Professor Hoban is very nice but doesn't seem to know her material very well. Her first tests were ok but as the semester went on her tests didn't have much to do with the study guide or material in class. She gives "choose the best answer" test
Nice gal, but lab was extremely boring and she did nothing to make it interesting. Her tests were hard and she is not the least bit lenient in grading. Not a fun lab at all - could be the material, could be her.
Her tests are really hard, and the labs very boring.I had a 50 before the final...didn't take the final because I would have to get a 100 to get the grade I needed. When I checked my final grade I came out of that class with a C! Hooray for grade curves!
She is very clear about what is due and when. She is very helpful outside of class by e-mail. The labs aren't that exciting, but they aren't too difficult and you have the instructions plus she goes over them in class. Dosen't seem super excited to be in class, but she makes science understandable
Nice person, not a good professor!.Her classes are boring even to me who likes science! She doesn't explain well and when you take her tests they are nothing alike to the material discussed in class.I would never take her again,or maybe when she knows what she is talking about or learns how to teach
Only good thing is attendance isnt required, however, if you dont go often you wont do well
her tests do not follow her notes and her questions on her test are too broad, not helpfull at all. i fell i hae learned nothing.
tests are not easy, they are very confusing. class is boring, she only takes up 1/2 of the labs you do and its a suprise when she does, so you end up doing them all and only get credit for like 5. doesnt take attendence but she does 'group activites' and if you miss it you cant make it up
Test are very hard. They only cover 2 chapters at a time but any sentence could be on the test. Multiple choice but almost every choice could be right. Assigns 12 labs but only collects 6 randomly. Also has 6 random group activities. Final is optional. Be prepared to study well if you want an A or B.
Tests are very hard but the class in general is hard. She gives extra credit to help boost your grade if needed.
Carol Hoban is a nice person and is very civil outside of class. But in class her multiple choice tests are exactly that, multiple choices for every problem. Prepare to debate why you believe her problems had multiple choices for each one you received points off. *Also do not miss more than two labs in her course, you will fail the course by defaul
The classes were ok but the tests were terrible. The questions were never clear and covered way more than the instructor did in class.

She is really nice but pretty hard. Attendance is not mandatory but 10% of your grade will be a random day she chooses to take attendance. SHe offers extra credit. Her test dont have much to do with her study guides. If you need help she is more than willing. Her final is optional
Sooooooooo boring. Reads straight from the powerpoint (which she gives you) so no point in going to class
The class is really boring and she doesnt help matters much. However, I didnt go to except on important days and I made a B.
Since ~15% of your grade is from in-class group assingments, I would advise going to class! Her lectures are a bit tedious as she just reads her power point... My only advise is to keep up with the labs and actually read the book. That helped a lot with the tests as they seemed to be taken directly from the book.
Watch out for this one, exams are hard as I have ever taken before, and worse. Read everything, chapter, notes, labs, know everything and you might get a B. Good luck
This class is super-hard, but it is the subject and amount of information. Carol was clear and concise and very helpful during the entire course.
She teaches using powerpoints, and labs are online. Her tests are about 1/3 over the labs, and attendance is not required. Her class is really boring.
The class is all on powerpoints that she posts. Huge class, so no attendance. A few group projects, Labs are online. you will need to learn some things on your own because she just reads from powerpoint. Tests are slighly hard. Extra credit if you do a presentation and if you find and article that has to do with some topic from class.
she is not a great teacher! you dont have to go to class but most of the days you will need to. she does not care about her students at all. you can try to ask her a guestion but she will not help you! if you get a 79.7 in the class she will not give you a B. she reeds right off her power points. she is not the best at teaching!!
Lectures are boring, and although they're directly off power point slides, those slides are like cheat sheets for the exams. I never cracked the book - only attended class and reviewed slides and earned an A+ in the class. If the book and notes contradict one another, always go with the notes.
Prof. Hoban doesn't give homework and the labs are online. The first 3 labs require thought but after that you can answer the quiz without reading the labs. Hoban speaks slowly during lecture so you can get good notes. The test are a combo of notes and lecture.
she teaches from the powerpoints that are online and says to read the book but i dont think i opened it all semester. she doesnt give homework and the labs are online and you dont need to turn most in. the labs are mostly ridiculous and tedious and there are a few test questions about them. overall she is a decent teacher.
very strait foward class; powerpoints and lectures, few assignments that are due online; and three exams; you do have the possibility of being exempt from final if you score well on your exams
Very nice but not exactly the best teacher. It doesn't seem like she always knows the answers when questions are asked but the class is really basic. I went to class but never read and barely studied and I ended up with a high B. Pluses: Lots of videos and the final is optional.
