films. We had fun discussions and debates that made the history relevant to today, especially on1960s.
One of the best history professors for great on campus class. She speaks very clear and for me as international student this really helps. Also very nice and helpful in office hours and she gave extra credit and 50 extra points to help you raise your score up. We saw some great movies on American Revolution and Native Americans. Recommend.
Really good online class. I thought it was very organized with wonderful films. All the assignments are provided ahead of time. And she has extra credit. There is also a free points discussion to help. And you can miss another discussion of your choice and still get points, if you need to be away that week.
I recommend this in person HIST 17A class. Prof is very helpful, has great lectures, very entertaining. We had good discussions in class. Tests are pretty easy imo if u go to review sessions in class where she has a preview of the test. Also has extra credit. I double counted this class for GE & the CSU/UC graduation requirement in U.S. history.
Very good teacher. She's a very clear speaker which helps me, and she explains things really clear. Exams are very straightforward with lots of hints before it, so you can do well. i thought she gives helpful feedback in office hours, and plus is very friendly. We saw some great films on World War 2 and i specially liked the films on the 1960s.
easy (10 discs, 2 papers), but directions are confusing and coursework is tedious. discs consist of 4-5 unnecessarily long questions that require 1-2 hr films and 2 textbooks. makes u buy textbooks or takes points off because she wants citations to match her page #s. only take if u need to, otherwise take another ge course bc she's not a good prof
Very harsh grader. Vauge instruction.
LOTS of reading and videos- 2+hrs videos weekly. Weekly discussions needed, the questions were messy and only 1 sentence per, but SO much info was wanted for answers. Papers instructions were VERY convoluted. Everything required to be in paper didn't really seem to go together well. Hard to write with restrictive requirements
DON'T. Rarely responded to emails, a lot of discussions and reading.
Worst Professor Ever! DONT TAKE HER!! Save yourself from long discussions that are only worth 5% of your grade. Takes forever to grade. Practically grades everything after the quarter is finished.
This was a great online class. Thought it was very interesting, and very organized with cool films. Prof is very helpful and gave a lot of feedback in written comments throughout the quarter to help me improve, so i could raise my score to an A. She also gave free points for one Discussion and also 2 chances for Extra Credit. Recommend.
Recommend her in person class. She's one of my favorite professors. And she's really helpful in office hours. Films were good. Tests were fairly easy if you go to class and also go to the review sessions she has in class cause she gives hints on the questions for the tests. Also I liked how she made the history relevant to today's issues.
Very good teacher and fun. We had some great discussions and she always had pictures for every lecture and made it enjoyable to go to class. We got to meet people in person and i really prefer that! Great films also on WW2 and 1960s, etc . Plus she gives questions ahead of time which makes it easier, and she has several chances for extra credit.
Enjoyed her class. Very nice professor. She always replied to my emails. And she gives you 1 free Discussion so you can miss if you have busy week. I thought her class was very interesting, specially films on the American Revolution. Helped me with U.S. history as international student. Has Extra Credit which helped me make an A in the class.
Am recommending this great online class, it's easy to follow in Canvas cause really well organized & I thought assignments were very clear. Also wonderful films, and you can speed them up to save time if u need to. Loved 1960s films. Prof gives questions ahead of time, so makes class easier, and she gives helpful feedback. Nice & fun person also.
One of the best profs for an online class. She's friendly & has office hours by phone to help. Really interesting history, I like how she ties it to current events. And Films were great. Only 1 assignment per week, & it's convenient due to my job. & pretty easy imo. Can double count this class for GE and the CSU American history requirement.
Get ready. There is an eight-page, single-spaced syllabus, with a weekly discussion consisting of five questions, each containing at least three questions. Lots of videos and articles. You can see every word but it's not clear what she is trying to ask. Mark the answer source per minute per page.
I have never met such a fickle person! Each time she has to extract very few useful key points from her lengthy information, which is extremely inconsistent with the current rating. A lot of videos and readings every week, and the paper requirements are extremely demanding. Avoid her! ! ! !
Great teacher and fun! I thought this prof provided helpful feedback and was very nice in office hours & had a great sense of humor. She had a hand injury but did her best to type comments to help me improve. I thought her syllabus was very clear and well written and easy to read. Also, loved the films! Convenient online class since I have a job.
One of the best online classes. Very good professor, and friendly. I enjoyed the films, especially on 1960s, really good movies, and great for understanding issues today. The class is very well organized in Canvas and easy to follow, imo. She gives you 2 free Discussions and Extra Credit options, which raised me a full grade to an A. Thank you!
Enjoyed this online class. Films were awesome and you can speed them up to save time. Everything was very clear. And the prof gave really helpful comments in Canvas and office hours that helped me make higher score. Also, I thought she was easy to reach by email and phone and returns your calls pretty quickly. Has extra credit. Highly recommend.
This prof is one of the best teachers I have taken in person. Lectures are very entertaining with photos & pictures for every lecture & great music, and makes class fun. She has a curve up to help on tests, to help everyone do well. And she has helpful reminders and tips. We had great discussions in class, very relevant to current issues today.
Probably one of the worst online asyn courses I've taken. Professor has no clue how to teach an online course well. The formatting was horrible, literally every assignment's instructions were ridiiculous and annoying to follow along. The instructions themselves spanned like a page. I wouldn't have taken this professor if I had a different option.
