She's weird. Doesn't respond to student's questions/comments. Doesn't seem to think others have opinions. BUT grades generously and doesn't let anyone leave class with a bad grade. Also she gives homework but I hear it's less then other speech prof give.

Tough lady, you have to work your *ss here, your speaches are videotaped, she loves mexicans so if you are one, go for it you'll get an A. otherwise you really have to work and deliver good speaches.
She was tough, clear in what she wanted, but I actually learned a lot in this class. It is true that there is quite a bit of work, but she does grade fairly. Although it is important to learn to communicate in business, and in life.

Very strict about essays. She thinks the class is 4000 level class. Assignments are time-consuming and she grades very harshly. Stay away!
the worst teacher that i've had a baruch in the 3 years that i've been here. Very unaccomodating and very anal about every apect. Super-critical and mean all around. If you don't become one of her favorites within the first few classes, your doomed!
At first I thought this class was one of the worst. It is a lot of work but she grades very high for your final grade. People who received C's on their speeches got b's and a's in the class. Highly recommended

this teacher is the worst. she gives the most work out of any speech class. never take her. if she is the only teacher left and you need to this class to graduate then stay another semester because its not worth taking her course! i feel like shooting myself in the mouth because of her work load.
Get on her good side and she is nice. Will not put up with slacking. Expect quizes on every chapter. She lets you use your out of class notes (provided you make any) on quizes. Anal about small things. MUST follow syllabus 24/7 to keep on top of things. Tough grader, expects top notch work

The course outline and syllabus are okay and the workload is not too bad. However, she is emotionally unstable and will not admit an oversite or mistake. She had two meltdowns during the semester and kicked all the students out of the class.

Live by the syllabus, or die by the syllabus. Kiss her @$$. It's not hard to get an A, but you will always have something due everyday, and she gives pop quizzes. She is very moody, random and her stress is displaced onto the students. I honestly think she is medically ill... Take her, show, up, kiss butt, do all the work. She's an easy grader.

CRAZY, this woman is Psycho. Shares weird personal info with the class. Very moody & bad attitude. Bipolar, multiple personalities, schizo, I don't know. Easy grader, but soo much work & pop quizzes. Assignments every day. Can be condescending. Entire class hated her and dreaded going to class. Take her class if you want to torcher yourself.

She is not so bad. Just not very clear when explains how we have to do the assignments, but in general I didn't have any problems.
She is not very clear when it comes to explaining the assignments, but if you take the time to figure them out, she is really not a hard grader. As long as you are passionate (well-prepared) with your topics and do all the little things that she asks, you will be fine. Good idea to visit her office hours at least once.

Tough professor... makes condescending remarks to students in a non-direct manner. Will not tolerate laziness, lateness, or sloppiness. Truly cares for a student's welfare but needs to realize that her class is not a student's ONLY class that semester. Better MEMORIZE the syllabus and pray that you're her favorite that day.
She is an easy grader...believe me. But her crappy attitude is not worth it at times. She is not clear at all, you'll be in space half the time...u'll never know what she wants you to do. Very helpful class. But as everybody says, crappy attitude. Her jokes are NOT funny! Work clearly on your speeches and you will be fine. Do not try to impress her because it wont work. Concentrate on your speeches and know exactly what she wants in the next class. If you have an option, take someone else's class.

One word of advice listen to the others who posted here. But playing devils advocate I think this type of teacher is necessary. She wont make things easy for you. She is very draining indeed. But I know that if get a good grade, you will feel GREAT. If you can, don't take her. If you have no choice, you're in for a trip, that much i can tell you.
If you can, do no take her. She is very anal. She will give you the syllabus and you have to follow it exactly. Half the people don't know exactly what she wants from you. She will penalize you if you don't do things her way. Nevertheless, i got a B-. I had to work really hard for it though.

I truly believe that outside the classroom, she's tolerable. Inside however, she's nuts. I'm actually one of her "favorites" this semester and I'm telling you, STAY AWAY. I'm going to school for my second degree now, and never before have I done so much ridiculous work for such a worthless intro class. P.S. If you lose the syllabus...God help you.

Well, she is moody at time, butshe really does not have too much of an attitude per say. She tells ALOT of bad jokes and you ill find her laughing by herself after saying somethings. But if you suck up to her, you will do just fine, you may have to bite your tongue but its for a good cause...your GPA.
Do all the homework, and be well prepare for all the speeches. In that case, you will get an A, even if you do not do good in quizzes. And if you have any problem, ask her during the office hour, she helps a lot!
Anal about her speeches. Preparation speech has a particular outline and the speaking outline CANNOT have TOO much information on it when you give your speech because she will make you start over.Very particular about your "sources" for your speech.Gives random quizzes/pop quizzes.Lets u use outlines for them as a cheatsheet if you made them.50/50.
just finished a semester with her: awesome professor. whoever says that she's hard is beyond ridiculous. sure she can get a little anal and moody on some days, but other than that, if you're well prepared then the speeches are a breeze. quizzes are a joke (common sense!) and assignments are not bad compared to other classes. HIGHLY recommended.
Fair grader!I got an A in the class, but I had to work very hard. I wasn't thrilled about going to her class at first, but in the end I truly believe my speaking abilities improved after her class. Remember you're going to college to learn! If you can hold up a conversation with her you'll do fine! Don't let her harsh comments bring you down!

Hard grader, not help at all. She never use the textbook. Quiz almost every class, but question nothing from the textbook. When two writing center tutor say my paper is good, she give me a C+ without clearly tell me why. Ask her, she just tell you go writing center again. Stop you when you are doing speech. Had the fortune of taking Prof. Gray's class about 5 or 6 yrs ago. I can assure you, if you take her class you will excel in speech making. I was not the most well versed individual, stuttered every other word and ended each sentence with nervous "umm's." She is like "Simon Cowell" but her criticisms will help you improve. Thank you Prof. Gray!