I actually liked Hoban for APII lab. Homework is required-but without it I would have done horrible. I wouldn't have done it but because it was a grade it forced me to do the reviews for each chapter. The reviews help A LOT on the two lab exams. She always goes over the Kinko's Guide first thing, then you re-learn it again for the remainder of the
This class was boring, but I guess the professor did the best she could. She was pretty cool. If you do the assignments & quizzes, study the online powerpoints, and read over the book, you should make a B pretty easily. Attendance is only important on in-class assignment and exam days. It is somewhat helpful to go to class most of the time.
This professor is unwilling to help students. She started the very first class with the pronouncement that most students would fail. She is VERY unapproachable, offered SI instruction support, but SI tutor only scheduled time late at night or on weekends, no help whatsoever! AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!
Absolutely terrible. The worst teacher I've had at Kennesaw State thus far. I'm currently in her summer course and the average class grade for our tests haven't been above a 74. She's not helpful in the least and busting you rear won't get you a higher grade. Be prepared for a C or lower.
Read the book, come to class, take the notes. Average test scores are around 72%. Exams are tricky. Labs are tedious. She will answer your questions, but she doesn't enjoy doing it and it shows. I don't think she enjoys teaching this class.
She wasn't the most interesting or engaging professor but it was a class of 200. I got an A in this class. If you read and study it's doable. She also offers extra credit. The people that were whining about their grades never showed up to class. It's not an "easy A" which made people complain. Test material from labs, book, and a couple of films.
Plainly put, she is the worst teacher. She does not teach so be prepared to teach yourself. When you ask her to help you she will direct you to other sources. She actually may get a kick out of watching students fail. If you want to mess up your GPA TAKE HER! If not, run away FAST
PLAINLY PUT: GPA RUINER
Extremely boring. Seems to not want to teach, and does not care about her students. Just reads off the powerpoints during class. TESTS ARE RIDICULOUS! She makes it seem like tests will be over general info, but they are very specific and very confusing. The labs are very easy though!
Doesn't want to teach and doesn't know what she's talking about. She is easily confused by the subject manner that she teaches. I attended EVERY class and barely made a B. If SI sessions are available, I would strongly recommend attending.
Mrs. Hoban is AWESOME. The class is very interesting. The tests are all over the power points. I didn't use my book once, and I got an A. Study the powerpoints, do the labs, and you have SEVERAL chances to improve your grade if you mess up!! You can't get a bad grade unless your stupid. I'd take her again..
THIS PROFESSOR SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN! I showed up to EVERY class, read the book (which she directed us to) and still scored nothing higher than a 70% on the tests. She is NOT approachable and does NOT care about her students.
She made the comment the first day of class, "out of 200 in this class only 5% will get an A, 10% will get B's, and the rest will recieve C and lower." Should have dropped her right then but needed the class for my schedule.
She was a little monotonous, but she was clear and had notes for you to download while she went over them in class. I felt prepared for the test because I showed up for every class. She knew what she was talking about and I learned new things about the environment. What more can you ask for? Do the work (labs) and show up and you will be fine.
BORING!! I hardly used the book except for in class group work. I wish I had not bought it because my 1102 teacher doesn't use the book at all!! Her class is doable as long as you actually put in the effort- but BORING!!
Had her for lab. It was very clear that she didn't really want to be teaching. She did not teach at all. If you asked questions, she answered them. However, she acted annoyed when you asked and provided incorrect answers to my questions often. If you have any other alternative, I would suggest taking a more engaged and knowledgeable instructor.
I had her for lab this semester and I think she was OK. I would not recommend taking her if you are not that dedicated of a student. You have to spend alot of time studying, a lot. She was nice but she did not hold anyone's hand, you must learn the material on your own so be prepared to do so. The 2nd test as a killer! Still got and A though.
This is just a tough biology class. Prof gives A LOT of useful study materials/learning objectives and is fair with bonus points. Read every chapter! just going to class is not enough. Use the online study tools that come with the textbook (masteringbiology.com), test questions are very similar to the questions on those practice tests.
She is a nice person but she floods you with WAY TOO MUCH to study and she only puts 30% of all that in her test! I found out that if you dont read the book your done and if you dont come to class you are also finished lol...Overall ok teacher just a hard class!!!
