Very effective professor, no bad comments at all...
A passion for her work but sometimes maybe just not all there.
Loved this class! It was so refreshing to finally have a prof who actually loves their subject and loves what they do. Heavy course load but if you stay on top of your projects and actually get them handed in, shouldn't be too difficult.
I don't understand how someone could have liked her...we got through 4 chapters out of about 20 in the entire term. She shows movies and cancels class more than she actually shows up. She's out to lunch most of the time. Totally wacked. I wasted my $500 on this class.
shes hilarous... hated all the videos but she has good stories and likes teaching
Carol absolutely rules! I really enjoyed the class and her teaching. Her notes can be a little disorganized but other than that, she is a fantastic instructor!
she is awesome. even when you're not in her class, she will help you with anything you need. there should be more teachers like her.
Cultural Anth is a great course. Carol is the reason that I am continuing on with Anth. She is a great teacher and easy to get a hold of. She is quite funny too.
The videos were boring, but Carol is an amazing prof. If you can get her, do it!
She reminds me of a kindergarten teacher and says annoying things like "we'll play with that" instead of just saying "I'll talk about that." Says her goal in life is to have one student per semester switch their major to anth after taking her class, but it honestly made me decide against minoring in it. Movies sucked. She's super nice and sweet tho
Very slack course, not much course work at all. Her course outline clearly outlines what is expected and it is very easy to stay on top of the deadlines. She is very flexible for re-scheduling tests and is an all around very good teacher. I would highly recommend her to anyone
She literally speaks a mile a minute. Very enthusiastic in her lectures. Although, the constant attempts to bait students into changing to an Anth major makes it a lot like speaking to a used car salesman...
She was happy, enthusiastic, knew her stuff, used the textbook in a fair way, marked fair, had faither in her students, loves her area of study, and was one of the happiest, nicest prof ever!
Great Teacher, very chill. Alot of videos and "research days" which are just days we tend to have off. Assignments and expectations changed alot throughout the semester. Usually they just got easier. She somehow made our communities and societies class for GNED into an anthropology class. But she's very sweet and fun.
She is a nice person but class was fairly dull, watched videos mostly. Overall not a bad class but will not be taking another anth class.
I can understand why students like her, she is friendly and easy to talk to. She is a nice person, but a terrible professor. We did not even get to the last few chapters because so much time was spent watching movies. Her notes suck and her class was boring. Don't count on getting test results back quickly, she procrastinates horribly.
when she decided to have class, she spent most of the time going over what she was going to go over and then we would watch a movie. we handed in an assignment almost two months prior to finals and still didnt get it back at our final exam, and she was all over the place and inconsistant in her grading. Also very boring class
She was a patheticly slow marker. It took 6+ weeks to get an essay back. By the time we got it back we had handed in another and written the final. She also cancelled 1/4 of the classes.
had her for 1105 and 2204. Slowest marker ever...she takes soooo long to get everything back to you. Easy going and not bad classes but not great
Took forever to return marks. Took over a month to mark the second midterm, and didn't get our paper or final exam mark back until the new year. Very disappointing. As long as you read the text book, you will be fine. Going to class really isn't necessary
Carol is a very nice person and easy to approach with questions. I've had two classes with her before and haven't had problems, but this semester was frustrating. She's cancelled 4 classes, including the VERY FIRST DAY. I just feel like I've learned almost nothing from her and am teaching myself out of the textbook. =(
Carol is a really nice person. Very friendly and approachable. She is also a ridiculously easy marker, which is always a bonus and she always gives an outline of what will be on exams and what to study. She's a little scatterbrained though, and I found that she went very fast during lectures. Also, lots of boring movies that made me want to die.
By far the MOST frustrating prof I've ever had. Cancelled classes often, talked about insignificant topics for classes at a time, and left our class to learn the vast majority of the final material alone. Also, did not mark anything in a timely manner, and made it through MAYBE half of the course material we were supposed to. Ridiculous!
Was in GNED communities and societies. Easy A class. But she does attendance. Also, the only "textbook" we needed was a like $10 easy to read novel that we had to read for a paper. If you take all her notes you'll for sure ace the tests.
I adore this professor; however, her class is too easy. We watch a movie every day and she also lets us out early. Although this might sound wonderful, her class is simply boring.