Wish I'd taken this in person! The films were captivating, discussions enriching. Prof was direct, which helped. Notes for midterms were a bonus, showed she cared. If you're not interested in reading, you're not going to enjoy her class. Tips: read everything and do well on your essay! Tough to improve ur grade if u fail the first essay.
The instructions for her assignments are very long and demanding. You would have to read every detail because she is a tough grader and expects you to include specific details. We have one discussion per week with about 1 long film to watch and reading assignments. Not an easy A, you need to put in the work and time.
I regret taking this course with this professor, the instructions and e-mails are horribly long and take a long time to read. This professor is an extremely tough grader and seems very picky with formatting, examples and information they want included in the essays but the instructions and e-mail updates are extremely difficult to follow.
Very nice professor and makes this online class really interesting, especially the films on the 1960s. She gave a curve Up to help, with free points, which raised me to an A. She gave us several extensions on the assignments, which helped me a lot since I have a job. I thought she gave really helpful feedback. I learned a lot and highly recommend.
Terrible, do not recommend
I want to cry when I do the assignments for this class
Reviews indicate that this class would be simple and informative, I found myself hating the topics that I have studied before and hating every discussion post. Way too much work for the wait between grading. Provides way too much material that often boils down to look for the word and phrase.
Do NOT take this class ever. Her assignments are way too difficult with long, SPECIFIC instructions, and the essays assigned are WAY too excessive. I did not learn anything in this class, and this class overall was WAY TOO time consuming. Leave now and go find a different professor.
I recommend this on campus class. Professor speaks very clear so I can follow and also she was helpful after class. It was good for me as an international student. Also I liked good pictures in lectures. And I thoughts tests pretty easy, just make sure go to her review sessions in class for lots of hints on tests.
Recommend this online class. I thought it was easy to find everything and the material was interesting. Mostly liked the info on the Native Americans and the American Revolution, and liked how it was connected to issues today. Prof gives 2 free Discussions and Extra Credit.
Thank you for a good class.
One of my favorite in person classes. Made the class fun. And I was able to double count this for CSU graduation requirement and for GE. Also, professor was nice and stayed after class to help with questions.
As a student with a job, this was a very convenient online class imo. Only 1 assignment per week. And there were some free points, and helpful feedback in office hours. The prof did have some extra credit, which raised me to an A.
Great prof. Gives questions ahead of time, so you can prepare ahead and makes it easier, and I was able to get help from her after class. I liked the discussions we had in class, connecting to issues like civil rights in the present. You don't have to participate in class, you can just listen, but prof gives extra credit if you participate.
Wonderful teacher for this in person class. Great pictures in lecture.
One of the best profs. Very clear on explaining everything. Multiple choice was fairly easy if you attend her reviews in class and she goes over everything in class. And she makes the class fun to go to, and has some extra credit. This afternoon class also matched with my work schedule, so that was helpful.
Yes, I would recommend it as one of the best online classes. It was easy to follow in Canvas.
good professor. i thought it was helpful the way the class was organized. and we had some great debates and discussions in class. the teacher also would stay after class to give advice on assignments to help out, so that was nice.
Enjoyed going to this in person class. Professor made it fun and it was good to talk to other students. And professsor has pictures and photos for all the lectures, makes it interesting imo. There were some free points that helped increase my score to an A.
It was a well organized online class & the teacher had helpful tips when I went to her office hours. She will call you back also. There's 2 free discussions & extra credit. Recommended.
Beware! A lot of reading and writing, takes forever to grade assignments, grades extremely harshly, very picky about how she wants work turned in. Emails to the class are long and pointless. Always late to class. Reviews are not consistent with how class really was. Do yourself a favor and avoid this professor at all costs. She is terrible.
I liked it, I thought it was a great class. Prof has interesting lectures and the discussions were fun in class. Gives good tips if you email her, and also in office hours. Prof gave 50 points FREE to help the entire class have a higher score. This helped me to get an A in the class.
Prof made the class fun with jokes in lectures. Liked how the prof tied the history to today during class discussions with current events. I thought the multiple choice was pretty easy if you go to her review days in class -- ton of hints of what will be on tests. Had a curve up to increase scores. Recommend if you prefer in person class like i do.
I thought it was an inspiring class. I like in person classes, and the prof's lectures explained things really well and used films also and discussions were great and we got to know people in class. The tests were fair and there was a big curve up to help raise your points up. So I made an A. The prof was nice also.
Recommending as a good online class. Clear layout in Canvas and easy to find everything. Films were good. There were some free points and extra credit. Professor had helpful feedback when I went to office hours by phone and also by email was very helpful.
One of the best classes I took for online, it was convenient to go with my job schedule, so I could do the class work on my own time. Prof gives the assignments ahead of time and so I had enough time to finish. There is some discussions you can miss, so that was convenient also.
Prof Carol makes the class fun and engaging. Attending the review sessions is key, and the extra credit opportunities are helpful. For study prep, I found both ChatGPT and unstuckstudy ai to be great resources alongside the textbook. Overall, a manageable yet rewarding course.
Great class. Loved the lectures, the prof made class really interesting, & we had fun in the discussions and debates. There was extra credit, & prof also gave lost of free points to help everyone do well. Prof would help if you had questions after class, & she also provided FREE textbooks to check out or scan from the library for the full quarter.
This is a good teacher. I learned a lot in her Online class. Organized. Good films that you could speed up to save time. I really liked the map thing that you can click on and it pings if you get the right answer, it's just for fun. Other fun things too. Teacher was so helpful in office hours and very kind. Had some extra credit. Made an A easily.