Any extra help that was needed was posted online. Extra credit was given through activities posted online. Well organized. Read the book, come to class and you'll do fine.
After reading some reviews, I figured I would add my two cents. Dr. Hoban is a fair professor, a little green when it comes to lecture, but she covers what will be on the exam in class. Read the chapter and make your own notes before you come to class. Read your notes everyday and you will be on your way to an A.
Biology is a hard class in general. She gives you way too much stuff that's not even necessary. I mean, she's a really nice professor and always has at least 5 bonus questions on the test, but the amount of material she makes us study is ridiculous. She gives practice questions(which are extremely difficult) and then says the test is even harder
She is a hard professor, biology is hard on its own and 2107 covers a ton of information. She tries and if you go to her she will try to clarify the information, she is a green professor, extremely intelligent and nice but green. You must read the chapters and take good notes, do not think 2107 is joke or you will fail, try hard and make an A.
A & P covers a large amount of material so be prepared and keep up with the workload. She posts pwr pnt notes online and gives extra credit on tests. Attend the SI sessions and you should do great. She is very clear about what will be on the exams and gives sample questions that will show up on the tests. Be sure to use the MyA&P website.
Attendance not required, but I suggest you attend. Read the book, it's too much material for just lecture, if you think otherwise you will have a bad grade. Study to the learning objectives, read, and attend class and you should get an A or B. I did not attend SI. Got an A. Very difficult class. She will not do your work for you!But she's not bad!
Still a little green in the teaching so spends too much time reading the powerpoints in class instead of adding additional notes to them but otherwise great professor. Notes available online, provides great supplemental material (objectives, worksheets). Its BIO so of course you need to read the book & study but do the work and you can get an A.
Hoban is a good teacher. She reads directly from the powerpoint. You watch videos every once in a while and there are a few questions on the tests about them. I bought the book but never used it and got an "A" in the class. She provides all the material you need through GeorgiaView. She offers extra credit. I would take her again.
She's really nice and always willing to help. BIOL 2221 is a really hard course in general. Dr. Hoban does her best to help students and is really easy to listen to in lecture. This course IS challenging, but it's definitely possible to succeed if you put in the effort. Attending class is a must, it will make the tests easier if you do.
Anatomy is hard no matter who you take..but i am glad i got to take Hoban.. Attendance is not mandatory at all.. i never went to class and made good grades on the test. Use the learning objectives and READ THE BOOK!! Tests are very very hard...but then again all anatomy tests are. If you dont read the book dont expect to do well.. overall take he
Hoban is extremely boring and class is not mandatory. I attended her class for the 1st test then after that I never went. I read all the chapters by myself and then just showed up for the test. Made B's every time. All she does is read word for word from her PP's. NEVER knew the answers to our questions either.
This Professor seemed fairly knowledgeable but couldn't answer every question proposed in class. I strongly recommend buying the textbook because some of her powerpoints aren't as clear. SI Sessions are available I'm not sure if they will help you though.Attendance isn't mandatory, but overall this class is easy if you study the material everyday.
I had her for BIOL 2221 Lab this summer. Her study guides are exactly like the exams, however, if you don't know those study guides backwards and forwards you won't do well. Class was strictly memorization, she was helpful when asked but always seemed like she didn't want to be there. I'd take her over Tresham though!
This course was incredibly hard, but not by the fault of this teacher. There is a LOT of material and she does a good job getting it all covered on time. However, not a lot of time can be spent explaining every detail, so you really have to study the book religiously at home.
She is a wonderful teacher. Gives you a load of extra study material, of course you do it if you want a good grade. Offers an SI leader unlike other instructors. Will answer your questions. She is really nice and delightful to talk to. A&P is hard and covers a lot, so its up to you to do the work. Definitely take Hoban for both lecture and lab.
Hoban seemed like a nice teacher, and she was willing to answer any questions in class. However, she read straight from the powerpoints which literally directly came from the book. I did not feel going to class was that mandatory. She offers many worksheets and SI sessions, so take advantage of those. There is a lot of difficult material.
She just reads straight from the powerpoints. The tests have nothing to do with the notes in class. Read the book and just listen in class. Don't take too many notes.