Really enthusiastic at the beginning of the semester.... Until she started missing class regularly. We covered 1/4 of the outlined material. She's a really nice lady. But it's 1 week before second semester start and we haven't received 50% of our grade. Brutal, considering she said she'd have the marked last week.
Carol is really nice and the course seemed like it would be a gpa booster BUT IT'S NOT! She cancels class often, the material is boring, the requirements for the paper were not clear at all and the final was horrible.
Carol was a very happy teacher. I had her for a spring semester class, and she cancelled one class, plus kept extending all assignments, which may sound great, but is very frustrating since she takes ages to mark them. We only knew 30% of grade before the final. She is a generous marker though.
Carol just rambles on and on about useless things and doesnt cover much material in class. She expects you to still know the material. It takes her FOREVER to return marks. By the end of the semester we only had 25% of our final grade. She also makes little sense when she does give actual notes
I was in Carol's Communities and Societies class. She is very interested in the topics that she teaches, which helps because it keeps the class interested as well. However, she talks a lot and it can take a while to get through material.
I took the GNED Communities and Societies with Carol and all I can say is be prepared to hear about my little pony for 80% of class...not kidding. Lovely woman and extremely helpful, but terrible class. Waste of time to sit in class but she took attendance. She was often late and cancelled classes
One of the few teachers that I would go quite far out of my way to avoid a class with at all costs. Speaks 90% of the time about irrelevancies, like walking her dog and my little pony.Taught us little but still expected us to know all material. Very dry class, often puts on movies and leaves the class for whole periods, often cancels class.
Run fast run far, this prof only ever talks about my little pony and teaches virtually nothing, be ready to be teaching yourself everything out of your text and having your pants bored of in the attendance mandatory class time. I REPEAT: SHE PUSHES MY LITTLE PONY ALL THE TIME
She is very nice and accommodating, gave us extensions on almost everything, but is inconsistent with notes etc. and I could not pay attention in her class at all, boring. Easy assignments and decent exams, just study the material and you'll be fine even if you never pay attention in class like me. She can be funny and does love my little pony...
She is super easy, you just have to follow along in the text book and read the notes she puts online. And show up for the exams - easy! She loves Archaeology and lectures easy to follow. However, she is late getting back exams and assignments. Not cool
I had Carol for Cultural Anthropology. This was my favourite course so far in my two years of post secondary. Carol is very funny, knowledgeable and kind. Her classes are riveting and she appeals to a variety of learning styles as she uses comics, visuals, online notes and lectures. I learned so much from Carol and didn't miss a class all semester!
She can be a little much a times. She's funny but really tries to push anthropology on you. I thought most people in my class were dead most times... the course is boring, she tries to make it interesting .... most people only show up for tests
Carol is really lovely and cares about Anthropology. I don't think she does well as a professor. She cancelled multiple classes, with less than 1 hr notice. Very scatterbrained and disorganized - refuses to use technology and looses all her slides. extends deadlines which isn't fair to students who do their work on time. Too many movies - on VHS!
Carol is great , she is so enthusiastic and you can tell she loves her job! She is the queen of extensions and its not bad if you miss a class because she will help you catch up, shes very understanding! We didn't get much done in terms of course content and we watched a lot of movies. the tests were straight forward and this class is an easy A!
Went out of my way to get her as a prof for my second anth class! Easy A, extended deadlines. Who cares if attendance is mandatory.
Carol is fun and very talkative, definitly would take her course again. So long as you pay attention and dont mind taking your own notes its a good class. Lots of movies and very slack on deadlines
Carol is super nice and totally willing to help!
I wish this prof taught every one of my courses. she is amazingly interesting and funny.
Very unorganized. She often rambles on irrelevant things, often cancels classes an hour before scheduled and assignments are unclear. Not very reliable, lectures are dry and she often just shows videos and then leaves the class. Class is basically self-taught and takes forever to mark assignments. Would not recommend her
Although Carol clearly knows what she's talking about, her teaching method was not for me. She's really nice and tries to be funny, she would stop in between topics just to show an irrelevant fun slide. Class was cancelled a few times during the semester and seemed like she would talk fast to try and catch up. Not sure I learned anything in class
Carol is an amazing professor!! She knows what she is talking about and her exams are straightforward. She is easy going if you talk to her and she gives extensions on assignments making sure you the grade you want. Ive had her for a full year and passed both her classes.
