This class is a great class...Dr. Dyas teaches you how to break things down for children and shows you example of how any child might think when learning math...she's a great teacher!
I am horrible at math, but she is a GREAT teacher. She really explains it step by step and always asks if there are any questions. She is really helpful.
She was not at all clear on what she expected of her students. dont take her in the summer - its a lost cause. also, she seems to only know what is on her notes (the same notes she's used for years) she often seems flustered and does not answer questions - just refers you to the book. horrible prof.
Dr. Dyas is a wonderful professor. I dreaded Algebra but she has made it a good class. I have learned alot and would recommend her. You have to keep up with the work. If you do, you can do well in this class. She knows lots of shortcuts and is always willing to help students!
Professor Dyas explains how to teach to children, she makes it easy to understand and I cannot see how anybody cannot do well in her class, just do the assignments, homework, study and you should do well, awesome professor.
She is a very clear teacher, just take the notes. The homework is online and if you get it wrong you get to do it again, so there is no way you shouldnt make a 100 on all the homework. She also does online quizzes. Pop quizzes in class can be done with notes and partners. The tests are easy!
So I hate Math, and I have never understood it. But when I took this class it all became so clear to me. I would recomment her to anyone who feels uncomfortable with this subject... she will make sure you udnerstand! First time I have ever gotten an A in a math class
I have enjoyed Dr. Dyas' class very much. She is very straightforward about everything. Also, she has given us tips on things we might find helpful when we become teachers instead of just standing in the front and lecturing, like most Math teachers do.
Dyas is HEAVEN SENT!!She is the perfect example of CLARITY and proves that you don't have to be a hard A** to teach well. She gives you every opportunity to make an A and at the same time you LEARN and MASTER the subject. Finally a professor that GET'S IT!
I had a major math phobia before I took this class. Professor Dyas was such a great professor, she made it fun to come to class. If you keep up with the homework, and go to class, its an easy class to pass. She never makes you feel dumb for asking a question. Got an A!
She was very good. Pay attention to your notes and you will do fine on the tests.
I thought this calss was simple..she explains her**** very well..Although she expects u to do HW every week which is 20% of ur grade..I got a B in this class even without doning any HW..(well didn't do about more than half of the HW)
Great teacher! Very helpful
EASY, very straightforward and sometimes funny. SHE WANTS YOU TO PASS, she lets her quizzes be open book almost constantly. Homework is easy, if you attend class and know how to work the problems, you'll be fine.
If I had to recommend a math teacher to someone, she would be it. She is very helpful and makes herself available to her students. Her tests aren't hard, just go to class and pay attention. I really enjoyed her because she gives you options on how to solve problems. Like I said, excellent teacher.
She is very clear in her teaching. Must go to class! She will give a suprise quiz here and there. she is great. Easy A if you go to class.
THIS WOMAN IS GREAT, SHE MAKES MATH EASY LIKE IT SHOULD BE. SHE DOESN'T TRY TO TRICK YOU LIKE SOME STUPID ASAIN TEACHERS(C.CHANG) AND GETS STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. DEFINATELY TAKE HER CLASS.
After taking her class I realized just how horrible my High School Algebra teacher was at what she did! Ms. Dyas made this SO easy and explained clearly with a bit of sarcastic humor on the side. She is awesome and I only wish she taught some of this Calculus I am currently knee-deep in...
Took this as a summer class. If you have problems in math I do not recommend her. She would introduce anywhere from 5-7 new topics each day. Vary fast pace. She has unreasonable expectations.
Go to class, read your notes, and you will ace the class. If math is not your thing, then go to her office for help! Many do not and regret it when grades come out. She is an awesome professor!!
Math is my absolute worst subject & I still got a "B" during the Summer 5week session! She is very organized but at the same time very fast paced.I found the test's a little challenging but not unreasonalbe. Don't miss class, take good notes,& ask for extra help if needed. She's always willing to help you out. Subject clarity-good. Great teacher.
Hated the class only becasue of the teacher. Took it during the summer and since she went so fast, My classmates and I reguarly needed extra clarity or questions answered. She would always sigh and make us feel as if she was going out of her way to further explain. I feel I did take alto from the class, but b/c I studied, noth the teacher!!!
I pretty much learned everything I should have learned in high school but didn't in this class. She made algebra much more understandable than it has been in the past for me.
The class was very straightforward. She went over EVERYTHING in detail. The tests were easy, but like on any math test, if you make one mistake, the whole thing is wrong. I would take her again.
I am NOT a math person but I currently have an A in this class. Professor is VERY good at explaining math concepts and gives detailed notes in class. I would HIGHLY recommend her class, especially if you have trouble with math.