It's one of my favorite good classes online due to nice professor and interesting films like on the American Revolution that was a good action movie, and explained everything really clearly. Sends helpful replies by email. Also spent extra time on phone to help me out. And there was a free book to use in the library. Really cares for her students.
Really liked this online class. Professor was very nice and helpful in office hours. She gives extra credit and gave a lot of extensions on the discussion posts and assignments to give everyone more time to finish so that helped a lot, and the questions were given in advance so that was good also. Good class for a flexible schedule.
Best class I took online this year, organized very well, and could find everything really easy in Canvas. Films were great and made the history interesting. A very caring teacher who helped me a lot, and also has a great sense of humor. There's 2 free discussions to help with free points to raise your grade up higher.
Good class, I prefer in person, & this class was what I needed. She speaks really clear, explains everything well. Has pictures & photos for every lecture & I loved the movies. She gives lots of hints at review sessions in class, so multiple choice was pretty easy. Has extra credit. Can double count for GE & CSU graduation requirement in U.S. hist.
Took this online class for fall 24 and may I say total DISASTER. She is VERY DISORGANIZED. She does NOT give clear instructions. Even if you follow all of her confusing steps to complete an assignment, she finds a way to take a couple points off from your grade. She seriously needs to be taught on how to give clear, formatted instructions.
This professor isn't organized for the life of her but expects students to be picture perfect when it comes to assignments. Professor will deduct unnecessary points and point out the smallest flaws in order to deduct points. I think that she should check herself first.Don't take her online course unless you're willing to be criticized over anything
-assignments way too long -movies way too long -instructions way too long (and insanely confusing) get ready to spend about 6-10 hours on just one assignment if you sign up for this class, on top of that, be criticized for every single little thing. ridiculously too demanding for a GE class
She's maternalistic, almost to the point to where, if you're well-acquainted with the college experience, you'll likely feel a little overburdened by her want for you to succeed. Her syllabus is an overwhelming but structured guide to the reading. Between that and attending lecture, the path to get an A is very clear-cut. It just requires work.
She writes way too much in her instructions somehow making some of the assignments more confusing. She wants things done a certain way and if they're not it's an automatic zero. She was behind on grading and forgot to post assignments giving us less time to do them. She wasn't very responsive on emails which is hard especially for an online class.
Too much reading and movies for discussion questions that don't make sense. She is very picky about what you write and will take points off for the littlest things. Overall very time consuming, tedious, and for low reward. I don't recommend this prof
Nice professor, & I thought this was a good & convenient online class, which helped a lot since i have to work at a hospital while i go to college. Prof sent helpful messages & everything was pretty clear in the class. There were some free points. Liked I can count this class for both General Ed and CSU graduation requirement in American history.
She was a harsh grader in the beginning, got an 8.25/10 on the first discussion post but after the first few she started grading based off participation only, I think it's because she took too long to grade or the class's grades started to go down. Discussions are very reading and film heavy, so please manage your time wisely! Essays are easy.
Took this good class a while back. Just would like to say how caring and helpful this professor was. Enjoyed the films also. Online class was very clear and explained well in Canvas and one of the best I took.
Fun in-person class imo. Professor made it interesting with pictures for every lecture and fun discussions and debates. There were 3 extra credit points chances and other free points she gave to help everyone improve their scores. Films were good and I thought they helped to bring the history alive along with the pictures and photos. Recommend.
Really liked this class on campus, in person. Great prof. Enjoyed going to class. We got to meet other students in the class and the discussions and films were so good. Multiple choice was pretty easy if you go to her review sessions in class, really helpful. And there was a free 50 points to help your score for everyone. Got an A.
Great class, in person. I like to go to a real class. Prof is good lecturer, speaks really clear, is good for me as international student. She goes over everything in class to make it all clear. Also she helps you a lot. Has some free points and extra credit. I loved films on 1960s.
One of the best online classes for history. Prof was really organized and set things up well in Canvas, easy to find and do. Prof gave helpful feedback in office hours and has a good sense of humor. : ) I found out can use this class for G.E. as well as CSU graduation requirement U.S. history. Extra credit was available, assignments really clear.
I prefer in-person and this Hist 17A class was Good! Very helpful professor who explained things clearly and all of the lectures had pictures and photos, so that made it more interesting. And we saw some excellent films. Professor stayed after class to answer questions and is very nice. Gives you the questions ahead of time, so makes it easier.
I DO NOTt recommend taking this professor, she DOESN'T do anything AT ALL, she doesn't check assignments and gives grades for nothing. She gave me a 7.5/10 for an assignment I didn't even do, I think she doesn't even look at them. There were two exams that worth 400 out of 500 and even if you do all discussions it won't help you get a good grade.
Good teacher. I thought this online class was organized well and the prof gave a lot of helpful feedback. And she really cares and tries to help you. The films were great, especially WW2 and the 1960s, and you can speed them up to save time. There was a curve UP to help, and it improved my score to a lot higher.
Liked this in person class for history. Made class fun with interesting lectures & good discussions. There were a lot of free points to help raise everyone's grade, plus extra credit. In her review sessions in class, she said many hints for the multiple choice to help us do well. Also, FREE books at library reserves to check out for entire quarter.