Hoban is nice and has a sense of humor. My only complaint is that she might be "too good" for 1101. She's very intelligent but she's far too dependent on PowerPoints. I had a few other more demanding classes that got this one pushed to the sidelines. I made a D, due to low test scores. Tests have nothing to do with lectures. Google the content :)
She uses powerpoints and attendance is not mandatory but the lectures have nothing to do with the tests. Tests were extremely hard. I failed two out of three of them but I managed to get a C in the class.
Although science is my weakest subject, Dr. Hoban's class is more than manageable with online labs and 3 tests. Her only weakness is heavy reliance on powerpoints, reading directly off them. She's a brilliant lady and her knowledge may be suited for a higher level course. I made a solid B. recommend this professor.
She's a decent teacher, i am taking here for another class. Lots of videos and a few in class assignments. Easy A.
Worst professor ever. Tests are impossible. She reads straight from power point and it not helpful at all. Dont even ask for her to bump your grade up ONE point, its not happening...ever.
Posts her notes online, posts study guides. Simple grading scale and she grades fairly. Her tests are not too difficult. Her tests include application of knowledge questions along with definition and general knowledge type of questions. The homework assignments and online labs/quizzes are straightforward.
She's very well organized and posts the power points for every chapter, goes over the content of upcoming tests and explains the labs. Overall, the content is not very difficult and the tests are easy - READ THE BOOK! Some of the lab quizzes can be tricky. This is a 4 credit class due to the labs - lots of busy work.
While this professor may cause you to loose the will to live during boring lectures, the tests are TAME and there are plenty of extra assignments (online homework, labs.. etc.) to help boost grades. Attendance isn't mandatory... nor is it especially vital. Just be sure to study the power-points she posts!
She always lets class out early and all she does is read off the powerpoints. I found the tests very difficult also. If you take her class, I suggest reading the book and powerpoints, it is more helpful than going to class.
Like others have said, she does read off of the powerpoints. she has lab quizzes and if you do the labs, you do well on the quiz. Her tests are basically memory if you don't have a knack for science, but I got 80, 88 on first two. She's really kinda boring, but if you follow along its not too bad. If you have any questions she will clarify. Helpful
This class is ridiculously easy. Attendance isn't mandatory at all, seeing as she reads straight off the powerpoints and you can just study at home. You DO have to read the book and do labs, but nothing too hard.
ehh. I don't know about her. The class was not very interesting. I had the MWF classes and she gave us a lot of days to do the labs or watch videos. So we really didn't go on Fridays. There are many tests and the final is not mandatory. I would try to avoid the final because it was ridiculously long! Do the Labs They help!
Class is super easy but boring. She reads straight from the power points and doesn't elaborate much although she will help you if you don;t understand something. Attendance isn't mandatory and she often lets class out really early. If you're not a science major take her but if you are you won't learn much.
Pretty easy class if you stay on top of reading the chapters. She doesn't really teach just reads PowerPoint. Alot of videos to watch which meant no class, you can stay home and watch. Overall you can easily pass if you give the effort
Awesome teacher, super helpful and flexible. If you live off campus or stack your schedule make sure this is either your first or last class of the day because she cancel class constantly, like 8 or 9 days a semester, for moviestudy days.
I would not take this professor! You don't have to go to class because she posts everything online and attendance is not mandatory. But the tests are opposite what she teaches in class. She gives study guides but most everything on the study guide was not on the test. Lab quizzes were easy. she doesn't bump up either
This class only had 3 tests and homework. THAT'S IT. She teaches directly off of a power point, posts a study guide, you show up to take the test and wonder if you are in the right class. Study guides do not follow the test at all. Some parts of the exam were online, which was nice. However, in class exams were difficult. Study the power point ONLY
during the first part of the semester, we came to class a lot, but the second half she barely scheduled class. She has six tests and a final, but the final is optional if you're happy with your grade. the lab quizzes aren't hard if you go to class on the days that she explains them. She basically gives the answers for the labs.
If you have to take the core Science classes, this is the professor to take. She's awesome, lecturesPPTs are interesting and she gives you TONS of days out of class to do work at home. I only went to class on Test days and passed with an A. If you read the PPTS you will pass. She provides a study guide as well. Super easy to succeed.
Not very clear at all. The material is easy, but she makes her tests pretty hard, and this class does require you to read the textbook, but she doesn't talk about it at all. I feel like her lectures didn't help at all, because everything was in the textbook, which I did not buy.
You barely have to show up for lectures and if you do she lets you out early overtime! There are no quizzes or homework really. And she's super fun
Loved this professor
Great professor!