Great teacher all around. She is very helpful, clear and repeats steps to make sure you understand. Makes tough problmes seem easy. Of course you have to practice on your own bc this is college. I recommend this teacher.
she is wonderful!!! very easy to understand material and very helpful!! tests are fair and homework is online and you can work on it to get 100%... great class, i loved it!! :)
Dyas is a really excellent professor, and extremely available if you need extra help. She has often made time for me to help me study and understand material. Homework is online and very convenient.
She is a wonderful teacher, she explains everything well. She helps you and is very understanding. You must go to class to learn but you don't need to book. Quizzes every so often but she tells you what is going to be on it, and gives you a practice one. Go to class or she will give a pop quiz with low attendance.
She was a GREAT teacher for the Honors College Algebra class! She was very organized, answered any questions concisively, and had very easy tests. This class was a piece of cake. Definitely take her class.
good teacher
I had her for math for elementary teachers. She gave unclear answers, she humiliated students that had questions
AWESOME prof. Took her for college algebra and this class. Explains with great detail, gives clear notes w/ lots of examples. Homework is not graded, gives little 10pt assignments in class but can work on them with classmates. Tests are easy if you study notes and do homework. Gives partial credit on tests if you show work and mess up.
Awesome teacher. Makes the most complicated algebra understandable by breaking it all down to mangaeable pieces. I definitely recommend taking her
Very good teacher. No curves on tests in the class but she does tell you what to expect and gives you examples, which means it will be on the test.
Very good teacher. No curves on tests in the class but she does tell you what to expect and gives you examples, which means it will be on the test.
She is a really great teacher. She does do a little fast with her notes so you have to write the stuff down quick. She explains the info in detail so you pick it up well. Gives home work on WebCT but as long as you do it it's an easy 100. Test are 75% multiple choice and 25% working the answer out. She gives partial credit on the test. Take her!!
I recommend taking this professor!! She is byfar the best math teacher I have ever had, because she THOROUGHLY explains everything!! If you just do the online homework and come to class because she gives a few pop quizzes you will do fine, it is usually very hard to fail the quizzes unless you don't take it!! Her exams are all multiple choice ex
I think she was the most helpful if you needed the help. Her lectures are so informative. She encourageous the students to ask questions. Doesn't take attendance but very help to go and take notes. If you do and study your Practice Test you'll pass with an A. Just put in alittle effort and that A is a for sure. Carol Dyas is an Awesome professor!
I dropped this class once and retook it with her and it actually seemed CLEAR! Explains concepts well and is easily accessible in office hrs. Gives study guide for tests which are 90% multiple choice. Final is cummulative, but over old tests which she gives back. Go to class and you will make the grade. Good Math teacher
she's a good professor! do the HM/test reviews online and you'll do good in class. You dont' need to buy the book, its online!! UTSA needs more professors like her! she's always willing to help students out. take her, you'll learn.
Great math professor! She explains everything in great detail. Dont buy the book; everything is online. She has pop-quizzes-which have 1-3 questions on them, but usually you can talk with the person sitting next to you about them. Best math class I've ever had.
Dr. Dyas is super easy and very accessible. She's always saying, "Where else can you get a free tutor that knows EXACTLY what's going to be on the test?". I have an A in her class right now and if you show up and do the homework then you're guaranteed an A. I'm taking the second half of this course with her in the Spring.
If you have any trouble w/ math DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is not at all helpful. She teaches way too fast and if you need help you have to go to her office. Tough if you are taking a full load. I made an A in the first sect...now I'm struggling.
Great Teacher-Great Class!!
AWESOME professor! This is my 3rd class with her because I love the way she teaches. She gives very detailed notes and explains everything clearly. Gives lots of hints as to what will be on tests. She is always available outside of class time if you need help although I've never had to go b/c she explains everything so well in class! Take her class
soo easy if you go to class. seriously notes are straight from overhead! just go to class and youll pass and prolly get an A. i recommend her. she doesnt take role but there are 10 in class assignments that are throughout the semester that are worth 10 points so its good to go. tests come straight from review she gives
Great lady. Loves math, and tries to help/get you to come to her office. She teachers kind of fast, but if you ask questions she'll slow down and explain more. notes off overhead, go to class for the in-class assignments/quizzes. i hate math, but she made it bearable. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK - all hw is online (and the book is online too)
Horrible teacher! She makes you feel like you are stupid bc she can't teach! If you want to spend a lot of money for a bad comedy show, sign up for her class. Otherwise take Travis.
Hated her. She talked down to her students and made people feel dumb. Worst prof I've had at UTSA
I don't know what these previous comments were about, maybe just a bad experience because she explained everything to detail. I was never a math genius myself, and I have an A in her class. She is very helpful, holds her notes from all her classes for us so we can use if we missed class, what other teacher would do that? Highly recommended!