Recommend this online class for modern U.S. history. Professor was very nice in office hours and gave helpful comments that helped me improve to make an A. Had some awesome films in Canvas imo. There were 2 free discussions and extra credit. This class was convenient for my work schedule, and she gave several extensions to the class which was nice.
Very strict. Treats us like children, no phones or electronics, hand written notes only. Lots of reading, heavy lectures and exams. Exams are usually 50 multiple choice questions on a scantron and an essay portion based on readings and lectures. Only extra credit offered is participating in the in class lectures. Firm on rules, don't recommend.
Loved this class from a while back. Very good teacher and made the class awesome. She used film clips to entertain us and made the history come alive! Enjoyable also since she has good jokes, and we had some great debates in class. Tests were easy if you attend her review sessions in class, and plus she covers all you need in class really clear.
I thought this class was fun. Professor is a good speaker and has pictures for every lecture and did some great role plays for our discussions. Also she announces the exam questions ahead, so you can prepare ahead & score high, & there were 50 FREE points to raise everyone's grade. Plus 3 chances for Extra Credit, it led to an A for me. Thank you.
One of the best classes I took at De Anza. Prof was really helpful and nice. And showed great films, like on Native Americans and exploration and on the American Revolution. Has extra credit on exams and for class participation and free points. Books were free to check out for the whole quarter at library, and prof explained all material in class.
The worst history professor ever. Her instructions for discussion and exam papers are VERY UNCLEAR. She takes of points for every single detail. Took 7 weeks to grade one discussion post. Not accessible at all. It feels like she wants us to fail the class.
Disorganized and messy course. Lots of work and confusing grader.
Horrible Professor. Super disorganized and her grading is horrible. She treats her students like kids.
Super interesting films, and I thought this was one of the BEST online classes I have taken and very well organized in Canvas. Professor gave really helpful feedback. She is very available for office hours and sends helpful emails. Her class was easy to pass and do well in. She gave a lot of free points & Extra Credit. Very nice prof. I made an A.
Good professor for this online course. Very friendly and helpful. Instructions were really clear and easy to follow in Canvas. Has Extra Credit which raised me higher a full grade up more. Was willing to call me back when I needed help, so a very caring and helpful teacher, and fun as well, would recommend as one of the best teachers at De Anza.
A really good class imo, took online. Very convenient for my work schedule, only 1 assignment per week, & gave questions ahead of time so u can plan. Interesting pictures and films. Gave very clear feedback. Canvas easy to find things, imo. FREE books at library to check out for quarter. She also gave the class free points to help everyone do well.
I really liked the professor and this online class. It was very manageable and easy to find stuff. Gives 2 free Discussions and has 2 options for Extra Credit. Loved the films on the American Revolution and the explorers and Native America. Plus very nice and very helpful in office hours. Highly recommend.
Excellent in-person class, I really enjoyed it. I thought the professor made it entertaining as well as interesting. There is a film clip every week to bring the history alive. And films on civil rights history were awesome. Multiple choice is easy, just take good notes at her review sessions. She gives a lot of hints for the tests. Very clear.
Fun class from a while back. Professor is a good speaker and we had some great discussions. I could double count this class for GE and the U.S. history graduation requirement at CSU. She has free books at the library. I recommend this class and this prof. Very nice and will help you a lot at office hours. The class is fairly easy imo.
This professor made this in person class a pleasure to go to. The discussions were amazing and fun, and she used photos for every lecture so it was always interesting. Also the class was nicely spiced up with films. I liked getting to know people in the class. Nice prof and gave a good curve UP which raised me up to the next higher grade. Thankyou
Definitely recommend for in person History 17A. Very enjoyable course. She's a great prof, explains things clearly, speaks clear, is organized imo, has some good jokes : ) Also gave 50 free points to help us all do well. Goes over everything in class and gives questions ahead of time so tests are easier. And gives some extra credit options.
Great professor. I thought it was a Fun in person class, and she gives good feedback and will talk with you after class and during office hours to help with any questions. And she explains things really clear. She sends helpful emails and goes over what you need to know to do well. Liked the films, especially on WW2 and 1960s.
Would like to say this was an awesome in person class. Prof makes it interesting with visuals and films, and there were a lot of free points and some extra credit options. She gives a lot of hints for the tests during her review sessions in class , so it's easier to study. Discussions were great. Nice prof. Thank you.
Firm on rules, stay away from her.
Worst professor at De Anza. Grades very strictly. Takes forever to grade. Very serious on how we cite our sources for essay's thinking we need it in the real world. To many instructions given to students. Treats us like history is a necessity in life. Makes us want to fail. She conducts points off for the littlest things during discussion
She's a really good teacher and is one of the best classes I have taken in person. Showed good films. I liked the discussions where we did some fun role plays and debates. And I liked that we got to know people in class. She gave a lot of free points on assignments to help the class do well and gave a curve Up that led to an A for me.
She is so strict with grading. I mistyped a page number for a source and she docked two points. And she grades assignments weeks after they've been due so if you ARE doing something wrong you have no way of knowing. Only upside was the extensions she offered. Other than that I did not enjoy learning. All these five star reviews have to be bots.
I liked this Online class. It was organized well in Canvas, videos were good to learn from, can speed them up. She's nice and gives 2 free Discussions with free points and also 2 extra credit options. Plus she grades a lot of the Discussions just on participation, gives plenty time to do exams open book, so it is easy to pass and get a good grade.