At the end of the semester, she's very nice and very conversational for some reason. At the beginning... well, that's another story. She wants papers for everything and not just any papers, 2 page papers single spaced. Midterm 5 pages. Grades fairly though. Shes very sarcastic and does have her days. I would recommend if you love writing, a lot!
She is not as bad as she seems at first. Might be very confusing and moody sometimes. But I think she is an easy grader, just don't take the papers too seriously. In fact I submitted the midterm paper 6 weeks after the due date and still got 92 for it:) all bibliography and research cards was an entire make-up but still got an A for the course
She can be confusing and gives a lot of 1-2 pg single spaced writing assignments. Her midterm paper is 3-5 pages, single-spaced. However, as long as you complete the assignments, you'll get an A (including the midterm). If you suck at public speaking, make sure everything else like the outlines are complete. I'm a terrible speaker but got a B+.
Even you get A, i still believe that you deserve 6 credits,because your effort should be rewarded at least 6 credits. She just asks you to finish the huge amount of work, but she never teach you how to do. Worst teacher i ever had. she is a mean person.

Absolutely, without a doubt the worst professor I've ever had in my life and I'm a senior. Will make your life a disaster, gives tons of unnecessary work and has a very nasty attitude. It is true that she gives 6 page single space midterm and alot of work. But she is a easy grader. She is nice when you do all the work and participate and everything. Vora is a darling compared to this one, didn't have a chance to breathe while taking her class and although I worked really hard and made sure to get everything done to perfection, she still found ways to take points off and drop my gpa. One word - HORRIBLE!!

Avoid this professor. The only speech class with midterms, quizzes and essays. Very unclear, expects you to guess what she's thinking. Ask questions at your own risk, on a good day you won't get an answer, on a bad day she will embarass you in fron of the class for asking.

Textbook reading mandatory for in-class quizzes. Midterm was actually a bit tricky, but final was simple. Teaches how to give effective speeches. Not a terrible class.

The professor is horrible. Whatever you do, she will never be happy. the work is so not worth just the 3 credits you receive. She takes pop up quizzes that are not on the syllabus. And for the final you have to give an impromptu speech.

This professor is absolutely the most terrible human being. She goes out of her way to embarrass students and make them feel worse than they did going in to it. Public speaking is one of people's greatest fears and although I was never nervous beforehand, I was terrified after because of her penchant to make everyone cry (yes, even the dudes.)
Professor Gray was the worst professor I've ever had. She has a terrible attitude. If you do something wrong, she doesn't even try to help you, she just gives a look of disgust and tells you to fix it without helping you. This professor is very tough at grading. If you work hard, you still barely pass. I'd recommend anyone taking this class to reconsider. She makes your life very hard. You will suffer a lot. When you give speeches, she interrupts you in the middle of your speech, and you get points off just for being a quiet person. She gives very hard quizzes.

Avoid at all cost if your are a bad speaker and a bad writer. The majority of the class consists of speeches (65%), quizzes (25%), and participation (10%). Tests are irregular, expect fill-in-the-blank questions. Final is multiple-choice with an impromptu speech. Get textbook. Professor is unhelpful in class and does not respect her students.
Don't take this professor. I got her for the communication class, and she's not helpful at all. She gives unclear assignment, and when you ask her questions about the assignment she give. She doesn't answer at all. And having tough test and more presentation than others.
Have the text 1st day. Her tests are from the chapters she assigns (in the summaries). She skips around the text. Make sure you have the right syllabus, half the class had old one then she revised it and it was completely different. She isn't very clear. If your not sure ASK! She'll try to make you feel dumb but everyone needs to know, 4 speeches.
Definitely avoid AT ALL COSTS. Her instructions for assignments are always confusing and sometimes contradicting to other instructions & she probably won't answer your questions/requests for clarification. She gives tonnes of unnecessary assignments (no exaggeration). Oh & if she doesn't like you, you're screwed no matter how good your work is.

I dare you to take her COM1010 class. This is the absolute most go-hard teacher you will ever come across. Have a speech coming up? Expect to write a 3-4 page paper single spaced from your research, then a 1-2 page outline to speak with, then 8-9 research cards and 9 bib cards. Then the next day write a 2 page single spaced 11pt font self analysis.
This Professor requires a lot of work for a Comm 1010 class. This work is extremely easy though, its a comm 1010 class... Listen carefully in class because she hates repeating herself. Prepare carefully on the speeches. If you outshine majority of the students on your speech your getting an easy A.
Professor Gray is indeed tough but it is college so that is to be expected. Everything is on the syllabus, clear and straight to the point. As long as you do everything you have to then you will pass. Do not slack off and put in a lot of effort.
Professor Gray is extremely impatient, especially when it comes to her international students. She is not clear with what she expects regardless of how well she lays it out on her syllabus. When you ask a question she answers with "look on the syllabus, read the textbook", instead of taking the time to further explain something you HAVE read.
Professor Gray is a fair professor who doesn't share the same humor as must young adults. Pop quizzes are on textbook materials and lecture notes. I only recommend Professor Gray if can deliver dynamical speeches because she appreciates them based on her rubric. Again, Professor Gray's humor is indescribable and unmatched by other professors.
Very disrespectful person, especially towards non-native English speakers. Can't communicate even though she teaches communications, and gives unclear directions. Throws unnecessary temper tantrums in the middle of class as a result of students not understanding her confusing directions. Wants everyone to agree with her extremely liberal opinions.
This is my favorite professor. She cares about her students. It will take you some time to adapt to her, she is a bit quirky. Just do your speeches, she will respect you if you respect her. Don't be late. Laugh at her jokes. Act like its the last speech you will ever give.