I enjoyed Dr. Dyas' class. It was simple, she writes her notes on the overhead along with you and does plenty of examples. She doesn't teach straight from the book, so you don't have to read and understand a lot of confusing math text. She gives reviews for tests and answers any questions from homework, assignments, etc. Great class.
I really enjoyed Professor Dyas' class this semester. She gives her notes on the overhead and keeps a copy until the next test so that if you have missed any you can ask for the notes. Her tests are just like tells you-she reviews all material before each test and is willing to work with you during office hours always. She is very approachable!
Dyas is very nice, but she doesn't like when students talk over her. She is extremely helpful and availible if you ask for her help. she is thorough and easy to understand. she does curve at the end.
Dr Dyas is a good professor. She tries to explain as much as she can. If your good at math its an easy A. If not it will take a some work, but she will always help you out if you need it.
Prof. Dyas is awesome. I learned so much from her. Her teaching style is great for those who struggle in math. She writes out her notes for every class so if you have to miss for some reason she will give you her notes. Highly recommended.
She is a great professor. I loved her teaching style, I am not a Math person in fact have always had major problems in my Math classes and I actually understand what she is teaching. I plan to take her again for 1163. If you do the hw and study for the test you will do great.
she is a great professor. I recommend her. As long as you go to class then you will pass. Most of her test questions are in her notes. She even tells you this will be on the test...im taking her for 1163..good luck
Eh. She was okay. I have nothing horrible to say, but I have nothing good to say either. Go to class and you will pass. Will you get an A? Not sure.
Dyas is a mediocre teacher and can be rude and condescending to her students. She is not very helpful, but sends you to the math lab instead. Her tests are what she tells you they will be, and if you study, you might do OK.
Great teacher, very clear. Homework is done on the computer, also practice test that help. She is very helpful, I strongly suggest this professor.
Tough but good. I am not a math person, but her method of teaching was very effectieve for me and I learned a lot in her class! Word of advice: Don't miss class!
Professor Dyas is a great teacher! I am not at all a math person but I like her style of teaching. She is very approachable and encourages students to ask questions. She's easily the best math teacher I've ever had. Be sure you go to class and you will be fin.
Prof. Dyas is a hard teacher there is no getting around that, however I have learned so much from her. She really teaches a lot and no matter what you learn something. I feel like I got my money's worth out of this class even though I struggled. Sometimes there are more important things then getting a great or good grade.
Prof. Dyas was a great instructor. I am good at math so it was an easy A. But for those that are not that good at math she gives a lot of examples, until you get it. She goes over the homework so if you need help, she shows you how to work the problems. I would definitely recommend her.
My mother and I have both had Dr. Dyas. She is a wonderful teacher and as long as you do the homework and ask questions you will do wonderfully. She is so pleasant and definitely has an interesting sense of humor.
Goes over hw.all hw assignments not due til test.go to class and you will be fine
She is an excellent teacher, very helpful, and encouraging. I would absolutely take another class by Prof. Dyas. She is amazing.
The only think I hated about this class was that she only gives one way to solve problems, so I pretty much had to figure it out on my own. People in the class seemed scared to ask a question when they didn't understand, she gives a "are you kidding me you don't get this??" look. When she explains more than once she talks to you like you're dumb
She is amazing! Very easy class if you do the homework (which she gives 5 pts on each test for if you turn it in!) and she is very good about making sure everyone understands new concepts. Will definitely be taking her for 1163.
Taking her again for 1163! She is a very good teacher and moves at a very good pace. This class is not that difficult and she assisngs homework that usually takes about 20 minutes to do. Gives reviews for the test that are worth 5+ points on your test if you do them and they are just like the test. She makes herself available to you AT ALL TIMES
Prof Dyas is a great professor. She provides you with fill in the blank notes for each class. She is always willing to help after class. Gives a good pre-test review and extra credit for each test. I am taking her for the next part of this class.
Great professor her class was really easy, but you must go everyday because if you miss something its hard to understand the next lesson. She grades her test a little hard, but its nothing to worry about. You will use MyMathLab the entire semester. But i would definitely recommend taking her class, I signed up for her class this coming semester.
Take this class! Esp if you're not strong in Math. She makes it easy to understand, gives you really good notes to study and practice from. She makes herself available for one-on-one time. Take advantage bc she will go at your pace. Not an easy class but you will learn Math!
I enjoyed this class. I am not a big fan of math but Dyas is a great professor. I took her for MATH 1153 AND 1163 The class is not too difficult but if you struggle with math she makes herself available to help as much as she can. You have unlimited tries to make a 100 on homework. Pay attention, do the work, ask questions and you will be fine!
Great class! Professor Dyas explains well and takes time and effort to help her students succeed.