Enjoyed this in person class, FUN. We had some really interesting discussions and it was good how prof showed impact of history today. Films were amazing, including on civil rights and WW2 and the Cold War and women's issues. She gave a curve higher up to increase everyone's scores up higher to help. Very responsive and helpful.
Idk how this professor got good reviews.LONG&CONFUSING instructions, long videos and readings, then expects you to summarize everything in just one or two sentences. She never responds to emails, takes forever to grade, and is a tough grader, taking points for the smallest mistakes. AVOID HER!!!! she'll hurt your GPA, and you won't even learn much!
Writing this for those signing up for spring classes. The most nitpicking teacher I have seen. Marks off points for anything. Will move due dates to cater to the majority. Goes from nice teacher to marking off a point for every minute the assignment is late. Doesn't request newer textbooks from the library despite requiring it. Ebooks wouldn't work
Very organized online class in Canvas and this made it easier since you can find everything so quickly and it's clear. She replies with helpful emails pretty quickly and wrote comments to help on assignments. I thought this class was pretty easy if you just follow the instructions in Canvas. She's also really nice and fun in office hours, & helps.
Nice teacher and one of the best for online. There are 2 free discussions and some extra credit chances. Questions for discussion posts & exams were given ahead of time so you can work at your own pace. This went well with my job schedule. Films were good, & it was great to have the free books from library, & there is good E-book option. Good prof.
Good teacher, a great learning experience, imo. Had pictures for every lecture, included awesome films. I actually enjoyed going to class for the fun discussions and meeting people. Prof is really helpful and will help you after class and in office hours. She gave a lot of tips ahead of time for tests and had a large curve up to improve all scores.
Discussion post weekly, 2 essay exams for midterm and final. Strict on grading criteria but overall easy class if you do the work. My only issue is the way she writes the guidelines for the discussions as she writes A WHOLE ESSAY (no exaggeration) so it can be annoying having to decipher the guidelines. Need 2 textbooks.
Good films (and you can speed them up to save time), and I thought it was basically an easy online class. Pretty clear and straightforward, imo. Helpful emails, and she will help you a lot in office hours. Has 2 FREE discussions and 2 options for extra credit, i did both, easy. I got both books free at the library to check out for whole quarter.
Enjoyed this in person course and it was very organized. She's very engaging and has sense of humor. I gained a different perspective on history. She's a good teacher and I liked it, and there's extra credit, and she goes over everything in class, so you know what will be on the test.
This prof made history interesting with personal stories and great films like on World War 2 and the 1960s. There was a curve up to help everyone's scores be higher. Multiple choice i thought was easy if you just go to her review sessions in class since she gives lotsa hints. And prof is very nice and helpful in office hours.
Took this class a while ago, and it was really good. Recommend this prof with fun lectures and discussions. There were free books in the library reserves to check out for the full quarter, so that saved me some money. Very nice prof to have that available to help.
Awesome in person class and was a very helpful prof. Speaks really clear and easy to follow. Great visuals in class and i liked meeting other students during class discussions. I thought she gave helpful feedback. Also this prof has a lot of free points to help you do well.
Great class! I like in-person, and this professor's class was fun and she makes the history interesting. We watched really good films on Native Americans and also the American Revolution. Multiple choice was easy imo, and she gives questions ahead of time, and makes it easier. Plus had 50 FREE points and that raised my score to an A.
Writing this for those signing up for spring classes. The most nitpicking teacher I have seen. Marks off points for anything. Moves due dates to cater to the majority. Goes from nice teacher to marking off a point for every minute the assignment is late. Doesn't request newer textbooks from the library despite requiring it. Ebooks wouldn't work
This was a really good class on campus. Prof is great lecturer, fun, entertaining. Also has review sessions in class, so u know what will be on exams. And has a generous curve up higher that raised everyone's grades up. There were free books in library to check out for the whole quarter for free. Sweet person.
Im so frustrated with this class that Im writing this review for new students. PLEASE DON'T take it! I had a 4.0GPA before this class but no matter how hard I tried in discs and the midterm, it was never enough. Even when I followed her instructions, she'd always find something to deduct points for. It's unfair, exhausting and not worth the stress.
What's most frustrating is that after maintaining a 4.0 GPA through years of hard work, this one class ruined everything (&i put in the work). If you care about your grades and a fair learning experience, do yourself a favor and take this course with someone else. I regret ever enrolling in this class, and I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.
Probably one of the hardest professors I ever had. This is supposed to be a GE class and it's harder then my physics 4C and math 2A class. You have to be very careful with her instructions otherwise you will get points off. She's really wants you to do what she says, I don't be mean or anything but for me this class was just harder than anything.
One of the most unprepared professors ever. Lacks time management and went over time every class. Wastes time before exams to go over rules that are common sense. Exams also timed. Very lecture and reading heavy. Grade is determined only by tests. Attendance matters so if you miss one class, you fall behind. Stay clear. Definitely ruined my GPA :(
grade depends on how much work u put in tbh. long films to watch. multiple pages of reading/multiple documents to go over, however it makes discussions easier to complete. tough grader; sometimes lenient by grading on completeness. don't procrastinate. i'd take this class again if i wasn't such a procrastinator. layout of course is easy to follow.
confusing, devastating, lacks compassion, overwhelming, informative, intricate, educational, complicated, challenging, unforgiving, ruthless, and difficult!