I really like Carol as a person and you can tell that she enjoys making people laugh and telling stories but I can't say that I found her especially helpful as a professor. She shows videos almost every class and is very scattered when trying to deliver content. I ended up having to read the entire textbook from home to understand the course.
I love carol as a person she's funny and would be a great person to talk to but when it comes to being a prof.. She's not cut out for it. She cancels class almost every week, rushes through content to the point you don't even know what ur supposed to know. Wouldn't take again. Used the textbook to pass the class.
Take home exams allowed me to bring my mark up. Only in class exam is the final so a lot of students didn't do very well on it considering we had access to the internet for our other quizzes. She takes random attendance and likes 'keeners' who talk to her a lot privately about primates and stuff. If you're not interested in the content.. Good luck!
Carol has a sense of humour and really wants to engage in interesting discourse even if it means that she doesn't strictly stick to the course outline dates. There is a group project, she takes attendance. She really wants everyone to do well- Exam was not difficult. She was accessible out of class time. No classes cancelled and she brought cake!
Really enjoyed the energy she brings to the classroom. Very passionate about the material and that really shows in the lectures. I always looked forward to attending.
She is an amazing prof. She may loose you during lectures but she cares a lot about what she is teaching. This is my 4th class with her and she is quite the gem when it comes to exam.
I have a love-hate opinion of carol. had her a few times, she loves anth/arky, she tries to make the class engaging and get you to laugh.. but some stuff she makes very dull.. cultural anth was a cakewalk, but ancient peoples she made very confusing and she marked harder. Id take her again, but ive almost fallen asleep in some of her classes.
Carol is the funniest person in the world. She gives clear expectations on what she wants on tests, giving a cheat sheet for the final exam. You get free participation marks for just showing up to class, you don't even have to participate in class.
Carol is hilarious, I really enjoyed taking this class. I found her to be very fair with her expectations in her assignments and exams. She is quirky, and her humor kept me engaged in some dry lectures. She gives extensions on assignments if she feels the class needs it, and even allows a cheat sheet for the final exam. She's awesome.
Carol is a funny and kind person. Her lectures and content are easy to follow. Her assignments are clear and her grading is fair. The only pet peeve is that she cancels class A LOT. Usually wouldn't mind but it comes to a point where money feels wasted. Overall solid choice and easy class
Take this class if you're looking for a GPA booster. We had just one easy assignment, a midterm and a final. The content is not difficult whatsoever. You won't fall behind if you miss class. It was nice how she cancelled class honestly because I got to sleep in. Overall, sweet lady.
Favorite prof of the semester for sure. Cracks allot of jokes in lectures and gives good examples that you can use in midterm/final. Showing up helps but you could get away with skipping sometimes for sure. I will take Carol again if I can.
I had her for the spring semester and looked forward to going to her class. She is sweet and quirky. She makes the Communities and Societies about anthropology, shows lots of (mostly boring) films, there was 2 big essays + a mini, seated presentation, one midterm and no final(Spring). She is an extremely easy marker and a lovely person!!
She is a passionate teacher so she likes to talk about her field. Majority of her content is about her field of work too. Its a very easy course. she normally doesn't do midterms or final exams. Majority is papers and I find she is an easy marker
Super nice prof, lots of papers but they are fairly easy and actually interesting. Carol is really considerate if you have a lot going on, attendance isn't mandatory but she's so nice you'll feel bad not showing. Marks fair and is overall a good prof
Get ready to teach yourself because you won't be learning anything in her class. She cancels class, mumbles the entire time, and has disorganized lectures. Most of your grade comes from 2 long research papers and the final. She's approachable, kind and an easy marker but has no idea how to teach.
Dont worry about showing up to class because she wont either
Terrible teacher. Always ended class early or cancelled it completely. You need the textbook as she just reads newspaper clippings half the time or reads her vague online notes. Can barely hear her since she speaks so softly. Take home midterm was easy, but gives no clarification on assignments. 8 weeks in and Im lost despite always going.
I am very disappointed with the quality of teaching I am receiving from Carol Krol. Roughly 50% of classes have been cancelled. When she does show up, she ends class early. Also, she talks so quietly that it's impossible to hear her. It's also frustrating not having any grades when the course is over 2/3 finished.