I really enjoyed taking MAT 1153 and 1163 with Professor Dias! She explained all the work so clear. I am really bad at math but Professor Dias was an amazing professor and really got me to enjoy math. I learned so many strategies to use in my future classroom. The tests were easy, if you studied. The homework was also easy as well ! Great class!!!
Took Dr. Dyas for two course and I am so happy I did! She is a great professor! Always willing to help when you ask for it! You have to show up to class to do well (well, for at least someone who isn't that great in math) but overall the courses are clear and easy and to the point!!
Professor Dyas is caring and is patient with her students. She takes her time to carefully explain things to us. I personally wish she could be my professor for the rest of my math courses.
Dr. Dyas is a very kind lady who truly cares for your understanding on the lesson. The work is easy as long as you show up to watch her go through the concepts. She is great at explaining and giving different examples. Take her class, you won't regret it
Professor Dyas is similar to a high school teacher. In her lecture she makes sure to take things slow so students understand. She is always willing to help and there's frequently homework, but after taking her you'll have a true understanding of the subject. If math isn't your greatest subject I highly suggest taking her. Easy A if you do the work.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN!! Math has always been hard for me (like for many) & the way she teaches and uses many real-life examples really helps. This is the second semester I'm taking her, the only downside is a bit of online mymathlab homework but it's actually not that bad. Usually 3 tests and final, if final is higher than a test then it gets replaced.
Professor Dyas is the best professor I have taken here at UTSA so far! She is extremely compassionate and helps you really understand how to do math problems. She gives you a review for every test that really helps. The notes are pretty much made for you and you fill them in. You will get an A as long as you come to class and study the material.
I took professor Dyas last semester & it was the best class. She is very caring of her students & is an awesome lecturer. Asks many questions to make sure everyone knows the material before moving ahead. She is always available if you need additional help. The grading is very clear. She is a very sweet woman & i would gladly take this class again!!
Professor Dyas is one of the best professors I've had! She lectures at a steady pace, and always tries to answer people's questions. There is a review before every test, and if you do it for how ever many times, IT WILL HELP YOU GET AN A ON THE EXAM! Repetition is key!
While she is a great professor and an easy grader, she does not lecture well. Her lectures are long and to be honest quite boring. Not a class I would take with her again
The professor is nice, but they do not actually teach. She just works examples in her lectures, but doesn't *teach* any material, she just expects you to know it. You're better off not attending the online lectures, just google the lessons or read the eText and teach yourself. Lectures are boring anyways
I'm currently taking Dr. Dyas right now, and our last day will be May 3rd, but I'm doing great in her class. This is coming from a student who normally struggles in math, but she is an amazing professor. love her lectures because she stops and asks if we need more examples are extra help. She's also easy to reach and very friendly!
Being present in the lectures is important because you're going to need the notes she gives for the homework, quizzes, and exams. You can do the homework until you get it all right, you have three tries for the quizzes as well. If you need help, but can't make her office hours she's willing to meet at a better time for you.
Good professor. Made getting back into algebra extremely easy. The online classes are okay, honestly the MyMathLab sometimes teaches the material somewhat better (to my understanding at least) but an excellent professor to have for not-so-mathematical people like myself.
If your someone who struggles with math, she might be the best option. Pretty easy until the last part of the semester. Homework after every lecture, but she records them for later use. Have to buy some expensive account to do work, but everything's done on there. Sometimes she explains things weird, we ended up kinda teaching each other sometimes.
Professor Dyas was a good college algebra teacher to have considering it was an online class. It is important to attend zoom lectures as that is the only way to gain notes to use on the assignments. Exams are relatively easy if you understand math and the homework, plus you are given second chances on exams.
she is very sweet and holds a lot of office hours. there is a lot of homework online but you can get it done pretty fast. she also gives extra credit for every test including the final. test are also open for 2 days so plenty of time to take them.
There was a lot of homework but she had office hours or you can set up an appointment & she can help you. Attendance wasn't required but it does help with understanding the material. Tests were good if you're good at math. There are practice problems before the test & count as extra credit. Also, writing assignment problems can be more difficult.
Professor Dyas was a very understanding and sweet lady. However, we would frequently fall behind on the notes which made assignments confusing, but she would extend the due dates. Lots of homework on web work/written assignments, and requires you to submit your work for exams. Overall I would recommend this course to people who are patient.
Very sweet, and really cares about her students success. Lots of homework and extra credit. Had office hours and even took some time before class if anyone had questions. Attendance is mandatory, and I would take her math class again!
she was a very kind professor but didn't throughly explain things. im not sure of it is because of how fast paced the course itself was or not. if you miss a class it does feel really hard to catch up
Professor Dyas is pretty good for math-averse students. The online lectures are helpful, but unstuck AI and other resources like the textbook can be just as useful. Attendance is mandatory, but worth it for the extra practice opportunities. Overall, a solid class if you put in the work.