Discussions every week w/ 3-5 questions each. A min. of 4 parts to each question. I needed to set aside at least 3 hrs+ to complete these b/c her directions are extremely detailed. If you don't answer how she wants you to she WILL deduct points. Got a low grade on 1st mid and went from an A to an F real quick. No possible way to make it up.
Prof. Cini's lectures are engaging and are structured in a manner that is easy to understand. She's evidently knowledgable and passionate about the subject. Almost all of your grade is dependent on the exams, one of which is the final. However, she always goes through extensive review which is very helpful. I'd definitely take her class again.
DO NOT take this course. My biggest complaints are that she didn't grade the midterm until a week before the final, the weekly homework assignments are ridiculously long, complex, and tedious, she doesn't respond to emails, and does not give extensions for ANY reason. This is literally the worst class I've ever taken in college. Save yourself.
Everything from emails, discussion assignments, instructions, and even the syllabus is complicated and hard to read. She takes forever to grade, if you're iffy that this class isn't for you and waiting to see your grade, just drop it, you won't get a grade until you're in too deep.
Nice professor, tries to engage everyone to understand concepts and themes, helps prep for tests and final. Grades are based off tests/final, no homework, barely any extra credit points, she takes attendance.
I took the class and it was amazing to learn all the history because the professor is good at making sure you get all the information. I wish she was more forgiven for special needs.
Really enjoyed this in person HIST 17A class. I thought the professor made the class really interesting and fun with good lectures and she has pictures for all her lectures. Also, we got to know the other students in class discussions, was a good time. Also, great films. She's really nice, & gave 50 FREE points to help raise scores UP.
Nice teacher, and one of the best classes i have taken in person. She makes history interesting and has a good sense of humor. Also gives questions ahead of time so you can do better. Really wants her students to succeed.
Please stay away from this professor at all costs. She takes weeks to grade our midterm paper, which makes up half of our grade. Weekly discussion posts require you to watch 3-4 hours of movies and read 3-4 documents. The instructions are very hard to read and you will get a headache. Good luck if you are taking her class in the spring.
Excellent professor who is very caring and helpful to students in this online class. Very responsive to student emails. Films were great, imo. Only one discussion per week and one free discussion plus two extra credit chances, so it's easy to do well in this class.
One of the best online classes I took. I like the films and u can speed them up to save time. Info on WW2 and 1960's civil rights was really interesting. Prof gave helpful feedback and you will have the questions ahead of time to score high. Recommend this prof.
Really good class. Great lectures, she's really passionate about the issues, has good jokes, and the discussions were fun. Helpful in office hours.
Highly recommend this in-person History 17A class. The teacher is very nice and made the history come alive, and I loved the films. Tests were pretty easy, she gives you 50 free points. Textbooks are free in the college library to check out for the entire quarter. Thank you.
Got my first B. She has a lot of criteria for the midterm, and final. The questions in the assignments are so long, and unnecessarily confusing. She gives a lot of extra credit, and most of the assignments are graded based on completion, and participation. However, she is a very tough grader. Kept telling me to be more specific, but idek how.
I took Cini's class in the Winter quarter—huge regret. She didn't grade the midterm until the end of the quarter and had to curve it. No clear grading criteria, no feedback on finals, and zero help. First B I've ever gotten. Don't be fooled by the good reviews—she's not supportive in the slightest bit. :/ Do yourself a favor and find another class.
Professor is pretty difficult. She has very high expectations for the work you submit. She seems chill but, her class can get stressful because of how heavy the workload is.
For personal reasons, I can't really rate this professor as a 5... maybe a 4.25... But she does care about you and you passing the class. Gave out free textbooks to check out the whole quarter! It's really important to actually attend the class. She does give out answers for exams in class, but you have to attend at the start to get them.
Do not trust the high ratings that you see, it is completely the opposite of what you will experience in this class. Her guidelines for discussions are so long that they become confusing. Despite limiting how much students write to prevent rambling, her rambling in itself for a single assignment's instructions could write an entire midterm essay.
This professor's assignment and midterm/final essay instructions are extremely long and unnecessary. She uses excessive color, bolding, italics, and underlining--you won't be able to understand which parts are important. It's super confusing and the midterm essay instructions turned out to be 22 pages long. Not worth it.
dont trust the ratings omg. she is super kind and nice to me. BUT, the instructions to her assignments are like 1000 pages long and the directions are like worded so weird and like 10 sentences long when it can be easily simplified in 2 sentences yk... dont take her, harsh grader.
This professor is great! This class does require A LOT of reading and watching multiple videos but it is definitely doable. It will def prepare you for upper division classes. Professor Cini is extremely lenient and caring plus the content she provides is extremely interesting. If you are not willing to put in the work, do NOT take this class.
One of the best online classes I have taken. I thought she made the subject interesting, and I liked the fact that she covered issues from today like civil rights that made the history relevant. I thought the info was well organized and the directions for tests and discussion posts were very clear.
The professor is a really good teacher with interesting photos for every lecture and great film clips. She gave me extra feedback and help in her office hours, and she was really nice, and I got good grades. Plus there was extra credit, and free textbooks from the library.
This in-person class was very good when I took it about a year ago. The prof was pretty funny and I liked her lectures. The prof gave out 50 FREE points to help everyone do well and I did better than I had I thought I would. Made an A.
she feels the need to prove that she has her phd by making instructions as wordy as possible, yet has the laziness of a college student. two sentence maximums for complicated prompts, 3pg maximums for papers so she doesn't have to read (but you can't even answer prompts fully). she doesn't grade work in a timely manner, either
Helpful prof. Always willing to answer questions. She makes sure to find a solution to any of your questions, and she replies quickly. There is only one assignment a week and you can do it on your own time, and that worked great because I have a job. Very nice person and good sense of humor when we talked during office hours. Highly recommend.