I had Carol as my prof from a GNED course, easy grader but taking her for a "real" course is a mistake. Cancels class most of the time (pointless showing up the rest of the time too as she just reads from a screen) Really nice lady, but we have 2 weeks left and no grades to show for it. I was interested in the course but I've learnt nothing
Carol is nice and probably means well, but its difficult to learn from her. Shes extremely quiet, at times impossible to hear. She didnt present material in an instructive way but instead read out verbatim notes on a Word Doc. Cancelled half the classes every week. Took 4 weeks to grade midterm. I felt lost and mostly taught myself w/ textbook.
Carol is a sweet prof. However, she talks extremely quiet and talks for the entire class. We were only graded by midterm/final and 10-page paper and since she is a tough marker, getting a good grade is hard. She did cancel MANY classes for personal reasons but should've tried to make up for it with a substitute. Only + is that notes are posted.
Carol is understanding and a sweetheart. The class consisted of two major writing assignments, a midterm, and a couple film reviews. I was considering dropping it about halfway through but I ended up with an A-. Do not hesitate to take a class with her.
Carol was a miserable teacher this semester. Half the classes this semester she canceled without providing a sub or an online lecture, and when there was class her lectures were unbelievably dry. One class we literally sat and listened to her read newspaper clippings for 30mins. The class still has no idea what we were supposed to learn. F-
She was an absolute sweetheart! Very clear on what she expects from the students, she communicated her expectations for each week, and gave plenty reminders on big projects. I was unsure of taking her class due to the amount of reading that was expected, but the content was actually very interesting and I actually enjoyed this course!
Carol is such a lovely professor! What I loved about Carol's class is that she's very understanding of extensions. Although her weekly course materials are very heavy with an immense amount of reading, her assignments are very straight forward and are graded fast and easily. I highly recommend Carol, easy GPA booster if you put the work in!
Carol was my online prof. No lectures posted, no office hours, no feedback except look at the rubric. All textbook reading, unclear on assignments, you will be teaching yourself 100%. A friend of mine who took her in person class said she never showed up. Would not recommend, she may be nice enough but she is a god awful professor.
Carol is a really nice prof who is always able to offer extensions. However, Carol provided absolutely no feedback and no rubric. Her weekly content was incredibly heavy and her due dates were ridiculous. If you are going to take this course be prepared to dedicate a LOT of time to read articles and submit over 20 writing assignments.
I found this course extremely dry. The textbook is tough to get through at times, but that may be because I'm not an ANTH student. This is my second time with Carol, and in person she is the best! Easy marker if you put in a minimal amount of work.
Carol is AWESOME! Her classes are A-synchronous but she will happily answer a question if you've got it. Her classes are well structured but incredibly interesting. 10/10 recommend to anyone who wants an easy, interesting class. I felt supported in my learning in her class and as though I could succeed.
Easy A+. However, this class was asynchronous, meaning you do the assigned readings alone each week. Each week, there were three or more assigned readings, two or more films, and one discussion prompt. The assigned readings sometimes ranged from 10-40 pages. The films were 30-60 minutes each. This class is an easy A but be prepared to put in work.
Despite my class being online, Carol seems to be the type of prof that cares about her students. However, the class is very heavy in terms of coursework when compared to my other classes (classes that aren't GNED's either!) The weekly readings were very long, and often supplemented with 2+ hours of videos, followed by weekly reflections and essays
She gives so many papers and tons of written work. I had to ask for a few extensions, she normally allows that. You need to look over the assigned readings or else you won't know what is going on. She is an okay marker.
Once you figure out Krol's expectations the course is great and so simple. Lots of weekly reading summary assignments & required textbk. She is incredible kind and friendly. Empathetic, gives extensions all over the place. Loved the content too. Make sure you just give VERY thorough descriptions when asked (papers and exams) and you're good to go.
Ridiculous. She doesn't bother to provide lectures. Her assignments and expectations are unclear and she requires hours of textbook and article readings and hours of videos every week. Carol takes forever to grade even the smallest assignments. I took a class from her in person and she was great. Online, she's just lazy and demanding.
This course is a combination of archeology and anthropology. Some reading were quite interesting, however Carol's assignment instructions were sometimes vague. The class is asynchronous, however she is accessible. LOTS of reading and videos every week, which you need to write about biweekly. Easy class though, overall.
Carol has incredibly engaging & interesting projects, as well as archeological & anthropological anecdotes & Indiana Jones jokes for every situation.
she doesn't know how to teach, all she does is talk about whatever and she's very lazy but expects so much from hers students . but she's really nice.
