She is also listed as Carol Alexander. She is a great teacher and makes class interesting. She knows her stuff and is easy to follow. Plenty of reading involved and tests are essay, but if you pay attention and give a lot of examples to back your answer up, she grades fairly. I stongly recomend her.
Great teacher. Read and take notes. You will learn a lot if you do not miss class. Very understanding and helpful. UNCC needs to take her away from Davidson College.

She is great, has a great personality and knows her material. She gets everyone to participate and that makes a difference. Take notes and you will be fine
Good teacher! Class based on several questions about "the frontier." Come to class, read, and do the readers reports and papers. Definatly passable.
Class is ridiculously hard. You have four books to read from and they arent easy to follow and bring the information together as she would like. Avoid this class with her if you dont like to read 30 pages for each class & taking notes for majority of time spent in class or like to skip out on class you will miss alot and she counts it against you.
great prof. i never read and have a B in the class. 3 absences and you drop a letter grade. go the day before a test and get the ID's and possible essays. search on wikipedai, and you'll be fine. I am not even trying in this class and getting a B. be a good BS'er. makes uninteresting material ok. EXTREMELY EASY!!!
This is an indians in America History course and I really expected it to be completely boring but Dr. Highman / Alexander makes this class interesting. Pay attention and take good notes during lecture and you dont have to read the books at all. There is a lot of reading to do, but I havent done any of it and have made A's on all of her tests.
Absolutely amazing...you HAVE to read all 4 of the books because little details are on every test, but at the end of the semester you will be so relieved that you know everything because there's a cumultive final. She made me so interested in all of the material, I'm contemplating becoming a History minor because of her! TAKE HER!
Terrible
I had Prof Higham when I was at WSU! She was tough but very fair! Great sense of humor! Inspired you to learn! Thanks Prof Higham
Dr. Higham was a wonderful teacher, passionate about her work and showed really dedication to the subject matter. Would love to take another of her classes!
AWESOME!! I didn't do the reading, although it would have helped out. Final was super easy. She tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. Definately take her!!
Dr.Higham will probably go down as one of my favorite professors. She really is super helpful and funny, too. You have to write a big paper for this class, and she holds your hand all the way through. i really dreaded taking this class, but she made it awesome.
Dr. Higham is AWESOME. I learned much more than expected. Her teaching style is extremely effective! She is is truly an educator I will emulate. I will also take many of the study skills she taught into other classes.
Real boring. But in her defense this subject is dry. Wish we learned about the Indian way of survival not the politics of Indians and Europeans.
She is a great professor tough but fair and a little funny. If you go to class, take good notes and do the required reading you will pass. The only bad part is the books are boring so it takes a bit of pushing to get yourself to read the stuff. Overall a great professor
Not good. I have taken many history classes at this school, this is the worst. Cons: learned little/nothing very unclear notes can't lecture properly, only lectures HALF of the classes, the class discussed readings the other half. If I wanted that I would have started a book club. Pros: Very helpful and encourages questions great positive attitude.
LBST Western Culture. There is A LOT of reading. Half the class is lecture, the other is review from the reading. She always has a smile on her face and is passionate about history. She is always willing for office hour visits and she designed this class specifically for freshmen. EASY for upperclassmen.
Fairly good professor, not hard to listen to (and mine is an 8am). However, if you're not interested in the material don't take her Western Culture class. She requires a lot of very boring reading. I read minimally and am getting mediocre grades. Pretty sure if you read everything and attend class you'll get an A.
Higham is a great professor. She expects alot from her students but is always willing to work with them. There is not much work outside of class except for writing your long paper. She is easy with grading and always available when students need extra help. I am so glad that I had her for hist skills. I feel very prepared for the senior seminar.
Great Professor. Easy to understand and is willing to help students anyway they can. There is heavy reading in the beginning but lightens up to work on paper. I'm a procrastinator and still made a B. Take her if you want to enjoy you skills seminar!!
GREAT PROFESSOR! She loves what she does and it shows! She is always willing to meet if you need help. HINT: form a study group from the start! If the reading isnt hard enough, she wants you to 'read between the lines' and sometimes thats easier said than done!
Teacher is awesome! Really interested in the topic and it rubs off on everyone else in the class. Attendence isnt mandatory but there occasional attendence quizzes.Tip:if you want a good grade in the class then go to class and take notes on what she says in class and remember them for the in-class essay tests. She goes over the book in class! JW
2600 takers, TAKE HER CLASS! Alot of reading in the very beginning, and when you start to work on your paper it tapers off. With the way she has class set up you finish your long paper a month before it's due, and you have a month to edit it while your other finals are happening. I feel VERY prepared for my more advanced history classes.