The course was easy to follow in Canvas online, and I loved how she explained things very clearly. A wonderful professor and gives good feedback in a convenient way. She gave 10 free points and 2 free discussions, and 2 extra credit options. You get the questions ahead of time, so that makes it easier. Super grateful to have her as my professor.
Great class! I prefer in person, and her class was really good. The lectures are well delivered, and she uses photos and films to make it interesting. Plus she has good jokes. She gave a large curve UP to help everyone do well. Also has extra credit.
The professor is very clear and knowledgeable and makes the history come alive for this in-person class. She knows the history really well and made the lectures entertaining and we had fun discussions. The multiple choice is pretty easy IMO, if you go to her review sessions, since she gives lots of hints for the tests. I made an A.
Liked the class. Liked the prof. Clear instructions and grading was on time. Prof gave free points and gave extra credit. Tests were pretty easy and discussions were good and always offered plenty of after class office hours which made a big difference in my making a good grade. Teacher was funny and nice to to talk to.
Prof is very good and makes every class engaging and easy to follow. She has pictures for all her lectures and I like how she makes the history relevant to today's issues. Good films on Native Americans & the American Revolution. Prof cares about her students & always takes the time to answer questions & provides helpful feedback & extra credit.
Interesting class lectures, and prof. is a very clear speaker, that helps me because I am international student. I like reading about history more than I ever did before. She had good personal stories, very interesting. Professor gave many extra points and was always available after class for questions. Nice professor.
This is a kind teacher and I liked her very much. She inspired me to continue to get a college degree. Great lectures and gave very good feedback and takes time to help all of her students. I have a MUCH better GPA because of the help she gave me! Awesome – I recommend this teacher in anything she is teaching. Thank you.
A real teacher that is there to help her students succeed in this online class. There's 2 free discussions plus extra credit. And she gives you the assignment questions ahead of time so it is easier. I ended up with a higher grade thanks to her advice and help in office hours.
Liked the class and the professor is so nice. Helped me after class and when I emailed her. She gave out free points and the weekly assignment I could do pretty quickly. Take her class!
The professor for this in person class is an amazing instructor who truly cares about her students' success. Her lectures are engaging and well-structured, with great visuals and film clips. We had fun discussions in class, and plus she gave 50 FREE points! She provides clear feedback & is very friendly. I highly recommend her as a professor.
This prof and her convenient online class was exactly what I needed with my busy schedule and full-time job. Her class in Canvas was well organized and easy to follow. Her feedback was really helpful. She also offers extra credit, which raised my grade a full letter. The films were very interesting, and you can speed them up to save time.
I liked this prof - she graded easy and she talkrd about things I never knew and I thought were very interesting - marching with a well known civil rights leader, working for LGBT rghts, and she is amazing in her knowledge of women's rights and what our lives and struggles have been thru out history and present day all over the world. Cool teacher.
professor expects you to do so much reading and watch multiple films in a single week for a single discussion assignment. also a tough grader. if you've got a tight schedule already… would not recommend this professor. she requires a lot of your time. A LOT with very, very specific instructions. no way people are saying this is an easy class.
Professor C. is amazing & fun. Super passionate about history & so easy to talk to. Her lectures are engaging, & she's always available to help students. She gave free extra points, & as long as you listen to her lectures, you'll do well. We had some great class discussions. Highly recommend taking her class — she truly cares about her students.
She's rude and a very tough grader. Expects you to really take researching to another level.
Very harsh grader, as well as rude. Holds impossible standards especially for an online class. Not very understanding her class is very demanding. Take another history class.
Prof. Cini teaches too fast, doesn't adjust for students, and assigns too much reading. Grading is all exam-based, which hurts your grade. She used a discriminatory word in class, was rude about one girl's accent and wastes time. Office hours aren't helpful. Only positives include small extra credit and occasional exam hints.
This teacher is the best. Her class was relaxed,, and she made it so enjoyable. Lectures were clear and easy to follow and she had funny jokes. She gives great feed back on assignments, and she really cares about her students. She gave 50 FREE points. I got the textbook from the library for free, and there were plenty. And I made and A.

Questions for assignments were given in advance, so I could plan and do well. Has extra credit, and 2 free discussions. She gave a large curve up to help everyone do well. I made an A .
I'd say do not take her if you don't like to read. She gives very very very long instructions that are so confusing. I always lose my mind whenever I read her instructions.

Highly recommend this in person History 17A class. The teacher is very nice and made the history come alive. I loved the films on Native Americans, exploration of the new world, & the American Revolution. Tests were pretty easy, she gives you 50 free points. Textbooks are free in the college library to check out for the entire quarter. Thank you!
I took her in-person class for the fall quarter. She's respectful, and there's barely any homework. All you need to do is read two textbooks for the class, study them before exams, and you're all good. If you're into a LOT of notetaking during lectures, her class is for you. She also gave bonus points on the exams, which I appreciate a lot.
Good online class for modern US history. Nice teacher, she gives you 2 free discussions and extra credit, and there was a curve up to help everyone's score increase. I thought the class was easy to follow and well organized in Canvas. And she is very helpful in office hours.