Took professor. Krol's class in the spring and was the most enjoyable online class I have ever had. She is clear with her expectations and is regularly offering extensions for assignments. If you have the chance to take a class with her, you definitely should!
Taken as an asynchronous class, it was confusing to grasp the concept with very unclear notes, and organization of content on D2L. She is very nice and accessible if you need to move the deadline, however your mark comes from papers, for the midterm, assignment and final exam. Get ready to write.
I loved this class. It's very easy, and I recommend it if you want a boost in your GPA. She is amusing and easy with her grading. You will have to watch videos weekly, although they are entertaining. I emailed her and she always got back to me within that day. I appreciated the ease with this class during a stressful semester!!
Overall a great prof, especially if you like online classes. The content is well laid out, and it was never an overwhelming amount given at a time. But all assignments are all writing-based - we had 4, roughly 8-page essays. So if you don't like to write stay away. Not a hard marker, but may take a while to get feedback.
Was taking this class as an asynchronous. This course was all writing but she has clear notes and expectations of the assignments. Two things that I didn't enjoy as much is that the material is posted weekly and there are timeframes to submit the assignments, so you cannot get ahead. Also takes forever to grade assignments, but is an easy marker
takes forever to mark.. you are graded by 4 papers and you wont get the prior paper back before the next so you wont know how to improve your grade. very dry class just lots of reading.
I've taken a few courses with her, and things have gone downhill. She is a much stricter marker than she used to be. Even after Christmas, we only had 50% of our grade back, so prepare to wait for your assignment "feedback," which is ambiguous and doesn't match the number of grades taken off. Get the required text; you will need it.
Carol's online classes are made up of 4 8~ page papers, 1103 is not a difficult class to pass, but fairly difficult to get a good grade.
I had Carol for Gned1301, however she kept cancelling classes for family emergencies. Most classes were also just pretty much watching documentaries. Attendance is not mandatory but she does do a bonus mark for a random attendance day. 3 assignments, all 6+ pages. Few assignments but they're very heavy. The final was also just more writing.
Carol teaches from an extremely colonial view. Indigenous ppl called her out for some of the things she taught, she did not care. essays are easy, lectures are hard to sit through. She cancelled at least 8 weeks of class this semester. $700 class and I did not learn anything. I was disappointed with her teaching. Would not recommend a class w/ her.
Loved her! I took this class online; included four essays, all around 8 pages. Her grading criteria is extremely clear, follow her format instructions and refer to the lectures in your essays, you're going to get a's! Maybe the class would be easier for someone who enjoys writing, overall, she's great!
Carol is probably one of my favorite professors and MRU. She provides amazing online notes for us to succeed in the assignments. There are only 3 essay assignments and a final that is taken home. The course is manageable but a lot of reading yet Carol makes it interesting. Highly recommend her as a prof.
She cancelled so so many classes. Her time management skills are appalling for someone who has taught for so long. She expects a lot from her students but is very lazy herself. I honestly don't think she cares about teaching anymore. She talks a lot but says nothing of value in relation to course content. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Carol's class involves 4 essays, but her grading criteria is clear - follow her format and refer to lectures to get good grades. The material can be dry, but Unstuck AI helped me prepare efficiently.
This class was an asynchronous course, but unlike other asynchronous courses I've taken, you do not have things due every week. Instead there were 4 essay style assignments. I found that this made it super difficult for me to stay on track with the course, and when it came time to write these I struggled. Carol herself was accessible and kind.
Carol is a good prof, I've taken two classes with her so far, and she makes the assignments very clear and simple to follow. As long as you do everything she asks for, you will get a good grade.
Carol was great, super nice! Grade was based on 3 EASY assignments & take home exam (3 days to write paper). Class lectures are pretty boring and you watch a lot of videos. She does cancel class a fair bit but it never bothered me. I almost never went to class and finished with an A+. Follow assignment guidelines and it's an easy GPA boost.
Good prof.Seemed to go off topic a little, but still provided LOTS of resources that were used in class and additionally. Had 3 assignments(all papers), and one final.Overall concepts were clear if you understood and listened. She didn't care about attendance, but did give extra credit when people showed up on days she didnt expect.Would take again.
Carol can be a little bit all over the place during lectures, so it can be difficult to follow everything she is saying. Be sure to do the readings, as it makes the class easier to follow, even when she goes off topic. She is very funny & joyful, even at 8:30 a.m. Her assignments are straightforward and interesting to complete.