Awesome teacher! The material is BORING and useless info however she makes it interesting and keeps you involved. Text books are required and thats where most of the info comes from however I didnt read a single word and ended up with a 98. MAKE A STUDY GROUP RIGHT AWAY. Go to class everyday, go over her notes before exam day and youll be fine
Literally one of my favorite teacher. Pretty nice personality if you pay attention and come to close. If you ever taken an IB class then this class is for you. The test format focus on a holistic perspective which you can BS if you're 'literate' and follow her lectures. Got 100+ on nearly all her test since theres extra credit questions.
Great teacher! she really cares about your grade and performance. Read the books, get your work done and you will have no problems! Loved her!
Wanted to drop her class the entire time I was in it. You have to read a ridiculous amount of boring history from several different books throughout the semester. You have to attend class or she will give random attendance quizzes. If she calls on you for an answer about the readings and you are clueless then she gives quizzes. Very rude.no talking
She is a pretty good teacher, she grades pretty well and there is a lot of reading for the class so make sure you do it. It's not a hard class to pass.
One of the BEST Professors I have taken...she will help you in any way possible. If you are a History major..take her for 2600...a lot of work in the beginning but by the end you have a month to review your paper and you are done so you wont have to worry about her class and more exams...LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!
Overall, she's a good teacher. Makes lectures interesting despite a rather dull topic. Attendance quizzes are random, and count as extra credit if you are in class. Test aren't horribly difficult, mostly essay.
Higham is a good professor, but can be strict. You will pass her 2600 class if you attend class, are attentive, and do the assigned work. As long as you don't disrupt her during class and work hard on the research paper, you will do fine.
If you listen at all, and do what she tells you, you should get a B at minimum.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT TO READ EVERY DAY FOR HOURS.
Very nice lady but there is A LOT of reading in this class & you have to read in order to pass her tests. Her tests are all written in bluebooks, essay questions and definitions only. She takes attendance every day. Cancelled class 2 or 3 times this semester. Has a very nice personality, but I wouldn't recommend if you don't like reading/writing.
Dr Higham is the best teacher in the LBST sections. Yes there is alot of reading but if you attend class and pay attention you can make an easy A. You don't have to read all of the book you just have to know how to read the information. I hate reading books but if you pay attention and be engaged in class you will be just fine.
great teacher at first but its alot of work for the course. If not interested in Indians don't take it all the test requires essay and the final happens to be all essays. Very hard course and professor is boring when during lectures
She is kind and teaches you what is required for history research papers in a useful way. The only issue I've had is trying to understand was how to write a thesis statement but that was because of the English department and not her. Homework is mandatory and her grading is easy but attendance is a must to pass due to the information said in class.
Dr. Higham is a brilliant lady when it comes to Native Americans. If you come to class everyday ready to work and learn then you should be fine. She is very level headed and educated in the best schools (Yale and Duke), and that education rubs off on her students. There is a bit of reading, but that is what history is all about.
Great prof. Comes off stern, but genuinely cares and is willing to help you if you ask. Step by step procedure during the paper process was fantastic, and as long as you show up and are interactive, the class serves its purpose and is enjoyable. Just be sure you DON'T USE PASSIVE VOICE in you writing haha.
She is a very nice lady. But the class is so hard! You read all the time and the only real grade is the final paper. If you take her class be ready to work really hard.
Dr. Higham is always willing to be flexible and change her schedule to meet with you. She makes you work hard and read a lot, but by the end of the semester you feel super accomplished. She genuinely cares about every single one of her students and takes the time to learn your first and last name & your life outside of the classroom. She's amazing!
She is tough!! 50% of one class failed second midterm and 15 from another class also failed! I LOVE the class but, If I can help it.. I would NEVER take her class again!
It's a history class, so if you want an easy A lbst take someone else. If you want a fun history class with a brilliant professor take this course.
I would take this class again just because Dr. Higham is such a great professor. The class is hard, and the effort you put in will reflect your grade.
Great Professor! Move your whole schedule around to take her! She is so helpful and understanding! She does have high expectations though so don't think this class will be easy. There will be a lot of reading and critical thinking so you have to come prepared to class. Don't think you can slack off in this class because people drop left and right.
Great teacher and the topic is very interesting. You have to study and take notes in the class but if you do, the material is easy. Make sure you know how to write a good essay , go to class, and listen to the lecture.
Dr. Higham has high standards, but if you do the work by the time it's due, there's no reason you shouldn't pass this class. She gives clear feedback about what you need to do to fix your issues. Being lazy or procrastinating is the only way to fail this class. If you put the effort, she'll match it.
She is a nice teacher, provides help when it is needed. Tough class though, must do the readings to pass.
Literally the most helpful professor I've ever had. We met probably every other week cause the historiography stressed me out. The homework she assigns is confusing but its only for the first half of the semester. She's super nice and always is willing to help and responds quick to emails. Definitely take her.