One of my favorite online classes and the professor really cares and is very helpful. The instructions in Canvas were very clear and easy to navigate, and I did really well. The films were really good. Prof gave free points and my score went up. Thank you!
This prof keeps things lively, clear, and fun. She also goes over eveything in class, so you will know what's on the test. She had a curve up, which raised my grade. Free books were in the library to check out for the whole quarter. Nice professor.
I took this great inperson class awhile back and want to say thank you to the professor for a great learning experience. Wonderful lectutes and discussions and films. And a really helpful teacher.
Really liked this professor, she made American history come alive. She uses photos and pictures for every lecture and also has music and films. I especially liked the films on WW2 and the 1960s. Super approachable, very nice person, she helped me a lot during office hours. And she gave 50 free points to help eveyone's score be higher.
Wow this professor makes me lose my mind every time I do her assignments. Her instructions are so confusing and I genuinely lost my mind doing her course. Take her if you are bored and have nothing to do with your time and if u like reading a lot
She is actively monitoring RMP reviews. Be aware. A lot of readings, long/vague instruction, and such a tough grader. Some of the feedback didn't even make sense. Pls avoid.
Do not take professor Carol Cini. Her instructions are horrendous and it is so confusing. I lost my mind doing this course. Too much work snd unfair grading
I like history, so I signed up for this class. Now, I don't want to hear about history anymore. Her assignments are extremely overwhelming and confusing. One student openly relies on AI to help write her work and basically has an A. It kind of shows that effort alone doesn't seem to matter, trying your best on your own may not be enough.
Professor Cini prioritizes busywork over learning. The instructions are excessively long (hundreds and hundreds of words), poorly formatted (heavy bolding/underlining, random highlighting), and difficult to follow. Locating required terms in the textbook/syllabus is frustrating. While the professor is kind, the class's execution is very subpar.
Avoid this Professor, you'll mess up your GPA for nothing. Her assignments are 3 pages long/confusing, but she wants you to answer 2-4 questions in one single sentence. Her midterm and finals were graded as it was English assignments. History itself doesn't matter much, it's basically an English composition class based on a History textbook.
Do not take this class. Weekly assignments are just discussion posts, but take up to 3 hours to complete. She's very picky, and her instructions don't make sense; she expects you to answer 3 questions in one sentence. Her feedback doesn't make sense sometimes, and trying your best won't get you through this class. It's literally just History.
This professor is a chill and caring individual. While it's very obvious that is very passionate about history and takes the subject seriously, this course wasn't overly difficult. As long as you follow instructions and her feedback, you'll be fine :)
Interesting movies and lectures, I learned a lot. Only take this class if you're very passionate about history. The pacing/workload is crazy. Prof is a lot to handle. Can be condescending, a bit rude, and makes things harder than they need to be. I'm only writing this because lots of her reviews do seem fake. Very disappointing if that's true.
Overall very different experience compared to other asynchronous classes. Assignments can LOOK like a lot, however, she has made it to where each assignment is very detailed to how she wants it. Definitely not the easiest class I've taken, but it isn't hard to end the quarter with a passing grade.
This professor treats the class more like an English course rather than a History course because of her extensive feedback and correction on essays and discussions. She oversimplifies the instructions on all of the assignments making it difficult to comprehend and know where to start. I would highly advise you to steer clear of this class.
I don't usually write reviews, but this professor was incredibly frustrating. Assignment prompts are long, poorly written, and unclear, making it difficult to understand what's actually being asked. The professor's emails are also hard to follow and rarely clarify expectations. I spent more time decoding instructions than learning the material.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The assignments take so much of your time and are crazy specific. I was taking this class dual-enrolled, and this required more time and stress than any of my CSU classes (including human anatomy). I don't know why people are giving her okay ratings because this class made me absolutely lose my marbles. I've aged 10 years.
Is not willing to help her students and can be quite condescending. This is not a professor that will help you develop and succeed academically. LOOK FOR OTHER PROFESSORS.
Do not be scammed. Positive reviews read the same, likely bots, completely different experience than the fake reviews list. Prof. was extremely critical grader, high gpa students suffered lowered gpa's because of her History class. Stanford science transfer 4.0 gpa lowered after her class. You've been WARNED!
If you want a free C+, take this class. The professor says discussions should be short and simple, but her instructions and emails are pages long with highlights and repeated points. Instead of being clear, they're confusing. Grading takes forever. I went from an A to a C+ by the final.
Missed 1 page number on my final and instantly failed me no way to bounce back. Has very strict requirements because she doesn't want to grade discussion posts are so boring and requires tons of writing for almost no gain. The final and essay are all that matters if you fail no point of trying.
Discussion is boring and tedious, grades from it doesn't matter if you mess up on the exam, focus everything on the exam.
Only the exam and final matters. Your grades in her class are dependent on page numbers from textbooks. Grades very late. Avoid taking this class.
She took on too many students this quarter and it reflected in the sloppy grading and feedback. Even if you spend the time and resources to secure the correct textbook, she will STILL accuse you of inventing the page number. Heaven forbid you make an interesting argument instead of simply paraphrasing the textbook. Please find another professor.
Graduated this past year and I personally thanked Professor C for helping and encouraging me to succeed. I was a poor writer when I started school but she really helped me to fix that. Her constant criticism to give more detail finally got thru to me and I've become SO much better at analyzing when reading. Thanks again Professor.