Dr. Higham is a really awesome professor! I went into the class a little nervous about the semester and her class in particular. If you do all the assigned reading(which is a lot but worth it), and you go to class and take notes, you should be fine in the class. My biggest suggestion is to make sure you form a study group!
Dr. Higham was honestly the best teacher I have ever had! she was super helpful and always willing to answer all my question! There wasn't really any quizzes just papers you had to write & a lot of reading, she does require you to do some homework from the methods book! easy class if you pay attention and try!
Dr. Higham is the best professor I've had at UNCC so far. She's always willing to help, if you email her with questions she gets back to you quickly even on the weekend. The class is difficult but she wants you to succeed and is always willing to help.
Dr. Higham is an awesome professor. She gives really interesting and clear lectures. There are a lot of readings and all the exams are essays, but if you put in the work it pays off. You basically get what you put into the class. Its an easy A/B if you go to class and do everything you're supposed to.
Seriously love Dr. Higham. She has been one of the best history professors I've had at UNCC. She expects a lot from you but if you genuinely try your best and work hard you should have no problem in her class.
You won't encounter someone that cares this much often. The class is the hardest I've taken and in the end I've decided to change my major. She's extremely professional and very funny. It's pretty easy to get swept away in the course, she realizes it's not a walk in the park, but has high expectations. Take her at all costs.
Prof. Higham is a fun person to be around. She will guide you every step of the way to being a much better writer. Class is front loaded so it gets easier during the 2nd half of the semester. She is a very involved with her students and actually wants to be approached. I have enjoyed my entire History Seminar with her and would certainly take again
Somehow she made this class interesting. I don't even know how. You can tell she really loves what she teaches and makes the lectures interesting (I hate history by the way). There's 2 exams and a final (they are all essays). If you go to class and make connections you will pass.
Higham was an awesome professor! Really nice and funny. There are a ton of readings but the class was big so it's easy to get away without reading anything. 3 short papers, a midterm, and a final. Midterm and final are all essay questions. Attendance enforced. You have to put in some kind of effort to make a good grade but it would be hard to fail.
She is such a wonderful professor. I would stop by her office hours to harass her with random questions and she always would take the time to give me answers. The reading assignments can be lengthy, but the "textbooks" are cheap, I spent no more than $50 on this class. Hard class, but she will motivate you to study. Definitely do not pass her up.
Great professor that gives interesting lectures. Expect to read roughly 50-100 pages per assignment given, and do not half-ass papers as most of your grade is papers and mid-term+final. Mid-terms and finals are essay questions that she gives you weeks in advance, but they stretch throughout all of semester. Would always recommend her.
Best history teacher at UNCC, do the work, go to class, and write the papers well and you will get a B
Honestky, the best teacher I've had at UNCC. She cares about the students, and the history department. I mean year shes a tough grader, but shes really blunt you will always know why your grade is the way it is in her classes. If you skip her class without her knowing, you will fail, if you don't take notes... you will also fail.
I took Dr. Higham for two classes this spring and she is one of the best history professors at UNCC! She really cares about her students and if you're a history major you HAVE to take 2600 with her! She will help make you a better writer and gives great feedback. I never write reviews, but I had to for her! Can't say enough good things about her
Dr. Higham is probably one of the best professors at UNC Charlotte. I've taken her for several classes and she is a real mentor to me. If you are a History major please make a point to take one of her classes and develop a relationship with her she is a great resource. Dr. Higham is a Yale grad and she has high standards but it is very doable.
Dr Higham is a great professor, she will work with you and is fair, she doesn't have too complex assignments
PROS: Gives great feedback Show her you care and you'll do well Textbooks are under $100.00USD Cons: Be in class! If you plan to skip 3-2 times This class is not for you! Packback cost is $25.00USD Get ready to read! Don't think about quizlet as a study reference! Exams are all different!
This class is definitely not an easy A. You need to participate in class, you need to do all the readings. If you cant answer questions about the readings, shell give out a pop quiz to the class. There are no PowerPoint notes so notes are taken based on what she says. Therefore, attendance is a must. She does grade fairly and gives good feedback
Personal grades (besides quizzes/papers) are determined by a class average. Have a lot of slackers in your class? Use it to your advantage by staying ahead and making the top averages on assignments. But beware, if no one knows the material on an assignment there WILL be a pop quiz. Go to class, participate on PackBack, and try to read. Easy class.
She is an amazing professor and is great with the content. She focuses a lot on the Cherokee and on slavery rather than on the political aspects most history classes focus on. She has eye opening lectures and reading. She uses Packback, so get ready.
She was a tough teacher. However ,she is also the best teacher I have taken so far at UNCC. Although the topic of cannibalism is sort of boring, the critical thinking skills she taught me is invaluable. She may be the first teacher in my life to push me to become a better student. This class is not an easy A but it felt so good to get it.
This class was online due to COVID. She is so understanding and helpful for anyone who needs her!! We used the "required" textbook maybe once on the 2nd week. This class is centered around papers and projects and she only gives lecture to help with that. Very easy class but you need to be a decent writer and do your work.
I loved Dr. Higham! She was always very nice and funny, trying to make an early morning zoom lecture a bit more bearable. She gave really good feedback on the papers you'll be writing, which there are two big ones. You have to do some readings for the class to know what you're writing/talking about but it's not a lot. HIGHLY recommend for LBST2301!
Professor Higham was probably one of the best professors Ive had in college. At first I wasnt sure when looking at her syllabus but trust me if you need to take an LBST, take her class! Super nice teacher and is very accessible outside of class. Also gives great feedback and will answer any questions you have.
Professor Higham has been the best professor that I have ever had. She gives great feedback. Attendance and participation are mandatory! So make sure you make it to class and participate. If not, she will randomly start calling on students. I had her class online in the morning, and she would make us laugh and put music to wake us up.
Professor Higham is very knowledgeable and does a great job teaching useful skills. My course was taught on a topic I had no interest in, yet I enjoyed the course because of her unique style of teaching. We had a paper and a few group projects.
I had Professor Higham for LBST 2301, and she was absolutely amazing. By far the most understanding professor I have ever interacted with. She regularly makes herself personally available to everyone, gives mental health days, gives clear (and very reasonable!) feedback and expectations, and all around just treats every student with respect. 10/10
While she has a sense of humor it doesn't make up for how intense the class can be. She gives little work only a midterm and final, some short papers, and pack back. She expects you to read a TON! You really have to be intrigued by history to actually like the class. If you're taking it as an elective it's not an easy A, it's a big workload!
Any class with Dr. Higham is something special. She creates good class discussions on the material and is very approachable. The big final paper will test your skills, but she gives plenty of time for you to work on the assignment and is always available for questions. There are no good reasons to procrastinate in her class. Best history professor!
Pretty much the Bill Belichick of professors. Hard class, but you will learn the material. Will call on random members of the class about the reading, so be prepared. Not easy, not incredibly hard.
Absolutely amazing professor. I had her last spring and it was online because of COVID but the community she created in the class will be something I will never forget. Take her at some point in your academic path if you can!
Very good communication if you reach out to ask about an assignment or something you don't fully understand.
Professor Higham makes this class sooo interesting. This was by far my favorite class this semester. She has very open communication, clear grading, and is always willing to help her students. If you can take her class, TAKE IT. Make sure you do the reading before class :).
I took her class Spring 2022. Dr. Higham was a fantastic professor, and was very detailed with what exactly she expects from you in my experience. She always answered my emails in an incredibly timely fashion. She graded fairly, and the assignments helped prepare you for the final paper, and made time management more helpful.
AMAZING!!! I would retake her if I could. She gave lots of clear feedback and was ALWAYS willing to help/work with you. She gave lots of great advice and is super funny. Definitely recommend her for 2600, she prepares you very well!!
Loved her! She kept class interesting. Definitely worth the shot.
2600 can be a tough class, but Dr. Higham makes sure to give feedback and help you every step of the way. Definitely the best professor to take for this class.
Dr. Higham is my favorite professor I've had at UNC Charlotte. I had her for 1160 and chose to take her course again. She is so passionate about her subject and cares about her students. Be prepared to come to class and work hard. She will make you a better student.
Professor Higham is extremely effective at teaching, and getting the most out of her students. While the class was difficult at times, I found the course to be very fulfilling and I am now a far better writer.
Professor was always willing to meet during office hours to assist with your papers. All of the lectures will give you the information you'll need to study for your midterm and final. Has a weekly assignment that helps boost your grade. She has a good sense of humor, is caring towards her students, and heavily knows the information she teaches.
Awesome professor, there is a lot of reading but you can tell she loves what she teaches. This translates to engaging and interesting lectures. She is swift to respond to emails and is always helpful.
This was a very challenging course for me this semester, don't expect it to be an easy gen-ed. Be prepared to spend days even hours on all of her assignments. There is no extra credit given, you will have learn to improve your writing and critical thinking skills over the semester.
Dr. Higham is a great professor overall and willing to work with you if you have any troubles. However, she is strict with her grading, quite challenging when you aren't a history major. I thought this course was going to be an easy A, but I struggled immensely, hard work pays off though!
Dr. Higham was the best history class anyone could take. You want to make sure you're taking notes because her slides only have a couple of words on them. When she says she's your textbook. She means it. I'd make sure in that class you do every single reading because she will call on people, she enjoys class participation that is a big thing.
Dr. Higham pushes you to be a better student, she makes sure you understand the content and can apply it for the exams and papers. Make sure to take notes during her lecture! She's challenging with a lot of reading and work to prepare for class but if you put in the time and effort, you will succeed.
